hey there…

i started writing this last night…..

i am eating a bowl of cocoa pebbles in bed at 12:30.

i just packed for Craft Weekend…ironed my shirts…filled my bags.

i am ready to get this party started again!
we took a long-ish break over the holidays.
i miss kimberlee!

annie had appointments today about her arm so we did that all morning.
then i ran to hobby lobby for CW supplies and other errands.

i took a sweatshirt back to american eagle for sean that was too small.
i spent 15 minutes deciding which one… picked… paid and left… only to discover when i got home that i bought THE SAME SIZE I WAS RETURNING!!!

so lame.

sometimes i am such a ding dong.

the cashier's look makes so much sense now when i said "it's too small." and then bought the same size.
i wish she'd spoken up.

i made lettuce wraps for only myself for dinner.
and ate them standing over the pan on the stove.

i did yoga from a dvd i got at the grocery store.
🙂
as soon as it started i thought "what was i thinking? i didn't even read the box?!"
it was fine.
a lot of breathing… i liked it actually.
i feel all stretched.
misson accomplished.

i registered for the half marathon in april.
paid real money.
scaaaaaary.
i figured it would help motivate me.

————————————————————————————————————————————-

and then i fell asleep.

now i am here with kimberlee.
we are getting everything ready…catching up on life and setting up.

IMG_0564-2
how is that for a random laundry basket?
the ninja….awesome.
rainbow knives…. gift from my mom for christmas.
and my favie boots ever.

IMG_0591-8
swag is ready to be sorted out… love our sponsors!

IMG_0595-9
i have about 24 hours to make this space pretty.
with all of this….
IMG_0601-10

so i have to quit writing and get busy.
it is time to crank up the music and WORK!

glitter and glue.

this is the last craft we did over the school christmas break.
it's kind of christmassy but can just be fun for winter too.

IMG_0540-8

for supplies:
we used photographs, school glue, paint brushes, martha stewart fine glitter, mini pom poms and pre cut wood snowflakes from hobby lobby…they were like $1.50? or something like that.

IMG_0183-8

IMG_0165-1
they came already painted white.

IMG_0166-2
take a photo you like and draw a circle over it with whatever circle shape that fits your sowflake…we used a drinking glass from our kitchen.

IMG_0167-3

IMG_0169-4
cut out your picture.
then cover your entire snowflake (only one side) in glue.
we poured glue into a small bowl and painted it on the snowflake.

IMG_0171-5

after the picture is on you cover everything with glitter.
(the fun part. 🙂

IMG_0172-6
you wouldn't have to use the martha stewart glitter but it IS amazing.
everything looks so good with it.
it's pricey and regular glitter would still work….but the MS stuff is my FAVE.

IMG_0181-7
when the glitter & glue was dry we hot glued the mini pom poms around the photo.

IMG_0524-1
they were very fun to make.
glitter is messy i know but all you need is a hose attachment to your vaccum to clean it up.
and honestly…i like having glitter fall off me everywhere i go around my house.  :)

IMG_0525-2
we made some for our friends…

IMG_0529-4

IMG_0526-3
annie made this one for talby.
IMG_0530-5
i think you could just hang these up around your house all winter…it is not strictly christmas that gets the glitter.

IMG_0532-6

IMG_0536-7

IMG_0541-9

creating with glitter makes me happy.

the end.

happy friday to you.

throw back craft

i call this a throw back craft because it was based from something my great aunt Liza hung on her wall at christmas time… i don't know where that ended up.
i forgot about it until christmas.
hers was velvet and was covered in pearls and rhinestones sewn to it…in an antique frame.
she hung it above her fireplace.

IMG_0453-1

we created a modern version of liza's tree…using craft supplies she gave to me.
she always sent me home with a box of supplies that she wasn't going to need any more.
she loved to hand sew, preferably with felt, seqins and beads.
i have thousands.

first we painted a canvas all one color. (this is a 16×20 canvas..we used acrylic craft paint)
IMG_0473-1
she had bags of scraps of this puffy bright colored yarn.
so now i have bags of scraps of puffy yarn.
🙂
i traced a tree shape (cut from paper) on our painted canvas when it dried
and we hot glued the puffy yarn in the shape.
IMG_0477-2

IMG_0479-3
this big bowl of sequins and beads is a teeny fraction of the stash i have from her.

IMG_0481-4
then we poured glue into the tree shape.
like…. we used almost the entire bottle of tacky glue.

i poured it out and spread it with a paint brush.
IMG_0482-5
then we dumped the sequins and beads on the glue until every single bit of glue was covered.

IMG_0485-6

IMG_0488-7
the girls were LOVING it!!

IMG_0492-9

IMG_0494-10
it was messy.

but what fun is making art if you can't get messy?!

IMG_0508-15
it's like a game of I Spy.

IMG_0500-13

the gold star sequins were in their own glass pill bottle.
it was the perfect finishing touch.

IMG_0503-14

IMG_0498-12

i hope that we will hang this up every year too…for a long time….and that my girls will remember making it.

it is pretty awesome.

different from liza's but perfect for us.

share the joy.

World Market is one of my favorite stores!
i chose which side of town i shop at so that i can be sure to be close to the world market.  :)

IMG_20121204_200428
$150 gift card?  yes please.
LET'S GET SHOPPING!!

i had my instagram working hard while i was shopping.
i shared lots of the the fun things i was finding and dreaming about.
i started following World Market on Instagram too!

IMG_20121204_200754

IMG_20121204_201155
i stood there in front of this wall of pillows and thought "i love every single one… how could i choose?"

IMG_20121204_201857
this chair is my favorite… i drool over it every time i am there.
each tufted button is a different colorful fabric.
it makes me so happy to see.

IMG_20121204_202647
i loved both of these huge signs.

Wm2

IMG_20121204_203517
world market has a great section of stocking stuffers and gifts for kids!
i know Sean would love this in his stocking.

IMG_20121204_204516
this chair?!  it looks vintage!!  i looooove it.

Wm1

IMG_20121204_205711
i am pretty sure that this rug should live at my house…it's lovely.

IMG_20121204_205910
my girls would enjoy every second of making this gingerbread tree.
and my boys might also if they had their own so they wouldn't have to share.
my favorite part… premade cookies…. all supplies are included!

IMG_20121204_211339
how sweet are these deer hooks?
i think spray painted in hot pink would be even more amazing!

everything i find at World Market makes me smile and i feel inspired.

but this day at World Market wasn't really for MY wants.
i had $150 to spend on a gift basket to donate to a charity of my choice.

it took me awhile to choose one… i wasn't sure where to go.
i asked my friends for suggestions and they lead me eventually to
Youthville… a local organization that has secure housing for girls ages 12- 17.

Youthville's Secure Care program is designed to serve girls who have chronic runaway behaviors and have been deemed by the courts as "Children In Need of Care". This 24-hour, highly structured and safe environment allows females to address behaviors in a safe home-like setting. The program's objective is to return girls safely to their families and communities by decreasing the likelihood of future runaway episodes through skill building and improving decision making.

while in their secure housing they are taught cooking and baking courses.

IMG_9892-1

i found mixing bowls, cookie sheets, measuring cups, cupcake pan and liners, sprinkles, ruffley girlie hot pads, cute spoons, sweet smelling soap, spatulas, and even yummy mixes to enjoy.
it was so much fun to keep filling and filling that basket!

i'm grateful to have had the opportunity to think about & pray for these girls who are living here.
they deserve the chance to have big dreams, happiness and even just a pretty bowl to make cookies in.
life has not been easy for them but maybe they will find some simple joy in learning how to bake.

i thought about my own girls and how much they enjoy decorating a gingerbread house each year.
maybe the girls at this house have never gotten to do that?
yes… put it in the basket!

i loved being a part of World Market's Share the Joy campaign.

i highly encourage you to find SOMETHING around you to help with this christmas.
anything.

just pick any charity near you, call them and say "i want to help you…tell me how"
and i promise they will tell you how.
then go do it.
your heart will feel like it's about to burst when you go and give your gift!

and take your kids!!

you can find World Market on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter too!

Be sure to enter the World Market Share the Joy Sweepstakes HERE.

  • Grand Prize package includes: A $5,000 American Express Gift Card for you and $5,000 for a charity of your choice
  • You could be one of 5 winners (one winner per week).
  • The Share the Joy Sweepstakes ends 12/21/12.

🙂

it’s so much fun getting to make new friends!
they came from all over again this month…with only one major flight delay…so glad you made it sunny!

we had lots of instagrammers this month.
it is fun to help newbies get started on a new addiction.

i used their pictures from the #whatevercraftweekend group to make some collages.

we tried something a little crazy with this group… a late night donut run!
IMG_9121-7
our little local donut shop opens at 11:30 PM on friday nights with hot fresh donuts.
it felt pretty crazy getting the van to go somewhere that late.
like we were wild kids….just like all the kids that were AT the donut shop.
it was yummy and fun!

our saturday at the antique store and barn was SO WINDY!
ridiculous kansas wind.
but these girls did just fine finding all kinds of lovely treasures to take home.
