it was a good one.

BLOGstripRNBW1000

our weekend was just right.
we had a party….we hung out… we got some stuff done… i made margaritas.
sounds good doesn’t it?

IMG_6714

mon1

we have had this style of party several times now and i think it is my favorite.
we invite people over and have them bring a carton of ice cream and we provide all the toppings.
it’s fun because we get all kinds of ice cream too.
and then we let the kids go nuts making their own sundaes.

IMG_6710

the kids were playing soccer, volleyball and jumping on the trampoline… notice annie’s sweaty hair.
she had to put her bowl into a bigger bowl since she filled it so full.
mon2
after ice cream it starts to get dark and we play a movie up on the barn wall.
all the kids grabbed their chairs and settled in.
this time we played “The Sandlot” … such a great movie!
the grown ups stayed by the house and talked.
the best kind of party!  occupied kids and adult conversation under twinkle lights.
yes please.

IMG_6728mon3
i went out for a run on sunday morning early and it was absolutely gorgeous outside.
the sun was just coming up… cows were by the creek… farmer was baling hay… perfect morning to be out.

IMG_6814mon4
the field behind our house has sunflower weeds growing.
i took that picture (on the right) and thought i would like to get married right there in front of these flowers.
to craig again of course.
but then the bugs attacked me and i decided since i was already married we could just kiss there & call it good.

IMG_6803
cats are weirdos.
she was sound asleep… with her head hanging off the chair.

mon6IMG_6878

we have taught the chickens how to jump for food in our hands.
it is hysterical.
someday i will show a video.mon5
IMG_6856mon7IMG_6900

and then there is this.
i mean… really.
how lucky are we everyday that God puts incredible beauty in our paths like this?
it may not look like this at your house but He shows you in other ways that are equally awesome.

all you have to do is look.

the coop

back when i was trying to figure out what to do for coop… i remembered my friend Kerry's son.
he built a tree house.
he LOVES working with wood and building stuff.

so i threw it out there.

"do you think Kenton would be up for trying a project this big?"

Untitled-3

the answer is YES.
he knocked it out of the park.
completely.

IMG_7489
he and his dad showed up with strapped to a trailer.
and between their guys and mine… they slowly rolled it off the back of the trailer.
Untitled-2

it wasn't graceful.

but they did it!
IMG_1704
he added features i didn't know i would want.  :)
those are drawers to pull out and clean all the poop off.
we can keep the coop much cleaner…easier.
AWESOME.

i love it kenton.

you are going to be an EXCELLENT builder when you grow up because you already are now!

Untitled-4

Untitled-9
the ladies love it.
Untitled-7

Untitled-5
talby and her friends were checking out the new home and getting the chickens all worked up.

Untitled-6
waffle walked right into my shot!
he is doing well with being the big brother around here.
sniffs everything 100 times a day and gives plenty of licks to keep everyone in line.
kind of a "dont-forget-i-could-eat-you-in-one-bite" lick to the head or back.

IMG_7641

IMG_1952
i am truly turning into the crazy chicken lady.

IMG_7653

loving this new adventure out in the country.
chickens are very funny.

hope you have a great weekend.
is it just me…or do you feel summer has not been one bit relaxing???

i am feeling that summer is not going the way i wanted.
i need to get to work on this.
because really… who is in control of that?
yep.

it's me.
operation RELAX.
coming soon to my home.
happy weekend!!!

sanitize?

IMG_1604

the weather is gorgeous today.
and yesterday.
practically perfect.

i was just sitting outside enjoying the weather…chatting via text with some friends
conincidentally about how i was feeling exhausted by parenting.

and i heard "MOM WE NEED TO SANITIZE THE BUTTER! ANNIE STEPPED IN IT!!!"

i sat for a moment and thought … why?

why is butter on the floor?
why is the country crock container ON THE FLOOR?!
how could this have possibly happened?

then i went inside.

it was on the floor IN THE LIVING ROOM?!!!

what the what?

i had a mini meltdown.

my kids KNOW the rule of not eating anywhere but the dining room or kitchen.

they know it.

but they always break it!!!

they had made macaroni together (it is nice that they make their own lunch…)
and were eating it in the living room and
someone brought the butter in to add some extra to their bowl of macaroni.

and annie stepped IN it.

so i had a rant about that…. and then i had them clean the whole kitchen.

stepped in the butter?!!

it could be a long summer.

Craft Weekend #14…lovely ladies!

our group came from california, texas, colorado, maine, virginia, nebraska, connecticut and arizona.
it’s super fun to get to meet and host so many wonderful, creative women every month.

we made ruffley aprons.    we got to know each other.    we ate kimberlee’s YUMMY food.

we drank margaritas.    we ate cheesecake.   we had coffee at night.   we stayed up LATE.

we went to a barn sale at a dairy farm.    we shopped for antiques and junk.

we had show-n-tell.    we made fun new craft projects.

we ate pasta with creamy sauce and dipped our garlic bread in the extra sauce (i did at least).

we crafted some more.   we ate bread pudding with carmel sauce. it was CRAZY GOOD.

we went to bed even later.   we ate incredible cinnamon rolls for breakfast with our antiques deliveryman.

we took pictures.   we gave hugs.    we dropped off 11 of our 14 guests at the airport.

it was an AWESOME weekend!

ice ice baby.

All right STOP. Collaborate and listen.

(dorkiest title E V E R but i did listen to that song on my first date with mr. duerksen)

yesterday i wore a skirt and flip flops.
we woke up this morning to a blanket of ice.
it was wrapped around everything in site.
kansas is going off the deep end!

IMG_1060-1

IMG_1061-2

IMG_1064-3
these are icicles!!
icicles on every branch and leaf and blade of grass.
and it was still raining.

IMG_1066-4

IMG_1076-6

IMG_1073-5
i took all these pictures in my yard while i waited 20 minutes for my car to warm up enough for the ice to melt off the windshield!
SOMEONE took my ice scraper this morning before she left for school even though she got her own ice scraper in her stocking this past christmas… a NICE one with a fur glove from eddie bauer!

the ice was so thick over all the windows that i couldn't see out AT ALL.
IMG_20130410_080657
this was my view from the driver's seat out my front windshield!!!

seriously!

IMG_1080-1

IMG_1081-1
and if you have never experienced an ice storm…
it has a very weird sound.
it seems quieter because of how the ice must absorb sound? maybe
but then all the branches and bits of ice touch together when there is wind and it makes a crackley sound.
and then big tree limbs fall off all over town because of the weight of the ice on old heavy braches.
very exciting!
not.

for now… we have power so that is good.
this happened 8 years ago when annie was a new baby and we lost power for 8 days!
so i am hoping this ice junk (even though it's pretty) will be all melty by tomorrow.

besides… i have running to do!
that little 13.1 mile run is only 18 days away!
ugh.

i wish it was 18 days ago.
i am ready to stop thinking about it.
i want it over!

IMG_1084-1

i put bbq ribs in the crockpot this morning.
then drove very slowly to the craft house for a hot bath because the hot water was out at the farm.
for reals.
the washing machine is broken too.
a tree limb knocked down the fence in the yard.
and the glass in the back door shattered last night.
AND for some reason this storm makes everything smell like the lagoon in the back.

so yeah… a hot bath was happening no matter what.

and now a blanket and a movie?

yes.

that.

i did a little treasure hunting yesterday.
i was searching for vintage trims and ribbons for craft weekend projects but also found a few other lovelies that needed a good home.

IMG_0592-17
IMG_0594-19

a sweet little handstitched cloth.                                    a grayish/green/pink bark cloth curtain panel.

IMG_0601-22
a jesus plate to add to my collection.

IMG_0596-20
the brightest yellow daisy bowl with lid…. i think it's dreamy.

IMG_0593-18
a colorful vase covered in poppies.

IMG_0604-23
a globe…duh.   (it was $10.  there were two others at the same antique store that were $25 and $28 score!)
vintage pillowcases
a sweet little wood box painted green with a decopaged rose.
lots of vintage lace trim.

IMG_0606-24

and a milk glass bowl that i filled up with old wood spools.

IMG_0607-25
sometimes when i am out looking for fun antiques…i find nothing.
but then days like this make it super fun.

MegrainbowstripeSKINNY

after the feb. craft weekend i decided to not have any sweets or junky sugary foods until the next CW.
sugared cereals, desserts, candy, ice cream, etc
50 days.
i am at day 49.
i thought it would help with my running/training for the Half Marathon (25 days away…..AAAAAaaaa!!!!)

i broke my own rule twice.
once for cheesecake at ashley's. (and probably breakfast there too…so good)
and once for a cinnamon roll made by pam.

now i get to enjoy craft weekend guilt free!  woo-hoo!

Images

then i will go back to NO sugary stuff again.
i just made it up and work it out for me as i go… but i have noticed a difference in my running.
i feel lighter.

MegrainbowstripeSKINNY

waffle got his spring haircut.

IMG_20130401_183107
IMG_20130402_102948

waffle is a goldendoodle.
we shave his hair because when it's long like the picture he gets really dirty and smelley.
also he only sheds when his hair is shaggy.
he always prances around when he gets home from the groomer.
he is a happy dog.
