80 degrees

Img_1431_2

what better way to start the morning
then with a chandelier on the doorstep?
it could be the best surprise ever.
thank you diana! i was beaming all morning.
i can’t wait to see it in my new bathroom!

the perfect morning turned into a very good day.
to enjoy the 80 degree weather annie and i took to the town.
we walked with the stroller…
(although it was empty the entire time but the first 4 blocks)
we were out for almost 4 hours!
we paid some bills at the county building & some other errands.
we shopped for gifts.
we stopped and looked at everything annie wanted to see.

Img_1440_2

froo-froo coffee….yum.

Img_1469_2

Img_1466

a stop at the park

Img_1479_2

a peek at the old train

Img_1446_2

we searched for A’s all over town.
which she shouted “A for annie!” to each one.

Img_1487_2

you know we have to stop for this.
hmmm….where could i put a huge lamp with a fuzzy red velvet shade?
i don’t think there is any place for that lamp.

Img_1485_2

Img_1488_2

and waiting on a train…again.
this rock must be here just to sit and wait.

i was determined to be in the moment with annie.
we were both so happy to be together.
until the very end.
2 blocks from home annie looks up at me and nonchalantly says
“you not my best fwriend anymore mama”
she was exhausted on those little stubborn “i-can-walk-myself” legs.
a nap came very easy.

melissa @ the inspired room - You captured the day in perfect detail. What sweet memories these will bring someday! She is such a doll. Love those little feet on the swing!
Happy Tuesday night!
xo

emily loria - I love downtowns, even better when they have hidden treasures.
Your swing pictures are divine!

Liz - Sounds like you two had a super day with great photographs capturing all the best bits.

carissa - what a day with mom. memories like that are the ones they hold close!
chandelier… LOVE! that will look great in your new bath digs!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Okay… Jillism #459. I posted twice thinking I failed the “word verification” test, only to realize that my posts were showing up at the top, not the bottom. Sorry Meg… I’m just hogging up your comment area. Just delete any duplicates for me. 🙂 ~Jill

Jill (One Wired Woman) - I need that froo froo coffee right now! Great pics, Meg. I’m in the mood to go antiquing. That bathroom chandelier rocks!! ~Jill

traci - what a wonderful day for you and annie. there are times when i miss living in town and this is one of them. i love that you can walk all over town and pay your bills and stop for coffee never once getting in your car. i kind of miss that. cute pictures too!

Mamazboyz - I love the pic of Annie and her coffee/looks like an ice cream drink!! AND the picture of her little piggies showing!! I loved the Pics of the boys with the KU shaved in their heads…Where do you live in Kansas? I lived in Kansas City for 15 years/Mission Hills off of the plaza for 5 yrs…Kansas City is one of the best places on earth!! We miss it a ton!

Jennifer P. - Precious, precious every bit of it. I’m sure tired or not, the memories of a mom who loves you stick with you. Good job!

Mallory Heffron - The chandelier is beautiful….Can’t wait to see where you put it. I love the picture of your little girl swinging and all you see is her feet….Thanks a bunch for sharing the paint info.. I just love when people share their wonderful finds and that paint color is wonderful

Allikayes Mama - You inspire me to take pictures of the everyday things! i love that! Don’t worry – you are a mom that will always be those kids best friends!!

Sara - i want to see the picture of YOU taking the picture of Annie under the swing. ha ha. I missed you last weekend…but i had fun with your big sister…

MelodyA. - What a fun day. I think I’d find a place for that red lamp. It’s very spunky. And you’ll have to post a picture of that chandelier up.
Thanks for commenting at my “house”. I’ll be back to visit you here.

traci - a chandelier on my frontsteps would make me VERY HAPPY too!!! Just the thought of it in your bathroom makes me want to see the finished bath NOW..lol
I just LOVE the pic of annie swinging high in the swing!!!!! I literally laughed outloud…again, I would frame it…just sooooooooo sweet.
And lastly I personally think with some tlc I could definately find a place for that lamp with the red, fuzzy lampshade!!!! I would paint the base white and I think it would be PERFECT…how much did they want for it anyhow?

painting

Img_1374_2

i needed to paint (primer).
to keep the young artists busy
i gave them their own project.

Img_1392_2

i had my drawers and mirror…
they had rocks and logs.

Img_1377_2

Img_1376_2

i loved hearing “mommy this is so much fun!”
from talby.
and “is there any more stuff i can paint?”
from sean.

Img_1382

Img_1391_2

Img_1402_2

mission accomplished.

Shanan - What fun! You created a great memory for your kids, and yourself as well. I love, love, love your blog and am sure I will spend many hours pouring over it.

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Shut… up!!!! How cute is that new “About Me” photo? Meggy Crocker in da house!! 🙂 ~Jill

meg duerksen - it was a fun time.
and not too messy either.
hey mallory – thank you for reminding me about the paint color.
i had totally forgotten.
sadly…it’s a color match. it was a ralph lauren
color that looked like a milk chocolate color. but
ralph lauren paint is too pricey so we color matched
it into Behr paint.
and i don’t know what the name is.
i can try to remember to look when i go again.
it is a beautiful color….i absolutely love it. i
have never doubted it once.
not much help right? sorry!!
if i can remember at home depot…or if i find the RL
swatch i will let you know.
hope you all had a great weekend!
-meg

Mallory Heffron - I just love the last picture…That is awesome….It looked like you were having so much fun…
Hey still waiting to hear from you on the paint color you used in the bedroom….Love it

traci - what a wonderful idea. your mirror is beautiful – going in the bathroom? where are you putting all the kids artwork?

southernseven - Oh, I usually just tie them to the trees, I never thought to let them paint them.

Sophia Floyd - Oh what a good mom! Killed 2 birds with one stone – you got work accomplished AND kept the kids entertained! I think you MUST keep their treasures – You Rock!

chris - You are so smart , will you get your two sinks??
That mirror is gorgeous.

Adla - always wonderful to involve the kids…bravo! By the way Lovely how the mirror turned out.

Jennifer P. - Those rocks and logs need a place of honor now :)! Your mirror looks perfect in white too!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - How sweet is that last photo?!? The image of that cute little photographer in the mirror that Mom is painting. Love it! Great mirror! ~Jill 🙂

melissa @ the inspired room - You are the best momma! And the great thing about a blog is you have it on record!! Mom of the Year.

knuckleheads

Img_1416

i finally convinced scott to let me cut his hair.
this was the compromise.
craig wants the boys to have short haircuts (conservative).
i don’t care what hair style the boys have (creative).
but now that scott plays ball everyday…
it is warmer outside and he sweats like crazy…
he was starting to just plain stink all the time.
and i missed hugging him.
so i begged him to let me shave KU into his head.
then of course sean wanted it too.
typical scott, being the smart little man that he is…
said “sean goes first. then i can change my mind if i don’t like it”

Img_1415_4

it worked out.
it’s summertime hair.

**********************************************
random things sean has said this week:

as we are leaving the swimming pool on sunday….

S: you know those camping trucks with wheels?

Me: campers?

S: yeah!

Me: what about them?

S: i wish we lived in one of those!
we could keep our money in it.
and dad could drive it to work.
we could play ping pong in it.
and we’d have our own rooms.
Dad could eat while he drove with a mechanical
arm that would come out and feed him.

Me: what kind of camper is this?

S: the kind with curtains.

————————————————————

“i wish life was free.”

so true sean…so true.

————————————————————

as i am getting ready to cut his hair….

Scott: you could put your initials in your hair!

Sean: yeah! and i know my initials.
A-S-S.

Me: uh….no.
i think you are confused.
that is a bad word.
————————————————————

Mallory Heffron - love, love, love it..you will win the coolest mom of the year award…

seve - You can bet all of the other boys they go to school with are now begging their moms to let them have KU shaved on the backs of their heads!

carissa - omgoodness! too much… funny! why not! i love that yall really LIVE!!!!!

Lorelei - hilarious. laugh out loud funny.
thanks!

traci - very cute stories and how funny to think about putting A.S.S. in his hair!!! Im kinda surprised you went with THOSE initials..lol
Ok…I think “maybe” you have convinced me a little bit about a debate my 11 yr. old daughter and I are having about ‘summer hair’….she wants hot pink hi-lights and Im big time IFFFFY on it. Dad still thinks she is not serious while Im trying to convince him she is VERY serious. You called it “creative hair”…I have a thing because hot pink tends to be associated with “punk” and I dont want anyone to think that about her or for her attitude to change because of her hair….am I over analysing? I wish I was more of a free spirit like you meg? TEACH ME!! 🙂

Jill (One Wired Woman) - You go, Sean!! Let’s all buy vintage Airstream campers and hit the road. I’ll even shave “OWW” in the back of my head. 🙂 ~Jill

Jennifer P. - Oh that camper story has me holding my gut right now. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished for a mechanical arm to come out and feed me while I was driving. And also retrieve the toys that the baby drops and screams for.
Great KU haircuts. That’s some serious loyalty :)!

kristin - 10:45 at night and sean made me laugh…the genuine surprise of laughter bubbling out. oh, i like that kid.
and i love your creative twist on a conservative haircut. : )

right in the middle of everything.
done.
out like a light.
i don’t think my babies ever did this.

Img_1182_2

jen made this quilt.
beautiful bright colors…it’s the coolest baby quilt!

I have to know, did you have a black backdrop for the black and white of London and mom? Very cool.

Lorelei - wow. your blog is so fun to read! i found it on Lindy’s Taddie Tales blog. Your kids are so cute. I love your photographs. It’s like I’m right there. I know it’s weird, I don’t even know you. But now I have a small glimpse at your life. It’s really bizarre.

mom - Definitely looks like your career after kids are in school. These are beautiful!

demo

some male bonding is going on at our house.

Img_1339_4

demolition of our closet.
all the plaster and lath had to come out.
and the boys were happy to do it.
this looks like a bad photo…
but they are covered in dust and the air is full of dust too.

Img_1341_2

Img_1354_2

the door on the right is the closet door.
the door on the left is the door to the new bathroom.
the bags in the middle are only half of them just from that closet!
and the blurry man is who i like to call my personal Bob Villa…
or maybe Ty Pennington is more appropriate?
craig seems to enjoy demolition.
no surprise there.
we have officially moved out of our bedroom till this project is done.
you can see why…
a lovely layer of dust on everything.

melissa @ the inspired room - Looks like some fun stuff going on around there!!!

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - oooh, love that brown color…….what is it?
Great photo shoot with that baby! I could just feel the squeezes.

Mallory Heffron - o.k. first of all, I want to come over and help bang on some walls. I am having a bad day and that sound like fun… I love the color on your walls. Do you mind telling me what color it is? There is noting worse than trying to pick out a paint color….it’s just easier to see something and copy……

danelle - oh! i can’t wait to see it when it’s done!!!!

carissa - how great that they are able to tackle it… together! some good ‘ol boy bonding indeed!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Hmmmmmm… there are many mornings I’d like to pound on the walls with a hammer. 🙂 You guys look really busy… the dust will eventually clear and you’ll be able to relax in a nice new bathtub, right??? Yippee!!!! ~Jill

chris - Looks like fun, oh but the dust , it doesn’t take much disruption to make a ton of dust.

Jennifer P. - Boys + hammers= big grins! SO sweet! My boys had a good time demolitioning when we were in that phase too, but I don’t think knocking holes in drywall is anywhere near as exciting as plaster and lathe! So excited to see how it all turns out!

traci - how exciting!!! Dust everywhere and you have a WHITE comforter..YIKES!!!

a few days

saturday…

Img_1095_2

look what we learned from emily.
she makes everything look like fun.
i get at least one great idea every week.
my kids loved the cooked-on designs.
craig made me a $ sign “cause you’re so money”
hee hee hee

Img_1097_2

friday…

Img_1093_2

we took the kids for pizza.
does it look gross?
it was.
as they all were going bonkers in the car on the way home
craig said “remind me again why we take them out to eat.”
hmmmm.

thursday….

Img_1055_2

annie got to play with friends all morning.
they are such creative little girls.
their moms don’t let them watch much tv…
i wonder if that’s related to how imaginative they are?
(i will pretend i didn’t notice that.)

Img_1066_2

Img_1075_2

we had a beautiful spring evening.
sunset is my favorite time of day.
the glow of the sun just makes everything yellow.
our poor bunny.
annie loves on him more than he would like…
but i think he’s happy to be out of his cage at the same time.

Img_1083_2

birthday gifts came in the mail.
craig’s new ties from the tie bar.
(great online source for ties…btw)
he has to wear a suit everyday so he gets excited about this.
then we even had a rare 10 minutes where our daughter was speaking to us.
(and even smiling and being silly)
she asked “how do you tie one of those?”
she got a lesson from a pro.
and had to take a self portrait (1 of 100 that day i’m sure)

Img_1087_2

wednesday….

Img_1047_2

melissa @ the inspired room - Wait, you have a bunny? My son wants a bunny. And a gerbil. I don’t care for rodents. But I could love me a bunny. Should we get one?

Chaos-Jamie - Great pic of you two! Annie has talent!

Allikayes Mama - Once again, your photos belong in magazines! You ARE money, girl!!

Jilly - I love the picture of daughter and dad. That is one that should be framed for sure. Just the sweetest. I love all that you do! Thanks for bringing the corners of my lips up today!

Mrs. Fox - 🙂 We made pancakes on Saturday too. Poor bunny makes me think of the old Warner Brother’s cartoon with the Abominable Snowman: “I will hug him and love him and call him George.”

Jennifer P. - Oh Meg–how I’ve missed looking at your blog for the past week. I’ve been kind of wrapped up in learning life lessons and the sort, but as soon as I popped in here and looked at your beautiful photography–everything just seemed happy! Thanks for having the eye you do!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - My favorite photo is dad breaking out the old “Windsor Knot 101” with daughter… That really is a sweet picture. She is a very pretty young lady. ~Jill

emily loria - Thanks for the kudos Meg! That picture of you and your hubby is so nice! Your eyes are glowing!

traci - the picture of you and your husband is adorable. blow that baby up!!! pancakes looks very yummy – what a cute idea to initial them.

traci - OK, I had no idea you had a bunny. what are the negatives about having one? My daughter wants one and I just dont think it is a pratical family pet…am I wrong?
Looks like a fabulous weekend…and you got bonus excitement when your daughter was talking to you..lol. My oldest daughter is approaching that “age” but she isnt there yet. We are still VERY TALKATIVE but rarely says things I find appropriate or amusing..OH FUN.
Great mommy/daddy picture by annie

Crystal - Cuuute!!! You all are so CUTE! Love the look on that little bunny! 🙂 Now I will have to post the daisy eggs we use for breakfast sandwiches… 🙂

construction

this is the craft room.

Img_1823_2

this was the west side before…

Img_9573_2

then i cleared it out.

Img_1028_2

and covered everything up.

Img_1029_2

and the new bathroom construction began.

Img_1037_2

Img_1057_2

we’re spliting the craft room in half.
there will be a wall between the bathroom and craft side.
this room was a sleeping porch (long ago)
so the floor was built sloped – a 4 inch difference.
that’s why we had to take the floor up to even it out.
we had to do the same thing in our kitchen below this room
for the same reason.
(and by WE i mean the contractor…we haven’t done a thing.)

i will try not to over post about this project.
but i am so excited i can almost feel the bubble bath now.
we have yet to pick all the tile and fixtures.
and i am picky.
poor craig.

chris - That is very exciting, can’t wait to see.

Allison - That will be a fun endeavour! Can’t wait to see it finished–knowing your eye for style I wll covet it, I am sure!

traci - how exciting. please post about the construction. i love seeing the progress. plus you have a wonderful style and i get ideas from ya.

Jenny Pocknall - How fun!
And I am insanely jealous you have a craft room! I am alway feeling guilty for taking up most of the dining room table.
Please blog continually about it.

melissa @ the inspired room - I too cannot wait to see it all unfold! Our someday master bathroom (currently a kids bathroom) slopes too! You go downhill when you come in. We will have to remedy it someday. So many things to do ‘someday’.
Big news on my blog today. 🙂
xo

carissa - glorious construction… HA!
it will all be so worth it!
you’re a bathtub… soaking kind of gal i take it?

kristin - i can see it now…you’ll be sewing in the bathtub.
: )

Jenn - Hey I actually get to be the first to comment. I am so excited for you, you will just love having your own bathroom away from the kids. You deserve that after all these years. Can’t wait to see how that old dresser works as a sink base. You come up with such creative ideas. It is good to have a neighbor close by to inspire you. Jenn
