what a nice day.
and then there are those yummy pancakes he makes.
what a nice day. church…good sermon.
meatballs and mashed potatoes.
swimming…all of us.
golf on tv (craig not me)
painting.
movie on tv.
some gardening.
it was a good father's day…wasn't it craig?
i will assume you agree.
and now let me just say a few things about why i am married to a super dad.
he can install a garbage disposal…
and fixes everything he can around the house.
he has a killer lawn.
he likes to coach the kids…most of the time.
and then there are those yummy pancakes he makes. she yells
ONE! TWO! FWREE! FOUR! FIVE!
HANNAH MONTANA!
TRAMPOLINE!
WAL-MART!
(or any other words she thinks of that very second)
TAN-NON-BALL!!!
she's such a goofball.
Love it! I especially adore her countdown. Priceless. Hannah Montana, Trampoline, Wal-Mart—-that should be JUST what her life is about right now :)! Very cute!
Hannah Montana! Ha! That is hilarious! I can not wait until my Miss Thing starts talking and coming up with classic material like that!! Whew – you got me laughing over here! Wal-mart! Oh she’s gorgeous! TAN-NON-BAAAAAAAAL! Lovely photographs of your waterbaby. I love the facial expression and the way she is holding her hands…HOW CUTE. Is that her own little pool? It isnt the big pool.
mixing edible paint.
to get crafty.
we were making sweet belinda. talby bought this book with her own money last year. we are trying to make as many as we can.
(it's a good book…i'd like to get a few of the others too)
who's eating our paint?!
crafts are messy.
do other moms get stressed out making crafts like i do?
i'm sure they do.
but kids need to make things and use their brains and be artsy.
they need it.
so i will clean it…and relax.
and someday they will remember that we made crafts…i hope.
oh sweet belinda.
sweet belinda indeed. what a cute craft. i definately freaked out about craft messes when my kids were little. but i did let my son spread field corn all over all our rugs so that he could farm with his little tractors just like dad. i do miss those days – kind of.
what a fun mom you are! we all need to make more time for the important stuff in life. stuff like getting messy with our kids. 🙂 I so so do get stressed with the mess of kids and craftiness. Just this year I’ve been able to “get passed it” knowing that the gift they’re getting through the experience outweighs the annoyance of the mess. Like you said … the NEED it! ok, can you just come & give me a tutorial on EVERYTHING!! i am a former kindergarten teacher, so I love my kids to do stuff like that…and USUALLY don’t get too stressed out about the mess…is that a book that is still available??? what is it called?? what i love about it, is it looks like things you already have around the house! what fun, what fun!
I found you on Today’s Creative Blog and you have been my inspiration! I love your photos of your kids and that it is not just one big “word” journal. It helped me as I began creating my blog. Thank you! Yep, I neeeeeed this book for sure. I used to teach preschool so messy crafts do bother me so much I just get irritated when its over and they act like its torture that they help clean after I went to all the trouble and mess to create fun. So I have to get ugly to make them help clean up then we forget all the fun we just had…sigh I’m so GLAD you said you get stressed with kids/crafts. I never would have thought. Yes, it’s stressful! Looks like a great book.
I have to tie myself to the chair so that I don’t help too much, I have to fight the big ol urge to do it for them, you know, help them. And to watch them spill stuff everywhere, really stresses me out. You are too good. Hey lady – i never would have guessed you get stressed with the mess of crafts. I do for sure! But I keep hearing how life with kids goes fast, so I take a deep breath, and plunge in. Luke especially appreciates the freedom to make a mess and get creative; i see the boost in his confidence and doesn’t that make the clean up worth it!!! 7 years ago almost to the day…
i took the kids (only 3 kids then and pregnant with talby) to the
pick-your-own strawberry farm in wisconsin an hour away.
on the drive there
little 6 year old lauren asked "is it going to rain?"
i told her "no. it's not going to rain" trying to will the rain away.
she said "well…it sure looks like it's gonna rain!"
hmmmm.
not helpful.
we picked for awhile and everyone was having a good time.
we were picking boxes full.
but above us…storm clouds were still looming.
sean was in the stroller…he was almost one year old.
scott and lauren were picking and eating.
and then boom!
a down pour of rain hit.
you know the kind…a huge amount of rain in an instant.
we ran to the mini-van.
pushing the big double stroller and the boxes of strawberries.
we are now soaked.
what else is there to do but go to Mcdonald's?
we go inside and it is packed!
(i should have left then…but no.)
we go in…3 wet little kids, me pregnant and dirty from the field AND
i had a bandana on my head because i liked to wear that then. (huh?)
so we were quite a sight.
i wish i had a picture with me in it…it would be so humbling.
we wait in line and order.
after which i realize that wisconsin McD's don't take debit cards yet.
she tells me the bank across the street (highway) has an ATM.
why do i not just say forget it at this point?
i don't have a clue.
instead we run back to the car in the rain.
drive across the highway, get $20 from the ATM and
go back into this still very crowded McDonalds.
i get to the woman who has my order and
i reach into my pocket….
i don't have the $20.
i can't find it anywhere.
i am a mess. (sadly not much has changed)
kids are pulling on me, baby on my hip, and i look ridiculous!
the cashier leans in and whispers
"just take it. go ahead. take it honey"
she assumes (and with very good reason) that we don't have the money
and we can't pay for this meal.
at this point i am close to tears.
and i say "i had it a minute ago i just can't find it"
she gives me a pity smile and whispers again "just take it"
so i did.
and that's my free lunch.
so maybe if you look homeless enough
and drag in a bunch of kids in rain storm
into a crowded McDonalds in Wisconsin
you could get a free lunch too!
or just pack a sack lunch for the car.
Funny thing..when i was reading your story I thought you said you had a BANANA on your head. I was thinking WHAT? Then I thought maybe you meant a banana clip (remember those?). Later I caught on you said bandana. Oh! It made the story even funnier!!! Hi megan, I was introduced to your blog by Jenn Thomas a couple of months ago. I am an avid reader now, I love all your pictures, stories, ideas, etc. I had an incident with speeding (and unfortunately getting pulled over) about 4 years ago. Nice police man let me off….to this day my mom says “Amy, he took one look in that vehicle and thought poor lady, look at all those kids! I have four and the last two are twin girls!! Anyway I really enjoy yor bolg and you have inspired me to try some things and also to take more pictures. I’m not real good with a camera but I’m hoping to get better:)
That was a great post! It was cute to see the kids when they were smaller. Thank you for sharing the great story… I may have to try that too =)
what a great story. do you giggle now when you think about it, or does a tear run down your cheek? the strawberries look yummy!! Love the last photo! 🙂 Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers! 🙂 I always liked that story. hee hee. Awwww, what a story! And what lovely photos you take. My sis (Chris) introduced me to your blog while we were staying with her for our mom’s wedding. It’s a delightful blog indeed!
One more thing – did you ever find your $20 bill and I was also wondering did you remember to pay for the strawberries? Oh Meg – lol – only you can seem to find the humor/joy/fun in so many situations. How encouraging – will have to remember these stories when things happen with London and the 3 older kids. Hey Megan. LOVE your blog! This brings back so many good memories of my mom dragging me and my sisters to pick strawberries every summer. I’m sure it was a bit stressful for her when we were that little, but I’m so happy she did it 🙂 Good times.
annie had her cardiologist appt. today.
it went great!
she was nervous but at least she didn't do this.
the hole is still there but since she has never had any problems she is good.
he said she doesn't have to come back until she is 5.
that good news deserves a cupcake!
or a cookie.
this was a spot we drove by and turned around just to check it out.
how could we not with this cute sign?
very yummy.
annie is quite an ornery little girl
but is just so silly and funny too.
here are some goofy things she has said this week.
*about going to the heart dr.
"i don't want to go…will they cut off my belly button?"
*about trying to help carry boxes to the garage sale.
i said "no honey you just aren't big enough."
she stomped her foot and yelled
"i AM strong enough big!!"
*her bedtime prayer tonight:
"dear jesus,
thank for our food.
and thank you for all those new shoes.
and thank you for letting me go to that heart doctor.
thank you keeping talby saved.
thank you for not letting me get snapped by a shark.
and thank you for not letting me get eaten by a monster.
amen."
*when we walked into our neighbor's house
she turned to me to surprise me and said
"See?! it doesn't stink!"
i honestly don't know why she thought it would or that it had??
*and sunday morning she was told she needed a bath.
she smelled her arm and said
"No. i don't stink well enough"
what a funny funny girl.
That picture initially made my heart break! I’m so glad to hear she’s all good. And HILARIOUS! Hat’s off to you for writing down her funny remarks too. Those will be cherished. I wish I would have done more of that for both my girls.
so glad the dr. appointment went well. what a little trooper she is. heck, i’d go to any kind of doctor for cookies and cupcakes. she is such a doll. love all the funny things she says. i wish i would have written things down that my kids said – cuz now i have no idea if they said anything funny at all.
Brave little Annie!! So glad she got a big old cookie!! ~Jill 🙂 Im glad your little girl is okay. She is adorable.
Hey Megan – David has a VSD (is that Annie’s too??) His is almost closed – yippee!! – and I had to hold him for the EKG too, even though he was only 6mos. old…its like they know what the “white coats” are for 🙂
garage sale success!
between the 5 families…we have a lot of junk.
it was hot.
good thing there was plenty of lemonade.
the cupcakes sold out.
i think they made about $15.
london wanted some too.
she was so content hanging out in her wagon all day.
making money.
we sold lots of stuff but i did bring home
a big box of clothes from the older neighbor girls for talby and annie.
and a set of white dishes.
but my basement feels a lot less cluttered.
(grandma…we sold your pergo flooring!)
after we cleaned up (and took a nap) we got together for a cookout.
afterwards the kids went to bed and the grown up party started.
it felt good to laugh that much.
and talk to so many adults at once.
it doesn't happen too much for me…kids all the time.
i was really needing some grown up time.
we have great neighbors.
it was such a good day.
thanks neighbors.
i can't wait for the 4th of July.
Looks like a fun time! It’s great you’re so close to your neighbors. We’re fortunate to be close with our neighbors too and it’s wonderful. That’s so awesome to have good neighbors. We’re moving and I am praying hard for good neighbors-it makes a huge difference! Looks like a nice day. I love having neighbors that are friends, it makes home feel so much more like home. I’m a sucker for Norman Rockwell moments.
so glad it was a success. looks like you had some awesome stuff there. what a way to end the day – food, friends and fun. Bobby…. throw another hotdog on the grill. I am still laughing at Corey’s impersonation. What a great day we had – I still think I would had as much even if I hadn’t sold anything – it wasn’t about the money I told Russ. Jenn WOW..london is getting big! Do you even really know how special it is that you have such a wonderful neighborhood with great friends/neighbors??? I like my neighborhood but are cozy with any of my neighbors….Gorgeous home, loving hubby, healthy kids, fabulous community…you really have a great life!! Looks like they could have done a feature story on that day for BHG—and used all your amazing pictures to boot! Glad you cleaned out and scored at the same time :)! You have such a fun neighborhood! Congrats on the sale.
How fun! Makes me a little sad we live on 30 acres and not a neighborhood?? Glad all the work paid off! How fun to have such amazing neighbors! I need some good grown-up laugh time too!! I need to make that happen! And again, you made garage sale pictures look so great and professional!! :0)
here is what is going on at our house today.
cooling off.
living like hoarders…don't call oprah.
the garage sale is tomorrow.
yikes.
the kids are making cupcakes to sell…and lemonade.
talby took this one…cracked me up.
making lemonade popsicles…check it off the list.
and LOOK! tile in the new bathroom is going up!
it is beyond exciting for me.
now i am going up for a nap.
there is so much garage sale stuff to do tonight.
it's a block sale so i am happy i get time with the neighbor girls.
i think margaritas may help us be more productive tonight…
or just not care.
if you are local…come by our sale tomorrow.
cupcakes & lemonade only .25
(why do keyboards not have a cent sign?)
and many other bargains.
you don't want to miss it.
ha.
lauren is embarrassed that our junk isn't very nice.
whatever.
not sure how close i was to you this week (when i was at the cabin), i could have come by and helped you price and enjoy lemonade popsicles. good luck tomorrow. hey lauren – AWESOME PICTURE!!!
Why don’t keyboards have a cents sign? Your bathroom looks gorgeous! Lucky girl! may the quarters FLY in your pouch! garage sale goodness… i love it! love having them… love shopping them! you can meet the coolest people! ewe… wish i could shop at yours! 🙂 i would certainly be buying me some cupcakes too!
Oh I so wish I lived nearby! I hope you make lots of $$$ !!! In picture #3, your littlest looks like she just snuck (or is it sneaked?) something she wasn’t supposed to! Hope you get some rest for all the people who will be wanting to nickel and dime you to death tomorrow 🙂
Hi Megan – looks like fun! Our neighborhood garage sale is this weekend too, it started today…wishing I was organized enough to do it, esp. with all the cars driving by while we played outside. Lauren is a very good photographer, your new bathroom looks great! Thanks for your encouragement on my blog. have a great weekend!
I want to come to your yard sale so bad!! However, we live in Washington State so thats a big NO! Love your blog, even my husband asks about it. Hope tomorrow is full of blessings and sales/money;) wish I lived closer…what a deal on cupcakes and lemonade….darn it !! Oh I wish I lived closer so I could play in your hot sun and come look through your “junk”. As a teenager I would never even get out of the car when my parents would go to garage sales. |

JimaieMarie - What a special post, i have to say that i too think he secretly enjoys it, who wouldnt?! 😉
you guys are an ADORABLE family, sounds like you had a great day. Treasure that incredible guy, there aren’t too many of ’em out there….you are TRULY blessed
Jill - Very sweet to honor your hubby… he looks like a super dad!! 🙂 ~Jill
Lanny Stanard - Yes now that’s a great Daddy… Looks like a good day 🙂
Lanny:)
traci - Most kids dont know how blessed they are until they are much older and usually out of the house..lol
Great men are hard to find…we have one and unfortunately take him for granted too much.
melissa @ the inspired room - Aw, that is sweet and mushy. And I bet your hubby secretly loves it. 🙂 We don’t always take enough time being mushy and sentimental, especially after all the kids come and we get tired and weighed down with the cares of life. It is so good to slow down enough to think about how we really feel, how much we treasure our spouse, and say it. Or blog about it!
Happy week,
Melissa
