my birthday was just right.

IMG_4525
craig let me sleep in and HE got the kids ready and took them to school…so quietly.
annie snuck in to tell me happy birthday and she was wearing this.
loved it.
after she was off to school i took off for wichita for some shopping/browsing alone.
(i really do love to be alone…so that was cool to get time to do that on my birthday…i am a dork)

if i had gone to the bookstore
first i doubt i would've left.

i just love looking through
so many books.
i never buy any….i am that lady.
the one with the huge stack
of books and leaves with nothing.
sorry barnes and noble.

i went to the fabric store

first and found anna maria horner
in wichita!  that's exciting.
i asked the woman working in
the tiny shop if they had more
and she very quickly said "No."
i thought that was weird.
sure enough…
i did find more in the wrong
spot…mixed in with strange
fabrics.
the lady said
"i like this Ann Martin."
????

she must need better glasses.

i met up with two girls
for lunch at sugar sisters.

we ate our cupcakes first.

oh yum…

i got the

SALTED CARMEL.
the other girls got chocolate.
i totally want to bake after
i go there…bake pretty that is.

i wished we had all day to hang out…i am sure we would have been able to talk the entire time.  :)

they were worried about their double chins….and look who is the only one who has one.  HA!

my gift was the chalkboard mug from starbucks.
i had held it in my hands earlier that day in starbucks by myself and thought

"i love this…who could i get it for?  i LOVE it!"

then i put it back on the shelf and forgot about it.

nice job craiggers.

IMG_4569

and this year…they got me a cake!

this could be a first….it's rare.

i was very surprised.

it was a good day.

craig wanted to do more for me but i kept saying "i'm fine.  let's just sit here at home."

i was happy to be home.

and loved.

and thought of.

thanks for all the birthday wishes.

thanks for reading the blog-o-la.

i am one happy thirty four year old.

eds - the salted caramel is the absolute best! (and i would know b/c one time i went and tried almost all of the ones available…oops!)

Jennifer Whitcombb - Hope you had a great birthday! What fabric store did you go to in Wichita? I can never find anything I like at Hancock fabrics! Thanks!
Jennifer

kristin - happy birthday, friend.
annie announced to the class that it was your birthday. and yes, that outfit was GOOD.

Sarah V. - I’m glad you had a good day! Happy Birthday again!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - You make me even more excited for 34. (It’s less than a year away, after all…) Also, have I ever told you how much I love the fact that you allow your kids to dress like crazy people? I let my kids dress like crazy people, too, but I think I’m the only one around my parts. All the other pre-schoolers are all “cool” looking and coordinated, while Calvin is wearing kelly green track pants with a tie-dyed t-shirt with a red IU mesh jersey over top. Hang on, almost done here…. I also love, love, love spending an afternoon alone and sleeping in is the best gift and everytime I hear “I’m Alive” I think of you, which is weird, since I don’t even know you.
The end.

Laura Phelps - WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!!! I DO KNOW WH I AM SO SAD!!!!!!!!!
You are ONLY 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
34
holy moly
so fantastic and so many kids and so talented and such a beautiful home….
and ONLY
34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel old
THAT is why I felt sad
phew…I feel better now knowing…thought I had lost my blogging mind!

Laura Phelps - I dont know why, but this post made me happy-sad. Don’t even know what that is! Just happy…to see you happy…doing things that would totally make ME happy, but sort of sad, too…because…I dont know! Maybe because the pictures are SO beautiful, and I FEEL their beauty, and I wish I could be doing all of what you did RIGHT NOW instead of having a sort or boring, depressing Saturday….wow…I think I need therapy! Got this all from one birthday post!
I just think you and your life are awesome. And I thank YOU for sharing it all with me.

Trina McNeilly - Happy happy birthday to you!!!! Sounds like a delightful day! And I know you will have a beautiful year! God bless!

Kyleigh Orlebar - I’ve just googled ‘Life is Beautiful’ – I’ve never seen it! Might have to add it to my LoveFilm account… Your birthday looked ACES BACES! I’m loving Annie’s outfit – it’s a shame over here in EnGERland little tots have to start wearing school uniform from age 4 or so, still there’s always weekends for a little outfit surprise!

I started dating my husband the week before Valentine’s Day in 1995, and so that was awkward, too.

DreamGirlLisa - What a great birthday! One of my favorite things to do,and I usually do it alone, but have been known to bring a friend or my 13 year-old daughter, is to sit for hours at B & N with a coffee and big stack of magazines and decorating/cookbooks…and I never buy anything (besides the coffee). Sounds like you had a perfect day, ending with those most important in you life, what could be better??

Kelly - happy birthday!!

Lora - OK. I need to move to the USA. They do not write your name on the cup at Starbucks here in Canada. Would it be so difficult? And, they don’t have those mugs….it’s irritating how many COOL things I see on here and try to order them, only to get the message, “not shipped to Canada”. Really, I’m applying for my green card tomorrow!

I didn’t know it at the time, but my best gift ever was a sewing machine from my parents for my 21st birthday. I always complained about being short and having to pay extra to get my pants altered. My mom thought it would be good for me to learn how to hem my own pants. Almost 9 years later I can’t hem a pair of pants to save my life, but I can definately say that my machine sparked my creativity and my love of sewing.
Take care and have a wonderful day “Whatever” you do 😉

I knew it was waaay to exspensive to even think about. But, I opened up this HUGE box and inside was this small pen!! I leaped up and gave my daddy the biggest hug. Luckily someone got a picture of that hug. It’s hanging next to my bed. Best. birthday. ever.

Sara M - Happy Birthday!

Stacie - happy birthday … oh boy do giveaways ever bring the readers out of the woodwork. the best bd gift i ever received was having my bdrm painted by my dad and husband. dad’s no longer here on earth to give gifts like that so i never ever want to change that paint. the memory of him doing that sweet thing for me is priceless!

My best birthday was when my children jacked up the heater to our pool to it’s highest setting to surprise me with a late season swim. And since my birthday is in the fall and we live in the Midwest it was a great treat to have a chilly picnic on the back deck and then play together in the pool!

I dropped everything and held onto that guy until he pried me off. It was an incredible moment.

Hannah M - Happy Birthday Meg! Favorite Birthday gift: Our first two years of marriage my husband memorized a lengthy poem for me. karla dornacher - Happy birthday Meg!! I remember the year I had to use a can opener to open my gift. My hubby had bought me an opal ring… my birthstone… and he took it somewhere to have it canned! It made me cry!!

Alisa - wow! that just looks awesome. I don’t know how you managed to pick just one photo since all of yours are so great!

Liz - Pick me! Pick me! My favorite b-day present would have to be a green necklace my husband had made for me a few years ago. It’s my favorite piece of jewelry to this day.

Rebecca - Happy Birthday! LOVE your blog. It is the first thing I check on my computer every morning. My favorite birthday gift is the check my father still sends me every year. The amount of the check equals how old I am that year. If I am with child he adds an extra dollar for the baby. Very Sweet.
Thank you for the great giveaway.

jen - happy bday 🙂 some of my favorite gifts were jewlery with my kids names/initials.

Nancy B - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG!! Wowser’s, I love visiting your blog and am cracking up at all of the responses…this is my very first time ever commenting on a person’s blog so you are the lucky one today! Amy R. - Wow, you have quite a following with over 600 comments! Happy Birthday! It was also my baby’s 1st birthday too. My best birthday gift was when I turned 30. My husband and I took a trip to Puerto Rico just the two of us. It was an awesome getaway. I just love the picture and would love to have one myself. Hope I win!
Amy

Elizabeth Taylor - This past spring I was due to have my baby a week after turning 40 and my goal had been to have all my babies by the time I turned 40. Our son arrived early, very early and contracted pneumonia so was in the NICU. By the time my birthday rolled around we knew he would be okay and get to come home soon. That was a wonderful birthday present. I have a great picture of me snuggling with my two boys and I think that’s the one I would get blown up. It’s who I am right now. It’s my favorite me. Thank you again and again for your wonderful blog, Meg. I just love it.

Kirsten Dehmlow - Happy Birthday! I would love to enlarge of photo of my daughter!

Kara Tait - Happy Happy Birthday. I just adore your blog.
My favorite birthday gift was actually the one I received this year from my husband. He saved for about a half a year, taking out $10, $5, $20 out of our bank account every week so I wouldn’t notice a big sum of money taken out at once. And he bought me a beautiful gold ring with little diamond chips all around it. It was so sweet.

jess - the best present every year are the hand made cards from the kids….thanks for such a great giveaway! love the print you had made and the whatever sign…so you!!!! have a great birthday!!!!! -jess

Lisa - Happy Birthday! My best birthday present… Um actually I cant really think, But my worst… a $10 opera Cd from hubby in the first year of our marriage. I was gutted! I HATE opera. We acn laugh about it noe but boy I wondered if I had married the wromg man. Haha.

Gina - Wow!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Best birthday gift….hmmm…my car when I turned 16!!!

Shannon - First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Your sunflower picture looks beautiful…I love the way you have everything arranged together. My favorite birthday gifts are always the ones that my kids pick out for me. Some of them are strange and some I might even consider “ugly” if I walked by them in a store, but when your child picks it out JUST for you KNOWING that you will love it…YOU DO (and it’s suddenly the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen)!!!

Sheri - I love your blog…Happy birthday! One of my favorite birthday presents was from back in the day- an adoption doll by Xavier Roberts named “Loretta Tamera”. I thought that her painted on face and yarn hair were adorable 🙂 Great give away too!!

Mrs. - I wonder, did you ever think you would celebrate your birthday with over 600 people wishing you a happy birthday? Wow, what does that feel like?
Happy Birthday,

jennifer - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! Wow…I love the picture of the picture (if that makes any sense). So far one of my best gifts was my kitten that my husand just gave me this year. Have a great day….holy moly, you have 667 comments!!!!!!!!!

Kelly - Joyeux Birthday! Enjoy your day!
My favorite birthday gift was a pin that I received from a guy I had a crush on waaaaaaay back then. I still have the pin. I think I’ll wear it today!
I was reading reader comments and wanted to tell Naomi that my mother bribed me when young- with a Dairy Queen dilly bar no less, to cut all my long hair off into a “pixie”. That’s how strong we feel the pull toward a Dilly Bar!

Nikki Wixo - When I turned thirty last year my husband surprised me with a weekend getaway to a resort similar to the one in the movie “dirty dancing” soooooooooo neat. He also booked me a massage for the 1st morning we were there. My first massage ever 🙂
HAppy Birthday by the way!

Meredith - Wow! Never commented before, but I like reading your blog. Happy Birthday! My best birthday present was when husband surprised me by flying two of my best friends up to New Jersey (which is where we were living at the time) to spend the weekend with me.

Julie - Happy Birthday Meg!
My favorite birthday gift was a meal at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island with five of my best friends, treated to us by my parents for my 21st birthday. We dressed up, took a ferry to the Island, dined on delicious fancy foods, and wandered the beautiful hotel and island for the rest of the day. I have so many great memories of that day!

Rosie - Happy Birthday!
The year before last my mom got me a gorgeous red kitchenaid stand mixer as a combined birthday/christmas present. I jumped up and down and everything.

Beth - What a swell offer, Meg — thanks for the opportunity to win a print — possibly even one of yours! (BTW, if you had to choose 5 or 10 of your favorite prints for your contest winner to choose from, which would they be? We’d love to see them…)
Best birthday gift: 4 years ago, when my twin boys were born 3 days after my birthday!
2nd best birthday gift: 2 years ago my partner gave me a quick & easy digital camera that takes terrific pictures — I carry it with me EVERYWHERE.

Melissa Varela - Happy Birthday…The best present I got was an Ipod.

Ryanne - Happy Birthday Meg. Today is my sister’s birthday too! I hope an entry at 11:53 pm is acceptable. My favorite bday present would have to be my son. He came ten days before my birthday, but I remember feeling so important on that bday. Motherhood was so much more than I ever could have imagined. I love being a mom.

Amber Clay - My best birthday ever was when I turned 21. My mom and sisters-in-law took me to New York for a girls weekend. We had the best time, just the girls!

Amy Walker - Happy Birthday Megan! Love the picture, good choice! My best birthday present was eight years ago on my birthday August 8, 2001 when my home pregnancy test came back positive, little did we know that day that God would bless us with not just a baby but our precious twin daughters Megan and Morgan!

Alice - Happy Birthday!!!! I hope you have a wonderful day!!
The best gift I got as a kid was a my barbie dream house. I play for that thing for years. and I still have it!!

Caroline Simas - Hi Meg! Happy Birthday to you and love your blog! Would LOVE the photo canvas since I love the camera…hardest part would be choosing one picture!
Best birthday was when I turned 16 and my parents took just me to NYC for a long December weekend and did the whole shabang…The Christmas Spectacular, Times Square, shopping, etc. It was so special and so different from where I grew up.
Birthday Blessings to you!

Cate O'Malley - Love the new peek inside your home, and especially that picture – so happy. And speaking of happy, happy birthday!!

Anne - happy birthday 🙂 I hope it’s been a great day!
My best birthday gift was my first bike- light blue with a white banana seat (weren’t those the best?). I was so excited about it, i peeked at my present before the party started. It was “wrapped” under a blanket so I was able to get away with it with no one knowing!

Heather - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Best birthday present- two years ago my sister took family pictures of my husband, our kids and I at the lake. I love those pictures and every time I look at them I remember what a fun and special day it was.
OH! I sooo know what picture I would choose if I won- it’s one of yours. In your “house pics” it is img8823 (bubble gum machine) I love your photography so that was a no brainer but when I saw that pic for the first time months ago I said “I want that in poster size!” How perfect.
I hope you have a wonderful Birthday!!!!
Heather:)

Dianne - Happy Birthday!
Growing up my sister’s birthday was 4 days before mine so we always celebrated mine on her birthday. Then when I left home to get married my father in-law’s birthday was the same day as mine. So the best birthday gift I ever received was one I gave myself in 1995. Instead of celebrating on June 28th I moved my day of celebrating me to July 30th! It is a secret that very few people know about but I always spend that day now celebrating my wonderful self! Happy Birthday!

Beth - My birthday is in 22 days and it’s a big one. I’m wanting to ride my bike 50 miles that day. Guess how old I’ll be??? Let me just say that you have OVER 600 COMMENTS, YOU ARE VERY POPLIER (as my youngest used to say). I would love a big photo of something. I hope the randomizer likes me 🙂

margo sexton - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
My best birthday so far was my 18th birthday. It was prom and I felt like everyone was celebrating for my birthday! It was such a fun day and with all my friends! Hope you enjoy the day!

Jamie - Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great one! One of my favorite birthday gifts was a card made by my 4 year old daughter this year. She has just learned how to write her name and it melted my heart!

christine - I really must share two 😉
The first was on my 24th birthday. My sweet husband (boyfriend at the time) surprised me with a trip to Cancun for my birthday. It was an incredible trip, and made me feel so treasured & loved. sigh…
This past birthday (my 33rd) was spent in the hospital, cuddling and snuggling my day-old baby girl. sigh, again…..
Thanks for the giveaway!! I’m crossing my fingers 🙂

Mama Kat - My favorite birthday gift was from my oldest son when he was just a baby. He finally lost his umbilical cord stump on the day he turned six weeks old, which was my birthday! =]

www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawlM6de53Phld7ORtpmmLF07hFTIKPv-Hqg - Well tomorrow is my birthday. I will turn 26. I was born on my grandmother’s (my mother’s mother) birthday. I now have two daughter’s of my own. Four genrations of vivacious beautiful women. All together. It’s really awesome. Every birthday is good b/c of this. But tomorrow might be my best birthday yet. When I got home from work this evening my husband and two(ages 20 mos and almost 4)little girls had made me a cake (HUGE task). It was on the counter with a 2 & a 6 candle on top. All lit up. They were hiding or trying to…I could hear all the giggling. They jumped out and said Happy Birthday Mommy! Nothing beats that. It’s the best. I would love the canvas. I am a picture junkie. I photograph everything. But if I don’t it’s okay. Life is good anyway! Happy Birthday Meg……..and ME!

stacy d - Happy Birthday!! Love your sunflower picture and “whatever” sign! My best birthday gift was a trip to Paris for my 30th. I had always wanted to go there and it was WONDERFUL!

Michelle - Happy Birthday Meg!!!
My favorite birthday present was my son, he arrived just a bit after my 31st birthday.

Lisa - That’s so cool. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! My best birthday present…at least one of my favorites was just last week. My husband and I do campus ministry and several of our college students filled our screened porch with over 500 balloons in the middle of the night! It was hilarious and colorful and my kids had a blast playing in them.

Sharon - A new car!! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
Sharon
slw_kerr@yahoo.com

Jainatina - Happy Birthday!
I can’t recall my best birthday gift; too many really good ones to choose from.
My best surprise gift however was coming home to find my blanket hovering over my bed. My boyfriend had snuck 6 helium balloons into my room (with my mom’s help) and managed to get them tucked under my comforter. I pushed on the blanket a little and the balloons sprang out really fast. I was surrounded by “I love you” balloons while I grinned like crazy.

Mary Jo - The best birthday gift I have received was a Coach purse from my husband…not necessarily because of the specific bag, but because he picked it out himself and COMPLETELY surprised me – just 3 weeks after our son was born. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

the wild raspberry - That is big….what an awesome photo on canvas….that would be so much fun!
Hope you have a wonderful birthday week….make it last!!
Chasity

carrie metz - Happy Birthday! Best birthday present was from my 10yr old son this year who went shopping with his own money and bought a bunch of fun things from TJ. He then ran out of money so used a christmas card for the birthday card . . . I loved it!!
Hope you have a great day . . .

sarajane phillips - Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day!
My favorite birthday gift was from my husband. My birthday was a week before our first child was born. He got me the best double breast pump a girl could ask for! 🙂 I love it.
(not so much that i would take a picture of it and use it for the canvas photo, if i win, however!) but still loved it
sarajane

Elaine Gilbert - Happy Birthday! I hope you got everything you wanted and more today!
My best birthday gift was given to me by my mom almost 7 years ago. It was shortly after my grandfather passed away and he always used to tell me that I was beautiful on the outside but more importantly on the inside, and anyone that didn’t see how beautiful I was, was crazy. That year my mother gave me a silver cuff bracelet with the Ralph Waldo Emerson verse, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us…” Reminds me daily of my grandfather and a reminder to myself to love who I am today!
Best wishes!
Elaine

Britney Camp - Best gift I ever got was a LV purse my husband knew I wanted and surprised me….made my day!

jamie - happy birthday! well, i don’t receive many gifts. but for my 40th birthday, my favorite thing was vera wang princecess perfume from my twin daughters.

Angie - Happy birthday to you! I love your blog and read it most every day. My favorite birthday gift was my senior year of high school, when my best friend got my boyfriend (now my husband) to come back from college to surprise me for my birthday. He hid in a box and jumped out and yelled “happy birthday”. It was the best gift ever, because I thought he wasn’t going to be able to travel back to our hometown for my special day.

*mindi* - Happy Birthday!
My best gift was my first camera.
And then, my second camera. 🙂

Joanna Peck - Hello, LOVE the picture you chose! My favorite was a ring from my hubby!! LOVE HIM!! Jodi

suzka - Happy birthday! I enjoy your blog and your take on life quite a bit – thank you for putting your energy toward this! My best birthday gift happened three years ago when my husband sent me to Finland (where I had lived for a while about fifteen years ago). Alone. Meaning no children. You know I love my monkeys, but seriously – I would have taken ten days in a drippy stall at the DMV parking lot, just to get a little break from sippy cups and diaper bags. Ten days in Finland (right at that achingly beautiful line between summer and fall) with great friends and fantastic food? Well, that was heaven on earth.

Logan - Well, Happy Birthday to you, Meg! September babies are so special (I say that because I am one too). Love the canvas. That is a great giveaway!! I already know who I would like to have featured on mine.
Hope you had a great day!

LeeAnn - What an awesome giveaway and Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday present would have to be my Kitchenaid mixer! I love that thing!
Thanks!!!!

Sara - Happy Birthday! What a great giveaway! I think one of my best birthday presents would have to be a bicycle when I was about 10 years old.

Kylie - Love the pic! My BEST birthday gift was when I was 6 years old. My Grandparents took me out for ice cream, and when I got home, and walked into my room, I had the most wonderful Barbie dreamhouse all set up. My parents had planned the whole thing….sent me out for ice cream, and they put it together….even the bed was all dolled up!

Staci - WOW!!! FIrst off….HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! Secondly….LOVE that sign!!! Okay, now….my favorite bd present….hmmmm….probably my 4Runner….my hubby surprised me and had it parked out on our property!!!! We drove out there and it was parked on a clump of rocks…. I did the “TOYOTA” jump…you know, I had to!!! (We have recently built our home out on that property and I get to look out at that clump of rocks every day!!!) I sure hope you had a great day!!!!!

Naomi Williams - Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one.
I remember one birthday I had when I was probably 7 or so and my very cool college-aged aunt took me to Dairy Queen and told me I could order anything on the menu and I had only ever been allowed to order a plain cone or a Dilly Bar b/c we didn’t have a lot of money, and I felt badly costing her too much money, so I ordered a Dilly Bar. I still regret that. I have still never eaten a Dairy Queen banana split or crazy $5 concoction…hmmm…what to buy myself for my birthday in two weeks…I think I have an idea!
Love the photo! Love your house!

sara graham - HAPPY HAPPY Birthday Megan! Hope it is a wonderful blessed day for you!!

jennis - Happy Bday.
The pic and your shelf set up looks great.

Danielle - Hope you’re having a wonderful birthday. I don’t have a specific birthday memory jumping out at me, but I will always remember how special my Mom has always made my birthdays…now and when I was a kid. My husband grew up in a household where birthdays weren’t a big deal. So he tries…but my Mom always comes through for me. I had a birthday when my son was 3 months old and Mom went to Gymboree and bought all the clearance stuff I had my eye on. I can always count on her to make my day.

Jennie - Happy Birthday! My best birthday gift would have been when I was 6 and I got a puppy – what a sweet little dog she was!

Elizabeth - happy birthday! i don’t know you personally, but i read your blog ever day and it makes me so happy! if you ever want to sell your house – with everything in it – let me know 🙂 also, where did you buy all your beautiful chandeliers?
the best birthday present i ever got was a quilt from my mom for my 16th birthday. i am now 23, and my quilt is in tatters (but i still can’t sleep without it). when my mom isn’t there to hug me, i can wrap it around me and feel her love – even though we live states apart.

Loren K - My dog Annie!

Nicole - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG!! I think EVERY reader is commenting on this post — all those girls that read blogs but don’t omment just decided to comment, ha!!
Best birthday gift — hmmm!! — I’ve had some good one but I think I’ll pick my 20th birthday gift from jason — he surprised me and took me SKY DIVING!! We were driving to the place when he said, “We’re going skydiving!” At that moment he snapped a picture of my face – jaw dropped!! I had briefly mentioned a year before that it would be cool. Never htought of actually DOING it! It was a memorable thing, we did it together!! Fast forward to my 31st b-day in Utah – he suprised me and took me paragliding — jumped off the mountain by our house — do you see a pattern? Is the guy trying to kill me?? HA!!
I hope you had a GREAT birthday and I LOVE the print you chose to enlarge!!

Sandy - My favorite birthday gift was when my husband surprised me with a weekend trip to Boston. I’d love to win – thanks! sks1124(at)hotmail(dot)com

Anne K - My best bday present was tickets to go see the Dixie Chicks with my cool older sister and all her friends!

mel - Happy Birthday! I am here from Heather’s blog. The sign she made you is awesome! The best birthday present I have gotten was what I got this year for my 30th birthday. My husband got me tickets to see Wicked in SF and he got me the Canon 50D. so, I have plenty of pictures to pick from for the wrapped canvas, hint, hint 🙂

amy sahm - Happy Birthday!! My favorite gift, hmmm…as a kid it would have to be a pair of red and white striped footie pj’s that had the butt flap. I was having a slumber party that year and I thought I was “too cool for school” wearing my footie pj’s w/all of my friends. But these days I would have to say my kids gifts are always exciting, whether they are super thoughtful or totally off the wall.

Christie Smith - Happy Birthday Meg
My best birthday present was a gift certificate to a spa. My husband gave it to me and it was so thoughtful.

Kelly - Happy, happy, happy birthday!!! one of my best birthday presents was when my then new boyfriend, now husband, got together with my family without me knowing it and all went in together to get a digital camera for me (my first!). It was a really special surprise. I liked that he just jumped in there with my family and arranged the whole thing. Then I married him. 🙂 Kelly

Jessica - My favorite Birthday gift was a trip to Vegas on my 21st birthday!!

pam buller - Holy crap you got a lot of comments for your birthday! I hope you had a great day!! Happy birthday!
I usually hide on my birthday…and the best birthdays I can think of are other peoples. So as far as parties go I think a trip to CO and one to Chicago with friends top the list.

Tracy - Happy Birthday!!! Hope you had a fabulous day!!!
I have some great pictures that someone (I wonder who?) took of my kids that would be great on a canvas!!!
My favorite birthday present as a kid was a Schwinn bike with the banana seat and big handle bars….loved it!!!
But, my favorite gift as an adult was a card my daughter made for me and my husband wrote something sweet on the inside…I will treasure it forever!!!

Bobbi Jo - Happy Birthday! My best gift was an engagement ring almost 8 years ago. Still love that man!!
Enjoy your day!!

Jodi Harder - I reallllly hope I win!!
My best birthday gift was an antigue American Flag with 48 stars. Very cool!

danelle - Hi Meg! I love that picture of yours. Have a great birthday. One of my best gifts was my Willow Tree nativity sets. Each year I get new pieces to add to it. It’s perfect because my birthday is 3 days before Christmas.
I hope I win. I hope I win…I hope I win…I hope I win.

Bee Vollmuth - I love Dr Pepper Berries & Cream soda but they stopped making it when I was a freshman in college. My best friend (and now boyfriend) managed to find a 12 pack online and had it shipped and wrapped from California to Illinois for my birthday. I was so psyched when I opened it!
We then found it in a Meijer a month later–turns out they just brought it back when my bf was buying it for my bday. He paid $25 to have the soda shipped to find it for $8 at the store–we still laugh about it(:

Dena - Happy Birthday!
My best birthday gift was concert tickets to see Kenny Chesney.

Bonnie - Happy Birthday, Megan!
Best Birthday present = a car from my hubby. With a big bow. It was sweet (although, 9 years later, I still own the car and it’s now a clunker!)

Jenn - WHAT? No way! Coolest giveaway EVER. Happy birthday Meg! Best birthday gift ever…? Shoot I don’t know. My son came pretty close to my birthday last year, so I’ll say he was the best present EVER.

Kelly - Hands down…THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER was going to New York City with my Mom for my 21st. The guy behind the ticket counter was making casual chitchat like, “How are you, today?” and “Head to New York, huh? Any particular reason?” Upon finding out that I was turning 21, he upgraded us to first class (the one and most likely only time I’ll be sitting there). My Mom and I spent 7 days sightseeing, walking and walking and walking, getting lost, and best of all, enjoying our girl time together.

Debby Graber - Megan, I can remember my worst gift! I wanted a camera so bad when I was 11 and my mom gave me one – I thought. Then I realized it was one you put water in and when you press the button, water squirts out. What a rip off. I was so sad. Guess she thought I wasn’t old enough for a real one. My best gift was probably a journal my own daughter hand made for me. The binding was made from a small branch with holes drilled in it. I love it and have re-read often the words I wrote down. Hard times, but times of leaning on Jesus.

Whitney Pate - first off–happy birfday!!
the best birthday gift i ever received was a my best friend meeting my family in charleston for my birthday. On my 20th birthday, my family was on spring break at the isle of palms in south carolina. my best friend and my younger sister surprised me with him meeting us. When we got to dinner, there he was!! I was floored!! i get excited just reminiscing about it!

Mary Elizabeth - Happy Birthday!
I am not sure about “the” specialist birthday, but 2 most memorable were my 16th .. my friends helped my Mom plan a surprise party and gorilla delivered me balloons.
Then my 21st … my Dad took me to “The Vienna Inn” for my 1st beer!!!! Turned into a family tradition and my brothers were taken as well. Actually my cousins were also taken there as well. My friends older brother also bought me one. A very special hang out in our hometown!!! we all made special trips home from college for this occassion .. was a BIG DEAL! ha! {PS … I hate beer too…LOL!}

Meg - Happy Birthday! My best birthday gift was a travel pillow made by my mom with my daughter’s hand and foot prints appliqued. A week later I flew to San Diego and was away from her for the first time. Spent lots of time clutching that pillow!

Bella - Sign me up for a picture of Waffle!

Shelly Primm - Happy Birthday!
One of my favorite birthdays was when I turned “28” on July 28th. I celebrated 28 days leading up to the 28th. It only happens once in your lifetime so it should be very special.
Megan, I hope someone made you a delicious cake to celebrate your birthday! 🙂

Jaime Melcher - Happy Birthday to YOU! My best birthday present was when my husband proposed & gave me an engagement ring…

Lindsay - MY best birthday gift was last year. Our first son was born 1 week before my birthday and my husband also gave me a third ring (to complete my wedding band) in honor of him!
ooooo I hope I win. I’m not typically the “winning” type but here’s hoping…

Kelly H - Happy Birthday!!
Honestly no BEST birthday gift stands out in my mind. One that does is that my Grandma Ruth bought me a Purse when I turned 11 because she said I was becoming a woman. I cried myself to sleep that night because I thought I was getting OLD (I probably wanted a barbie)…. the memory of that still cracks me up!

Kimberly Au - The best gift ever was my Big Wheel when I was 5 years old. Loved that thing! Then it was stolen from my front yard!
Happy Birthday!

Peyton M - Happy Birthday .The best birthday gift i have ever gotten would most likely be the most comfortable new balance shoes. They are awesome.I hope you have an awesome birthday.
Peyton

kristen burkhart - happy bday meg!
i would luv a pic of yours!! like children and flowers – both so pure. . . that would be my best present next bday (12/12) haha
can’t wait to hear how your family celebrated YOU!
kristen b.

wesleyjeanne - Best birthday gift ever? Hmmm. I guess it’s the laptop my hubby gave me this year. Boring, I know, but he’s a practical sort, my sweetie. Plus he gave it to me so I could use it to write a book. Which, in the end, is pretty dang sweet.
Happy Birthday. Love the photo you chose.
Would love to win.

Abby - Happy Birthday!!
Best birthday gift ever – a sterling silver cuff bracelet from my mom, with my favorite scripture.

Kat - Happy Birthday!!! Like a previous poster, my best birthday gift ever was my daughter, Lauren, who was scheduled to be born on my birthday, but the doctor decided to take her early so she could have her own special day. I LOVE that gallery picture, I know exactly what photo I would choose for it. Thanks for the chance!

Meredith Newton - Happy Birthday!
The best birthday gift I ever received was a computer from my fiance (now my husband) built for me, yes he is a cpu geek! Anyway my friend split a big glass of cranberry juice all over my keypad on my laptop : ( So my sweet guy built me one!

Christina - I just wanted to say Happy Birthday!
This year I was able to get a new lens for our camera for my birthday. 🙂

Suzanne - The best birthday gifts I received were these ceramic birthday girls each year from birth – 16 years old. Each year the girl was a little bigger, and it had the year on each. My grandparents gave them to me each year, and when I was 16, the year of the last doll, my granddad made a display case to house them all in. I thought it was a little silly at the time, but now that he has passed away, I am able to look back on it and see something that he made for me with his own hands and a lot of love!

Ashley - Happy Birthday!!!
Love the sign and gallery wrap. My sister actually works there and puts together the wraps. I am sure she did that one. Small world 🙂
My favorite gift would probably have to be my wii fit 🙂 Pathetic right? Have a great day!

Amanda - I love the idea of this artwork! My best present ever would have to be having the offer on my first home ever accepted on my 25th birthday! It may have been from myself, but it was such an accomplishment that I will cherish forever!!!

Jaimie - Happy Birthday!
My best birthday present ever was a pink bike with no training wheels when I was 6. It had a box on the front with a mirror and lipsticks! : )

Suzanne - 500 + comments! A lot of people love you, me included.
Happy Birthday to my blog obsession and virtual “friend” Meg.
The web is a nicer place with you in it!
Best birthday gift was the year my 3 grown daughters got us all manicures and pedicures together… lots of laughs and great bonding time.
Worst was last year when I bought my own birthday cake to take to my sisters because no one planned anything…actually kinda funny now…not so much at the time!

Melissa - Happy Birthday! I LOVE your blog and photographs…have been reading for months, but never commented. I just had a birthday and my lovely husband redid my kitchen, complete with our very first dishwasher while I was out of town.

Karen - Happy Birthday!! My best present had to be my 40th…my husband surprised me by arranging for our 3 children to spend the night with some great friends so we could spend a special evening out. I thought we were going out to eat, but low and behold, he walked me out to a marina. We hopped onto a boat and spent the evening watching the sunset out on beautiful Lake Michigan. That one was a keeper!!

Mandy Williams - happy birthday to you!
one of my favorite birthday surprises was on my 16th birthday. my mom and dad made a display on the dining room table. they put out all of my old little kid books, a pair of smurf shoes they had saved, pictures from past birthdays, some of my toys, etc. they even got me a smurf cake, just like the one from my first birthday party. it was so fun to see all of my little kid things on display!

Cris - Happy Birthday!
Thanks for the chance to win!!
**awesome picture**

Kristy - Holy Cow!–I can’t believe how many comments you have gotten! I will never forget your birthday as you share it with my mom–Hope you had a great day. The best birthday gift would have to be the Kitchen Aid Mixer I received a few years ago.

Christine - Happy Birthday!! My best gift was a necklace from my mom – something I’ll keep forever. If I have a daughter, I plan to give it to her for her 21st birthday 🙂

Erica Haude - Happy Birthday! The best birthday gift I ever got was when my husband and I were dating, he flew to Canada to surprise me (I was doing a mission trip with MBMSI..i know you know that that is..haha). He surprised me with the presence and a beautiful necklace…I couldn’t let him go after that!
Hope you had a great day!

posey - My favorite gift was last year, we had been married 30 years and I turned 50. My kids threw a surprise party, after we ate, my husband got down on his knees and said a bunch of stuff about how wonderful it was being married to me, and pulls out a diamond ring!!! Talk about being shocked! Never in a million years would I have expected it. The kids also, sent us to a B&B in Franklin, TN, which was absolutely fabulous! Best day ever.

sarah - My best birthday gift was my baby girl, who was born on my 31st birthday! She’s now a year old, and I’ve given “my birthday” to her!

Rebecca - My best birthday present was when my 3rd child and 1st daughter came the day before my birthday. I really, really didn’t want her to be born around my birthday, but now, I love that she was!

katie - my worst present to date was the ‘corporate sized’ edible arrangement that my husband got me for my birthday this past year. my sister had originally gifted me with a modest arrangement for doing a triathlon a couple years ago. i loved it, it was so appropriate for the occasion. because of my excitement over the gift, my husband thought a bigger, better one with more chocolate would place him in the ‘best gift ever’ catagory. not only did i think i was being ‘punked’ or on candid camera when recieving it, i also learned that he paid $175 for it. he really missed the mark! now it’s a huge family joke.

Laura - Happy Birthday to you! I don’t know what my best birthday present was. I love birthdays and my family always make an effort to celebrate them with me, which is the most special! This is a really great giveaway!

Jessica - Happy Birthday! The best birthday gift I’ve received was a weekend trip to Destin, FL with my husband…and no kids. It was the greatest!

Jill - Happy Birthday!
Hmmm, I’d have to say a beautiful birth stone necklace from my husband!

angela - hmmm…my in-laws got me a family membership to the zoo a couple of years ago – that was pretty awesome – tho’ not as awesome as a giveaway!
happy birthday!

Mary B - Happy Birthday! That photo canvas is awesome. I think I’d have a hard time choosing the perfect photo!!

beth - Happy Birthday to YOU! My best birthday was 9+ years ago. We were waiting for our first child to be born. A sweet little girl named Macy. My birthday is August 1 and my due date was July 31. Well, Miss Macy made us wait. She was born on August 8th. We were in the process of moving so by Macy being a week late we delayed our move by 2 weeks. So worth the wait! A million times over!

Aly Meyer - Happy Birthday!!
My best gift was a surprise collection of goodies from my friends that they snuck into my house for my bday!

pve - A present for me, on your birthday… now that is why I like you!
pve

Dana Banana - Happy Birthday Meggie! Hope your day was great. This sounds so bad that it took me all day to think of a great birthday present. (Since my b-day is the same week of Christmas usually we are at the in-laws, (whoopie) or traveling home.) I guess the best thing in a while is that we finished our kitchen remodel around the same time as my birthday last year. Catch you soon!

coffeeanddaisies - The best birthday gift i ever received was a necklace from my husband that is strung with beads that say: Liam & Bronte…. (our children).
tHe gift was sentimental for me (for obvious reasons), but surprisingly comforting for my 5 yr. old daughter….she told me one day “mommy, when i see you wearing that necklace, i know that i am close to your heart…right?”
makes me smile every time i touch it.
Happy Birthday Meg.
May you feel loved and close to everyone’s heart today.

Diana G. - Enjoy!!! You deserve it!
My best birthday gift was my son – he was due 2 weeks after my birthday – but he decided that I needed a “surprise” birthday party – in the hospital!!! He was a big boy weighing 9 lbs 8 oz with the biggest head you ever saw. He’s my little buddy and we love celebrating our birthdays together!

Tammy - Happy Birthday! Thanks for sharing this fantastic gift with us! I have many favorite birthday gifts…anything homemade of course, but to pick just one I guess it would be my first birthday after my daughter was born. I got a “mother’s” necklace!
Hope your birtday is great!

Samarah McNulty - Hey !
I come to you’re blog everyday when I come home from school , and Love it ! I even have a link to your blog on my blog.
My favourite birthday presnt I ever had was a hug. It was from My best friend, Lynden. She didn’t forget to get me a present, or forget it was my birthday. Thats just what she got me, and it was the best, most thoughtful present ever.
Happy Birthday ! I Hope you have a good day and spend it with your family ! ( & hope you get everything you’re wishing for! )

Lindsey Moss - Happy Birthday Meg!
Wow, I hope I win… this is such a cool prize. My best birthday gift? When I was younger I had an uncle who would wrap up a box of “art junk” for each birthday… pom poms, glitter, glue, pins, sequins, foam, colored cardstock, beads, etc… I was in total heaven for weeks after that box would come. My little mind would think up TONS of art projects from that creative inspiration. I guess it turns out that the real gift was fostering that creativity, cause now I’m an elementary art teacher!!!

Whitney H - Happy Birthday! I’ve just recently found your blog and love your photos! My most memorable gift was tickets for my best friend and I to go see Josh Groban at Starlight! He has the perfect voice for an outdoor concert!

Debra Leslie - My favorite birthday present is the cross necklace my dad gave me the birthday after I was baptized (13th birthday).
Happy Happy Birthday to YOU!!! Love reading your blog!
I am totally going to check out the link to the business sponsering your giveaway…I was just telling my sister she should look into the canvas thing for some of her pictures : )

Lindy - I have the perfect photo for this! My fave present: A Hedda Get Bedda doll I received when I was 6. My mom looked high and low and I was floored when I got her. Worst present: Chicken mug from my husband many years ago. Seriously. The neck was the handle with a head on top. But I treasure it and still have it around! Happy Happy Birthday dear Megan!

linnie - Happy Birthday!! Such a beautiful and happy space. You really do have a knack of arranging.

Becca Parker - My best birthday present was a surprise sweet 16 party, especially after I had been a whiny brat the week before because my parents wouldn’t let me have a party for my birthday. I felt like such a poop, a happy 16 year old poop. I love your pictures and the fun way you look at life. thank you Becca

alli - …and i forgot to post my favorite memory…. 30th birthday, my first-born at almost 1 sitting on my lap and squealing while helping me blow out candles, and realizing just how great life really is:).

Bailey - Happy Birthday to you!
My best Birthday present is a hand print mold from my 3 year old (2 at the time)! Anything from my kids are the best presents ever!

alli - happy birthday!!! for me, sunflowers= happiness, so that picture just makes me smile—as does your blog!! hope you had a wonderful, fun day of celebration!

Jamie - Wow! It looks great! And perfect with the sign! My favorite birthday gifts are anything my kids make…cards, clay things, cupcakes, etc. When my kids are little they like to wrap up things that are already mine…”Look, my wallet!” It cracks me up! Thanks for the giveaway.

Leann - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
The best gift ever was a carrot cake. Is that horrible that I got so excited about that?

Maria Fallon Romo - The best birthday presents are the ones that I buy for myself! “Happy birthday to me!”

The Tulip Lady - Megan, I cannot lie…I like anything FREE. Call my cheap (I prefer thrifty, smart, pretty…you get the idea) if you like, but you just made me DAY!!!
Okay, focus. BEST B-day gift EVER was the cookie that my daughter (four years old) bought while out shopping with my mom and wrapped and gave me for my special day. WORST B-day gift EVER would be receiving a used tooth brush…not that it has happened to me, just saying that would be WORST EVER. Thanks for hook’n us up with free goods! Smiles, Vicki

amy wade - Ha! Ha! I don’t know if it’s my best but, for my birthday one year, I bought the book called Getting Pregnant. A very scientific book to maximize your chances on getting pregnant. Includes diet, exercise, medications to avoid, foods to avoid, so many things. It must have worked because 2 weeks later…I got pregnant! 🙂

Jessica - Happy Birthday!
The best gift I ever got for my birthday was a weekend scrapbooking vacation.

Lauren - My best birthday present was a digital camera from my little sister when I turned 21. I got a little cranky at her for spending so much on me though!

Tracy - Well Happy Birthday!
The best gift I remember receiving wasn’t exactly a gift, but my sweet 16 party. My mom made it really beautiful. My birthday is in December and she had the house decorated with pink poinsettias. She always made it a point to be different than Christmas, I’ve always appreciated that. It was a great party, good food, friends and really fun games!

Christy Pair - Happy Birthday! My best gift ever was my daughter- she was born the day after my birthday!

Melanie - Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day. That whatever sign is so you;)

Happy birthday to you, Megan. You bring me joy on a daily basis and I wish we were friends in real life. I hope you’re having a truly spectacular day!! 🙂

Amanda - Happy Birthday! My best present was when I received my sweet puppy, Fiona! My birthday is December 31, so she was a Christmas/birthday combo. I can’t imagine my life without her! She’s my heart!

Karen E - Happy Birthday! I hope you’ve had a fabulous day. 🙂
Best bday present I’ve gotten so far is my daughter! She was early — she came two days before my birthday so she was my special little present.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

Dina Marie - Happy Birthday! Hope that you are having a great day.
As for me, I had great memory of my 8th birthday. That was when my parents had set up a very first birthday party with some of my friends at our home. My grandmother helped them. We had great time. We played outside running around by pretending that one of my friends was a monster. We also played the house inside our home. We had lunch and cake with ice cream together. Of course I enjoyed by opening many gifts. It was a great day at that time.

Di - Glad you’re having a good day. LOVE the sunflower print! Annie was so excited it was your bday today – too cute when she wouldn’t give away your age! 🙂
hmmm…least favorite bday gift came to mind: a bright pink, velour sweatsuit from my stepmom when I was 16. I remember thinking, “for real???” …ah, too bad, it didn’t fit! whew!
may the rest of your day be blessed as you are a blessing to so many…luv ya, di

Samantha Pierce - Happy Birthday! I think the best birtday present i got was a necklace from my mom last year for my 21st birthday! It was my birth stone with diamonds around it.. it was very unexpected and amazing!
By the way I look at your blog almost everyday and I LOVE your photos and am very inspired. I was wondering where you are from in Kansas also. I go to K-State and the sunflowers are my favorite!

Rachel at Pencil Shavings - Fun fun fun! Happy birthday to you!
My favorite birthday present as a kid was this gigantic inflatable Shamu. My birthday is in May, right at the beginning of swimming season and I was definitely obsessed with dolphins, whales, and mermaids. 🙂 I remember coming home from school and finding that enormous killer whale and I just flipped out. Funny what will make a kid’s day!

Carly Winborne - it’s my birthday today, too!! i knew i loved you when i first started reading your blog. and today, that’s the best birthday present i’ve gotten. funny, i bought myself some sunflowers today (to me, from me) and now i come and see this post with your sunflower photo. so fun!!

Kerry Wiebe - Happy Birthday Megs, I hope it was a good one!! My best Birthday was in Feb. when Dan threw that big party for me!!! Have a great day :)keriel6

Kirsten - Oh how fun!!!! My best birthday gift…you know, it’s just one that sticks in my mind, and it really wasn’t that great, but it marked a new phase for us…I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my first, and got a playpen for my birthday from my husband. Practical. I think there was a bottle of perfume, too, but the playpen still makes me smile 🙂

Emily - Happy Birthday! I love your blog and hope your day is great. The best birthday gift I’m ever given is time with the people I love, a date with the husband is perferable. Gorgeous canvas photo! You chose well, that must bring a smile to your face every time you look at it.

takingheart - My favorite birthday gift is always a pretty cake… Cake is my favorite food! This year, a bunch of nurses i work with threw me a surprise birthday party and one of them (a cake baker extraordinaire!) made me a Snoopy & Woodstock cake… YUM!

Libby - Happy birthday! I’d have to say that my best birthday was my most recent celebration – my 30th – spent with my hubby in Europe…our treat before we welcomed baby number three into our family!
Fantastic giveaway idea…
-Libby

Ann at the Handley Bungalow - Happy Birthday, Meg! Your photo is really neat. Wow! I hope I win! 🙂 Anyway, my favorite b-day…hmmm…I had a lot of fun parties when I was a kid. I think my favorite was going to an old-fashioned ice cream shop with a bunch of 1st grade friends. I still remember it and the piano that played by itself! We had ice-cream sundaes and watched old black-and-white movies. I think the place was called “Maloney’s” and it was in Niles, IL. Have a super birthday! Sincerely, Ann

Wendy - LOVE THAT!
My son being born. He wasn’t born on my bday, but very close.

Kathi - Happy Birthday! I love your blog. I’ve never commented, but couldn’t pass this up. Love your photos, your colorful home, you are an inspiration to me! My best Birthday gift was when my oldest son then 20 years old gave me a gift certificate to the salon in town. I think his thoughtfulness was more appreciated than the gift.

Joanna @ The Casa - Happy Birthday!!! My best birthday was my 30th. My husband, friends and I went to VEGAS! It was so much fun!

Laura Phelps - dinner at Babbo in NYC for my 30th…still dream about that meal!
and HAPPY Birthday to YOU!!!!!!!!!
Wish I could send you a CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris - The best birthday gift I ever received was a Macpro laptop!

Leah Stutzman - Happy birthday! I came across your blog through Jess & Joel’s…love it! So, the best b-day gift I have ever received is a simple solitary diamond necklace from my husband – the one he originally gave me for our one year anniversary of dating was stolen last summer, and he replaced it for me! Very sweet!

Megan - Wow! What a neat birthday gift! I hope you have a very happy birthday full of joy and laughter!
My favorite birthday present was actually for my 18th birthday. I was dating (now engaged to) an amazingly wonderful young man who lived 18 hours away. Crazy I know. But we fell in love. My parents woke me up at 5am on a wed in November (my birthday is in December so i certainly anticipating a birthday gift yet!) and told me to get dressed because I was leaving in 30 min and going to see Spencer for a weekend. This is all on video of course 🙂 All I kept saying was Are you KiDDING Me?! and then naturally thought “AHH! I have to pack!” but my mom had already done it! It was the best surprise ever and we got to surprise Spencer too because he didnt know I was coming.
Yep. That was the best gift ever and lots of fun memories!
Hope you have a blessed day!
Megan

Keri ~ ForeverFoldingLaundry - Happy 29th birthday! 😉 Hope it’s fab. The picture turned out beautiful – love it!
My favorite birthday tradition would have to be going away to the coast with my hubby. One year he had a lady come to our hotel room & I got a massage in our room with a fire roaring in the fireplace. Heaven!!
Happy day to you!

Kieu Tonnu - the worst birthday present i got was a pinata because my roommate couldn’t find anything else for me :[

Amy S - HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHATEVER! haha! WOW love the sunflowers. Favorite birthday present was my surprise party for my 39th birthday last year. It was awesome and blew my socks off! I was in TOTAL shock. Thanks for your blog! You are so inspiring and cool and beautiful and happy and have the cutest kids and dog on creation. I love that you love Jesus. (i have an almost 15 year old too and WOW we could talk for hours). Thanks and WHATEVER!!!
Amy from Bama……….

Chaos-Jamie - MARGIN! This year Brent’s mom gave me margin for my birthday. A maid and a trip to the spa. Whoot! (I hope your day was awesome…unlike mine where I tearfully told my kids “hey, thanks for ruining my birthday, that was really great of you.” I know, mom of the year. Let’s award it early! 😉

Emily D. - I think any birthday where I got jewlery would be my favorite! BTW saw your bathroom featured on BATHTASTIC! the other day!

Nadia Mercado - My favorite present was a horse when I was 14!!!!

Kelly - Happy Birthday to you! I know exactly what picture I would use. Well I think so anyway. We are going to DisneyLand in a couple weeks so some good ones might come up then too. 🙂 Anyway, best birthday gift I’ve ever recieved…hmmmm…well my birthday is smooshed in between Thanksgiving & Christmas so a lot of mine get combined but a few years ago my husband made me a “Day After Thanksgiving survival kit” and it was hilarious. That happens to be one of my favorite days and there was cash included in the kit with specific instructions to spend it on ME, not the kids, not Christmas but ME. It was pretty fun!

Heather Giustino - Happy birthday to you!!! I love the sign Heather made!! I got the “Pa’s Bar & Grille” for my dad’s birthday from her, but it says “Papa’s…” and it is HIS favorite birthday present ever!! MY favorite were a pair of tickets to see George Michael in concert – I’ve loved him since I was two! The worst was when my (now) husband and I started going out, about 11 years ago – a gold lamé coat he thought was so thoughtful, because I was always chilly. Would’ve been great if it wasn’t gold lamé!
Happy Birthday – hope your day is fabulous!!

Erin Mercado - Happy Birthday! My most memorable birthday present when I turned 12….I thought I was going to get a dollhouse, but instead I got a .22 rifle. Whaaaa?? Haha!

Kyleigh Orlebar - Happy Birthday Meg! The picture is boooootiful! My most memorable birthday present was on my 6th birthday. It wasn’t so much the present as such – although it was a lovely dolls house with lights tat WORKED! wow! But the reason it was my fave was that mum had wrapped it up in lovely bright pink paper, and it was a BIG ole box, but then she cut out the letters of my name all big in silver paper and stuck them to the present in an arc. I was all, “WOW! this is my NAME!” back in the day, before Kylie Minogue was all famous and cool, my name was unusual, so seeing it actually on the present took my 6 year old breath away… *sigh*

shiela - just being with my husband-“munch” & my 2 adorable jelly beans…simple yet memorable.

Jana - 485 Comments. Seriously. You. Are. Famous. 🙂

Jen - Happy Birthday!
My best birthday was my 21st because my husband proposed to me the night before so my first day as a fiance was also my bday!

jessica - my best birthday just happens to be my 30th…four days ago. my husband surprised me with a lunch and pedicures with 9 of my closest college friends followed by a surpise dinner with friends and family.

Haydee - Happy Birthday Meg.
The best birthday present I ever received was a huge box of diapers and wipes..we had a new baby and not a lot of money then and my husband knew what was most important..I’m sure I’ve received way more glamorous gifts than this but this one stands out as the most thoughtful and in tune with what I really wanted–to feel like we could take care of our baby.

Jill Utecht - My first baby (Hannah) was the best birthday gift I ever received. She was born 4 days before my birthday. She was and is such a delight!

Kerry - my absolute favorite birthday gift was the goldfish i received from my father for my fifth birthday. i named it cleo after the goldfish in pinocchio.

Melissa - Sorry Meg- I was so excited I forgot to leave my best bday memory…hmmm.. probably my 1st sleep over as a kid. Seriously fun!

Michele Morgan - Happy birthday!!!!

Lynette - Happy Birthday!
My best birthday was the one I just had. I turned (ahem) 40, and my husband surprised me with 40 red roses. I am a stay at home Mom, and he had them delivered to the house. I thought the delivery guy was lost and asked him if he needed directions! Then I found out that the roses were for me. It is a birthday I will never forget!

sam - I think I’m having my best birthday ever this year. After a very trying year, for many reasons, three of my girlfriends are flying into my state to spend the weekend of my birthday with me in November. I am counting down the days!

Melissa - Happy Birthday!! What an awesome gift!
I looked at getting a pic on canvas yesterday @ kinkos!
Oh, I hope I win- this couldn’t come at a better time!
Have a great day!

Julia - woops – I was so excited – forgot the other part – the best birthday gift I ever received was a watch from my husband – I look at it all the time (not just when I want to know the time) and think “wow, I’m spoiled”

Julia - hey momma! sign me up!
Happy Birthday too!

kim - Happy birthday!
I have the best birthday present pretty much every year… I get to go “home” to Cali, and visit my parents, and friends!

Katrina - Happy Birthday! My best birthday gift was recieving flowers from my husband while he was deployed to Iraq. It was so sweet to know that he thought of me 3 months in advance to order the flowers (this was before they had the phones and internet set up there) and I got a phone call from him!

Ruth - happy birthday meg!! my best birthday present was a couple of years ago, i was studying in ghana and my parents sent a package over with a friend who was visiting… full of CHEESE!! much missed… it was heaven.

Danielle Hensley - Happy birthday! I LOVE birthdays — especially if it’s someone else’s! My best birthday was last year when I turned 32. I got to go to California to visit my brother with my best friend/stepmom. It was a whirlwind 3-day trip — Hollywood for a fashion show, the Chinese Theater, Kodak Theater, and Hollywood sign; Santa Monica Pier; Beverly Hills (Rodeao Drive Baby), L.A. for my first viewing of Wicked, and Disneyland. It was a blast.
Love the print on canvas! Have a great day!

jenni - Best Birthday gift….a day of pampering from friends followed by a fancy dinner and words of encouragement (things we love about jenni…)I still have them and pull them out on hard days.

Erin - Last year I turned 30 and I got the best present ever when I found out that I was pregnant. A year later, my son really is the most amazing gift I have ever been given.

Erin - My favorite birthday present was for my 3rd birthday. Even though I was very little I remember it clearly.
I asked for a Barbie house.
My parents didn’t have a lot of money at the time, so they said I couldn’t have one.
I was SO bummed! Like I said, I was little, I just didn’t understand grown up things like money issues.
Later on that week when my birthday rolled around my mom woke ME up (because she was so excited!) and told me that I had a birthday surprise waiting in the kitchen.
It was a huge Barbie house with tons of furniture and boxes full of Barbie’s and clothes.
I remember letting out this HUGE high pitched part scream/part giggle.
Turns out she went by a garage sale the day before and found all that for next to nothing.
That’s my mom…..always finding ways to work everything out in the nick of time : )

juliann brenner - Best present ever – the Barbie-doll cake my mom made for me when I was 8 🙂

Hannah - Happy Birthday! I love the way your photo turned out. I hope I win too!

Cara L - happy birthday! last year for my birthday my now-husband proposed to me! it was a total surprise!!

Gail - My best birthday was spent in Florida driving a Mustang convertible with my hubby in December. Great times.
Happy Birthday Megan.

Terri Foggitt - Happy Birthday!!
My best present ever?? This is hard but I will have to say when my husband suprised me with Tickets to the Opera. He isn’t very good at keeping a secret but this time he managed it and it was a great evening together.

Kristi - Fun Fun! My best birthday was my 30th. My hubby helped my friends plan a surprise party and he surprised me with a pearl necklace to boot! (He NEVER gives me jewelry). Great memories!

LibraryGirl62 - My driver’s license and car, of course! Even if it was an old rust bucket-it was ALL MINE!!!

Susan - Have a fantastic birthday! Absolutely love the sunflowers photo from earlier this summer and your blog.

Melissa N. - Happy Birthday! 🙂
When my husband was deployed it was hit and miss when we’d get to talk, and since we’re only 3 days apart (he’s born first), I got to talk to him on his birthday, but my birthday was coming up and they were on a blackout so I wasn’t going to get to talk to him, but that night I got a phone call from him really late telling me happy birthday. 🙂 Made my day.

Allikayes Mama - Happy bday!! You have lots of comments!! But for a great prize! My favorite bday gift was my daughter being born….not exactly on the day, but close enough!!!! xoxo

susie - every birthday since being married, and then having our kids. Nothing material could ever compare to the feeling of warmth and love that comes from such blessings.

Stacy - Happy Birthday to You!! I think my best birthday present was from my dad on my 10th birthday. It was a dozen pink roses left on our doorstep for me to find the morning of my birthday. Loved them!

lelu - Happy Birthday! My son’s birthday is today too. He’s five. I’m not too big on birthday gifts anymore. Just love being with family and friends. But the best gift ever? When I turned 21 I was expecting my first baby and my mom gave me a rocking chair for the nursery. Five babies later I have spent countless hours in that chair. And have lots of sweet memories of snuggling tiny babies, the sweet smell of their little heads, lots of lullabies, and hundreds of goodnight kisses.

Nicole - Happy Birthday! My best birthday gift = spending time with my family. I seem to never remember the gifts from year to year, but I remember who was there!

Kimmie Jean - Last year my fiance (then boyfriend) gave me the 12 Days of Kimberly since my birthday is on the 12th of December. There was a sweet little gift each day. He wrote poems and gave me wonderful trinkets. The best part though was the dedication he took in getting them to me on schedule! He lived across the country so he had to time the mailing of each gift so that one would arrive each day. He was 12 for 12:D

Jennifer Wilde - I’m not sure that I would think so now…but at the time, I almost fainted when I opened the birthday card. At 14 years old, I got Lionel Richie concert tickets. It was so cool (at the time :o))

Erin Kathleen - Oh I hope you have a wonderful birthday!
Best birthday gift? My graduation from college just so happened to be on my birthday. Expensive, but wonderful gift.

Mandy - Happy birthday! What a fantastic idea and such a cool gift! My favorite birthday gift that I received was my first camera. That gift has resulted in thousands of pictures taken and a deep love and appreciation of photography.

Beth - Happy Birthday!
Best give ever…cash!!

Peggy in TN - Happy Birthday! Your canvas is gorgeous. I can’t think of any outstanding birthday gift, but I just wanted to tell you I admire all you do and that you inspire me to be a better person. I hope your day is full of sunshine and family. ~Peggy in TN

Regina (QueenBeezHive) - My best birthday was two years ago when my mom was in town to celebrate with me.

Victoria Spicer - Best birthday present ever? Just a cake, but it meant a lot. My husband is a C5/6 quadriplegic who was living at home with my baby sister there to help out when I was on the hospital high risk unit waiting for our twins to be born on my 35th birthday. He can’t get out and drive for himself, but he had my sister track down my favorite cake to bring to the hospital. Everyone had been so excited (and worried) about the babies that my birthday got lost in the worry. I was surprised anyone remembered.

Quinn - Ehh, see i was right about your birthday!
I absolutely love your photo, i wish you the sweetest birthday any mom, or anyone for that fact, could ever have!
I guess my favourite birthday present would have to be.. just being with my family. It is such a blessing to have them with me, and to celebrate with me… kinda cheesy but definately true!
Have a fantastic birthday! 🙂 xoxo

Juli B - Beautiful picture. I wish I could take photos like that!

Shannon - yikes, a lot of comments. my fav gift is a weekend away at an art fair. this will be the first year for that!

Danielle - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I can’t think of my best birthday gift…. pathetic don’t you think? I LOVED my 21st and 22nd birthdays though. The first was in Portland and the second in Munich Germany. Although my family whom I adore was miles away the experiences of both those times/places were such a gift!

shannon - best birthday gift was my husband secretly setting up a home gym for me! so sweet!

Secret Mom Thoughts - Happy birthday. My best gift was my DSLR camera. Love it.

Georgia - Happy birthday Megan! x
My favourite birthday was when i turned 18, (4 years ago) and i got to see my dad. He lives in Japan, i live in the UK. I hadnt seen him for a few years and as a suprise he come home for my birthday, the most amazing part of my day was going to the Zoo! and 18yr old and her dad going to the zoo together… hehe
My best birthday ever! 🙂

Molly - Oh my goodness I love how it looks like the sunflower has lips and is singing….ok I need some more sleep Ha! My best birthday present was ummmm yup a baby!

Lisa Lentini - Hmmm…best birthday present…I’d have to say finally getting my own phone in 7th grade!! I was so stoked! My parents were just sick of me always talking on the phone and this was pre-call waiting. I am old!

Sherryl Mascarinas - My husband threw me a SURPRISE 30th birthday party. I was totally surprised! He flew my mom in from California and called all of my best girlfriends. He had it catered with my favorite food (tapas) and my favorite ice cream cake (Cold Stone Creamery). And it was so unusual when everyone wanted to stay for the gift opening. I mean, who stays for birthday gift openings? Anyway, he presented me with a little box from Tiffany’s. Inside was a key. A car key. To my dream car. A BMW X5. While we were opening presents, someone took it out from the garage and parked it in the front lawn. I literally cried. It was the best birthday ever. Needless to say, 4 days later, we found out that we were pregnant with our second child (our son was born just a mere 14 months after his sister). Whoops.

Rocky - Happy Birthday! What an awesome giveaway! I am in!

Tara Carmichael - happy birthday Meg…my favourite presents are the cards my husband writes to me. They always, always make me laugh and I must say the best ones were never accompanied by an expensive gift…I think the lack of a gift was the greatest gift in the end.

Stephanie - Oh, I want that!!! I love pictures on canvas! My best birthday present? This years was pretty good. My husband (who I thought was at work) stayed home and surprised me by doing a bunch of stuff that needed to be done around the house. I was out running errands and when I got home, I was speechless. Then he took the kids, finished my errands and gave me the rest of the day off. It was better then anything he could have bought for me.

Julie K - Happy Birthday!!
Pick me pick me! 🙂
My best birthday present? A huge box of vintage cast-offs from my artsy girlfriend in NY! 🙂
xoxo~Julie

Molly - I found out I was pregnant with my first baby on my 20th birthday. That has got to be the best present ever. My daughter Daija is going to be 2 in Dec. and I am pregnant ready to pop anytime with #2, another baby girl named Violet.

Elizabeth McDonald - The best present I ever got from my husband was a Story People made out of wood.. I love it so much!
emcdonald@interiority.org
And happy birthday

Shana - Going to the cabin with girls…who happen to be FRICKIN’ HILLARIOUS!!

misty - Happy Birthday Meg!! i love the pic you chose and the colors of the suitcase/cup/books/shelf all together! The best b-day gift i received was a book from my grandmother that she filled out of our family tree, photos of her as a child, her favorite recipes, everything about her life. i treasure it and read it often. when i am not reading it, i keep it locked in our safe so that nothing ever happens to it- even if i do not win, its ok~ i just wanted to share an idea w/everyone- its something inexpensive and easy to do for someone, but priceless for the one receiving it.

Amanda - I received *almost* a baby!! He was supposed to come on my bday… but ended up arriving 6 days later instead. I can still count that right??

Amy - Happy Birthday!!!!
My best birthday gift was a beautiful bracelet that my sweet fiance (husband) gave me for my 21st birthday! So wonderful!

Mandi Humphrey - My favorite birthday was this past year…
It was great not only for the presents, but they were nice too.
Early birthday from my (now) fiance…we got engaged! (only 3 weeks before my birthday)…We had been dating for just over 6 years
Birthday present from my parents: BEAUTIFUL Mikimoto pearls…something I have been wanting for ages.
And, present from my university: Graduation 1 week after my birthday!
It was a great year. All the time spent with family. One day I will never forget.

Cindy - Hey, my birthday is today also 9/30/68 I’m a few years older than you, but am so inspired by you and your photos, blog, personality. You have the light of God shining in all you do. My best birthday is probably today…I told my family my gifts could only be homemade, and it is just so nice to see what they’ve come up with for me…Have a great day.

Abbie Toy - Love, love, love the picture – it’s so cute on your wall:) The best birthday gift I ever got a this long, creme robe that is the softest thing I’ve ever owned. It is so comfy on a cold day to wrap up in and drink hot chocolate. I would love to win the canvas photo, because, well, I’m a photo nut:)!! Thanks for the chance!

Tiffany Morris - First of all… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
This is such a cool give-away!
The best birthday present I have ever received was finding out last year that my daughter would soon come home from the NICU where she spent 2 months of her life! It was the greatest feeling bringing her home the same month!
Love your work… wish you could come decorate my house.
Hugs – Tiff

Amnah - Happy birthday! The best gift I’ve gotten for my birthday was a personal note from my husband. It was when times were financially tough for us. That note stands out more than anything else.

Ruth H. - Happy Birthday!
My favorite birthday memory happened when I turned 16. I had been listening to the Broadway soundtrack of “Phantom of the Opera” for years and dreamed of someday being able to go see the live show. My parents scrimped and saved that year so that they could take me. We flew to Los Angeles and went to see Phantom for my sweet sixteen. I’ll never forget how thrilled I was when the chandelier came flying down onto the stage and the organ began playing. Wow!

Elizabeth Flowers - Hmmmm, my best birthday present has to be my 30th birthday party that was a surprise by my hubby who, honestly, is just not good at surprises. He did an amazing job, theme, invite list, pulling it off…I love it!!

Christian T - The best birthday gift I ever got was a positive pregnancy test!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Oh my, you have over 400 comments – Awesome!!!
I hope I win!
Christian

Michelle - This past birthday I received an antique pocket watch from my mother-in-law, passed down to her from her grandmother. She knows I love all things old!
Have a great birthday!

Anna - my best birthday gift was….
My husband took me to a cabin for my birthday and my whole family was there for the weekend. A great weekend of fun! And guess what? He planned the menu for all those people and cooked (with some help from my sisters and mom). It was so wonderful because it showed his love for me by going to all that work instead of just buying something. What can I say – i just love him.

Aljolynn - The best gift that I received was actually a gift for my son’s first birthday (which was the 20th of this month). My dad had started a college fund for him – it’s something I’ve been wanting to start for him but haven’t yet found the financial stability to do so. I seriously weeped in glee over that wonderful gift.
Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for doing this blog – it makes my day EVERYDAY!

alex - Oh and the best b-day gift i ever received was going to Iowa on a plane. 🙂

alex - Happy birthday Meg! Beth is freaking out over it. 🙂 I love the picture. Please enter me in!
~Alex Buller

Lori - The best birthday gift I have received, was this summer. Having moved 500 miles away from family three years ago, we don’t throw big birthday parties. We never do anything for my birthday, specifically. This year, my friend (and photography partner), threw me a party with both of our families in attendance. A special dinner, special dessert, even a special birthday drink. They even sang to me! We finished the night with me kicking EVERYONE’S butt at wii boxing! I can’t remember the last time anyone made a big deal out of my birthday. It was so thoughtful and so special to me!
Happy birthday…hope you have a GREAT day!
Lori

Sally Hoagland - MY best birthday present was an unusual surprise party from my husband for the 2 of us. When I was pregnant with my first child, his due date was a day away from my birthday, November 30th. WELL one day I came home from work (in October) and my husband had decorated the house, bought gifts, a cake, a ton of balloons, and surprised me with a private birthday celebration. He didn’t want my birthday to be overshadowed by the birth of our first child……THAT was a fantastic gift and surprise, in October, to celebrate my 27th birthday!

lisa b - my best birthday gift was a diamond teardrop necklace from my husband!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win this. I would use it for a wedding picture of me and my husband. Love your choice and placement of your canvas and love your blog!!

April - My favorite birthday present was this year and it was from myself! My daughter and I went on our first ever, not-visiting-family-and-stay-in-a-hotel vacation. It was amazing. My daughter (she’s 13) was nearly perfect the entire time which was a gift in itself. She didn’t talk back, she didn’t argue (much), we got to be goofy and fun with each other and she didn’t spend too much time worrying about who would see us. She even held my hand in public (once, for just a minute, but still). I took 800(!) pictures which will end up being Christmas presents for my family and have a million memories of a wonderful time spent together.

Kimberly - the year i got my training wheel bike has to be near the top! i had been wishing and hoping and dreaming about how free it would feel to ride that bike all over the neighborhood. it was pretty great!

Jennifer - Happy Birthday to you… Happy Birthday to you…. Happy Birthday Dear You… Happy Birthday to YOU!
I’m going to have to go one that sticks in my head year after year… before my sister and bro-in-law got married, they were poor and in college… so my dear bro-in-law taught himself how to play the guitar and learned my favorite song and sang it to me! It. Was. The. Coolest. — and the most heartfelt gift I’ve ever gotten!
Happy day to you! Enjoy!

Kate - Happy Birthday!
I think I would like one of YOUR sunflower photos on canvas, instead of one of mine!!! : )
I would say my best birthday present was my emerald ring from my Dad. Which I then lost because I put it in my skirt pocket to do dishes (idiot). Which I then found again A YEAR later in the washing machine because it had gotten into the lining of my skirt and came out all that time later in the wash. Which I then lost again during a move. I am hoping it pops up again, cause I loved that emerald ring. : (

lulusparkles - happy happy to you!
for my birthday my sweetpie sons had my favorite mother teresa quote stamped onto a sterling bracelet for me. i will forever treasure it.
she is such an inspiration!
{before you speak it is necessary for you to listen,for God speaks in the silence of the heart.}

melissa@afamiliarpath - i forgot my best birthday gift: it was a bb gun when i was 10 years old. i loved that thing.

melissa@afamiliarpath - happy birthday! i love it printed on canvas. it looks great.

melissa - best birthday present??? hmmm….date night with The Hubs has been my favorite in the most recent years!
jakemelissajakea@aol.com

Holly S - Happy Birthday! I made the rainbow cake on Monday & it was gorgeous!! My 4 year old squealed when he saw it! My best birthday gift was my surprise 15th birthday party… my parents rented a school bus to take all of my friends to play laser tag.

alyssa - Happy Birthday! Hope it’s a good one.
hmmm…best birthday gift…breakfast in bed!!!I’m easy to please, I guess.

Kim - I had a surprise party given for me when I turned 30. I had never had one before. I was totally surprised and in shock for most of the night!! It was so much fun!!

Jill A. J. - Happy Birthday, Meg! I will forever remember it because both of my moms'(birth and in-law) birthdays were yesterday. What an awesome prize! I really hope I win!
Um, I know this sounds bad, but I don’t really remember gifts. I can tell you that the best birthday I’ve had lately was my 30th. My husband invited all of our friends from college to our house for pizza and games. That was fun!

Janine - Happy birthday!! You have a great birthday because it is mine too! Thanks for sharing your awesome blog. I found it through the web awards a few months ago and I love reading it. The pictures you take are so beautiful. Enjoy your birthday with your family and friends.
Oh and the best present? probably tickets to my first professional football game. So cool!

Holly - Happy Birthday…Oh, I hope I win this prize on your birthday 🙂 My favorite gift was a special day of surprises planned by my husband – including a relaxing massage followed by a surprise luncheon with about 20 of our friends and family. He even arranged for a babysitter, bought a beautiful cake and had gifts there for me to open. I married a good man!

Julia - My 30th was the best. Hubby shopped for me at White House Black Market, took me on a get-away weekend(no kids) and a surprise party at the end. It was fabulous! I’d love a canvas!

Jenn - Oh me me!! That is gorgeous!
My b-day was last week and my girls made me the sweetest homemade cards. LOVED THEM!!!
Jenn

Candi - My favorite gift is something that I’ve gotten each year from my grandparents for the last several years: a family pass to the Sedgwick County Zoo. Being a single mom trying to go back to college, it’s awesome to be able to take the kids out as often as we like without it costing us each time. For Christmas they get me a family pass to Exploration Place as well. 🙂

Erin Johnson - I was given a professional pregnancy massage when I was pregnant with my first which was the greatest thing ever!!

Amber - my best birthday gift? really??? i love birthdays. and i love celebrating birthdays. but i honestly can’t think of a single birthday gift that has put me over the top excited. is that sad? so i guess i’ll just share about my last birthday. the big 3-0! 🙂 my husband sent me flowers. a few friends gave me gift cards for a local coffee shop and my mom gave me 30 packs of gum, 30 packs of kleenex, 30 $1 bills. all great gifts! really. i’m grateful! just not anything to get too excited about!
now, if they’d given me a beautiful gallery wrapped canvas print – i’d be completely stoked!

Blanca - Happy Happy Birthday! Wishing you a fantastic day. I LUV your WHATEVER sign and canvas pic.

Betsy - Happy Birthday!
My favorite birthday present was one I gave to myself: my schnoodle, Minnie. I bought her for my 25th birthday and I hope she’s around for my 40th birthday! She has brought so much joy into my life and I can’t remember what I did without her to sleep on my lap, bark at me when I head for the dog food closet or kiss me when I’m feeling grumpy!
🙂

Kristi B. - happy birthday! would love a canvas for my home!

Whitney R. - Happy Birthday to a fellow September birthday girl!
I think my favorite birthday present would be not material but when my sweet hubbie cleans the house for my & takes care of the littles when I go out for a Me day.

Maria - One of my favorite gifts was my ipod nano I received (and, ok, begged for) for my Birthday last year. I don’t know how I ever lived without it.
Love the picture! What do you use those little clothespins for?…they look so tiny!

Annette - Happy Birthday. A home made cake, and my husband was the chef.

Amanda B - Happy Birthday Megan! Sept. bdays are GREAT!! I can’t believe I’m commenting and trying to win this thing…what are the chances?!?!? But here goes. My favorite bday gift of all time was probably my ipod. I love it. That’s boring I know. But I really haven’t gotten that great of gifts that I can remember. Poor me.

Holly - Happy Birthday! Your photos are beautiful.
My favorite birthday present was when my husband stayed home from work on my birthday. He got up and acted like he was going into work and then said, “I’m staying home today.”

Kambria - happy birthday little lady!

Amy - My favorite birthday gift is from this year (I really can’t remember many birthday gifts – very sad how bad my memory is). My mom knew that I wanted a basket for my bike and so she special ordered one for me and put the picture in an envelope for me since it hadn’t arrived yet. I appreciate true acts of thoughtfulness and this was one of them! (Happy birthday to you, btw)

Sara - Hmmm…I would say my last birthday! I turned 32. It was a SNOWDAY so I didn’t have to go to my job as a teacher AND I got to stay home with my kiddos and hubby. It was perfectly awesome! 🙂

Meredith Salmon - My first was last year and it was a couple of days early, but Baby Todd came. He was due the day before my birthday but came 4 days before. He is such a gift. What a wonderful little boy.
Another gift was superficial but it was a surprise. My oldest son Jack and my husband a couple of years ago, bought me a 1″round diamonds in a circle. It was expensive, but we usually spend the day together or very small gifts (which are my favorite gifts). It was great because it is one of the best pieces of jewelry I have and it is from my boys and totally unexpected. Happy Birthday Meg!!!

Routhie - hApPy BiRtHdAy To YoU!
My favorite gift: every year my Grandmother made me a piece of clothing. I don’t remember a lot of these gifts, but my favorite was a robe. The fabric had apples and leaves on it, she trimmed it in red, and I still wear it almost 20 years later. She has passed on now, making the robe all the more special. She would be proud, but not surprised, that her workmanship has lasted so long. 🙂

Jocelyn Stott - Well hey there – Happy Birthday!!!!
The best gift I ever got was just this past August when I was flown to England to see my fiance who has been over there since Jan. while we deal with immigration.

Jennifer - Worst? Nothing. Not for Christmas. Or anniversary. Or Birthday. For 2 years. As a NEWLYWED. Hubby just didn’t “get it” that these things were important. So I went out & bought myself an amazing necklace that I figure cost as much as 2 years of gifts. HE WAS THRILLED!!!! All that pressure was off of him & he was overjoyed.
Yes, we’ve had some talks since then. And are coming up on 12 years of marriage. Hm. Wonder what I should buy me for a present?

Amber@alittlemorecrazythancool - So excited for this opportunity!
Best bday present ever would have to be just homemade stuff from my cute kiddos!!! 🙂

Linda - September birthdays are the best! Happy Birthday to you!
I “collect” sunflowers and admire your picture so much. When I was 17, many, many moons ago, my friends came over and we made a spaghetti birthday meal and talked, laughed, and had a great time.

Sarah - Awesome! I just had a birthday in August, I turned 30 and my husband surprised me with a Canon Rebel XTi camera. It is most definitely my favorite materialistic thing I own. I take it everywhere with me and have already captured some great memories.
Happy Birthday!!! And, thanks for sharing on your special day. Do something special for yourself, too!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - The best would have to be my husband to read Total Money Makeover and getting us started! It was just what I asked for!

Kelley W - My favorite gift was a gift certificate for a cooking school!

Elisa - Happy Birthday!!!!!!!
As for the birthday gift, well…. I’m lame and can’t think past last year. My husband got me an iPhone. LOVE IT. I and seriously didn’t think I would.

Christa - I would LOVE to be able to get one of these. And BTW – U2 concert was last night and it was amazing!

Lisa - Happy Birthday! I have been reading your blog for over a year and never comment. Don’t know why, but this contest was too good to pass up. Kind of shallow I know. 🙂 My best present was years ago when my husband surprised me and dropped me off at a salon for a day of pampering.

laurie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! My favorite present would have to be my camera. I bought it as a gift for myself. :0)

Danee - Happy happy birthday Meg! Best birthday ever? well my birthday usually falls on thanksgiving or somewhere that week and 2 of my 5 kids birthdays are that week also so by the time we get to my birthday we are usually all birthday-ed out. One of my best birthday presents was my “practically perfect in every way” {name that movie}
3lb 15oz full term baby boy that the doctors said would never make it. He turned 2 days old on my birthday. That was a true gift.

Jackie Parlee - Happy Birthday Meg! I love your photo…if I win, can I choose it? 🙂 Hope your B-day is the best ever!

Jacqui - happy birthday meg, love your blog and check every day! best present was the year my husband bought me flowers when everyone else in my family forgot! we were overseas and the time difference confused them all!!

Mindy - My worst birthday was when we were going through IVF treatments so I was very hormonal and my husband had to go to plumbing class? that night and I sat in the dark on my bed and ate a large pizza while I had several phonecalls that I didn’t answer and my dad sat outside my house for a couple hours. Sounds weird huh? Hormonal may have been an understatement.

Alexis - Wow, I can’t imagine I’ll win with all the great entrees already posted, but I thought I’d try. The worst was a nitted sweater that was neon striped, went to my knees and had grey dancing elephants on it. Yeah…beautiful. 😉 I can’t remember if I ever wore it…maybe in a thank-you picture to send to my loving creative grandmother who gave it to me.

CraftyRachel - Happy Birthday! Love your cabinet and bookshelf, by the way.
My husband (at the time boyfriend) surprised me with tickets to “Les Misérables” on Broadway. The show made me weep, but it is one of my happiest memories and definitely the best present I’ve received!

Laura Kinsley - Happy Birthday!
The best birthday gift I ever got was an amethyst ring from my Great Great Grandmother.
Pick Me!! 😉

kristi siegel - i check your blog all the time…. everyday. but, this is my first comment. so, i may seem new to YOU, but, you aren’t to ME!
~happy birthday~! ☆ so fun.
mY favorite bday gift was when i was in HS at some point and my mom found a drawer in my room that had like 52 rolls of film (ahh, the days before digital!) and she took them to HOOKS (again, old school if you remember that drug store) and developed EACH of the 52 rolls for me and wrapped the huge stacks of photos in a big ribbon and presented them to me. it was one fabulous, well received gift. i will never forget it.

Ashley - The worst gift I received was from my husband in our early years of marriage, which explains the gift, he wasn’t “trained” yet! He gave me seat covers for our car. I was sad but hated to admitt it. Now I can look back and laugh like crazy! Thanks Meg!

Melanie H - Hi Megan – Happy Birthday!
My best birthday present ever was the year my friend Suzanne brought me a whole Lemon Cream Cake from Olive Garden. And no, I didn’t share it with anyone :).

Dina - best birthday was the year after I had my first child – my best friend took me to Hot SPrings for the weekend. it was the first full nights’ sleep I had in 8 months!! LOL
you rock – and happy birthday!!!

Allison - Flowers from my husband while we were still dating…and the promise that we would have many more birthdays to celebrate together!

Jenna Blair - I hope you have fun plans for your day!
My best birthday gift was a guitar on my 10th birthday. I never wanted something so badly, and finally got one. I used the money I got from other relatives and bought myself 10 weeks of guitar lessons. I was so proud. Now, at 25, I don’t play nearly enough, but everytime I look at it it reminds me of how great that birthday was.
Thanks for letting me share 🙂

Alysa Clark - Too many great birthday gifts to remember so i’ll pick my most recent one. For my 40th birthday, back in June, I received a Canon EOS Rebel – i’ve been wanting an SLR for years so this was a perfect gift!

Jennifer - Happy Birthday! My best birthday present was new tires from my dad…I know…really boring but its always the last thing I want to spend money on so I thought it was really thoughtful.

The Countess of Nassau County - My mother-in-law and husband threw a surprise party for me while we were vacationing in Palm Desert. I was lured out of Mom-in-laws house using the old let’s-get-our-nails-done trick, and after THE best mani/pedi ever I came home to a house ready to party. Great time.

Jessica - Happy Birthday Megan!
Love the picture over all the books!

Teresa - Happy Birthday!!
My best birthday gift was this gorgeous amethyst rosary an old friend gave me. I mentioned it casually once that I wanted one that I could some day pass down to my kids and he surprised me with it. 🙂

Kit - Happy birthday, Megan! Your blog brightens up my day. I LOVE it!
It’s hard to pick the best birthday gift. I think it may have been when I was 13 and my parents gave me a kitten. It was a complete surprise and so fun! Thankfully, I’ve had lots of great birthdays since then!
Thanks for the giveaway!

Rachel @ Chicks & Chaps - Happy Birthday MEG!!!!!! I just love you and your blog and wish you nothing but the best for your special day 🙂 It’s a coincidence that I became engaged on my birthday and found out I was pregnant with my first (not the same birthday! lol) and I think those are two pretty awesome gifts! This is a super giveaway, I would love to blow up some photography… fingers crossed!

Rachel @ Chicks & Chaps - Happy Birthday MEG!!!!!! Jen - My husband got me UGG slippers last year for my 28th birthday. I would never splurge on something like that for myself…so it was nice that he got them for me…and I wear them EVERY day 🙂

Stephanie Armstrong - Happy Day to you !!!!
one of my favorites was when my daughter bought dime sized diamond earrings for me. she said mommy you lost on of your goods ones and i wanted to get you something very sparkly. oh and did they ever shine 🙂

Alana Gray @ Gray Matters - What a wonderful giveaway! My best all time birthday present happened this year on 9/3. I received breakfast in bed from my husband and three kids!

Laurel - Happy Happy Birthday – my best gift was a getaway with my hubby!

Denise Wright - That is a wonderful vignette!!!!

Ashley - My little brother and my best friend took me to Krispy Kreme donuts for my 18th birthday, that was the best present ever 🙂 I love Krispy Kreme like nothing else.

Tasha B. - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m lame, I can’t think of a stand-out birthday gift I received. How ungrateful of me! I will try to think on it and be thankful!

Lynn - Last year my 95 year old Oma took me to dinner as my gift and that was better than anything she could have bought me.

celine - happy birthday!! big barbie doll head when i was 6 so i could do her hair. i grew up to be a hair stylist:)

pam - best b’day gift…always the handmade cards my girls make me.
worst b’day gift…the flu.
xo

J.B. Kinrich - The worst birthday gift was from my parents when I turned 20. Momentous occasion, right?–finished with the teen years, into the 20s? I got a red plastic ladybug desk set. As in, red plastic staper, pencil cup, blotter pad. All with ladybugs. Ugh.
The best birthday gift was the following year, my 21st, when my parents made it up to me. They gave me diamond stud earrings. One diamond was a family heirloom, and for the other, they traveled to the Diamond District of our big city to find a perfect match. MUCH better!

elizabeth holder - My new Canon 7D –
Happy Happy day
thanks for the giveaway!!

sherry - Happy Birthday!!
Best birthday–going to a NBA game with my husband and kids a couple years ago. Loved it.
Worst birthday–my fiance (now husband) decided to go out to dinner with some buddies b/c he forgot it was my bday…he paid for it later :).

Bethany Tee - My favorite present was when I turned 30, my three best friends and I received a weekend get away from our husbands. We were all 8 months pregnant and turning 30 so it was much appreciated!
Is it bad, I’m already trying to figure out what picture I want to make into a canvas…I’m optimistic, what can I say 😉
Happy Day!

Leah - What an awesome giveaway Meg…thanks! The best birthday present…when I turned 13 my Mom threw me a surprise birthday party. I just remember having so much fun! I dont rememeber a specific gift…but the party was the best part.

Kacey - Happy birthday!
My best birthday gift – gosh, I think tickets to the New Kids on the Block concert when I was 12! I was so excited to go with my friends.

Meredith - Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday present (brace yourself, this is weird) was when my husband (boyfriend at the time) paid to have my cat “fixed” and declawed. I was a broke college student head-over-heels for the gangly stray kitten that kept lurking around my apartment. My landlord had a strict “no pets” policy but finally caved under my begging and said I could keep the cat if I had him declawed. Franklin (our cat) is the best birthday present I’ve ever received!

michelle - Happy Birthday Meg!!!!
LOVE the canvas, your pic, your whole little display of goodness! My best bday present is probably the one I’m about to recieve… a trip to Norway to visit an artist friend!
You inspire me to want to decorate and make my life pretty. 🙂

Natalie - Happy Birthday to you!!! Enjoy your day 🙂
What a gorgeous photo! I love it! I love every gift I receive for my birthday! I don’t have a favorite really.

Shelly - My best birthday was my sweet 16. My b-day is on Jan. 3rd. We always threw a New Year’s Eve party at my house, but that year, my family and friends also rolled in an early surprise party for my birthday! SO much fun!

Katie - Whoa at all the comments!!
Happy Birthday Meg! I love your canvas, it’s a beautiful shot, even better on a gallery wrap!
The best birthday gift- when I was 7 my dad gave me the most adorable blonde cocker spaniel puppy. He was my first pet and I absolutely adored him! I would love to have another one just like him one day.

Amanda F - Happy Birthday to You!!! Hope your day is wonderful!! And what a thoughtful offer for us!
My worst birthday was my 21st; we found out that morning my Papa would require emergency brain surgery, and exactly 6 weeks later he passed away. My best birthday was my 26th; we had a new daughter at home, and as absolutely sleep deprived as we both were, my Hubby was up all hours making me a chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese icing ENTIRELY from scratch. He could barely boil water when we met. It was so completely thoughtful and delicious; we ate some for breakfast.

Cass M - oh, LOVE canvas prints!
happy birthday!! (it’s my son’s 1st today too …)
best birthday present … hmm … the massive surprise “all night event” when I was 17 … it was brilliantly pulled off by my friends!

Nina - Oh I would so love to win this……I have so many awesome pics from the beach it would be hard to choose but it would be fun to have!!

Jody Bachand - Happy Birthday Meg!!
I think my favorite bday present was an amethyst (my birthstone)ring from my mom on my 16th bday. She was a single mom at the time and didn’t really have that kind of $ to spend. I wore that ring FOREVER …actually wore it out. It now sits in my jewelry box and still loved…BTW, I’m 51 yrs old now!

Misty C - several years ago I rec’d my first coach purse – from my parents
this was big – and my dad went in the store with my mom to purchase
my dad does not like to know the price of anything and my mom never would spend so much on a purse of her own so this will forever be a very special coach purse
b/c my parents knew how much I would love to have one but would never purchase for myself – too many kiddos to keep in clothes!!!

Angie - Happy Birthday. Love the sunflower picture…so gorgeous!
Favorite birthday gift: I found out I was pregnant with my son! (this was 11 years ago ) The perfect gift.

Aimee - Happy Birthday to you!! First I want to say that I love love LOVE this contest!! We just built our first house just over a year ago and the walls are still in desperate need of some great artwork! I love the photo you chose. I just reading your blog almost a year ago and I love you photos, your house, and all the color in your life.
I have two birthdays where I got the best gifts. The first one was when I was a kid. My nana told me we needed to go to the airport to pick someone up but didn’t tell me who. We were at the airport waiting when all of a sudden i saw my great grandparents coming down the hall. They had flown it to spend Christmas with us that year (my birthday is 3 days before Christmas). That was my best birthday surprise.
My other favorite birthday was 2006. My husband surprised me with a red (my favorite color) KitchenAid stand up mixer. I had wanted one for a while but totally didn’te expect it that year. Six days later I gave birth to our second son. He was an even better birthday gift.

Shannon - Best birthday gift was just this month! My husband bought me a Nikon D90 and I LOVE it! I love that canvas too!

Lisa - Hmm… the best? Not sure. The hubby hasn’t given me one in a few years, it just “slips his mind”. But he always makes up for it on Christmas – I get the most awesome Christmas presents!
Hey, if I get picked, we can say it’s from my hubby b/c you know he’s not getting me a gift on my b-day again this year on October 5th!! 😉

The Lady of the House - Wowzer! Lots of comments 🙂 That’s cool! You really do have a cute blog here. Love the pic you got done! Nice Job! Please do enter me I know Just what I would do!
Fav. birthday present would probably be when my mom planned a surprise party and I didn’t know and on the way home from school I noticed all my little friends weren’t getting off at their house and then all the suddent they all got off at my house. It was fab!

Julie - I started reading your blog off of the link that’s on the Mac’s. Happy Birthday. My worst birthday present was this year… and I’m not sure if it really qualifies for a present… BUT this year I turned 30 and we drove down to Savannah, GA for the weekend where there was a Moroccan restaurant I had been hankering to try. I had a piece off of a metal scrubber you use to scrub pots and pans with in my food. Which was in my mouth.

Joye May - Happy Birthday! Never left a comment, but love reading and enjoying the “eye candy”. Best bday gift is breakfast in bed with kids, cards, husband. Worst was a thigh master (I mean, seriously?) 🙂

CarolineMeyers - Happy Birthday Meg! Your whatever sign and canvas look terrific! The best birthday present I ever received was a kitchen aid mixer from my (then boyfriend) husband. I love to bake!

Christy - Awesome give-away! I know which one I would choose too.
My best birthday present ever, my son. My 30th birthday. After many years of hoping & wishing, my dreams came true.

Shelley C. - Happy Birthday!!! Best Birthday gift = Sea Monkeys…worst gift = underwear. Hope I win!!!

amy Mumaw - Happy Birthday! My best birthday gift is just being alive and being a teacher to wonderful special education students and being a mother. I have a close friend who unexpectedly just lost her son to SIDS, so I am thankful for the things God has blessed me with:)
Amy Mumaw

Boss - It was my birthday on Monday, and I’m still accepting presents. So pick me, and we’ll call this the best gift ever. (Even though it was really the all-out celebratory bonanza my husband and my 2-year-old planned for my 30th birthday.)

Stacy - How funny – I just recently discovered your blog and read it almost daily. And that was before I knew we shared the same birthday!!! So here’s hoping both of our birthdays are wondefully special!
My best birthday gift would have to be my iPhone that my husband got me last year. At first I thought they were completely useless or just something for completely self-involved techies to show off. Now, I’ll admit, I’m an addict!! I have 8 pages of applications (including one entire page for my 3 year old’s games!) and never leave home without it (or turn it off). It has literally revolutionized my life! And as a mommy of two (3 and 15 months), my life needed a little revolutionizing!
Happy Birthday again =)

Rebecca - Happy Birthday!! 🙂 My best birthday gift ever was my surprise 30th birthday last year…my friends and family bought me baby gifts since we’d just gotten the call a few weeks earlier we were chosen by the adoption agency for our baby girl! 🙂

Amanda - WOW! This is so awesome! I love how you used the new green box. Happy Birthday!
Love,
Amanda

Veronica - Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great day! On my latest birthday I received a beautiful ring from my sweetie with our names engraved, two hearts and our birthstones. Love it!

dawn - Happy Birthday!!! I got engaged the day before one of my birthdays (can’t remember which one — I’d have to do the math!) I then spent the NEXT birthday in chemo. Yes, chemo! I was really sick and it was really not fun — but I’m still here — so I’ll take the tradeoff. 🙂 I’m going to go check out their site… I love the idea! Thanks for sharing.

Heather - Happy birthday! I so love the daily uplift you bring to my life through your blog.
The best birthday gift I received was when I was about 12 years old. I collected the big, nice Disney Snowglobes (that started at around 65 bucks), and my parents gave me one for Christmas each year and one for my birthday. My best friend at the time saved her money for months so she could buy me a snowglobe too. I was so touched, and am even more so now, to think that a young kid would save all their allowance just to spend it on a friend.

Trish - this is a great deal! my fav gift has to be my MAC from my hubby I got last year 🙂 Also, last year I got a mother’s necklace made from a good friend… it’s so special because it even has the gem from my daughter that is in heaven 🙂

Bre Ann Gilfillan - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
My favorite birthday present was a new MacBook from my husband.

Anonymous - Happy birthday Meg!
My best birthday present was probably a surprise party that my boyfriend and friends threw me for my 23rd, I was in total shock when I came home to a house filled with people! Our whole flat had been made out in an under-the-water theme with the walls covered in coral reef material and plastic fish and shells dotted about the place. My friends had dressed up as sea creatures and made me a costume (a crab!).
Anyway, hope you have a great day! I’m guessing I’m not eligible for the draw as I don’t live in the US?!
Rachel

Jenny Wenzel - Hey Meg…happy happy day!!! Great to have you at our garage sale last week!!! Let’s see…best birthday gift would have to be my twins that were born 6 1/2 weeks early, but five days after my 28th birthday!!! Pretty awesome!!! Have a good one!!!

Maggie Black - Happy Birthday! Nice to meet you at my garage sale.
Maggie Black

Heather - My Nikon D40!!

Kimberly - Happy Birthday! I dont know about a best present, I do have a great memory. Before I was married and started spending all my birthdays with my inlaws (my birthday is a week after Christmas) my mom, sister and I would spend the day together. For dinner I would always ask to get fresh crab. We would all sit around talking eating our crab. I loved those dinners!

Chiot's Run - I’ve been thinking about getting one of these for my bathroom. HMM, not sure which photo I’d choose.
I like yours though, looks great with all the other cute stuff. I love love love that green suitcase.
Last year Mr Chiots bought me 4 hydrangeas for my b-day, and that’s the best present I’ve ever gotten I think. I love them, and they’ll last for years and years in the garden!

ang - Love the picture!!! Best gift??? Hands down, it has to be the Miss Piggy puppet I received for my 8th birthday. I still have it and my 5 year old HATES it!!!!

Michelle - Happy Birthday! Love your sunflower picture!! Best birthday present, my Kitchen Aid mixer for my 30th birthday. Love it!

Alicia V - The best birthday gifts are packages from home when I live far away.

Kameron - Happy Birthday! That picture is awesome and I would love a huge picture for above my mantle! The best birthday gift I have ever received was probably my sewing machine. My hubby thought I would never use it but I do and I love it!

Heather - Oh, this is so fun!!
The best birthday gift I’ve received is a fabric basket insert for my bicycle basket. It is fun and girly with retro flowers, but the best part is that my son picked it out so I could use it when we can go on bike rides together.
I hope you have a lovely day today. Happy Birthday!!!

Dar - My favorite birthday present was the year my friends drug me out of the house to paint ceramics with our kids. I was seriously ill and house bound at the time so it meant so much to have friends at the worst of times.

Kate - Happy Birthday, Meg!!!
Best Birthday Present – concert tickets 1993 Billy Joel and Elton John, Dallas, Texas!!

Christin - Happy Birthday! My best b-day gift would be my easy bake oven.

Kori - Happy Birthday Meg, I love, love, love your blog!
I’d say my best Birthday present ever was last year when my mom gave me her bible. She’s had it as long as I can remember, and it’s chock full of her notes in the margins and little notes and drawings my brother and I did for her as children. It’s all beat up, the corners of the leather cover are all raggedy, the chapter tabs are mostly gone…And my mom’s name is embossed in nearly rubbed-through gold on the lower right corner. Every time I look at it I am hit with a flood of memories.
Of course I have several copies of my own, but this is the bible that usually makes it into my bag for Bible Study and the like. It’s so neat to open to a passage and be surprised and blessed by her notes from some long ago sermon or study- like my own personal commentator. 🙂
Blessings!
~Kori

Lisa - Love it! Can I have the sunflowers, too?? 🙂 Happy Birthday!

Laura Moffat - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN! Hope this is one of your best years yet 🙂 What a COOL birthday present! Thanks for sharing with one of us! I’m crossing my fingers! I’ve been wanting to do this for years but it never seems to make it into our budget 🙂

Bec - my favorite part of my birthday isn’t really the gifts. each year I ask for the same thing. A cook-out, black magic cake, and invite my grandparents, pastor and his wife, and of course my immediate family and sit out in the garden eating and having a fun time. I honestly don’t remember a lot of bday presents………..those don’t always give a lasting memory! The cookouts- now that’s memories!

sara's art house - Happy B-day!!!!
My best present- my friends filled my room with balloons.
LOVE your sunflowers!!!!

tasha roe - Happy Birthday! HOpe you have a fantastic day!
The print is stunning!!!
My favorite bday gift was a video that my husband and kids made together for me mimicking the one from 50 First Dates that Adam Sandler made for Drew Barrymore. I get all teary eyed thinking about it!!

sarah - Happy Birthday Megan!!
Giving something away on your birthday, pretty awesome of you 🙂
My best birthday gift ever would have been 3 years ago, David and I used our points to go to New York at Christmas time (my birthday is in October) and my dad gifted us a hotel stay for the time we were there. So all we had to pay for was the fun stuff! SO awesome!

missye - Happy Birthday! I’m a September girl too!
Hmmm..best birthday present ever…I would have to say my 17th birthday. One of my BFFs and I share birthdays a week apart, and for our 17th birthdays, our moms took us to NYC. We had a blast, laughed hysterically and still to this day, some 24 years later, talk about that trip.

robyn Beckley Vining - my camera so i could launch my business. from my dad. because he believed in my skills. and that probably speaks bigger than any ole camera. oh, and my husband willing to do whatever it took to help me get started. even if we had two little humans running around. so, freedom to return to being an artist. and the support of my family. and a camera.
🙂
gorgeous wrap. beautiful. what a fun celebration of your skills!

Esther Lunstrum - Happy Birthday!
The best birthday present was from my fiance, this year he took me out to a fancy show in Seattle AND bought me a beautiful ring and little trinkets. It was perfect for my first birthday together with him!

Tess S. - my new camera!!
happy birthday!

Sarah B - Happy Birthday!!! The best birthday gift was on my 25th…I lived far, far away from my “home” (parents, friends, sister) and they all chipped in and got me a ticket home for a week long visit.

Amy - PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!

Adrienne - Happy birthday! The best birthday present I ever received was finding out I was pregnant with our first child just a few days before my birthday!

Alison Schroeder - For my 27th birthday (okay, a week-and-a-half early) my husband and I found out we were expecting! That lovely revelation sort of {wonderfully} erased any memories I had of my birthday that year!

Amy - i have a wonderful old balck and white photo of my house from the turn of the century that i have been wondering how to put it into my decorating …this would be perfect..thanks for the chance

elizabeth - Happy Birthday, Meg! I love birthday presents and can’t think of a favorite. I CAN think of a worst, though, and that was from my new boyfriend. He was from Europe and I was turning thirty and expected something amazing and beautiful and me. He gave me a nylon Janzten backpack. I wept like a baby, so hard that I’m embarrassed about it still to this day. I landed up marrying him a year later, though, and he’s never given me a “bad” present since!

Chris - Happy birthday from the UK Megan! I hope you have a marvellous day, filled with presents, balloons and lots of cake 🙂
Last year, I got a surprise trip to my favourite book store and was given 27 home made vouchers; each voucher equalled the cost of any one book of my choice. Best. Birthday present. Ever.

Michelle B - Happy Birthday! I think the best birthday gift I got was this year when my husband surprised me with a fancy new camera!
Love the sunflower picture! Can you come to my house and decorate for me?

Laura Brooker - I grew up in a village, small town Nebraska. Now I’m living smack in the middle of the city and your blog makes me feel like home!
Happy Birthday. I hope you get to pick all elements of the meal and share it with family – my favorite part of birthdays.
Laura Leigh

Brooke - Happy Birthday Meg!! The best birthday present I ever got was my first SLR, a Canon Rebel. It has opened up my world to endless possibilities, new adventures, and an opportunity to see things I would have never noticed before.

Cindy Ashmore - Happy Birthday Meg! Hope you have a great one.

amy - Happy Birthday! Beautiful picture! I would love to canvas wrap the most perfect picture of my daughters and hang it where everyone can see!!

S. Riggle - Happy Birthday Meg! The photo is awesome!!

Shawna - Happy Birthday Megan! Which birthday is it for you? I would love one. I do not have a picture of all of my kids together yet, since my last little girl. My best birthday gift ever was my husband taking me antique shopping in Paxico and other surrounding towns for the weekend with no kids and then of course out to eat and some wine tasting. It was wonderful!

Lee Ann Willis - HaPpy BiRtHdAy!!!!!
Hope it is filled w/ happy things you love!

My best and worst present is one and the same. Last year I got braces.

Lindsey - Perhaps my best and worst birthday present happened last year on my 28th birthday when I was violently ill yet pregnant with my beautiful baby boy. Morning sickness sucks (especially on your birthday).
Lindsey

Vicki - Happy Birthday Megan!! Love your pictures and your website!!
That picture is so gorgeous (my fave flower)!!! I would LOVE a 20×20 canvas print – gave me goosebumps!! I am getting ready to make a photo wall – what a perfect piece for it!!
Thanks for the chance! Hope your day is wonderful!!!
Vicki

lena - Have a BLESSED Day!
My best present was walking into an immaculate home – not the way I left it. Everything was meticulously cleaned, even my bedroom the default storage room. My husband rounded up all the kids and worked non-stop. It was the best gift b/c it was completely tailored for me and gave me such JOY. The kids loved seeing my face when I walked in the door.
I can’t recall what this surprise was for, my husband is always finding ways to show he cares.
Blessings –
Lena

Clare - My best birthday “gift” was a surprise party. My 19th birthday I had been away from home since Christmas the year before. I didn’t have any idea until really close to the start of the party when my brother had to go on a beer run and he took me to the liquor story 20 minutes away-when there was one within 5 minutes, and I couldn’t even go in the store. A lot of my friends taht I had not seeen for months were there too!

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - i hope you’ve gotten lots of birthday love! that corner looks amazing with all your goodies displayed! i want that turquoise tin so BAD! i am so glad you love the sign. one of a kind and perfect like you 🙂
best belated (by a week) bday gift? a trip to kansas with good friends 🙂
xx

Laura Rizzi - Happy Birthday to you! At the time I thought I deserved more than a sewing machine for my 30th bday…but it has served me well and I so enjoy creating with it!

Mom - PICK YOUR MOTHER!!!
PICK ME!
Hope your birthday is fun-filled. LOVE YOU

Lisa - Happy Birthday to you!
The best present I ever got was a bright orange KitchenAid mixer! I would love to have one of your photos hanging on my wall-thanks for the chance! 🙂

Kelli - Happy birthday! I hope you’re having a wonderful day today!
A few years ago, when Celine Dion moved her show out to Las Vegas, I was dying to go! I told my dad about it and I talked about it all the time. I never thought it would happen. Then my dad passed away from lymphoma and I forgot all about our/my big dream. One day a few months later, my dad’s best friend told me that my dad had indeed been planning to take me to Las Vegas to see Celine Dion in the near future. It made me cry to know that my dad had been planning that big surprise for me, but I realized I’d never go after all.
Then last year for my birthday, my mom gave me two tickets to see Celine Dion in concert (not in Las Vegas, but in my hometown). I went with my college roommate and had one of the best nights of my life. I was so grateful to my mom for making this silly, far-fetched dream of mine come true!

Anna - Happy Birthday to You! It looks like my best birthday gift will be next year.. I’m due for child number 2 on my birthday!

jenn breuklander - The best birthday present ever….after 36 years thats a tough one! But I would loooove a canvas of one of my favorite shots that i just took of my two year old birthday pics i just took 🙂
jenn t

Lori Danelle - This is really sad, because I know I’ve gotten “better” presents, but the one that is really sticking out to me right now is the bike my parents got me while in elementary school. They brought it to the school and left it in the bike rack with a giant bow and balloons on it. (they were waiting in the parking lot nearby) I then got to ride it home from school with my Dad. Loved it!!!

Amanda - Happy Birthday!!
I’d have to say one of my best birthdays was in college and my friends threw me a surprise party in the cafeteria, complete with a handmade construction-paper crown! We probably didn’t have $10 amongst us but it was one of the greatest days.

Lorilee - Happy birthday! Hope you have a lovely day.
My favorite birthday was the one I just had. My hubby took the day off to spend it with me. I didn’t have to make any meals, change any diapers or clean anything up. It was nice just to spend time with him as well.

Teri - Happy Birthday!!! Have a wonderful day with lots of cake.
One year for my birthday, we spent the day in downtown Chicago. We spent hours at the Field Museum and walked the frozen lake front. We also ran into the Shedd for a quick moment (we were members and the kids couldn’t understand why we didn’t go since we were right there.)

alicia - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
Amazing picture. My best birthday gift was turning 35, realizing, while jumping in the balls at playworld with my 3 kids (4 now), that I wasn’t too old to do that and with my awesome kids and husband, there was nothing that could be given to me that could make my life more complete!

Jenna - Happy Birthday Meg!
Best gift…my 11th birthday, an aquarium and about 11 fish. They only lasted a couple of months though when my then 3 year old sister decided to ‘clean’ the tank by pumping it full of hand soap!

Kasey - Happy birthday! Best birthday present? Hmmm… I can’t even think of one right now. Isn’t that sad?

Missy - Love, love, love your sunflowers! I would probably have to say that my kitchenaid stand mixer was one of my favorite birthday presents. As we get older, we tend to not receive as many gifts so I guess I would say that just living another year to have a birthday is a great gift.

amy - Happy Birthday to You! I have enjoyed reading your blog and love your dog “Waffle!”

Jenny - Happy Birthday!! I recently started reading your blog, and love it so much. You, your family and house are all SO WONDERFUL! Hope you have a great day!

Amanda Etter - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. And me too, we share a birthday. What a wonderful, blessed day!

Brooke - Happy Birthday to you! 🙂 I love birthdays!
I have a couple of favorite gifts. One was that my hubby ask me to be his wife on my birthday and of course that is very special to me. And dating way back to the ripe age of 13 I got one of those giant trampolines and I still think that was a pretty great gift. I LOVED jumping on that thing.
Thanks for a chance to win…on your birthday 🙂

Meredith - I think the best birthday present that I ever received was my watch. I had been wanting it for several years and a few years back my husband surprised me with it!

Holly - Happy Birthday. This is a wonderful giveaway! Thank you!

Gram - Happy Birthday, I love all your photos. My best birthday gift is having my children remember it is my birthday.

jerusalem - love love this! and yesterday was my birthday, we are September babies together!! happy day to you!! hope it is lovely!

Kelly Anne - Happy birthday to you! My best birthday gift…was a combination birthday and graduation gift. For my 18th birthday, my mom gave me a bag full of travel books from the library. Which was weird. But the books were all about Paris, because we were going! It was just my mom and me for a week in Paris. I’d never crossed the ocean before, but had been talking about Paris my whole life. It was perfect.

pedaling - oohh, i could think of a few images i could use.
happy birthday!

Susan - Forgot to share my best birthday story (ooops):
I was 36 and pregnant with my daughter. After 3 miscarriages it was a gift beyond compare. She is my gift from God. My best thing ever.

Theresa - Happy Birthday!
I’m still pretty young to REALLY choose a BEST birthday present, but I would have to say the best so far was my brother buying me a new camera for my birthday after I ran mine over with my car.
He also got me another present that birthday which if you have the time and want a laugh, you might enjoy the story: http://theresasadventure.blogspot.com/2009/09/birthday-presents.html

the best birthday gift i’ve ever gotten was my fiance coming to visit me last-minute when we were dating long distance.

Faith - Happy Birthday to YOU! I love your pics and encouraging posts. we’ve just had anniversary portraits taken and I’d love to have one put on a canvas!
Have GREAT day!

Jody Kilpatrick - Happy Birthday Girl. I love your blog.
Dandelions from my boys.

Krista - Happy Birthday Megan! Hope you have a wonderful and stress-free day! The best and most unexpected birthday present I received was from my friend of more than 20 years. We don’t normally exchange gifts, but one year she sent me a beautiful necklace (similar to Vintage Pearl) with my daughters’ names on it. It was so out of the blue and so thoughtful, it is one of my most treasured things I wear. Loving your blog and reading about your family’s adventures, it really makes my day and inspires me to be a better wife and mother. You are the best!

Todd & Carrie Hessel - Happy birthday Megan.
I got married on my birthday.

Todd & Carrie Hessel - Happy birthday Megan.
I got married on my birthday.

jennifer - Happy Birthday to you! Hope you have a wonderful time celebrating!
I LOVE those little yellow rainboots! How stinkin’ cute are those?!

Shar - Happy Birthday to you! What a great give away, would love to win. I will tell you about my worst birthday gift ever received (or so I thought at the time). I was in the 8th grade and received a square dance outfit that was lime green with silver rick rack trim! Now, I ask you, how many 8th grade girls would wear that? I didn’t even square dance. Funny thing is, that it has provided me with many laughs since then. So, maybe it was a good memory maker after all!

Trina McNeilly - Your picture looks great…. and what a great giveaway! My favorite present was when my hubby and I were only dating we flew to San Diego for the day!

Jodi - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
I think the best birthday present I received was my Mom’s baby ring. I’ve contemplated wearing it as a necklace, but I’m so afraid of losing it, I keep it tucked away…
Have a glouriouly fabulous and peaceful day.. oh, wait a minute,.. your a Mom…
Try to keep it together til bedtime. HA
Hope you get everything you want for your special day…
Jodi

Renee - Happy Birthday, Meg! One of your posts said something like ‘thank you for sharing your sunshine’ and I couldn’t agree more. You really brighten my day.
Best birthday present? I met Steve in May of 2000, and for my November birthday (I was turning 30) he told me to get a passport and took me to London! I had never been out of the country before, so it was really sweet. And he flew us business class to boot. I really wanted to make out with him on the plane, but there were on-lookers, so we didn’t. LOL
Have a great day. Hugs to you.
xoxo

Zarah - My birthday is not until the spring, but I think the best birthday present I ever received was finding out I was due with my first child on my birthday! (We’ll see if it actually happens, but hey – still pretty cool!)

beth - Happy Birthday! The picture is wonderful 🙂
Beth

jody - great photo canvas and pictures of your home.

i’d like to think my best birthday was my actual “birth day” (can’t remember, though:))…being a mom of 4, i think those “birth” days are the best—meeting those babies for the first time, so sweet.

Rachel - Best birthday present – when I turned 16 I got my first “nice” tennis raquet. Worst birthday ever was when I finally got pregnant after a couple years of trying and then I miscarried and had to have DC on my birthday.

Summer - Happy Birthday and I love your blog…so happy! My mind is like mush today so I’m having problems remembering what I did yesterday, but this year’s birthday was pretty sweet. I turned 30 this year and my husband gave me homemade cards from the kids and a SPA DAY!!! I had NEVER had any form of a spa treatment before in my life…no mani, no pedi, nothing. Needless to say, I truely appreciated and loved the gift! Have a Great Day!

My favorite present came last year. I got a trip to South Africa! It was awesome!

Becky Wilkinson - WOW!! I love those sunflowers!!
My favorite birthday gift was when I turned 21. My mom and dad gave me a beautiful hope chest filled with some of my past and some of my dreams. I now use it as one of my side tables and find myself sifting through all the treasures. My favorite is my love letters from my high school sweetheart (my husband now). I plan to do the same for my girls when they celebrate 21 years. Maybe I can put a canvas picture of them when they were 6 and 3 (taken by you) in their hope chest????

amy - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
My best gift ever receieved has to be my first SLR camera. My husband gave it to me 8 years ago and it started an obsession with photography that has led me to meet so many great people and capture their memories for them!

Tiffany - HaPpY bIrThDaY tO yOu!
My favorite birthday present was the gift I received this year from my husband on HIS birthday! It was a new digital canon camera…a power shot SX10nIS to be exact.
He said since he is getting older and bald, that I deserve a present on HIS birthday for putting up with him!
Oh how I love this man! 🙂
LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Nicole - Happy Birthday! I think my best birthday present ever was from my then-fiance. It was a KitchenAid mixer in gorgeous matte charcoal gray. I LOOOOOOOOVE to bake so it was an amazing gift and a total surprise. 🙂

Natalie Roe - im bending the rules but it was a christmas present – since my husband and i were married pre-digital-as-mainstream-age, we only had about 50 pics from our wedding. my parents contacted the photographer and bought ALL of our negatives from him. of course i cried big tears of joy when i opened the present – its was the BEST!
great giveaway!

Gentry Tubbs - Happy Birthday!
The best birthday present I have ever gotten was for my 20th birthday last year. My mom got my fiance and I private swing dancing lessons! I have always wanted to learn! It was so much fun!
Hope your birthday is amazing!

Stephanie - Ooooh what a great prize!!
Instead of giving each other material things, my boyfriend and I usually go on little trips to celebrate things like birthdays and anniversaries. This year for my birthday, we went to Vegas (first time for both of us!) and he took me to an amazing dinner at Michael Mina.
Happy birthday Meg!

Sandy - Happy Birthday, Meg!! If it’s ok with you, I think I would choose the picture taken of your son on vacation…where he was feeding the squirrel in front of the sign that says Do Not Feed the Animals. That’s the first one that came to mind.
Enjoy your special day!

Kimberlee J. - Happy Birthday! I’m fairly certain that the picture that I would choose would be one of the pictures that YOU took!
My favorite birthday present is when my husband takes my birthday off from work and we spend the day without our kids. We usually get massages, spend a few hours at Barnes and Noble and have a great dinner out. That is the absolute best!

shelly c - Happy Birthday Meg!
My fav birthday was a trip to my fav farmers market (hotel, crepes in the morning, Madison….so fun!).

Sharla - Love your picture – its perfect there. My favorite birthday gift was my son, who was born 2 days before my birthday 3 years ago. All I wanted was to meet him (and not be pregnant anymore!).

Amy - I hate to say this after all the meaningful posts above, but getting my iPod on my 40th was the best birthday gift ever. I LOVE music and I LOVE my iPOD!!!

Katherine @ Grass Stains - The best birthday present I ever received was my first TiVo!

Melaine - Happy Birthday to you!!! The best birthday presents I have ever received are the ones hand made by my kids! Seriously! LIz M - Happy Birthday. Best birthday gifts: handmade cards from the kiddos. My fave featured the broken off tip of a pencil secured with scotch taped and read, “You are as sharp as a point!”

Hard to pick a best birthday gift — my hubby is pretty good at gift giving. I’ll have to say it was book he had made for me full of pictures of us and our family!
Enjoy your special day!

Amanda - Happy Birthday!
That picture is so cool…I want!

Lynette - Happy Birthday, Meg! I LOVE that print! The best birthday gift that I have ever received is the “gift” of time! Time to seize the day and do “whatever” I want! On my birthday, I get to choose what I do, where I go, where we eat, etc. It really is great not having to get 5 people to agree on choices for the day! Whatever I say, goes!!!

Reeanna - The best gift I ever received was a car from my parents for my sixteenth birthday!! Thanks for the chance to win.

Shelly, in Overland Park - Oops… I completely forgot to tell about a birthday of mine that was very special…
A great birthday was when all our friends and family got together, and my husband proposed to me in front of everyone. I was completely surprised, and it was very sweet how nervous he was and had it all planned without me knowing =)

Kristen - Happy Birthday, hope you have an AMAZING day!!!!!!! Funny, cause my birthday is today too! LOVE your blog, not sure if I’ve commented here before, but I love reading about your family and all your fun crafts. Hope you have a great day! and LOVE the picture on the canvas.

The best gift I ever received was from my now 6 year old son. He is a blessing in every way. He was 4 years old. It was his first birthday card to me where he could write (legibly) and he wrote “I love you mommy” in his own hand writing. He had picked out the card as well. It was such a gift. Everything my little Luke does is a gift from God. I am so grateful for him. He is our miracle baby in more ways than you will know.

Amy Martell - Awesome giveaway!! The best birthday gift I’ve ever gotten is one that my husband gives me every year. We give eachother handmade creative cards – and I absolutely love them! We don’t buy eachother gifts anymore because this is so much more fun. This year he bought a piece of huge posterboard and decorated it with pictures, string, stickers, his writing, drawings, etc. It’s the best gift ever!

May all your wildest dreams come true.

That thing has been so much fun to play. Although walking around the corner at my surprise 30th, and seeing you and baby Talby flown in from Chicago…That was a pretty good one too. 🙂

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Happy Birthday! I am drooling over the colorful vignette under your fantastic photo.
My best birthday gift was maybe 5 years ago when Cory “commissioned” (sounds so haughty!) an artist friend of mine to paint me a picture of peonies in front of a chippy white barn.

Freckled Hen - Happy Birthday!
I love the photo you chose…your sunflower photos are among my favorite that you have shared.
My favorite birthday gift would have to be the year my husband surprised me by inviting everyone he could think of to a surprise party. We are a military family and are usually away for celebrations. It was a special day! Of course I drove in clueless after being at the flea market for hours with poofy hair and no make up (you get better bargains looking like that!) and had to see many people I hadn’t seen in years. Even now, ten years later, it is still way up on my list of favorite days.

Erica - Way to share your birthday Megan! 🙂
This is a hard question… Peter got me my first laptop awhile ago and it was a total surprise… but he also got me a diamond ring that was also a surprise… he done good. It’s a toss up. Did you share your fav. gift?

Laura - Well Happy Birthday!!. I have never left a comment and can’t even remember how I found your blog…but I love your pictures, your house, etc. I only wish we lived closer because I would love for you to photograph my sweet boy.
Please check us out if you ever have time!!!

I hope I am a lucky ducky!

Michelle - Happy Birthday!
If I get “my birthday cake” from my mom for my birthday, then it’s always great. We don’t live near each other now so I haven’t had it in toooo long. {sigh}

Amy Fair - A hand-made journal from my husband.

vintagehomeandgarden.blogspot.com - My “best” gift comes every year. My husband puts so much thought into my birthday gifts. It is usually something I mentioned to early in the year during some random conversation, I am always amazed that by September he remembers it! He must take notes! ;o) What a guy…

Anonymous - My grandfather passed away on my birthday this August. It was so sad and so wonderful at the same time. We had 15 people gathered in his room to celebrate his life and help him to pass on. A fellow Kansas girl who relates to sonic/sunflowers/ and fields of grass.

Sherri - Happy Birthday! The best present I have ever received was on my 18th birthday. My papaw had passed away earlier that year and my mamaw gave me her engagement ring. The band was worn through in one spot. He had long since replaced her diamond with a bigger, more sparkly version, but she always wore this one.

Susan Bruner - My favorite birthday was when I was 40 and pregnant with my first and only child. I had my sonogram and found out I was having a girl. I was totally shocked because for some reason I always knew I was having a boy.

Joanna - Happy Birthday Meg!
Best Birthday gift? Hmmm? The last several years or so my grandma has given me some of my old “artwork” that I did for her years ago and also old letters that were written to her and grandpa from me. It is so much fun to look back on these and laugh! Each year she laughs and says there are plenty more where those came from. I feel so special and blessed knowing that she kept all this stuff for all these years thru all their travels and moves. She always leaves me wondering what will it be next time.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Fav birthday present – I can’t remember right now, but I got a cruise for Mother’s Day this year. 5 days with a friend – no kiddos, no husband, no cooking or cleaning. It was wonderful!
Have a great day!!

Nikki - Happy birthday! I never really got birthday gifts growing up, we were usually handed $100 and got to buy whatever we wanted, which usually ended up being lots of candy and bell bottom jeans from thrift stores. The best birthday gift I ever got was being allowed to have 20 girls from my school over for a slumber party. It actually ended up being a pretty bad gift though because one of them kissed my boyfriend who was at the boy slumber party next door, then someone fell off a swing and got a concussion. Oh well it was the best birthday gift at the time I guess! 

Beth Ann - My best birthday gift was the wonderful dinner my husband made for me and I got to enjoy with my family.

Cath W - Happy Birthday! My best ever birthday gifts are the cards my children make me each and every year. I’ve kept every one.

My favorite birthday was my “Star Birthday” this summer. My husband agreed to let me spend $$$ to throw myself a big hosting party. I had consultants from seven businesses (Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, etc.) and my friends all came to shop their hearts out. I then got all the fabulous hostess gifts, but best of all I had all my friends in one place having fun!

Meaghan - Happy Birthday, Meg! Have a fun day! Your canvas photo looks awesome with your *whatever.* sign. Love all the colors together.
My favorite birthday gift was watching my husband make a cake with my then two-year-old daughter (my oldest) this past year for my 30th birthday. It was the first time my husband has ever baked anything in his life, I’m quite sure. Watching the two of them do that together for me just melted my heart and made me feel so very blessed.

Jo - BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT! Mine ran a day late. I met my fiance the very next day 😉 that’s a great gift to me! And he is still absolutely the best!
Thanks Meg!

maybe it was the one time i came home from work and john hung a new pottery barn chandelier in the kitchen.
maybe it was the time my mom and favorite cousin flew in from new jersey and chicago and hid in my spare bedroom to surprise me.

I can’t recall a BEST gift I ever received, but last year’s was pretty special. When my parents and I were visiting the Cleveland Museum of Art I fell in love with an Ansel Adams photograph. They remembered this and for my next birthday they got a poster print and had it professionally framed. I love it and it’s hanging in my office. That was pretty cool.

Art Cant Hurt - it was last year – i turned 30 the day after we found out mom had terminal cancer. that might sound crazy but I didn’t want anything more than to feel the tangible love of my family. We were all sharing tears and laughter as our emotions ran high but it was everything wonderful because we were TOGETHER and that’s something we take for granted too often. God is good.

Amy - Happy Birthday!
I love big canvas prints. What a great prize!

Honestly, my best bday presents have been homemade ones from my kids. Now that they are teenagers, those are rare to non-existent so I am so glad that I can look around at the slumpy clay vases/pots/?thingys, homemade jewelry and paintings that I received earlier. I love your sunflower canvas, indeed that whole vignette with the Whatever sign. Looking at your blog is happy-making!

The best birthday gift I ever received was a playhouse that my dad made for me when I turned 10 (I think). It was basically a shed that he added windows to, but he made the whole thing himself. They use it as a garden shed now, but it definitely got good use back in the day.
I hope you have a great day!

By the way, that picture is amazing! Have a great birthday!

Wendy - Happy Birthday, Meg! I hope it’s a wonderful day for you. 🙂 The best present that I can remember was for my birthday last week. Two little pom-pom animals hand crafted by one of my children (the chocolate raspberry fudge cake made by another child was too die for too). 🙂

Tiffanee - I’m a big fan of Birthdays- Happy Birthday! The best gift I ever got was my 17th Birthday, April 9, 2001. My Brother had received a liver transplant in February and had been in the hospital since the previous November. He came home for the first time in 6 months on my 17th Birthday 🙂

Chrissie Grace - I love that whole vignette. I want to sit right there and look through all the books…:)

He fixed it up and spray painted it white and blue and put blue shiny ribbon tassels on the ends of the handle bars that floated in the breeze as I rode along. It was the best birthday present ever! And now that I’m a parent, it means even more to me that he went to all that work to provide me with something that I wanted!
I love your sunflower canvas. It is just stunning!

Lulubird - Happy Happy Birthday!!
My best present ever? that would have to be when my husband proposed.
all together now…. “awwwwwww”

Penny - Happy Birthday Meg. I love your display. The colors are wonderful. The best birthday gift I ever recieved has to be the surprise 40th birthday party my husband threw for me. It was so out of character for him to do something like that. All of my friends and family were there. It was so nice.
I would love to win this canvas and use one of my daughter’s great photo’s and surprise her! She is just learning to use her new Nikon D40 and doing awesome work!

erin - happy birthday! my best gift ever was finding out that we are pregnant! after a long road to get there, this was such a blessing.

Dianne - Wow I’d love to have one of my kids blown up huge for my living room!

Tricia - Hi there. Love the new header, btw. Very fun!
Best birthday gift: Hhmmmmm….. My husband made me Twilight card for my 30th this year. Simple, completely dorky, but so cute!
XO*Tricia

Christy - Love your pic! looks awesome on canvas.
I have a close up of my daughters sweet lil hands holding a four leaf clover that would be great on canvas.
I’d have to say my best birthday present ever was a homemade shelf with a window pane as a door on the front. A gift from my brother. It pleases me everytime I look at it. Besides being beautiful I think about all of the time & hardwork he put into it.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Karrie - What an AWESOME give away!!!
I would love to be entered to win it please!!!
The worst birthday present I ever received was a gourd bird house, painted to look like a killer whale. ?????
What does one do with something like that???

Aby - The best birthday present I ever got was 8 years ago when after 7 years of trying to get pregnant and 6 weeks of shots for IVF, I found out that I was pregnant. With twins!!!

Shelly DeBoer - HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG! Hope your day is full to the brim with everything you love! I Adore the big canvas print… my fingers are crossed! My best birthday present, hmmm… I don’t recall what my hubby actually purchased but he made his own giftwrap on the computer and made a custom bow and then left clues all through the house and I had to do a scavenger hunt of sorts to find the gift. It was so fun and I felt really loved that he put so much time into the day

Em - I wish I had that little nook in my house…

amber - the best b-day gift i ever received was at my 30th birthday party where i had 8 of my best friends over and we ate and drank and danced and everyone brought their own dish. my sis wrote a poem about me that made everyone cry especially me. i was done!!! 🙂

Donna - Happy Birthday!
The best present I ever got was my camera!

Kelly O. - this is awesome! I’m off to check it out now!
Happy Birthday Megan!
The best birthday gift I have ever received?
a kitten. Oh it was a magical gift–until I went off to boarding school and came back to a full grown cat that hated me because I was a stranger in HIS house. He used to attack me in the bathroom when I was going pee (why do cats like bathrooms?) I used to have to fight him off hitting him over the head with the kleenex box! Stupid cat!!
but for those months that I first had him it was a dream come true 😉

Sarah @ Clover Lane - I know just the picture I would use! Thanks for such a great giveaway!

Denise V. - Happy Birthday to you! I had a 09-09-09 birthday this year and that was fun. How about my best give ever? It was on 1-17-01 when my cousin gave me a kidney! Having someone do this makes you feel very loved and special. We are both doing very well.

Susan - Wow-wee! I would love to win that picture. I found your blog by accident – what a happy accident indeed (some say there are no accidents. whatever.)
You inspire with your colours, fonts, words and wishes. I wish you all the best in the coming year. Win or lose, it’s a beautiful game.

Sam - Happy birthday Meg!!!! 🙂

Nicole - Happy Birthday! I would say the best birthday gift I’ve ever received is the 580EX flash my husband bought me for my birthday two years ago, because he knew I was wanting one to shoot my first wedding, but I didn’t want to spend that much money on something for myself. He picked it out all by himself!

Martha - Happy Birthday- Hope you have a great day!!!!!!!!

My sister outdid herself one year when she found a copy of my favourite childhood novel, The Secret Island, by Enid Blyton. I had searched for years, and she tracked one down in the UK! I was so touched.
Have a great day!!!!
xo

Emily - without a doubt my best birthday present was my Nikon D40 which my husband got me last year. I’d mentioned once, very briefly and quietly, that I wanted a DSLR camera before we had kids- and he was listening!!!

pve

cre8ivegirl - today i am going to work…a job i don’t really like but do a good job at it anyway…today i am reading to my daughter…the whole 20 minutes that has been assigned to her by the teacher…not 10 or 15 minutes and calling it good…today i am dreaming of an tropical island…somewhere…anywhere.

Jerri - Today I worked from home in the am and acutally got reorganized and caught up…went out and saw a few patients…had pizza with my hubs…posted on my blog…read a lot of blogs and commented…still need to work in my office…but most of all tried to be Happy and Thankful! PS I love Annie’s style!!!

Dina Marie - I happen to read this blog and thought why not I answer to your question based on what I did today.
I was in Seattle for a couple of appointments this morning.
Went to Exclusive Veterinary Center and bought dry food and salmon/potatoes wet food for my dear cat, Como.
I went to Costco and pick up pills from pharmacy.
I also bought a neat shark, buoyant, boat, and two cars at Costco for my 5 years old son, Nolan to play during his bath time. It’s a surprise for him. : )
I went to Costco gas station to put some more gas for my car.
I checked emails.
I watched a movie called Garfield’s Pet Force with Nolan.
I went to Nolan’s school for curriculum night and had a meeting with Nolan’s teacher.
We went to school meeting with the principal and vice principal.
I am watching The Big Loser TV show.

Sarah Beth - Today I…got up 5 minutes BEFORE my alarm went off due to my children getting the worm (early birds get the worm). We did school, ( I home school our 5 year old son), I went to the ENT specialist and found out I’m gonna have to have snoz surgery, got home and took a 2.2 mile walk/jog w/ my three kids in a double stroller ( it works out very well, they all fit), had a yummy lunch, read to my kids, they napped while I caught up on my blogging/facebooking, talked to my neighbor while chasing my little girly, had an amazing salad for dinner, enjoyed grocery shopping w/ my wonderful hubby and kidd:0)s!
“This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!”

mom - Today I drove to Colorado with my good friend. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful drive.
Happy BDay tomorrow!

Gretchen - Today I:
worked out
worked all day
had lunch with a friend
finished a project
checked on a friend who had surgery last week
shared a glass of wine with my hubby
played with the dog
reveled in the fact that my house was clean, lawn was done, puppy was tired, dinner was ready in the crock pot and the laundry was in the washer when I got home from work
I love Tuesdays
now it’s me time.

DreamGirlLisa - Today I went to work, something I wish I didn’t have to do. Some day I hope to be able to say I am working at home, or in my own business. I hate that I cannot be there to take my daughter to school or pick her up after. I miss the days when I had a snack ready for my girls when they got home. I have to get up every morning to do my hair and put on make-up, I love when I DON’T have to on the weekends. Perspective is interesting, isn’t it?
Keep doing what you’re doing, making us think.

carissa... brown eyed fox - i should have done my hair & makeup too! 🙂
i DID go to the gym… almost flew off the treadmill… i kid you not… scared me to pieces… can you imagine! that would have been a sight!
VERY special day tomorrow! wishing for shear happiness for you! xo

Kim Disberger - When I was teaching school there was a mom who was gorgeous, however, she never did her hair AND makeup on the same day. (FYI, this was before I had kids) I asked her once why that was. It was (duh) b/c she never had time for both. There are many days that happens to me and I think of her a lot! 🙂

kristi rediske - I have watered my mums,( I love fall), rearranged my front porch-have my stray(hay) with pumpkins in the perfect spot, and have enjoyed this great day. Its sunny in Arkansas-a great day that the Lord has given us.

Sandra - I am going to notice the greatness in others, the knit together, ‘made in His image’ amazingness that we all have that goes too easily unnoticed.
And after I’ve noticed it, I’m going to ENJOY this said greatness. No expectations, only anticipation

Ashley - Meg,
Today I have a day full of Dr. appointments but am thrilled to be able to sit here while I wait and read my favorite blogs!
Have a good day Meg, I know your heart is heavy about Cora and you and the Mac’s are in our prayers daily!
Ashley
http://jackspratandhiswife.blogspot.com/

Sarah @ Clover Lane - Sounds like you are in a “get it done” “back to normal” “slow and steady” mood. I need that mood. Send it this way.

Joni Lloyd - i am sitting with kleenex shoved up my nostrils right now trying to fight off this cold or allergies…whatever it is, it stinks. but seriously, i would love for your kids to pick out my outfit one day. i love their free spirited happy color choices and the freedom you give them to let them express themselves. i love it.

Tracy - Wow – hair and makeup ON THE SAME DAY?! You are a BRAVE woman my friend! LOL Seriously, love the post today! Have a wonderful day! Big hugs, Trac~:o)

the wild raspberry - funny…i JUST read philippians 4:13 and it is open here at the computer next to me…
blessing to you on this glorious day~~
chasity

Lora - today, I am working…home for lunch…feeling broken hearted for the ones who don’t know Jesus and His promises……and so thankful that I do!

Lindy - Today I, too, am rested. For once. Hubby’s snoring couldn’t keep me awake (although I cheated a little). Making lists. Hauling trash, cleaning fridge (more trash), bagging recyclables, paying bills, going to post office for stamps, buying birthday cards. Next 3 days are for grandkid watching, comes the weekend and off to see Abby on Monday! I am so glad I am rested!
Have a great day Megan!

Julia - any reason for being emotional? #6?

Rachel - Hi there!
Today I decided to comment on your page as I’ve been reading your blog for a while but never got round to commenting.
I just got home from the first day of my second week on placement as a student occupational therapist in Glasgow (Scotland). I fell asleep on the bus home and it’s freezing here so now I’m in my PJs on the sofa watching Friends (it’s 6.20pm!).
Tonight I am going to watch March of the Penguins and Munich and veg on the sofa.
Hope you have a great day.
Rachel

Sallie - I am uplifted by your colorful photos (as usual)! Thanks for sharing your gifts.

patti - today I’m praying for the best.
today I take my littlest girl (she’s 2) to the eye doctor for an ongoing sty problem and I just hope she doesn’t experience too much pain and I hope I don’t cry.
today the weather finally dropped out of the 100’s! so i’m going to enjoy fall finally being here.
today, i’m going to be patient with my kids.
thanks for reminding me of all the things good i need to focus on today – oh, and the laundry :).

Renee - i love annie’s spirit — the way she dresses is divine.
today: cleaning the bath mats that look like someone may have sat on one w/o wiping their bottom first. good times.
dh is working from home, so i have to try to keep his mind on his work and not on me!
picking up my beautiful son from kindergarten. we’ve moved past the moody blues and into full glorious smiles at pick-up. woo hoo!
your list sounds good, too. lol, xoxo

julie - today i am ditching bible study since a certain spicy three year old decided that today is the worst day in the history of all of the worst days of the world because I did her hair slightly differently than she had envisioned.
the end of her three years of life as she knows it.
who has to worry about war, universal healthcare or the recession when you ponytails are a bit fluffier than usual.
exhausting.
a 45 minute extravaganza of exhaustion.

Heather - I think I will try to do my hair and wear makeup today, too!

Georgia - I have just finished work its 5:19pm. My agenda for this evening is dinner, bath pajamas, and get cozy to watch tv. I have no energy for anything else… lol

Toni :O) - Today, I’m working…crazy busy. Then kids to the doctor for their flu shots, home for dinner and homework with the kids, off to public library and then to Party City to check out Halloween costumes before ordering through a catalog, then make sure I’m home for a phone call with a gal who is interested in becoming a new consultant on my team with Tastefully Simple, then laundry once showers are done…then…hopefully relaxing by 9:30 p.m.!

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - It’s finally cool here today! I bought a huge bunch of mums at the Farmer’s market last weekend. They are BEAUTIFUL right now!!!

traci - your today sounds perfect!!!!!

Laura Phelps - right now, thanking God for the chill in the morning air, reminding me of my real HOME back in NY in autumn
making cakes
remembering to breathe

Trasie - Today I am telling you it’s OK to cry through your bible study if you want too.
Today I am working on the blog for tomorrow. My baby will be nine months old. I have shared her with the world for as long as I carried her. Nine months mean more to me than 1 year. I have held her in my arms for as long as I carried her in my person. They placed her in my arms and she slipped right into my heart.
Today I am wishing that I lived in your neighborhood because seeing that darling little girl of yours in mismatched clothes, rain boots and loving life every day would remind me that, I need to stop waiting for the storm to pass and learn to dance in the rain more often.

AnneYarbs79 - Reading blogs I love.
Enjoying the silence while the baby sleeps.
Drinking a good cup of coffee.
Checking on the laundry and the dishes.
Making sure Super WHY is Tivoed.
Rinse and Repeat. :0)

purejoy - i love your list!! for me:
bringing lunch to a friend recovering from melanoma surgery on the bottom of her foot (how often do you examine the bottom of your foot?? me? not ever!) with my husband. the art of visiting with people is lost in this world, y’know.
catching up with some old-school hand written correspondence
assembling all the information from baccalaureate from last year to give to next year’s committee chairwoman. . . major procrastination going on there
working for the hubster
preparing the rest of my BSF lesson
trying to think about what to serve for dinner tonite
i’m exhausted just thinking about all of this!
but thanks for the reminder to accomplish something today!

Kate - Hi! I am working… then getting the kids at two… off to religous education and choir practice… then (maybe) off to a benefit concert for a sweet girl who needs our prayers… I haven’t decided on the concert yet… my heart is torn…

Natalie Battitori - Working till 4 then off to watch two of my kids play soccer then pick up other kid from volleyball practice. Fix supper. Do at least one load of laundry. Grade one kid’s homework (teacher requests it). It’s a beautiful fall day in Kansas, so really looking forward to watching the soccer game later!
Meg–I’m sure you’ve been told this many times, but you really do do more laundry than anyone else! Is there a Queen of Laundry award out there I could nominate you for? Probably not, huh?! Luv the pics above of your daughter! I hope it makes you smile like it does me.

Nicole - Today . . . . planning my October menu and grocery list! Makes me hungry all day!! Your “hair AND make up in the same day” comment made me laugh! Today is a make up day for me but not hair day!! Have a good day Meg! Hope biblestudy is uplifting and encouraging!!

Jill - Still in my p.j.’s and your post just motivated me to get up and get going. Thanks!!! 🙂 ~Jill

Staci - I AM going to work out!!! Yes I am….just started back yesterday….and wow! Sore today! It’s a baseball cap and no make up day for me though 🙂 And of course a little laundry…and clean out the fish bowl!!! Sounds like an easy day….oh but I can’t wait to see how all the things that crop up out of the blue that will hinder me from getting it done 🙁 LIKE BLOG READING 🙂

amber - hi girl! i hear ya. i fixed my hair and put on makeup today too!! it really does make me fee better. today i am homeschooling my girl, goin to the bank, taking a walk to the downtown library in this beautiful fall weather, then walking to the park to fly kites with my sassy. and tonights menu: steak-ums, fresh green beans, and homemade cake!!! 🙂

Jo - Working until 5! Payroll, trying to start my Mary Kay business 🙂 I feel blessed today!! Did some laundry yesterday, will finish today. There is only two of us in the household and I feel like I never get done….??????

gabrielle - don’t cry you have a lovely home and a lovely family and so much that I admire in a mother, wish I was you sometimes. Really I do.
but today I’m not working so I’ll try and get my giveaway post up and do some more crafty stuff and start decorating for fall because it seems like it a bit more this week than last. I love your waffle too…i want to give him a kiss.

Nancy-The Goat and The Kid - I think I may actually get out of the house. Back to school sickness has ravaged my house. No fun! But amazingly, I feel peaceful amidst the chaos. I think some baking is in order today, too. What to make???

Jess - laundry as well, shopping, not the fun kind…groceries.
trying to take in every day slowly, just one day at a time.

IMG_3706
as always with elisalou you get to choose your own fabric to make it just right for YOUR dog.
i chose the red and white polka dots…it was a no brainer.
i put it on him and thought he was adorable.
craig and lauren both said seperately "why did you get him a girl collar?"
huh?
i do not agree.
it's a boy collar.
yes…it IS.

IMG_3709

IMG_3722

talby drew this on the kitchen chalkboard yesterday….

Ensuefsen - Hello, http://facepaintinghelp.com/ – buy escitalopram online Buy cheap Lexapro (Escitalopram) without a prescription.

SaltSeasteLem - Hello, Xanax was the first medication that was approved by the FDA for the treatment of panic attacks. http://www.realtybyelizabeth.com/ – buy xanax

order viagra - Girly girl, alternatively spelled girlie girl, is a slang term for a girl or woman who chooses to dress and behave in a traditionally feminine style, such as wearing floral dresses, blouses and skirts, and talking about relationships and other activities which are associated with the traditional gender role of a girl.

Kimberlie Rose - Thanks Megan! I just ordered one of these for my Cooper and can’t wait to see it on him. Love your blog by the way.

Kat - Waffle’s new collar rocks! He is secure enough that he could wear any color collar and still rock it! Too cute. Love fabric collars on dogs, my Boxer, Fergus, wears an Amy Butler Lotus collar.

julie - at first I was agreeing… it is a bit girly. my black dog has a manly solid black collar. but then I realized. waffle is super trendy and metrosexual. rocking it. l.a. style. makes my dog look all funeral-y.

Mrs. - Looks like Talby’s Waffle needs some dinner! He is incredibly thin!

Amy - I enjoy looking at your pics of Waffle, because he is almost identical to our doodle, Max. I loved your recent post about how your cat hates the dog. We adopted Max 8 months ago on his first birthday. The cat has hated him since day one, and I’m certain she curses us daily for bringing this beast into our home. 🙂 Meanwhile, Max thinks she’s the cat’s meow (bad, bad humor) and wants to play with her every chance he gets. Quite frankly, I think she would be bored to tears without him to antagonize. Doodles are fabulous dogs!

Kirsten Tangeros - Thanks for the tip. I plan on ordering 2 for my dogs…. I think Waffle looks very dapper in his collar. He kindof reminds me of Harpo at “Antique and Resale” on Harlem Ave. in Chicago. Ever been there? Giant white poodle prowls the store, wearing vintage ties….. Waffle has the same vibe.

Kwana - What a sweetie in such a cute collar. Love the pics!

Penny - Waffle, Waffle, Waffle. I just love Waffle.Yes, he should write a book. You could do a children’s book and I am sure it would sell big! Our Sophie, also a Goldendoodle, is beginnig to look like Waffle in the face and I am so happy. She is a scruffy cinnamon bunch of love. Gotta love those doodles!!

Meredith - I’ve been hankering for an elisa lou tote bag for ages (big hints to the hubby have so far gone unanswered) so I’m a wee bit perturbed that your dog is more stylish than me. But truly, who could begrudge Waffle the wonderdog anything! The red polka-dot collar is definitely boy – groovy, retro boy – but boy nonetheless. Meredith xo.

Diana - Huh? Where did they get the *girl* idea in that? Hmmm. Red is such a snazzy color. And polka dots… well, they just make the red that much more cool! You go, Waffle! *woof*
Great likeness of Waffle, Talby! You captured his cuteness and personality perfectly!

Jerri - I have said it before I just love Waffle…he is too cute!!! I think he knows it too! 🙂
Cute collars!

HomageBlog - Boys can TOTALLY wear polka dots! He rocks it 🙂 ~K

Christy - Love it! One of my boy dogs (have 2 yellow labs) is wearing a zebra print collar which also might be a little feminie, but he looks so cute!
I like the polka dor collar & the Halloween one is too cute! Off to check out the shop. 🙂

Sue K. - waffle is soo cute! he looks just like koda did. i miss koda…love the collar and maybe talby thinks you should feed waffle more! 🙂

Tanya - Sooooo cute. I had a scruffy little visitor at the pool today. He was about half the size of waffle.

CherryTreeLane - I want to hug him and just run around in my backyard playing fetch with this cutie! So sweet!

Betsy - Super cute! I’m amazed at how much my schnoodle (poodle/schnauzer), Minnie, looks like Waffle in the face. Don’t feel bad about picking the red, which I think is totally a boy collar. I have a pink collar, pink leash, pink tags and pretty much all pink things for Minnie and people still ask what HIS name is! Arg!

purejoy - thanks for the tip on the collars. i have three mini-dachshunds that all need a bit of snazzzz and so we can tell them apart!! haha.
waffle is adorableness on steroids. that dog is photo-personality!!! love him!! (and his fly collar)

Nancy-The Goat and The Kid - Red and white polka dots are not girly. I would put Rex and Charlie (our wonder dogs) in one for sure. You have to have dogs with sass, right? Everything can make a statement, even a dog collar. Way to go!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I’m off to check her out. Waffle is super adorable and I love his polka dots:)

Ashley - I love it! Waffle is such a photogenic dog 🙂
I went to elisalou’s site to order one for my dog, but I’ve made it all the way to the Payment Info., and it hasn’t said anything about the free Halloween collar. Is there a special promo code for that?

Elisa - I personally think he looks very handsome in his polka-dot collar!
Love him!

Kacey - Love the collar! Now I’m wondering if my dog needs one… 🙂

amy d - talby’s picture is cracking me up. i didn’t know (elisa lou) did collars…i must now get one for miss miley. and miley wants to know when waffle is coming over to play.
maybe this weekend?

Ruth - too cute – he always looks like such a smooth mover with the short hair! super fly, and he knows it.

Angie - WAFFLE!! I love posts that feature Waffle! Man, I heart that dog.

Rachel / cREaTe - he really truly is the cutest, most scruffalicious dog. and just the name. i wish he’d write a book – i’m sure he is full of stories. 🙂 LOVE his new collar. since when was red white & blue GIRLY? he’s just patriotic.

Pineapple Princess - So SUPER DUPER cute!!

Shar - NO, he could not be any cuter. I have a brown standard poodle and also a blond standard (rescued after hurrican Ike). But, I am loving the Goldendoodle. I just love it when Waffle gets a mention in the blogs. Will check out the collars.

missye - He is adorable! And I don’t think the collar is girly. Very non-gender specific. LOL!!!
We have a 5 month old brown Standard Poodle who is a mess but such a love. I just love your Waffle stories because I can sooo relate.

Georgia - LOL love the picture !! Talby has made him so skinny! 🙂
Love the Collar, im going to check the collars out as my 2 dogs need new ones which are a bit Snazzy! Loving the pictures as normal your fAB! 🙂

Sarah - Too cute!! I would say that the collar is gender neutral, so I’m kind of on your side, but can see what they are saying about a hint of feminine in the collar. I personally love Waffle with his super fluffy long hair, but totally understand why you would want to keep it shorter. Do you let it grow out between cuts or do you have a length you won’t let it grow past?

cora’s playground dedication

IMG_2898

the music and message were beautiful.
the 341 balloons…marking one for each day Cora was here with joel & jess…were so pretty it hurt.
literally.
they just kept going farther and farther away….
and i thought again "i just can't believe this happened."
i still feel complete disbelief when i think of all jess and joel have gone through this year.

IMG_2914
through the tears…
there was worship and fellowship.
there were smiles and hugs…cupcakes and popsicles…many children playing on Cora's Playground.

it's not the way we would've chosen but trusting in Christ…
knowing fully that He is good and unchanging.
He will restore.
He will bring peace and healing.

continue to pray for the Macs.

Jennifer - I’m so sorry…and praying for them.

Diana aka "knzus" - ♥ Amen! ♥

Christina - That is a beautiful picture of them…you captured a powerful moment there.

Ruth - thank you for sharing these pictures. the love and faith of you guys over there is such an inspiration…

Renee - I often think of Cora and her beautiful little face. It’s a reminder of how blessed we are. I’m praying for happier days ahead for Joel and Jess.
OT: Meg, I may have posted something about you today. LOL If you’re offended, let me know. xoxo

Sarah - Thanks for sharing this with us. It’s still so fresh in my mind when I heard about Cora’s story. My heart is still aching for The Macs, but I hope the playground dedication helped heal their hearts just a little more, if that is even possible after such a loss.

Laura Phelps - the prayers have never stopped…

purejoy - how is it that i’ve seen several pictures from the dedication and still it brings tears to my eyes to see those balloons. such a beautiful picture. and i’m certain that cora was smiling.
continuing to pray and so thankful that you were able to be there. what a treasure this blog-world is!

Staci - My heart still breaks for them….but God is triumphant through it all….still, just makes me so sad for them 🙁 They are so blessed to have a friend in you to capture this day for them. God Bless!

angela - How blessed they are that you captured this day for them. The blessing of a friendship is priceless. I cannot imagine their pain, but I know it must be made a little easier with the surrounding of friends.

Angela - Beautiful, and oh, so sad.

Joanna @ The Casa - Sometimes it’s just so hard to trust that God has a plan.

pve - Somehow, all those balloons made me feel better.
For me it is all about the triple F, Faith, Family and Friends.
pve

Jerri - Thanks for sharing! They are truly an awesome witness!

Lindsey - I can’t even imagine. I have an 8 month old son. They are an amazing family and what good that sweet girl did in her short life.

Liz M - This breaks my heart. I wish I could absorb some of the pain, somehow cushion the blow.
From experience, time takes away the rawness.
I have come to know all of you through the blogs– far away yet close in prayer in thought.

Anna Marie - I can’t imagine going through something so heartbreaking. I think of them often. My prayers are with them. Thank you for sharing this. God bless you!
~Anna Marie

Rachel - Amen!

in the kitchen

do you love it or hate it when there are lots of people in your kitchen?

i love it.

especially when everyone is cooking alongside me.

we invited jess, her mom kathy and her sister ann over for dinner after the craft fair
to get to know heather, sarah and julie a bit better.

it was an all girls' night!
craig had taken the boys to a football game so the house was full of girls.
lauren took all of these pictures.

IMG_2539

we made chicken enchiladas…using the laptop as a cookbook…how very 2009.
IMG_2579

sarah was appointed queen of the cream puff squares.
IMG_2595

IMG_2601

IMG_2707
together we made a YUM-O dinner.  mmmmmmm!
and dessert.

IMG_2714
fyi….we did not use syrup for our enchiladas.
while we were cooking annie heated up some left over pancakes and ate that…and had some juice.
and we're fancy…no placemats…paper napkins….the cleaning chore chart still on the chalkboard!
i can't get it all done…thank goodness.  now you know for sure that i am normal…i think.

IMG_2723
waffle is always in the middle of a party.

kathy brought some Cora dresses for the etsy girls…they each have little girls at home.

IMG_2640
don't you want every one of them?!
i know there are 100's of people waiting for their shop to reopen….patience ladies….patience.

IMG_2639

IMG_2673

IMG_2662
even annie got to choose one….she loved that.

IMG_2652
hope.
promise.
healing.
all in one picture.

it was so nice for all of us to get time to talk in real life….not just email.
that was one room FULL of creativity!
we discussed sewing machines and homes and fabrics and blogs and all kinds of goodness…even martha!

the whole weekend was a bittersweet blessing.
God had it all planned out.
He knew from the beginning how big these women's hearts are.
how much love there is to give.
there is nothing we can say to make jess feel better or her arms not feel so empty.
but we can support her and show her His love the way Christ calls us to do.

i read this translation of Philippians 4:13 from Kenneth Wuest in our bible study…
"i am strong for all things in the One who constantly infuses strength in me."
i liked the idea of Christ infusing us with strength.
constantly.

Viktor - Posted on You know, I had a similar preolbm in reverse. I have two boys and the eldest (age 5) is fascinated with cooking, so me and his Mom wanted to get him an Easy Bake Oven for his birthday last February. However, they only came in pink. We knew he wouldn’t care and I really didn’t think it was a preolbm, but it still gave me pause. We ended up not getting him one for another reason (all of the mixes are made in factories that have peanut exposures and he’s allergic), but it still kinda bugged me that cooking was considered a girls-only activity.

Meredith Salmon - Made the chicken last night and we loved it. Thanks

Renee - Made your enchiladas for Sunday dinner. OMG, so good. I couldn’t stop eating (thankfully they’re relatively healthy)! Thanks for sharing. xoxo

Jennifer Wood - Meg, I have been reading and learning from your blog for about a full year now! I love your house your craft and your sense of humor! Now I know who you remind me of, has anybody ever told you you look just like Carly Simon? Well, You do!
Jen;)

elizabeth holder - Hey Happy Birthday
I don’t know if it is today or yesterday, but I remember you blogging last year, and realized mine was the day after yours and I sent you a birthday email then. Hope your weekend is wonderful.
I would love to be part of something like your dinner someday, I think it would be awesome.
i am a bit jealous {in a good way 😉

Tiffany Morris - Can’t wait to make your enchilada’s! They sound so YUMMY! Love the picture of Jess, her belly and the dresses. So encouraging for her. She seems to be so strong.
Hugs – Tiffany

Angela - Oh, wow. That last picture totally made me cry. Hope, healing. Wow.
And I really want some chicken enchiladas now. Without syrup. 😉

DreamGirlLisa - What a great post, looks like a blast. I checked out Cora’s playground link you posted, what a sad and heartwarming story. I can’t even imagine what they have gone through. Lucky she has you for support and good times 🙂
P.S. I could handle everyone one in my kitchen if mine was as big as yours! 🙂

christine - how amazing! seriously, that picture of jess’s belly in the foreground and the cora dresses in the background brought tears to my eyes. so much is conveyed in that perfect shot. you have an amazing way of capturing the moment and saying so much in an image.
on our way back home from garage sale-ing this morning, we were behind a car from kansas. made me think of you gals 🙂 we would’ve loved to have been there for the dedication, and my daughter (who helped make & sell things for the playground) was disappointed that we could not. your pictures really took us there, though. so, thank you.
may God richly bless you and your sweet family. thank you for inviting us into your home & lives.

the wild raspberry - beautiful words.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I never get tired of your posts. I just love having a peek into your life. What a fun evening…dinner with friends. That’s why we invest in them, so when hard times and good times come we can hold each other high. Thanks so much for sharing.

pve - I love your honesty and your cooking looks good too.
Can hardly wait to see what you do in 2010.

Starnes Fam - So many wonderful things to round out your successful weekend. Happy for you guys. And, I love how Waffle always wants in on the fun.

julie - I LOVE YOUR ENCHILADAS!!!!!!!

Diana aka "knzus" - My kitchen isn’t very large, maybe 8×10 of actual moving-around-in-space, but we live with it and make it work. When family come, about half of us will be in the kitchen yacking, never mind that most have to stand. I don’t mind people in my kitchen… unless I’ve been sick and can’t get the dishes done or something. Unfortunately, my kitchen is the next room to walk through from the livingroom. Never have liked that, but oh well. So happy to see Jess healthy and with you guys… she and her family in a lot of prayers! What wonderful time spent all you gals have had. What a blessing it is to me that you share your life online like this. You are such a godly woman and it shows in all you say and do.
P. S. LOVE Waffle… so ADORABLE.

jeanne - What a wonderful night with creative, loving women. I need the Lord’s strength daily. Wonderful post.

Debra Cripps - Wow it looks like such a great time!

Jerri - Meg, this is an awesome post…I gave you an Honest Scrap Award so if you have time, link to my blog and participate. I think your girls night looks awesome! I find myself singing the lyrics…I can do all things, who Christ who gives me strength…but sometimes I wonder what he can do through me??
PS I have said this before but I LOVE Waffle…keep saying when our doggie goes to heaven that I am done but then I see your Waffle and I don’t know…

Michelle - So happy to see the pic of Jess’s growing belly. She’s still in so many prayers.

Erin - I’m OK with most people in my kitchen…..except the MIL. When we moved into our new place she came over and rearranged my kitchen, insisting I had everything in the wrong drawers and cabinets.
NOT COOL!

Rach - I TOTALLY do the whole laptop on the kitchen counter cook book thing. I am going to kick myself the say I spill something on it too! 🙂

pam - Wow, Meg. What a memorable weekend. You have such a wonderfully big and warm heart that makes your home so welcoming.
Awesome pictures, Lauren!!

Darby - Meg, What an awesome post. I haven’t commented lately but I’m still reading every post! As I read I kept thinking, “man I wish I could have been there!” What an awesome group of women, what a wondeful night… Lauren really captured it and what a wonderful retelling of it!!

Stephanie Carroll - I don’t like people in the kitchen, but mostly because we are in our first apartment and even when my husband is in there with me, I feel like I can’t breathe.
So, here’s to praying we’re blessed enough for our first home to have a big ole kitchen to hold all of my friends and family! I would love that.

Laura Phelps - as soon as I recognized Jess’ face in the pictures, the tears began rolling.
that is one BEAUTIFUL, FAITH FILLED, LOVING, SUPPORTIVE, BLESSED, MIRACULOUS, CREATIVE, LIFE GIVING Kitchen!!!!!!!!!
even with the syrup….
I am filled with such love and hope right now after having been “invited” into your kitchen…

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Seems like a most beautiful weekend!
Lauren took great pictures!

Meaghan - What a beautiful post. I loved that visual of Christ “infusing” us with strength. I should memorize that verse.
I discovered your blog a little while ago, and have been hooked ever since, but I have never commented. I want to let you know how much I love all of your creative ideas. I’m a stay-at-home mom (my youngest is an Annie, too!), former art and third grade teacher. I also live in an old house we’re working on, and love to sew, make art, and cook. I’ve tried two of your recipes and both have been hits (stuffed shells and chicken with biscuits). Now I want to try the enchiladas..yum.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing so much and for being such a “normal” 😉 mom/wife/person who brightens my days and gets my creative juices flowing! You crack me up and sometimes make me tear up. Great combo!
~Meaghan

melissa - i forgot to say that lauren is VERY talented!! just like her momma!

melissa - If I had a kitchen like yours I would love to have all my girlfriends helping me cook dinner! But, the military only gives ya so much room….even with 4 kiddos! :o)
As many have said, I would love to be in Newton. You girls seem like so much fun. It obvious you have a genuine love for Christ and others. I just might come visit Beki one day…and then we can all get together. (does that seem stalkerish??? I promise I’m no stalker! LOL)
Melissa

juliann brenner - really lovely post…. And Lauren is very talented.
Juliann

Kate - Thank you so much for the beautiful updates about Jess. It’s amazing how you feel like you know someone when you are sisters in Christ.

merlin - The picture of Jess’s baby-belly made me cry. I would add “courage” to your list. Such courage. Thank you for sharing such an emotional photo, it truly says everything that can be said.

Shirley Wood - I want to live in Newton, KS! You all seem to be such awesome people. I read your blogs with tears and a lump in my throat. There is a reason the Macs live there. You surround them with love and comfort food.
Could you blog about your sewing machines? I am shopping for a new one and need some ideas.

Shirley Wood - I want to live in Newton, KS! What awesome people you all seem to be. I read your blogs with tears and a lump in my throat. There is a reason the Macs live there….all of you who surround them with love and comfort food!
Also, could you blog one day about your sewing machines? I am shopping for a new one and need some guidance.

your cool friend Cheryl - My laptop is my cookbook most of the time, too! How glamourous I must be!
Glad you had fun 🙂

Maria in CT - My favorite verse from the Bible…Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. I like your version with Christ “infusing” strength! What a beautiful visualization.

Kristine Robb - wow – lauren’s photography is impressive! great job!
yes, LOVE the dresses. must have one! (or more!)
i like this too: the idea of Christ infusing us with strength. thank you for sharing the visual.
glad you had such great fellowship!

Christina - So heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. It’s so wonderful to see that there is such a strong community of people there who can show her that love, and share it with one another as well.

sarah w - Lauren took some awesome pictures this past weekend!
“Bittersweet Blessing” … truly the only way to describe this weekend.
I loved cooking and eating with everyone (even if I was a bit timid about those creampuffs)
I hope that in the future I’m able to gather amazing women in my kitchen to cook, laugh, love on each other, and eat yummy food.

Emily@remodelingthislife - i think these are your most beautiful photos ever – for just their beauty and for the story they tell

Jess - it’s so great the way God worked it all out. it’s amazing how he puts just the right people in our paths.

Secret Mom Thoughts - Looks like a great time.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I LOVE having my kitchen filled to the brim! Those enchi’s look yum. And I’ve been thinking so much about Cora and her Mama and Daddy lately. My Sister in Law’s best friend just suddenly lost her 6 month old this week to a brain tumor. It all happened w/in a week and it’s just devastating. And yet, we know, God is sovereign. It gets so confusing. I love the thought of God infusing them with strength even today,as they bury their precious Annie.

Dina - what a beautiful post – sounds like an amazing time for all of you.
p.s. I adore having a kitchen full of people helping cook!!

Summer - Beautiful! That verse truely touched me, thank you!

adrienneK - lauren took really good pictures!! those dresses are adorable!

Katie - how awesome that you guys actually got to meet in person!!! Looks like you had a great time!!!

Sandy - Looks like a wonderful time.
I LOVE the picture Lauren took through the window…you’ve trained her well or she’s a self taught natural one of the two.
Thanks for sharing.

mansi - It seems , i missed the party..haha..
I truly look forward for your blogs as they are full of life, joy, colors & excitement.
Nice blog..n..plz keep blogging daily as I miss your blog.

entertainment

i had the best entertainment for 3 women coming to visit…

shopping!

we spent the night at carolyn's (my happy place) so we could get shopping much quicker in the morning.

it was a gorgeous morning….

i have been looking for THIS since i moved to kansas.
i didn't think it was here.

i felt like i was on a junk buying high.

buzzed on rust and chippy paint.  :)

here is my take away from a day of craft fair bliss.

yummy.

kristen - Just curious where is that barn and is it open year around.

Amy R. - Your weekend looked like so much fun! That barn sale was to die for! Wish I lived closer. That metal turquoise stool is awesome. Would love to see what you do with it. I enjoy your blog!
Amy

kate b - I also would have cried walking into that barn. AMAZING. I would have died taking pictures there. What a treat! And those Kansas morning shots are amazing!

Kristine Robb - i need me some rusty chairs!

Jen H. - I’m loving that green toolbox. That sale would be my idea of heaven too. I have a favourite antiques barn near me that is like that all the time. I only allow myself to visit it about twice a year!
That antler chair is one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen.

Rachel / cREaTe - WOW! unbelievable stuff! i’m in KC … i’ll have to look up hillsboro. 🙂 i LOVE your finds. those dishes are BEAUTIFUL [the ivory ones] and that wood divider thing ROCKS & i would love to know how you’re going to use it. unfortunately, i almost lost my lunch … my page was stuck loading on the hide & antler photo … *urp* … that kind of stuff doesn’t usually bother me that much, but i guess staring at it for so long, i started to really take it all in. i had to look away. and well … now i might have become a vegetarian. 🙂

Dina - Can I just come and hang with you??? I live in Wichita and feel like I could just stalk you….I’m so joking…that’s kind of creepy..:-)…but I do love your style and also live in an old house.
LOVE every picture you post. I’m so sad I didn’t go to Hillsboro last weekend and soooo jealous of all your finds:-)

Christina - Meg, I love how you are able to see beauty in the not-so-obvious places. That is such a gift. It reminds me of how God looks at us. You are able to look at something that others might see as useless or worthless and find purpose and value.
Your treasures are wonderful and you are a treasure. I’m so glad I can learn from you.

Lisa - How can it be that I live an hour from Hillsboro and have never heard of this sale?! I’m kicking myself. Next year…
I would love to know about the barn too. Great stuff!

Tiffany Morris - Seriously… I think my imagination is stuck in your body! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your style. I wish you could help me with my house. I know what I want, but can’t DO IT for some reason! 🙂
Hugs – Tiffany

Mandi - Okay…I am officially jealous of Kansas!
And, about the crock pot quesadillas…they were as amazing (and easy) as they sound. I made them for my sister and her friend tonight and it was a huge hit. I see these again in my near future!

Annette - Hello, it is Annette I have to know if the barn sale was just a one time thing or is it something that is open to the public? It looks like to much fun

Sara Cameli - OOOOh Meg, loved these. That barn would make an awesome art studio…and I LOVE your picture of the chairs lined up with the beautiful background of farmland – the yellow, green and blue…and the morning shots of hay and mist…so lovely.

Tammy - Wow, I would have loved to tag along too! You really picked up some great treasures!

Vanessa {Bloom Right Here!} - And so many people think Kansas has nothing to offer! My heart started beating a little bit faster when I saw your photos. I used to live in Emporia and would drive over for the craft show. Such fun! But that barn sale?! Wow! I’ve never seen one quite like that. Thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures with us.

Shannon - I HAVE to visit those barns! Where are they exactly?

Debra Cripps - Ooh lovely things, lucky, lucky girls!!

Ashley - Pure Heaven!
I need the barn and all it’s contents!
So glad you had a wonderful time!

Adrienne Anderson - Wow!! My heart just dropped when I saw the pics of the barn sale. Is it still going on?? I’ll come down from Chicago this weekend!!

Courtney - Oh my GOSH that place rules!!!

Leigh Ann - Ohhh MYYYY!!!! Whay can’t I find a barn sale like that!

Amanda - Wow! I’m from Kansas and now live in Colorado. It’s funny how the things you’ve been searching for are always hiding in plan sight. I so love your blog! You bring a fresh and beautiful perspective to a world that is often times gloomy and somber.
Thank for sharing your life and heart with all of us!

Jodi - Hey Meg –
Can you tell me where the barn is? Is the sale only once a year?

Jenny Wenzel - Meg…it’s Jenny from the garage sale. Can you tell me where those barns are…I NEED to go!!! Or at least the contact info? THANKS – Jenny Wenzel

Jess - You would have to drag me kicking and screaming outta there! The barns look like giant treasure boxes for grown-ups. And how cute is baby Janey?
The blue chair you scored….I remember having a red one at my grandparents house. I would love to find one of those.

Kacey - Oh, what fun! All the color – that must have been incredible. Great finds!

Laura Phelps - I will be honest. I am in a grumpy mood this morning. And the pictures are making ME cry. I saw THREE things that I have been searching for. I am feeling jealous and bitter.

Staci - HOW fun!!!!!!! I’m with Misty…..I only live ONE state away from you in OK….why don’t we have great Barn Places like that??? I guess….we get football 🙂 hee heee (Although…your Jayhawks are gonna give us a run for our money this year!!!! YIKES!)

jennifer - LOVIN’ all the color!

Schrag - Where in the world are those barns?!?! I live close to Hillsboro and could totally find them. Need details – please! 🙂

Tracy - I wondered if that wood piece was yours at Molly’s…I saw it and wanted it, but then it said Megan on it…rats. Where was the barn sale….I want some of those old chairs to put on our deck. Looks like you had a fabulous weekend….what fun!!!

Summer - Loved looking at these pictures….I have to bring myself down out of the clouds now. Thanks for sharing!

Alicia - How do you do it???!! Your pictures always amaze me Meg! I love the shot with the chairs in a row and a beautiful field of KS sunflowers in the background…perfect KS! CO is very nice but I do miss KS sometimes! Happy Day!

Jaime @ Simply Arizona - Lovely!!! Yeah, I’ve been looking for a place like that here in Arizona… After seeing your pictures, makes me want to look harder!! 🙂

Jaime @ Simply Arizona - Lovely!!! Yeah, I’ve been looking for a place like that here in Arizona… After seeing your pictures, makes me want to look harder!! 🙂

cally - Oh my heavens. Where is that barn. I’m in the car.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I think I could cry too! What an amazing place you found there…so jealous. Beautiful eye candy Meg. Thanks for the gorgeous pics.

kasey - I’m so sorry my invite was lost in the mail! I would have had a blast with you guys.
xo

coffeeanddaisies - my heart stopped beating briefly when i saw your pictures….
oh my goodness….
so MUCH goodness…
nice to read that someone else appreciates that historic value of things….
they all have a story don’t they?
i’ve gotta get my butt down to kansas!! 🙂
great pictures. thanks.

Sharla - Great stuff. I wasn’t feeling bad about missing the craft fair this year until I saw your pictures. And like others, tell us more about this barn sale. All the time or was this a one-day thing?! Love those rocks/gems!

kristi rediske - Your pictures are great-I went to the Hillsboro Craft show too-drove to Kansas to take my mom to that and the fair. I wish I would have known about that barn-where is it? Sure would like to go to that next time I am in Newton.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I’ve nearly cried before, too. No one else seems to understand it. LOVE your finds. I would have been drawn to all the same exact stuff, except for the pink polka dotted tub thingy. (sorry)
By the way, did you ever find your chicken feeder/coop thing you were looking for last Summer? I still think of you when I see one out at a flea.

valerie - You got some gorgeous pictures of what looks like a beautiful morning!
And I agree with Julie. I think I need that angry bear. Even if it’s just to hide it in cabinets and scare my husband. 🙂

traci - yep, i think you died and went to junk heaven. that barn is awesome. i would get lost for days in there. great treasures. love the clock!!!

Sue K. - having flashbacks of kane county with you…those were good times!!! i miss them and you :(. looks like you had the BEST time. i especially love the old aluminum chairs…those COLORS…

chris - Love it all what fun , I linked to you today in my post .
Chris
Just beachy

Trasie - OH MY GOSH……Tell me more about this barn sale? Is this place open all of the time or was it just a weekend thing? I so want to go there!!!!! Tell me more!
