feeling…..???

like there is so much to do and no time.  :)

we started thanksgiving on sunday at craig's mom's.
yummy stuff.

also at thanksgiving we take part in Operation Christmas Child.
we fill a shoebox with gifts for needy children and then the boxes are sent all of the world to children
who would not receive any gifts at all.
our family has been doing it 8 years now.
the kids love to help with it.
this year i had them watch a video about it so they could put some faces to their project.

IMG_9374

but this year i did the shopping alone while they were in school.
taking all of them to shop for four different boxes just was too crazy to do again.
i went with an art theme.
i trust God that HE will pick the exact children somewhere in the world that have a passion to create
and they will get our special boxes.
we filled them with markers, crayons, paint, paper, pipe cleaners, colored pencils, glue, and glitter.
we filled two for boys so they got matchbox cars.
and two for girls and they got a baby doll.
then i had the kids make a card for their box and we included a family photo.

it's fun to do together…the kids take real pride in making their box special.
check it out here.  it's not too late!

IMG_9444

i spent yesterday morning at school with talby helping them make a feast.
i don't know how teachers do it.
i was completely overstimulated when i left.
i'm like the grinch "oh the noise noise NOISE noise!"

IMG_9470
IMG_9472
IMG_9476
it surprised me that kids were actually eating this stew.
if i had made this for talby at home….she would have cried and refused to even try it.
but there…she ate it!
she admitted it wasn't very good but she still ate it.
funny kids.

we sat with these two goofballs…they were very entertaining.

IMG_9485  IMG_9487

i let them hold my camera to take some pictures!
IMG_9478
IMG_9495

and now…back to my junk.
i took the kids for donuts…put away a bunch of laundry..changed my sheets…cleaned the kids' disgusting bathroom
(it was beyond gross)…christmas shopped online…unpacked my suitcase from SB.

now i need a big cup of hot coffee and it's back to my pictures.

to my families from yesterday: i am behind already.
i blame a migraine and a feast with the second grade.

ps:  annie is screaming in her room like a complete maniac about losing a barbie blanket.
could be a long day.

Brenda England - I had been doing shoeboxes with my son from the very beginning then had the opportunity to sit on the local promotion committee and go into the community to talk about Operation Christmas Child. I then went with a group to deliver them in Mexico. What a life changing event to see the children’s faces of anticipation (even after waiting in the heat sitting on the side of a rocky hill for an hour) and the squeals of delight as they opened the little boxes. Not only did we deliver the boxes, we also had a doctor, dentist and nurse with us to do a medical clinic. I taught people how to brush their teeth, gave them a toothbrush and toothpaste. We also hooked up water filteration systems. This program effects the whole community not just the children. Keep giving through the gifts in a shoebox. Your use of the plastic container is good as this can be used for food storage or as a water container. Tissue paper or wrapping paper can cover a drafty spot on a wall or add colour to a plain wall. Be creative and add fun.
Brenda from Canada

Marla - OH! Some sweet familiar faces here! Clara has really been “Kansas sick” especially coming down from the holiday spent at grandma and grandpa’s house. Will you be around during the Christmas holiday? We will be in Ks and Clara would LOVE to see Talby!

diane reeves - This was our first year to fill a shoebox. I don’t think my daughters understood exactly what we were doing until I showed them the videos.
It is so cool that you can track the package to find out what country they were sent too.

Holly M - I LOVED the mashed potato shot! Made me smile šŸ™‚ You’re always so creative with your camera work and so fun to read! Thanks for being so honest and for making us laugh!

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - we love OCC too šŸ™‚ love the art theme!!

christi - daniel and i do these too! i just sent mine off.

pve - wow!

Candace - (Longest Comment in History)
Thank you for the link to Samaritan’s Purse. We watched the Matthew West/Amy Grant “Give Christmas AwaY” video at church last week and those boxes have been on my mind ever since. And to think you are praying that your boxes bless the children they are going to in so many more ways than just a Christmas present! Those art supplies could change a kids’ life. Head and heart and soul all in a shoebox.
Question: How do you get your boxes to one of the drop off locations? We want to participate, but do not live anywhere close to those locations.
As a teacher, you just kind of get used to the noise or drown it out. Probably like you are able to drown out Barbie blanket “noise”. Or you just turn off the lights in the classroom and magically they stop to ward off a visit from Viola Swamp!
I wouldn’t have eaten that stew either. Or the jello. Cornbread and brownies for this pilgrim. šŸ™‚
Have a wonderful weekend!

Georgia - Meg that video really got me choked. My work did something similar last year which was good. I love the idea of giving the children with nothing, something amazing! We dont celebrate thanks giving here in the UK, so just waiting for christmas which is reeeeaaallly exciting!! Love your photos as always!!!

Heather - Thankful for your blog…always puts a smile on my face. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
~Heather

TidyMom - ok, I had to laugh Meg, what does your family think when you fill your plate at the Thanksgiving Table and then you say “Wait! I need a picture of my plate!” LOL!! I do it infront of my immediate family, but I don’t think my extended family would understand! LOL sure looks yummy!!
Sounds like you had a wonderful, full day!
Happy Thanksgiving!
~TidyMom

Lisa - Wow! that’s a lot for one lady to do. You must be supermom. Where do you hide your cape? I love the “Operation Christmas Child” I think it is a wonderful tradition and it gives the kids a chance to give back. I will definitely be keeping this link for future reference.
Take Care,
Lisa

Melanie - You crack me up! I wouldn’t want any noise after going to the school either:)
Coffee is in order.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh girl I hear ya. Every time I go to the school and eat lunch with my daughter I usually go home and take a nap or pop some Ibuprofen. How do teachers do it?? They are amazing.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Meg. I want you to know how much I’ve enjoyed following you and your family on your daily journey. Your blog is my favorite…and that’s saying something… I follow ALOT of different ones. Just thought you’d like to know that:)

kristin - i. hear. you.
take care, friend.

Maria - Love the shoeboxes! What a great thing to do…putting it in my calendar for next year and going to try and send at least one off for this year! Thanks for sharing!

amy - just wanted to wish my dear bloggy friend a happy thanksgiving.
happy thanksgiving! šŸ™‚

jennifer - That’s such a great idea to do the CC shoeboxes as a Thanksgiving activity!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Megan!

carissa... brown eyed fox - have i told you already?
don’t recall.
your HAIR… SO cute!
BIG hugs to you… and a hAppY Thanksgiving!

Anne Marie - Your dinner and presents look terrific. I have to say though that I’m disappointed schools are still doing the “dress like a stereotype of a Native American” thing when it’s so inaccurate and stereotyping of Native Americans. I thought that went out over the last decade or so.

se7en - Oh you guys have such fun!!! You are really good at turning the “Whatevers” in life into “specials”… We also do shoeboxes, Fun!!!

lora - Thanks for the video about the shoeboxes. I’ll show it to my kids. They had fun shopping (I only have 2…and is much easier than 5!) Your boxes look great. The kids who receive them will be so happy. I saw a picture this morning in the Focus on the Family magazine of kids running with their boxes after receiving them. It made me cry.

Joni - I’ve done those shoeboxes for years, but never thought to go with a theme! What a smart idea, themes are so much fun and they can work up enthusiasm! Good job on that…and I loved all your photos that summed up your week since Sunday. Dinner looked wonderful!
XOXO
Joni

Beth - Great post šŸ™‚ I hear you about the noise, really I do!! And I also hear you about the screaming in room and a long day! I have been forcing my kids to clean today. Company coming. They argue it’s only Aunt Debbie. House is still a mess, but much better than it was. I’m starting a new art teacher blog at http://www.keepingthemistakes.wordpress.com Only one post so far. Hope it’s a good day!

Jacci - Happy Thanksgiving šŸ™‚ Looks like you all had a wonderful celebration already. I’m making the stuffing this year – the smell of the celery and onion we just sauteed along with that top pic made me really hungry! Hope you all have a great weekend.
Jacci in Ohio

Amy - Haha! THE NOISE, NOISE, NOISE!!! That cracked me up! We did Operation Christmas child as well…I had MY Annie and Noah watch that video too…thanks for passing it along! Great post…neat pictures!
HAPPIEST THANKSGIVING TO YOU!
PS-how do you get CLEAR pictures INSIDE with NO FLASH? šŸ™‚

margaret - We have been doing shoeboxes since last year. The Sunday school class I teach does them.
This time of year is alwasy so busy.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

Amanda - We do shoe boxes every year too. It’s one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. I love watching my kids experiencing the joy of giving, and listening to them as they pray over each box…it warms my heart.
I love the arts and crafts theme you did, I think we might steal your idea for our boxes next year!

misty - I read this blog and then headed to our neighborhood watch coordinators house to drop off the turkey my husband received from his work. Last week I asked her if she knew a needy family that would need a turkey~ she called me last night and said she had just the family~ 2 little girls 8 & 2~ just moved here with their mother who is running from a severely abusive relationship & they have nothing & missed the deadlines for the angel tree and holiday baskets. When I heard they missed the deadline for the angel tree I told her to find out what they needed & wanted so she did. The 8 year old wants art supplies. The 2 year old wants dishes lol So, Hobby Lobby here I come~ are supplies it is! and I wrote down everything you put in this box for some ideas… Then I will hunt down some play dishes. =) It was crazy to me to read this, drive a mile down the road and hear her say~ she just wants art supplies. =)

Staci - I was JUST thinking that same thing….about the stew šŸ™‚ My kiddo wouldn’t TOUCH it if I had made it home…..GOOD FOR TALBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Thanksgiving Sweet Bloggy Friend!!! šŸ™‚

Tanya - You are such an inspiration. I’m very thankful you share your family, love and joy with the world. Happy Thanksgiving!

Casey - Operation Christmas Child is my favorite charity to do with children. I love how it relates to them…..and how they encourage prayer after the boxes are sent. We started last year and will continue……glad to know so many participate!
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m grateful for this crazy blogging world and to “know” you because of it!

Sharla B. - Sophie really wants to go to school right now. šŸ™‚ Happy Thanksgiving!

Art Cant Hurt - i thought i was the only one who screamed over lost barbie blankets! šŸ™‚
have a wonderful thanksgiving filled with the grace and blessings given to you by Him!
take care!

Crystal - We have already had a long day here too…Moses was awake from 3-5:30!!! oy! I’m sending you a box today…just somethings you could maybe use or your girls can put to use. šŸ™‚ xo

dawn - We love the shoeboxes too. AND — I know those days — the ones that start with a screaming child… My screaming child is at school today — but now I have two dogs that follow me like the pied piper. I think we all need a walk! Have a great weekend. šŸ™‚

Trish - šŸ™‚

Debra - Oh dear lots going on! We do the shoeboxes too here in Canada. I love knowing where they’re going. Don’t work too hard and have a good Thanksgiving!

Donje - happy thanksgiving megan!

Having been on computers for oh, 25 years (eeek!) I always take a break about every ten to fifteen minutes and look far away, making sure I focus on something out there. Don’t have to get up from the chair. Just look outside. Keeps the eye muscles working at different focal lengths. Blessings always ~

when i found this typewriter at the antique store…i nearly passed out.
i had planned on perusing the store but there it was in the second booth….DONE.
no need to shop anymore.
there is no way there was anything cooler in the entire store.
period.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Whitney - I just discovered your blog today! So much inspiration for my own! I loved all of your pictures- beautiful family, beautiful house, beautiful crafts! Your dog is so cute- looks like my Wheaten Terrier- what is he/she? Love it all! So happy I found you, thanks to Ashley Ann Photography!

Jen Tufts - AHH! I’ve been looking for a typewriter like that since I saw a photo of one on flikr last year. Can I ask how much you paid? I’m tempted to say if I saw one, I’d take out a loan to buy it because it seriously makes my heart stop.

valerie - the typewriter is gorgeous. does it work?

Michelle - Just took a tour of your painted lady home. Beautiful, the pictures as well. Must be heaven to live what you love!

Andrea - LOVE! The leopard shoes.

lindsey - That typewriter is awesome! I am quite jealous of this find. šŸ˜‰
{ Lindsey }
http://greatfullday.blogspot.com

pve - I was thinking that you just need to let go and let god. Place your trust in knowing that you are not in control, you are merely here to serve. I think you are serving so many – so well – and that someone is indeed watching you with a grand master plan.
Good things to you – Happy Thanksgiving.
pve

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I hope hope hope I never tire of that perfect shade of aqua. I can’t imagine that I will, but I also used to think that about Shabby Chic everything.
Also, I love that you have “pray” listed under Chores. It just cracked me up. šŸ™‚

Mandi - 2 Questions:
1) The circular “M” tag that is in one of the pictures–is it for sale? I have a collection of M’s hanging on my living room wall–I call it my M wall and when I saw the one in your photo, I fell in love! Just wanted to check.
2) I also love the flowers–are they hair clips? Are they for sale?
Thanks!
Mandi

sherry - Been eyeing your rainbow cake/cupcakes for a few months in anticipation to make them when my youngest turned one…it was a long process but so fun! Thanks for sharing that!! I think it will be a new tradition at our house for sure!
Here our some pics… (pay no attention to the outside of the cake–not exactly my forte šŸ™‚ )

i am just going to show all my pics….this is going to be long.
maybe you need to take a bathroom break before you start?
or grab another cup of coffee?
ready?

here we go.
we drove to omaha on thursday….talked non-stop.
we followed the GPS to an empty field by the airport and it said "you have reached your destination"
the laughing was as funny as the GPS.
jana got our her pink phone and we followed that gps instead.

the first event at silver bella is a welcome dinner.
jana and i got out of our travel sweats and all dolled up….ready to face a room of strangers!
i hate that feeling.
so glad i had jana to help me feel brave.

IMG_2451  IMG_2454

to put me at ease…megan was the first person we met in the door.
and she was talking to jo packham…editor of where women create.
megan said a bunch of really nice things about me to jo and i was flattered…it felt kind of out-of-body.
i was so happy to meet megan in real life and give her a hug.
she's tiny…and i had on very high heels.  (can you say amazon?!)

IMG_2466  IMG_2468

then i met jen.
she was so sweet…i wished we'd had some time to get to know each other.
but we had no classes together even.
another time jen.

and i met miss lynn.
she was delightful.

so we ate and got to know the women at our table.
then there was a craft sponsored by fiskars.
it was chaotic….but we received a bag of stamps…that was cool.

after the dinner & craft it's time for SWAPS.
jana and i didn't take part in any swaps and we were very glad about that.
but i think we may be the only women who didn't….and that's ok with me.
(swaps are where you make one thing per person of whatever the swap theme you signed up for)
we went back to our room and talked some more.

friday morning we didn't have a class so we hit the antique store.
our first workshop was after lunch….with jennifer murphy.
it was much more fun than i was expecting!

IMG_2529  IMG_2530

this snowman clip was really cute once you started…it was challenging too.
my hands hurt when it was over.
i have a new appreciation for jennifer's art. (she's in the pink apron)
and lisa was at SB by herself…lives in omaha and has 4 boys at home. (gray sweater…no blog)
we had many classes together, so many that she was probably sick of me.
hi lisa!

IMG_2532  IMG_2534

funny story:
while working on our snowmen the ladies at our table start talking martha stewart.
and by talk i mean trash talk.
and i am one of them.
i love martha…but i also can't stand "martha"…does that make sense?
we all had our stories and after about 5 minutes the young beautiful girl quietly sitting by jana says
"i was on her show this year."
so humble.
so quiet.
the table went nuts!
"WHAT?!  FOR WHAT?! TELL US EVERYTHING?! OH MY GOSH!?  WOW?!"
she said we were all right about what we said but that she loves her too…she was gracious for the opportunity to be on the show.
exactly.
martha is the queen you have to admit it.
i would bow down if she walked into the room.

this is amy powers.  i love her blog…i was thrilled to meet her.

IMG_2535
IMG_2539

the second workshop was to make a rosary style necklace.
i thought we would be putting charms on a necklace…no…we made the whole necklace!
it took a full three hours.
i can't believe i really did it!  i
am pretty proud of it.

IMG_2542
IMG_2674

immediately after that was the FAMOUS silver bella vendor fair.
that means shopping.
jana and i are pretty good at shopping…
there was so much glitter and jewels it was a bit overwhelming.
the theme was aprons…so everyone was wearing one…in case you notice that.

IMG_2555
this is where i spent my money.
i was dying to see her work with my own eyes….it's amazing.
i loved meeting professor lasertron and lasermom.  :)
i could've just sat down and talked all night…if i wouldn't have missed all the shopping.

IMG_2589
IMG_2615

IMG_2606

IMG_2543   IMG_2564

IMG_2563   IMG_2557

after this was over we walked outside and ate at the twisted fork.
SO GOOD!
and i loved the decor.
very cool place.

the workshops were early on saturday…
i hate getting out of bed anytime and especially when i am on vacation.

but we made it.
we learned how to make a heart shaped box…i didn't finish…in 3 hours.

oh well.
i think i will buy my boxes anyway…but it was interesting to learn how to do it.

 IMG_2635

we went to a luncheon from here to hear jo packham speak….she had about 7 minutes.
there must have been a time problem because before she even got into her speech
they said she was out of time.

it was sad.  she was so interesting and i REALLY wanted to hear her speak.
that was truly sad.
i bet she had taken a lot time to prepare her presentation too.
we could've learned something from her…
can you tell how bummed i was and still am?

but i met jeanne at that lunch.
that was worth the frustration of having no speaker.
she asked jana and i to come to dinner with her and her two new friends.
you know how to boost a woman's self esteem…..invite her out with you!

IMG_2637

we went to two more workshops after the luncheon.
(i know…you are feeling tired of reading this right?  i warned you it was long)

workshop #4 was with charolette lyons.
a free spirited mobile of houses and trees.
loved it.
we had the entire time to just create with what was there…no instructions….ahhhhhhh.

IMG_2643
IMG_2688

then our last workshop was with jennifer again.
a little birdie in a box.
it fun and different than something i would try at home.
lisa was at our table again and princess lasertron and carmen.
we were all (all the silver bellas..not just our table) very tired by this time of the day….very.

IMG_2647
mine is the brown one to the right.

we cleaned up and walked out from the workshop and all the silver bella stuff was gone and another
conference was all set up and a wedding reception was going on also.
that was kind of weird.
there was no goodbye or anything.
strange.

we walked to dinner with jeanne, sharon and kana
it was possibly the highlight of silver bella.
i think that was what i was looking for…connection.

IMG_2671

it was such a good time…we laughed and we cried.
the table was all tenderhearted women that cry when there is something to say from your heart.
kana said "i hate that i cry all the time….i have a tender heart but it makes me MAD!"
so funny.

jana and i stayed up until after 2:00 finishing our mobiles and more talking.
bigger stuff…
she asked me about my dreams or what i really want.
i have no answer for that.
i haven't let my mind go there…that's scary.
those late night talks can get deep!

we slept in on sunday.
we packed up our car…took the wrong way many times to get to pottery barn and anthropolgie…
but it was worth it.
we made it home just as the kids were getting into bed.
loved that.
they missed me and i missed them.
and then cuddled up on the couch with mr. craig.
all was right in my dreamy artsy world….for that evening.  :)
gotta catch those moments when they happen.

silver bella was an experience.
it was cool.
i loved having a whole weekend with my friend.
i loved getting creative.
i loved meeting other bloggers…other creative women.
i loved the shopping.
i loved being away from my "mom" duties.
i loved eating out late and talking about stuff that is hidden in my soul.
i loved everything i got to do and see and the people i met.

but

i think silver bella is not for me.
i wanted something a little more personal..
and i don't why i thought silver bella would be that…at 200 women strong.
i don't think that i knew i wanted something more personal until i got there and saw that it wasn't.
i think after having been to SB….silver bella doesn't fit me.
or i don't fit silver bella?

and that's O-K.

but it does for so many other women (and you may be one of them).
and that is awesome.
we are not all the same…we can all like different things…i am so glad for that.

and now i know.
and for that knowledge i wouldn't trade my weekend for anything.
it's the start of something big…a journey for me…i am on the edge of it….it's just beginning.

i know the kind of thing i may be looking for next time.
(if my husband ever lets me leave the house again)

{beth} - i found your blog via bushel and peck and i am searching for that fantastic bathroom…one of my next home projects and yours is an inspiration.
fun to see your pics of silverbella.

Natasha Burns - Your post was great to read! I’ve just found your blog by a friend’s recommendation, and I’ve enjoyed my visit here a lot! I went to Silver Bella last year too, only, I travelled across the world. I had nothing to compare it to, but I completely understand about it being overwhelming and large. I too, found that the best part, was the friendships and laughing and crying together. What a shame that Jo couldn’t speak for longer. I heard she was fantastic, what she managed to fit in, in 7 minutes!
Thanks for your wonderful post and for your honesty and great pics. I’m happy for you that you had this experience to learn from.
Take care,
Natasha šŸ™‚

gabrielle - thanks so much for sharing. I love your honesty. Not sure if Silver Bella would be for me or not. I’m a people person and I love to get crafty at the same time. But I think you came away richer for the experience…eh? Your pictures are fabulous as always.

jennifer - it was so great having you in my workshop Meg!
Best wishes on the little one… I didn’t even notice you were pregnant (perhaps I was a little overwhelmed?!)- you look fantastic!

karlene - I am sorry that I didn’t get to meet you. I know exactly how you feel about SB, although it has given me friends that I would have missed not knowing. And for that, it is worth it. All my best for your dreams!!

robin bird - you are such a friend šŸ™‚ thank you for inundating my blog with visits. whenever you have me over there in your sidebar i suddenly become super popular and i love that šŸ™‚
this post looks so much like what i have been up to and yet there is so much more learning going on! the mobile is my favorite project. i would love to have experienced this. i am so glad you left nothing out. hey, you there girl, i am lovin’ that new hair cut. very chic. you are ever so much your true self every single day and i love you for that šŸ™‚
xoxoxo

miss lynn - HOLY STINK.
i can’t believe
you linked me!!!
my face has the
hugest smile ever
right now. aaahhhh!!
bless your heart!
happy day and
blessings!

Kristy - love your honesty too.
pictures look like fun.
we all need to remember that ITS OK, if something doesn’t fit right :O)
xo

Sarah - I love crafting like the next girl–but it would be too much foo foo in one room for me. šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
Sarah
Vintage Lily

danyele - i am sooo jealous of all the fun you had and the gfriends and all the crafty stuff you did! but i did love taking it all in a few minutes instead of days. sooo much fun!

Jana Perenchio - Hi Meg! I SO enjoyed your SB post, the best one I’ve seen & read by far, your photos are amazing and I loved reliving the experience through your eyes. I totally know what you’re saying about SB though and I don’t think I really realized exactly why I didn’t thoroughly enjoy myself this year until I read your post as I, too, was longing for something more personal….the way Silver Bella used to be. I hope our paths meet again someday. I will continue to check in on your and hope you’ll do the same with me. ((hugs))

DreamGirlLisa - I loved hearing all about your weekend, and how honest you always are. I enjoy the girlfriend time too, it’s good for my soul, but I don’t get enough of it. I wish I had more “crafting” friends too, although I cherish my besties, even if they aren’t crafty :). Your photography is so good, I see good things in your future with it. I feel like I’m on the edge too, but sometimes I think it’s on the edge of a cliff!! lol…but then I have one my girls snuggled up to me in bed at night and all is right with the world…..

Jen@thecottagenest - Hey Meg. It was so nice to meet you at SB this year. I have to say that I totally know what you are saying about the SB experience and I kind of suspected that when I saw you. I was feeling a bit of that myself this year. If felt much different than last year but maybe that’s just me and my perceptions along with the changes I’ve gone through this past year. I hope you find what you are looking for. I hope we all do. I’m not at all sure that I’m headed back to Silver Bella myself but I guess I’ll wait to make that decision. Take care. Jen

Christina - The desire for connection is so strong, I think especially these days. Some people have a great community right where they are, with friends that are nearby and that they get to see often, or with family nearby that they are close to (relationshipwise as well)…we have moved around a bit and I hesitate to make friends, really good friends these days. But at the same time there is this longing for being settled, and for knowing people, other women, and like you said, talking and laughing and crying with them. I had that in a seminary community many years ago and when you leave that kind of situation it’s hard. The real world is hard! But…I suppose that it is time to grow up, right? šŸ™‚
Thanks for sharing your experience. It was fun to see.

Cate O'Malley - Sounds like a wonderful weekend of discovery … self-discovery, discovery of new friends, new ideas, new crafts!

Laura Phelps - I’ve been “on the edge” of something for years now
and then I panic…
I think, “Maybe this IS it for me”
maybe there is NO edge
maybe I have already jumped, and here I am!
and then I feel guilty…
“Why is this not enough? Why does there need to be more? Why can’t I be satisfied with using my creativity for my family?”
And then I give it all up to God…
after drinking, and crying and feeling frustrated and carrying bags of resentment and guilt and bitterness and jealousy of all those around me who seem to have found their creative space and are successful and seem to be doing it all..
THEN, I give it all up to God!
and the pics of SB? Beautiful, but my first thought was, “I would be SO INTIMIDATED!!!!”
yes, too big
My kind of thing would be 5 people…oh, lets say….at YOUR house…baking and cooking in the kitchen, sharing ideas, shopping, getting coffee, and eating and praying…yes, in that order…

Nora - I stumbled on your blog through a friend’s blog this weekend and started to laugh so hard. I was at the Embassy Suites in Omaha all last week on business, and you can imagine my surprise Friday morning when I found the breakfast room full of women with craft bins, bags, and totes EVERYWHERE. I wondered what the heck was going on, went to work and put it out of my mind. Then I found your blog. Small world. It’s a great blog, btw.

Tonya McDaniel - I don’t think I’m a Silver Bella kinda girl either. I’d much rather sit down w/someone and get to know them verses sitting in a room w/a boat-load of other people. I don’t know what weekend you went to SB, but last Friday night I had the same “dreams/what do I really want” conversation w/my bff. You’re right….those late night talks can get deep!

princesslasertron - thanks so much for all of your kind words about me. šŸ™‚ this post really made my day. and look at goofball dave–what a cute dork.
I’m really sorry I didn’t go to dinner with you guys! I think I would have had a lot of fun.
I feel the same way about silver bella. you put it into the right words. I cant wait until we can hang out again šŸ™‚

pve - You are so honest to come clean. I know that you are on the edge of some sort of connectivity – I can feel it.
no apron needed.
pve

jenjen - What fun! I can’t think of anything more fun or exciting!!!
XOOX
Jen

Valerie @ Frugal Family Fun Blog - What a wonderful adventure you’ve shared with us! Part of me was oozing with jealousy just reading about it, but I too would be yearning for something more personal. I think that’s true for most of us creative types. I do hope your hubby lets you leave the house again! And blog about it!

Sara @ Queen of the House - The shopping looks so great. I think I would have felt the same way. I’ve always loved your posts about your craft weekends like the one you did for water for Christmas. That sounds like my idea of a good time.

jennifer - I’m so glad you got to go and discover all that you did. My friend invited me to go to SB with her last year. I had never heard of it before so I checked out the link she emailed me to see what it was all about. I got intimidated just looking at the website! šŸ™‚ It looks amazing, but not for me either. I love that God made us all different and then has blessed us with all kinds of different outlets for us to use the gifts He’s given us. Still trying to figure mine out… I think it might be reading blogs! HA!

The Unconventional Doctor's Wife - Love this! Connections are a primary reason I blog and read what other bloggers are writing about! I just love all the creative ideas, heartfelt emotions and life experience that we all benefit from sharing! It is so great to read a post and come away feeling refreshed, inspired or uplifted! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I always look forward to reading your posts!

Meredith - Glad you had time away to create and laugh and meet new people. Perhaps if you felt a little disappointed in the lack of connection, others did too. Why don’t you run a similar one yourself, but with a slightly different focus? Women yearn for connections, without them we seem to wilt don’t we? You certainly seem to have a gift for bringing people together and placing value upon them and having a great laugh at the same time. Dream big Meg, who knows what can happen. Meredith xo.

Julia - It’s interesting reading how you knew it wasn’t for you. Sometimes I get that feeling and I think “what’s wrong with me?” when I really should just know (like you wrote) that whatever it is, it isn’t right for me but right for some people.
Weird? It’s late. And it’s been a loooongg day.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I love your re-cap. It definitely does seem a little harried – which wouldn’t be what I was looking for, either. I wonder if it is growing so much that it is changing? The things I heard about last year’s event seem quite different than what I’m hearing this year.
Nevertheless, I’m no crafter, so SB is not on my immediate horizon. That Brave Girl camp has me wondering, though…
ps- Too bad that you didn’t get a little more time with Jen! Impossible not to love that one.

Courtney Walsh - I get overwhelmed to imagine leaving the house and all my duties…and actually not worrying about them while I”m gone! It’s been so long. I understand what you’re saying. I typically like a smaller group myself. šŸ™‚ But that antique store had to make it all worth it!!

Courtney - It’s amazing how many people there I would have loved to meet as well! Blogland is a small world… kinda šŸ™‚ I’m a one-on-one kinda girl though. I recently went to a writer’s retreat with about 50 women and I much prefer my 6 woman writing group šŸ™‚

Melanie - I am glad that you got to visit with friends and meet people that you have come to know online. SB wouldn’t have been for me either. I took a Karen Russell class and it was perfect. Very small and personal. By the way, your haircut is cute!

Mickie Lara - I know this will sound crazy and incredibly cheesy but this post almost made me cry. And, I am not typically that tenderhearted but it came down to what you said about connection. I think that is what a lot of us are looking for these days (at the risk of sounding too generic.) And why I and many others were on a high of sorts after being a part of the Pioneer Woman’s book signing. And why blogs like yours and hers are so enjoyable to read. I need it every day now! We want that connection to those who can relate to us and you are providing a piece of that puzzle… and it sounds like more is waiting to happen.

adrienneK - wow that looks like eye candy for days! and what a great (honest ) account!! im not sure i would fit in to well, but i do loooove to create, and looove pretty things?!and oh btw i am no in LOVE with princess lasertron,if she is reading, please be my BFF lol

christi - wow. what an amazing trip. thanks for linking to blogs i didn’t know about, too!

Lisa - Another super post – thanks for sharing
– Lisa (from Omaha)

Heather - I love the WHOLE post, especially the ending. I appreciate so much how REAL you are in all that you do. Thanks for that! I think you’re swell!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - You would have loved Brave Girl camp…that would have been for you, and Jeanne was there too! I know God has great things in store for you…for all of us. We just have to follow those dreams and yes even speak them out loud:) Great pics Meg. Your crafts were bea-u-ti-ful;)

Debra - I enjoyed your post. It’s good to be honest about your experiences. Maybe you should try Brave girls camp, that sound awesome! I wish we had events like these in Canada. (sigh)

jeanne - Beautiful, beautiful post…and the best part is that you are are on journey. I agree about SB. It wasn’t for me either…but then I wouldn’t have met you!!!! I swear we are soul mates!!! We will have to go to a SMALLER art event soon…if you are able to leave the house.

Jamie - Wow! It sounds like a busy, fun time! It’s always great to discover new things about yourself. It usually leads to change & I think change is good. It sounds like you need to start your own “gathering”. šŸ™‚ Glad you had a fun time. It’s always nice to get away & rejuvinate yourself!

Darby - Looks like fun, but not my kind of fun either! Glad you realized that and had the guts to say it! I always appreciate transparency!!

Kristin - Oh my gosh, I am soooo jealous. I have wanted to go to this for years. : ) It looks like you had a blast. It’s so wonderful you got to go and gives me hope that someday I can convince my husband to send me. Thanks for all the photos, I say the more photos the better. : )

pam - mother runner stole my words! seriously! i was going to say the SAME thing. this post was ALMOST like being there with you only i didn’t have to bear the glitter! šŸ™‚
love you both!

Renee - i really like you, meg
thanks for sharing
xoxo

Kelly O. - I completely understand…
however Silver Bella sounds like just the thing for me!
I wish we had things like that in Canada!

Hope @ The Queen Of Re - I am now officially drunk on icandy!!! stumbling way….happy

Trish - šŸ™‚ great post! i have that green shirt šŸ™‚

Mother Runner - you both look gorgeous! so happy and refreshed. just what a mommy’s soul needs.
ps – see the hair….LOVE IT!

Sarah @ Dream In Domestic - It looks like you had a fun time, but I’m glad you are able to be realistic about the whole thing. You learned something about yourself while you were there, which is always good! Thanks for sharing all the photos with us! It wasn’t too long at all!

Lauren Thomas - It’s so much fun to be on the edge of the next great thing in your life! The great thing is that when we know it’s God’s plan for us, we don’t have to worry about planning it!!! IT just happens like it’s supposed to! That’s how it’s all working out with my photography business.
I am so desperately looking for that connection piece in my life now too!
Just know that you’re such an inspiration to everyone that reads your blog!!!

Kate - You are amazing. So glad you had time away. So glad you got to be you. So glad for you. šŸ™‚

A pocket full of posies... - LOVE your honesty!!! so refreshing! I’m glad you got to go…glad you are following your dreams…and I will be praying for you – for what I know will be an AMAZING new adventure!
Many Blessings!

Sara Cameli - I know what you mean about feeling like you are on the edge of something, just about to…feeling like maybe you can, bursting with a need to create and create something personal and from the heart. Love you!

crash

you know how when you have a high…..

there has to be a low?

that is where i am now.
i had this perfectly lovely weekend where i got to travel with my friend and talk out my feelings
with someone who gets me…like really gets me.
i got to be creative and work with my hands and mind for two days straight.
i met so many kind women who share creative passions.
i got to shop and shop.
i got to sleep and be away and off the clock.
i turned off my cell phone.

and then i came home.

and it was so nice….hugs and love and "oh mommy i missed you so much"

and then there was the next day.
the fighting children.
the drama.
the hurtful words and yelling of teenagers.
the laundry.
the mess.
dinner to be made.

crash.

it is always hard to come home and find that balance between
where your heart was and where reality is.

did i depress you?
i'm sorry.
i just wanted to be honest since i told you i was on a happiness high…
and being real to tell you that i am now feeling a reality LOW.

the completely gray skies don't help either.

i feel a little better already just by writing out how i'm feeling.
relief.

let's change the subject shall we?
let me show you the antique store in omaha.
it was dreamy.

second chance antiques.

cowboy boots.

all worn in…soft and comfy.
šŸ™‚

i have put my violin away
and i am ready to stop whining.

i will keep working on pictures…
give hugs when they are needed…
and smile at my kids.

i will think through my weekend when i have time to do that.

and i will make choices of what i will bring into my everyday life…

and what needs to wait for the next season of life.

but right now…i need to think about what to make for dinner.

Grandmom - I have one of those green suitcases, my MIL gave it to us when he came home from the Army for Christmas in 1971.

seleta - Thanks for this post. Last week I had a two day break and did a road trip with a good friend. I went through every single emotion you just described…except the teen part, mine were fighting at ages 10, 7, 5 and 3.
You inspire.

Shenandoah bed and breakfast - The Family is an integral part of our lives. How much we go out after coming home there is family and innocent kids who love you and wears off all exhaustion and tiredness with their little innocent mischievous activities.

Dina - just wanted to give you a hug and let you know how much I enjoy your blog. I love how real you are and you describe so many of the same things that I feel on a daily basis.
take care šŸ™‚ (and put on those boots! that would cheer me up quick!!)

H-Mama - Nothin’ like some good thrift/antique store shopping to lift the spirits. šŸ˜‰

Brianna - Awesome shots! Makes me want to go antiquing.

elisa - ride the wave, that’s what I always do.
Take care of yourself šŸ™‚

Melanie - Meg, I sent you an email tonight and now I know why. Please read it. I am crashing too but for different reasons. Moving across the country, my house being out of sorts, (not good for my OCD personality) dealing with a sick husband & son, my ear getting infected, getting read-ended in my husbands SUV…..just really too much to handle at one time. I understand that we are crashing over different things but we can relate to each others feelings. I hope your week ends nicely and you have a great weekend. My hubby is out of town all week long and we just moved in on Tuesday of last week, so I am feeling overwhelmed with it all. The weather is not helping me either. You know that I am use to that sunny warm Florida weather but that is not what we have up in Ohio. It might be a long winter for me.

Jennifer Allwood - love the boots!!!!!

Tami B. - Adore your photos from Second Chance Antiques…I wasn’t able to got to Silver Bella this year, so I’m especially enjoying all of the awesome blog posts! Happy Holidays!

Mrs. - Now that I have a job, and not as much time to cyber stalk you, I noticed I am the 81st person to notice the haircut, and give it a thumb’s up. Nice for a change, don’t you think? I have a 12 year old. I like to say, we have a dark cloud over our house all the time, and we never know the hormonal forecast. $20 to the person who can predict correctly when THIS phase is over.
P.S. I, too am tired of the constant laundry, dishes and meals. Seriously, didn’t I do all that yesterday, and the day before, and the day before…

Shannon - I read your blog from time to time, not even sure how I came about it- but! I was at Silver Bella, too. Had no idea you were there, or that I sort of “knew” someone there. It was such an amazing time for me, it was strange to come back to real life, to people who don’t quite get why “craft-camp” was so special . . . anyways- cheers- and hope your day turns around.

Hannah M - I’m going to Omaha over Thanksgiving! Thanks for giving me a new shoppe to visit….and for your honest mommy musings. I hear ya!

Sandy - Did I miss a post about your hairut?! Adorable! And the green suitcases…I don’t have the whole set, but I do have ONE left over from when I was a kid. Does that mean I’m antique?! šŸ™‚

tami reed - I would have passed out in the store omg, flatlined…..

Jennifer - hey Meg looks like enormous fun!!! Sometimes hard to renter the real world.

Rachel / cREaTe - i personally LOVE your honesty. šŸ™‚ it helps me realize you are a real person, not a character in an awesome, perfectly colored blog. i come to your blog for all the inspiration & motivation you give – on being a mom & being creative. and part of you being an inspiration is your ability to show the real you. it’s not depressing … it’s reality. and it makes you even MORE likable! šŸ™‚ i like those kinds of posts just as much as the next. don’t you sweat it, girl.

purejoy - who wouldn’t be down after basking in that gloriousness!! thanks for bringing me there!! (and i’ll fight ya for the boots)

Lisa - Hi Meg – just found your blog, and am amazed by your pics, and the great house you live in. Was so fun meeting you and Jana at Silver Bella – tell Jana I said hi!
Lisa (from Omaha)

Melissa - I can totally relate to the coming home to life, I have experience it many times. {sigh} Love your blog!

jenjen - Oh wow – what a WONDERFUL place. I would have gone CRAZY! I love those old wheels, the vintage jewelry. Sooooo fabulous!

Jen

paige - you are just precious
i love that you are an honest woman….that darn crash thing often seems to follow some of our best highs…i’m with ya.
i look forward to hearing more about silver bella
after you create world peace & dinner in your home
xo

Amanda - Wow, that antique store in Omaha looks sooo cool! I am just now learning to appreciate old.
Love the boots, by the way!
Oh yeah… kids and housework are real buzz killers after girl time. Such is life, eh?!
Hang in there!

jennifer - You got your hair cut! VERY cute!
Hope the happiness picks up as the day goes on!
(Love the boots!)

Staci - I always say…there reeeeally needs to be some kind of place you can go for “re-entry” back into the real life BEFORE you get home…like at the airport…they should make you do your own laundry and make your meals….just sayin’ I’m sorry you are feeling low…I will say a prayer for you today šŸ˜‰

joycee - It’s a hard job being Mommy. Sometimes there’s just nothing more to give and you have to pull back for a little while. I’ve been feeling like that lately and did a post this week…
http://grannymountain.blogspot.com/2009/11/healthy-mind-healthy-body.html

jennifer - I’ve so been there! And the longer I’m away, the harder re-entry is.
Love the boots and the sassy new haircut!
Mostly I love that you keep it real!
Praise the Lord that each day is a new one!

Ashlee Archibald - CUTE HAIRCUT!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I was recently JUST a teeenager. I remember those words. that feeling. it's not you, Mom. I promise. šŸ™ It makes me sad just thinking about all the words I threw at my Mommma. I hated being a teenager and I still cringe when I think about it. My Mom is my best friend in the world now, I hope the grey subsides soon.
CUTE BOOTS too!! šŸ™‚
xoxox

kristin - ha! i got myself a pair of worn and curly boots last week at the thrift shop. awesome.
that place looks dreamy. i hear you on the reality bit. i still need a vacation.

princesslasertron - Hi Miss Meg šŸ™‚
I’m so glad you got a picture of that kitty. He is the best. I have been in that store so many times and yet you captured so many angles and places and things I have never noticed.
You are wonderful and I am glad we are friends!
xo

susie whyte - wow. 61 comments before me. sigh. i don’t know how many times it’s been mentioned by now but “HOLY CUTE HAIRCUT, BATMAN!” šŸ™‚
i’m not going to throw out the advice, just the “i’ve been there” comment. i spent a week last summer with our youth in tennessee at ciy. knowing that teens would stretch my patience limit, my husband would ask me everyday if i was ready to come home. i would always answer no. ha ha. i’ll take lauren(and we will play pepper with the volleyball all day–well, until my arm gives…maybe an hour)and you can take my 3 1/2 yr old who told her dad at wal-mart that she didn’t want to hear his voice. šŸ™‚ i don’t have my own teen, but i sure do feel your pain!!

Christina - Those things are so real…the going away and getting filled, and then returning home and feeling as though someone knocked the pitcher over just as you walked through the door. Sometimes I feel like that even after church. We walk through the door, and it’s an immediate spiral! I think,”Did I just come from worship? Really?” Thanks for sharing honest feelings. It does help to “talk” about it. šŸ™‚ I agree with others, your hair is really cute. I hope some sunny skies come your way!

Amy Bryant - Keepin’ it real … you’re just keepin’ it real! What good would the highs be without the lows? Being a mom is the most thankless job of all … and to make it worse, we don’t get to see the results of our hard work until the kids are grown with families of their own. So, when a hard day hits – and they do HIT – we kinda have to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps and keep on truckin’. No matter how great the hubby is, they can’t really get it. All of that is why I allow myself the *ME* trips AND the pity parties!!!
I’m a new reader and you are the only blog that I read every day (well – and Cake Wrecks) but the other day I read a post where you were answering questions and you said that you aren’t perfect, that the house is a mess etc – and you were kinda putting yourself down. Well – I was in a pediatric neurologists waiting room for 2 hours today and for some reason started thinking of you while watching the kids and parents interacting. I thought of one post where you said you make sure the girls have clothes in their drawers that fit and then let them dress themselves … well girl, just one glance at Talby and Annie and it is obvious that they are confident, happy, creative, carefree children who LOVE being kids – and that is ALL due to YOU!
It is you who teaches your children to wring every ounce of happiness out of their day. You who are letting them know that it’s okay to have laundry on the couch and spend time doing something that brings joy. You who pull out paints, or shaving cream, or a leaf pile instead of parking them in front of a TV.
I read your blog because you remind me to spend TIME with my son. Perfection is not what they will remember, but time IS. You are also teaching your children how to be happy with themselves and how to find happiness in the little things. Your children will never rely on things or people to make them happy – their happiness will come from inside. They will find joy in a box of new crayons, or a colorful shirt – not just in a new video game.
SO – have your down day. It is okay. It is normal. It is expected. But know that your children are a huge reflection of what kind of job you are doing as a mother, and your children reflect a happy, confident, fun, creative, loving, smart, sassy, giving, empathetic, fabulous mom!

donna - You know what I have come to realize…….sometimes going away is more torture than just staying home…..because of the “crash”……..for me, with 6 kids…….I work my butt off before I leave….making sure the laundry is in order, precooked meals, lists and lists…….stay up all night before I leave making sure everything is in perfect order……wake up ready to go, but I am exhausted (usually forget half of my belongings because I was too busy getting things in order for hubby with kids……have fun while I am gone……relax…then I come home and UGH! I like the one word summary “crash” – perfect I am going to borrow that word!

Becca Parker - We lived in Omaha for a short while, and went to Second Chance several times. It’s a wonderful junky place, I got the coolest antique wash tub, it’s followed me through four moves since. Don’t let the daily reality get you down.

Patti - ok – things i noticed:
1. that shop made me drool all over my keyboard.
2. your hair looks super duper cute!
3. i’m loving those boots.
4. you are human.
5. you seem to be a fantastic mom.
6. you are so talented.
7. you see the good, even through the bad.
8. everyone, even you, are allowed to have your crash.
hope that stuff didn’t sound like a creepy blog stocker…cause i’m not. i promise. i just feel your pain and know that it sometimes feels good to know that other people (moms) get it.

Trishia Gallardo - Totally understand, I just had a weekend with friends (that included a day in Omaha!) and had that feeling when I got home to my kids…
I’ve never seen that shop in Omaha, will have to check it out! And the gray boots are fantastic šŸ™‚

Jacqui - i love the way you verbalise what so many of us feel!! lows make the highs that much better šŸ™‚

Kristine - i love your hair! super cute! and i love that you got GRAY BOOTS! i just ordered some online that ended up being brown but they looked grey in the pictures. so i got back online and did a search for grey b/c that’s what i decided i’d had my heart set on. then i wore my brown cowboy boots and i only take them off to sleep šŸ™‚ i LOVE them!!!! and i wear them with ANYTHING!!!! great find! you deserve it!

Mifter's Mom - I totally feel your pain. I have “dark days” every so often…and with drama with my child’s father, I’ve been having “red days” here lately!!
I just keep repeating, “this too shall pass. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!”.
Love the shots of the antique store!!

Michelle B - Oh I know exactly how you are feeling! I hope tomorrow is a better day. It will be. As for Omaha…were you in the Old Market area? It seems I have been to this store. Love all the antique stores in the Old Market. šŸ™‚

Ryanne - I am sorry you are having a poopy day, and I hope it gets better, it will. Can’t wait to hear about Silver Bella.
Thanks for your delightful pictures.

Kelly - Did you happen to eat at an Italian place down the street from that antique place? I am not 100% sure that’s where it/you were but I used to go to Omaha to visit one of my good college girlfriends and we had the BEST risotto for our birthdays at that place and the brick and windows look the same . . . hoping you’re settling out . . . I understand the crashes. had one yesterday somewhat. Kelly

The Tulip Lady - First of all, you have great hair right now, cute cut. Second of all, as long as you have an air bag (aka supportive husband, coffee, dark chocolate) you will walk away from the crash in fine form. Hang in there. Repeat after me, “I have cute hair, I have cute hair, I have cute hair”…..

Patricia - Reality ~ sometimes amazingly wonderful, sometimes NOT. Here’s wishing you more highs than lows! The antique store looks like so much fun. I could get lost in there for hours! Love your boots :o)

patricia - I am so glad you keep it real.

Meredith - Um, hello…fabulous hair alert:) The highs and lows of life can always take us by surprise can’t they? That’s what bubble baths are for. Thinking of you today, hoping you’re having an easier time of things…if I could send you over one of your Sonic razzleberry whoosiwhatsits that you so love, I would. Meredith xo.

kasey - you know what i think? put that green dress on for a night out with the hubby…and maybe your cowboy boots?
you could start a trend!!
xo

julie - FABULOUS boots!
Did you get a haircut? It’s too cute!

Gratsia - I know exactly how you feel.

MS. Scientist - May I just direct you to the ever applicable quotation from one of my favorite reads? You have it right up there on the right, below the whatever heading…Philipians 4:8… Just think on these things. Thinking on anything else is just not right!(I feel ya, tho!)

christine - Oh man, is this ever the truth. Just minutes ago, my sweet husband gave me hugs as I cried about my crappy day so far. It’s just been one thing after another, and I’m emotionally and physically spent. As he let me just cry for a minute, he whispered into my ear that I have lots of really amazing, great days with our girls. Sometimes the bad ones will come, but those great ones far outnumber days like these. How I love that man!
Praying for you today as you embrace the realities of the day-to-day for the blessings that they are. Big hugs, Meg, I’m so inspired and blessed by your blog. Although I’m quite often a lurker, I appreciate you so much.

Kate - I COMPLETELY understand… I was in Texas for a wedding – had breakfast w/ college roommates – who GET me… then, wham-o. blam-o.
Hard to rejoice always sometimes, but that’s ok. I’ll keep swimming. šŸ™‚

Karen~ - Meg, I have a question for you and I’m sure you have answered it before. What kind of camera do you have? I am looking for a new one and would love some advice.
Thanks!
Karen~

Tera - Love the red sweater… super cute!

your cool friend Cheryl - I’m glad the teenage years won’t come for another 10 in this house!
I love that little green truck…feel free to send it to me! šŸ™‚
Feel better soon!

Cami - CUTE haircut!!! Did you notice how everyone picked up on that? LOL

Heidi Jo the Artist - Uh, I hate lows. I had a low day yesterday. But the good thing about lows is usually the next day is a bit better and for me it is today.
I saw you were going to be in Omaha and I thought wow Iā€™m going to be in the area the same weekend to visit my sister!? But then I got sick, and REALLY sick. Still sick, but slowly getting better. Iā€™m going to have to visit that antique shop when Iā€™m in the area, looks like fun! I have the awesome olive green suitcases like in your photo. I love that style/brand the BEST and recently came upon an orange one to add to our traveling collection. šŸ™‚
Hope your afternoon starts to go smoother.
Love your hair too btw!

Christy - Love your hair cut! It’s so cute.
I would love to dig around in that antique store..

Lisa - AND, I meant to say…CUTE HAIR!!!

Lisa - You put words to what I’m feeling today! Yesterday: Pioneer Woman book signing, good food, coffee, conversation and loads of shopping with my girls. Today: laundry (even a fall down the stairs carrying it to the basement…argh!), rainy yuckiness and well, the every day needs of two little ones. A friend of mine defined abundant life to me this way over the weekend and it is helping my perspective today…”Meaningful, relationships, knowing your purpose, and the opportunity to give your life away.” I am thankful for abundant life, even when it doesn’t feel as fun as it did yesterday! šŸ™‚

juliann brenner - Megan – looks and sounds like a restful and fun weekend. My mom always tells me that my “time” is coming. It is hard in the tornado-like days to remember that isn’t it? I get all overwhelmed (with just three kiddos) and I look at her and my dad and the time they get to be together, be alone, do their hobbies, have unrushed quiet times and take a deep breath…some day.

Ashley Ann - Cute haircut! Cute store! Cute boots! Cute green truck! Cute green luggage! Scary yellow clown!

Fidgeting Gidget - I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling with the “crash” thing. I wrote a post about the same type of thing today, only I called mine an “emotional hangover.”
Your pictures are lovely and definitely enough to help to turn my mood around a little. šŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing!

sandy toe - Oh…that store looks dreamy~
sandy toe
p.s. love the boots!

christi - sometimes i wonder if i’m the only one out there that has those crashes. those low times. those ugly days. i know i’m not but i also know it’s something that we don’t all like to write about. but alas, this is what i adore about your blog. your heart. your kind words. your honesty. you are an encouragement to this woman and for that i am thankful.

Stephanie Carroll - I think I am one of your younger readers, so, as one of your younger readers I will say (because it is fresh for me) teenagers come out of their selfish all about me dreamworlds and really come to appreciate their parents. I know I did. It will get better! I’m pretty embarrassed about how I yelled at my mom. Anyway, I told you in an email a long time ago that I hope when I have kids I am half the creative, loving, spunky mom you are. You’re doing a good job.

Taking Heart - Your blog always brightens my day.
Hope you have an up day soon!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Such true and honest words!
Happy that you had a wonderful weekend away!
Now, I’m off to try and figure out what’s for dinner, too!

Renee Khan - If you call that whining, make sure you never come to my blog.
Renee xoxo

Tara @ the cinnamon post - love, love, love your blog – the pictures, the writing, the honesty. you are fabulous and life is weary and wonderful and sometimes making dinner is just impossible. don’t apologize for your thoughts, they are enjoyed and appreciated by many! thanks for the antique store inspiration!!

lora - Love your hair…and your sweater….and yes, sometimes reality bites. But it’ll be better tomorrow. šŸ™‚
by the way, my hubby has an itch to explore the States, specifically Nebraska (we live in Canada and would love to relocate….). We’re driving down in December. From your pics of Omaha….I gotta get there!!!

Karina - I bet there’s not a reader on here who doesn’t understand where you’re coming from. You make it REAL.
I, too, LOVE your haircut and that sweater! I saw that picture and said, “Self, that is the look we must emulate.” (Yes, I talk to myself; I have three kids under 5 and a cat to keep me company all day every day. I am very fortunate, but it has made me a wee bit loopy.)

Amy - …it is tough to put on your game face after a bit of fun…I understand!
We tried you Apple Puff Pancake! IT WAS YUMMY! THANKS! šŸ™‚
Love the boots!

sarajane - hey love the new haircut! hope you figure out something fab for dinner šŸ™‚

sarah - I felt that same high and then low after coming home from Kansas.
Cute hair, you look adorable.
Love the boots,
and I need some of the antique jewelry goodness.
yum.
I love your honesty.

Diana - Right there with you, hon… the low days are real just like the rest of it. This is why your blog is so well-read. You are able to show all sides of yourself and everyone still loves you.
Mighty chic green dress! :p But the boots are rootin’ tootin’ awesome!
Have you checked out the antique store/flea market here in town? (700 block on the west side of main street) Not as big as the one you went to in Omaha, but lots of neat stuff.
Lookie there – the sun is coming out as I type! *woot* šŸ˜€

Tammy - Love the pics. And you are so right about the semi expected low after the highest of highs – hang in there. Thanks for sharing.

Kirsten - Awww, it’s okay…happens to me, too. Once I saw the definition for that let-down feeling that comes after a high time. “anticipointment”, that’s what it is. Sweet boots, by the way.

elizabeth - The photos are great — that store looks so wonderful. I, for one, am glad that you’ve described your reality “low.” I think it’s good for someone who clearly has a charmed life in many ways (!) to reveal that all is not perfect. Your blog is a source of beauty, of family life and love and for there never to be anything but “positivity” would make it dull and sort of meaningless. So thank you!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I crashed big time after Brave Girl’s Camp. Someone warned me it would happen and when it did I was so bummed. I kind of hoped the high would last a bit longer. Here’s praying your low doesn’t stay long.
I know you mentioned painting before. Get a canvas, a brush and just begin. That’s a sure fire way to get over the blues:)

Georgia - NICE HAIR!!!! you look lovely really suits you šŸ™‚ xx

Danielle Townsend - So, weird. I think you were in my dream last night. We live across the nation from each other, but I’m pretty sure it was you…in that dream-like way. You asked me to babysit your kids, which I was very excited about. But, before you left the house, someone needing help stopped by and you were more than willing to help them, and spent a good portion of my dream doing so. Be happy and know that even in some weird stranger’s dream, you are, in reality, a happy, gracious woman.
(I hope you aren’t weirded out. I guess I look at blogs too much. This just adds to my husband’s arsenal of reasons I should stop looking at blogs. šŸ˜‰ haha)

kristen - i’m loving your hair cut!

angela - Some days are better than others..that’s for sure. Nothing use to get me down like fights with my teenagers. Tomorrow brings a new day and before you know it, they are getting married. Enjoy today…your boots…and your CUTE hair cut. It looks great by the way!

Lori - My best friend and I go away for a weekend twice a year. We both experience what we refer to as “re-entry” when we get home. Always rough.
Your haircut is the cutest!! And I love that long sweater.
The antique store looks like lots of fun. Glad you were able to get away. Even with “re-entry” it’s worth it to recharge the batteries!

Jody - Oh the day after coming home from being away – back to life – back to reality (are you singing with me??) is always tough.
Your blog brightens my day considerably (I’m a Mama to 4 boys 4 & under – yep – I have triplets in there!) and your blog reminds me to not get bogged down in the times of drudgery of being home full time & taking care of kids full time. And to enjoy the colors & the simple things in life – because that is where happiness truly lies.

Mary - That is a seriously cute haircut you have, I have to say! Looks like a fabulous time! Next time I’m passin’ thru Omaha…I’m stopping in! ;o) ~mary~

Miranda - So true that lows follow highs…such a bummer. But at least we all have lovely pictures on our favorite blogs to swoon over and brighten our moods! Loved this post…those yellow broaches, I could just die!

Jess - Truthfulness is why so many of us love your blog. Antique stores always brighten a day! My mom still has that set of green suitcases! And I spied your new do….super cute. And love, love, love the boots. I’m makin’ soup tonight.

Julia - I got to the tray of yellow pins and thought…WOAH MOMMA! I wish we had stores like that in SoFla. Love your boots. Umm…just curious, how much were they…you know, it’s so much more fun to go virtual shopping when you know the prices.

steph tucker - And this is what makes your blog so wonderful to read….truthfulness, reality and a willingness to be vulnerable. I think we all want people to think that we live only in the happiness high (at least I do) and the reality is, if we are human, we can’t live there all the time. šŸ™‚ But it sure is a nice ride when we’re there for a little bit. Have a good day Meg. Thank you for your honesty.

Ruth - I have to tell you, I used your instructions for Rainbow Cupcakes to make red/yellow/blue cupcakes for the children at church, yesterday. They were a BIG hit, with children and adults. The frosting was fantastic, too. I was a little worried about the mess they would make but there was not a crumb left on the floor! I swear, the children inhaled the cupcakes. My own three are begging for more….in Christmas colors, school colors, Colts’colors, Valentine colors, etc. Thank you!!!

yes….i am talking about water again.
today is the day where bloggers everywhere are joining together in a campaign to
buy water for christmas.

4500 mothers bury their children EVERY DAY due to contaminated water.
the lack of access to clean water is the leading cause of death in underdeveloped nations.
and it doesn't have to be.

as we get ready to rush through department stores and browse through catalogs searching
for the perfect presents….lets pause for a moment.
let's PAUSE.
today…November 13…lets buy clean water.
clean life saving water.

$10 will provide one person in africa clean water for $10 years.
your money can change and possibly save someone's life.
a real life.

Ethio03 Ethio45

let's do this together.
one day.
$10
let water be the first gift you buy this christmas.

just think….if all the "whatever readers" gave $10 (you are free to give more if you'd like…)
we could raise enough to build a well TODAY.
i know how many of you there are…and we could do it!
a village could be changed because you read a blog that encouraged you to give…and you did.
that's awesome!

$10
that is 2 starbucks coffees
it's on CD on itunes
it's a pizza
one movie ticket
less than one container of detergent!
$10 can change someone's life.

princesslasertron - I just wanna say I love you Meg! I’m so glad I got to meet you and I had fun in the one class I took with you. šŸ™‚ I love the bird you made.
And when I get on Martha, I know who to call for advice and her name is Penelope.

Christina - Oh! I wish I had seen this earlier…in order to blog about it. Not that I have the amount of readers that other blogs have, but…well, I’m glad to know about it, anyway.

Carol S. - follow your blog, saw this a couple days ago, thought hmmmm, I should do this. Didn’t. Went to church today and was reminded “food for the hungry and water for the thirsty” and thought, hmmm, I AM doing this today. Thanks for having this link for this worthy cause. Just did it, so again, thank you.

Jamie - Thanks for your comment on my blog. That would be soooo cool if you got to go to Africa next year! It seems like a great organization. Thanks, again, for making me aware of it!
To answer your question…yes! We are 6 sisters & 2 sis-in-laws & my mom. There are 8 kids in my family. I fall right in the middle. I love it!

No.17CherryTreeLane - this is an amazing chance to do something beyond ourselves and our families. to reach others.
thanks Meg.

Candace - Donated. Then posted to pass along. Can’t wait to put a bug in my principal’s ear on Monday for a schoolwide Christmas project.

misty - here’s an update~ my family (everyone combined: $200) my work put out a jar and employees donated also ($98 just tonight and will leave it out for the weekend) church hasn’t given me an update yet & we just made flyers to hand out at the bubble town car wash tomorrow and a local cafe is selling their water all day sat and sun instead of Free water (its the same price as tea) and donating all of it to. your blog inspired my community. thank you!

Deb - My sweet 8 year old donated her birthday party with her friends to this charity. (Of course we bought her presents) We asked each child to bring 8 dollars. She raised over 200 dollars. Then from facebook friends she make another 200. That brings the grand total to $429.00. That will assist in building a well and will supply 22 people with water for 20 years.
We can learn a lot from an 8 year old.

Nancy M - I sent $10, and posted a link on facebook. I love your blog Meg.

Southern Belle Mama - Thank you so much for posting about such a great cause! This has reminded me about the true meaning and purpose of giving…it should make a difference.

jennifer - Thanks for the reminder. I started my Christmas shopping, added the link to my blog, and now I’m off to facebook it! At least I’m accomplishing something today!

song - Count me in!

J.B. Kinrich - Thank you for posting about this. I donated. And then a moment later, I heard my dog get out of his bed and lap up water from his bowl. *Sigh.* What a strange life, where dogs get all the fresh water they want, and mothers have to watch their babies die from the lack of it.

elizabeth - Thank you for posting this, again. I actually linked it to my blog the other week and purchased the beautiful water drop ornaments.

erin - You inspired me, I am trying to raise enough money to build a well on my blog!

Jaime - Yesterday I was sad over missing out on an offer I put on a house. Today, Iā€™m happy, knowing not only do I have all the fresh water I want, but I am also currently blessed with a wonderful little rental that has sheltered me for 10 years, and will go on doing so. Thank you for gently pointing me in a new direction. I signed up for the one year, monthly installments. I am truly fortunate.

Kate - Thank you so much for bringing awareness about this. I will put it on my blog right away.
Blessings,
Kate

Gina - Thank you. Thank you for making me aware of this. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to give and serve.
My husband and I have three small children and from the beginning we’ve struggled with how to teach them the REAL meaning of Christmas and to not simply give them more things they don’t need. This year they’re getting a globe, shirts from Water4Christmas and glasses of dirty water so they can realize how their Christmas presents served children in another country. Thank you for giving me this chance to teach my children to have servant’s hearts.

pve - thanks for sharing this. wonderful.

Lauren - I gave! My hubby and I have been passionate about the water situation in Africa for a few years now and it feels so good to know that my little bit of money is making an everlasting impact.

jennifer - Donated. Wrote about it on facebook. Moved to tears over how much I take for granted. Water. How much I waste. How much they need. Thank you for being involved in this.

misty - my husband and I both did this & then posted links to your blog on our facebook status updates and I have passed this along to my pastor at church and our youth is working on this as well. I have told everyone I can about this over the last few weeks. I have been so inspired and so moved & feel like I am actually helping a real person. thank you for sharing this with me.

Regina (QueenBeezHive) - I gave! šŸ™‚ I love the fact that 100% of my money “goes straight to the fields” and not to operational costs. Thanks for sharing this. Have a great time at Silver Bella! I’m so jealous, so now I shall go pray for forgiveness. šŸ˜‰

Sarah M - If it wasn’t for your blog I wouldn’t have know about this. It wasn’t the first present, but it was definitely an important one.

Stephanie - Thank you for encouraging me to donate…
It will be the best Christmas present I will give this holiday season.

Maria in CT - It wasn’t my first gift, but it was the first one that I felt really, really good about. Thank you for this public service announcement…it is perfect timing before the start of the holiday season.

Jamie - It wasn’t the first gift I bought this year, but today I bought water. It is such a simple process, the site is wonderful and the outcome can be SO meaningful. Thank you for encouraging myself, and others to give!

carrie - Donated & Blogged about it. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful information and allowing us to help.

Annette - I come to your blog regularly for a bit of brightness and reality…your gift with color always adds a spark to my (ususally) early morning and you make me laugh with your perspective on your life and your family. I appreciate color and the unique “kid-ness” of my kids in different ways after looking through your “frame”.
One of my duaghters came to us through adoption…I cried as I donated this morning…so many people…so many children…thank you for giving me a way to make a difference to those who need it the most.

Don - Well done! Thanks! This is something that most take for granted, but I thank God for. Such a simple thing, and a nice way to teach our children about giving this season!

Kara Hebert - THANK YOU! for giving me the opportunity to donate. GOD is awesome and He is glorified through this.
I love your blog, Meg. I’m not blogging anymore right now (been having a really hard time with my dad’s death) but I still read yours.
Have a wonderful, blessed day.
Your friend in FL,
Kara
