while out walking the dog i caught some of our neighborhood in pictures.
love the black pumpkins this year!

IMG_8466

i stopped by annie's preschool to watch them trick or treat with the grandma and grandpas.
you can't see too well but the sign behind their parade says Friendship Lane.
sweet.

one of the grandpas took out his dentures for the kids.
kristin covered his face with her cape so she could warn the kids what was coming.
they were freaked out…little micah's eyes were huge!

it was hysterical.

IMG_8480

the kid on the far right was a bowl of fruit loops!  very original.

annie wore talby's old pirate costume…with sean's old pirate costume over it.
and a piece from one of my dance costumes from when i was a teenager.
we scored the last pirate hat at target on thursday.

IMG_8566
talby decided to add a wig for a more dramatic effect.
she said "NOW i look like SuperGirl!"
we pieced her costume together out of a shirt and skirt from the thrift store,
some red vinyl and sean's old super man cape.
she loved it.  (thank goodness)
trick or treating was a success.
we can keep our dentists in business another year.
scott was too cool this year to dress up or trick or treat.
that was a bit sad for me…growing up too quick.
but talby did say while chomping on candy "this was the best halloween ever!"
* edited to add….lauren ended up getting grounded before her halloween party.
so we never got to see hannah montana in all her glory.
it was such a bummer.
IMG_8429
and now it's november.
happy birthday jenny.
love you super much.

cheesy potato soup

it was just one of those kind of nights.

the kind where soup is perfect!

IMG_7673

my camera seems a bit off these days.
but it also could be me.
i feel a bit off these days.
(having a teenager will do that to you)

anyway…THE SOUP.
it's not the healthiest…
or organic….
but it's yummy.
and quick and easy.

and i had to mix hash browns AND tator tots.
and i had no fresh onion.
OR bacon.
but my family still loved it.
the recipe is in the sidebar.

IMG_7679

a (blurry) shot of what was going while making this soup last night.
every kid was in the kitchen.
lauren was studying (by force) and everyone else was being quiet.
at least trying to be quiet.
but having everyone is the same room was different.

IMG_7686

while snarfing (is that a word?) this down quickly before church sean asked

"Mom?
HOW do you make this?!
It's soooo good.  Can i have another bowl?"

ummmm….YES!
for anyone who says sweet stuff like that i think 2nd's is a given!

and can you guess what he had for breakfast today?

the office

i am grateful for craig's job.

for many many reasons.
one of the reasons is the family employee party every year!

IMG_6206

IMG_6228

this year's party was at The Alley.
we love this place but as a family of 7 we don't get to come.
we just can't afford it.
but once a year we get to do something really fun with craig's co-workers.
it's so cool to get to say "Yes" to everything for one afternoon.
go-karts? YES!  more tokens? YES! more pop? YES! more go-karts? YES!

IMG_6225

IMG_6230

IMG_6229

IMG_6241

when sean wasn't bowling, eating pizza, getting refills on dr.pepper
or begging to go to the arcade….
he was spinning upside down in the chairs.
even the chairs are fun here!

IMG_6216

daddy the go-kart racing rock star.
"high five me! high five me!" they screamed every single lap.
these are his groupies.

IMG_6251

IMG_6250

big winner on the skee ball game!
even an alarm went off…and tickets just kept pouring out.

IMG_6265

look what 170 tickets can get ya.

IMG_6266

just what every 3 year old needs.
a dollar sign keychain covered in bling.

lauren used all her tickets on plastic necklaces.
(yes she was fully participating with us and we really enjoyed it!)

IMG_6271
she was pretending to be gangsta'.
word.

it was a great time!
can't wait to see what we get to do next time.

i will say again how grateful i am for craig's office
and how well they treat their families.
them's good people.
(that's my kansas hick grammer)

the “an-tick” store

i can get annie to "an-tick" with me…

IMG_5499

because of these.
the best suckers in town are at the antique store we love.

IMG_5498

i should have bought this chair.
it was half off even!
sometimes i go and i find too many good things in one day.
like an old school kitchen aid mixer.

IMG_5492
IMG_5496

or a holder for aluminum foil.

i hadn't seen one of these before.
a place for everything…?

IMG_5486

jenn – i think miss london needs this vintage metal baby bed for her dollies.
it was so sweet and only $20! (metcalf sisters store on the right side)

after 4 suckers…we settled on this bowl

IMG_5658

and this typewriter.

IMG_5526

IMG_5523

i love this typewriter.
annie thought it was a cash register.
when we got home she started playing store with it…
"that will be five dollars please."

then she started hitting the keys.
when i heard that click click click i was taken right back to being 5 years old.
my memory was of the sun register newspaper where my parents worked.
i remember the whole office.
and sitting with sharon hudson.

don't you love when you have one of those moments?
it was such a nice memory.

my big kids thought the typewriter was so funny.
"how did this do what computers do?"
close but not quite.

old friends….

are the best kind of friends.

my best friend and neighbor from my childhood came to visit!

ahhhhhh…it makes my heart so happy and full.

this picture is silly but so perfect of us.

she brought her kids and her husband too whom we also love.

these two are too cute together.

we can’t wait to see “grace from california” again!

our time always goes so quick.

we want to come visit you but driving 5 kids to CA feels more like

possible torture than vacation.

(think national lampoon’s)

but we really do WANT to come.

we were in each other’s weddings.

-i’m sorry about that bride’s maid dress…

we were cheerleaders together.

-the hula bowl in hawaii…state championships in hutchinson…cheer camp!

we went to high school together

-i’m sorry about that time i talked you into skipping school with me…

and these boys were our high school sweethearts.

-double date 16 years ago and prom…i still love that striped dress!

we’ve gone on vacation together.

-you are brave people…no wonder you waited so long to have kids…

great memories.

i loved every minute of your visit tonya!

(except when annie hit your baby in the head with a basketball

and knocked him down and my heart stopped thinking

he would have no teeth when he lifted his head.)

Oh! we should have gotten out my notes from high school!

there’s always next time.

bed head

7:45 AM.

i can hear annie is awake and coming downstairs…
she slowly pushes open the kitchen door.
i quietly say “good morning”
she looks so sleepy.
and then her crackley raspy morning voice says

IMG_4628

“where’s the candy”

ugh.
she had gone to a parade with her nana the night before.
she slept in her clothes.
and she began her morning with 2 suckers.
it’s not worth the fight…
