our neighbor got more chickens.
they are growing and getting bigger out in the barn.
the door is locked to keep them IN so all we can do is look through the window like looking at a baby in the hospital nursery.
but i have been watching what they are doing raising these baby chicks into ladies.

for when we get ours.

this spring? summer?

i hope.

i am not sure i am able to say this…. but i think it will at least help motivate.

it's seven weeks and two days until my Half Marathon.

i went out this morning.

17 mph winds doesn't sound like much.
umm…. YEAH IT IS!

but…. i am so glad i went.

4th snow day!

February 26, 2013

it had started to melt away on sunday evening but another round of storms came through on Monday.
they called off school again.
and for today too!

it snowed all day yesterday.
it began at 11 and just kept coming until evening.

and although the snow days at home are getting a bit challenging for kids stuck inside…
i am still happy for the snow.
it is just too beautiful and special that i can't complain.
we never get snow like this here.

for the most part everyone has found their own things to keep them entertained during our days at home.
there has been a lot of tv, computer games, DS playing but there has also been plenty of drawing, games, writing, playing and crafts.
yesterday while the 142nd Sponge Bob cartoon in the past 6 days was on….
i got out our paints, brushes, papers and filled glasses with water and then said "Let's Paint. Turn it off"

and we did.

if our egg cartons are clean i usually save them for extra eggs from the chickens next door in the summer.
but i saw this idea on pinterest and we went for it.

i showed them to craig and he said "Cool. What are you going to do with them?"
"Nothing. We made them to MAKE them. It's fun. It's relaxing. It's good for ours minds to create."
he stared at me.
then he said "i'm sure glad they have you for the other parent"

BEST COMPLIMENT OF THE WEEK.

Sean moved onto to other things but the girls continued to create.

talby found this sun idea and got busy cutting out words.
it's so bright and colorful.

annie is planning on putting words on her rainbow when it dries completely.

after craig made it home from work, he took the kids to the gym and out to dinner.
without me asking for it!

i needed a break. i'm used to lots of alone time and this five day (now six day!) stretch is wearing me down.
so i got out my sewing machine and turned up michael buble on pandora.
i made bunting for the shop.

the break was awesome.

i kept sewing while mr. duerksen watched the KU game behind with Scott.
i love listening to them watch basketball… so animated!
DRAMA.
it's a bonding experience.
and i love eavesdropping on it.

then last night we got another round of snow.
it's at crazy levels now.
we never miss this much school or get snow like this!

practically buried!
i had to put my behind in the snow to get this shot… it's that deep out there.

this is the view out our front window.
that snowflake talby brought home is about the appropriate size to describe this storm.
oh my goodness…. so much snow.

and now they have all bundled up and headed out to play.
so i guess i will follow for a bit.
and talby just made a strawberry cake that needs frosting.

such a big to do list for the day….. frost a cake AND take pictures? how will i get it all done?

for rewards for good behavior like sharing or listening,
for saying "well done" on a test,
for saying "cheer up"
or just because they are YUMMY.

my personal favorite is the CupCake.
the swirl of white frosting makes me smile.

school lunches at our house have a Hostess treat every time.
the type of snack cake varies, but there is always a sweet treat from Hostess in their lunch box.

when my children come home from school they have reading time, homework time, piano practice
and some basketball time.
somewhere in there my kids have a snack.
they love the days where they get a big glass of cold milk and a yummy Hostess CupCake.

we usually get a little messy when we eat them.

you can't help but smile when you are eating one.

getting the whipped cream in the center is a treat in itself!
talby claims her favorite food in the world to be whipped cream so these goodies are the best!

we eat our snack over homework or while we read books.
they always ask for more.
"just one more pleeeeeeeease!"

it's cool to see my kids enjoying the exact same snack i did when i was a little girl.
there aren't a lot of things in life i can say that about.
they have iPods and DVRs and computers.
they use cell phones and text.
they have handheld video games, electronic books,
light-up scooters and dvd players in the car with wireless headphones.

but when i was seven years old…i ate that same Hostess CupCake after school, sitting by my sister,
laughing at her silly stories and she laughed at mine.
just like my kids are doing today.
that is pretty sweet.

the day before school starts.

it's here.
i made it.
barely.
on friday i had to go sit on the porch just to escape the noise and craziness that is my house.
i thought about crying.
i felt like it.
but i fell asleep instead….in the chair on the porch.
i love being with my kids.
but seriously…….. i. am. losing. my. mind!!

here are some pics of what we did this weekend.

i made waffles for lunch.

waffle made sad faces that said "please cut my hair….pleeeease"

saw a lovely rainbow.
soooo beautiful.

shopped for shoes for all the kids.
oh my.
man shoes are expensive….i liked the kid shoe prices better…..a lot better.

we ate donuts.
to celebrate mom surviving this summer school starting.

i made pam's cheesecake.
twice.
it's so good.
amazing.
i don't think anything tastes better in the world.
have you tried it yet….it's worth it.

there was a lemonade stand in our yard.
it turned into a neighborhood affair.
very fun….and cute.
they were listening to Diary of a Wimpy Kid audio book while waiting for customers.

sometimes there was a long wait between….

AND……i took my mom to see The Help for her birthday!

soooo so good.
GO SEE IT.
you must.

random again.

caught a cold today….really fast….and it's being dumb.
i have not been as sick in years as i have this year.
what gives?!
i have taken nyquil so who knows where this post may go.

i bought four songs today…

Loving wings by dave matthews live at las vegas (i finally found a DMB song that i adore)
Everything by michael buble (it's just so catchy!)
Sort of by Ingrid michaelson (i like the way she says heart in the beginning & the line "my love's too big for you")
and Baby (you've got what it takes) by brook benton & dinah washington

i listened to it 8 times.

i had a nightmare that the SUMMER magazine came in the mail and it was beautiful.
then i got to my article and all the pictures were awful and so dark you couldn't even see what was it them.
not a good night's sleep.

i packaged and taped all the prints to be shipped out.
makes me happy to know that so many homes will have more rainbows. :)

i watched EAT PRAY LOVE while packaging things this past week.
i remembered my favorite line from the first time around

"ruin is a gift"

i am dreaming about having a week in my home alone.
or alone with just craig.
nothing that has to be done but just enjoying my home….having some quiet….

it sounds DREAMY.

maybe this summer i can work that out.
