if you are a mom you may understand this post.
you know the feeling of clausterphobia? or overstimulated? or exhausted? that’s what i am feeling.
the feeling of “there is no end in sight”
i love being a mom.
i love being home with my kids.
i love 99% of our days.
but everyone needs a break.
everyone needs a change.
everyone a way to recharge.
the problem with being a mom is there is no boss, no paycheck, no evaluations (that’s good most days), no clocking in and clocking out.
but most of all there are no vacation days.
my husband get holidays off. do i? if i had job i would have these days off but they wouldn’t be off they would ON – mommy duty.
when you are at work you have decent hours – not 18 hour shifts of “mooooommmmmmyyyy!!”
Or if we do get a day away….you are paying a sitter so you are watching the clock….just knowing your minutes are precious.
or if your husband stays home so you can go out he will be tired and grumpy from doing “your job” all day.
as moms we keep this “mom guilt” with us all the time. sometimes it is so quiet we can ignore the voice and have fun…like at scrapbooking weekend. but even then we all agreed it took the entire first day for us to relax and realize we were off duty. we can let our guard down then.
AND on our days off we get to do fun stuff like bra shopping or swimsuit torture.
i know one answer to my problem is that the time needs to be scheduled and regular.
being pro-active.
and then that scheduled time needs to be honored by everyone. everyone needs to agree that mom needs space. i would love to hear my family say “have fun on your day off!” instead of “when are you coming back?!”
everyone wins when this happens. so why don’t we do it?
i know that i chose to have all these crazy kids but this is also one part of being a mom no matter how many kids you have – learning how to balance without crashing.
i know that i am not saying anything that hasn’t been said a million times but today it is driving me crazy.
i wasn’t even going to post because i am so grumpy but i thought i want to remember this…i want this to change so if i look back in a year and it’s still like this then there is a big problem – and that would be ME.

see i have bad days too.

Leah - Another SAHM here, and I hear ya sista! I can tell when my temper and patience gets short, that it is time for a break! Not that I ever really get one though, I know just what you mean!

kristin - oh my, oh my, oh my…i know, i know, i know…sunday nite i wondered what i would possibly do all day with my kids so that at the end of the day i felt balanced…not easy…one of my mantras continues to be THIS IS THE LIFE I HAVE CHOSEN…but oh, i wait, wait, wait for bedtime to come when it will get QUIET…and here i am!
i just read what i wrote and i think i am watching too many eloise movies…i sound like nanny who repeats herself three times when she really means it…or maybe i am used to having to say things three times before i am heard!

traci - When I read your blog I just had to take a deep breath. I to am a stay at home mom. Well, I have a part time job but its a job that allows me to take my kids with me so even that doesn’t give me a break. lol.
Anyhow…I have been married for 10 yrs., went into the marriage with a stepson and in one yr. adopted 2 little girls that were under a yr. Talk about a FAST family but talk about BLISSFULLY happy!!! Tonight my husband is taking all 3 kids to spend a month with the grandparent for the first time and I am having anxiety thru the roof!!!! I dont have to hear arguments, complaints, groans, tattles or any negativity. I can do as I please, when I please for the first time in TEN YEARS but I am filled with anxiety at my kids being gone soooooo long and the house being quiet. SO, when as a mom are we happy? lol.
This is probably a way bigger response than you expected for having a bad day but it just made me giggle since I am getting ready to have major freedom and filled with anxiety and ready to well up with tears and they arent even gone yet!!!!

soapy

Img_2434_2
Img_2442_2
Img_2435_4the weather is so nice.
it feels so good to be outside.
we were all out last night…
playing catch
jumping on the trampoline
riding bikes
hanging out with neighbors
and making huge bubbles
i just love bubbles.
easy entertainment
i love the action shot of annie with her hair flying in the air.
and craig in the background of the face shot – he’s just about to throw a fly ball.

we are setting up the big pop-up pool right now.
then the real summer fun begins.

kristin - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…we need to get together for some bubble play…not much makes me happier… : )

smile

Img_2221_4Img_2228Img_2367
Img_2383_2Img_2393Img_2375_2even though today was a sad day
i wanted to put some things on that were making me smile.

*starbucks venti carmel macchiato

*new CD – all french music…i don’t know any french but i have always liked french sounding music. there it was at starbucks…i used my happy pass (did i use that term correctly jana?) and bought it. it’s so much fun…just the case itself is so french and flowery and the CD is pink…it was meant for me

*a few weeks ago i walked into Michaels crafts store…it had been awhile…there in the front row…the first thing you see…martha stewart crafts floor to ceiling end to end…it was so beautiful. i had to stop and have a moment. i am not a martha worshiper but that girl has got IT! it was so perfectly displayed, coordinated and marketed. i wanted it all…seriously. i didn’t yet. it’s not outrageously priced either. it’s about time martha!

*smoothies…all the time..frozen blueberries make it so good.

*tea parties in the dining room

*new flowers in the garden are blooming…yellow echinacea

*ponytails on annie….she rarely allows this…but look how cute!

*also my white sharpie pen is making me very happy

*new “radio station” on the internet at www.Pandora.com…it only plays what you like…it’s genius…if you wanted it could be all barry manilow all the time…or kool and the gang??? we chose oscar peterson and it feels like we are in maggianos restaurant every night…if i close my eyes and don’t listen to all the screaming kids around me.

*my blog getting 300 hits the day Kim but me on her blog! holy cow.

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - I’m gonna have to try that radio station and I had the same moment when I saw Martha’s display. I’m sure I gasped out loud….but I’m sure they’re used to that.
I’m glad you’re getting hits. 🙂

Sol - Hi, just wanted to stop by and wish you a nice weekend.Surfing the net today, and I found your great blog. So much fun…wondefful photos and lots to read. Take good care.

Img_2253_2
Img_2332_2Img_2333_4Img_2364_2okay just a sampling of the photo album i made on the bottom left of our house.
it’s not everything of course
there is already too much but once i start taking pictures i like them so much i can’t choose.
our dining room is yucky
and the foyer is under construction
so not shown.

enjoy our house.
housing is cheap in kansas
compared to chicago at least.
so all you chicago friends…
check out kansas!
we may be redneck but it’s worth it.

kim are you happy?
full frontal.

melissa @ the inspired room - Ok, sorry, third comment in one day. I am going to look like a stalker. But all I can say is I am moving to Kansas! I guess that is my problem. Living in Portland, Oregon! I am packing my bags for sure!

traci - I have roots in Kansas and housing it alot less. Just curious…you dont live in Leavenworth, Ks do you? The style of house looks very familiar and my extended family is from Leavenworth. By the way…it is an absolute GORGEOUS home!!!! Love your blog

Jen - I just discovered your blog from the creative blog website and all I can say is, hubba hubba! Love your house! I will be back later when I have more time to fully investigate your blog.

Megan/creativeoutletdesigns - Love your kitchen!!! found your blog from Today’s Creative blog! 🙂

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - I am stunned! It’s amazing! I’m ready to move to Kansas!

3 more pages

Img_2308_2
Img_2309_2
Img_2314_23 pages from talby’s book

for many of my pages i look at other people’s pages for ideas and then copy in my own way. so if you happen to see one of your pages on my blog be flattered not mad.
i admit it.
i scrap-lift.
all the time.

don’t forget to check out kim’s blog!
too cool.

and my sister corrected me about kool and the gang.
it was an 8 track player in the boat.
none of us had any 8 tracks so that’s why we listened to that over and over.

there’s a party going
on right here.
a celebration to last
throughout the year
so bring your good times
and your laughter too
we’re gonna celebrate
and party with you
CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES
come on!

hahahahahahaha

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - I am totally going to copy those layouts!

kool and the gang

you have got to love remake albums.
especially dora the explorer ones
more than once i have overheard annie singing to herself
“celebrate good times … come on!”

i can’t help but include my memory of that song.
family friends of ours had a cabin on a lake.
we were in the boat & the tape player only had one tape – kool and the gang. so we listened to that song over and over. i think of that every time for the past 20 years. do you remember that lorel?

we had friends over saturday night.
watermelon margaritas – yum yum.
and we played a game called Marry Date or Dump.
you have to choose from the 3 people on your card
which you would marry
which you would date
and which you would dump.
there are other catagories too.
then everyone tries to guess what you’d pick.
it makes for alot of laughs.
one card was *ben affleck *matt damon *brad pitt
it’s a tough game!
ha ha

note to self … tylenol PM works.
whoa.
talby about gave me a heart attack when she came in at 9:00 this morning!
i was out cold.
i was blessed with a big breakfast of blueberry pancakes!
craig you rock. seriously.
even flowers on the table and placemats.
talby had been busy. . . if only she knew how to make coffee.

then we were off to the zoo.
we only four kids to take – this would be easy.
you know you are a bad mom if your kid says “i don’t feel good” and you say “you are fine. walk faster.” and then 5 minutes later he throws up on the sidewalk.
this is not the first time i have done this to a child either!
don’t worry there is no photo.
poor scott.
we came back home and he fell asleep on the couch.

and last but not least
maybe it should have been first
Kim chose me for a daily entry of her blog!!
we don’t know each other but i found her blog while searching for inspiration (like i do almost everyday)
i sent her a note and right away she picked me.
how cool.
i am a happy girl.
thanks Kim! i love all your fun finds.
check her out.
www.todayscreativeblog.blogspot.com
(i don’t know how to make a link yet and my 12 year old isn’t home to teach me)
i put in on my happy things list to the left – daily inspiration.

talby took this picture a month ago.
she just wanted a turn behind the camera.
there were lots of bad ones of course but this one … i love.
