big day today

IMG_6129

today is our anniversary.
craig told to go back to sleep and he'd walk the dog, feed the kids
and take them to school.
he gets more romantic everyday.
i can't express my love and respect enough….
happy anniversary sweetheart.

our trip was our way of celebrating big and a date will be the small.
a date!
can't wait for that.

also today was annie's first day back to preschool.

IMG_6108

IMG_6115

she picked out a perfect annie outfit.
and added her sparkly shoes.
every single time she puts these on she says sweetly
"thank you so much for buying 'dees mama.
i always wanted 'dees for my birthday."
and i say, "i know.  you're welcome"
and her shirt is a size 24 month dress.

IMG_6113

IMG_6120

i heard them say "i'm the mama. i'm working"
what do you think of that kristin?
pretty cute.

my small taste of freedom begins again today.

Nancy - You’re a good mama for letting Annie wear what SHE picked out! That was always the hardest thing for me, still is sometimes. I always tell the girls that they are a reflection of the family and vice versa.

Kelly - Congratulations! Kelly

traci - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! what a sweet man you have. so hope you enjoyed your day. annie, annie – she makes me smile. what a little doll!! i love her sense of style. enjoy your bits of free time – they are like heaven.

Chaos-Jamie - I KNEW today was something, but I couldn’t put my finger on it! Happy Anniversary. You’re putting all those cynics to shame, sister!

chris - Oh Meg,
I don’t think you should feel too badly , I am in pain , my hips are aching , my shins too , boy I was ,oh scratch that Iam so out of shape , I am feeling enough pain for both of us tonight , off to do my granny walk up to bed , 6:30 am comes too soon , darn early schools. But with my new ipod I will have some groove in my step , you are right I love it already , totally can’t hear anything with the earphones in,awesome, who needs calgon I’ll take pink.
Chris 🙂

Jenn Thomas - Happy Anniversary to two very special people! Thanks so much for the dinner – it was not expected – Russ and I really appreciate it. Hope you have your own party tonight – those are the best 🙂

Sara - Happy Anniversary Meg! Clink! Glug Glug! Smooch! ha ha.

emily - Have a special Anniversary! How exciting!
I have not been here in over a week. Why is that? I’ve missed your blog, and YOU!
I love your lists. I think I need one of those… and the colors are so MEG!
Thanks Meg, for being you!
PS. and I hate expensive antique stores. Poo!

chris - Happy anniversary, how fitting I am going right now to put a post up and there is a picture just for you on it.
Oh the taste of freedom is good one, great oh Annie is so cute , how can you stand it .
Chris

Staci - Happy Anniversary! I love Annie’s little face! Too cute! My Jake’s first day was today and he SCREAMED and CRIED! HELLO? WHAT??? This is the child who could care a less if I leave—EVER! I don’t know WHAT his deal was! Seriously…I didn’t know how to act…neither of my boys have EVER acted like this! Evidently, he calmed down and when I picked him up…he said, “It was GREAT MOMMY!” ????????? Enjoy your date!

Marla - Happy Anniversary!!
I love date nights! Hope y’all have a wonderful time.

cynthia - “working”….does that translate into “bloggin” ?
HA!
happy freedom to you! enjoy!
and happy anniversary too!

mom - Happy Anniversary to you both. Have fun on your date.

Steph @ Problem Solvin Mom - what a precious sweetheart she is!
Happy Anniversary!

Taddie Tales - Wow – what awesome cookie cutters. I would love to find some like those little girls. We could have fun decorating those.
I use too small dresses for shirts all the time. Throw them on with leggins or bloomers. Hey, we need to stretch the life of those clothes as much as possible. We need that extra $$$ for the antique shop.

Leah Schoonover - Happy Anniversary! I hope you guys have a sweet day!

PamperingBeki - Awwww, what a cutie pie!!
Happy anniversary! Enjoy that freedom and think of me, okay? 😉

that girl - Happy Anniversary, we were married in September, too! The 12th will be our 16th anniversary.

amy d - your craig needs to give my craig some anniversary lessons. 🙂 don’t forget to send me over your ikea list!! annie looks very happy to be back with eliza.

susan - Yes, indeed. Happy anniversary!

Aby - Congratulations on your anniversary! What a beautiful picture of the flowers… your husband sounds dreamy.
My girls are in first grade… they’ll be seven in November and today they both have on 24 month stretchy pants… they make PERFECT capris for them!! And they’re different from what everyone else is wearing (we have pretty limited shopping around here so everyone ends up with the same stuff). I LOVE shopping in the toddler section for them! Plus it’s usually cheaper!!
Enjoy your freedom!! 🙂

a rose among thorns - i love that she can pick out her own outfit. i do the same with my kiddos..there are too many to fuss with every single moment, and it makes the secure in themselves…at least that’s my story!
anyway, people constantly stop me and tell my #2 and 3 girls their shoes are on backwards or their dress isn’t tied…and i say, isn’t that great since it’s their own style?

carissa - i’m so glad to see someone else stretches the use of those cute dresses… they DO make perfect baby doll tops! 🙂
yeah for preschool! her face… joy!
AND…
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! love is in the air… do do do do do… love is in the air!

quickly before my bath…

IMG_6059

our little caesar's has this guy
and a kid who dances with a sandwich board that says $5 pizzas.
and my kids looooove them.

IMG_6067

pizza at the park.

IMG_6073

girl time after dance class…
don't tell the boys.

IMG_6074

i WANT.
i want this so badly.
it is perfect for me….other than the price.
IMG_6076

my girls got a kick out of our anitque shop (that we rarely go in.)
they played with a rotary phone.
talby dialed then said "hello.  you must be an old person!" into the receiver.

this store….man it's got issues.
so many great great things but too costly for me.
and i don't like being followed the entire time i shop.
but there is so much i want inside.
i'd even get that huge moose head!(in front of talby)
i'd hang it in the upstairs hallway…just for fun.
(on in a bathroom as a towel hanger?)

IMG_6015

cutest dog toy ever.
it has an empty water bottle inside so it's loud and crinkly.
you can find one here.

ok… i am off to relax in my bath.
(and make lists and think about too much stuff)

Linda@ Restyled Home - That pizza guy reminds me of when I worked at a coffee store, and had to dress like a giant muffin and hold a placard directing people to visit the shop. Only, my face was visible, and I was fifteen!!
Tell your thirteen year old that one…she doesn’t know embarrassment!
Linda

Rachel - I have visited your blog a few times…first time commenting. Just saw your photos…love love your home…such a cozy feeling.

Amanda - It’s so beautiful here!

Lorilee - As always, you’re photos are wonderful! My teenager thinks Little Caesar’s pizza is IT! It gets expensive when he and his friends can each eat their own pizza.
Ahh rotary phones, party lines, now I feel OLD!
Blessings,
Lorilee

carissa - i’m gonna eat your Waffle… sooooo cauuuuute!
that sign… get it girl! 🙂 you need that sign… WAIT… i want that sign… where is it? 🙂
i bought an old rotary phone on our last antique outing… got home… plugged it in… would you believe it WORKS! we love it! fun phone… brings the good
‘ol days back!

Christine - Okay. I only skimmed your post, but I totally know the antique store of which you speak. Chris and I ADORE this store, but rarely go in there because of the non-negotiable prices and the lurking/following.

traci - that sign is great!! would look fantastic in your kitchen. your puppy is just the cutest. i want him.

chris - Yes how much is the sign, I love it too , it is always interesting to see what is too much for one compaired to another.
Love the dog toy my dog would love one a 10 of those.
Chris
PS got kids into school today and worked out first thing , now I just need to keep and make this a routine.

mom - What’s up with only 1 comment? How much is that sign? Maybe you need it for your birthday?

PamperingBeki - I have never seen that Little Caesar’s guy!
I’ve only seen the hilarious boy listening to his iPod and dancing like crazy. Hysterical.

lazy sunday

up early to walk the puppy.
late church service.
subway for lunch.
craig packed all the kids up and went to see his dad.
i put on my iPod and danced and sang and sewed.
(thanks for the inspiration crystal)

IMG_6093

how good it feels to have a quiet house.
(notice i didn't say a clean house?)

and just for laughs.
i think it's funny…maybe you don't.
here's the real lazy sunday.

then on a totally different subject…

IMG_5616

hey lorel – i saw this picture today and it mad me miss you so much!
i miss my big sister.
if i could i would give you big hug.
and shout "BEER ME!"
or "nice shlacks and a nice blouse"
or "augh…my nails!"
i had better call you.  or you call me.
love ya.

susan - Pretty much my favorite clip from recent years!
Mr. Pibb and Red Vines equals crazy delicious
You can call us Aaron Burr from the way we’re dropping Hamiltons

Amanda Jo - I LOOOOVE Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell! I am a H.U.G.E. SNL fan! I really wish Chris were still on there, he was one of the best cast members of the last 10 years. I say that in all seriousness.
I’m glad you had a nice, relaxing Sunday!!

princess lasertron - let’s hit up yahoo maps to find the dopest route!
I prefer mapquest–
that’s a good one too–
google maps is the best.
true that.
DOUBLE TRUE!
every time we get directions online to go somewhere, my husband and I have this interchange.
totally cute pillow!!

Chaos-Jamie - How about:
HEY LADY WIT DA WEAVE!

mallory Heffronm - Enjoy you day of quite,,,, I had that yesterday, too. Hubby took the boys to our high school game and then drove to Austin to the UT game. Love it, they got home at 11:30…
How is that puppy

lorel - Hey, I never noticed Mr. Grumpy in that photo before Queenie. Very funny!
I have been missing you too. I am going to call right now…

traci - i love lazy sundays, but yesterday wasn’t one of them for me. great snl clip – hadn’t seen that one. i can’t wait for the new season to begin.

Michelle - my goodness girl you are good! love those pillows… i can’t wait to see them all put together. i also love your list and how motivated you always are. thanks for another inspiring morning! : )

Lanny Stanard - Good Morning! Thanks for sharing, hope all is well, enjoy you Monday!
Lanny:o)

cjs - the killers rock.
so do your pillows.

Mamazboyz - Oh..You and your sister so sweet together!!! Nothing better than a love of a sister…I love your sewing projects..You’re so amazingly talented, you’re an inspiration to many!!! I love Sundays!! I think my favorite day of the week and today is like we get an “extra” Sunday…yeah!!!

crystal - I’m assuming those are the pillows for the playroom – I love them !!!! I keep saying the I’m going to learn to sew. I’ve even asked for a sewing machine a few times for like Christmas or my birthday but backed out at the last minute. Afraid I’ll break it. Maybe this will be year I’ll get it for Christmas.

Sandra - The video was hilarious! And darling picture and quotes regarding your sister.

Jenn Thomas - Even though you litterly just left my house I had to check out the blog since I have been gone. Waffle is cuter than cute (can’t wait to meet him) talby is the sweetest with that card and I just love those pillows. . . . very creative idea – actually I would love some for London and Kassade’s room. If you need another photo opportunity – London is taking swimming lessons and would love to have some pictures of that. Great pictures of the Jost family!!

Staci - Ohhhh! I can’t wait to see what you’ve been a sewin’! That is one of my New Year’s Resolutions (every year!)…to learn to sew! I love it that you love your sister so much! Hope you had a happy day lovin on your new puppy!

Queenie Bee - Cute shot of you and your sister. I especially love the face on “mr grumpy” in the background. (white t-shirt) Yea, he seemed to have been having a great day, huh?

Crystal - Those are so cute!!!! Way cuter than my pillows…now you can check them off the list. 🙂 I love lazy sundays…we had subway for lunch too…I’ll keep you posted on that Target. 🙂

new list

the summer list was almost completed.
no horse, no teaching lauren to drive, no new recipes…
but summer is over.

IMG_5469

so i made a new list.
it's all mine.

IMG_5764

every room has it's own color
and each project i want to finish.
with room at the bottom to add stuff i think of later.

with the kids at school i am trying to be productive and creative.
trying…
and this list has already helped me so much!

and i can never say "i have nothing to do"
not that i have said that in the past 5 years…but if i thought of saying it.
i can't.
it's all here in rainbow color.

now i am going to make some pillows.

robin bird - wow. very , very impressive. you are my role model for household projects. will you teach me to make/remake lampshades? i would love to do that with a little lamp in my kitchen that i love.
meg is that your cereal bowl?
XO

Jen - You go girl!

Nancy - Man, that looks ambitious but I do the same thing. Make a list and have it accessible so I know what I need to do.

Allikayes Mama - Making Talby a tent!? Yes! Please show how you do this – I am thinking a tent for Allikaye is in y future!!

shiela - i enjoy your blog a lot…very FUN & inspiring! thanks for sharing so much of your talent.

Deb - Oh, I made a list similar to this, but more out of Autumn Nesting than free time. See, this is the time of year I get busy, teaching 4 children. WooHOo!

Andrea - That is about the cutest dog EVER!

traci - love your list idea. i need to do that. seeing it everyday, might make me work on things more. good luck with yours. you’ll be crossing things off before you know it.

Nichole - You do realize that you are my hero.
For two reasons:
1) You make lists like I do
2) You make that list in Crayola Markers
There would be a 3rd if and ONLY if those markers were scented.
:]

lee ann - I need to copy a list like this too (the summer one was fun). I’m the kind of person who “freezes” when there is so much to do and instead I sit on the couch and eat 🙂
Maybe I should get up RIGHT NOW and hang some pictures on these bare rental house walls.

Chaos-Jamie - I planned to make a list like this for the school year and Brent nixed it. I KNEW it wasn’t a dumb idea! (Though I will admit yours is MUCH more creative that mine would have been.)

PamperingBeki - ummmmm… yeah….
I’m going to need you to go ahead, and ummmm, stop making me feel like a slacker.
mkay?
😉

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Whew! I’m tired just reading your list! But I can’t wait to see pictures of your completed projects! In fact, I first stumbled upon your blog when someone linked to your post of curtains made out of an old bedspread and some other material! Love your decorating ideas!!!

sara - lol. thats like my cleaning list! I have to list everything I need to do room by room or I get scatter brain and just stay in one room!!! Great list! Good luck!!! =]

Crystal - thanks for another grEAT idea!! We loved having a summer list…i am SURE that doug will equally love a to-do list. 🙂

new adventure (not puppy related)

IMG_6005

but quickly for those of you who asked –

waffle is a golden doodle – half golden retriever half poodle.

he is a boy.
he is wonderful.
i love him.
i have a new baby to take care of!
since i can't have a real baby….
believe me i have asked for that too.
but craig is really ice cold on that….frozen you could say.

but enough about puppies for now.
let me tell about my new adventure that i may take.

i told some friends recently
that i was thinking about photography more seriously.
like as a J.O.B.
(scary scary thought)
they said "yes yes yes DO IT!"
then i asked if i could practice on them.
they said "yes yes yes DO IT!"
(also very scary)
they made me feel so good and warm and fuzzy.
i have good friends.

so here are my first guinea pigs…(so to speak)

IMG_5561

IMG_5606

IMG_5547
he left for college 2 days later.

IMG_5534

IMG_5639

IMG_5560
they should be in a band and use this for their album cover.
(or whatever people call them now that we don't have records.)

IMG_5615

IMG_5627
my favorite.

it was fun.
i learned a lot just from my first try.
thank you gb and roger and kids.

one last thing…look what claire almost touched during pictures!

IMG_5620

seriously.
i was uncomfortable knowing this spider was in the same town as me.
it was the biggest spider i have ever seen.
HUGE.
it looked like what you see in museums.
and i think that's where it should go.
far far away….and dead.
{{{{yuck.}}}}

melissa @ the inspired room - Oh my gosh, Waffle is adorable!! Love his furry face!!! We got a puppy after our two girls because my hubby said no more babies. But, now, thanks to hubby who changed his mind, we have a son who is not a dog. 🙂
Waffle is too cute!

melissa @ the inspired room - Friend, I am thrilled you are considering this. You are gifted at not only the skill of photography but even more importantly, you see the joy in life. That is what makes an amazing photograph, capturing the beauty of LIVING.
Best to you and I can’t wait to see how God will use your gifts, talents and passions!!!
xo

robin bird - i am clap happy glad i went a little farther back on your blog to see this new career move. and the new addition to the fam. waffle!! yeah waffle yeah craig! you are sooooo talented. your personality just shines with your photography. you will be brilliant at this!! a real live photographer. see the thing is meg…..you have been one all along. people will be happy when you photograph them. i’m just sure you are a real card in true life. yo uwill make babies and old men alike laugh out loud 🙂
XOX

Melanie - That huge black and yellow spider? We have those in our area too (northern IL). Believe it or not, it is just a common “garden spider”. But they sure are huge and gross, aren’t they?! *shudder*

Jennifer P. - I say yes, yes, go for it too! You have made the most mundane things look beautiful with that camera of yours, and I can only imagine how great you would make not-so-mundane people look!
Can’t wait to see where this takes you :)!

Stephanie - I did photography as a job for years – weddings, senior portraits, family portraits, etc. Do you know it took all the joy away and I stopped taking pictures of my family for years. I just recently took it up again and that is when I started blogging. You have a beautiful talent, but do pray seriously before you make the final plunge!

Jen CD - Fabulous job! You can literally SEE the love….we would be happy to be practice subjects sometime!

Lisa - Congratulations on getting Waffle. One of my friends in high school had a black full size poodle, his name was Shadow and he was the most gentle animal I ever met (and at the time I was scared of dogs). I look forward to hearing what funny stories come about between Waffle and Annie.
Good luck with the photo taking. It’s always nice to use your talents towards making others happy. I’m sure many people will have fond memories captured by you and your lens.
Take care,
Lisa

Suzanne - GO FOR IT!! you will be, ‘cuz you already are, FABuLOUS!!

Crystal - I think it is pretty obvious that you are fabulous at it…when Doug and I buy the house that’s for sale on your street and we can be friends in real life, you can be our official family photographer. 🙂

Kelly - your favorite shot is my favorite of them too! So wonderful! Kelly

Munchkins and Music - That spider looks scary!

katie - how exciting!!!!
can’t wait to see all your new adventures in photography, you’re really good at it…really!

Liz - No question about it. Do it. But PLEASE don’t ditch the blog!

carissa - you go girl… you have built in… natural… unbelievable talent!
such an eye! a real gift!
your first “official” pics are great… oF cOurSe!
that Waffle… so precious!
i researched for an entire year… ready to have a labradoodle puppy shipped from Australia… i was completely obsessed… had to have her… had gone cuckoo!
we went in a sLiGhtLy different direction with our three pound yorkie! my husband is ready for a new puppy! not yet… but when we do tkae the leap… i want a Waffle! 🙂

chris - ALL your photos are wonderful you have a talent, I do not have such a talent don’t mistaken that , you would be wonderful to work with .
OK that spider is too creepy I can’t stand it …
Chris

Tiffany Hunt - hee hee. We aren’t keen on spiders here at my house either especially after knowing that black widows are extremely common. The only type of spider we look forward to watching is the kind in your photo which is a writing spider like Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web. They eat their web every night and re-spin a new one, always with an amazing Z formation through the middle of it. We have them all around our yard. We had one build her web on our back french door a few years ago and the girls insisted on getting up in the middle of the night every night so they could watch her weave her new masterpiece. It was amazing to watch. Unfortunately, a bird saw her and she disappeared. But normally, we prefer spiders as far away from us as possible.

cjs - “…frozen you could say…” oh, I am laughing.
kudos on the photography venture.
go for it. the stuff on your blog is already worthy of awards.

janice - Thank you for your beautiful posts. I was wondering if you could send me the link to the wall of amazing photography (12 photos framed in IKEA clip frames). I see you do not have it listed in your “happy things” section any longer. I truly enjoy your heart for family and friends.
PS: You are very gifted in photography. <><

traci - yes, yes, yes – YOU SHOULD DO IT!!! you have a wonderful eye and would make so many families extremely happy!! go for it meg. i have been thinking the same thing lately – in answer to that “what do i want to be when i grow up” question.

Jen - Did you kill it?????
Did you know that you and your blog alone has not only inspired me to get an SLR? But also to take a photography class? Your blog stands out because of your photography! Oh, and your cute family too!

amy j. - Oh, Meg… those are perfect! The pictures of the kids each captures their personalities so well (or what I know of their personalities from their Momma’s stories about them!) 🙂 The one of Roger and GB is awesome and the foot picture… I love how you can only see GB’s smile.
I can’t wait to be guinea pigs for you over here!

Nichole - That puppy is adorable! I bet the kids are happy!
And yes…yes…dear LORD yes! Start taking pictures as a career. You will love it because it’s something you’re passionate about, AND you get to flex your super strong creativity muscle!
P.S. Just looking at the picture of a spider gave me the shivers. *shudders*

amy d - i think you should also do pet photography as well, put miley on your list please 🙂 GO FOR IT!

chickadee@afamiliarpath - i love that spider! we had one like that last year that stayed for a while and she was so much fun to photograph!

southernseven - Well, when are you comin to Alabama
With a camera on your knee
Comin from ol Kansas,
My true love for to see(thats me)
It rained all night
The day I left
The weather it was dry
The sun so hot,
I froze to death
Southernseven, don’t you cry
Oh, Southernseven,
Oh don’t you cry for me
For I come to Alabama
With my camera on my knee
I had a dream the other night
When everything was still
I thought I saw Southernseven
A-coming down the hill
The buckwheat cake
Was in her mouth
The tear was
In her eye
Says I, I’m coming from the midwest
Southernseven, don’t you cry
Oh, Southernseven,
Oh don’t you cry for me
For I come to Alabama
With my camera on my knee
How’d ja like that?

Pam - without a doubt one of the things that draws me to your blog (besides your utter cuteness) is your fantastic eye and photographic talent. sometimes i wonder how you take such amazing shots…all with feeling and great lighting. i’m glad you have your camera listed on your blog…i’ve checked it out on amazon…maybe a happy b’day present to me 🙂 you’ve got the gift girl now go for it!!!
ps…if i were even a day closer to being in your area i’d hire you to take shots of my giries! xo

mom - You know that we are behind you. Your photography is fabulous. You CAN do it!

Bethany - Hey Meg!! I am SO right there with you in exploring the whole photography thing…on a professional level! In fact, I just blogged about it yesterday! I say GO FOR IT sister!! You take amazing pics!!
Thanks for sharing and good luck!!

Ashley - Yes, your photography is beautiful! You even make the spider look good – scary good. Or just scary. Eek!

jerusalem - Great pics! I think the “album” cover would actually look great on their MySpace and FaceBook Band pages. I think that is what all the kids are doing these days…I think.
The doodle is adorable. I want one please.

Nancy - Fabulous photos! I realize good subjects are important but the photographer is more important. You did a great job! Keep practicing. Maybe I’ll have to book an appointment with you for our family. I have been wanting to do family photos (it’s been 6+ years since our last ones) and I’d be more than willing to be subjects for you. Maybe we could meet half-way; Chase Co.??? Seriously, we could make this work for both of us. Let me know what you think and give me some pricing info.

lee ann - You are so talented Meg! You shouldn’t even hesitate about it. My husband reads three blogs and yours is one. He loves your artistic style. you got it girl, now go for it!
Oh, and maybe I should get a dog because I so NEED a baby! Hubby says no but it’s driving me crazy!

Sandra - Great pictures — especially the laughing couple. And the spider — icky but BEAUTIFUL! Incredible colors on him.

Aby - GREAT pics! Like always! I wish we were closer.. I’d hire you!! Good luck with your new J.O.B. You’re going to R.O.C.K.!

PamperingBeki - Hahaha!! As I was scrolling down I thought, “I’ll have to leave a comment that I don’t know those people…”. And then I reached the bottom picture and realized I DO know those people!! What adorable pictures. I’ve never met their kids before.
You did a great job.
I *almost* asked you to do pictures for the Mary Engelbreit ad I have coming in a couple weeks. But I’d just started stalking you… err MET you, so I was too timid to ask. I ended up doing them myself, but I knew you’d do a great job!

Leslie - I would totally pay you to take our pictures, if you lived in Texas, or I lived in Kansas.
We have a labradoodle and she is the absolute best dog. I thought yours was a goldendoodle…fun!

Leah Schoonover - Totally go for it Meg! You take great pictures (part of why your blog is so fun)! When you get famous just dont forget all of us that love your blog! I’m getting my own blog soon and will link you to it! Hope your having a great day!

traci - First of all… You get into photography is a no brainer. You not only have a fabulous camera but you have something even MORE important…THE EYE. You really know what works and doesnt. The pictures are amazing.
Im glad waffle is working out. As for a real baby…HA, you werent planning your youngest one and could you all even invision ONE day without her??? If you had another it would be the same way.

IMG_5871

but i have a big support group…shana, gb, amy, carrie, amy to begin with.
and a kennel….thanks seth.

craig is the best.
such an awesome husband and daddy.
my friends even thought it was romantic to hear he brought home a kennel
after the ice cold post.
not the flowers and candle kind of romantic…but still sweet.
talby said it perfectly in her card to her daddy tonight.

Sc00fe77a703

and this picture!

Sc00fe77a703_2

waffle's body is a box of "homestile" waffles.
this is so awesome!!!

IMG_5896

thank you shana, brian, jase and kate.
thank you craig.

wish me luck.
i have clearly lost my mind.

Natasha - I was considering getting a dog just yesterday. Now I know I’m not ready. I forgot about the destructive phase. So couldn’t handle that.

Brooke - He is simply adorable!
Way to go Mr. Ice Cold!

Stacie - What a CUTE doggie!!!! My “puppy” will be 14 years old in January. I got Kiki when she was just a few months old and she’s been the best ever since . . . with the exception of the brand new kitchen table set she left her mark on all over!!
Good luck and can’t wait to read about your new adventures!!

katie - hahahah! laughing at above comment! does someone drink a lot of diet pepsi??
animals bring families together. i can’t imagine growing up without them!

mrslimestone - Oh, he is so adorable!!! Congrats.

jeanetta - You’re a braver woman than I.
But I must say that last picture you got of him is bursting with personality.

traci - Your kids are definately old enough to care for a dog and I even think kids benefit from having dogs. Kinda like sports teaches so many good things so does having the responsiblity of a dog or any animal for that matter.
Just set up a chart for who takes care of waffle on what days or break it up however it works for your family. If its on a chart they fuss down the road less. Love the name …WAFFLE. Gorgeous dog. Keep us updated. There will be good days and some bad but in the end an animal teaches many great things and can be a great asset to a family.

Jennifer P. - You followed one of the first rules of decorating—-always get a dog that matches the color of your couch :)!
If you’ve raised 5 babies, you’ll get through raising a dog too!
Talby is quite the creative artist!

flutter - You melted mr ice! oh man, look at that FACE!

Waffle - thank you, thank you, thank you, to my “new daddy” for letting me come live with all of you. were gonna have so much FUN!!! i will try my hardest not to chew or pee on anything important, but accidents do happen 🙂 I LOVE my new family and am so glad that my sissy Marley lives across the street, so i can go play with her and her BFF Miley. DOGS RULE, CATS DROOL!! woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof.

Amber - Waffle is one cute pup! What kind of dog is s/he? Good luck with the dog training. You need something to keep you busy while the kids are at school anyway, right?

cjs - you rock.
and now, so does mr. ice cold.
I showed my own mr. ice cold your blog, and also, your mr. ice cold. I said, “see, we could be them. we’ll have a few more babies, get a dog, and you can build me a craft room. what do you think? you can be craig, and I’ll be meg. please, honey?”
I know your life isn’t perfect. still, I’d kind of like to be you.

Bri - oh, yes. As your mom said, DEFINITELY HIDE ALL THE SHOES AND ANYTHING YOU DON’T WANT BITTEN INTO!!!!
They do grow out of this destructive stage – maybe waffle hasn’t begun yet – but it does go away with time!
🙂

Bri - Ha! There goes your calm time now that the kids are in school!!! 🙂
This will be a great experience for all of you. I wish you the best. If you ever have any questions for a fellow dog parent and vet-tech in training, shoot me your questions. I’ll support you however I can!!!!
Enjoy this ride!!!!

Lauren - He’s gorgeous. Those photos made my day 🙂

Melanie - Girl, you’ve got your hands full. Five kids and now a new dog:) I hope you can get him house broken quickly and I hope the newness (as far as the kids) doesn’t wear off quickly either. They are a joy and bring so much pleasure and comfort for families. I have had an indoor dog since my grandmother died (1978) and I am now 40 and my 14 yr. old son has grown up with one. We have a maltipoo that is the smartest dog we have ever had. (he is not my most loved dog that I have ever had, that was a maltese, and she came along before the kid) I got lucky with our dog. He came to us at 7 months old and had been rescued from a puppy mill. I bought him for $300.00 from a guy online (he rescues them) and he was not hard to house break, has never chewed up a thing in our house and I can leave him at home for 8 or 10 hrs. a day and he doesn’t have an accident. (that is only when I have to drive to town and do a lot of shopping etc.)(I am a sahm) The only thing is that they get very attacted to one person and become a ninny baby. I know Waffle got a great home that is full of love and full of fun. You will do fine. (and so will he)

Joni - Welcome Waffle! I can’t wait to hear the posts that he inspires! Good luck!
Smiles,
Joni

Ainslie - I’m right there with you Meg…we’ve just got ourselves a puppy too (about three weeks ago) and I’m seriously wondering what I was thinking. BUT, they are gorgeous and I love the idea of this dog growing up with my children…just need to sort out the toilet training issues!!!!!!!!!

Shanan - What a precious dog! I just love puppies.. You have to tell us what kind Waffle is.

April - Yay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Craig……

Crystal - so sweet and so fun!! 🙂

mallory Heffron - you are going to have so much fun with a new puppy. He is way too cute…

Shana - To everyone who “wants one of their own…” there is one more left! Jack Black! He is just as sweet but not quite as “large” as Waffle.
Regarding “Mr. Ice Cold” I think “Slushy” or “Soft Serve” is more fitting at this point.
Way to go Craig – you are the “best dad ever” – outside the Schmidt house, of course.

kell - you’re crazy! he he he. i’m not a huge dog fan so for me to say that your new dog is so adorable is a big deal. waffle will be so fun for your family!!!
i really want another baby…i might try the ice cold post thing and see what happens!!!
love your blog…you are great!

Jen - OOoooh, he is so cute! I just wanna kiss him up!

mom - What a softie that Mr. Ice Cold turned out to be! But then we’ve always known that. Good luck – and hide the shoes and the home work!
Waffle is adorable.

carissa - yippee for daddy… a really big yippee for mommy… who will i’m sure be doing most of the “training”!
i think it is super! waffle will be a perfect addition to your family! lots of fun! we could not live without a dog in our family… the best!

Sandra - Absolutely darling. There is NOTHING cuter than a puppy!

that girl - What a perfect name! Wish my name was Waffles… or Diet Pepsi

Andrea @ Big Creek Cottage - Your husband is so adorable and sweet…..Waffle is, well, simply cute as he can be……You will be fine….and so will Waffle. Craig, he will love Waffle more than anyone in your home….just wait.

meleea - yeah!!! your family will be so glad you did it. If you do all the hard work now very diligently it will pay off. we have a 11 month old goldendoodle who is amazing! i cannot imagine my life without him – he is a gift from God. Waffle is adorable!

Leah Schoonover - YAY! It will be great for your kids to have a dog! What a nice husband… I knew he couldnt resist forever!

lisa - Sorry about the double post. It seemed to take forever to post my first one so I thought I did something wrong 🙂

lisa - He is adorable! If you have a chance you should read The Monks of New Skete: The Art of Raising a Puppy. It’s a great book and helped us with our german shepherd puppy. Good luck.

lisa - He is adorable! If you have a chance to read up on dogs, I recommend the Monks of New Skete: The Art of Raising a Puppy.
Actually, all of their books are great, but this one helped us when we brought home a german shepherd puppy. Good luck.

Suzanne - precious puppy!!
he/she fits in with your family perfectly already!

Aby - Oh. My. God. That is the CUTEST dog ever!! There’s nothing quite like the unconditional love and devotion of a pet. We could all take lessons! Enjoy!!

Staci - OH YAY!!! I think?? You are excited right?? Oh…I just love him…Waffle…not Craig…although he seems like quite a guy 🙂 I love that he brought home the crate 🙂 I guess he does read your blog 🙂 I love Talby’s piture! What a creative little girl. I can’t wait to hear about all the future “tails” of Waffle. Such a lucky little guy 🙂 Good luck!

princess lasertron - oooooh baby number six!!!
I love dogs. you guys are gonna have a blast with waffle 😀
(my friend has a golden retriever named pancake!)

julie - I love Waffle! What a happy puppy dog for an amazing family. Hooray for Mr. Ice Cold.

Aubrey - But he has such a cute face and will keep your kitchen floor so clean…

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Congratulations Mrs. Convincing!!! Now we’re dying to know all about Waffle! Boy? Girl? What breed?

Holly - Congratulations! Waffle is so adorable and with 5 kids, let’s hope all the work won’t be put on you. Just remember “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” ~ Josh Billings

Holly - Congratulations! I hope, with 5 kids, that they will help you out with the dog. What a cute name, btw, Waffle is so adorable. Remember, “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” ~ Josh Billings

Lee Ann - oh good luck! How fun, exciting and scary. Your kids will always remember this. Glad he warmed up a bit 🙂

jennifer - Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it! Congrats! And remember, it might be hard at first but SO worth it later! Remember this too: We have THREE dogs and that is more than you ever want to get! Two tops. Three way too much!
Smiles!
Jen

Emily - Oh my goodness! Waffle is so adorable! What breed is he? A Golden Retriever mix?
I want him for my own! 🙂

Ashley - Oh, yay!!! I am so excited for you! I went through a struggle to convince my husband to get a dog but now he loves him more than he ever thought he would. It sounds like ‘Mr. Ice Cold’ came around!

Liz - So the ice man melteth! Pooches and families are the perfect combination. You’ll see.

Queenie Bee - Well Gosh-Golly, you finally got him! WAFFLE is such an adorable name! Very soon in life, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without him. He needs his own scrapbook though, and today’s art needs to be the first things in there. Just precious!

Amanda Jo - That dog is SO precious! What kind of dog is he? she? Your husband is a sweet guy! I love Talby’s drawings, those aer so cute!

Tracy, NJ - Meg, I just had to laugh at this story because in my family, it is ME who takes the most convincing when it comes to getting a dog – as it’s usually ME who ends up taking care of it in the end. *lol* Like the previous poster above said, I’m not sure how I stumbled upon your site, but am so happy that I did. I have enjoyed getting to know you and your family and being included in all of your adventures along the way – makes me feel like I’m there with you as I read the stories behind it. I’ve tried actually subscribing to your blog or RSS feed (not sure why it won’t let me though), so I just come back and check it daily. I even went back and read through every single blog you have posted since day 1 and lol at alot of them. Thanks for sharing your day to day life with us – it makes my morning each day I get to work and check out your website first thing just to see what your latest family adventures were the day before. :o) Big Hugs to you and your family!

Bridgette - I LOVE your site. I’m not sure how I stumbled upon it, but I’m glad I did! And what a sweet pea your new puppy is!
Cheers,
Bridgette

PamperingBeki - Bahahaha!!!! That is too funny!
I love it when I get my way. 🙂

Nancy - What a cute dog. And Talby’s card with the ‘homestile’ box o’waffles body was the cutest ever. I bet Waffle & Craig will be best buddies before long. It always happens that way it seems — the one who took the most convincing is the one the pet is the tightest with.

sara - Omgosh! Waffle is soooo cute!!!! Thats kind of like a dog I would like to get!!!! =] So sweet of your hubby to say yes!!! =] And, Oh, Talby’s letter/pictures could make you melt!!! =] Soooo sweet!!! =]

Lanny Stanard - you so won’t be sorry, I love dogs and I love are dog so much, his name is gus, he’s a cockapoo! he’ll be 4 on the 29th. Good luck with your new pup if you every have any Q? just let me know!
LaNnY :o)

traci - oh meg – i am so excited for you and your family. waffle is so cute. he’s going to make a wonderful addition to your family. you’re kids have to be in heaven right now. way to go mr. ice cold!!

dear mr. ice cold,

IMG_5821

are you really really really sure that you want to say no to this?
how?
how can you?
what is inside your heart that makes you not love these puppies?

IMG_5804

i am happy to report that during our day of puppy sitting…
this puppy has done nothing.
she's eaten a little.
played a little.
gone potty outside only.
and slept 90% of the time.

just thought those facts may interest you mr. ice.

oh and one more fact.
there are still two left…a golden one even!

(i love you mr. ice cold.)

Clare - How gorgeous are that puppy’s eyes? My five kids are desperate for a dog – they are wearing my hubby down by shear repetitiveness. At least they are now willing to comprise on just having one or two…at first they all wanted one each! Even i couldn’t handle that.

Aby - You crack me up!

Laura - OH MY! He is . . . beyond adorable!!!

Andrea @ Big Creek Cottage - Meg, this goes out to your normally sweet looking husband! For goodness sakes…..say yes to the adorable golden puppy!!!!!
PS…I too live with a Mr. Ice Cold…..burrrrrrrrr

Jess - too funny! good luck with this one!!! what is it with men and their unwavering decisions!? I would melt in a minute with one puppy kiss! Thanks for the games!!! A great “pick me up” when we were running low on things to do this week…..we are still going strong with summer vacation here in the NorthEast. Glad to see that you are enjoying “back to school” days!

Sandra - When our beloved Akela died last year, we promised ourselves NO MORE PETS! We’re retired now, and want to do some traveling and it’s verrrry expensive to board a dog for a week or two. But, when I saw this face, I thought I could adopt him! So, I’m still a sucker for big puppy-dog eyes and sloppy kisses — good thing I’M not there!

Beth Pierce - I’ve been on vacation and didn’t have the internet while we were gone, so today I caught up on your blogs.
Thanks for making me almost pee on myself with the mini golf one. Your husband wiping his face on that towel…
That’s funny stuff.

danyele - that puppy (and that sweet little cupcake) are toooooo cute! how brave of you!

Ashley - Don’t tell Mr. Ice Cold that the sleeping all the time phase ends and they become rambunctious little puppies. Because that phase is fun, too, but will definitely take some getting used to. That is an adorable little puppy! You need one!

meaghan easterhaus - you probably don’t put these on your blog, but i couldn’t resist giving you a blog award. i love your blog so much!! xoxo

jodi - I’m with you!! And you just can’t compare anything to kids growing up with a “best four-legged friend”. Oh, the memories. Oh, the blog material!!
Jodi

traci - how can you say no to that face. has he thawed at all? what a cute little puppy. how about majority rules?

amanda - And … that dog is so smiling!

amanda - The profile picture of that dog is so sweet!
I hope you get it just so you’ll take more pictures of it and post it on the blog! 🙂

Liz - Oh surely there must be signs of a thaw by now?!

sara - aww! that puppy is adorable! I had a mr. ice cold for a while on me getting a kitten…. after playing around with the idea, and coming across a very malnurished kitten, I have one! lol She’s been mine for almost a year now!!!! Good luck on the puppy!!!! Thats my next adventure after we move!!

Staci - I hope Mr. Ice Cold reads your blog 🙂 NO WAY can he say no to that!! Good luck!

amy d - thats funny that your mom commented that she looks like seton, i told corey and amy that marley looks like buttons. tell your mom she needs to bring down seton for a visit (for me) since i am missing buttons. i predict that
mr. ice will soon melt 🙂

Julie K. - You are just brutal. No mercy! You are hilarious.

cynthia - i live with a mr. ice cold too…

Stephanie - I think I am going to make your chicken and biscuits tonight. It looks nice and easy and I think the kids will eat it 🙂

traci - very creative…I love the Mr. Ice Cold
I thought at first you named the puppy that and couldnt figure out why…then I realize you were talking to you sweet hubby….LOVE IT

mom - AWWW-He looks like Seton. Hey Mr. Ice Man – good luck!

lee ann - Meg, that is hilarious! I hope it works!

Leah Schoonover - HAHA…love it! How can he resist all of you girls?

Dana D @ BoysMyJoys - Ha! Ha! I love the way you work! But I have two words for you, Meg: holes & poop! The grandparents gifted our boys with dachshund puppies a few Christmases ago. The puppies grew up and now live with the grandparents! (Thank heavens!)
All they did was dig holes and poop! (Although they were really, really cute!!!)
Good luck!

Mr. Ice Cold - That’s just not even fair. Conniving women (and girls).

Bethany - This post was WAY too funny!! You have me laughing out loud!! Good luck with your powers of persuasion!!!

chris - Can’t wait to see how this turns out , they got you did they ?
Good luck Meg.
