busy

i don't think that i am actually busy…but i feel a busy-ness in me.

feeling full of thoughts, lists, ideas and projects.
and knowing so much needs to (and i want to) get done in the next few weeks.
IMG_9822

i have been getting crafty.
and it makes me so happy!
what i dread is my poor planning that (may) turn into nasty angry crying crafting….
because i waited too long to get get too much done.
so i have lists going of what i need to do and by when.
i am checking things off little by little.
just trying to avoid my usual christmas eve meltdown.

IMG_9842

and now i am headed out to get some shopping done before black friday.
my husband is a genius!
seriously.
he is so smart.
he found what black friday things he wanted in the preview online.
he went to the store and bought it already.
then he will go back on black friday with his receipt and get the money  back for the sale price.
the store (target….) told him they honor that…even on black friday.
GENIUS!
i never thought of that but why would i?
i like the thrill of the hunt.  I like to shop.
but i am not going into that wild mess this year.
my sister is coming and we are going to just hang out with the kiddos.
and make crafts.

IMG_9832

these crayons are the start of one project…but i can't share what.
but i will say it has me all smiles while i work on it.
color + art + crafting = happy megan

and one more thing…
annie wanted aunt shannon and uncle todd to see her in her fancy new birthday shirt.
IMG_0218
she loves it!

carissa - girl… WHAT you do with those crayons… i can only imagine… you’re the best!

Gini - only you can make a bunch of crayons look so beautiful, fun, inviting….can’t wait to see the project.

Robin Laws - happy thanksgiving you crafty happy girl you!!!
XOXOX

Tausha - so-what are you going to craft!!! I must know. I too have a lot of ideas spinning around in my head-making me feel more busy than I really am!! I think that it’s a holiday thing. I have great ideas of wanting to make christmas a homemade one–I am just not too sure where to start!! So, I want to see your ideas, you know so I can copy!!!

melissa @ the inspired room - I think I might have the same meltdown as we are saying we are moving out of our house (not all of our furniture, but some of the basics) on January 2 and putting our house up for sale. Yeah, great idea! But WHO is going to do all the work necessary to get to that point? I don’t know. Not me. I think they call that denial. And that is why I will have a meltdown.
Annie I love your new shirt! You look so festive and pretty!
And her pose is priceless!! LOL!
xo

Amanda - I love how the kiddies see you have the camera and start tugging on your shirt and saying ,”Mom, mom, mom take one of me! mom, mom, mom , mom…of me! of me!” So you finally change direction and get ready to take a shot of them and they get shy and look away and stand really still and act like they aren’t sure of what to do. Ha! Genius!
Shirt is lovely by the way. And crayons. Well. I like jsut looking at them.
God bless-
Amanda

Kelly - oohhhh! such fun! Have a good time! Kelly

traci - i think i know your very clever idea. but i can’t wait to see it. annie looks so cute in her christmas shirt.

Christy - My guess is big crayons too! Silly me, I never thought about melting them all the same color!
I like Craigs’s wau of thinking, I thought about that too. Haven’t actually executed it yet, but thought about it. 🙂

Becca - Hmmmm…What are you up too with all those crayons>????
Annie’s new shirt is cute, I love snowmen, aren’t they fun??

lee ann - My husband does the same thing Craig did. He already bought me a new washer and dryer for the new house. Last year he did it with a TV. Just make sure you go to the store during the hours the item is on sale!

Ashley - I think I know what you’re doing…. Looks like so much fun but I’ve never done it before. Annie is just cute as a button!

Julie K. - You cannot leave us hanging like that with those gorgeous crayons. I have the same tension of so many ideas so little time. I’m going back to the handmade christmas this year. Last year I got all my shopping done on black friday then felt like I missed out on the whole – ‘joy of making christmas’ feeling. But I’m overwhelmed with all my own ideas! Yikes! Best of luck on your list. Maybe you can post a ‘Christmas Craft Organization’ post and help the rest of us out! :o)

MGF - Sorting your crayons- wow that takes some serious time and some OCD, hahaha
Have fun with your sister.

Aubrey - I think I have a mental illness. It’s where I’m busy in my mind, but my body doesn’t respond, so I only THINK I’m getting so much done, when really things aren’t happening. Then I am so shocked when I discover all this stuff I have do and wonder why I didn’t do it before when it was on the list. I always forget all the little details too. Ironically, I always try to keep it simple, and I never do. Can’t wait to see your project–are you making big crayons like Emily (little momma) did with her boys?

a thorn among roses - i can’t wait! i love making big crayons…i hope to see them soon!

katie - can’t wait to see what you are up to. i decided it is going to be a homemade christmas. me sitting fireside, lit tree, stitching ornaments…hahahahahahahah…..NOT!! i feel your sense of impending busyness.

kristin at prairie daze - oooooo, i have a crayon melting project of my own going…hmmmm. i wonder how they’ll match up.
thanks for yesterday. good times.

Lorelei - I love these pictures of the crayons. Are you going to melt them down? That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw them paperless and naked, in a baking pan. or is it? lol

Rachel - How cute is she!
Happy Thanksgiving

Lorilee - Love the shirt, Annie! Meg, I can’t wait to see what the crayons are for! I know what you mean by Christmas Eve meltdown. Mine usually hits a bit sooner! So many ideas and plans, so little time!
Blessings,
Lorilee

we raked and raked today, clearing the flower beds and the lawn.
there was (is) a mountain of leaves in our driveway…perfect for jumping in.

IMG_0062

i guess annie got too hot and stripped down to her tank top?
meanwhile the rest of us had on coats and gloves…
she's a big goofball.

then it was time for some hot chocolate with whipped cream to warm us all up.
what a perfectly perfect fall day.

tracey - i am smitten by these photos! by your whole entire glorious blog actually! wow!

Liz - I wanna do this too.

Aubrey - Awesome photos Meg. Makes me wish I had $1000 just lying around for a new awesome, FASTER MOVING camera, and then knew how to use it. I take such lame pictures of my kids. Seriously. They’ll think all they did throughout their childhood was sleep in weird places or get into messes or have birthdays where there were cakes, but no proof they blew out the candles, and no proof anyone came to the party. I’ve got to go find a class…and get a job…

Jamie Sampson - these are my favorite. Can you wrap them up in a box and send them my way so I can always remember how happy they made me feel when I looked at them?
You rock!

Anna @ Boogers, Bibs, Books & Bubbles - Meg,
I just love all of your fun photos. I am in the market for a new camera and I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about yours or direct me to a post/site about it. I know that you have a Canon Rebel but that is all that I know. What lense(s) do you have (if any)? Thanks so much!
God bless,
Anna

chris - That looks so fun and crunchy , that must be so fun , my kids don’t feel the cold much either , my 10 yr old is outside shoelling snow with bare legs , what a nut

Lisa - What great family memories, love the pose from Annie a top the stair pillar, looks like she’s about to dive like the olympians 🙂
take care,
Lisa

Realmarce - Amazing photos! I love your blog.

Julie K. - We had the exact same day on Sunday afternoon, complete with hot chocolate … but we did marshmallows. :o)

kasey - darling.

Tracy - Looks like you guys had a great family day of fun! We have a lot of leaves like this in our yard too, but I can’t get my kids (teenagers – enough said) to come play in them with me. Funny, they won’t go sit on Santa’s lap for a family picture either – HA! Oh well… it was fun while it lasted – glad you still have little ones to enjoy all of these fun times with! Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Hugs, Trac~ :O)

Beth - GREAT GREAT FUN FUN photos….too cute !!!!

Rachel - What a great time that looks like…and hot chocolate??? Can I move in?

Aby - So cute and what fun!! I love the one of Waffle looking out the door. I love him!! (I almost called him Bisquit! He looks like that new interactive dog named Bisquit).

princess lasertron - I love fall so much. It’s just the best season (then again I always say whatever season it is is the best season). I think I like the transition periods.
We never rake. I think I will just to have a leaf pile. I miss playing outside now.

sarah - Makes me want to join in!!

traci - my first thought was, it’s that warm where you live? then i noticed talby in the background with her coat on. “Well I’m Hot Blooded” – annies theme song.

Art Cant Hurt - What?! No snow?!
My kids were doing the same thing YOUR kids are doing in these pics yesterday…only in the snow! That’s just depressing!
I’m not ready for snow – just threw out the jack-o-lanterns today because they were a frozen mess! Ackkk!
Enjoy it while you have it! Take care!

Fairly Odd Mother - So glad I found your blog via kirtsy. Your photographs are gorgeous. I love this series! My kids get hot too when playing outside—I’ll be shivering and they’re in t-shirts.

PamperingBeki - Haha! Her tank is even inside out. 😉

Sharla - Totally off topic, but I saw one of your comments on another blog about liking “St. Joe” and I assume you are talking about St. Joe, Florida (not Missouri 🙂 I’m already looking for vacation ideas and wanted to see if you knew of good places to stay there (so I could look online)? We went to Sanibel Island 2 years ago with our young boys and had a great time.

Rach - Ahhhhhhh… I miss Fall. And by that, I mean a TRUE Fall, not the weather that Southern California brings us which is more of a hiccup before the skies open and dump rain on us and Winter is here. Looks like you guys had a perfect day.

Lorilee - Looks like fun except for the raking part! We don’t have leaves in our yard–small trees and one is a live oak! The guys in my family are hot-blooded and don’t get cold very easily!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Amanda - talk about fun! I LOVED getting shots of my kids int he leaves this year… the colors of fall were jsut beautiful and of course, the kids smiles were priceless. The one with annie in her tank gets me though… you will never see that shot in good ole MN! Well. Never mind. You could. We are known as that state where you have to use your AC and heat in the same day.
ANYWHO… great shot. I wouldn’t have minded seeing a picture of hot coco with cream on top though! lol
God bless-
Amanda

Jill - Yes… the perfect fall day!! 🙂 ~Jill

Jill - Yes!! The perfect fall day!! Hot cocoa is the perfect ending… 🙂

Lanny Stanard - Okay, that looks like so much fun! is your youngest hot blooded? Have a great week-end…
Lanny 🙂

callie grayson - awesome day for you and your family!!

Amanda - Is it me or does that child look very….
…wise. Like. Wise. Hum. I dont know how else to describe it.
And adorable. And is this a busniess for you? LOTS of fun pics for us… LOTS of work for you! Well. Unless you are one of those naturally gifted photographers who takes the perfect shot and doesn’t need to spend hours editing like me… just to find the one good shot I took out of 100.
Many blessings-
Amanda

traveling circus

it's taken me all week to write this because part of me wishes i could forget.

it was the trip to end all trips.
(it's a long story but if you read it all you will be laughing (or crying) with me.)
there are pictures at the end…i promise.

***********************************************************************************************

we went to my parents' this past weekend for an early Thanksgiving.
My grandma needed her car there also so she rode with me and craig drove her car.

20 minutes later than scheduled we wrangled everyone into the 2 vehicles.
all the girls (me, my girls, my grandma) in my Suburban.
craig and the boys in grandma's car.
oh yes…and waffle in the kennel in the back with me.

craig and i both get out of our cars twice to run back inside for forgotten things.
we pull out of the driveway…finally.
craig is leading.
we get to the last gas station at the edge of town.
craig pulls over…needs to fix sean's seat belt.
annie says "i have to go to the bath-frroom"
i park and take her inside the lovely gas station bathroom.  talby shows up too.

ok…on the road again.  30 minutes late.
grandma and i chit chat while being constantly interrupted by annie.
constantly!
craig hits his brakes.  i look for deer.
he comes to a stop and pulls over….i almost hit him from the back.
his back door flies open and we get a side view of scott's projectile vomit.
i am shocked.
and of course…like i always do at inappropriate times…i start to laugh.
bad mother.
craig throws his hand up, smiles and shouts "first puke of the day!"
(when someone spills at dinner we (try to) say "first spill of the day!" instead of yell)
i get out and help craig clean things up…as best we can.
the wind was so strong everything was blowing around.
scott changed his clothes and calmed down.
i gave craig my package of baby wipes…just in case.
sean announced "i'm going in mom's car!"

we get back on the road.
veggie tales is crankin' and grandma and i are talking again.
about 10 minutes has gone by…
i smell something.
i ask sean to look at the dog….and oh yes
he has pooped in his kennel and is sliding around in it.
i call craig's cell & he says "i'm going to the station up the road…i'll meet you there."
i am on my own…in the wind…with the poop.
i pulled out his rug and blanket and toss it in the ditch.
goodbye forever winnie the pooh sleeping bag.
lauren is supposed to have waffle and she lets go…
now we have a dog running in the ditch of the highway,
a nicely dressed woman in leopard shoes cleaning up dog poop with notebook paper
and 3 kids shouting "ewwwwwwwww!!!!"
i get it semi-clean and we get back in….
sean announces "i wish i was with Dad now"
and talby shouts "first POOP of the day!"

we meet back up with craig and get the wipes back!
i think for the first time grandma was happy she'd lost her sense of smell.
lauren is dousing our car with her pineapple perfume and it's even worse than before.
i had to just put my nose into my shirt.

we drove onto lawrence (another 1.5 hours) with no more problems.
miraculously.

it felt like a never ending candid camera episode.
i told my grandma "i dare you to have that much fun on your way home!"

aren't you glad i had no pictures to go with that story?
here are some sweet pictures after all the insanity ended.

IMG_9712
IMG_9707

my mom put on a big spread for 20+ family members.
it was all very yummy.
my cousin came with husband and children all the way from minnesota.
that is so nice of them to make the trip.  i love spending time with them!

IMG_9727

the kids made glove turkeys…very cute.
aren't annie's twin cousins just as cute as can be?
she sure loved h
aving TWO four year olds to play with.

IMG_9746

IMG_9731
 IMG_9732

IMG_9735

grandma turned 91 this week and talby helped her blow our her candles.

IMG_9736

thank you for hosting mom and dad.

my uncles, my father, my husband, my sons, my brother-in-law, my cousin dave….all the men

were here also but for some reason there are only girls in these pictures?

i guess i should have gone in by the football….

alyssa - I was just searching through old emails for an address that I needed and came across this link that I sent to my mom. I HAD to read it again. That is, quite possibly, the funniest story I have ever heard. I remember laughing so hard the first time I read it, and the second, and the third…
Thanks for the laugh, again.
Oh, and after I read this, we try to say ‘first spill of the day’ instead of getting so frustrated- it always makes me think of this post!

Johanna - i just met your blog today… i’m loving it! thank you for this wonderful laugh… and the tip on not yelling:) i have four boys and this post made me feel not alone in the occasional chaos.

Sara - Megan you crack me up…isn’t life one big crazy adventure????

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - I’m sorry, but I did laugh. Sadly I can totally see myself in your shoes.

Kirsten - Oh I had to come out of lurkdom to say you tell the best stories, but that one, that one takes the cake.

Deb - If I’d have been driving the poopy car, I’d have been the “second puke of the day!” I can’t tolerate dog doo. Simply not. Lol. Even in leopard shoes.

Aubrey - I’m laughing with you. I don’t know what was best, you laughing at the sideways vomit (I would too), Talby’s ‘first poop pf the day!’, or the alliterate pineapple perfume making everything worse. At least you can laugh at it right? Makes things so much better. I hope I remember to laugh next weekend.

Tausha - This story is hillarious! You have a great attitude about lifes little messes!
This is one of those stories that ELLEN would reinact and we would all laugh until we cried!
You really should consider it-sending it in-that is.
Too funny!
Great story! One day you will be so glad that you wrote this down. One day.

Sandy - OMG! That’s so funny…yet not! 🙂 Talby’s “first poop of the day!” cracked me up! I wasn’t expecting that. Although I can’t say that I was expecting anything that happened on your way to Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing and letting us laugh with you. We love you. (Remember National Lampoon’s Vacation and other movies???….ha ha)

sandi - That is quite an entertaining story.LOL I think most of us can relate to those kind of stories because when you have kids and pets it is bound to happen. Looks like you got it from both ends though(grin) pun intended and yet still kept your sense of humor. I’m sure it was fun telling the story at the dinner table with your family, those are the best stories and only get better with time.

Tami Veer - thank you for helping me laugh out loud today!!! my favorite line: i am on my own…in the wind…with the poop. you are super-mom!!!!!

carrie - oh goodness. i laughed and cried with you on that one! wow, what a great memory though! and sounds like you had a lovely evening after all so all of what it took to get there was worth it in the end.
hugs

callie grayson - i laugh at inappropriate times too! can’t help it, keeps me from crying i guess.
glad the day ending up very nice with family and good food and desserts!!!
sorry that I was laughing the whole time reading your post.

Gwyn - Ha. Ha. Only funny when it’s someone else’s story!!!!

Crystal - oh meg…my favorite neighbor! 🙂 love your stories as always! 🙂 watch your mail box!! 😉

beth - hi meg !!! that has got to be the funniest story i have ever read !!!! i was laughting sooo hard !!! sounds like my life sometimes , like is this for real ?!!! LOL!!!! anyways thanks so much for leaving a sweet comment on my blog – your in my giveaway !!!
xo,
beth
ps. please stay in touch , i am soo glad i found your blog too!

traci - yep, you’re right i am laughing. that sounds like it should have been an episode on some sitcom. the deserts looks wonderful. happy birthday grandma!

carissa - that HAS to be the best story i’ve EVER heard!
i CAN say i’ve experienced flying throw up… but all that other stufff all in the same trip… ugh… i sure hope the wine was OPEN when you arrived! 🙂
a trip to never forget!
CRAZY moments & very SPECIAL moments too!

meredith - I love that this was all done in leopard shoes! You’re all class Meg. Has the smell come out of the car yet? I think this calls for one of my favourite movie quotes: “There’s a smell in here that’s going to outlast religion”.

Juliann - I laughed until I cried; sorry. I too laugh at inappropriate times….

Alyssa - Next time you can give the dog benedryl or dramamine….check with your vet but we were able to give that to our last dog.

Alyssa - Oh My!!! Sounds like the holiday trips we take. We general stay with my BIL and SIL. They are saints becuase I swear we have an average of 3 out of 4 trips one of my children throws up at their house. I have no idea but my kids get sick whenever we travel home.

amy - And I thought it was bad that Marley threw up on our last trip. Luckily we were only 5 minutes from our destination. 🙂 And… my dad gave us some pills for the ride home. I don’t think they make pills for Waffle’s problem.
You are hilarious. All of you. My aunt always says, “We are making a memory!”

foreverfoldinglaundry - Oh. My. Goodness. I laughed like crazy at this! Sometimes doesn’t your life just feel like a sitcom!?!?!

Kelly - oh my! I’m so sorry! wow.
The pictures are really lovely though. What a wonderful time with family. I loved the part where you said, “I really enjoy spending time with them.” For some reason it just hit me that isn’t that the very most important (and enjoyable) thing? It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, an activity, craft, meal, dessert, football, whatever as long as you’re spending time with each other, soaking up each other’s personalities, quirkiness that’s endearing, stories being told, etc.
Kelly
p.s. second is GREAT!!! Wow! Congrats! Thanks for the answer back.

Gini - that is by far the funniest thing i have read in a long time. and yes, i laughed as well when you mentioned your son puking out the car door…..oh well. beautiful ending to an interesting start to your day!

a thorn among roses - we have trips like this way to much! we did the vomit thing only a few weeks ago…yikes!!! and the dog…i kinda hate our dog anyway, but the poooo is, well, poo.
i am laughing too…hard. really hard.

Kambria - I can so relate to this story. I have a post about my dog Maggie on my blog and it sounds very familiar. I decided to take my poor neglected dog with me to Starbucks for a ride and she started pooping in the front seat….I was trying to balance my coffee, shift my car, pull napkins out of my glove box, and catch poop as it was falling out of her…ahem, well you know! Then she freaked out, stepped in it and jumped in the back seat! I can totally relate!
You win the prize with the puke on top of it though! 🙂

Christy - I held up to the vomit story & then lost it. Only because I was just there a month ago with my own child, puking in the backseat with a 2 second warning, one lane country lake road, about an hour from town. Oh yeah!
Thank you for sharing! I seriously had tears of laughter, I had to stop reading in sections I was laughing so hard. Especially at this “i wish i was with Dad now”. *lol*
Glad you made it safely & had a great family get together.

mom - I bet you can’t top that trip to Lawrence – I appreciate that you still come! It seems like there is always some sort of adventure.
I thought it turned out lovely and everyone had a good time.

sarah - I was holding it all in until I got to the dog running in the ditch and the woman in leopard shoes, and I lost it and laughed uncontrollably out loud.
What a trip! Wish their were pictures of all the madness for you to share with us! But the ones of when you finally got there are beautiful and precious.

Blanca - Seriously I am sitting here at my desk laughing. You need your own reality tv show. Funny thing is that sounds like many of our road trips.
Have a fantastic day!

Sandra - What a terrific story — well told. I know it couldn’t have been fun to live it, but it’s realllly fun to hear about it afterwards! Great pictures, as usual.

Jamie Sampson - Only you! PLEASE, PLEASE never let this happen to me! I like you so much!

Sara Ito - Your Grandma is beautiful! She reminds me of mine, they both look so classy and sweet!
That’s good to know that kind of stuff happens to others too, cause I have had all those things happen to me!!

PamperingBeki - Hahaha!! I’m only surprised that it was your family and not mine.
That soooo sounds like something that would happen to us.
And I do laugh at inappropriate times too. haha!
I’m glad you guys ended up with a decent evening after all that!

Staci - OHHHHH!!! I am CRACKING. UP. I can just see it. Gotta love traveling with kids….and dogs 🙂 Looks like it was alllll worth it 🙂

Rachel - Ok I almost spit my drink out! I was picturing you running on the side of the road all decked out running after waffle with a poopy piece of paper in your hand.
How cute is the photos of all the girls. And congrats to your grandma for celebrating 91 years!!!

Tracy - Good morning, Meg! Thank you SO MUCH for making my morning so much better today! LOL I woke up feeling yucky this morning and was here at the office trying to drink some coffee and feel somewhat better to proceed with my day and actually be productive. But thanks to your story (with the hilarious graphics and pictures in my head of all of these things transpiring) I have officially “perked” up and feel that I can get my day on track now! HA!
Seriously, thank you SO MUCH for your daily stories and pictures. Since I don’t live close to you, I live vicariously through you and your family and enjoy the ride (no matter how bumpy along the way). :o)
Thankfully Grandma and everyone involved that day appears to have been good sports and just rolled with the punches – my family would have been in utter chaos and probably fussing at each other the entire trip! hee hee hee
Have a great day and thanks again for sharing! Now… where did I put my coffee??!! Hugs, Trac~ :O)

Brooke - Hilarious! I love the cleaning of poop with notebook paper! A classic mom move!

Liz - Ahhh yes Meg. The ‘sliding in poop’ dog/crate occurance is not unknown in our little family. You have my sympathies. 🙂

chris - Wow that was some trip , we can laugh from a distance huh! oh you poor thing, hey I warned you about adding a dog to the mix , you are officially the super woman , I am still ready to send you my two dogs.

Amanda - Oh. My. Goodness. That is the grossest and funniest thing I have heard ALL day. (its 8:00 am and I have two small boys so give me time) I am SO sorry! I cannot even imagine trying to keep sane amidst chaos such as that. And you managed to save your shoes in the process! I have always wanted leopard shoes. With heels. Instead I wear knock off ugg slip ons. You are a hero.
Many blessings-
Amanda
P.S. You should have your relatives from Minnesota stop by my blog and chat! I am also from Minnesota! About an hour out of the twin cities! And I have two small children. And it appears they do too. And they know you so they can’t be THAT bad…right?

Diana Cornielle - OH gosh! what a story, at least you can joke about it now and look at it this way… it’s a great story to tell the kids when they get older! Great memories! lol. I love your wonderful stories…. lol….I think I would have gone crazy by now! lol. Have a nice day!

MGF - Tooooo Funny. Thank goodness there was no pictures with the story.

traci - ROFL!!! FUNNY, FUNNY STUFF. I have to say….we LOVE our dog to pieces but we have never traveled with him, you are a BRAVE/crazy women..lol
How far did you all have to travel?
The pictures are as always …..FABULOUS!!! I love Annies and Talby’s outfits. Where did you get them???
I adore your blog…not only do you take the BEST pictures but you have a talent at story telling. Please tell us what you CANT do?? 🙂

jennifer - I love it! Thanks for sharing that. I really needed that this morning.

he wasn't into me at all.
not in any way.
no way jose.
tears came bursting out right after this shot.

susan let's try again soon….on his terms.
maybe at your house?
or with your boys there to help him like me more.

he is still the cutest little guy….even with the lip.

Amy - Oh my goodness! He is absolutely adorable!!

kristin at prairie daze - really, meg, this is the photo that everyone loves years later and no one gets.
i love it. if it was my baby i would enlarge it.
beautiful.

traci - aww – what a cute picture that is though.

Sandra - The lip just makes him all the cuter. Adorable.

melissa @ the inspired room - That is absolutely the cutest. He is just not that into you. Bummer! ‘Cause he is a real cutie!
🙂

Lorilee - AAWWWWW, the sad looks can be priceless when they are grown! We always get photos of the smiles and laughter! We need to record the pouts and fits too! Some of my favorite photos are my boys’ crying! I have one of my oldest after he climbed partly into his walker and was stuck and crying. I am such a BAD mom, I had to get my camera for a photo BEFORE I could rescue him!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Jill - Oh my goodness… I’m a lip sticker outer lover!! Great photo!! ~Jill

amy d - he is still very cute, even with the pouty face. that’s ok meg, i don’t think he likes me either….may have something to do with the purple hair and crazy outfit on halloween. when i have seen him smile though, it is the cutest thing EVER! J & K can get him super giggly, it’s just too cute.

MGF - This sadness was felt.

Sandy - he is still the cutest little guy….ESPECIALLY with the lip. (and his curly hair!!) 🙂

Jan Horst - I’ve seen that look and it breaks my heart. But when he smiles, you feel that your heart could burst. He is adorable. That is a timeless picture. Love it. Oma

Susan - Try as we may… it was not happening that day.
What a cute pouty picture and I love the one you sent of me comforting him. Even on a bad subject day you have a terrific artistic eye!

Lanny Stanard - Okay Miss M, I hope you won’t wearing that wig! LOL… that makes me cry…
BiG hUgS! LaNnY

danyele - hysterical…and what can you do except pinch those cheeks and let his mamma make him happy. poor little dude.

Chaos-Jamie - the lip is priceless!

amy - I love it! And even though he’s not smiling, something tells me Susan will love this picture, too. Those curls… he fits into their family perfectly! 🙂

callie grayson - okay that is the cutest little boy ever!!!!!

sarah - That pouty lip photo is so adorable. What a cute little boy!
to your comment on Jon & Kate:
I do agree and personally feel they should be more respectful of each other. I cringe whenever she yells at him. Especially the “HELLO!” from the other end of the store. But, was just making a statement that though I may have my personal feelings and beliefs on how things should go (like discussing your issues behind closed doors, not in front of the kids) …I have don’t have a clue as to what they go through.
Makes me laugh to hear that you find their chaos comforting!
To tell you the truth, reading your blog actually gives me comfort about wanting the number of kids that I do…as weird as it may seem…its just nice to see a real mom making it work.

Kelly - aww 🙂
I thought you were denied in the contest when I read the title. How is that going? Kelly

Ashley - Awww…. what a face!!!!

carissa - very cute pouty lip!
with kiddos you never know what you’ll get! 🙂

Shana - His best face comes when he’s snuggling into his mommy’s neck. I’ve seen it so many times and my heart melts!

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Bless his heart! He is adorable! The pouty lip makes the picture!

Rachel - Oh no….that lip and you can see the water in his eyes! It’s not you I am sure it was the camera!
Cute pic though!

thrifty

annie and i ran some errands yesterday but ended up at the thrift shop.

IMG_9764

i always grab vintage christmas ornaments when i find them.
i love how the finish is all crackle-y and gone in some parts.
pink is always a big find that makes me happy.

then on our way out we spotted this in the window display.

IMG_9770

we had to have it.
as we paid the $3 i said "look…i bet your pet shops will fit inside there."

IMG_9766

talby was so excited about it when she got home from school.
it is such a cozy little box all lined in pink velvet and satin.
she doesn't even realize there had been a mirror inside before.
it even has a shallow drawer at the bottom for other teeny tiny pieces.

and it's so much cuter than the big plastic turquoise tackle box thing i almost bought
for the same purpose at target for $19.99.
big smiles around here yesterday.

Sandra - My mom had a jewelry box just like that one in the 60’s. It’s so nice to see one like it being used for a little girl’s treasures.

Tausha - I love to come here-your blog that is. Is is so refreshing.
I love the pink ornaments.
I love the old ones as well-everything old has more character!
I love to match my furniture with my clothes. Espescially jammie pants!
The old jewwlry box! What a find. We have a client that we are working on right now. We are doing 3 kids bedrooms. One is such a girly girl-we have been trying to find a jewwlry box. No luck yet. It really is perfect for all their little treasures!!

danyele - i am in love with old ornaments too. just got some new/old ones from my mom this week. yeah!
and that box….sooo pretty!

sarah - Awesome finds. And 3 bucks for that lovely little box, super deal.

Connie - Hi Meg, Thanks for replying. Yes, that’s my situation. I just got a mac, too. I was trying to reduce a 12″x12″ to a smaller size and guess I will have to go for the photoshop type program.
Nice to talk with you and if I get an answer, I will let you know.
Have a nice holiday next week.
Connie

carissa - PERFECT for those pet shop critters! if i could just get my girls to PUT THEM BACK where they BELONG! 🙂
those critters roam!

Victoria - I always buy the old ornaments too! Love them when they are cracked like that.
What a great idea for the toys. So much prettier than plastic!!!

Jenn Thomas - Aww Meg – I had a bunch of old ornament balls and I think I gave them away last year. If I find them later next week ….I will send them down the street. I enjoy boxes of such to put things in – they are all over upstairs with stuff.

traci - great finds. the little jewelry box is perfect for the girls. love the vintage ornaments. i have started picking those up as well. they are so pretty.

Sara - I Love the Pink Shiny Old Ornaments I feel the same way about the finish. I love all my mom and dads old ones, they feel so “authentic” and “old school” and it just makes me smile. My art show is this week and I wish you could come set up my jewelry table and make it look super cool!
-s

michelle allen - you are awesome Meg! i wish we lived closer together. i know we’d be “real life” friends! : ) although we’d probably go junking together and fight over the same treasures : )

Jamie Sampson - Love all of the pink. Such cute ornaments and a fabulous little box. Love it!

Connie - Your blog is just great and your photography is super. I am just getting started with the photo’s and after seeing yours, I think I need a class or two at least.
I have been a scrapbooker for 10 years and can’t seem to reduce the size of the 12×12. I have been scanning them and then stitching, but I am stuck at the sizing.
Do you use a photo program?
Love to hear the way you do it. If you have time, I would love to hear your method of the above. Really would appreciate it. Connie cjlenden@frontiernet.net

Christy - Great finds! Love them both. I have a couple boxes of those in red & silver, I don’t think I have seen a box in all pink! That is a great score!
Love that jewelry box too! I have it’s cousin version. It was my grandmother’s, when she passed I got her jewelry box filled with her favorite costume jewelry that I used to play with when I was a kid. 🙂 So sweet.
What a great use to keep the girl LPS stuff in!

callie - great finds!!!

creole wisdom - That box is great! Each year, my mom buys me a vintage (generally really fun 1950s) ornament. So that when I have my own place someday my tree won’t be empty. I agree, older ornaments are works of art!

Lorilee - Wonderful finds! I often wish I now had some of my Granny’s old ornaments–glass balls that looked tarnished, old brush trees, cardboard glittered churches etc. I always helped both of my grandmothers put up their trees until I was grown and didn’t have time!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Darby - What fabulous finds!! Love them both!!

Kasey - dang cute.

Amanda - I once had a Shabby Chic designed Christmas tree. That was before I had kids. Everything was delicate and beautiful. And pink. And baby blue. And white. And I miss it a lot.
Now I get thankful chains and colorful animated ornaments and more smiles to appreciate the beauty of a well designed tree. Its all good I do belive.
Many blessings-
Amanda

Staci - I have one almost exactly like that sitting in my closet right this very second 🙂 It belonged to Brian’s mom…and although I don’t put my pet shoppe stuff in it…I do love it so very much 🙂

brittany - LOVE the pink ornaments!!…my fav by far!

Laura - Aw!! That is EXACTLY like my Grandma’s jewelry box. 😀

Rachel - What a great find…and a great place to store those tiny toys. I pick them up all the time around my house and was just thinking last night I need a little box to put them in!
How great!!!

foreverfoldinglaundry - Perfect! I love it.

MGF - Well done for 3$. I love when things have it’s place.

deb meyers - hey! What an idea!
deb meyers

Allikayes Mama - Yay for that! My grandma gave me a little box just like that when I was little! Memories!! Also – those ornaments remind me of a roommate I had in college that brought antique ornaments to hang in our dorm…freshman year! Was she crazy?! Some of the boy actually filled them with water as a prank…needless to say I think she learned that antiques don’t belong in a freshman dorm!! hehehe

Gwyn - What a great use for that old jewelry box! I still remember an old suitcase my mom gave me to keep my Barbies in, I wonder what happened to that old thing?

amy - meg-my grandma had one just like it–i may have to dig it up so my little girl can play with it again. brilliant!
btw-i made your cheesy potato soup TWICE this week. yummy yummy in our tummies! thanks for sharing. (and once again i bow to your superior skills! wink!)
amy

Nichole - That is just perfect! Maybe you could add a mirror in it?

jodi - so cute! wish i’d had one when my girls were little. wish i still had a girl that was little! enjoy, meg-great pics as always-
jodi in fl but moving to pa

colorful monday

IMG_9701

i am trying to get the craft room cleaned to get some counter space cleared.
i was going through my boxes of craft supplies from my great aunt.
it's mostly organized by color and everything is in old pill bottles….i love that.

IMG_9705
IMG_9704

my new favorite pandora station is Adele.  (just type in Adele…after you register)

fun music and mostly all clean…..groovin' while i am blogging or cooking.

my new jammie pants from target (of course) are making me happy today.

IMG_9477

they match my lampshade and curtains on the armoire in the playroom.
don't you try to match your furniture?

IMG_9437

are you feeling christmas pressure already like me?
are you talking about black friday at your house?
did you start your christmas shopping?
wal-mart started playing christmas music on november 1st.   24 hours a day till january.
our local pop station already switched to all christmas music.
it's all just so weird to me.
how much time do we really need to shop for gifts?
how much can one person buy?!
whatever.

IMG_9696

IMG_9488

i am still going to acknowledge november.
and all it has to offer…turkeys and leaves and crisp cool days.
just trying not to rush through the year you know?
we should make our thankful chain again.

IMG_9755

that girl - have I mentioned lately that your blog is my favorite?

melissa @ the inspired room - I must go to Target. Now. Love those. And I want your curtains. I want to live at your house! 🙂 BFF can come live with you right? Yes, I think they can.
xoxo

carissa - toooo fast this year! we’ll get back from TX and it will be rush… rush… rush… it’s DECEMBER! breathe!
once again i will replay on my mind… “come on girl… focus on what’s really important”!
that is a serious bucket full of crafty treats from your great aunt… so fun… those pill boxes! i am toatally obsessed with all this “container”… crazy fun obsessed that is! 🙂
do you think i could find curtains that resemble Laura Ingalls clothes… my hubby always says that i look like her in my nightgown! i think your fun pj pants are WAY better! 🙂
happy hump day!

a thorn among roses - prettiness all around!

Tami Reed - Hello I loove your blog page, its so colorful and fun to visit! Keep up the good work! smile!

Brooke - I love the shirts you make for your girls. They are so super cute! I loved the ones with their ages on them for their birthdays.
Love your pajamas btw!!! Looks like I will be needing to go to Target.

Brooke - I love the shirts you make for your girls. They are so super cute! I loved the ones with their ages on them for their birthdays.
Love your pajamas btw!!! Looks like I will be needing to go to Target.

traci - i caved to the christmas pressure. your pj’s are cute – love target pj’s. that quite a treasure chest of goodies from your aunt.

Juliann - I’m with you on the Christmas shopping pressure! I am getting all handmade gifts for family this year; either by me or from online sources, like your friend Beki.
Congrats on your room! It looked great on the website; hope you have fun with your prizes!!
Juliann

carrie - I just bought the pajama pants yesterday. I LOVE them and can’t wait to wear them!
Your site is amazing and I would love to be as creative as you.

MGF - When I saw those little bottle I knew they were old. My mom has tons in hr craft room.
I can stand the Christmas music before December.

Rach - I am TOTALLY feeling the Christmas crunch. I was on bed rest for 2 weeks and am still “taking it easy” and figured this would be the perfect time to start our Christmas lists. I was ready to be ambitious and organized and get a jump on things and when I tired to start, the whole thing overwhelmed me. Maybe all the Christmas decorations at the local craft stores will help re-motivate me. Maybe I should just enjoy Thanksgiving first. 🙂

callie - great post!!!
made me smile, love all the bobbles and sparklies from your great aunt!
I am refusing to listen to christmas music until after Thanksgiving! I love autumn and what it is all about! crunchy pretty leaves, first snow of big HUGE snow flakes floating softly down, and blue black inky skies! the smell of a fireplace! i love autumn.
callie

Lorilee - MMMMM yummy! I love the sequins, beads and goodies in clear bottles. I inherited a similar collection from my Mom. I don’t start decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Rachel - Adele is awesome! And I agree it seems it’s all about the shopping; Halloween over and let’s roll in the Christmas stuff…let us relish in Thanksgiving…being with family, laughing, having great food…great memories!

Wendy - have you ever thought about selling some of the things you make on etsy?

jerusalem - Lovely post! And yes this year I have already started shopping in little bits. In fact I think that is going to be the theme for all my gifts this year – “little bits.” Love the jammies that match the curtain – too cute!

kasey - wow, quite the collection!!
k-

Trina - Love the pillbox idea… have been thinking about downloading Adele… road trip coming up so it is a must on my list now! and WHATEVER to Christmas already is all I have to say!

chris - I am completely overwhelmed about the Christmas spending , where is that money going to come from I ask ?
Ok where did you get all those medicine bottles ??????????

Ashlie - I so agree with you about not rushing through the year. I refuse to decorate for Christmas before December even gets here! Poor November doesn’t even stand a chance anymore!
On another note, I love your jammies! I’m going to a girls’ night tonight and it PJ’s night! It’s really chilly here now so I think I’m gonna wear my pink fleece pants with hearts all over them. And some yummy layering t-shirts from Old Navy. Let’s hear it for comfy clothes!

Nichole - This has to be said: Reading your posts is the highlight of my day. Not only are you funny and real, but your pictures are always so fun!
On the 1st of November I went to Borders by my house, where they already had Christmas decorations set up and music playing. I think maybe with the economy in it’s current state, stores are trying to get people in the spirit early to make year end goals?
Either way, yes. We should slow down and lavish in November, Thanksgiving and fall weather. :]
Although, last night, I did start setting up my Christmas Craft Center in my bedroom. Couldn’t help it.

Jamie Sampson - I love your photos. All of the colors and little containers of things. They make me feel happy. I love little boxes and containers.
I agree, november should be enjoyed and not rushed through. I love that the weather has been nice.
And by the way, Rockin’ PJ’s!

Liz - Great post Meg! I also feel a little sad about November, it’s kind of like the stepchild of the holiday season.
AND YES… I adore The Breakup. I saw Vince once, at a comedy tour. VERY cute. Actually, he kind of reminds me of Matt a little, probably just the tall, big shoulders, dark hair thing. Except Matt doesnt talk as much as Vince, thank goodness.

brittany - LOVE the thankful paper chain idea! and as I am typing this, I am shamefully wearing reindeer pj bottoms…oh well!

Heather S - I discovered your blog this weekend and proceeded to spend WAY too much time reading it from beginning to end. Your beautiful photos and stories about everyday life captured my attention! I love your home and I’m feeling totally inspired to start a million projects (anything but the school work I should be doing!)Keep up the great work.

Kim - I’ve been lurking for a few days and decided to finally say hello. Beautiful blog and I love your style of writing- your wonderful stream of consciousness.
I am with you on the Christmas rush so to speak. I love Thanksgiving and wish I could enjoy without Jingle Bells in the background.
And those craft supplies are delicious. I love all the old pill bottles full of sparkles.
Enjoy your new jammies from Target- my home away from home.

Tami - Hi Meg
I totally agree with the holiday rush. Thanksgiving is my favorite and it comes and goes to fast…
Thanks for sharing about the station. Adele is great my 18 month old is even grooving 🙂
Have a Blessed day, Tami
P.S. Just wanted to let you know I’m getting better at this blog stuff I finally got the link thing figured out. YA!!!

Kameron - I know exactly how you feel. I think they cram all of the holidays together and Thanksgiving is getting lost in the shuffle. I don’t want to even think about Christmas until I am full and fat with Turkey!!

Leah - I’m totally with you on that one Meg! I love Christmas but Im waiting till the day after thanksgiving to pull out the decorations. I still want to celebrate Thanksgiving for goodness sakes.

Tracy - P.S. Since I didn’t know how to edit my original post, I have to make another one – but I agree with you – let’s not rush November – I LOVE the family time on Turkey Day and all of the preparations, Macy’s Day Parade, etc… I did manage to get all 80 of my Christmas cards handmade over the last 2 weekends though, so I have decided to start “slowly” easing into Christmas on my end. :o)

Tracy - Love the beads, etc… in old pill bottles. I was thinking (before I finished reading) that you had a great idea and here I’ve been throwing all of my pill bottles away! LOL I think I will keep them from here on out and put my beads, etc. in them for scrapbooking! I can always use MORE organization – just ask my husband! HA!
Hugs, Trac~ :o)

Amanda - All those crafting supplies give me anxiety. I then think about my own crafting supplies and think to myself that I should be crafting more instead of letting them just sit collecting dust.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I do love a good November… thanksgiving meal (traditional all the way) is my favorite meal of the year. And being 9 months pregnant, its reasonable to have others prepare it for me. And not help with the dishes. But dont tell my MIL I have a preplanned excuse.
God bless-
Amanda
