just a little somethin’

IMG_0946

so this is the hot cocoa gift you were asking about.
it's not much but just a little something.
it's all about the packaging ladies!

i melted chocolate and dipped big marshmallows in it using toothpicks.
then sprinkles are added immediately.
i laid them out onto wax paper to cool.
(it took about 30 minutes start to finish)

i packaged chocolate dipped and regular marshmallows,
tied the treat bag closed with a ribbon, a tag and a candy cane.
the tag says thank you.
i stapled 2 hot cocoa packs right to the treat bag.

super easy.
very pretty.
a little something to show your appreciation.

more to come……

Jason - Thanks for the information…I bookmarked your site, and I appreciate your time and effort to make your blog a success!

Jennifer - Hi!
Can I use your picture of the bagged chocolate marshmallow cocoa gifts on my blog please? I attempted these. I’m VERY cooking challenged… and have kind of a funny story. I would definitely reference where the picture is from by putting your blog link. If not, that’s more than OK… just thought I’d check. If so, THANKS A BUNCH!
Let me know,
Jen

Jennifer - So adorable! I’ve gotta do it for sure!
Did you use chocolate chips for the chocolate or baking chocolate or something else?
Please let me know!
Thanks!
Smiles,
Jen

Rachel - Ok this looks like something I could tackle…the melted chocolate part may be a task for me…and messy but it’s too cute not to try!

Katie - Cute way to spice up a traditional =)

kristin at prairie daze - that is a sweet something.
and let me tell you i just bought those bacon and egg bandaids….only i bought them for 2 dollars more.
ugh.
oh well.

Evan Sanford - I did this very same thing last year for my kid’s teachers… they LOVED them!!! they are so fun to make 🙂

a thorn among roses - i htought i saw these in a prior post you did this week. they are sooo pretty…good ribbon goes a long way!

Staci - Oh I love this! This would be perfect for Connor’s RE teachers at church…since there are quite a few of them 🙂 Thanks for sharing Meg!

Kristi - love this idea!
thanks for sharing.

Sara - Adorable! Just started reading your blog recently and really love it!

jennifer - such a great idea! i might need to give it a try. that would require learning how to melt chocolate, but it’s never too late to learn…

Tami - very cute idea!

cynthia - i am so doing this.

regina - Never thought of dipping marshmellows. I guess never thought you could b/c they may melt?? Good idea. I made sausage balls w/a hot chocolate packet to go w/it and took it to few of my neighbors!!
Merry Chhristmas!!

Nessa Dee - Great idea!

Lorilee - I love it. Simple but pretty!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Jamie Sampson - lovely

sarah - super cute

Julie - That is very cute! The packaging is awesome!

traci - very cute. makes me want to trade the cup of jo for a hot chocolate. have a great weekend meg.

the nutcracker, Side Show Bob & donuts

IMG_0763

i took talby to see the nutcracker this year.
she was so excited to do something fancy with mom….alone.
i think the alone part was the most exciting for her.

she wore her beautiful black gown with sparkles (from our neighbors at the garage sale)
and dressed her build-a-bear up too.
craig walked in from work and she said "hi daddy!  i'm beautiful!"
hmmm…we must say that often.

we had balcony seats but it is such a great theater…no bad seats anywhere.
the lights went down and the music began.
the dancing couples came out and she gasped "OH….i am going to LOVE this!"
it made me start to cry.

IMG_0775

she also said "mom…he's not really a doll.  he's a man pretending to be a doll."
so precious and innocent.
(lorel…i know what you are thinking….)

IMG_0778

there was a woman in our row with a 1 year old baby.
i kept thinking "who would bring a baby to this?" before it started.
and when it did…that baby sat there as if she was completely hypnotized…it was crazy.

IMG_0779

and sitting right next to me was a young couple probably 18 or 19.
i felt SO BAD for him.
he was tall and so cramped in the little seats and AT THE BALLET!
i just wanted to grab his girlfriend and say "why did you make him come here?"
he was keeping his cool but i just knew he was dying to get out of there.

IMG_0780

i like ballet.
i liked being in ballet.
every ballet i went to as a child i would think to myself "that's what i will be when i grow up"
in all the nutcrackers that i have seen….
i have never seen a Fritz played by a man with a hairdo similar to Side Show Bob.
(very big poufy naturally curly hair…an Afro on a white guy)
it was very distracting.
and for that matter…all the men in this ballet had odd hair…it must be a moscow thing?

anyway…we made it through most of it and when she whispered "how much longer?"
i knew it was time to go.
so we did.
straight to krispy kreme.

IMG_0791
IMG_0804

it was nice.
besides alone time with talby….i hadn't been inside a krispy kreme since we'd moved to kansas!
i was feeling a bit homesick for IL.
we had a KK about 5 minutes from our house there and we'd meet friends there often.
sigh…..

IMG_0799
what a good night!
but any night that ends in donuts has to be a good night.
it's a fact.

-- - “and sitting right next to me was a young couple probably 18 or 19.
i felt SO BAD for him.
he was tall and so cramped in the little seats and AT THE BALLET!
i just wanted to grab his girlfriend and say “why did you make him come here?”

Oh, you knew what he was thinking, huh? I doubt it. It sounds more like you’re just projecting your awfully sexist opinions. Men can enjoy ballet, you know.

JC - These pics are gorgeous! Do you remember what the camera settings were? And were you sitting fairly close to the stage or did you just have an awesome zoom?

Carrie K - What a magical night…fancy dresses and donuts with mom!
lucky lucky girl 🙂

comidademama - true amazing presents!
OT here yuo can find my post about you
thanks again for sharing you stunning work
http://www.montag.it/comida/archives/004103.html

Jamie Sampson - what a perfect night. I love krispy kreme, but I totally don’t like super sweet stuff so I always go for the apple filled ones that are just delightful but when ever I get them everyone always says oh gross. And the surprising thing, those apple one which one would think would be a little healthier actually have more calories than all of the other donuts consumed at Krispy Kreme.

anne - Love the pics of the ballet!
You and your daughter have AMAZING eyes!
What a fun outing! 🙂

meaghan easterhaus - oh to have girls! i can’t believe how much you guys look alike!

jerusalem - Oh I love going to the Nutcracker. Next year I want to take my boys, but I bet once is all they will want to go. Then I will have to find a girl to borrow and take.. What a great night to do something alone with Talby. I try and do something sweet like that around Christmas with my 2 also.

Amanda Rettke - I have NEVER been in a KK… but I have tried it once or twice. It was OK.
Kidding! You know I was salivating just reading this.
Loved that you loved the ballet… and that you noticed Mr. Uncomfortable right next to you! I hope she (girlfriend) apprecaites having a nice guy!
Many blessings-
Amanda

kara - Whe will remember this forever!
I still remember when I got to go to the special “sugar plum fairy ball” with my mom after the nutcracker…honestly the food at Krispy Kreme probably would’ve been better 🙂

jodi` - oh, meg–PLEASE share your camera settings—mine is similar, but a nikon, and my daughter was IN the nutcracker and my pictures are dark and blurry. same thing goin’ on for my 9th grade son’s basketball games and the kindergarten play this morning at school….
do tell!
jodi

Angie Seaman - We have those same holiday Krispy Kreme donuts in our pantry right now girlie. LOVE em’! Great pick! So glad you had a fun night with your little princess. Don’t you just love that one on one time?
Have a fantabulous weekend!
Blessings, Angie Seaman

carissa - krispy kreme… might be my fav part! 🙂
a night Talby will remember FOREVER… very neat Meg!

sarah - -craig walked in from work and she said “hi daddy! i’m beautiful!”
-the dancing couples came out and she gasped “OH….i am going to LOVE this!”
it made me start to cry.
I love both of those comments from Talby.
And I would have cried too…
and…YUM. I LOVE Krispy Kreme. Definitely agree, any night that ends with donuts is a good night.

Nichole - It’s so great that you expose your children to these sort of things! Even better that they still find awe in everything. :] I’ll be taking my mom to the one in Seattle at McCaw Hall as a Christmas gift. She’s never been to a ballet.
Yay for Krispy Kreme!!!

Shannan - What fun! I just wrote a heart-felt ode to Krispy Kreme not even a month ago. Must be in the air. 🙂

Lee Ann - So fun! Loved the comment about the date. You just wanna scream “if you like him, don’t punish him by making him come here!”
You’re a good momma creating great memories. Especially that you left early! Way to go.

PamperingBeki - Awww, what a good mom. 🙂
Camryn LIVES for our “girl dates” – just a night out with me and her. She loves it.

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Hi Meg! I know this is completely off the subject, but…
we’re winding down our homeschooling lessons, and working on crafts with the children. You really peaked my curriousity with your project photo of old crayons in a muffin tin. I’d love for you to share what crafty-goodness you were up to! Pretty please!

Amy - I’m going to my very first Nutcracker ballet this weekend with my daughter…Daddy and I are taking her and I couldn’t be more giggly about it…I’ll probably cry too! 😉 Great pictures!!

Traci Thorson - what a wonderful evening. talby had to be in heaven. a night out with mom and krispy kremes – does it get any better than that?? don’t think so.

Diana Cornielle - Oh what a great idea. I wonder if my 16 yr old would like to do something like this with me? hum….? maybe NOT! Lol. I’m glad you had a nice night out with your little girl. Did I mention it’s crazy how much you both look a like! Teehe-hee!! Have a nice weekend.

mom - What a fun night for the two of you. After an afternoon of shopping and a nice dinner at Mad Greek, Grandma and I went to the Community Theater last night to see “Christmas Story.” It was very cute.
The picture of you two is great – still mini you!

Staci - Oh what a night it looks like the two of you had! I had bought tickets for The Nutcracker 2years ago…and it turned out to be the same night as the Big 12 Championship Game…so Brian bailed on me (I would’ve too, but my good friend’s three daughters were dancing and I wanted to see it worse than he did!) Anyway, I let Connor choose a friend (he chose a sweet little girl because he knew she’d like it, ahhh!) to go with us. We bought her a hand corsage and I bought one for Connor’s lapel (sp?) I will never forget that night. They were so sweet…they made it past intermission, and then they kept asking, “how much longer?” So, we left and made a late night Sonic run! I think that was their favorite part 🙂 I need to have date nights with my kids more often. Thanks for reminding me! Can’t wait to see your craft that you are addicted too!

Tracy - What a very special memory for you and Talby that she will carry with her forever. It’s so nice that you had that mommy/daughter alone time together. The pictures are great! And KK is a wonderful place to end on a high note for the evening! Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Trac~ :o)

Suzanne - ok, we’re connected!! saturday we did krispy kreme & nutcracker too!! we’ve taken annie every year since she was 3, and it is awesome! we ask her every year if she wants to go again, and she still says yes…guess it’s because it’s just her, me and daddy:)
i’ve missed you again!!!!

piles

i am surrounded by piles.

in every single room of my house.

IMG_0900

this is my least favorite pile.

i promised i would build the gingerbread house today so the kids could decorate it after school.
why do i promise stuff like that?
annie has been begging all morning to get started (since 7 AM)
i have my pounding monthly mega-headache that i always get
and i just can't wake up.

but christmas projects are moving right along.
i can't wait to show you some of the house and my new craft obsession.
i am addicted.

ready?  OK!!
have a super great thursday……(said my best cheerleader voice)

Sarah @ Thriftydecorchick - Oh good Lord, I am with you. I am the Pile Queen — especially mail…paper, coupons, whatever. And the pile moves about five times till I finally deal with it. Love your site!

Sarah @ Thriftydecorchick - Oh good Lord, I am with you. I am the Pile Queen — especially mail…paper, coupons, whatever. And the pile moves about five times till I finally deal with it. Love your site!

Jamie Sampson - I am not alone, said with a huge sigh of relief.

a thorn among roses - so my hubs is the king of piles…no horizontal space for him bc he will fill it up! laundry…does it ever ever get done???

Trina - Well I have to say.. your piles are quite pretty!!!!! Can’t wait to see the craft.. I haven’t been very crafty lately!! Looking for some inspiration 🙂

michelle allen - how can you make your piles even look good!
did you build your gingerbread house from scratch? i can’t wait to see the pictures! that is one of the projects i promised my kids this year too. it’s a good way to get rid of all the old candy sitting around : )
are those teacher gifts with the marshmellows? hope your headache disappeared. from the looks of the time i will probably be having one in the morning myself!

Ashley - I think you must be SuperMom with all you accomplish in one day. I feel like I do alot, then I visit your blog and am tired (and jealous) looking at your day! I am curious what the tins are being used for?

traci - only you could make all those piles look so inviting. love the magazines – i have piles of those here too. and lemonheads are my all time favorite. yum!!

Gini - I like pile number 3….oh, wait, I mean pile number 4…no make that pile number 5. I hear ya’, girl!

carissa - my laundry pile is BIGGER than your laundry pile!
wait a minute… that’s not good! 🙂
you are doing GREAT…
well on your way to the finish line!

regina - I see piles but I see very pretty and fun piles!!!!

jennifer - The colors in your piles are so pretty. Even the laundry pile. There’s way too much brown and black in my mountain of a laundry pile.
I’m another one that really wants to know the how to on the cocoa baggies. They look too cute but I’m craft impaired so there’s no way I can figure out on my own what you’ve got going on there.
Can’t wait to see the rest of crafting addictions!

Lee Ann - But your piles are so pretty! 🙂 Does your craft obesession involve the bottle caps?

Rach - Are you sure you aren’t the Energizer Bunny because you continue to amaze me with your daily projects. Maybe there are 30 hours in your day instead of 24. 😉

Aubrey - You make piles look pretty. I love those little tins. I’ve never seen them before (why am I so ignorant?) but I bet you’re doing something fun with them. We did gingerbread houses from kits I bought after christmas on sale. Lazy, I know–but they don’t eat the gingerbread anyway.
I have the same laundry basket–only less full. Only because I haven’t washed it all yet and my husband folded some of it already. Maybe he’ll do all the Christams baking, too.

Tami - Wow r u kiddin me lol. I havent even put the tree up yet! Yikes!

sarah - At lest they are pretty piles, right?!

kasey - what happened to you taking a breaK?

adrienneK - i recently discovered your blog(through ohdeedoh, i was recently featured on the site as well) and i am in love with all your color!! i too would like to know more about the neat coa coa kits, they seem like a great idea:)

Laura - I, too, would like to know about the packages with the hot cocoa mix. I need Sunday School teacher gifts. I was thinking about baking; but, maybe you have a better idea there. If you get a chance, please share. And thanks for always making me smile and for being real. Gotta love that!

Queenie Bee - Looks like piles of FUN to me!…except that last one, of course. And you must (!) show us a better photo of what all is inside those hot chocolate bags! I think I need to steal that idea. 🙂
Hey, any cute ideas for small gifts for 13 year-old cheerleaders? I just know you’re the right person tho ask!

Mary-Liz Shaw - Hi! I’m working on a Milwaukee newspaper story about designing and decorating children’s rooms. I saw your guest room/play room featured on Ohdeedoh and thought you might be willing to discuss your style for my article? Please email me. Thanks.

sara's art house - even your piles are cute!

Alyssa - if my piles looked like your beautiful piles, I would kiss the ground. Your piles kick my piles butt in a beauty contest.
The laundry piles is the kind of piles I have ALL over my house.
Can not wait to see your new project.

Jess - my washer and dryer are humming as I type….you MUST tell us about all those piles….now that you have teased us with this post…they do look fun! -jess

Shannan - Those piles (well, most) look mighty fun! Reminds me that I do actually need to go wrap the presents. It probably wouldn’t be as fun if I led the kids into our closet on Christmas morning and let them have a free-for-all with the giant Target bag of goodies.
Can’t wait to see those Christmas crafts!

Ali - Ditto, you have such pretty, pretty piles of stuff. 🙂

ForeverFoldingLaundry - Oh, bless you for posting that picture of your laundry pile…it is the identical twin of mine. And I don’t want to touch it. I’m hoping some magical Christmas elf will come and make it all go away. It could happen, right?

April - Meg….what magazine says Come Home To Comfort on its spine ??
Oooh I love Mary’s Home Companion !!!
Good luck with your piles…..
have a happy day

julie - Okay, so it sort of doesn’t count if your piles are so pretty. Well, I suppose the last pic counts…. less pretty.
Looks like fun things are happening at your house!
I am mean and always send the gingerbread house kit over to the grandparents….
Fun memory for them. Less mess for me.

Jenn Thomas - I feel the same way but I don’t have as many piles as you do. Some of those piles look awful yummy and crafty. I guess many of us will be burning the midnight oil in the
next couple weeks. Hey my mom is coming maybe I could send her down to help 🙂 but I think I will keep her for myself. Hang in there Meg!

meaghan easterhaus - oohhh…laundry for that many people…ouch!

Jen - I am right there with ya! Thanks for the laundry pic, just reminds us we are all in the same boat!
Hilarious on the cheer voice. I could hear you without even ever meeting you!
♥Jen

Liz - Yes, but your piles are pretty piles. 🙂

Mandi - Christmas presents…wrapped…already?
I haven’t even begun shopping. shesh.

traci - Normally, Im not a big “piles” kinda gal, but I even LOVE your piles..lol…well, except for the last one…LOL
PLEASE, dont tease us with telling us about your latest craft addiction and then showing us NIPPO!!!!

hello

IMG_0883

waffle and i are just stopping in today to say a quick hello.
my list is crazy long and i don't feel like anything is getting done!
how can that be?

so i must "step away from the computer" and get christmas moving right along.
see ya!

Cheryl - Hello there, I just came across your site and I am really enjoyng looking at your photos. Especially this one – very cute!

Runway girl - love, love, love your wonderful blog.
i will be back!

Julie K. - You are so stinkin’ cute!

Sandy - That’s an awesome picture! I love your hat and I hope you got everything done.

Melissa Mae - Love your house. I dream of one day renovating an old house with character. Your “floating” stairs are my favorite part! And as for the bathroom walls where your kids are allowed to draw? I used to draw all over my furniture in high school. My mom bought me an old desk just for that purpose, so I’m going to definitely carry on that tradition!

anne - *{waves}* hi there!
hope your day was a good one,
*tossing waffle a bone*
🙂

melissa @ the inspired room - I love Waffle.
I was thinking about you all day. Isn’t that funny? I kept thinking, wonder how Meg is? And before I could come by, there you are, visiting me! I knew you’d be super busy with holiday stuff! 😀
Have a great rest of the week!
blessings,
melissa

Kelly - you’re adorable! have a great day! Kelly

Lorilee - Meg,
I love that photo! Cute hat. I love hats, but my hair always looks awful when I take one off!
Blessings,
Lorilee

emily - Good luck with the Christmas ready-ness. I am in the middle of mine, Christmas is coming a bit early here since Jeff has to work on the real day so I am blasting on to full speed ahead!

amy d - what an adorable picture of you two! waffle’s expressions are just too cute! what did he think of the snow?

sarah - Your adorable, and I just want to smother Waffle with love!!

Staci - I’m with ya!!! I haven’t posted anything new on my blog in over a week ;( LOSER I am! Hope you are able to get all you need to get done 🙂

meg - I love all of your decorations! So pretty! I found your blog a few months ago and have been so inspired by so many different things here! I really loved the stockings that you made last year and it inspired me to make some for my family. I just posted them up today on my blog, so thank you for sharing your ideas and talents!

Lanny Stanard - Okay I must say that’s my favorite! give waffle a big old kiss tell him it’s from ME! love the hat too!
Lanny=)

MGF - Fun reminder to get to work

Jennie - Hey Meg! I love your blog…even have you listed on mine under “people I don’t know, but wish I did.” Your pictures are great, and I would just love a day in that craft room! Just thought I’d stop in an introduce myself – hope you got that to do list done!
Jennie

Sara - I hear you girl. I can’t believe that its almost here. We leave for Delaware (my mom’s) on the 20th so I want to have everything done by then so we don’t have to rush around once we get there. Looking forward to that 12 hour ride with the kids. 🙂 And we are traveling on Sunday so Chick fil A is closed…drat. I thought of you as I decorated the tree saying”listen to Meg, don’t stress about the decorations. you can hand 3 heavy ornaments on one branch, right?

carissa - stepping away… looking REALLY cute!
go girlfriend… get ‘er done!

Aubrey - I love your hats and you look so cute in them. Good luck on your list, or should I say, good luck to me on my list. That I still need to write. Woo-hoo for Annie writing words and her outfit ensemble is so cute. At least her colors coordinate–which is more than I can say for my 6-yr-old. She’s into monochromatic outfits–imagine a curly blonde kindergartener in all BLACK. It was kind of funny.

Evan Sanford - my sis-in-law introduced me to your blog. she just knew that i’d love it!!! so i thought i’d introduce myself. i’ll be stopping by from time to time… hope your day is fantastic! evan

PamperingBeki - Haha!
So did you take this before you went out for coffee or after?
I’m still jealous that you don’t have hat hair when you take your hat off. Just when I thought you couldn’t get any more perfect, you go and prove me wrong. 😉

Kim - That is a fabulous picture! Now, get along and get your stuff done. My list is a mile long too!

Tracy - Meg this is a VERY CUTE photo of you! I wish I could think to take pictures like that, but sadly, I don’t have that kind of creativity! That’s why YOU are the photographer! HA! Have fun today and I hope you get a lot accomplished. Hugs, Trac~ :o)

Alysa - Meg – love this picture. As I looked at it I thought, she looks like a young Sally Fields …. beautiful! Have fun. Your blog continues to inspire me.

Melanie - CUTE! CUTE! CUTE!

Lee Ann - Step away and run! Hope you get things accomplished and that your list gets shorter. Thanks for stopping to say hi. Fun picture! I’m attempting homemade marshmallows right now. We’ll see……

umm….when did this happen?

IMG_0468

IMG_0440

she can write.

words like flamingo.
and elephant.

IMG_0442

all my kids (probably ALL kids) have entered this stage where they know their abc's
and they realize that letters spell words.
then they want to spell everything that they can think of.

but this is annie!
she's my baby.
my last baby.
the last one to say "how do spell lion again mom?"

it's just so bittersweet.

IMG_0451

she was putting together her train alphabet puzzle and decided to stop
and write out the word that was on each piece.
26 words.

IMG_0454
"YES!" she shouted.
and then ripped all the sheets from her little notebook and said they were "tickets for lizzie".

my baby.
is so not a baby anymore…..

Brooke - Oh my goodness…I am so there with you! These moments are completely bittersweet! My youngest is now four and going through the motions of spelling/writing/reading/etc. and it is definitely giving me the baby fever! I remember the night we brought her home from the hospital just 3 days old and I cried..when my husband asked me what I was crying about I blurted out, “She’s already getting older!!” Haha…even then I wasn’t ready for this growing business to continue!
P.S. My favorite is the celebrating photo at the end…too fun!

Andrea - I so know how you feel! My youngest is now reading chapter books & loving Junie B. Jones. All at the same time I am so excited I can hardly stand myself (I’m a teacher) but I also want to rip the book from her hands and tell her she’s not allowed to read them to herself.
I love reading your blog!

traci - aww sweet annie. i am excited for her. that is quite the accomplishment. but i feel your pain. it’s so hard when the youngest reaches milestones or leaves phases behind. enjoy every moment of her. i know i do. she’s just a doll!

anne - So not only is she smart, but she’s fashionable???
So fancy!
🙂 not to mention unbelievably creative (i WONDER where she gets that from ;)…)
🙂

Rach - She looks so happy with herself. That must be amazing to watch and then slink off into the kitchen with a box of tissues and wonder where your baby went. I am looking forward to that moment with my daughter with fondness and fear.

Sandra - Oh, but “Mommy” you would be worried if she wasn’t progressing! Such sweet pictures of a darling little girl. Is the sense of style hers, or do you pick what she wears?
btw, I had a granddaughter here last week who asked for pancakes, and I remembered the recipe you gave for your husband’s pancakes, so I used it. She and I both loved them!

MGF - Fun…
I have the same clock that you have in that last picture. I think it is funny the things you see in someone’s photos.
I am sad and happy both to think of the days when all my kids can spell. I am still a few years away.

Denise - Hi Meg…I was heartbroken for you too. Then I scrolled down just enough for the previous post to peek out…she’s still a baby! Look at that face: precious. Thanks for sharing your life with us. The good, the sometimes bad, but never ugly. How do you take such amazing pictures??

Taddie Tales - WOW! I just went back and looked at your blog from day one to see how she’s grown. Time flies! My 3 year old was on Santa’s lap this past weekend and she looked like a 7 or 8 year old. I freaked and started to cry. Good thing it was at a family party – and no one thought there was a psycho lady in the house.
I just wish that they would stay small and needy but yet I can’t wait until they no longer need me to feed, dress, and wash them and I’ll have a little more “me” time. No, wait! I can wait….. bigh sigh!

Sara - Awww!!! My youngest is 6 and i feel that time is going so fast!!!! I love all your photos!!!!!

Amanda Rettke - Oh my dear. PLease, let me pretend that babies do NOT grow up! I took a picture of my 2 year old yesterday and when I went to edit it…I just sat and started at it. He looked…so mature… so *old*. It was startling. I feel your pain. Kinda. I am not there yet… as I am less than 2 weeks away from delivering a baby. But you know what I mean right? A little bit? Tiny little bit??
Anywho.
Have a blessed day!
Amanda

Trish - I feel it sister! My ‘baby’ just turned five and while he has no interest in knowing how to spell anything he has reached some milestones that just make me want to weep (with joy of course!)
I think as mothers we have the hardest job. Raising them, teaching them, loving them and then having to let them grow up.
She is adorable though!

carissa - okay… your “baby”… Annie… is a smarty pants… one smart cookie girlfriend! spelling elephant & flamingo… “YES”… for sure!
sooooo fun Meg!

Bethany - Aww….how bittersweet that is indeed!! My little guy is four as well and wants to know how to spell EVERYTHING. Although a little exhausting at some times, it is so fun to see him so eager to learn!
And can I tell you I LOVE the composition on that first shot?! Too cute my friend!!

Jamie Sampson - I am in love with the first photo. It is so cute. She is adorable and I agree she looks way TOO young to be spelling words like flamingo and elephant. 🙂 The blog rocks, like always.

kristine - you want them to be able to do everything… but then you’re like “wait, you can do that?! no! stay a baby! i insist!”
do i dare ask? where did you get your christmas stockings? or did you make them?!? 🙂

kathy b - When I began reading your blog she was “naughty baby”. I feel your pain.
Kathy b

kasey - I know just how you feel! my little guy is 3 and I always call him “the baby”.
dang they get big fast.

Lanny Stanard - just remember she will always be you baby! she’s a keeper that’s for sure!
Lanny=)

Staci - Oh I love her arms of accomplishment picture 🙂 She’s brilliant…and cute too!

Lorilee - Adorable. That is my favorite age. Could be why I teach four-year-olds! I love her outfit!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Alyssa - What a bittersweet day for you. I can see the smile on your face and the little tear in the corner of your eye as I read this post.
so happy and proud
yet why do they have to grow so fast?

Angie Seaman - Oh girl….I just love that shot of her feet under the table. So clever! Great eye sista’! Great eye! It is hard to imagine that they grow up like this so fast – even though we watch it happening before our eyes. I’m the same way with my 5 year old daughter and our 9 year old son. Too big too quick!
Also, I wanted to thank you for posting my “CUPCAKES” post on your sidebar too. I kept getting all of this traffic from your site all of a sudden and couldn’t figure out why. Then I saw it…CUPCAKES! Hee hee! I really appreciate you putting it on your blog. You are too sweet gur-fren!
Thanks again and have fun with those shots. I wish we lived closer to one another, we could embark on shooting fests with each out and about around town while our kiddo’s were in school. Now wouldn’t that be a blast…!???!
Big hugs girlie,
Angie Seaman

Lisa - So precious, you must also be so proud of her.
take care,
Lisa

Liz - Aw Meg. This makes me wish I could give you a big hug. But on a more positive note… I’m amazed at how clean your floor is in that first shot. I notice things like that b/c my floors are, well, horrendous right now. 🙂

Nessa Dee - Bittersweet indeed. These are great shots, though!
Thanks for all of the advent calender links….I used them as reference to make my own!

a thorn among roses - it happens. darn it. they grow up and then, well, they won’t let us take pics! booo. she is so precious!

for the grandmas

IMG_0702

we crammed 37 preschoolers into one sunday school room with nothing to do but wait.

IMG_0692

we waited.
and sang…ate a snack…played a few non-talking games…
then waited some more.

IMG_0705

then we waited in the hallway…

IMG_0708

then finally after 4 weeks of practicing….
and 45 minutes of waiting…
they sang for 1 minute and it was over.
but it was the best jingle bells and go tell it on the mountain i have ever heard.

IMG_0713

but maybe i am a little biased.

even though it was very cute i am glad it's done.
and i am glad i put on extra deodorant before i went.

Heidi - love the pics, especially all the crafting ideas! i’m not a huge craft making person, but i want to start doing more and seeing you do them with pictures of the finished product is encouraging. thanks for sharing!
love this blog! don’t know how you do it all:)

Robin Laws - look at that header!! wooo hooo for youuu!!!! very nice work there. very nice indeed. and i do think the larger than life photos draw your visitors closer in to your life, your blog. i adore, simply love that first photo with annie all 0 and singing her heart out like a norman rockwell painting! you have perfect children 🙂
XOXOX
p.s i am glad for the upswing in visitors…double? wow! now can you help me figure out how to do the same thing at my place??
🙂

a thorn among roses - we had a program much the same sunday…and my #3 ran off the stage screaming. yep, it’s true! love the pics!

Suzanne - I can just imagine the torture being felt by the parents, I mean kids, in the back room;)
Those programs are the stuff video cameras & still cameras are made for…too priceless!!
Glad you ALL made it through!

Alyssa - so cute and I am not a grandma either….adorable

carissa - deodorant… so funny… i sweat like a nut when i am anxious too!
the sounds of children singing…
you hear it in your HEART!
what great pics Meg… SO glad you shared!

katie - hahhahahaha…extra deodorant!! nothing like a room full of kids to make you TOTALLY pit out your clothing. It happens everytime I volunteer in the classroom…phew!
what a darling night…i ALWAYS cry when children sing..i can’t help it!

traci - The first picture and what you said CRACKS ME UP..lol
For some reason I had in my head that you went to a sm. church but from the amount of kids in that group you do not go to a sm. church!!! How lg. is your church? Great photos…as always.
Nothing better than the kids program!!!

Trina - Wow, girl you must have an extra helping of patience from above but I’m sure that extra deodorant helped out 😉

Jess - cute pictures! I borrowed your idea for putting the ornaments in seperate boxes for the kids….awesome idea! great for my 2 and 4 year olds who went a little ballistic when they saw the huge box of decorations….they went right to work with their own!!!

sara's art house - I am so there with you- ours is next week…thank goodness they are cute!

Ashley - Those are so great. The deodorant comment cracked me up! And – yes – I’ll still be posting pictures just not crazy amounts of sessions like I was. I love photography, but the stress related to the juggling act with kids just isn’t worth it. Also, I am SO JEALOUS of the ornaments you posted earlier. Our tree is all non-breakables. It is really ugly, but the boys are proud of it so I guess that is what matters right? At least that is what I tell myself!

Amanda - Those kids look adorable! I recognize Childrens Place clothes anywhere…its one of my favorite splurges for mine…
And your pictures are priceless! Is it ok if Im not a grandma and I still like them? he he
God bless-
Amanda

Heather - 🙂 I occasionally lead in the children’s division at our church and let me tell you — shorts and t-shirt (to say nothing of the extra deodorant) would be sooooo much more appropriate than heels! My kindergarten boy has his Christmas program tomorrow night. Should be entertaining!

Lori - My kids are 17 and 13, and I sooo miss that sweetness! What cuties!

meaghan easterhaus - that’s the best!!!!!!! nothing better!!!

amy j. - Lawson was so disappointed he wasn’t there! But I’m sure those 37 pre-school parents appreciate that he was gone. Darn yucky germs at our house!

Jennifer - Too funny! It’s like a wedding — all prep — and then you blink and it’s over!
They look so darn cute though!
Smiles,
Jen

Queenie Bee - As a former preschool music teacher, I’m feelin’ your pain sister! 🙂
soooooooo incredibly cute though!

Shannan - So precious! And I’m still stunned over the second picture of the doe-eyed, curly topped beauty. She reminds me SO MUCH of my Ruby. If you know her mom, could you please ask her what products she uses on her hair? It looks like the exact texture of Ruby’s, and what can I say, I’m getting a little desperate here. 🙂

mom - Thanks for sharing that with us grandmas. So wish we could have been there. I am very proud of Annie – tell her that, please!

PamperingBeki - Awww, CUTE!!
There was a time before we had kids that we were visiting a church at Christmas-time. The children got up and sang and I cried through the whole thing! Haha! I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever and couldn’t wait to have kids of my own to watch do that.

traci - nothing like adorable kids singing christmas carols to get you in the christmas spirit. cute!!

casey Ohmen - I know exactly what you were going through. I am an x-preschool teacher and have done that routine many times. In the end it is all worth it and you are so proud of each of them. Looks like fun.

Lorilee - Four years old has to be the most fun age! I guess that is why I am teaching that age! heh heh! Those four year olds are absolutely adorable!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Sandy - The behind the scenes pictures reminds of American Idol – and you just never know, do you?!
I’m glad it went well.
By the way, last night I had a dream that I met you. How crazy is that?!
Sandy
Troy, OH

sharanya - 🙂 Sweet and precious

Jenny - Gorgeous!
Love the first photo with the mouths wide open singing.

presents that need to get made…

but once i go in i don't want to leave.
i better stay out of there today.

froufrougrl - I am SO envious of your vintage ornaments!! I have an aluminum tree that they would look perfect on… hehe!!

Michelle Allen - i love that you have people BEGGING to come over to your studio! lol

Michelle Allen - i just bought some felt. can’t wait to see your garland cause i can’t decide what i’m going to do with the felt. you’re pictures and how you take them are inspiring. how do you do that?! what is that in your hot cocoa?

carissa - how in the world you can stay OUT of your craft room… what a gem of place! GOODNESS in it’s purest form!

Heather - I so enjoy your posts and pics! Truly inspiring. How did the felt garland project go? Once I read that on your to-do list, I went searching for pics/ideas and now I can’t let the idea go! And I am not uber-crafty and talented so the results should be entertaining:)

brittany - sounds like a fun day!…yeah I’m not picky about my nap times either!

traci - it is easy to get sucked in there. but some days you need that.

Julie - I too have a craft room and it is totally covered in everything that I took down to put up our christmas!!! Yikes… I feel like I could just find a corner in there and go to sleep though… I love your craft room and I love mine too!!

Sara - Wow,I love that you have a craft room!!! My to do list is to long to post,LOL!!!! Good luck!!!!

meaghan easterhaus - girl, you are getting so much love from ohdeedoh! my summer pic was featured on there once…i love them! xoxo

Kari - I just want you to know that you inspire me! Everything you do is so full of bright, colorful, sweet joy! It’s so fun to look at your photos because it’s all so cheerful! It brightens my day! Thanks!

LuLu - I want to hide in your craft room. My Saturday sounds very similar! too much to do and wanting to play with crafts!! Your pictures are beautiful.

sarah - I love the little ornaments and the box they’re in.
Where’d you pick those up at?
You have lots of lovely things and a lovely craft room, I’d personally never leave your house if I lived there 🙂

Mrs.H - That hot chocolate looks yum!! pass the recipe please?? And what project are you doing with the grosgrain ribbon? looks so cute. I love your blog. Your family reminds me of ours. We have 5 kiddos also.

Rach - I know the feeling of being sidetracked. Happens to me all the time. I swear I was supposed to vacuum today and I got caught up making a wine label for a newly engaged friend of mine. The carpets can wait, eh?

meredith - Photos are just beautiful, makes one feel you could step right into them. What an Aladdin’s cave your craft room is. Maybe your kids could give you a “gift voucher” from them that entitles you to an interruption free weekend in there! Hope you’re having fun today.

Lorilee - I love the vintage ornaments! They remind me of my Granny’s tree!
Blessings,
Lorilee

danyele - love all the colors as usual…i did get a chance to get a few little bulby treats today! so much fun. now, pass the hot chocolate!

MGF - Lovely vintage decorations.

Trina - Oh.. good luck with the list.. I’m trying to make a list so I don’t feel like I HAVE to do certain things today although there is always a list going on in my head (BTW I was cracking up at the comment you left me). I love those ornament balls.. wish I could buy ones that looked aged like that! I’m about to do some baking too, it’s cold and snowy today (perfect for baking). Chocolate chip pie for us! xx Trina

Mrs Be - Oh you lucky thing, you have something called a craft room. I would love one of those.
I’m all for no.6. Very important!
Debx

traci - How do you make felt garland????? Please do tell?????

jennifer - Our lists are exactly the same! Except for number five, which I’ll replace with going to chop down a tree. Should be interesting…
Have a wonderful day!~
