***************************************************************************************
Homiesfinalheadershorter

There are awards for all sorts of blogs, but no one ever pays enough attention to the shelter blogs, so we started The Homies. It's our way of surveying the blogosphere each year for the best new home design blogs and sharing what we find. It's not so much a competition as a celebration of the richness and awesomeness of shelter bloggers around the world. Join us, share your favorites and check out the ones you don't know.

There are five categories and none of our blogs or past winners are eligible. The prizes? $50 to the winner of each category and lots of traffic as we publish the five winners in a big congratulatory post across our network on January 6th. We want to elevate good home blogs, see who you love and gain awareness for the home niche.

christmas gift?

Gc

you could ask for this for christmas….a gift certificate for pictures!

OR you could give it for christmas.

it would be loved by everyone.
grandmas could give the gift and make their kids happy
AND themselves by getting pictures for their wall.

we can get creative….it could be a newborn baby shoot…
or an engagement shoot.
a maternity photo session
senior pictures….
an anniversary gift.
a birthday gift …40? 60? 99?

anything you can think up….we can probably make it work.

Gcgc

 ha ha ha ha ha

contact me with my email link at the top left to buy yours.

watch simpsons - It’s a great pleasure for me to read this awesome ideas you have shared to us. I really appreciate this site.

ptc - hi, nice post.I have been pondering this topic,so thanks for sharing.i’ll probably be coming back to your blog.Keep up great writing…..

Brysen - It’s about time smoeone wrote about this.

the knotty bride - I’m late in seeing this, so I’m commenting to dead air, but I just had to say that this is seriously, seriously, adorable. i’ve spread the word on my blog… that shoot is quality idea and I’m doing my part to make it happen.

UK Dissertation Writing - Whenever i see the post like your’s i feel that there are still helpful people who share information for the help of others, it must be helpful for other’s. thanx and good job.
http://www.mastersdissertation.co.uk/

linda - when george gets there call me…amy d’s Mom
hahahaha!!!

Tanya - That is awesome! I hope George contacts you 🙂

Jeannine - If only I lived closer! I would LOVE to have a photo session with you!
I suppose Vancouver’s a bit too far of a drive? Hahaha =)
On the plus side, Mr. Clooney comes up here every once in awhile!

tami reed - That is such a great idea< you realy think out of the box!

bobbie - I will so assist you on that shoot. Do you need a kidney or anything?? haha. He is so dreamy. I would do a photoshoot if we were closer! If you’re ever in Houston, let me know!

Dina - HA!!! LOVE IT!!!! When you set that up, will you contact me and I’ll be your assistant, free of charge of course:-)

gina - I wish i lived near you. This would be so fun! Boo. 🙁

Jessica - I have a cousin that knows of you through a friend that wants to have her family pictures taken by you! I’ll have to forward this on to her husband!

Lindsay - Seems like there are at least 2 of us in Seattle who want you to come out this way- wonder if we could get a Northwest Weekend for Meg arranged?

Meredith - Um, slight problem with the Gift Certificate for George. If you happen to be reading my blog, you will have noticed that he is pre-occupied with kid-wrangling in my home at present and peeling me the occasional grape. What can I say? He was insistent.
I’ll let him know that when he’s finished, there is a particularly gorgeous house in Kansas that requires his services. He’s good like that. Meredith xo.

Nancy - This just might make me move back to KS. What a great idea.

Mandi - If you ever want to make a trip to Chattanooga, TN for pictures, let me know! :0)

purejoy - can’t wait to see the clooney shoot. mmmmm. forget the licorice, how bout a little george eye-candy!!?

Diana - ROTFL! that’s cute 😀
what do you charge for a shoot and all it involves? hmmm, that’s probably a dumb question since each can be so different. maybe a ball park figure what people spend?

heather h - my kids came to the computer saying “what’s so funny mom? MoM! why are you laughing so hard?” 😉 cute! i loved it. now…i’m trying to figure out how to justify the plane tickets for 8 that my gift card request would entail…if i get that figured out I will be paypaling you tonight! 😉

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Do you do house calls…..to Amish country, USA?

Sara @ Queen of the House - why is the word boudoir so funny to me?

misty - I wonder if george knows how lucky he is to have you take his photos 😉

Courtney Walsh - Oh my gosh, count me as one of the ones who spit my coffee at the screen. I scrolled down and saw “Boudoir” and thought, “I didn’t know she shot boudoir shots…” and then I realized the recipient was specified and that’s whent he spitting occurred.
Hysterical. 🙂

Kimberlee J. - Just think— I really did meet George Clooney on my honeymoon. What? I’ve already told you that? It must’ve slipped my mind. 🙂

Christy - I would drive to KS if I received that as a gift! I have family in MO, so it’s not too much of a stretch. 🙂
PS. I would gladly be your assistant (free of charge, of course) to help with the Mr. Clooney session!

Kara - I wish I lived a little closer to Kansas… 🙂 that would be on my list for sure!

pve - I would love that!
pve

Magchunk - I live a little too far away (Seattle)… but my sister lives in Chicago. Hmm….
Hope you’ll be posting George’s boudoir photos on the blog 😉 I think we’d all chip in for that gift certificate!

Stephanie Carroll - If only I lived in Kansas.

Sandy - Would love to, but I live too far away…I LOVE your photography style! 🙁

No.17CherryTreeLane - laughed loudly in my living room while my child was sleeping.
Hilarious.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh what I wouldn’t do to actually get that first g/c in the mail. I would love to have our family pics taken by you. That would be a perfect Christmas gift.
I saw you signed up yesterday to follow along on my blog…YIPPEE! I’m such a goof I know, but I just love your blog:) It was the one that made me want to start my own:) Isn’t that cool. Have a great weekend Meg.

April - and thank you for the laugh…..hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
too funny Meg….too funny….

Shar - come to Houston!
meanwhile, what is the font called that you did George Clooney’s name in? i have been looking for that font!
thanks!

adrienneK - ha ha so funny!!!

Lisa - I would like to participate in the session with George! He filmed his movie ‘Up’ here in St. Louis and I wasn’t able to get a glimpse of him no matter how much I stalked him! 🙂

danyele - you crack me up…and i want to see the pics when you are done. 😉

jennifer - Ha.Larious!
Would love to do a photo shoot with you Megan! Maybe next time I’m out visiting my sister? Or I could fly you to CA to snap some quick shots so I could send last minute Christmas cards. Yeah…

A pocket full of posies... - Too funny!- wish I lived closer I would totally be asking Santa for this!
Blessings!
Jill

traci - can i assist you on that shoot. love him. he beats “team edward” or “team jacob” anyday!!! his new movie looks great!!!

i need some help.

what would YOU get a 9 year old boy for christmas?

we are clueless.

he doesn't want legos anymore…thank goodness because we probably have 10,000.

HELP ME.

Rebekah Brummel - A little late but b-day. . . . Lazer Tag, a kick n’ go scooter, a Razor rip rider, hmmm. . that’s all I’ve got

Michelle Richmond - There is sport out there called “Staking”. You buy the cups and time yourself with a mat which is inlcuded and a timer….then you stack and unstack the cups to see how fast you can do it. Bought it for my daughters last year and they loved them….Go online and google stacking cups. Good luck.

Trish - my nine year old boy asked for an archery set and a pocket knife…..
I found both at http://www.visionforum.com
that website was so much fun to browse!!
both of those gifts will come with strict rules and a written responsibility contract that he must read and sign but I know that he is going to LOVE them!

p/f - remember mini RC’s? They were a big hit at Radio Shack more than a few years ago. I got my son’s friend one in the section of Target where all of the Air Hogs stuff lives. It was the biggest hit of the birthday party. Who knew?

Austin - -Ninetendo DS and a pokemon game.
-A junior tool kit (real)
-A BB gun and some rules if you have a big back yard.
-Night vision above was a good idea.
-Microscope/telescope/chemistry kit
-walkie-talkie’s.
-Old but classic computer games that will work on your systems- Civilization, Tiberian Sun, Age of Empires. (All three should cost about 20 dollars).

Michelle - My son (now 10) says his BEST gift EVER was the metal detector he got last Christmas. He takes it outside with him…or if we go to Grandma’s, or the park…He loves to “treasure hunt”. He generally finds coins and bottle caps…. he has found a ring,… All of these finds are treasures to him…. because he “detected” them and dug them up… keeps him outside and active…

Carrie - Well my 8 year old nephew is obsessed with Bakugan, so that is what he is getting. They are priced very well and are actually pretty cool.
If you don’t want to go the toy route, a digital camera is a fun idea. They have them in quite a range of price points.
Good luck!

elizabeth - The catalog Museum Tour has a lot of cool stuff. I have an 8 year old boy and an 11 year old, and this year they’re getting (to share!) one of those Razor motorbikes? I’m probably crazy but I think they’re going to be so excited — it’s totally NOT something that I ordinarily would buy. They’re expensive, though, so I only bought one and they’ll just have to share…

mrs. biscuit - I just wanted to thank you for this post. The only person left to buy for on my xmas list….my 8 year old brother! I had NO ideas. Now I have a ton! Thanks!

La Tempête - A puppy (lol). Something gooey and slimey. Spy stuff.

Shairee - Two things I haven’t seen as suggestions – FABLEHAVEN (the best 4 books ever!!!) also, I got my 9 year old boy a “fanny pack” and put in a pocket knife combo thing, a compass, carabeeners, waterbottle, small package of ropes, cool first aid kit from walmart – came in a little pouch, (could do walkie talkies) little bungee cords with the hooks on the end, and a few other boy scout-ish things. We got him a metal detector for his birthday and really he loved it but its a gift hes only used a very few times (meaning 2-3) so if you dont mind your yard having holes in random places…go ahead 🙂

Jill - What about a gift card to a place where he could do “manly” things like rock climbing or hitting baseballs? It’s kinda two pronged cuz it’s a gift and it’s the gift of time spent with dad!

Jamie - I saw a very cool paper airplane book at JoAnn Fabrics. It looked really great. It showed you how to make all sorts of paper airplanes in it had a pocket in the back with cool patterned paper. Good luck!

Deputy's Wife - Well, I’m glad someone else is having problems buying for their 9 year old son. He does have some Legos on his list, and an iPod, and spy gear. I don’t even know what he wants to do with the spy gear.

Lisa - My son is 9 and I think that we’re finally getting him a DS (not the new one…he doesn’t need to surf the net!). We’re on the fence but he’s been asking for years and I think that this is definitely the last year that he’s going to believe in Santa (the only thing he’s asking Santa for is the DS…he’s sort of got us backed into a corner!). He’s also asked for a sports watch and football jerseys. It definitely gets harder as they get older. He just pulled out a microscope that he got last year and is liking that…are you still doing the one gift thing? That definitely makes it hard b/c you want something that will “wow” him. What about an iPod nano w/an iTunes gift card?
Good Luck!

CAROL B - xbox

Sonja - Wow! 9-year old boy…I’m not far behind, as I have a 7-year old. We’re kind of into science and the environment here, so how about a microscope (a good one), an ant farm, subscription to National Geographic, a GPS, a pet (?)…we had the EyeClops last Christmas, but not for the squeemish…I couldn’t bear knowing what was lurking in my carpet (we found nothing, but it’s still icky!) LOL!
Good luck!!

Julie - I work with kids of all ages, and I was in charge of obtaining their Christmas lists for a party some volunteers are hosting. The boys of that age have asked for Rubik’s Cubes, remote control cars, MP3 players, how-to-draw books, legos, comic books, and probably more things I’m forgetting! There are so many great ideas here!

jody - *New large Nerf N-force swords are out; red or black.
*Wii or DS games
*Books–Harry Potter, Percy Jackson books (movie comes out in February)
*ipod
*my son LOVES playmobil things–castles, knight sets, etc. I got some great deals on castles/etc. from ebay last year.
*keyboard…try craigslist…?
good luck!
Now, can you help me with my 7 year old girl? Help!
xxoo

tami reed - Gift Card my son is turning 10 and Im always stumped since im so girly lol

Tamra - my 6 and 7 year old girls’ best friend is a boy turning 9 just before Christmas. For his birthday he is getting a ream of paper, an Ed Emberley drawing book, a clipboard and coloured pencils.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Seems to me all the kids want something electronic. A Wii or DSI whatever that is, skateboard or ipod. I’m just as clueless…sorry:)

bje - tech deck boards or trip flix bikes 🙂

Nicole Quiring - Does he like Science stuff? We found Myth Busters (like the show) stuff at toys r us. THey had kits that discovered 4 things each, They were 16.99. We got them for Ian whose 7 and he’ll need help doing them so for a nine year old he’d be perfect. Ian just loves to watch that show wiht Jason. They also have all sorts of hands on science stuff/expieriment/csi stuff on that same aisle. good luck!!

stodd - My nephew got a flip video thing last year and we had a BLAST with it! My sister-in-law just got one at Costco for $100 and their whole family’s having a lot of fun making videos and uploading them to the computer.

Kait - I second all the comments about books and want to add Harry Potter and The Mysterious Benedict Society. What about board games like Apples to Apples or checkers or a books of card games and a deck of cards? Digital cameras are a hit and you can find one at basically any price point.

Lisa K in FL - Oh, I would be happy to buy your unused legos! 🙂

Meg - According to my 9 1/2 year old he would recommend the Percy Jackson series of books.. then, an IPOD Nano, then a PSP..

Alaina - How about a digital camera? That’s what we got our 9-year-old! Then he can learn to download them on the computer, tweak them and print them. Then maybe he can teach me how to do it!!

Donna - My son is nine and will turn ten before Christmas. He loves to read, so Narnia, Harry Potter and Whimpy Kid books are hits. He also loves his rip stick, video games and Nerf toys (basketball hoop and nerf dart gun). He has an i-touch and loves getting music for trips. He just got into star wars with his younger brother, and all my children are into sports. The boys are getting zoobs for Christmas and also games the whole family can play. Hope this helps!

Gratsia - how about an experience like go-karts or horse riding or paintballing or something like that that he can “cash in on” when he wants as his gift. Or I second the motion on something tech related or console gaming etc. There’sthis site its for techie boy tweens gifts nice ideas at various price ranges http://www.target.com/Tween-Mr-Techie/b?ie=UTF8&node=1294133011
xx

purejoy - my son is 19 and is STILL obsessed with magic tricks and card tricks. how about a juggling book from klutz? how about his own tools so he can build stuff? what fun to shop for a little guy on the verge of being a big guy. soooo fun.

deb meyers - thinkgeek.com
: )
deb meyers

Georgia - Sports equipment? or Super hero stuff.
Roller blades!!! – had so much fun with them when i was young!! 🙂

aubrey - How about a Whoopie Cushion? Seriously.
Since I have no experience and other people already gave lots of good ideas, all I can think of is something Nerf-y. Don’t boys like balls at every age? 🙂

sarah - I have no idea what boys in general really want.
And a 9 year old might be the toughest age ever.
I am no help.
Sorry 🙁

se7en - Hiking Gadgets, padlocks, books (Science books, gadget books, how cool things work – check out the Dorling Kindersley website: http://www.dk.com) – our nine year old totally loved a digital camera, a cool backpack… Now my two year old due for a birthday and with a number of siblings towering above her has no possessions and desires nothing, but I sure would like to give her something!!! We used to say this at school: Can’t think, Brain numb, Inspiration Won’t Come, Bad Ink, Worse Pen, Best Wishes, Amen.

Beth Ann - Metal detector? Wait that is my THIRTY-NINE year old husband that wanted one of those. Seriously I got my younger brother one several years back and it was a hit. Walmart.com has several, at various price points.

Jilly - My nephew is about to turn 9 and I got him one of those big posters at Michael’s that have the geometric shapes that you color along with a gigantic set of markers. I also got him 1000 piece puzzles and books, he loves any kinds of books. There are some awesome ideas on here though, I am glad I read them all, because now I have more ideas too!!!

Jennifer - My 9 year old wants Bakugan and Spy Gear. Hope this helps

Sophie - How about a ripstick? 9 year old boys here in Oz seem to love them!!

danyele - hmmmm…chocolate??

Toni :O) - Oh man, those Diary of a Wimpy kid books are GREAT! I even loved them and I’m mom! The Nerf guns (especially the big one that breaks out into a smaller one) is a MAJOR hit! Fortunately in our house, Lego’s still rule…especially the Ferrari and Lamborghini ones! Good luck!

Michelle - My son is 10 and he loves those little tech decks and flip tricks bikes.

Renee - I asked a woman at Target how old her son was (b/c I had to buy a gift for someone I’d never met who is eight). Her son is nine and he’s all about swords and guns (Nerf-style). Sounds awful. I’m sorry. 🙂 xoxo

jennifer - It’s all about the Wii at our house. Don’t know if you have one, but some of the favorite games here are the Lego games… Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Rock Band.

Amy - That is a tough age. Older ds is 9 turning 10 next week, so I have to come up with birthday and Christmas ideas for this in between stage. I am getting him an erector set. Erector also makes a little electronic screwdriver type device for putting the sets together, which he thought was the coolest thing when he saw one at the store. I’m also getting him an ipod nano. I hunted around for a deal and finally found the $150 nano model for $115. Other ideas – telecope, microscope, roller blades, monoploy, camera. Good luck, and let us know what you come up with.

Mary - Tether ball. We got one for our 9 year old last Christmas and he and his friends still enjoy playing with it.

Mindy - Zoobs- Buy a big set (over 75) because Dad will want to play too.

Patti - what about a magic kit? or a book about card tricks and a deck of cards? I remember my brother being into that stuff when we were little. good luck!

jeanne - My son is nine and he still likes Legos and Star Wars…I would have no idea beyond that. He also likes his PSP and computer games. He loves his different bikes and being outside with his dad. Jack also loves Nerf guns. Good luck!!!

Vicki - I didn’t read all the comments so hopefully I’m not duplicating someone else’s idea.
My son is 9 and all of a sudden into anything “electronic”. He asked for a few things out of the Young Explorers catalog (youngexplorers.com). We also just got a catalog from Discovery Kids that he found some things in (kind of cool – night vision goggles, spy things, etc.) He wants a digital camera and if I could get past him being on my computer for it, I might give in! 😉
Good luck!

Sara @ Queen of the House - eyeclops night vision goggles? My oldest son really wants those. I have a link saved where you can get them for 39.99 w/ free shipping. let me know if you’re interested. 🙂

Melanie - I don’t have a clue. My son is 15 yrs. old and he asked for an Ipod Touch. That is what he is getting and I just spent a fortune on clothes since we moved up north. He didn’t have anything and that took up a big chunk.

Nathalie - Oh I am in the same boat as you. My son just made his list out last night and it was full of stuff I refuse to spend anymore money on… like Pokemon Cards and Baqubak… Trying to get something that he will actually play with is a challenge.

Mother Runner - ps – cool header.

Mother Runner - something gross.

kasey - when you find out…please let me know as well;-)
xo

alice - i think you should get him a kitten…and i just happen to have 4 to spare :O). i could probably deliver them if need be – lol! merry christmas!

Laura Phelps - Diary of a Wimpy kid books
pottery barn (or knock off) basket ball hoop for room (think you have one already)
football
do you have the wii? if so, games for the wii
i pod
music
skate board
air hockey table
my boy is 10, and we are having BIG ISSUES
he wants an i pod touch.
have you seen the price?
have you met my son?
this is not a good idea
BUT
it is all he wants
I keep telling him how expensive it is, but he keeps saying it is OK because SANTA will get it
this is the first time I wish the kid didn’t believe!

Elizabeth McDonald - My 9 year old son has been keeping a Christmas list for months…..It is literally ALL books..except for two things:
Gap sport watch
nutcracker.he wants to start a collection!
Good luck!

Rebecca S. - Roller blades + hockey stick + hockey BALL (what not a hockey puck? NO! a hockey BALL). My brother LOVE LOVE LOVED playing driveway hockey–which requires a ball, not a puck–at that age, and of course since I wanted to grow up to be him at that the time, I LOVED it too! And if you have a cement floor in your basement (like we did) he can even play in the winter!

Chiot's Run - How about a rock tumbler, I always wanted one of these as a kid. Camping stuff is cool too, although that means you have to take him camping 🙂 I like everyone’s idea of a camera as well, that is great for creativity and it doesn’t really cost much afterwards. I also second the Narnia books, I got a really nice set of those when I was about 8-9 and I read and re-read them so many times we had to get them rebound. Now my nieces are loving them (the oldest is 8).

Teri - Erector sets- they have little tiny pieces and tools! And they have some that are remote control

Staci - Oh YIKES!!! I’m sorry, I’m absolutely NO help…mine are just 4 and 7….so legos are still the bomb!!! But I’m soooo reading your comments and tucking them away for whenever he does make it to that stage!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Jenny - Meg, my sister just got her 10 year old son one of those portable movie projectors. Only about $70, they can take it to their rooms with friends and watch a movie on the wall or closet door.

Christy - My son is only six/1st grade, but the boys in the neighborhood he plays with are older 9 & up, they like:
-Ramps to ride bikes/skateboards (have seen as low as $30 at TRU)
-Magnetix – but if he is doen with legos, maybe not?
-Bakugan – just scored a 6 pack for $10 at Target last week
-Skateboards
-Skater shoes, hats, gear (or motorcross) – boys here like -FOX racing
-RC cars/planes, etc.
-Drawing books, sketch books, (learn to draw), etc.
-Tek Decks & ramps
-Webkinz – still which kind of surprises me.
-Balls – basketball, soccer, outdoor hockey stuff, etc.
-Razor scooters – we have an electric one, but they all prefer the regular, go figure!
-One boy I knew recived a small safe for his b-day & it was such a huge hit! He could keep money or special treasures in there.
-A rock tumbler machine – just bought one at Michael’s fro my son, it was $30, but I used a coupon.
-Telescope
-Micro-scope
-Ultimate kid conncotion book – they have it at Michael’s too.

Stephanie Carroll - I’m all about bicycles, skateboards, basketball, football, baseball, nerf, water guns, laser tag set…anything they can do outside.
With that said, I also don’t have kids.

Stephanie - We are getting our 9 year old boy a big Big BIG nerf gun. He also found at our local book store The Daring Book For Boys. So he is getting that as well. Along with Super Mario for the Wii. He also loves yo yos and we found a neat wooden one at Starbucks (stocking stuffer)
Good Luck!

Liliana - Well, being that I’m not sure what your son is “into” I would just say…a digital camera b/c my son ALWAYS wants to take mine when he goes on field trips or a friends birthday party. Or maybe an ipod (touch), we are getting these 2 things for our 10-year old. He loves music & WE will do ALL the downloading so we know what he will be listening to.

Lori - How about Guiness Book of World Records or Ripley’s Believe it or Not books? My son is 11 and he still asks for the new ones of these every year. And baseball cards or basket ball cards if he is into sports. My son can sit for hours studying the facts on the back of the cards and organizing them by team. What about a nerf hoop–one that hangs on his closet door–can’t go wrong with that–you might go a little crazy with the noise, but you can’t go wrong.

Lacy Brauner - ask him! Im sure he’ll be more than happy to give some imput! LOVE your banner!

Ruth - Show him these:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/st3f4n/sets/72157616350171741/
And then give him a digital camera.
My eight year old has the most fun with things that he can use in more than one way. Some of his favorites are marble tracks, race tracks he can design himself, and the electronics set he got for Christmas last year.

Bec - The Chronicles of Narnia! Or The Invention of Hugo Cabret!!! This is kind of the age to make or break ’em as a reader :)Remote control cars are cool too

Art Cant Hurt - the comments are full of such great ideas
here’s my two cents: build-your-own soda can robot!
my son has done it and it’s way cool! any kit by 4M is great! i recommend them all the time! here’s a site that sells the soda can robot but you can get it on amazon.com also!
http://www.naturepavilion.com/grsctincanro.html
have fun! take care!

Jenn - My nine year old boy is getting books from R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series (they are his FAVE!), possibly a video game for the family Xbox, and HOPEFULLY a digital camera. Other ideas he/we had were: Handheld Electronic Soduku, other handheld electronic board games, movies (He has requested Transformers and Monsters vs. Aliens), and posters for his room.

Kate - a metal detector
a RC car Have a good one!!

Heather - I also like the idea of real camping equipment (not the kiddie version). Target sells the eddie bauer and coleman stuff which is generally pretty reliable as long as he’s not planning an Everest expidition. Especially headlamps (my son loves his) and flashlights, and they are useful, too!!

Ashley Crenshaw - I ALWAYS go to http://www.gifts.com. You pick the holiday/occassion and answer a couple questions about the age and interests of your gift recipient. There’s pages and pages of ideas, with the links to get the gifts. It has worked on every person that I’ve tried it for, so far. Hope that helps!

Dani - 9 year old boys are tough! LOL! My boy is 9 this year too. He asked for the 2 pack RC Helicopters from Costco. We’re not getting them(can you imagine the destruction that would happen in my living room?) but we are getting him a new RC car- he’s requested a yellow Camaro. Also he really wants the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. And a rubber band powered balsa wood airplane.
Other ideas-
Tech Decks
Bakugans
Science/Experiment kit
Digital Camera
New jeans- because every pair bought at the start of school has holes in the knees.
Board games- good for the whole family
Art/Craft supplies just for him
Hope that helps…

Amy - How ’bout a magazine subscription? Like a skateboarding one, or nature, or whatever? 🙂
My 6 year old daughter is receiving this one this year!
http://www.naturefriendmagazine.com/ It is really neat…drawing contests, stories, science projects, word searches etc….
Happy Wednesday!

Donna Bourgoin - I have 6 kids so I think through the years we have had every toy known to man. My boys loved and still do love the electronics………used to be Game Boy – what about Nintendo DS? I am not sure what price range you are looking at………but my advice is that I would rather spend the money on something they will use rather than buy lots of smaller items that they never touch. My kids have had those Nintendo DS’s for years – and then each year we can buy them new games 🙂

Renea - Meg, we got this book for both of our 9 year old nephews last year and they both loved it. it’s got a lot of cool info in it. http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=0312377061
I’ve seen another book like it, but I can’t remember the name of it.
Good luck!

Lane - I found this in the Brookstone catalog and I thought my 9 year old nephew would love it! It’s a pretty good price as well.
http://www.brookstone.com/Frog-O-Sphere-frogs.html?his=2%7E46337%7E2%7Eroot_category%40kwd%7Efrog&bkiid=searchResults|C4CategoryProdList1FDT|8335617

carissa... brown eyed fox - knock my socks off… i freaking LOVE your new banner.
you… you… always bring BIG smiles!
i have no idea on the gift… but sure looks like lots of GREAT ideas flowing in!

Amanda - We are shopping for a 9 year old boy too….I’ve head the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is the BIG thing for that age (if he likes to read), my nephew had Bakugan stuff on his list, as well as magnetix, and drawing stuff (like a “how to draw” book and art pad. Good luck….honestly, our nephew that’s this age is ALWAYS the last and hardest one of all the kids to shop for!

Girly Stuff - the helicopters are at Walmart also
super mario bros.
the magic treehouse books
spiral notebooks with pens/pencils to draw pictures in
toys r us has a true heroes line that is cool and reasonable
lego has a neat mp3 player and the music should be cheaper than itunes
lego rock band
that is all I can remember that we bought for my 8 year old this year
good luck!

shelly - Thanks for this post cause I had to really think about what my 9 would want this year: tech decks (totally pointless finger skateboards…I don’t know, but he likes them!), nerf guns, model fighter planes…he really wants a bb gun, but I told him “you’ll shoot your eye out!”. I’m not ready for him to have a pseudo real weapon yet!

CKHB - Microscope or telescope. Something science-y.

Amy C. - Mythbuster Weird World of Water. Under 20.00. I have 2 boys 9 and 6.They, of course, want more legos.

juliann brenner - Hi Megan – i love your new banner pic. does sean like to read? if so, i have a lot of friends who’s boys love the “G. A. Henty” series; total boy adventure books, lots of different time-period themes. kind of like historical fiction adventure books. look at rainbowresource.com and type in g.a. henty in the search area if you are interested. if you ever decide to get rid of any legos, we are in the market these days 🙂

Heather - My sons love those remote control helicopters? I think they’re called Airhogs. Very cool.

elma - Oh dear it is sooo hard:) My 11 year old son want more legos(you can end yours to me:)) He also loves anything sports. Have a great day!

sandy toe - Oh..it’s a hard age…
my son likes the kinex..magnetic roller coasters (age 9 and up)
books, scooter, nerf guns, wii, walkie talkies,
sandy toe

sandy toe - Oh..it’s a hard age…
my son likes the kinex..magnetic roller coasters (age 9 and up)
books, scooter, nerf guns, wii, walkie talkies,
sandy toe

Heather - Well, nuts, I was going to say Legos:) How about a remote control helicopter (they come cheap — there’s a two pack at Costco)? Camera? Models to build with dad. Science experiment kits.
Good luck!

Holly - Now, if you had asked what to get for a little girl I would have told you a giftcard to Clare’s or Icing or somewhere like that. But when it comes to boys I am clueless. Your kids seem to have an affinity for art, it might be a good idea to get him a sketch pad and art supplies. Maybe something like this http://www.amazon.com/Artist-Studio-Art-Set-Wooden/dp/B000TRVWII/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1259764737&sr=8-18

Regina - Guiness Book of world records 2010

Jill - This book:
Mr. Chickee’s Funny Money by Christopher Curtis
http://www.amazon.com/Chickees-Funny-Money-Christopher-Curtis/dp/0440229197/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259764372&sr=8-1
It is witty and hilarious. As a former teacher I highly recommend it!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - I almost forgot…
Last year we bought a video camera for our then 10-year-old, and a digital camera for our then 8-year-old. They were a hit, and have been used by the boys ALL year long. Each present cost around $100 by the time we bought memory cards, rewritable discs, and cases. But, the fact that they are still actually using the presents makes it absolutely priceless. [the video camera gets all sorts of use in making Lego videos. maybe you could kill two birds with one stone, as he could use some of those 10,000 Legos in his home movies! 🙂 ]

Sarah McPherson - my son is 12 – – and im completely stuck too, although im liking the video camera idea – girls are easy easy easy and boys are a mystery (which is what makes them so interesting)
When Hamish was 9 or 10 we got him an i pod – downloaded with books and music – he loved it

Jenn - Ipod touch, he’s 9, he’s old enough for one.
Or itunes gift cards, if he’s in to skateboarding or guitar or anything listed above he can buy lessons from the itunes store. It’ll make him feel really grown up to get his own itunes account too.

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - The only thing my 9-year-old asked for this year was an automatic pellet gun. It’s smaller and just a little more powerful than his bb gun. It only cost $20, so he’ll also be getting a few pellet related items to go along with it, and a small gun box to hold everything.
I feel a little strange buying ANY sort of gun for him at age 9, but that’s literally the ONLY thing he asked for. And he asked my brother to take him out hunting as his present from him. Looks like I may have an outdoorsman in the making!
GOOD LUCK! My 11-year-old has yet to figure out what his one gift is for Christmas!

Fidgeting Gidget - Have you ever heard of the Eyeclops toys?
The one I originally saw is a camera/microscope that can be plugged into the TV and it magnifies stuff–carpet fibers, skin, basically anything around the house. They’ve since evolved and have many more options now. I think they’re really cool and fun, and semi-educational as well!
http://www.eyeclops.com/

jennifer - I really don’t know…maybe a RipStick, the Tony Hawk RIDE game, his own camera, a flip video camera, ??

linda@LimeintheCoconut - My guys LOVED a video camera at that age…all the kids in the neighborhood would be making little movies together…they still do!
…and a skateboard…and a jump.

Tee - how about a microscope?? You can buy premade slides and then get some extras that are empty so he can examine layers of skin, a drop of blood, milk, or even water… you never know what he might find. OR… a beginners chem lab. I think these are great because they get the kids thinking and creating and seeing the results of neat little experiments. I can’t wait til my kids are old enough to get them these!! Good luck!

pedaling - get him a flip video camera for his main gift—-my 10 year old (daughter would dig this) they come in black, silver and other colors- i have ideas on my site here http://pedalingfast.blogspot.com/2009/11/shop-shop_21.html
yes, the wimpy kid series is good for this age too.
good luck!
and Merry Christmas.

Jeremie in Alabama - My 9 year old made his Christmas wish list Sunday (with instructions that I wasn’t buying video games this year) and he came up with this:
Money for him to send to Water for Christmas (no lie-he’s loving the idea of helping other kids and so he’s been collecting spare change from anyone he can talk to)
Anything Nerf-very big on his list!!!
He still loves Legos…
Drawing stuff/Art tools
Loves Star Wars and all things light saberish
Did I say Nerf??? lol Nerf is huge!!
Trading Cards….
I personally like the camping gear idea too!
Hope this helps!

julia - my son has done numerous projects from this book
http://www.amazon.com/Dangerous-Book-Boys-Conn-Iggulden/dp/0061243582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259762704&sr=1-1
Mine is 15 now and I was just asking another mom whose boys are a little older what to get – it’s so hard!!!

Christian@Modobject at Home - Hobby Town sells a great remote controlled boat called a Zig Zag Racer (around $65-75) that is tons of fun for boys (and grown men). It handles very smoothly. If you wanted, you could get two of them so the said boy and a friend (or brother) could race them. Of course, playing with a rc boat requires a lake or pond of some sort…

Nancy - So sorry on that. I can tell you anything girl. But boys.. they are a foreign land. unchartered territory. an adventure I haven’t taken….. you get the point. Good luck!

jen@odbt - Skateboard, video games (that seems to be all my 8 y.o is asking for), Alex Rider or Percy Jackson books, potty putty, spy gear. I would like to see what others say b/c I’m at a loss myself.

Casey - Some of my just-turned 9 year old’s favorite things:
skateboard
snowboard
bike
ripstick
sports gear (NFL and college jerseys)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid series
gift cards
Tech Decks
flag football set (flags and cones, etc)
Hope this helps…..it is a hard age!

Tracy - A friend of mine just got her 9 year old a ripstick….she was clueless of what to get him too. Good luck!

Kathi - ~Camping equipment of his very own.
~Baseball cards to start a collection with or coins, my sons loved them both and still do at 19 and 14.
~guitar, to keep him away from video games
~tools of his very own
~camera (inexpensive one at this age)

Lisa - My son is 11 and still very much into Legos, but he said Nerf guns and Bakugan toys are still popular. Or how about a Ripstick/skateboard? If he likes to read, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are great or the series 39 Clues. Or maybe just a gift card to his favorite store? 🙂

Cate O'Malley - My son loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series (I think there are four total), the Goosebumps series and there’s one more series, Magic Treehouse, at least 40 in that series. He’s also into skateboarding now, so I got a few of Tony Hawk’s DVDs that visit underground skate parks, along with a few of Hawk’s shirts and his DS game. Hope that helps!

traci - i can’t remember back that far. how about those motorola walkie talkies. my son loved those.

pve - I think a 9 year old boy would love;
an arrowhead collection
a rock collection
a skate-board
a bike
a tether ball
a new sled, or snowball maker?
a little money wrapped
some coins from the year he was born
a time capsule (you could make)
a pair of pajamas, warm and cozy
a book
hope this helps—

more water.

but this time….you could win something i really want.
since it's for clean water i will share it.
otherwise i would keep it a secret so i would have a better chance of winning.

tara whitney is giving away a photo shoot to one person who donates toward her family's well.
she has 2 days left to reach her goal of $10,000.

don't you want in on that?
i know you do.

it's for clean water…

for her.
Ethio07

and her.
Ethio48

and them.
IMG_8993

go here to tara's site to help her reach her $10,000.

and if you win her photo shoot and i don't….i will still be happy for you.
i promise.

(ps: tara i love your blog so much….you are so talented….you are pure inspiration)

amy - tara whitney is my fave photographer! doesn’t she rock?
and i have to say, because i know you will get where i’m coming from, but isn’t it ironic how many people will leave comments when you post something silly like a cute craft or decorating stuff, but when you post something completely and totally relevant to today, like charity water, not nearly as many leave comments? i think you are amazing for using this blog for so much good. and i think you pretty much rock too.
🙂 please continue to just be you.

Ruth - I thought about your efforts to get water to people on Thanksgiving, when I was watching the news reports about people standing in line to “be first” on Black Friday. How ironic, that we live in a land so plentiful that we have the luxury to choose to stand in line for overpriced, plastic TOYS. On the same planet, we have people that must walk for hours and stand in line, dusty and tired, just to get water–one of life’s most basic necessities.
That is just so, so wrong.

linda@LimeintheCoconut - What a perfect goal to attain to. Water…clean. Yes!

jeanne - I love her work too!!! What a wonderful thing to all be working towards!!!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh I love her site. Thanks for sending me there. Let’s keep our fingers crossed;)

Heather Cheatham - How awesome!!! How incredibly awesome!!! I love that so many people are feeling the passion to get clean water to people that don’t have it. That rocks!
I hope you win the photo shoot! You deserve it! You and your cute family!
