i am determined to create more now that the kids are in school all day.
i NEED to be using my hands.
i need to work my mind that way much more often than i am.
it's calming and helps me think clearly.
so i am making a schedule and at least one day i AM creating.
no matter what.

do you make time for something like that in your life?
what is that important part of you that you don't want to miss out on?

Karen - I know that lamp well and am glad you enjoy it 🙂 love, love, love the chevron fabric….just made the Hello Sunshine from the kit that was a weekend craft and the painted peacocks….love all your ideas…thanks for sharing your gift of crafting…

Natalie - While ths post made me happy it also made me so so jealous 🙂 gorgeous fabric. Where do you find all those fantastic quilts
I swear I have the worst luck in that department, yours are fab.

teresa - I love all your colorful piles….
Happy day! Love the name of your blog ;}

Julie Tiu - Oh my gosh. Just found your blog through Pinterest… so lovely “meeting” crafty, artful people… so much happiness here. Thank you for sharing!

Doris - I don’t know if you read comments you get here, but I wonder if you ever see my blog? Since year and few months ago I’m checking your blog and loving it 🙂
“You’ve got mail” is one of my all time favorites. 🙂
and I can’t live without being creative, it’s always something about pictures, or editing music videos, making stuff for family, making photo albums/scrapbooks… and-making music (I’m a singer-songwriter, engineer.)

Lisa Perry - Love when you post your creative stuff! I am aching to find the time to create, I have been so busy the past couple months, I’ve barely had time and my hands are itching for it too…hoping next weekend I will find the time! My soul needs it!

Lauren - I feel exactly the same. Posted something similar just the other day! The artist in me is sad to see summer go…but I gotta keep creating. LOVE the hankies by the way…and that children’s book. *gulp* What a lovely studio…enjoy it!

lola - hi eg! love your blog so much, your positivity is sometimes just what i need! also, I just wanted to let you know, if you didn’t know already, that I linked to your blog for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, check it out at, http://www.bearandlionmama.com/2012/08/its-honour-just-to-be-nominated.html

Sarah Russell - This post is the epitome of eye candy. I love your blog so much and look forward to seeing the lastest scoop in my inbox each morning. God bless ya sistah!

Tracy - Where did you find the glass star? Is Piggie&Dirt on Etsy?

Lindsey - I saw the squirrel fabric on Hawthorne also! LOVE IT! Everything in this post is wonderful! Can’t wait to see what you made!!!!

Sharilyn - Your photos make me smile so BIG! I love the happiness that oozes from them. 🙂

Randi-Dukes and Duchesses - Love all those photos! This summer I set aside some creative time – an hour a week to sew, an hour a week to scrapbook, and an hour a week to knit. Sometimes I did more but it’s amazing what you can do in one hour. I even scheduled it in my planner. I’m definitely keeping it up during the school year.

Su@TheIntentionalHome - oh what fun inspiration. I pinned the embroidery hoop art from the Craft Weekend post and now love to see more in this post. . that will be a fun craft for me to do with my girls. I love the Chevron rainbow fabric. . love that they skipped out on purple (my least favorite color). . .all the others make me happy but not purple for some reason. I have all the colors in my house. . but purple. Happy Post. . love it. . .such inspirataion. And yes, one day a week. . I make time to read, blog, create, shop fun stores. . rest and inspire my soul. . but I tell you 9am-2pm goes very quickly.

Allison - Love your blog!
What is the title of the children’s book with the beautiful illustrations?
Thanks!

Bernice - Thank you for this post! I am so jealous of all your fabric purchases!! Man I’d love to be able to sit and make stuff all day. But for now an active toddler occupies my days. Enjoy your time!!

Amy @littleforalittlewhile - Fabric makes me happy. How will I ever choose at craft weekend?!

Mandy Draper - your post made me smile today 🙂 will you be making more pillows for your etsy shop again this year? i missed it last yr, and was super bummed.

Donna R - Love all the happy fabric, but especially the rainbow chevron. B U tiful! Now to come up with a project so I can order some.
Totally relate to needing to make time for creative projects. I have a million projects pinned and don’t nearly take the time I need to have fun with them!

Jenna@CallHerHappy - I love this post. It is really what I have been feeling lately. I have been in such a rut and I need to create! It is easier for me to create when I am with people I love. That is what makes living far away from home so hard 🙁 One day, I will have lots of time, but my baby will be grown by then. So I am enjoying her now!

Carolyn - That is FABULOUS fabric! And yes- I’ve been thinking that I MUST set aside time to be creative. I love to make things but I’m also a musician and did some acting in high school and I MISS performing. That creative outlet has been pretty dead for me since college. I signed up for an adult tap class for this year and I’m pretty excited about it! Now to find time to play my instruments…:)

Tracey - I need help!! I have been hoarding vintage napkins and hankies with embroidery that I want to make something with but I am struggling with what to make. I was thinking about a valance/curtain for the window above my kitchen sink but I am skeered to do anything to them until I have a plan. What have you made out of your vintage hankies in the past?

Brittany McKenna - Meg- I was at a thrift store in Colorado just yesterday and I saw the EXACT SAME thrift store birds (just one though) and thought about what they would look like spray painted! I had never seen anything like it until yesterday! I didn’t end up getting it, but I love how yours looks! I also love flower frogs! This whole post also made me happy!!

shannon - Your posts are always so bright and happy!
School started for us as well and I was really looking forward to crafting up a storm but instead I’ve been fighting ants daily 🙁
Hoping next week I have more time to craft and create!!!

Ashley E - Firstly, let me tell you what I would GIVE for that pile of doilies….I am so envious! 🙂 I’m on a mission to find all of Tulsa’s doilies for a project. I always try to make time for reading or crafting, which is probably once every two weeks due to being a working mama of two! Whew! LOOOOOVE your craft room and want to have Scotty “Beam me up!” to it!

Angela Atkins - I love your craft room and those stacks of fabric. I’ve been making my own Fall List, now that my big part time job is almost over and I’ll have two whole days to work on stuff while the kids are in school. I make time to do quilts now and will also add in some updating around the house–some furniture painting, new lampshades, that kind of stuff. And just some inspiration trips that I couldn’t do this summer with my kids.

Katie - how cute is tha b/w pic of your kiddos!!!

rachel - i think we could be twinsies….my craft closet very closely resembles your craft room, i adore your yellow owl, i, too, seem to hoard embroidery hoops and i drool over vintage fabrics and quilts. 🙂 if i don’t have a project to work on i get anxious. happy crafting! 🙂

Jodi - Antique shopping, You’ve Got Mail, painted yellow birds, lovely fabric, antique quilts, thread spools, and the hankie collection…..we love so many of the same things! I’ve read your blog for the past 3 years, but never really commented. But today I felt like you were reading my mind. I can just imagine how you feel when you walk into your craft/sewing room…pure happiness.

Jenny B. - I saw those too! I have boys, so they wouldn’t go for it. I briefly considered getting one for myself. 🙂

Jenny B. - Oh, such a happy post! That rainbow chevron makes me giddy! Giddy, I tell you! 🙂 I see ball fringe… are you planning to make more pillows? The one I bought last year is the star of my sofa, and I’m thinking he needs a friend. Hint, hint. 🙂 Also – LOVE the rainbow button lamp shade. I think I might need to do that. So many ideas… so little time… 🙂 Thanks for brightening my day!

Chrissie Grace - Yummy. Makes me want to create

Lisa B - I LOVE that rainbow chevron! I think my son needs that for curtains in his new room when we move.

Jennifer wood - My boys are ages 11, 7, and 4, so I kind of feel like I have recently stepped out of a fog of diapers, potty training, etc. Because of that (and because I’ve been intentional about creating time for it), I’ve been creating more for our home…making something out of nothing, making fun things out of ordinary things. My oldest son recently said, “I love how you decorate our house with things most people give away to the Food and Clothing Bank (our town’s “goodwill”)” This was such a compliment to me! haha!! 😉 LOVE your blog…it inspires me.

melissa lorenz - Completely inspiring post today Meg! BTW – Lands End has rainbow chevron backpacks for kids this year!

Gina - Love all your beautiful photos! Especially the quilts…hope I can score some one day. I love to make things, too, whether it is a paper craft or sewing. Have a great week!

Jacci in Ohio - I just LOVED all these pictures from your craft room. Craft Weekend pics are fun, but I love these even more. More personal, maybe? Happy fun.
Time in the Word. And in prayer. My five kids are home all day, everyday… that time has to be protected like mad. Or it slips away. And it’s not something I can just give up on.

beth - You are absolutely right about creating and I have decided to follow in your footsteps and create while the kids are in school–yea for school! ha!
How do you clean your vintage quilts? I have a beautiful old quilt I just got from my mom that my grandma made and I’m not sure how to go about getting it clean. It’s not stained, but just that old musty smell from being in my parents basement. Any ideas?
Happy school days to you, Meg!
Beth

Darcie L. - Kindred spirits. We were doing premarital counseling with some younger friends of ours. Hubby asked the guy, “What are your fiancee’s needs? Like, for my wife, she NEEDS to be creative. She NEEDS to make things.” He was totally right. 🙂

Ami - This happy post is exactly why you are the first blog I check everyday! Love, love, love all that color!

Jen Brandt - I so love your pictures. What an awesome rainbow button lamp shade. So happy! I need time to exercise and thank God I have a husband who understands that. 🙂

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - I miss quilting, to be honest. My sewing machine (dumb Brother) finally gave up the ghost and it will be months before I can replace it and months before my life settles down enough to even consider crafting/sewing. We’re going from 4 to 7 children and that’s going to be a bit chaotic around here.

Christy K - This is, by far, THE happiest blog post I have read in, well… EVER. All of the bright, beautiful colours make my heart SO very happy! Thank you for inspiring me today and happy creating!! : )

stephany - Happy photos.
Creating makes me happy, too!
I have tons of cleaning to do before my in-laws get to town and I have been creating, moving furniture, and changing things around in our house instead.
You’ve Got Mail is one of my favorites, too. Really, anything with Meg Ryan.
And, I have a table full of thrifted embroidery hoops and fabric right at this moment.
I think we would get along well. 🙂

becky - i thought you’d appreciate this – we were doing a cross country road trip with the kids (well, to ohio and back) and i had this big binder with all the things we were going to do at every stop. and on the way home we had an over-nighter in salina and my one and only goal was to go out to the barn and shop and i had it all marked and the address in the gps and everything…AND…the one day we were there – was the day they were closed. sigh. and to think i passed up one amazing antique shop after another with the mantra going through my head, “just make it to kansas…just make it to kansas…” hah! that’ll teach me. hopefully next time i’m in your neck of the woods – i will make it to the barn.
thanks for all the wonderful pics today. it’s funny – i see rainbow things all the time and think of you – which is weird, i know…but funny at the same time. oh, this funny blogging world.

Lennie Jackson - My kids are small 1 yr and almost 3 so it is very hard for me to get any craft-mommy-I need it to keep my sanity time, but I try really hard to do that. It is all a juggle and you seem to do so well. Thanks for the pretty post!!! Someday I’ll get to that craft house!!

Juli - So funny! I just ordered the rainbow chevron from Hawthorne after they sent their e-mail! I told my husband I’m just going to wrap the outside of the house with it :)! I haven’t received mine yet. Do you think its heavy enough for a shower curtain? (there would be a plastic liner too). Love your blog so much. Hoping to meet you in sometime at a craft weekend!
-Julie

Kate - What inspiration this morning! My oldest is just starting preschool this fall, and I am hoping to spend more time in my craft room. I also just signed up on the CW waiting list, so I’m hoping to see your craft room sometime soon, too. 😉 Happy Wednesday!

kelly - I stayed home from work today and was feeling kinda blah… your post lifted my spirits and made me want to create. I have a not so craft room that has been in the making since we built the house 2 years ago–bot as big as yours but I would love for it ot have the same feel of yours… Thanks for the inspiration–I can tell yours has all the things you love…. THanks Meg!!!

Dara - I love the rainbow chevron!

annie - Can I just come and LIVE at the craft house?!?!?!?!!? HOLY COW! I LOVE EVERYTHING!!!!!

Han - You’ve Got Mail is one of my favourites! I adore Nora Ephron films – I watched YGM most recently the day that she passed away – I watched in like memory of her.
I even quoted YGM on my blog today (here)
“Don’t you just love New York in the fall. It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bunch of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand this not knowing has it’s charms”

Sharla - Rainbow chevron! I am in love

Jen - What a fun place Craft House is!! I love the color, the mix of patterns. It’s all so happy and creative. Mission accomplished.

Verna Lantz - This entire post made me happy. What happy colors and patterns. Now, I believe I need my own craft room to fill it with color and happy. Thanks!!

IMG_3650-18
one of the things i love about sunflowers is that they are solid and study.
they have big leaves….they have layers and layers of seeds and petals.
God creates each one so intricitly.
His creation is so detailed.

Natalie - the grasshopper… AWESOME!!! Since you love sunflowers, I knew I had to share… The tornado that drove thru the state of Alabama, “April’s Fury 2011” missed my home by about a mile. It was devastating. At least TEN families in my church lost everything. It was life changing, physically and spiritually for our state. Months after as families still tried to make sense of the disaster and families searched, rebuilt… The coolest thing EVER happened~ all over, in the most random spots, popped up the most beautiful SUNFLOWERS! Apparently seed from different bird feeders were scattered EVERYWHERE! To me, it was this great sign of HOPE, growth! IT was BEAUTIFUL! You would have loved it!! GOD IS AWESOME! 😉
Enjoy your stories!!! Blessing to you and your family!
Natalie

Sarah H. - God is awesome! You don’t know me from Adam, but we planted sunflowers in our garden this year and every time I look at them I think of you and your love for sunflowers! My sweet 5 year old daughter and I love our’s too. I love, love that grasshopper. That is print worthy for sure!

Lisa - I’m blessed to drive by a sunflower field every morning as I take my son to day care. A big field of big happy sunflowers, basking in the rising sun, every one of them facing the east like lines of sunflower soldiers. So beautiful. Must remember to take my camera one day soon.

ira lee - i love sunflowers too. i meant to plant some with my kids this spring but i forgot. ive heard they are easy to grow!!!

elisa - These are great! Love 🙂

Melissa - Sean seems like such a great big brother!

Robin - Thank you for this post! Your photography is unbelievable – truly magical – especially the grasshopper – the best photo I have seen! I am always so inspired when I read your blog – it is one of three that I MUST visit EVERY day! That grasshopper picture belongs in National Geographic, or the National Gallery of Art!!!! It is truly spectacular!
What kind of lens do you use? Your pictures are always so clear and vibrant.
Thank you for the joy you bring us every day. Yes, God is amazing.

cath w - Good grief.

Jenn B - I Love this post! Sunflowers bring me joy too. We have one growing in our yard that is taller (by almost a foot) that my husband and he is 6’2″! They are huge and truly God’s amazing work. My favorite picture is the grasshopper one. I love that you didn’t even know you got it. Awesome!

the.mrs - indeeeeed! i feel the same giddy feeling looking at bananas. I know, weird, right?! But next time you open a banana look closely, they’re glittery. 🙂 I mean seriously, God loves glitter as much as I do. And they break into 3 right down the middle. Unless you’re lucky and get one that breaks into 2. God’s creation rocks.

Jessica at Me Sew Crazy - wow. Just wow. Amazing photos, amazing praise, and amazing grasshopper. I am pretty sure you found Jimini Cricket.

Becki - Beautiful!

jeannett - sigh…
love it.
all of it.
missing you.
owen said he needs you to cuddle him.

Lisa - Love everything you said

Heather - “Thank you God for caring about every hair on my head….every tear…every hurt….every joy in my life.
and for showing me that in a field of sunflowers.
God is awesome.”
Thank you for a beautiful post and an important reminder. I needed that today. So Much!

God’s creation always inspires me and to grab my camera. His glory surrounds us every day.

rachel - lovely captures! 🙂

karen gerstenberger - God is awesome; I agree. Your grasshopper photo reminds me of the books by Eric Carle, especially “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Did your kids have that one? It’s adorable, like you and your family.

awesome day.

IMG_1789-1

the farmers all around us were cutting wheat on wednesday.
everywhere we drove there were fields full of combines and trucks….so awesomely kansasy beautiful.
i was driving sean to a friends house wednesday evening and a storm blew in.

IMG_1794-1

it was a BIG storm.
so big that i turned around and knocked on a friends door and said "can i come in till the storm blows past?!"
it was freaky.
trees were falling down!

we made it home safely and a few hours later my sister and nieces came for a visit.
poor thing had to drive in the rain the whole time.

the storm knocked out the power so the morning was lovely and quiet.
no tv just LOTS of art.  :)

IMG_1956-1

my sister saw a turtle just outside our door!
it entertained us for awhile…. a sweet little box turtle.

IMG_1799-1

he went in the glitter from the art work…. ha!

IMG_1807-4

IMG_1812-5
talby wiped the glitter off.

IMG_1820-7

IMG_1834-9
turtles are cool.
we put him back in the yard and went to the neighbor's pond to look for frogs.

IMG_1846-11
talby caught this one right away…. it was HUGE!
Yay for the new target butterfly net!

no one would pick it up…..

IMG_1850-12

IMG_1849-1

so i had to lead by example.
"Come on girls….nothing to be afraid of!"
it wasn't nearly as slimey as i thought.

IMG_1858-13

IMG_1869-14

the nicest dog (when he isn't stealing our potato chips)

IMG_1875-15

IMG_1882-16

we found this GIANT striped feather.
it's so pretty.
we don't know what bird it's from….but we will google it.

IMG_1879-1

they caught five teeny frogs and almost caught several more big frogs.

IMG_1904-1
lauren was exploring with us…she was REALLY good at catching frogs when she was little…it was her favorite.
she almost caught this SNAKE!!!!!!!!!

after the snake left we saw all these frog eggs?!!  awesome!
there are like….1000 eggs?  so cool.
also there were tadpoles all over the pond.
we were all so happy and having a great time….

IMG_1909-18

IMG_1911-19

until we weren't.

HA.
annie lost her balance and SPLASH!
it wasn't deep and no snakes were nearby…. i pulled her out real quick.
it was more surprising than anything.

IMG_1921-20

IMG_1924-1

after annie got a bath…. we went over to the arboretum.
and out for ice cream.
IMG_1929-2

talby had a softball game at 6:00 and she did great!  she was first base several innings.  i loved seeing that!

we came home and set up the tent and made a fire!
we are so outdoorsy.
🙂
IMG_1934-3

IMG_1939-4

sean was the only "MAN" to help us because scott and craig were gone.
he was essential in the fire building.
how awesome is the fire pit at the farm?

we roasted weenies for dinner….in our jammies.

hot dogs, carrots, cucumbers with ranch, chips and s'mores…..YUM.

we set up the movie and the girls watched RIO from the tent up on the barn.
and they fell asleep!!!
and slept out there all night…we were shocked.

fabulous awesome day.

and now we are being treated to "restaurant" from the little girls.
🙂

Cori - I am coming to join your family. What an amazing day!

Tina I - Note to self, rent a house in the country in a small Midwestern town. You will have the most amazing adventures!

Jenn - Just down right awesome! Good memories being made.

jeannett - just a few things:
1) my kids think frogs come from the pet store.
2) it’s not slime. it’s mucus. (that’s a line from the movie princess and the frog.)
3) but the real question is: did you put the turtle back?

Mary Ward - Have a collection of the same feathers…..we have nesting barred owls. Yup, thats what they are!!!

Kelly - Sounds like a GREAT day! looks like it was a little cool with all the hoodies everyone had on. Nice!
Fun to see Lauren. I love teeny tiny frogs so that picture was great to me. Kelly

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I love roasting weinnies. So fun and summery. Your summer is already really fun. Love that Lauren was exploring with you guys. I know those times are fewer and farther between. Why do our kids have to grow up?! Happy summertime Meg!

Jenna@CallHerHappy - looks like a turkey feather! good thing it isn’t november 🙂 also, i love that turtle. he is so fancy with his glitter. fancy fancy turtle!
Jenna

TAB - Awesome day for sure!!! I love kansas! I’ve been following your amazing blog for a while but have never commented, I’m commenting shy. I really enjoy your enthusiasm and how much you enjoy your kids. 🙂

Tiffany - YaY!! to Sean getting to be the man of the house and working it out for you damsels in distress.

Lorel - I love this! and I love you all very very much! Thanks for treating us to a wonderful restorative visit. I am just so happy right now. 🙂

Christy K - Looks like it was, most definitely, an AWESOME day! (Other than Annie falling in the pond, poor girl!) You are a much braver Mama than I, getting friendly with that frog… yikes! Hope you and the fam have a great weekend! 🙂

Kathryn Goertzen - cracks me up that you snapped a picture of Annie after she fell in! It’s like when a little kid unrolls ALL of the toilet paper and you just have to get a pic of it before you scold . . .

stephany - You are a brave mom.
I have a feeling I am going to have to suck it up one of these days and pick up frogs and snakes for my kids.
That’s a wild turkey feather.
How do I know? My dad and husband hunt…and have hunted turkey in Kansas…and Colorado…and New Mexico…and New York…and Oregon.
I’ve seen my share of turkey feathers.
You must have wild turkey around the farm!

Laura Phelps - seeing Lauren makes me happy 🙂
seeing the snake makes me not happy 🙁
and when I see you again, I will be SUPER happy :-)!!!

sara @ it's good to be queen - i love kansas harvest! we were going to try to make it up in time so that my boys could ride in the combines but i think we’re gonna miss it. boo. p.s. i love your farm house.

Ashley - Well, now I want to live off in the country farther than I already do. Looks like you girls (and guy) had a ball. Those storms were rough here, too. But the weather has been mild ever since. Totally worth it.
And the frog– I bet the girls will pick him up next time. You’re pretty cool to grab that critter up.

happygirl - You make Kansas look so cool. I love gigging for frogs and finding turtles. We used to catch turtles, draw a giant circle on the driveway and have turtle races. 🙂

Jess Mead - We do cucumbers and ranch when we do weenie roasts too! Looks like a fabulous day!

April R - oh. my. sweet. life.
this post is a cup over-flowin’ w pure goodness.
absolutely inspiring! I might just go flip the switch on the electric box and tell the kids,
“I don’t know why the power’s out but let’s do some fun stuff while we wait for it to come back…”
thanks for sharing 🙂

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - It’s been stormy all week here in Florida.. I am sick of it! It is supposed to go through the weekend. All I want to do is go to beach, but that won’t be happening.. Boo! 🙁
Your campfire looks so fun!

Jenna - Could the feather be from a barred rock chicken nearby (our feathers look like that)?
A little bit of turtle info…always put them back in the same direction they are pointing when you find them, they have a mission.
Thanks for sharing. The farm seems very fun for the kids (and you)!

amy jupin - yay for family time!
we just got the new watercolor set at target too–although i’m trying to hide it from anna so it stays pretty.
i’m sad, i know.

Jacci - Yup. You *had* to pick up the frog! I’ve had to do the same thing! Your girls will brave up next time, now. Bonus is that YOU are even cooler than before 🙂

Aimee - I love those new Kid Made Modern art supplies at Target! I just bought some for my 5 year old artist for his preschool graduation gift yesterday. He was so excited he started using them right away. I was crazy tempted to buy the water colors for him but he has a ton of watercolors right now and I think it would break my heart to see the colors get all mixed together on the pallet (because you know that’s how 5 year olds do it). I might have to go buy them for me even though I prefer watercolors in tubes. They are just too pretty to not buy.

Iris Brown - I always thought I was a city slicker, but now you have me intrigued by the quiet farm life. I love visiting your blog and its part of my daily/weekly routine. I thought I’d lost interest since the posts doesn’t have your gorgeous “craft” home in the background but I realized its you and how you capture the quiet & “ordinary” moments with your family. You help me realize the little things of every day really are not little. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Heather F. - What a great day. I wish I lived by all those turtle and frogs and wildlife. Your kids are going to have great stories to tell their kids.

Terrie G - What a fun day!!
I want a fire pit…
Weren’t those storms crazy??!!!
Can’t wait to help with harvest & get pics this weekend!!
Have a great weekend!

Alice H - My daughter has those chevron pants (from Target). And I would have cried too if I fell in that yucky water with snakes and frog eggs!! Poor Annie! Looks like you guys had a great time!
Is Annie her real name or nickname? I love names. Seriously, I am a name freak. My favorite name is what I gave my daughter…Emilee Tayte! I like saying it even when she isn’t in trouble. LOL!

Linda - You really have the most awesome fabulous life!

Melissa Irvin - Thank you for sharing this day of adventure! Looks like such a peaceful, wonderful time together!

michaela - it’s a turkey feather. 🙂
what an awesome day you had with you sister and her family. making some great childhood memories.

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - I just kept thinking… But what about all the mosquitoes? Don’t you have mosquitoes in Kansas? Everyone looked so happy…. you must not have mosquitoes : )
Dana

Erica Hang - Well, it’s official. I want to live there too! 🙂 I love when the kids can explore!!

randomness…again.

i have like….a hundred things to say and none of them have to do with each other.

here goes….

IMG_0930-1

i sent this necklace to my mama for mother's day.
i am so in love with it.

IMG_1258-2

my aunt Pam and my cousin Sam came over for dinner this week.
she lives in sydney.
i hadn't seen her since i was 14.
isn't that crazy?
22 years?  it seems completely silly.

it's official….the farm in may is THE perfect place for dinner guests.
it may be different in the hot summer but this month we have eaten almost every meal outside and it is absolutely perfect out there.
i loved having them here.
maybe next time i see you Pam it will be at YOUR house…in Aussie!

IMG_1259-3

annie BEGGED to take a picture too.

we had CREAM PUFF SQUARES for dessert.
i think it's my family's favorite.
and i think ALL company likes it.
true story.

(while you are way back in 2008 archives…don't get sad and start crying that your cute little baby is all grown up….like maybe i did when i was searching for this recipe)

here is a rare look inside the farm house.
:)

IMG_1294-1

because check out my new messenger bag from The Pleated Poppy!!!

IMG_1296-2 IMG_1297-3

it is pretty darn cute isn't it?!     it's better than cute.    it is….marvelous?!  yes….marvelous is a good word.

so here's the deal…..she can't keep these bags in stock because they are all so amazingly happy.
but she will keep making them.
be patient and she will restock.
SHE WILL.
you don't need to email her & ask…poor girl doens't need 50 emails asking "when can i get a green chevron bag?"
she will restock.
she knows how fabulous they are.

go over to the pleated poppy….look at ALL her cute stuff….she has free posy pins today!

and look at her bags and make yourself a note to come back in a couple days to get your own messenger bag.
and if i see that they are restocked i will remind you.

but really….everything in lindsey's shop is rad.
you can't go wrong.
what about teacher gifts??? pick some up today!

i have been sitting here debating on running all morning.
trying to talk myself out it.
"i have a headache"
"it's too gray"
"it's windy"
"i'm tired"
"i'm sore"
"now it's too sunny"

dang it….i'm going.
and i am not coming back till my headphones tell me i have been 6.2 miles.
but i am not happy about it.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - So glad you had a great time with family. Family is the best, right? I totally relate to your “I have a million excuses NOT to exercise”. I do it all the time and usually I win and that’s why I can’t fit into any of my shorts from last summer, HA! So good for you, don’t be like me and get your butt out there 🙂 Have a great weekend Meg!

Lisa - Those Ryan Gossling (sp?) posts make me laugh. So funny! Hope you kicked some butt on your run. I had to stop exercising this week cause I threw out my back. Way lame. But starting to feel better so I’m hoping to get back into it! Have a great weekend!

Lindsay - love this whole post. so YOU are the one that got the green chevron bag!! oh i wanted the grey and red one SO bad. but i am going to be patient because lindsey is awesome and worth all the waiting. 🙂 And I just laughed out loud in my kitchen at that quote about being amazing (unless i change my mind). ha!

Jenna@CallHerHappy - Meg, I just love reading your blog. It is so sunny and cheerful, and I’m always in a good mood after I read it! Thanks for that 🙂

MyLinda - Those cream puffs looked so yummy 🙂 that I wanted to make them today but couldn’t find the list of ingredient measurements. Please post them or e-mail them to me at ksfostermomdad at yahoo dot com Thanks!!!

kerry - ooooh I love that bag!! I’m not a ‘green’ kinda girl, but man I do love that bag…
You are so good at talking yourself into going running.. I would’ve given up on excuse number 2.. ha!
I bought Jenny Doh’s book on Amazon yesterday after seeing your post on the Craft blog… and it arrived Today! Going to sit down with a cuppa in a minute and have a flick through.
Happy Weekend Duerksens! xx

Carie - I ordered some Katie Daisy prints. Thanks for posting. Now I’ll have one less beige thing in my house!

Heather F. - That picture from inside your farmhouse is so beautifully perfect. Such a happy looking home. So inspiring!

cj - the cream puffs look wonderful….however I couldn’t find the list of ingredient measurements……

Kim - LOVE the box of flip flops!!

Michelle From Australia - Shall I book the Opera House in Sydney for you to address your Australian fans? I think it holds about 2000 people. Or maybe I should think bigger? YES, we would love to see you in Australia. Please…..

Mindy Harris - i bought my mommy a lisa leonard necklace with all three of us girls’ names (her daughters) as well as the son she miscarried. she said it was in her “top ten” gift likes.
are you going to the influence conference?
i am taking a crew from wichita (okay maybe one other person right now) if you want to ride along. it could save gas money. i am a SAFE driver.
😉

Jocelyn - love your little foyer/mudroom area. So fun and sweet and playful. I HAD to “pin’ it to my “beautiful spaces” board. I’m hoping to recreate a similar look in our next home. :0)

April R - 🙂

marci - i found katie daisy through you a year or so ago and i ADORE her!! i have prints of hers all over and they make me smile every.darn.day.:D LOVE that.

Amy Petz - Love the new bag! Super-mega love “going to be amazing”…”unless I change my mind.” That, along with so many other things about your blog, remind me that I am not alone in my quest to be better and the battle that can happen within, when my wants and my energy level do not match. Thank you for created such a fun and real blog. Hearts.

Laura Phelps - dont tell my dog about waffles going out for a haircut…I cut my dogs hair on my own this week…and well…there is a REASON you TAKE your dog to get their hair cut.
love this post…so much HAPPINESS!
when can I come to your farm house? seriously. when?
can I add to your random? have you read the book LEFT TO TELL by Imacculee Ilibagiza? It is about how she found God in the Rwanda Holocaust. MOST AMAZING woman and book. You would love it. But I know how you read…it might take you three years to finish 🙂
have a lovely weekend! Make it beautiful!
and yeah…I am back to blogging…the calling I heard to do somethingELSE was apparently a call for someone else!
xo

Jennifer - Oh yes, the RG pics are all so dreamy! Hopefully my hubby doesn’t see that I wrote this comment…ha…ha! 🙂 I think it is so wonderful that you guys moved out to a farm….I so enjoy hearing about all your new stories about life out there. I remember when I was little and my parents made the decision to move our family out to the country–it was the best decision they ever made for our family of six. My brothers and I have such wonderful memories of our childhood out in the country–at first we were a little bummed because we moved out of the city away from our friends. But we quickly got over that. In fact, all of our friends begged their parents to come to our house. My girlfriends to this day still talk about all the rockstar slumber parties we had at our house. We ran and played on all the hay bales, chased the cows, fished in the pond, etc. I will always cherish the time with my family (and friends) as a kid while growing up in the country. 🙂

Elizabeth Welch - Meg,
You mentioned this is a “rare” look inside the farm house. Will we not be seeing more?

Christy - OKAY…
#1 Your post today makes me want to spend money! On me! HA!
AND
#2 My kids will LOVE those cookies! Thanks for sharing!

Tracy - For being in a grumpy mood, you seem pretty cheerful 😉 I’m pretty sure that run is the only thing keeping you from a glorious day. Do it!!

ko. s - Yay for a fun random friday post! That bag oh that bag, I’ll be checking and rechecking till I can get my hands on one 🙂

Seriously Sassy Mama - This post makes me want to spend tons of money. Tons, which I cannot spend till we are done moving. I would love to see more of your farm. How fun is it to have a farm, and a perfect craft house? Super jealous over here. Good luck on your run.

Kimberly Dial - Meg, you have introduced me to such great sites … I love Katie Daisy prints! I’ll have to check out the recipe … so glad you got to visit with your Aunt & a visit to Australia would indeed be soooo awesome. I’m with you, I’m going to be awesome from now on (unless I change my mind!) Have a great weekend!

Rachel J - Every time I read one of those RG pics, I start to giggle. He’s kind of dreamy right? HaHa! Don’t worry, I told my husband that too. He just rolled his eyes!

Jenn - Great post! Love the beads, bag and everything else. Have a great weekend!

Makila - Loved all the things you linked. I had never heard of 31Bits. I will be ordering birthday gifts ASAP! What a great organization. I am new to your blog and have enjoyed reading! Love Lindsey’s stuff. So, so cute.

Sharla - Just ordered that necklace for my mom too! Love it.

shannon - I love, love, love how happy and colorful everything you do is! Even the sweatshirts are polka dots and bright. 🙂
I think I need that Katie Daisy print as well, she is great.
Happy Weekend!

Lauryn - Nothing wrong with posts of sheer randomosity! I love the orange necklace. I am all about some orange 🙂

Kirsten J - Lisa is my “go-to” for year end teacher gifts from the class! Happy, fun tidbits – I love a good brain dump 🙂

Nicole - So lovely! I just ordered a Katie Daisy print for my best friend’s birthday! YAY! & great idea about running to get the grumpy out. Yesterday at work I was so crabby I had to buy myself an almond latte (a rare treat for me) just to bribe myself out of my grumpy mood! Oh, how childish I can be sometimes 🙂 I hope to pound the pavement myself this afternoon! 🙂 Hope your run was wonderful!

CathyC - I miss Kansas!!! I love that green bag, and I just bought one of her reversible scarves. Lovely. Have a great run!

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Katie Daisy IS amazing! I remember stalking my mailman when I last ordered something from there.
It was fun to see a shot inside the farmhouse. I’m being totally nosy here but is the point of you living there to give your family privacy? We always saw so many shots of the (Craft Weekend) house yet very few of this new one. I totally understand if it is but I was just curious.

Sarah - OOOH i love all the new stuff at 31Bits. I sent my mom a necklace from them for Mother’s day… she loved it. Thank you for introducing them to me. So awesome.

4 Fab Franklins - oops! I meant bag… not bad.

4 Fab Franklins - Everything avout this post is Amazing! Love the bad! Love the amacing sign! Love Love Love your beautiful family! Oh! Yes…and the cookies too! Now. You go run. Run Meg – Run!

lindsey - I think Katie Daisy is fantastic!! I just ordered my first print from her two days ago! Cannot wait to get it!

Tracy Fisher - i just ordered one of Lisa’s cross necklaces. couldn’t resist! love it. and it’s something for me. woo hoo! thanks for sharing. tracy

SNAP…a small recap.

i took no photos of people.
it's probably a nervous thing….right?
all the pictures in this post are of things i saw this weekend and have nothing to do with my words because that is the only option here!

well… as almost all nerve wracking, fear of the unknown situations are….everything was fine.
like all of YOU knew it would be.
it was me who was doubting.

IMG_9886-1

i really don't like being the new girl.
the one that no one knows….or in this case the one who knows no one else.
i was walking into a weird and new experience for me.
but it was GREAT!
everyone was SUPER nice and kind and friendly.

IMAG0647-13
(side note:  dont you think this couch could not be more perfect for the craft house????)
IMAG0648-14

i had FUN roommates.
we laughed the entire time.
it was such wonderful girl time for me.
lindsey, jeannett and maggie were even better than i hoped.

IMAG0651-1

IMAG0652-2

the entire conference was done so well.
we were entertained….spoiled….and taught.
i was so impressed with all of it.
i looooved the Queen Bee Market!
it was my first time to get to see so many of these handmade products that i love online….in person!

IMAG0653-3

IMAG0657-9 IMAG0658-10

IMAG0661-11 IMAG0663-12

my session was with jeannett and ethan and moderated by amy.
i felt like it was just right.
i spoke from my heart.
and as always….i cried.
only in the beginning.
it was a relief to be actually speaking the words i had been going over in my head for weeks…months.
to get them OUT and not have to worry about messing up any more.

IMG_9960-4

speaking them out loud brought my passion alive again.
fanned the flame.
getting to share what is deep in my heart felt awesome…like it was stuck inside and then released!

IMG_9972-7

God sent so many women to give me words of encouragement all weekend.
they were all so kind and gushingly sweet.
it was humbling.
they made me feel so good all day long.

IMG_9967-6

i got to meet blogger friends in real life…
mique, kami,  tauwni, jess, andrea, heather, alissa, patty and kim to name a few.

the sponsors were generous!
our swag bags were extreme.
this was about a quarter of the loot…seriously…they rocked it.

IMG_9961-5

so….my thoughts on what i got out of the conference.

1. it was a wonderful break from the everyday of mommyhood.

2. meeting bloggers is awesome.

3. speaking makes me nervous and yet i really LOVE doing it.

4. girlfriends are such good medicine.

5. i was reminded again of what i am in this corner of the internet….and i like it.
i first realized it first when i was in Atlanta for the coca-cola social media conference surrounded by big
bloggers filled with business mindsets and big goals and plans for their blogs.
at the end of the day….i just want to glorify God.
in my words, in my photos, in my home, in my relationships and definitely on my blog….every day.
and that is a work in progress.
    it's a journey.
i still mess up a lot.
i still react poorly sometimes often….i am normal.
but i am here in to serve God with JOY and do my best every day to let His Light shine through me.

IMG_9888-2

i loved SNAP.
it was awesome to be asked to be a part of it!
they know how to throw a party!

hey….how about if YOU were at SNAP and you took your picture with me….send it to me!
i have no photos of you or me.
it will make a great post.  :)
pleeeease.

thanks!

Brittany Shea - I am in love with this blog. What exactly is SNAP and I need this couch in my life. Does anyone know where I can get in touch with this vendor???

Tauni - This is a bit late, but I love you…That is all. xoxo

Patty Palmer - Nice meeting you in person, Meg! I saw that sofa as well and knew straight away that I don not have nearly enough color in my house. Great photos of Snap!

Kelli @ Lolly Jane - MEG! You rock. Loved chatting with you at SNAP. Our quick convo put things in perspective and made me feel better about saying no to a sponsored trip to NYC. Thanks girl!
ps: See Sandee Prince up there? My sister! She’s your stalker…in a good way. Love her 😉

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - Soo.. I got an email last night saying that I was randomly chosen to come to Craft Weekend.. I had the same feelings that you were having about SNAP. Nervousness, fear of the unknown.. But you know what? I am COMING to Craft Weekend! And I am so excited!! I know I would have kicked myself, had I not accepted the invite.. See you in August!! 🙂

Christine Ishmael - It was great finally meeting you Meg! I wish I could’ve heard you speak because as soon as you were done, my friend (who was there) texted me and said it was so good, she was bawling! Keep up the good work! Christine of This & That Creations!

Brooke - the red/pink tulip picture is BEAUTIFUL! Do you sell your photos? This picture is the perfect jumping off point for my toddlers new big girl room!

Meagan - Oh my goodness, you NEED that sofa and all it’s pillows for the craft house. Absolutely. It’s perfect. I’m so bummed I missed SNAP this year. It would have been great to see you again.

kami @ NoBiggie - I’m so glad I got to meet you! I just sent you a pic of us.
That lace necklace is so pretty! I wish I had a full day all by myself to take in the Queen Bee Market, so many pretties.

Amy - Well said, Meg! Our sole purpose in life is to bring glory to God. It’s amazing when we strip everything else away and simply see life through that purpose. I needed that reminder today. 🙂

ko. s - You made me tear up! I love that you were speaking at Snap this year! What a source of creative strength you are! I may just have to see if we can fly you out for our Women’s retreat!

Suzanne - First, of course you did wonderfully! Second, couch = a.maz.ing! Third, thank you for being who God made you to be! Glorify God and be joyful in your life. What an amazing outlet you have to share in!

Lorie - I barely took pictures of people either! Too much going on and too many great people to meet! I never made it into the Emporium to shop, but that couch is amazing!

Jessica Johnson - i knew you would do great! also, i see you on instagram! kim and i need to fly out for a tutorial.

Stephanie - I was not at snap but I feel the same way that you do about blogging. I want to honor and glorify God with my life. With the thoughts that I think, the actions I do and the words I say or blog. I definitely fail but glorifying God through everything, the good and bad, is the most important thing.
And- completely random but I had a dream that I was at one of your craft weekends! I have seen the pics on your blog and it looks like so much fun! I may have to come one of these days! 🙂
I love your blog!

Lea Carter - ” i am here in to serve God with JOY and do my best every day to let His Light shine through me.” and that, my dear, is what it is all about! Love your blog and your heart!

happygirl - Your images are beautiful. I love turquoise and brown combination. Why is that such a gorgeous combo? You are so brave to go to things like this. I have no courage for meeting new people.

Love the rusty table and all the mismatched chairs!

Lea - Love the sneakers too! I saw them at the Dicks sporting goods over the weekend and loved them…Im jealous.
Curious..Is Kimberlee now your business partner with the Craft House? We seem to be seeing her quite a bit. It really is a smart idea and sounds lucrative too. I’m impressed. I think you have good ideas all the way around and a craft weekend sounds like so much fun!

Jenny B. - I couldn’t help it… I saw that dark kitchen in the background of the chairs picture, and I felt a little sad… no Annie climbing on the barstool, no waffle running around… does it just feel really weird to go there and know that you you all live somewhere else? I’m excited for you about the new place and all the awesomeness that will happen in the craft house, but I am just imagining how I would feel if it had been my home. 🙂 I think it would be fun to have it all to myself, though, and be able to spend time planning and decorating, and not picking up toys or doing laundry (besides cute fabric and lovely vintage quilts, of course). Ha! 🙂

elisa - I love this post. All the color. And that water color canvas!!!! I want another pillow from you. Mine is still in storage in Ohio somewhere. I miss it. It was mine. All mine.

Lori Austin - Those shoes!

Love it all!

Kristin F. - i LOVE your shoes. just be careful — Frees aren’t great for everyday running. i started running in them and the end result was a wonky knee and a new pair of shoes :). they are good for a few days a week to strengthen your feet. LOVE the turquoise — mine are purple & lime green!!!

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Its so funny that you started this post with running sneaks b/c just today on my way home from school I had it in my mind to email you and ask what you’d recommend. I’m NOT a runner, but have always wanted to be(weird, I know) and I need to get my lean-ness back. Yet I don’t want to injure my feet or knees. Wanna help a non-runner out and give me ideas?
And lastly, Ive gotta say I miss seeing the old house so much. I was thrilled to see bits and pieces of it again:)

Justine - I was just at the barn on Monday..and i saw your tables that oggie (sp) built, he told us they were special order–didn’t know they were for you lol so crazy…to bad we weren’t there at the same time but we would’ve fought over the wonder woman photo so it’s pry good we weren’t. 🙂

Jacci - YAY for opening the store again!!! Woo hoo! I am PUMPED! 🙂 Oh, pretty please – a sunflower print. The one that used to hang over the chippy white cupboard in the family room. I have loved that photo for EVER and totally missed them all last time.
