the last week

this has been my last week with just annie and i home together…no siblings.
today is our last day.
and we are very busy with unrelated things.
oh well.

we went to the zoo yesterday….that counts towards good memories.

IMG_0626

on monday we did some painting.
on a box in the driveway…because she wanted to.
she had plans to fill it with "gifts" and mail it to eliza.
i figured she would forget…..and she has.
but we did paint the whole box.

it was quiet and calm.

i could feel my heart swelling up in me…things are going to change.
she talked non stop while she painted.
i painted very slowly so she could do the majority of her project.
i tried to take in every second of it.
i was burning it into my soul…don't forget this moment…don't rush…don't leave…just sit and BE.

me.
i ate cereal with milk…she ate cereal without.
i wore my slippers.

why do sweet baby toes have to grow up and go to kindergarten?
not fair.

IMG_0637
today the school year ends.
as of monday our summer begins.
meals all day, kids all day, fighting all day, hanging out, making messes, inside/outside/inside/outside

but i think it's going to be a good summer.
i was dreading it last year.
for some reason….i am not this year.

i will let you know if i feel the same on monday night.

now…i need to start on my rainbow cake.

alyssa - i wish i could have a piece of that cake!!!!

kristine - hmm favorite line:
why do sweet baby toes have to grow up and go to kindergarten?
not easy.
smile.
cringe.
tear.

Mindi - I totally agree! Kindergarten sucks!! I just signed my son up for fall and seriously cried while filling the paper work out. It’s silly I know. they have to grow up, right?
The funny thing is this is not the first time or the last that I have been saddened by a major milestone.
It will get easier won’t it?

Amy R. - I am so with you on this one! My sweet and only girl starts kindergarten this year too! My heart is breaking. At least I will have another little one at home still, but my daughter and I are just kindred spirits.
Hope your summer is sweet and calm in it’s own way…
Amy

Molly - Aww this post made me tear up πŸ™‚
Molly
http://www.mypeaceoflove.com

Corry - Thank you, Meg, for saying “what you say” Love you and your blog! You make all of us “Moms” who are trying to “do it all” relax and realize what is important- our FAMILIES, of course!!!!

Rachael Ensom - This is such a precious post:)

Lin - Why do sweet baby toes have to grow up, graduate kindergarten, and move on to first grade? My daughter will be six next week, and the week after is her last of kindergarten. Then she will be a “big school ager”. What am I going to do without my baby?! Sorry…my self-pity just got out of control for a second.

Courtney Walsh - I don’t know what I’m going to do when Sam goes to school. I am so glad he has a late birthday. It gives me an extra year with him. He makes my days so happy. I imagine your Annie does the same.
Hard to let them go…

A pocket full of posies... - Precious, sweet, priceless moment!! (and delightfully filled with color too!)
perfect.
Happy Summer Break!
Blessings!
Jill

krystall - I wish I could make your rainbow cake, I tried and failed. Any hints????
I wish you were my BBF, I love your life and LOVE your house. You seem to have it all together I’m sure you don’t think so but reading your blog daily inspires me to be a more “in the moment” mommy.
“see” ya tomorrow,
K

Christina - Poignant.
Her toes are adorable. I love baby toes. My two-yr-old still has those sweet little beautiful feet. My seven-yr-old (son) had the prettiest baby feet ever…and now they are big boy feet! I still took a picture of them when he had them crossed under his bottom in the sand recently. They were still cute, after all. πŸ™‚ My oldest? Her feet are going to look like her dad’s! haha Long and thin.
You are such a good mama.

tara pollard pakosta - she’s so CUTE>
love that you just sat and watched her paint.
i did that and still do with my girls,
and I LOVE IT. it’s so neat, to just sit and
see what they create.
I LOVE your blog!
hugs!
tara

Mary P. - I’ve shed many tears w/ you this week. My 6 yr. old tender boy started kindergarten this year and it almost killed me, so your post about Annie and her preschool had me re-living last year. I also have a 4 yr. old who is finishing up her 1st year of preschool this week. The time we spend together at home I’m trying to be very “present” for. It’s been hard since I’m due w/ #3 in 2 weeks. I wish sometimes life could just stop so I could soak everything up.
I read something yesterday that really hit home w/ me and thought you might like as well. “the ordinary is just the extraordinary that’s happened over and over again.” Isn’t that true for us “at home” moms? I forget that WAY too often. May God grant us the grace of a normal day everyday.
FYI: I LOVE your blog.

AshleyAnn - Those are some sweet moments…for you and her.
You are a really great mom. A really great mom.

JJ - You are making me cry! Next week is my last week with my youngest- after 11 years of being home. My heart aches along with yours!
What a great memory you made with the painting project.

Tanya - Empty boxes should always be painted with love

Pamela duMont - Is that cookie crisp? Man you are a cool mom. My kids get cheerios. What is my problem? I would kill for a bowl of cookie crisp right now.

Kelly - yea for cookie crisp!

nora - wah, this is how i felt my last few days of maternity leave… if you find yourself too upset to eat your slice, feel free to send it to Jersey πŸ™‚

Melanie - I hope that you have a great summer. I will be thankful for the ONE child that I have:)
Have a good weekend.

Jaime Melcher - You’re so sweet! I just bought all the stuff to make rainbow cupcakes for my 3rd graders end of the school year party next Friday! Can’t wait! I hope you have a FABULOUS weekend!

Debbie S. - I feel your pain with the inside/outside/inside/outside and meals all day. I have to do MAJOR grocery shopping before summer kick-off Monday.

Julie - for whatever reason this blog made me cry. I have 4 more years until my last is in kindergarten….still to treasure the moments. Hope you have a great summer. look forward to reading about it! We have a whole month before our summer!

Elizabeth - I love your blog and how real you are, just beautiful. I found your blog because of your rainbow cake from last summer. I made it for my 5 year old’s birthday in Jan and have been reading your blog just about everyday since then. You have inspired me as a mom. Enjoy your summer with your children! -E

linda lou - sweet photos of annie and painting the box what a neat idea (: to mail. blessings.

Heidi Jo the Artist - I’m so glad you are not dreading spending the summer with the kids this year. I remember that last year and it saddened me to hear that. Sure, I have days that the kids get on my nerves too, but I pray to appreciate those days too, as crazy as that sounds; because I know people (one being my sister) that have had their children die and so I would rather have fighting then silence.
I just showed my son the photos of Annie painting the box, and guess what he wants to do!! I love all your (and your kids) creative ideas. It always gives us something new to try. πŸ™‚
Cheers to a great summer! πŸ™‚
P.S. Rainbow cake here I come, I have planned a Rainbow Brite birthday party for our daughter who just turned three. Just so I could make the SUPER COOL rainbow cake of yours. I will have to let you know how it goes!

Staci - We are not out until next Friday…but today is our last day because we are Disney bound!!! I have a ton of stuff to do before getting ready for this trip…and I am reading blogs πŸ™ I hope you have a terrific Summer !!!!!! Can’t wait to see it all in your fabulous pics πŸ™‚

Courtney - the rainbow cake! one of my favorite “things” i learned from you!

Lisa Currie-Gurney - MEG, I AM SO GLAD FOR YOU THAT YOU ARE A WISE MUM AND TAKE THE TIME THAT GOES BY US, EVEN IF WE DON’T WANT IT TOO.
HUGS FROM MAINE

Nicole Q. - I’m with ya . . . all week I kept thinking this was IT with the twins!! Next year they have to grow up. SNIFF SNIFF! HOpe to see ya at the grad party tomorrow, we’ve got a couple parties to make it too, it will be a busy day.

Lisa - OH. I can’t take anymore. I do NOT heart kindergarten. Last day of preschool at our house and I’ve been on the verge of tears all day. Way to soak up sweet memories with Annie!

amy d - you forgot the best part….SLEEPING IN!!!!! …almost as good as rainbow cake!

Jennifer - You will soon have a new type of normal to enjoy. It will be fun-this one will come home from kindergarten, talking your ear off telling you every little thing that happened. My oldest is like this and I hope it NEVER changes! Our summer starts next Friday-for right now at least, I can’t wait! πŸ™‚

Sarah@Clover Lane - yes, repost the rainbow cake! and i am SO looking forward to summer this year too…and last year i wasn’t either. i can’t wait for it all…the good and the bad.

Jaime - I love your pictures of Annie… =D
Summer starts the following week for us. I am going to sit down with the kids this weekend and create our summer “to do” list – the one you made last summer with your sweeties!?! It was such a great idea!

Karen Gerstenberger - My heart is with yours – and you are so right to savor every moment that you are “awake” and noticing the blessing of just BEING. Just being, and being with the ones you love, in peace. There are many hard, sad, frustrating, annoying moments, too, and those beautiful ones are pure gifts. So glad that you took time to reflect and to share with us…now we are awake to those moments, too.

sarah - I’ve been struggling with Kenzie not being my ‘baby’ anymore. She changes everyday, and sometimes I feel like I can’t hold on to the moments tight enough.
I agree why do ‘baby feet’ have to grow up. tear.
I want some rainbow cake.

Katie - Can you post your recipe for the rainbow cake? I can’t find it anywhere. I love reading your blog (and looking at)and smile everytime I come to it. I also like to link to your happy things. I even thought of you this morning when I made a smoothie.

Janine - Wow. I must be reading your blog for a year now. I think I started around the time of the last rainbow cake. Enjoy your summer. “summer” doesn’t start around here till mid/end of June.

Kirsten - Oh the rainbow cake! Makes me smile…I must make one. We still have 4 weels of school, but my baby is in 4th grade. I know this: we have an option for all-day kindy, or 1/2 day, and 1/2 day is so much less popular (why???) because many mom’s can’t wait to “get rid of their kids”. Me? No way, I was selfish and wanted my girlie to come home at lunchtime everyday and to have her to myself for that bit of the afternoon before her brother came home. I savored that last year.

Anna Marie - That is what I was going to ask. Haha! Gonna make that infamous rainbow cake like last year? Gosh, it seems like that was just yesterday. Have a great weekend, Megan!

Rebekah - Is that Cookie Crisp? I love that stuff. I haven’t had it since I was a kid. My mom never bought it, but my grandmother did. πŸ™‚
On a more serious note, this post makes my heart ache a little. I have a couple of years left before Ginny starts school, but I can see that day coming and I know that once it gets here every thing will change. I should be soaking up every minute of this precious time alone with her. Already I’m amazed at much she can do without my help. And I’m going to stop thinking about it now, before I cry. :}

tami reed - Funny how mom and daughters relate. My daughter and I have alot of friction but i love her soo much. She is soo different from me. My son and I have a great relationship and he is so funny. He is the jokester in the family lol.

Sandy - Was that Cookie Crisp in Annie’s bowl?! That was my favorite when I was a kid! I could still eat it.
So sad Annie’s little toes are growing up and going to kindergarten in the fall. I bet she’s excited though. πŸ™‚

Nancy - The rainbow cake… I just love that! My five year old has cereal with out milk as well. Must be a getting ready for Kindergarten thing. Enjoy your day.

elma - I so heart your blog. Enjoy your last day together:) Summer starts for us on june 2. Now that Adrian is five I am going to try to do some fun day trips and take the littles to Chicago for a couple of days I hope I survive. Love all the pictures!! You are such a FABULOUS mom!!!!!

Queen Bee - Oh you about brought me to tears.
My darling Kiddo goes to kindergarten this fall as well, and I had the very same internal *moment* as you last night, as I watched her brush her teeth.
All by herself.
No help necessary in turning on the water, getting the cap off the toothpaste, no step stool needed. I just watched her, mesmerized, thinking, “Remember this. Take this in and commit it to memory. This will be gone in the blink of an eye and never return.”

Jimina Anderson - Why do you have to be so perfect? Darling box idea! I’ll keep it in mind.

Vicki - You have tapped into one of life’s greatest secretes…..when all else fails….when the ship is going down…when nothing makes sense anymore…BAKE!!! Have a happy day!

first post of the year!

we enjoyed january 1, 2010 by sharing a candle lit dinner with our kids.
Candles
we even ate in the actual dining room.
with the christmas plates and glasses.
sean set the table with a tablecloth and got to light the candles…by himself!
(that is pretty exciting stuff if you are 9)

Card
talby made place cards and made the seating arrangement.
everyone was in charge of making one dish each…whatever they wanted.
(craig and i helped them)

Sean
the good kind.
velveeta brand…nothing but the best for a fancy dinner.

Scott
we made these on new years eve so made another batch last night too.
ALL fancy dinners have hot wings. (pioneer woman recipe)

Potatoes
since she was in charge there was no cheese on top…because she doesn't like melted cheese.
she likes cheese…but not when it melts…except on pizza…that melted cheese is ok.

Me
i had to push the fruit.
our kids would eat starch and sugar 24 -7
 if we let them.
(and so would i)

IMG_0772
everyone was cooking at once.
annie chose PANCAKES as her dish.
craig helped her make 6 chocolate chip pancakes….mmmm.

Milk
the kind from the store…in the milk section.
TREAT!

Frog
Cheers
fancy dinners also have napkins bibs…and tiaras.

Eat
and you know what?
there were no spills.
no fights.
no mean words.
and no crying.

it was a LOVELY meal.
i am sure this is a tradition we keep.

(ps: lauren wanted NOTHING to do with us.  she took a plate of food & ate alone in her room by choice)

*************************************************************************************************************************

i finally made some blog post categories!
i have gone through all of 2009 posts and assigned them categories.
and i will go back through rest soon.

now when you need a waffle fix you can click on "WAFFLE the wonder dog" & see all the pics of him!
at least all the pics of him in 2009.
so if you are new here…go have fun clicking through the categories.

Rachel / cREaTe - that is HYSTERICAL. 1st photo & text, i thought this was indeed a big fancy, formal event. then as the menu played out my smile just got bigger. hilarious. your kids will remember that forever. πŸ™‚ so fun to let kids be kids and run the show once in awhile.

Diana - I would have helped Talby with those mashed taters! They look scrumptious! {I don’t like cheese melted on anything but pizza either… well, maybe on cheeseburgers, too.}
LOVELY family, LOVELY meal… such LOVE!
Happy New Year to all of you!

the inadvertent farmer - Raising my glass of chocolate rice milk in your direction…cheers! Have a happy, healthy, and blessed new year, Kim

Logan - You are a fun mom. I know it isn’t perfection all the time, but you are creating wonderful memories for your kids and I love reading about your adventures and seeing the pictures. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Laura Phelps - we got a hamster and a case of beer on New Years Day.
hmmm….
I am feeling like I have fallen a little short here…

Amanda Garrett - Your family is too cute. I always enjoy reading your blog. Happy New Year!

Amy - What a great idea! So cute! πŸ™‚

Vicki - How wonderful to live in a house where the hum in the background is filled with laughter, happy busy chatter (okay, maybe a fight or two now and then, and memory making. You gotta feel the love, just gots too. Even if your not sitting at the table but up in your room, you still feel it. That’s the stuff that you take with you when you leave home and go out into the world on your own. When you start a family of your own and some how automatically know what it means to be a family. It’s cause your mom did stuff like this.
I think we started a tradition at our house too this year. We have little ones so we did a brunch for New Years day with family and friends. It was so much better than staying up late with little kiddos and having them be grumpy all day. Think we’ll do it next year. Happy New Year!

Jenn Grigoryev - i can’t wait till my three boys are big enough to try this idea out. what a fun mom you are.

amy jupin - this looks fun!
too bad lauren didn’t want to join y’all…one day that too will change! πŸ™‚
happy happy new year, my friend!

jessica - Oops! Typo. You make my day with “your posts”…..not no posts. You are the best! Thanks for inspiration and smiles!!
Jessica, Alabama

jessica - Can’t stand it anymore. Had to comment! I have been a long-time blog stalker. I just love it!!! You made my day with no posts and always make me smile. After reading this post I had to tell you…..you are seriously the best mommy on the planet. I cannot believe you balance five kiddos so well, and you are just a spring chicken yourself. Kuddos to you, your beautiful family, and all of your fabulous ideas. Cheers and Happy New Year!!!
-Jessica, Alabama

WizzyTheStick - I tried family dinner on my birthday. The results was sad or hilarious, depends on if you are a cup half full or half empty kinda person. From reading this post I’m guessing you fall into the former category. Great share. Loved this peek into your family life.

aubrey - You have such a lot of really good ideas and I really like this one. When my kid are big enough to do their own cooking, I think I’ll try this one. Maybe by then we’ll have a dining room too. πŸ˜‰
Oh, and I feel like a jerk that I didn’t buy chocolate milk for any meals over the holidays–I’ll have to remember to do that next year. It’s so nice when the little ones are so easily satisfied. πŸ˜‰
I have to say (even though I haven’t had teenagers yet, but stil remember being one)–it’s kind of cool that you let Lauren have her space and exercise her independence (within reason it looks like). My parents didn’t let me and I resented it sometimes, but I came around anyway. I think you’re doing a really really good job as a mom.

Liesl - How fun! Meg, what are your christmas dishes. They look so fun!! I am looking for holiday/winter tableware . . .
Thanks – I enjoy your posts and your creativity. Happy New year!!

Sarah @ Clover Lane - That fruit salad looks SO good…the other stuff looks good because for once a mother knows it will ALL be eaten! Everyone’s happy, yeah!!!!

Julie - now, THIS is why i love your blog. Incredible family. incredible inspiration. happy new year!

DreamGirlLisa - Love it! Carbs rule!!!!
Lauren will come back to you, teenage years are a challenge, but fun too.

gina - Looks like a great tradition to start! My 15 yo calls most things we do, that she joins “Triple F”. >sigh<

Dena Rooney-Berg (sugarshop) - What a seriously fun dinner!!! Thanks for linking to my Pineapple Vodka post! Not only did it lead me to your site (LOVE it) but it’s been fun to meet some of your readers as well! Can’t wait to see how your Pineapple Vodka turned out and to see if it was a hit. XOXO

julia - in a few years Lauren will say “why aren’t I in any of the pictures???”

Christina - This is so great! I LOVE your fancy dinner. What a fantastic idea…everyone looks like they had such a good time.
When you said the kids would eat sugar/starch 24/7, but so would you I chuckled…the apples never fall far from the tree. It’s true here, too. My youngest has a new play kitchen from Christmas, and she has been cooking these last few days. I think she’s made chicken once (which she doesn’t really eat), and the rest of her creations have been chocolate. πŸ™‚

Dianne Avery - Looks like a perfect evening! Fun pics as usual. πŸ™‚

Kelly - Such fun! I love y’all’s definition of a fancy dinner! I am excited to have fancy dinners with my kids one day! Right now I can tell the baby likes to eat because he/she usually kicks during dinner. πŸ™‚ Kelly

Karen - What a great Mom you are! My two cents says ‘make’ her participate. We had the same troubles w/ our oldest. At one point I mustered everything I had not to push him out of the car on a vacation, but to hear him tell it now, it was THE BEST vacation! Unreal! (Was he on the same vacation with us??? He made it MISERABLE from beginning to end!) Kids. Go figure.

renee cauley - What a great night… Don’t worry bout Lauren, kids do the funniest things…. Mine are all grown now and they want to hang out with us and go on vacations with us… strange… its all good. I just love your blog…Have a happpy 2010

Mrs. - Sorry about Lauren. My oldest is 12 and I am really, REALLY having a hard time LIKING her. I can’t believe that we shared the same food, air and blood for 9 months. She seems so disconnected from me. I imagine soon she will want to eat alone like Lauren as well. *sigh!*

Lorilee - How fun to cook together. I usually cook alone! Sometimes my sweety will help, but the boys run and hide! I’m not sure where I went wrong!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Erin V. - What a great idea! I love the fun stuff you come up with to do with your kids!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Aw man…I wondered about Lauren. Thought for sure her dish would be something really cool – like sushi or something olivey.
Sounds like good ol’ messy fun! And the menu is to die for.

Christian@Modobject at Home - “…there was no cheese on top…because she doesn’t like melted cheese.
she likes cheese…but not when it melts…except on pizza…that melted cheese is ok.”
My seven year old son’s sentiments EXACTLY.

Lori - Great family time idea. And aren’t teenagers just the best?! If it’s any consolation, our teen daughter was exactly the same. But as she turned 18 and nears the time to go to college, she seems to enjoy some of our family times more than she used to.
Thanks for all of your real, sometimes funny and sometimes touching posts. The present you opened from your parents made me cry too.

Rach - What a fun tradition! Great to get everyone working together.

Vera - This is SO much better than black eyed peas and ham hocks and greens ha! Sounds like a great, fun, and yummy tradition!!

Sue K. - HaPpY NeW yEaR!1! Wow. What a great tradition! I love it…gonna copy this one for sure! So Im wondering, who helped with the cleanup?? That is the worst part by far for me πŸ˜›
Blessings to you and your family in 2010.

Shari Barnes - Is that a Jenn Air gas cooktop in the island? We have one and it looks very similiar – LOVE it! πŸ™‚ Looks like a geat meal!!!

jeanne - I love all the sweet things that your family does together!!! I truly believe that someday your “children will rise up and call you blessed”.

Melanie - You are a great mom, Meg! You are the fun mom and your kids will remember these things that you do for them. Sorry about Lauren:( I just don’t know what to say about that. I have a 15 yr. old son and I haven’t had the ‘teen’ thing happen. I know that I am lucky and I wish that for you.

Heather Giustino - How fun!!! Everything you guys made sounds so yummy (especially the Velveeta mac ‘n cheese – my “yucky” treat!) We had a fancy dinner too, and even drank sparkling cider out of champagne glasses : )
Happy New Year to you and your sweet family!

Kate - That all looks lovely!
Eeek, teenagers are vile creatures! heh heh

Tanya - Adorable! Great first post of the year!

Naomi - I don’t comment often, but read ALWAYS. What a FUN tradition. Can we borrow and copy it?
Still making that rainbow cake you posted about eons ago!

immyyas - This was really sweet. What a fun idea & a great way to include each kiddo. I might have to steal this idea… : )

H-Mama - you’re such a fun mom. πŸ˜‰

Mindy - This is so much fun! I am stealing it for our fam! My kids are little though so it might be hard for them to help a lot but at least they could each choose. Don’t worry about Lauren, I was the same way when I was her age and I turned out okay … just takes a while sometimes. You are a great mom!

stef - the chocolate milk part made me LOL. My kids would love fancy dinners at your place πŸ™‚
Happy New Year!

mary - awesome!
and don’t worry a bit about lauren
i remember how i was at that age
and my sister, my cousins, my friends, etc
chocolate milk rocks…and annie is a good pancake chooser(tell her i said that she will giggle)

sandy toe - Sounds perfect.
sandy toe

se7en - Lovely tradition – Oh keep it up!!!

Tiffany Morris - How fun is this! You guys do some really cool things… thanks for sharing ideas with all of us!
Hugs – Tiffany

Keri R. - I am just like Talby! I love cheese but not when its melted! Unless of course on Pizza!!! Happy New Year!

Pineapple Princess - I love how you celebrate! So fun! πŸ™‚
Happy New Year to you and your awesome family!!

Kimberly - What a wonderful idea!!! Happy New Year!
Kimberly
http://yeptheyareallmine.blogspot.com/

Kelly - What fun! And too bad Lauren missed out! It looks like a great time! I love traditions like this! We have a similar one on New Year’s Eve πŸ™‚
And I agree on the chocolate milk from the store. My boys go crazy when we have that stuff in the house! I actually almost got it for our New Year’s Eve bash but opted for orange pop in bottles which was a big hit too. πŸ™‚ Happy New Year!

Courtney Walsh - Seriously agree about the chocolate milk from the store in the fridge section. What is it about that stuff? It’s like dessert. Yum.
I love your fancy dinner. πŸ™‚ Good stuff, Meg!

Jacci - Great fun πŸ™‚ Sorry Lauren was a stinker.
Categories are also great fun! Thanks!!! And Happy New Year πŸ™‚
~Jacci in Ohio

Georgia - Happy new year!
I LOVE the fancy dinner idea, its brilliant!!!
Im the same as Talby, melted cheese is Yukky except on pizza, or Pasta is ok. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
xxx

Sarah @ Dream In Domestic - Happy New Year, Meg!!! What a beautiful meal with your beautiful family! Thanks for the categories. I’m not new, but I like to go back from time to time to find things, so that will be very helpful!

sarah - So fun!! I love that everyone made a dish, and the chocolate milk in pretty christmas glasses.
I love that Annie made pancakes… since that’s what they chose to eat, when we had enchiladas, when I was her age… or maybe just a few years ago, I probably would have chosen pancakes too!

Dina - What a great New Year tradition! My kids are 5, 3, and 1 and always WANT to help cook … but really I must draw the line:-) … I guess I need to step back and just enjoy the fact that they WANT to take part in meal preparation:-)
Happy New Year!!!!

Nicole Q. - love the idea of the kids each making a dish. good idea . i also bawled at your xmas gift from your dad . . . what a neat gift and so much meaning!!! Happy New Year!

diane - I love this idea!
I totally get Talby and her cheese preferences.
I don’t like cheese but I love queso. My husband likes to point out that what I am really saying is, I don’t like cheese, but I love cheese.
At almost 31, I am starting to branch out though. Maybe in this next decade I can simply say, I like cheese.
Happy New Year!

Holly - That sounds like fun! We actually started off 2010 by having cresent chicken and the kids LOVED it!
Happy New Year to you and your family!

carissa... brown eyed fox - i love it! we have got to get on the kids making a dish thing… seen yall do that before too… i just love that!
now…
raising my coffee mug right now… wait… hold on… okay…
{cheers}
here’s to an awesome year!
and meg… i have to say…
thanks for being such a big inspiration in my life in 09.
you make me laugh… hard.
you make me cry… just yesterday.
you make me want to dance… even if i look like a fool.
thanks girl! big hugs… buckets of blessings!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - LOVE IT! What a wonderful way to bring in the New Year. I love everyone in the kitchen making their favorite dish. Great pics of all of you. Just warms my heart:)
Oh and your daughter being a teenager…that just kills me. I swear when my kids get to that stage I’m gonna need a pill or something to help me get through it:0

michelle - so fun Meg! what a great idea and a wonderful memory created. we might have to try it. i think it would be interesting just to see what it would be that my kids would chose as their dish. hmmmm? too bad about Lauren. sadly, i would have probably been just like her. always bucking the system i was. she’ll come around.
happy new year my dear friend!
xoxo

Staci - What a FUN night!!!!!!! I am soooo glad there was no fighting!!! I wish your dear sweet family the Happiest of New Years!!!!!!!!!!!!

five

this is an account of annie's fifth birthday.
IMG_2065
annie found this note on her door and started asking who made it for her.
i could tell sean had so she went to him and asked "sean…do you love me?!"
he answered…"it's your birthday so i made you a card."
he was not going to say he loved her.
but his actions spoke it.  and he told talby "i used that because it's her favorite color"
i was smiling while listening to this hall way conversation still in my warm bed…6:45 AM.

annie is now five years old.
that is crazy.
and hard to have my baby be that age.

we took her two best buddies micah and eliza swimming…at 10:30 on a tuesday morning.
IMG_1907
IMG_1959
IMG_1935
i felt just like i was back in my daycare days.
when lauren was this age i used to take her and my daycare kids (other 3 & 4 years olds) swimming.
then we'd have to get all dried off and dressed…that was what reminded me…3 times over.

IMG_1964
IMG_1962

annie chose wendy's for her birthday lunch.
she started with pizza hut…changed her plans to sonic….then decided on wendy's 20 minutes before.
for the frosty.
which she only ate/drank half of anyway.
we took our happy meals to the park and ate on the top of the slide.
then the three of them played a game which consisted of screaming for help and running from "the boss"
weird.
but it kept them busy for 45 minutes.

IMG_1976
a birthday card in the mail….with money…SCORE!  thanks great grandma!!

IMG_1988
micah gave her some paint and it was the first thing she wanted to do when we got home.

IMG_2048
i think annie was relieved to have her birthday over.
the pressure and excitement she was putting on herself for a month was exhausting her.
she told me so many times that she was "five now"…"ready for kindergarten" and "really big"

but she's my baby.

sniffle sniffle…my baby is not even close to a baby anymore.
pass the kleenex please.

Robin - I just finished copying Annie’s cake for my 4 year old’s birthday party tomorrow. It is just perfect for him. Love your style! Thanks!

everything!
did you ever cry?
yes! i cried the WHOLE way to swimming and then i never cried again.
did megan help you?
yes.
did you feel safe?
yes.
why did you cry?
i wanted you.
but then you had fun?
yes!
so next time you won’t cry because you know how to do it!
oh, i will cry. i will cry every time. and then i will stop.

it was a big surprise

we arranged for annie to have her first sleepover.
she couldn't wait.
she ran right into micah's house…we said goodbye and took the 4 oldest on a surprise road trip.

they figured it halfway there.
IMG_7323
we found tickets on ebay for a steal and decided this was the year.
the kids are old enough to like it and handle it….but young enough to still want to be with us.
(most of them)

they were PUMPED!
we got there early…had good seats…the top row against the windows so no one could spill beer on us.
loved that.
and no one behind us so we could stand as much as we wanted without bothering anyone.

also able to wait inside if we were cold…which sean was.
IMG_7337

walking into the stadium talby said "this is almost as cool as california".
IMG_7347

IMG_7330
i would love to have that pink hair for a few days….LOVE it! (i'm serious)
can you imagine how much money that couple spends on hair products in a month?!

IMG_7352
the music started and talby yelled "mom! this is even better than tv!"

IMG_7362
the black peas were the warm-up band.
they were….ummm….not U2?
they finally played "i got a feelin'" at the end so i was happy.
could have done without all the swearing at 10,000 decibels…but whatever…
i sound like i brought my kids or something?!  ha.
where is the class black eyed peas?  you don't have to swear to be cool….just ask bono.

waiting inside between when the two bands were playing.
IMG_7436
we played a lot of hangman…

talby is whispering "say E"
IMG_7438
lauren HAD to text her friend!
i don't blame her.
(you see…she doesn't have a cell phone…and we don't have texting…but this was worth the .40 charge)

 IMG_7435
IMG_7460
U2 finally came out!!  it was
AWESOME.
U2 live could never disappoint.
talby yelled "i can't even hear myself"
and i said "that means you can sing as loud as you want!"
so she did.
and so did i.
and then she yelled  "this IS as good as Worlds of FUN!"
IMG_7445
IMG_7441
IMG_7446
IMG_7465

halfway through lauren was dying to go to ground level so craig took her and scott down.
i sent the camera.
lauren got all the rest of these pictures
craig said ground level was….really cool.

IMG_7600
IMG_7636
IMG_7557

i love the cell phones and cameras in everybody's hands.
so much cooler than lighters.
IMG_7702
IMG_7676

it rocked.
a great surprise.
i hope they remember it forever.

and i hope we didn't permanently damage their hearing.

Messy@Bungalow'56 - They will never forget that their parents were cool enough to bring them to this concert!

jeanne - Great photos and what an incredible evening! Smiles on EVERYONE’S faces!!!!

Jenny - No Way!! We saw them in Norman, OK! Weren’t they amazing???

cre8ivegirl - I love the picture of the all the camera phones in the air! Hilarious. Sign of the times.

Hannah - You are the coolest mom ever. Fact.

Christina - Oh, they will remember it forever!! You two must be some of the coolest parents on the planet. Wow. Do you know that I found out that U2 was in Dallas the day they were here?! I’m still yelling about that, inside my head.
I love that picture of the cell phones and your comment-it’s a fantastic picture statement on the evolution of things as technology changes. Very fun.
I loved reading this post…when you said you had a surprise road trip and I scrolled down to see the tickets I said, out loud, and I’m all by myself, “No way!” What an awesome time.
And the Black Eyed Peas before U2…what is up with that?!
On a totally random and different note, I thought of you today because I went to Ikea and after I posted about it last time I went you happened to visit my blog and comment on that. Isn’t it funny how things get stuck in your head? Anyway, your family is so fun, and you are making great memories!!

Becca Parker - Awesome memories for your kids and you are the cool parents, Bonus!!!

Lucy Buller - cooooooooooooooooool. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

HomageBlog - They will remember. What a GREAT surprise! ~K

Laura Lynn - Cory and Larissa were there too….so sad you all couldn’t have met up. Your kids would have loved seeing how old the girls were that you used to babysit!!!!

Sara - My husband surprised me with U2 tickets for my birthday. We’re flying to Vegas Friday to see them. “U2 in concert” is on our list of “things to do before we die” so we’re excited to finally be crossing it off our list! You got to go TWICE this year! How awesome you brought the kids.

Christa - Once again, wickedly jealous! U2 at Fedex field in September was spectacular. I would kill to see them again with this stage set up!

Jodi - You are now my favorite blogger even more!! I saw my first U2 concert when I was 14. What a cool thing you and your husband did for your kids! Snow Patrol was the best opening act they had on this tour, or ever for that matter.
Thanks for sharing, glad you got to see them again! I can’t wait for 2010!

amy mumaw - How FUN!!!!! You are the coolest mom!

Niki - OH MY GOSH…I read you all the time but don’t post much. But I had to this time because me and hubs were there too!!! It was our first U2 concert and WOWWWWW! What an awesome thing to take your kids. I totally want to go again and take my oldest!

Dana Banana - You are very cool parents. So NOT the parents we had growing up!

Christina - You are the coolest parents ever. We missed U2 in Atlanta and I really regret it. Muse opened for them here which would have been enjoyable for the most part. Looks like a wonderful time was had by all. I would have wanted to text my friend too. Great pictures as always.

katie - okay, meg, so i read your blog all the time but i don’t think i’ve ever left a comment. today, i had to. this is seriously one of the coolest posts i’ve seen anywhere in a long, long time. i LOVE that you guys did this for your kids. they will never ever forget it. when i was in 7th grade we went to my first concert, garth brooks. to this day it is still my favorite concert ever, and it wasn’t even a surprise! if your kids didn’t think you were cool before, i’m certain they do now. actually, i was reading the post thinking i wish i was one of your kids! πŸ™‚

Amanda - Oh man. That is so awesome. You all look so happy to be there! (I don’t know why nobody would not be happy… Just observing.) I feel like I should touch your hand next time I see you. You breathed the same air as Bono.

Scrappy Girl - How cool! That is so awesome. Bummer on the Black Eyed Peas…I love Boom Boom POW!

Mother Runner - OH! I can hear every song.
Ground level IS better!
and…
YOU ROCK! What super cool parents you are!

colleen - I would have flipped if my parents took me to see a cool band like U2 when I was 12 or 13. I do remember seeing Culture Club with my mom and girlfriend when I was 16 but I don’t know if that is quite the same thing. The cell phone/band photo is awesome. So love U2!

pve - can you tell your kids that my 1st concert was Queen, “We will rock you” –
I was a teenager and that will never be erased from my brain.
pve

sarah - I just love that shot of Lauren smiling and the other kiddos in the background.
It made my heart smile.
Looks like a blast!

Laura Phelps - I am a BEP fan…sorry…we can still be friends though, right?
And how much do I love that it was almost as cool as CA?????????????????
why didn’t you bring Annie?????? (that is a joke, ya know…)

Miranda - Um wow. am thinking i read the blog of the COOLEST MOM EVER. (include dad in that coolest ever compliment too.) πŸ™‚

Diana - Perfectly awesome!
You can’t hear me??? I said…
PERFECTLY AWESOME!!!
You and Craig totally ROCK as parents. So sweet. πŸ™‚

Jaime - You freakin rock.
That’s all I have to say.
Oh, and your kids are cool, too.

susie whyte - such great pictures!!! my friend was at this concert, too, so i’ll have to send her over to check all of them out.
also…got an invite to a wine tasting in november. interested???

tami reed - That is so kewl Ive always wanted to interview U2 they look really cool and down to earth.

Brent - you guys rock. i was totally there in the “inner circle”. i was like 5′ away from Bono!

taylor - i don’t normally comment…. but i’m bored waiting for a genius appointment in the apple store. i read your blog regularly… i would have flipped if i saw your family… i was at the same concert in norman!!! my husband makes fun of me for knowing about random family blogs online… i justify reading yours because we have a goldendoodle like yours and i tell him i read too look for cute pictures of what our pup might turn out like. ANYWAY… U2 was awesome. norman will never be the same πŸ™‚

Anne - Ah! U2’s Zoo TV Tour was the first concert I ever went to! Where can I submit my ballot for your Mother Of The Year nomination?
And I remember when the BEPs were underground-without Fergie- and didn’t cuss. I blame her for everything.

Anna Marie - I bet that was amazing! A good friend of mine was there too. Even a few days later he was still trying to come down from a “U2 high”…ha! I am sure they will always remember that. What cool parents you two are!

Cassie - geez. what’s WRONG with me?
that post seriously made me cry.
sounds like a perfect night!
way to go, mom!
(and i got bright red stipes in my hair this weekend…i think i’m going thru something hormonal!)

Julie - This solidifies it. You are THE COOLEST PARENTS EVER. They will never forget this – what a special moment. Thank you for sharing it!

Jaimie - wow, you are the coolest parents in the world!!!

Suzanne - coolest parents ever! hopefully I can be as cool someday! I love that Talby’s comparison was “as good as Worlds of Fun.” It must have been good πŸ™‚

Heidi Jo the Artist - Thanks for sharing! Now, I’m going to have to check last minute on eBay to see if anyone is selling tickets super cheap in our area for various bands that we love.
That is awesome you took the kiddos too! We have taken the kids to quite a few concerts even though our kids are only ages 6 and 2!? Probably some think we are crazy but we have chosen wisely, going to mainly festivals so we aren’t the only people with kids. I didn’t go to a real concert (besides school band-does that even count!?) until I was an adult, so I guess that is why I’ve wanted to take our kids. We’ve seen Anberlin (one of my favorite bands) 3 times and some of my husband’s students were in awe last week when he told them that and other concerts he’s been to…he’s been to a lot more than me!
Since you’ve lived in Illinois I’m curious if you have ever been to the Cornerstone (http://www.cornerstonefestival.com/) Festival? We’ve gone quite a few times and it is a fun time! So if you do decide to go and buy tickets-here is a 5% off code: CF3541 and that goes for anyone else reading this!
Anyhow, still reading and enjoying your lovely blog! I’m working on a 31 Things to do before I turn 31, I’ll let you know when it is complete so you can read it, loved your list. πŸ˜‰ Oh and if you decide to go to the Cornerstone Festival and stay there you could cross camping outside in a tent off your list. That is where I learned to camp in a tent and I’ve never looked back…hmmm, well almost, we have a rule now that we have to camp with 2 other groups of people that don’t know each other because of a couple of scary experiences. But I really DO enjoy camping and a festival is a great place to start compared to heavily wooded areas!! Have a great week!

lauren - omg! been reading your blog for awhile. i live in dallas but my son goes to ou. he was walking on campus last night and texted (when you do get it, you won’t know how you lived without it) that he could hear the black eyed peas from the stadium…and you were there! what a small world! i feel like we have something huge in common. my parents took my sister and me to concerts when we were young and i love taking my kids now. as you’ve already figured out, it is great bonding. when they’re teenagers, you need all the bonding you can get.

Heather - That is great! Good memories for your kids. And Lauren’s proof, cool teens CAN survive without cell phones! Who would’ve thunk it?

patti - ok…how cool! you guys get the “cool parents award” (if there is one)
but what really cracked me up was the photos from the floor with all the iPhones and cell phones and cameras up in the air. lol – so funny!!
it used to be that people held lighters up at concerts. wow, i’m old.

Lisa Liddell - Now that is my kind of family outing! Jealous MUCH

Elisa - Love it- haven’t seen U2 in years. What a great surprise!

Meredith - I’m so happy to see Lauren! I haven’t spotted her in months. You all look so beautiful and happy. Well done for seizing the moment, as usual you have set the standard! I would love to take each of your children aside and quietly whisper in their ear “Only five children in the world get to have your parents….and you’re one of them. How awesome is that!.” Meredith xo.

Melanie - How much fun was that?! Your kids will never forget what y’all did for them. That was a great surprise and gift. I think that I saw Lauren smiling too;)

tricia - I have seen so many U2 posts these days. I’m not that big of a U2 fan…but I’m starting to develop concert envy!!
Love the pics…it really does look like an amazing concert.

mel - You are the COOLEST parents. EVER. Wow! U2 is so amazing live. We saw them live (in California, that is where I live) in 2001. It was my husband’s first concert ever. It was so awesome. No Doubt opened up for us at that concert & the No Doubt drummer wasn’t wearing any pants, just a thong!?! What is up with U2 having “interesting” opening acts?

Amy G - How cool!! What a great thing for you guys to do together. Love it!

amy - you and craig get major bonus points for this one.
looked like lauren was actually really smiling in that one pic!
p.s. i think you better ger her a camera for xmas this year. her shots were amazing! πŸ™‚

Ashley Ann - Lauren has a beautiful smile and talent behind the camera. Looks like an unforgettable night, unlike my dinner at Panera that same night!

Sandy - while you’re at it, please adopt me too!!

Liz - Yep. You guys are a super cool family. It was a great concert, I loved it. But didnt the weird space-ship/spider thing throw you off a little? I was like, “Um, does it have chicken pox?”

Sami Melton - Wow! So much fun! Love the pictures!!! Great surprise

Lee Ann - I’ve always thought, but now I know….you ARE the coolest parents ever!!!!!

Lacy Brauner - I know sister can have an attitude, I totally did to at that age..but Id say meg, shes got talent. i guess she gets it from her mama. just a hint, use that as a bonding thing..photography. Your pics are amazing as usual;] but hers were so cool with the lighting and everything! IDk, take a roadie just you and her and the camera, I bet she would be just as great as you! Thanks for sharing. love it as always!

Kelly - You guys are so, so much fun! What a great surprise! Glad you had a great time. Kelly

Jennifer P. - yup–wish you were my mom :)!

Jaclyn - You’re the best mom ever! I want to go to U2. Will you adopt me?

kasey - sounds like a blast..even though my kids Love BEP’s…
xo

Ruth - you guys are too cool… and that photo with the notebook held up is the cutest thing EVER!! (i have to say i saw the title of your post and thought something completely different… ha!)

Beth Ann - That is awesome you got to go! And I bet the kids LOVED it. What a cool surprise.

traci - that is the greatest surprise!! you and craig rock!!! the kids look like they are having the best time!!

Cookin' with Kelly - You did have great seats! I was there too, but we were on the otherside. Great pix. What an experience for your kids!

Notesfromthegrove - That is one KILLER surprise! HOW FUN!

misty - OMGOSH!!! WE WERE THERE!!!!!! It was AWESOME!!!! but please tell Talby that Oklahoma is not as cool as California! just kidding! ;0) Actually, California isn’t as cool as Kansas I believe~ or at least you make it seem so amazing in this blog!

maria - You both are the COOLEST PARENTS!!!

kat - I wish you were MY mom!!! Oh wait, I’m older than you… That is the best surprise ever! They will definitely remember and talk about it for the rest of their lives.

Christy - WOW! I agree, you are the coolest momma EVER! They are coming here this week, I wish I was going. I have never been to a U2 concert, but I hear it is amazing!
Great shots by Lauren! Talby is a doll. She is too funny.

Courtney - I love concerts, and can’t wait to take my kids – unfortunately it’ll be a while still, our oldest (and only at the moment) is just 2. Still, I’m totally looking forward to it!,,,

Hannah - You guys are the coolest parents ever. Hands down.
πŸ˜€
It looks like you all had a ton of fun!

Summer - What an awesome memory for you and your kids!! So fun!!

Starnes Fam - Super cute. My husband and I have always dreamed of taking little ones to concerts, but I think it’s best to wait as you did. Glad you enjoyed it!

adrienneK - def. not a U2 fan but what cool surprise! oh and btw the peas used to be really good before fergie joined them, they never used foul language, they were all about the peace now it seems only about record sales.:)

TRACI - You are a cool mom for sure but I just dont get all the hoopla over u2 or Bono….I know, Im mostly alone..lol

Julie - okay, what is it about this post that makes me want to cry? Seriously?!…taking your kids to U2?!!! Does not get any better than that. What a treat for the whole family! amazing memories.

Teresa - What a great experience!!! {love the Jayhawk hat!}

elizabeth - What a fantastic thing to do with your kids. And I have to admit that having one of them say that it was ALMOST as cool as California made me smile (I know that was BEFORE the concert, though!).
Wonderful, rockin’ photos, too.

Stephanie - What a great memory for them!
I remember I took my son and his friends to an all-day music festival when they were 14 or 15 – they loved it!!
p.s. OK, I’ll be the one to say it: Lauren doesn’t have a cell phone? Mom!!!!

Crystal - Yay for you guys!! And the bonus is that you got a photo with Lauren smiling!!!! πŸ™‚

Trish - you are so awesome!
i was thinking maybe you should cross two things off of your list by having a fun craft weekend with way cool bloggers! as long as i’m on the list πŸ˜‰

Kate - U2… you are the coolest mom E-V-E-R! If your kids disagree, I am available for adoption πŸ™‚ Have a great week!

my birthday was just right.

IMG_4525
craig let me sleep in and HE got the kids ready and took them to school…so quietly.
annie snuck in to tell me happy birthday and she was wearing this.
loved it.
after she was off to school i took off for wichita for some shopping/browsing alone.
(i really do love to be alone…so that was cool to get time to do that on my birthday…i am a dork)

if i had gone to the bookstore
first i doubt i would've left.

i just love looking through
so many books.
i never buy any….i am that lady.
the one with the huge stack
of books and leaves with nothing.
sorry barnes and noble.

i went to the fabric store

first and found anna maria horner
in wichita!  that's exciting.
i asked the woman working in
the tiny shop if they had more
and she very quickly said "No."
i thought that was weird.
sure enough…
i did find more in the wrong
spot…mixed in with strange
fabrics.
the lady said
"i like this Ann Martin."
????

she must need better glasses.

i met up with two girls
for lunch at sugar sisters.

we ate our cupcakes first.

oh yum…

i got the

SALTED CARMEL.
the other girls got chocolate.
i totally want to bake after
i go there…bake pretty that is.

i wished we had all day to hang out…i am sure we would have been able to talk the entire time.  :)

they were worried about their double chins….and look who is the only one who has one.  HA!

i had held it in my hands earlier that day in starbucks by myself and thought

"i love this…who could i get it for?  i LOVE it!"

then i put it back on the shelf and forgot about it.

nice job craiggers.

it was a good day.

craig wanted to do more for me but i kept saying "i'm fine.  let's just sit here at home."

i was happy to be home.

and loved.

and thought of.

thanks for all the birthday wishes.

thanks for reading the blog-o-la.

i am one happy thirty four year old.

eds - the salted caramel is the absolute best! (and i would know b/c one time i went and tried almost all of the ones available…oops!)

Jennifer Whitcombb - Hope you had a great birthday! What fabric store did you go to in Wichita? I can never find anything I like at Hancock fabrics! Thanks!
Jennifer

kristin - happy birthday, friend.
annie announced to the class that it was your birthday. and yes, that outfit was GOOD.

Sarah V. - I’m glad you had a good day! Happy Birthday again!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - You make me even more excited for 34. (It’s less than a year away, after all…) Also, have I ever told you how much I love the fact that you allow your kids to dress like crazy people? I let my kids dress like crazy people, too, but I think I’m the only one around my parts. All the other pre-schoolers are all “cool” looking and coordinated, while Calvin is wearing kelly green track pants with a tie-dyed t-shirt with a red IU mesh jersey over top. Hang on, almost done here…. I also love, love, love spending an afternoon alone and sleeping in is the best gift and everytime I hear “I’m Alive” I think of you, which is weird, since I don’t even know you.
The end.

Laura Phelps - WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!!! I DO KNOW WH I AM SO SAD!!!!!!!!!
You are ONLY 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
34
holy moly
so fantastic and so many kids and so talented and such a beautiful home….
and ONLY
34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel old
THAT is why I felt sad
phew…I feel better now knowing…thought I had lost my blogging mind!

Laura Phelps - I dont know why, but this post made me happy-sad. Don’t even know what that is! Just happy…to see you happy…doing things that would totally make ME happy, but sort of sad, too…because…I dont know! Maybe because the pictures are SO beautiful, and I FEEL their beauty, and I wish I could be doing all of what you did RIGHT NOW instead of having a sort or boring, depressing Saturday….wow…I think I need therapy! Got this all from one birthday post!
I just think you and your life are awesome. And I thank YOU for sharing it all with me.

Trina McNeilly - Happy happy birthday to you!!!! Sounds like a delightful day! And I know you will have a beautiful year! God bless!

Kyleigh Orlebar - I’ve just googled ‘Life is Beautiful’ – I’ve never seen it! Might have to add it to my LoveFilm account… Your birthday looked ACES BACES! I’m loving Annie’s outfit – it’s a shame over here in EnGERland little tots have to start wearing school uniform from age 4 or so, still there’s always weekends for a little outfit surprise!

DreamGirlLisa - What a great birthday! One of my favorite things to do,and I usually do it alone, but have been known to bring a friend or my 13 year-old daughter, is to sit for hours at B & N with a coffee and big stack of magazines and decorating/cookbooks…and I never buy anything (besides the coffee). Sounds like you had a perfect day, ending with those most important in you life, what could be better??

Kelly - happy birthday!!

Lora - OK. I need to move to the USA. They do not write your name on the cup at Starbucks here in Canada. Would it be so difficult? And, they don’t have those mugs….it’s irritating how many COOL things I see on here and try to order them, only to get the message, “not shipped to Canada”. ninety.

yes…my grandmother celebrated her 90th birthday last weekend.

90?!

i think that is so cool.

IMG_1649

the whole family came to a brunch in her honor.

everyone.

she was so happy to see them all…it's been awhile for some of us.

she even had us introduce ourselves.

scott said his name was michael jordan…but cracked up before he finished.

we're working on his comedic timing.

IMG_1639

i got to catch up with some family i haven't seen since they were kids…now they have kids!

IMG_1646

IMG_1644 IMG_1653

IMG_1655

i gave lauren the camera…she was in charge of all the photos.

i think she got everyone in at least one of the pictures.

she is a good photographer and like most good ones…she gravitated towards the cutest model.

IMG_1734

not ME…Nolan!

this was my first time meeting Nolan.

i fell instantly in love and couldn't stop smelling his head.

he is a chunky drooly baby and i desperately wanted to keep him.

IMG_1715

brian is Nolan's daddy.

he is my cousin…i see him about once a year…maybe.

i like him.

i miss him.

and i really wish i could spend lots of time with his beautiful wife julie…she is so sweet!

we never get enough time to talk.

brian could not have found a better wife.

IMG_1706

he was covered in kisses from the whole family.

grandma opened her gifts & cards.

the 90 sweatshirt was pretty funny.

IMG_1674

it had to be a sweatshirt because she's always cold.

at my house she freezes!
