i’m watching reruns to tide me over but oh how i miss don draper. That soup is my favorite. It is so cozy and comforting. I need that in my life. Well it’s. official, I am the shortest in my family, unless you count the dog standing on her hind legs and then I”m pretty sure she is a smidge shorter. Welcome to the club of short moms! I love how he looks like he is trying to stand up as straight as possible. I’m so glad you have a Monday recovery day after CW. My Monday after CW in November looks like this: Wake up at 5:30AM, get myself and two kids out the door to daycare and school, teach all day, and have parent-teacher conferences all night. 🙁 I’ll survive. The weekend will be so relaxing I’ll build up all kinds of energy, right?! I also waited to watch Parenthood and was soooo sad that it wasn’t on! I had been stuck inside for TWO days because of Sandy (no major damage, thank goodness) but had major cabin fever and was waiting all day to watch Parenthood and almost cried when I realized it wasn’t on. I agree! Cereal and toast for dinner every night! (Just kidding….kind of) Be thankful that you don’t have a full-time job outside the home, as well! Focus on the positives….crawling back into bed, shopping during the day, enjoying a leisurely cup of copy, starting dinner before 6:00 pm….lots to be thankful for here 🙂 You sure have running determination. It really would be strange too, to hit that point where your kids are taller than you! Love all the ‘color of life’ you bring to your blog here. If I had seen that it wasn’t going to be on …I would have let you know. I have felt the exact same way as you do about the lists. Even if we ever actually finish a list another one or two has already began …. I am so glad to hear I am not the only one who was taken aback by the lack of Parenthood. I purposely waited to go to the gym so I would watch it while on the treadmill and was so bummed when I realized it was preempted by coverage of the storm. You are so lucky to have friends to run with, I miss my running partner so much. Hopefully I will find another one when we move again. My motto ever since having my third child has been, “All I do is feed my family.” I love this, Meg! 🙂 I love the line, “Can’t we all just eat cereal? Why do people frown upon that?” That actually made me laugh out loud. 😉 I found myself thinking the other day, “Do they have to eat EVERY day?” Ha… And…to answer your question…I do feel like sometimes all I do is buy the food, make the food, and clean up the food…and I only have 2 kiddos. I can’t imagine with 5. A Tuesday without Parenthood is always a little sad. I LOVE the Bravermans. Thanks for the smile today…as usual. I have just started running and am motivated by you lots. Love it! I need to watch Mad Men. Shop. Cook. Clean. Repeat. I’m gonna’ put it on my kitchen wall! Would that be so horrible? I guess I should go with {Eat, Drink, Laugh, Love} but inside I’m thinking shop, cook, clean, repeat, shop, cook, clean, repeat… My favorite quote from the Office this week was when Erin said “Buts are for pooping.” I laughed out loud. We’ll make our traditional Goulash tonight though. Usually Parenthood will say if there is going to be a break in programming, but not this time. How do you edit your photos? i upload my photos into LightRoom and i use their settings to edit. 5. what settings do you use on your camera? i almost always shoot in AV mode. i shoot at an ISO of 200 and at 2.8 or 3.5. does that help? i have never felt great at explaining cameras or putting it into words but both of those blogs do it well! 6. Will you come to Washington? yes. :) also i was worried it was going to be raining for my run this morning and your quote went through my head Leann "once you're wet, you're wet" and had decided i was going anyway. thankfully… it stopped before i ran. 7. where are the glasses from in the post with the happy things to look at? You handed me your camera and asked me if I “back focused” and I froze… then I read this-I too shoot in AV (and do the “focus and shift” (that made me think of “bend and snap” from legally blonde. Ha!)… though I also have the 50mm f1.8 (it’s $100) for those inside shots you speak of! 🙂 I have a Tamron lenses when the reviews had little difference (yet hundreds of dollars less) so that is how I have more than one. (28-75 f2.8, 17-50 f2.8, and 70-300 (but that came with the camera-and isn’t a fixed f). I think I used the 50mm and dialed the AV for my first couple years of my rebel, and even a lot at first with my 50D a couple years back (Karen Russel influenced-but I am still in LOVE with this lens!!) I hope you realize that being a good mom means we get overwhelmed and we get frustrated and we feel like we’re not enough, yada, yada. A good mom does feel like that…alot because you care and you want so desperately to raise kids that love the Lord, and love you and love their family. You want them to succeed in the world and in their life. Check all of that out…that’s alot that we have to do and think about. I’ve said many times that I really don’t know how I would get through raising kids if I didn’t have God to lean on. If I didn’t have prayer and His word I would have to be heavily medicated to do this job. It’s a heavy load to do by yourself. Glad you’re feeling better today. it got cold here yesterday….now it's fall. i made THIS SOUP last night….yummmm. and i made THIS DESSERT for mr. duerksen this week. ha! we are going to a home high school football game tonight to see the little girls do a cheer routine…very cute. this weather just makes me want to curl up and take a nap. what are YOU doing this weekend? Going to the Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair!! Which High school football game did you go to? Was it Hutchinson vs Rockhurst?? We are in Kansas City and my son played on the Rockhurst team. Great game (for Rockhurst)!! Your Saturday sounds similar to ours. We had a football tournament this morning, then onto a charity fun run. My husband has taken the 4 boys for a round of golf now and I am just getting warmed up on the couch with my youngest. It is very cold here in Ireland too, but I love this time of year. I live in Portland, OR and we are still in the 90s over here, which is very unusual. Anyway, my husband and I are going to tackle cleaning out the garage this weekend. Not a fun project, but something that desperately needs doing. Have a great weekend! ick!ick!ick to fall. more summer for me please. its our annual block party, turned ice cream social with the neighborhood. come over, guests are always welcome. 2 soccer games, watching some friends in Grease, one scout campout for the older boys and youth group for the older boys, hopefully a movie for the younger ones..the calm before the storm, “easy” weekend for once…and maybe a stop by olive garden for some soup! You remind me that our dog really needs a bath. And I need to make soup. Now I’m tired just thinking about doing those two things. 🙂 Love seeing Waffle in his collar 🙂 just posted your post link on my fb page. I didn’t forget about your armband- someone bought the one I had laid out to send. I will get you one soon. Waffles need a new collar? It’s halloween time ya know! This weekend the plan is to clean the craft room (insert horror movie music here)and drive up to the cottage for the day to see the progress on some construction we’re having done. It’s been cool here too, it was zero degrees when I woke up this morning! Made for a rather brisk wait at the school bus stop, haha. Sounds like you’ve got quite the weekend ahead, here’s hoping you have a few moments to relax and breathe! Happy Friday! Waffle always looks like such fun! 🙂 Oh how I miss all those games!! I don’t miss all the running that came with them.. Ha! almost the same as you…high school football game tonight. Go BA Tigers!! Then I am meeting up with some friends to watch a band at a bar. Tomorrow I have a 6th grade football game. Then laundry and more laundry, and cleaning, and cooking/preparing meals for the week. Exhausting! But I wouldn’t want it any other way. How funny–we had the very same exact soup for dinner last night. I fixed ours in the crockpot and it was ready when I got home. I must have gotten this recipe from you originally in another post. So good!

I love the glasses!!! What brand are they? What a quaint spot for a weekend, although I think all those animals looking at me might freak me out a little! and you look so cute in your glasses! 🙂 The stuffed mountain lion on the mantel 🙁 He would be better alive, on a mountain top. That house would creep me out. But glad you are liking being back. I was at school meeting new 1st graders for the first time. Your weekend sounds fabulous, but those taxidermied animals would put a major cramp in my mojo. I would be thinking about how they should still be alive prancing through the forest. Our daughter Georgia, is one of two known cases in the world with a rare chromosome deletion. She has physical and intellectual disabilities. We held a movie night fundraiser last night to assist with the $30 000 her aide support/medications/medical expenses cost us every year. It was very humbling to see 80 people turn out to support our family and give generously. I think we raised nearly $3000 which will be enough to finish off our fundraising for this year. Hooray! God is GOOD. Now to start on next years fundraising 🙁 Have fun! On this Friday afternoon – we have decided to chillax…hubby’s in the recliner, Three Stooges on TV, 7-year-old daughter next to me working on school assignment, 5-year-old daughter swinging outside, dog asleep on the floor. I think we’re ordering Chinese for dinner. Oh! That sounds so good! I maybe, might empty the dishwasher tonight, but that’s about it. oh meg, and your sweet sleepy face! glad you’re having a good weekend full of inspiration. resting on the couch, kid free! You are in my worst nightmare. My only major fear in life is taxidermy. Real animals don’t bother me, but I would be freaking out in that house. yikes. How can you sleep with all them stuffed animals! Gross! Getting ready to go pick by babies up from daycare and start the weekend!!! Enjoy your time with your friends!! I’m rereading Shades of Blue by Karen Kingsbury. I would love to be walking on an ocean beach in North Carolina listening to the music of the waves. Somebody likes stuffed animals. 🙂 wow, after reading about foster parents and zoo workers and heart helpers….people can be awesome 🙂 Well I am peeling potatoes and baking bread and it makes me feel that all is well with my soul. I see the conference is in Breckenridge, CO. Just can’t stay away can you? 😀 Well, even after a long night and being tired, you still look great! First,I love the glasses. I spent the morning in Cardiac Rehab helping patients recovering from heart surgery exercise. It makes me so happy. This afternoon will be cleaning and going to the dollar tree for an impromptu craft with my beautiful girls. I am eating a cupcake. And staring out my window at a yard of cheetahs because I work at a zoo and it’s AWESOME! Hi Meg! I love that you’re going after what inspires you and truly following your bliss. I have been reading your blog for years and have only commented a handful of times, but I have watched you grow and your business grow and it’s amazing. You always have such a positive outlook on life and such a positive and joyful spirit! I just wanted to say, thanks for your blog! hilarious! especially the risque lady in her undies as a result of the he-man aroma of aftershave! Love the shoes on the girl in the skin bracer ad…they would be fashionable now! My mom gave me a typewriter for Christmas when I was about ten and I didn’t like it at all. We can laugh about it now how she thought I would love it and instead I thought it meant hours chained to a desk and typing lessons. 🙂 So funny. She has a little typewriter in the grandchildren’s room at her house now that the little boys love to peck away at! Oh, I love old advertisements! They make me so happy! There is this great antique store in Prescott that has piles of old magazines. So fun. So, I’m not the first to suggest this…and am sure you already thought of something amazing to do with them…but, frame them…decoupage them onto canvas…display them! In your NEW house! Love these!! I found an article the other day while cutting out some for an old journal and it was titled “Be a Whistled at Mom”. It was from 1952! Cracked me up!!! Is Lauren starting college this next school year? I may just be turning 30, but I do have memories of writing school reports on a typewriter. I sooo hated when the erase tape was finished and I had to resort to using white out! Perfect for framing and displaying in the craft house! LOVE the typewriter ad! I subscribe to Reminisce Magazine because I love all the vintage! And I am only 34! Love the ads! Love it! Makes me want to watch Mad Men! so cool! i wonder if don draper designed any of those 🙂 Wow! Those are priceless! It’s amazing how much things have changed. Your hotpoint fridge ad says its the one to buy for ’46. Awesome find. These should be framed. I love these ads. I have seen others that were put in men’s magazines that, although funny, are totally wrong. Like the one that says, “Is it always illegal to kill a woman?” or “It is good to have a woman around the house.” and the man is stepping on a woman’s head. These remind me of some of the sexists ads now-a-days. You would love Amy Barickman’s Book called Vintage Notions. She is a Kansan also and has Indygo Junction Pattern company. Really cool lady. Anyway, her book has all kinds of old gems from books and maybe magazines. Her blog does also. amybarickman.com I found a lot of old ads and appliance manuals at my grandma’s house. We framed the kitchen/food related ones and have them hanging in our kitchen. Love it! My dad wore green Mennen Skin Bracer when he and my mom would go out! The smell takes me back to being a very little girl ….of course that was way after that ad would have been circulating tho, giggle! These were fun! These are begging for frames… except the one of the guy in his underwear. The “Reis Scandals” is OUR last name!! That cracks me up. Wish I knew where to find this issue…i’d frame that puppy!! Ha ha! We have old British cars (50’s and 60’s) and my husband loves when I find the old ads and frame them for his office. It’s fantastic! I courted an angel and married a cook ha ha I LOVE IT! I love these ads! Old ads are awesome. |
