funny

annie had birthday money to spend that came inside birthday cards.
i let her chose what she wanted with very little coaching from me.

she chose 2 barbies, 2 books, a webkinz and a baby alive (small version).
it was a LOT but it was her money and no different than receiving that many gifts in packages.

20 minutes later in the grocery section of walmart annie said
"well mom…i think i'm gonna put baby alive back.  i think when she pees her diaper i would kind of like fwreak out or some'fing…so i don't want to get it."

***************************************************************************************************************
annie grabbed a package of weight watchers bronnies and shouts
"MOM…YOU NEED TO GET THIS TO CELEB'WATE  YO' anniversa-wee!!

 *************************************************************************************************************

i told annie and her friend to "sit on their bottoms in their carseats"
annie replied "we don't have bottoms.  he has a Weenus and i have a Bun."

oh my.

*************************************************************************************************************

i was giving a lecture in the car on the way to school (that's not the funny part)
i said to the 4 non-teenagers "you can save yourself a lot of grief if you realize now that i know what you are going to do before you do it.  especially when you try to be sneaky…i am really good at the sneaky stuff!"
annie didn't miss a beat and shouts out "AND you're really good at telling jokes!"

*************************************************************************************************************

talby asks "how much does a car cost mom?"  (thinking for when she gets a car)
i answered "ummm….$10,000."
annie shouts "OH YEAH!  when i g'woe up i am going to be famous!  and i'm gonna get that ten fousand dollaws and i am gonna have a fashion limo cause it's ten fousand.  AND i will give a dollaw to everybody who listens to me sing too.
"

*************************************************************************************************************

sean came home from his friends and said "we had so much fun and we watched a really funny movie "Christmas with the SKANKS!"

i laughed so hard.

************************************************************************************************************

at dinner sean said "ALL white people like coffee….except if they are allergic."

************************************************************************************************************

annie told me while driving in the car
 "Mommy…im SO ing-cited for christmas!
i'm going to make a christmas card for JESUS.
but i am not going to put any money in it…cause i don't have any money…or wait!
my bank account?!  i CAN send him money!
ALL MY MONEY!!!"

*************************************************************************************************************

Lauren - Love that you have this blog to capture these moments… I was laughing hysterically… In the car the other day, my 3 y.o. daughter pointed to and yelled at the auto repair shop we were passing, “You are on the NAUGHTY NAUGHTY list cause you don’t have Cwistmas decowations and Santa won’t bwing you pwesents…” (the salon next to it was decorated).
And is it weird to tell you that I have a blog crush on you and now on Ashley as well!???!

4. Mom I will take out the trash.

i said "oh…you want to wear those?"

she answered "YEAH!  they are a little tight but i sure do love the sound!!!"

and jumped up and down, big loud jumps on the hard wood floors.

they do make a great loud click clack sound.

she is so good at being four years old.

Varun - Nice collection of pics.. and beautifully portrayed ..
The world as i see through my lens.

Is she named “Anne” and you call her “Annie?” I ask because my baby (third child) is Anna and she’s still so young (one), I don’t know yet if she’ll turn into an “Annie…” I LOVE the name. And I continue to love your family and house in pictures.

My daughter usually pics either silver glitter shoes or white patent ones. And she will purposely take apart 2 different pairs of matched socks and put on one of each color/pattern. She isn’t even 3 yet. It makes me happy to know I might still have these moments with her for another year!!!

Gina - Oh my goodness, that’s adorable.

Lori - That little Annie is the cutest!!I love reading about her and especially love the pictures. Keem ’em coming!

She’s now 24! Have fun when they are little. Time flies by so fast!

Sandy - I LOVE that little Annie! Thanks again for sharing your adorable kids, dog, husband and life with us!

These were the things I wrote down in a journal and whenever I needed it,
I took it out and got myself a healthy outlook on the world.

Holly - She’s too cute!

Lanny Stanard - Okay now thats cute! that’s our Annie 😀
Lanny…

Penny - Oh, what a way to greet the day! She is VERY good at being four. It is my very favorite age. I remember so many sweet, funny things my three girls did at four.
You are a great mom! Enjoy these days. And enjoy that wonderful wonderful dog, Waffle. Our little Sophie (also a Goldendoodle) is such a clown. We love her!
You will be so happy you are capturing these days, give her a big hug!

adrienneK - LOVE it!! i believe I called any shoes that made a neat sound “clicky claks” as a child…I think I was 4 too!

Vicki - Oh how that made me chuckle!! I LOVE it!!! 🙂

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - I was showing my mom your master bath remodel pictures this morning. She’s about to do hers, and looking for ideas re-making pieces of furniture into vanities. Of course, she loved your bathroom, no surprise!
When I was re-reading it, you mentioned also doing a pink bathroom. I’ve searched for pictures, but couldn’t find any?!?! Have you shown it? Or am I just looking in all the wrong places?
Have a happy Saturday! We’re headed to Sonic for happy hour… now that Annie’s pics have me ‘needing’ one! 🙂

Lori - She truly does!

jody - lucky girl!!

patricia - gives new meaning to sonic spaghetti.
pve

se7en - Oh what a sweet little thing! And the perfect day: food and fun! Love it!!!

erika @ urban grace - annie can we trade lives? (all except the topless spaghetti eating)
you’ve got it made!
now i’m craving sonic!!!!

Sarah - The spaghetti part looks good…not sure topless would be too flattering at this point in my life!
Don’t you just love when you have ONE at home to spoil…less micro management and more quiet times to enjoy.

kat - Sometimes we have topless spaghetti here too, the girls, not me, although my husband would probably make it home from work a lot sooner if I joined in. Mmm, cherry slush from Sonic, that IS the life! 🙂

Dina - ahhh, I love eating spaghetti topless too!! LOL
great pictures!

Nicole Ross - I blogged about your fantastic blog on my own.

Shann - Can I come play with you guys? It always looks like so much fun! 🙂

Lindy - The spaghetti picture really made me smile. I always made Craig and Abby take their shirts off (when they were little) to eat spaghetti. We still laugh about it today whenever someone has spaghetti. I’m sure they will carry on that practice with their little ones! Here’s to the good life!

valerie - I’m pretty jealous of that cherry slush. Those are my favorite. 🙂

Anna Marie - How do you get your hair to do that? Is your hair naturally wavy? Or is there a product or trick? It looks like it would be easy to take care of AND it is super cute 😉

five kids in four schools this year.

crazy.

they were all nervous this morning but didn't want to admit it.

they have a rotating schedule for who gets to sit in the middle seat in the car.

this year we are instituting a rotating schedule for who gets to pick the music each morning.

oldest to youngest…monday through friday.

talby chose U2 this morning.

now…i am off to enjoy my big day.

emily - aw i loved taking first day of school pictures. & oh my lanta, lauren is one gorgeous girl

Ashley - Meg,
we started school here too and as far as the big kids go, I was really happy to have a quiet house too. My littlest one started Kindergarten and I have been so sad and missing her like crazy! Theres something about having the last one out of the house.
We drove through Newton last Sunday and I had no idea that we were driving that route… I was so sad I hadn’t emailed and tried to set up a lunch with you! Maybe next time. You are so right about Kansas, I loved the sunflowers!
I’ll be excited to see what projects you do now that the kids are back in school.
Thanks for your wonderful stories…
Ashley

jennifer - Congratulations and enjoy your first week back!
I’ve got one week to go…

Rach - YAY for quiet houses. Just you and Annie again eh? Must be bliss after such a busy summer. Enjoy!

Wendy - Enjoy your day! Mine don’t start for another week or so and I’m ready to pull out my hair. New shoes… ugh. Don’t get me started. My eldest (son) going into his senior year is 6’6″ and wears a size 14. Poor guy, it’s so hard to find shoes for him. Your kids are all so beautiful. Great pics!

pam - adorable kiddos on their first day of school, peace and quiet for mom…ahhhhhh. can’t wait until it’s our turn! xo

erin - woo-hoo!!! it’s so liberating!!! i am right there with ya!

traci - well they sure are all smiles. looks like they are excited about school starting. hope they had a good day. lauren is just beautiful!!!! i love her top.

Kathy - Whoo Hoo!! Happy days!! Mine starts on Wednesday!!

misty - love talbys laces. i have the same shoes as lauren in white- they were at aldo for 60 something… target had them in several colors for maybe 15… everyone says, oh did u get those shoes at aldo? lol what a great idea about rotating the seats and music. my best friend has 4 kids (15,10,8, & 5) I will have to tell her about that GREAT idea! Wish I would have known about the backyardigans marathon. we gave up the dvr so we wont watch so much tv and now my daughter always misses it =( happy 1st day of freedom!

elizabeth - Your family is so beautiful. So much joy on their faces. Have a wonderful day — you deserve it!

se7en - Look how cute they all look – all dressed up and ready for school! A far cry from their fabulous summer holiday and yet they all look just as happy!!! I love those laces and will not be showing my kids them AT ALL!!!

Laura Phelps - so.did you get that nap???????
I have been dreading the start of school…
the lunches…
homework…
clean uniforms, that are NEVER clean…
but TODAY…
today was non stop
and I caught myself thinking about
school
and the QUIET
and..
tha NAP??
do ya think? really? can we nap???
If not, I will settle for a latte with Luke…just me and Luke..
that sounds good, too!
beautiful photos of a stunning group of kids!

Janine - Wow, school starts early for you guys. We don’t start till Sept 8. thankfully! Great pics – your kids are gorgeous.

Mindy Harris - your kids are beautiful. i kinda wanna plant a big one on sean’s cheek! 😉

Leah - I want lauren’s shoes!

Kelli - Have you seen the Staples commercial with the dad bouncing for joy at Staples with “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” playing in the background? As a teacher I can say I feel more like the sad pouting kids- why does summer end sooooo quickly! 🙂 Here is the commercial if you haven’t seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPIIMbG9R4w
It actually is pretty funny!

kristin - in so many ways i wish micah wouldn’t admit his nervousness…it’s heartbreaking when he does!
and you KNOW i love talby’s shoes.
and i love thinking of lauren in jerry’s class. he’ll be nice. : )

Hannah - Fantastic photos as always!

Jocelyn Stott - Ah – the obligatory first day of school pictures – I totally remember my Mom doing that. It seems like August is a really early time to start school! Maybe it is a Kansas thing? Kids here in Oregon start after labor day. Interesting…

Mary - You’re kids are georgous!
And awesome style (and taste in music)
I’m almost looking foreward to at least the oldest starting school

Renee - Wow. I am so jealous! The kids look amazing — so big. I can’t wait until all of mine are school-bound. I just know I’m gonna feel brand new. LOL Cheers! You deserve it. xoxo

Dana M. - Kids went back today too. No tears here!! LOVED having the house to myself all afternoon, took a nap and left all chores undone. Don’t think that will work all year…..

Lorilee - The kids are so cute! I had to go back to school today for teacher inservice! Our students don’t return until Aug. 24! I wasn’t ready, but now that I’ve been there, I guess I feel more ready!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Lisa - Wow, I can’t believe so many of you are starting school already!?! My kids don’t go back until September 3rd!

Starnes Fam - Carter started today, too. I still have 2 little ones at home, but it does seem to help with the chaos. 3rd grade for us……a big step!
Great, fun pictures for their first date. Kudos.

Ruth - Happy quiet day!! Lauren looks way cooler than I ever do! What a gorgeous bunch – are you sure you won’t have any more…?! The world needs good genes!

Shannon - I needed to finish my comment but had to take Morgan to cheer practice. Get this — Morgan’s (natzi) principal stands in the middle of the hallway with a ruler and if they have a shirt top that is less than 3 inches across on the shoulder they have to wear a shirt over or the parent is called to bring a different shirt. AND the worst of it is she’s a middle school cheerleader and they can’t wear their uniforms to school on game day — too short!! What’s this world coming too!!

Kyleigh - Awww, the kids look beautiful, and funky shoes!!
My kids don’t go back until 7th September….eeeeeek! But then over here (UK) they didn’t break up until 18th July or something.
I’m off to the Edinburgh Festival now… keep up the amazing photography Meg, its inspiring as ever…

Gretchen - Congratulations! I hope you did the Risky Business dance around the house in your underwear!

princesslasertron - lauren looks super cool…sweet shoes!
and talby looks exactly like you
love the shoelaces
handsome boys
yup!

Maria - Everyone looks ready! We had 3 of ours start last Friday, and the ‘baby’ starts preK this coming Monday (then, I will truly be doing the ‘happy’ dance).
4 kids 4 schools…summer time is so Over.

Beth - Your hubs better start cleaning his shotgun to keep the boys away… Lauren is beautiful. My hubby dreads the day our daughters become young women. He has already carved a “no dating” policy in stone. Boys will only be allowed visit with our daughters at our home… and watch him clean his shotgun and whatnot. 😉

Angela - That is so awesome!! Those days are years ahead of me but I am already looking forward to them!
Oh, and do you HAVE to remind me of your tempting rainbow cake in every post? (shoelaces–LOL!)

Georgia - Lauren is absolutely stunning!!! im so Jelous! 🙂
I love her top its so bright and cheery! she looks super cool, the sort of person i would have loved to have been friends with at school. I hope all your kids had a fab 1st day back, most kids here in the UK, dont do back until around 5th September … seems like yours are going back really early!
Ohhhh i wish i could go back to school….. lol

PaiselyJade - Yay for you – your family it beautiful… 5 kids – wow… and I thought 4 was heaps!

Christy - Ours started Monday & so far so good! Great pictures! Lauren looks so pretty, her top is cute! Talby looks more tween now than “kid”, funny how much kids can change in such a short time. Enjoy your day!

rachel - I hope it was a great first day 🙂
Your gang are getting so big, they look rather sleepy but charming with it 😀

danyele - wow…i have 3 in 3 schools…and one more to go. i love talby’s new shoes!!!

Whitni - Oh my! Lauren has blossomed over the summer! She’s so beautiful, goodness that dark skin and shiny curly hair, I’m so jealous! I hope you have a great day alone and I hope your kids have a good first day back to school.

Shannon - The kids look great and ready for school!! They have grown up a lot since we were there last Christmas. But Seriously … can Lauren wear that top to school??? That would be OUTLAWED here for sure!!

Donje - You are so lucky! Your kids have grown so much since we’ve seen them. My kids start on the 19th. Kristina is going to be in first grade so this is my first year with everyone in school all day! Woo hoo!

sassy girl - mine start next tuesday, my lil’ man will be in kindergarten & I will be all alone {sniff}

cori barney - that Talby sure has good taste in music! (and shoes!)

kat - You are sooooooooooo LUCKY!!! My girls don’t go back until after labor day! (Still in preschool, but I am COUNTING the days!) Enjoy your freedom and your peace and quiet! 🙂

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - Hooray for you! Seeing Lauren in her cute new clothes makes me nostalgic for teenagehood again.

Marla - You are so LUCKY!!! Mine don’t go back until the 24th!

Staci - Mine start next Tuesday!!! I was reading around on FB this morning….about all the tears that were shed….thinking WHAT is wrong with me????? Why don’t I cry??? Thanks for making me feel okay about not crying =) (I do hope you get that nap!!!!!!)

Anna Marie - It seems like Lauren has really blossomed over the summer. Hopefully on the “maturity spectrum” as well 😉 I bet you are relieved! They all look great!

Julia - It’s Tuesday for us. Pretty soon I’m going to have to have a schedule for the front seat. I was completely stressing about 3 schools for 3 kids so now I know some do have it worse than me!
Oh, I made a rainbow cake for my Last Party of the Summer.

Heidi Jo the Artist - We are going to have to take a vacation to Kansas one of these days, it looks like so much fun stuff to do and see down there! Great photos as usual! I take photos of people I don’t know too…usually if I think I can do it without them noticing. 🙂

Dana M. - Allie LOVES the lego creations! Still think that she and Sean should get together and build.

Christina - Oh my goodness, you’re husband’s comment is hilarious!

Craig - That’s alright, honey. I might even marry Brett Favre.

Erin - Ah, Brett Favre…my favorite EVER! Before the “retiring” of course as well. My sister and I have matching jerseys that I will still wear on Packer game days 🙂

purejoy - if i wasn’t married, i’d totally go for brett favre. the brett favre before the retirings. the number four with the green and gold shirt.

Anna Marie - Uh oh, Craig…competition. 😉

I think she will be quite a stylish young lady with her unicorn bike in Japan.

Tara - Adorable!! 🙂

can i know what kind of lens do you use to take these photos? they are very pretty and well positioned. i love reading blog with those attached photos you have taken.
mel

Wendy - Oh great. Now I want a house made out of chocolate, too…

Aubrey - She’s so funny. And cute. How do you remember all the stuff she says? When my kids say things, I can’t remember them 5 minutes later, I just remember they said something funny. Even when I try to write it down right away, it seems like I’m not remembering correctly. It’s like a curse. My poor children will have nothing to looks back on. 🙂

adrienneK - omg SO cute!!!

elizabeth - the camera (at least yours) is that child’s FRIEND. Those are fantastic shots — and her comments are priceless. My own son wants to be a mailman because he can wear shorts (we live in California), drive a really cool truck and he’s a good sorter.

Dana M. - Love the bit about a BIG diamond!! Smart girl! Need to get Annie and Kate together. It would be a hoot!

Amber - Annie is too precious for words! Love these photos…she is so darn cute.

Carrie - To be four again, life was so easy then. My dad still tells everyone that I asked for a Century 21 sign for my birthday when I was little. That was when they hung on those thick yellow posts.
I am totally hanging out with Annie if we can eat the chocolate walls in her house.

AshleyR - Seriously SOOO funny!!!
I love that age! Don’t you wish they were four forever?!?!?

purejoy - ummmm yes. eyecandy for sure.

oh annie.

Dandilions2

she burst into my bedroom this morning dressed in yellow from head to toe.
she shouts "MOM! wake up!  it's yo' big day! yo' gonna plant yo' gaw-den!"

later while i was trying to do some exercise
(with a dog in my face and little annie laying on top of me….)
she grabs her leg and winces.
she says so seriously "i hurt my uncle."

we walked to the kids' school with waffle.
he feels free to use every yard as his toilet.
annie very honestly asks me, "why don't dogs have to wipe?"

i was digging in the garden (because it was my big day)
and when i would find worms (she pronounces it like waums
i would call to annie and she'd come get them from me.
i could hear her talking to them "worm….meet worm.  worm…meet worm"
then shouted  "MOM! they like each other!  my worms are friends!"
and then she had four worms.
and she said "worm…meet worm, worm, worm."
four times in a row.

i wanted to just scoop her up and keep her four years old forever.
Dandilions
instead….she started bawling on the trampoline at 8:10
i took her to bed and i fell asleep in their bed while talby read the bedtime book.

kitchendoor - Four is so great 🙂

kasey - she’s a doll.
and looks like you are having fun with Picnik.
xo

Lisa - IF ONLY 4…
HUGS FROM MAINE

jen R Sanctuary arts at home - It’s an awesome age…

pam - oh my. no doubt about it. she’s adorable.
what was your answer to “why don’t dogs have to wipe?”

Kelly - Just this very morning I was in line at Starbucks with my middle boy when a nice man in front of us asked him how old he was. When he answered that he was four, the man said he also has a 4-year old and we had a great little conversation about how fun 4 is. 🙂

Christina - Good for you, for writing these things down! The pictures=keeping the four-year-old forever, at least in a small way. My oldest daughter and I are constantly telling my youngest (almost 2) to stop growing! She already doesn’t listen, though…

Ashley Ann - The polaroid look is so fun…we have some like that blown up as 12x12s hanging in the living room. I love the 70ish feel you did to them…great processing!

meaghan easterhaus - this is one of my favortie posts you’ve ever written!

anne - what special moments spent together in the garden.
“worm meet worm” … adorable.

Lori Danelle - I can’t wait until my girls start spouting out crazy little kid logic. We’ve already started filling a large glass container with funny things Charlie says, but right now they’re more funny within the context, not funny on their own. . .I’m looking forward to funny on their own! Until then, we’re just celebrating complete sentences!!
http://loridanelle.blogspot.com

gina - Isn’t four the best?!! I have and LOVE the book The memoirs of a four year old by Jamie Lee Curtis.

jerusalem - 4 is precious. absolutely. i have one of those myself and i could just eat him up!

Elisa - Cole speaks that language. It’s a crack-up. I just love the way he pronounces his wauds, I mean words. Sweet little kiddos!

Laura - something about little girls named Annie….
red shoes
worms
fists of flowers
very familiar!
our annies really are adorable. arent they?

maribeth - oh, how sweet! i also love 4 because of the innocence and use of language. i love how they misuse words, mispronounce words, make up their own words, and use big words. i have a 3 and 4 year old currently and i try to document all of these little pieces of joy before they are gone. annie is precious! just precious!

Patti - isn’t 4 just the greatest age?! i love the things that they think of and how they view the world. just the other day, my 4 year old anya said to me, “mommy, can i extersize [exercise] with you? i need to work on my muscle.” (as if she only has one.) have a great week!

Starnes Fam - Life is good. I love when we realize that in these moments.

Heather - I read your blog everyday. I LOVE it! This post is so fun. How did you do that to the photos? I think it is so cool. I have a 5 year old and would love to add that to some of his photos.

Kathy - OMG so is so cute!! But they grow up to be eye rolling, back talking, always online never, never picking up her clothes 15 year olds!! Sorry to burst your bubble!! Ah! but she is so cute really!

Cate O'Malley - Too cute! My six-year-old still mixes up the letters when he says animal… he says it as aMiNal. I smile every time I hear it.

sara's art house - LOVE the pictures. Your blog is always a bright spot in my day! You are one of my top ten blogs 🙂

Keri - What a shame they have to grow up! That is pure sweetness.

a thorn among roses - love the shoes…i heart red shoes…and dandelions too!

Joy Cronauer...Joy at Home - now how did you do that with the photos???? so cute!

adrienneK - ok thats just TOO cute!!!

Jess - oh meg, i am wishing that i would have written down all the cute things my little ones would say. they grow up so fast. i’m off to take a stroll down memory lane…thanks for sharing that sweetness.

The Tulip Lady - And that is why the world goes round…for all the Annies of the world…for their mommy’s and daddy’s….if only we could all keep a little of our “four year old” self forever the world would be a happier place. Thanks for sharing. Love to you and yours…

Joy C. Tilton - Oh this is priceless! Fabulous four, never to be again so enjoy!
joy c. at grannymountain

mom - She is something else! Very heaut-wauming!

Leigh Ann - Precious four year old love!
Enjoy!

erica - she is way too cute! and sweet! what purity and innocence is in our young children. thank you for sharing 🙂

Traci - so cute. love how little ones talk. it’s kind of sad when they master it and their cute little language is no more. love the way you did the photos. picnik?

pve - oh goodness, out of the mouths and bottoms of babes.
my son said (when he was your gals’ wee age)
“Mom, I just burped from my bottom” and if you knew him, some things do not change.
We have a good laugh each day! 🙂

Shana - Yes. The things she has been saying lately completely crack us up. I think big B would put her in his pocket if he could. His little “annie” is so big now. 🙁

Michelle - My baby girl is 4 too. But only for another week and a half. I’ll miss 4.
I love the photos. That one of her feet in the dandelions is stunning. The colors!!

Diane at Kidoozy - Gotta love planting a garden with ‘help’. I have 3 kids and two dogs, and once in a while the kids get a chicken out to help scratch around in the soil.
We’ll be doing that today. Of course I won’t get adorable pictures like you did.
Thanks for sharing.

sandy toe - How cute!
sandy toe

brooke - “i hurt my uncle” best line ever.ever. how sweet!! and yes i know what you mean about wanting to bottle them up right where they are…i am seriously going through this myself with my oldest…i am not ready for her to be seven and a second grader…i didn’t think motherhood would be so full of happy heartbreaks!

Sandy - She’s such a doll! Love the pictures!!

Trish - I have a five year old that can’t say his “r” sound either, and I think it’s so sweet to listen to him talk……we’ve already spent so much money on speech therapy just to get him to this point and now I’d like him to stay this way forever!
Why do they have to grow up?
