Laura Phelps - I want to be your neighbor! Our kids would have so much fun together!
But….we did get a home today…
and it is not next to you…
oh well….
but Jack is happy, because there is a perfect spot for a basketball net.
One, that hopefully, the ball can fit through!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I LOVE that he is swining while he is on his skateboard, stick thingy!

Jennifer - Funny! And I love all of your cheerful colorful photos. Did you know we had snow today in Colorado?

Janie Fox - Ha ha ha, funny post! Your kids are cute. Mine are all grown , 3 girls 27,25,23. I remember the chaos like it was yesterday…wait it was -I babysit 3 grandkids, 4yrs, 2yrs and 8 mos.!! I always love your posts and get a kick out of your pictures!

Julie - Too funny! Your kids are adorable!

renae - i read the heading 3 times before i realized it said “net” and not “hat”. was wondering what basketball had to do with hats.

Musings Of A Gem - Heehee…very good. How do u get it back out of the net?
Gemma X http://musings-of-a-gem.blogspot.com/

the inadvertent farmer - Lol…ours finally rotted and fell off! At least he was resourceful enough to get it down and work out some aggression at the same time…Kim

Karina - Ha! I’d just take the net part off.
Is that a house for sale beside yours? I’m moving in.

Nancy M - LOL, nice post, very cute

Tanya - Love it!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - The coordination to stand on a skate board and swing a bat…I’d be flat on my back. Oh to be young again.

my man sean

my boys usually don't hang around where i am…which is where my camera is…which is why annie
is usually in so many pictures…she's right beside me all the time.

but i got sean this week.
caught on film…or cf card? whatever.

his best friend let him borrow his RipStik.
i had no idea what it was until he brought it home.
it's a skateboard…with only two wheels.
It's all about balance.

it took him about 2 (very frustrated) hours to really get it…

and he hasn't quit since.
IMG_7404
IMG_7483     IMG_7419
could you do this?

i know that i couldn't.
none of my other kids can do it.

i think he looooooves that part.

it's something only he can do.
IMG_7439
IMG_7444
IMG_7448
then…he even let me take some pictures of just him.

IMG_7477
the only other person with green eyes in our family besides me.  :)

IMG_7479
he does this with his arm all the time…glad i caught it.

Sean2

oh man…you have got to love the braces.

sean is growing so fast.
his shoes are 9.5. a size and half bigger than me!
he is VERY into reading now…a different chapter book everyday.
i know that he turns on his lamp & reads after we say to go to bed but how do you get mad about that?
he also loves club penguin.com.

i love that boy.
i may not always understand him…but i try my best.
i am his biggest cheerleader.
i want him to succeed so badly.

i love that boy.

did i mention that already?

Ed Hochhalter - Wow, what a fine lad you’ve raised. He looks so cute, even with braces. I think he’ll grow up to be a very handsome young man. What a lucky kid.

kristin - oh, i love this kid. i’m glad he has you.

Rachel / cREaTe - that brought tears to my eyes. ๐Ÿ™‚ so awesome at that age to have a moment like that with your son & totally see and celebrate his uniqueness & individuality. and boyness. ๐Ÿ™‚ those one on one moments are precious & priceless – you know they ADORE them, too.

Kelly - he is adorable! makes me hope this baby is a boy . . . then I’ll switch back to hoping it’s a girl when i see something equally wonderful girly . . . who knows!
Pam said he likes chocolate and cherry in his sonic dp. you tell him i like chocolate and cherry in my sonic coke. ๐Ÿ™‚
Kelly

adrienne - boys ARE soooo fun! i feel so blessed to have one… it is fun to watch them change and grow. i just pray for patience!!!

Alisa Hammond-Muir - What a handsome lad. And I so could NOT do that… lol

Melissa - love the first portrait of him, cute!

Lori - Love the pictures! Especially the last one ๐Ÿ™‚

Melanie - He is precious and I love that last picture of him.

Kara Janzen - Oh Megan! Sean is so big–what a handsome kid! He’s far from those Kindergarten days! Loved seeing all the pictures of him!

Courtney Walsh - love the one of him smiling. And I can’t even ride my daughter’s scooter! And there’s a handle! I do NOT get how these kids ride these ripstiks!!!
Cute pics!

Tanya - I’ve tried this so many times. I can get it going down hill but the uphill is a battle. Kids make it look SOO easy!

Gwyn Rosser - What a handsome young man. Glad to learn what a Ripstick is all about. Looks very fun!
Gwyn Rosser @ The Pink Tractor

Julie - Mr. Balance needs an Indo Board: http://www.indoboard.com/ Hours of indoor fun.

Kate - Oh, he is so cute ~ Great pics, Meg!

pambuller - he is my favorite…even if he likes chocolate and cherry in his sonic dr pepper. ๐Ÿ™‚
he’s an awesome kid inside and out, meg. you’re doing a great job!

Christina - Melting my heart! I know what you mean about the boy.
His eyes are amazing, and I am so glad you got your pictures of him. Those are some sweet treasures.

JustMommer - Momma’s love their boys! They can do the goofiest thing and all you can do is smile, because they’re yours and you love em. Cute boy!

sarah - He’s so handsome.
And just two wheels, how cool! He’s awesome!!
I love that he turns on his light and reads at night!!

candace - i would need braces after riding a ripstick – or all new teeth maybe.
what a warm, loving post!

Selina - That post had me in tears. Such a beautiful little man. Please do this with the other kids! I love hearing about them.

Heidi Jo the Artist - Awesome photos! Continue to enjoy your blog even though I don’t comment much. Happy to see you guys had an awesome trip to and from Africa too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Staci - Oh man!!! Those green eyes are TO DO FOR!!!! LOVE em! And boy howdy, I do love those braces ๐Ÿ™‚ (Especially because my man is an orthodontist ๐Ÿ˜‰ heee heee but your little guy wears them well!!!)

Brooke Whitis - So cute! I love his big braces smile! I wish I had more pictures of myself in that stage. He is adorable.
I saw a girl using one of these down the street yesterday and it looked like she was surfing. Very impressive. And scary! I fall off any four wheeled skateboard I get on!!
PS…I bought the yellow ruffled payless shoes yesterday…and thought of you ๐Ÿ™‚ I literally did a little dance, because I think I found the only ones in the store. I meant to go 10 months ago, when you posted. But, alas….putting things off allowed me to hit the BOGO sale. ๐Ÿ™‚

Becky - I just love how you captured your boy there. Those pictures are amazing.
Becky
Cassie B’s friend!

kathy eller - Didn’t realize how much we have in common. You summed up so much of me with my sons. ๐Ÿ™‚

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - He is so cute, and his personality cracks me up. And looks just LIKE you!! I know what you mean about always catching the littlest one in photos. The big kids aren’t really into hanging out with me like Camden is!

Mindy Harris - he’s so beautiful! what a sweetheart.

Sandy - 1. His orthodontist should use the picture of him smiling so big for an ad…wonderful picture.
2. You didn’t mention (for those that don’t know) how the ripstick bends opposite directions in the center…not sure if that makes it easier or harder but it seems harder to me.
3. I’ve never had the guts to try a ripstick…too scary. Congrats to Sean for mastering it!!
Thanks for letting us see what he’s up to. ๐Ÿ™‚

Amber Mershawn - He has one of those faces you just want to squish:). My baby boy has one that I hope stays forever. Sigh.
He is so cute…sad that they get big so fast…

Jennifer - We have a ripstik and the kids love it. My husband even goes out and does it. Me I tried and got about 10 feet. Anyway they are a lot of fun!

tam - whoa. Great Job Sean. ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously impressive. I know the feeling about wanting to do something your siblings can’t. I love the photos. I feel like I stalk my boys, they too, run when they see the camera….

Shann - Good for him that he mastered that thing! It looks very very difficult for me. Face plant, for me, I am sure. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the last photo of him. I love braces on teeth! Very cute! I thought of you the other day at Target. Did you see the little pokka dot plates out for summer? Looks just like you! I was praying for you on your mission trip each time I saw dots. I prayed for you a lot. ๐Ÿ™‚

Amanda - Love this post! He looks a lot like a MegCraig ๐Ÿ™‚
Really love the braces too.

melissa @ the inspired room - Amazing photos Meg! So hard to get those boys to sit down for photos and look so natural!! What a handsome young man. I tell that to my son all the time and he rolls his eyes. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can you believe how much we love those boys?

Mary Beth - Mama’s and Boys.
The BEST relationship in the world!
Thanks for sharing the pictures of him. ๐Ÿ™‚

BriBedell - We don’t get to see the boys a lot but it is always a treat when we do!!

Laura Phelps - should we stop by your place on our big move back east, I will for sure keep Jack’s rip stick in the car!!!!! And no…I can NOT do it at all…I have tried…I can not figure it out for the life of me. Only Jack can.
Oh, our little boys….love em’, but like the rip stick, can’t figure them out!!!

Leah - a couple summers ago we went camping and one of the kids brought a ripstick. They are kind of addicting!

amy d - i tried…attempted my nephews once and plunged straight to the ground…those things are HARD!!! i see sean all the time ripping up and down the sidewalk…he has definitely mastered it!

Sharla - He has a great smile!

LuAnn Smith - Great photos mom! My 11 year old loves his RipStik. I would never attempt to get on that crazy thing…

elma - Nice pictures of your man:) I bought a ripstick for our Jacob who is 12 and the things he can do on it! He helped caleb 7 and abigail rose 9 how to do it. Adrain 6 can’t get it which is ok I don’t need broken bones:)
Jacob LOVES to read and reads at night to Oh well what to do:)

jeanne - I have tried those and I can’t stay on at all!! He is such a cutie…those eyes. You are in trouble mama:-)

Christy - My daughter has a RipStick. She’s 15 now and still uses it all the time. I’m not even going to try. I like my tailbone too much. ๐Ÿ™‚
I used to read after my parents told me to go to bed, too. With a flashlight. Under the covers. Go Readers!!

Heather - Lucky mama! We celebrated our youngest 4th birthday this weekend and our big boy is growing so fast (nearly 7). Time seems to be accelerating. Nice job capturing your boy in some truly sweet pictures:)

se7en - Oh he is cute!!! My guys also read long after lights out – like I wouldn’t know (but I am not about to interfere with reading!!!)… and they adore club penguin – home from home!!! Must be universal boy things!!!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - He’s really cute! I do love that pic of him with his palm to his mouth…seems so natural.
My daughter does the same thing…she reads after we tell her to go to bed. But I actually did get mad at her about that:o Bad mom!
We have a few more things in common. I have green eyes and wear a size 8 shoe too.

jack - Beautiful portraits! You’ve probably answered this a million times, but I’m a new reader, so: what camera, lensesetc do you use?

Tricia - He is so handsome. I love the laughs at the end!! I really enjoyed this post. I actually came here today specifically because I know that your posts are always lifting me up. Thank you for that.
XO*Tricia
P.S. The RipStick. Scary!!
(for me. i’m a total scaredy cat!;)

Tara - gorgeous.
My boys got ripsticks for Christmas…and we took them back the next day…they just weren’t ready to put all the practice that it would take into them!
I have more pictures of our little girl for the exact same reason….she’s with me all the time..at my feet…and my boys….they aren’t. They AVOID the camera at all costs.
love this post. oh, my oldest also reads after lights are suppose to be out….we just can’t punish him for it. And, my boys LOVE club penguin. ๐Ÿ™‚

pam - Those are GREAT pictures!

Susie - What a handsome guy!

traci - He is one handsome boy and looks like a tenderhearted boy… I can tell I would like him!! Love his moves!!

Sue K. - wow meg! he has gotten sooo big! i remember after you had him and how i really wanted another…hello kristin!! great pictures of your good-lookin’ boy! you’ll treasure these for sure! happy spring!

Kimberlee J. - These are great pictures of him. And those eyes—watch out mama! Are the girls chasing him yet??? ๐Ÿ™‚

Heather Richter - Ripsticks are HARD! I can’t even get it up on it’s wheels. He is handsome. And you DO have to love the braces.
Great pics!!!
~Heather R.

Gemma - What a handsome boy..He is going to be a heartbreaker lol! He looks lovely :D..It’s nice to be good at something especially when your siblings aren’t lol.

curious

when scott arrived in our home 11.5 years ago…the noise level changed.
he cried and cried.
then when he could talk…he never stopped.
and all of that is fine with me.
i am a talker…so it's nice to have someone to talk with me.

one day when he was almost 5, i decided to write down all the questions he asked me.
i did it everyday for two weeks.
i kept a notebook in my purse.
because he asked questions non-stop all day long.
such strange questions.

i found the list of questions yesterday while cleaning.
it's long….but soooo funny.

enjoy.

(oh…also…he was deep into an EAGLES phase…he loved bald eagles!)

does that sound like any 5 year old you know?
wow.

sweet little scotty…7 years ago already!
how has it been so long?

Hyacinthe - Kaya kamaal likha hai irhsad shaib is k liye meri taraf se mubarkbaad qubool kijiye aur isi tarah ki jankari dete rahiye Allah aap ko shifaye kamil ata farmaye

Rosham - great work! im in complete awe to see this dosinmien of yours n that too so well-etched n honest to the core. Today,i feel proud being an avid n dedicated listener of the songs which are written by someone who has such in-depth knowledge of our literature. you’ve made me a very proud person today!THANKS for doing this.

Nilcilene - Sir, aapne jo likha vo kaafi accha laga Mujhe bhi kahin ek pada hua sheir yaad aaya, kisne likha yeh toh Yaad nahin par alfaz kuch iss tarah ke hain sirf andaze bayan he har baat badal deita harnwiaa duniya mein koi baat, kabhi nayi baat nahin hoti .sir aapke anusaan , sab geetkaar faiz sahab ki chaya mein nahin dhoop mein hain aur dhoop ke tukdon ko apne geeton mein piro kar garmahat ka anand le rahe hain Shabdon ka hamesha ki tarah accha prayog, main aapke jaisa toh nahin likh sakta par aapka likha hua pad toh sakta hun aur jo accha lagey aapki taarif bhi kar sakta hun .Aaapne accha likha isiliye mujhe accha laga, sir aise he accha achha likhte rahiye aur hamein accha accha lagate rahiye all the best

Shelly - Please could you clarify plans for litocoan and operation of the Nursery/Pre-School at the Lytham site for next year.It has been mentioned that it would be brought into the current Junior school building. Will this be in a secure part of the building with controlled access, and will there be secure, private outdoor play provision ?Are there also plans to amend the current policy regarding utilisation of Early Years Vouchers ? Currently at KEQMS these are only applicable for the hours 1-4pm Mon-Fri, which is not particularly helpful for those not looking for daily schooling at that age.

abercrombie espaรฑa - Acabo de encontrarme a mรญ mismo diciendo, yo no sรฉ … Y el mรกs joven les pide tan rรกpido que apenas llega a la primera pregunta responderรฉ. Me alegra saber que no soy el รบnico ser interrogado por aquรญ!

Katrina - Ok…So I;ve been reading your blog for 2 days now, and am totally hooked! I love the colors, I love your photography…but most of all I love your stories about your kids! I have 3 kids, 14, 13, 11…. And the 13 and 11 year old are Big question askers…Makes my head hurt! LOL! Now that they’re getting older the questions are getting harder, and somedays I just find myself saying, I dunno…And the youngest asks them so quick you barely get to anwser the first question. Glad to know I’m not the only one being questioned around here!!
OH….and btw! The kids are quietly painting castles today! Thanks for the idea!!
Katie

seleta - I’m trying to think of a word that’s beyond adorable…because that’s what this is!!!

www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawmdE7l-CCNVWIRa36k4uPGZBq4UmGCEQjo - I lurk your blog ALL THE TIME, and I wanted to just say that this list (as well as most of your blog, really) has pretty much decided for me that when I have kids, I’m going to stay at home with them. I can’t imagine anyone else answering their questions about life, or forming their memories.

Michelle - Too funny! Thanks for the laugh! I’m going to try this one day.

Diana - wowwwwwwwwwww… i thought it was just my grandkids. LOL! โ™ฅ

Sophie - Hillarious! Wow, he really had a fascination with creatures, speed, size and height eh?!

Suzanne - great idea, that was time well spent! So funny!

Jenni - My favorites: “Does Jesus have a skeleton?” and “Why are you ignoring me?”
LOL! How awesome that you wrote them all down.

Jennifer - That is SO cute! What a great idea to write them down to remember. Why are you ignoring me? Too funny!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - That is hilarious! I always wished I would have taken the time to do something like that. Too cute.

Elisa - It sounds like a 6 year old I know. And I am so guilty of tuning him out- good for you for writing it all down. Whew!

Kit - hahahahahaha!
That was so awesome! I have three boys so we’ve had our share of questions. But seeing them all in one list was so funny!
Great idea, I’m glad you wrote those down!
LOVE your blog, Megan!

Tanya Self - Ours was the same way. Where does God go on vacation? Who is in charge when God is on vacation? He also tends to pair up fighting partners. “If Superman and Batman fought the Incrediable Hulk and Spiderman……”

Tanya H - Oh my word you have the BEST ideas! ๐Ÿ™‚ How smart to copy this all down! I love it!
My daughter is almost 5 and is SUCH a chatter box. She too wants to know about pirates and if things are “still real”. ๐Ÿ™‚ so funny!

Vera - That is the sweetest, funniest thing I have read in a long time! How awesome that you wrote all those down. And seriously, there were some good questions in there. I’m not sure how I would have answered some of them ha! My 5 year old asked me if pigs have belly buttons, and I had to look it up. My 5 year old also says that God “picks you up and carries you to Heaven” when you die – I LOVE that. How neat that Scott said the same thing.

Christina - That is just plain awesome. So great that you have that! Did you attempt to answer them all at the time! That is a fun and good idea to write all the questions down. I bet at the end of the two weeks you couldn’t believe how many there were!

Talia - I am seriously nearly hyperventialiting reading this list! I’m not sure I’d be able to cope!!
I think it’s so sweet to write all those questions down though- such a good memory!
P.S I don’t know the answer to WAY TO MANY of those questions! I will need my iPhone on hand, and google at the ready when I have a kid!

Nichole - I love the question of “Are bad guys real?”, since we’ve been studying in philosophy that people who do bad things are less ‘real’ and people who do good things are more ‘real’ (and God is the ultimate reality, because he is the ultimate good).

traci in virginia - Oh my goodness…you are soooo good to have written that down! How priceless!

Staci - WOW!!!!! my little guy just turned five and all he seems to want to do is build legos and sing Dancing Queen ๐Ÿ™‚ Your Scott is going to do BIG things!!!!!!! I love this list…aren’t you sooo glad you kept a log….mainly to remind yourself you CAN endure through a lot of things ๐Ÿ˜‰

Robyn - im doing this.
hilarious! my son is 4 but this could be his list of questions- happy to see he’s not the only boy doing good guy bad guy… it gets him in to a bit of trouble ๐Ÿ˜‰
a sub teacher said to me recently- “he’s so inquisitive, i love him! he just wants to keep learning”… i thought, wow, that is such a wonderful way to think of his ‘annoying’ non STOP questions and narration all day long! because i don’t know about your son, but my 4 year old often HAS the answer to his question. right or wrong… and usually not in agreement with me!!!!

Heather - Oh my gosh – my husband and I just laughed so hard!! My favorite is “Why are you ignoring me??” Digby is going to be the same way….

Lori - That was extremely entertaining! Loved it! Glad you shared ๐Ÿ™‚

Courtney Walsh - I love that!!! hilarious!!!! What a cutie. I LOVE five year old boys! ๐Ÿ™‚ (Mine is six and he still jabbers on and on… I kinda love it too.) ๐Ÿ™‚

suzka - I love it. We’re right there with stuff like this, too, and I also scribble down their questions and comments. Here’s one I think you might enjoy: on Monday night, the kids and I were talking about Easter. Our six-year-old daughter asked why Jesus was in the tomb for three (versus one, or two, etc.) days. Our eight-year-old son immediately piped up with (and I quote): “there was probably a lot of paperwork involved with resurrection”.
I’m glad just two evenings later that I captured that on the spot. (Where did he get that?) Certainly these records will be priceless as the years unwind.
(Long-time reader, first-time commenter – I think.)

elma - This is such a wonderful post I love it. I think I will write things down from my 7 year old. Our daughter who is 24 when she was a little she would allways stare at the graveyard when we would go to the store and I asked her what she was looking at and she said that she was looking for people who who flying up to heaven but never could see it. I will never forget. Kids are sooo precious.

adrienne - a great laugh for me… over and over! hilarity :)))

Jennifer - I don’t normally comment on your posts but I do read your blog regularly. I did however want to comment on this one. My daughter just turned 3 months old already, and its bittersweet. I cant wait till she grows up to see how successful she’ll be in life, but I want her to stay small forever. I think it was wonderful and a great idea to write down everything. Thank you for sharing your life with us all and your family memories.

Kacey - I love it! Those questions are the best.

Michelle - I was so that child. . . I asked a lot of ‘what if’ questions. . . I remember my mom grounding me from asking ‘what if’ for one day. Love that you wrote them all down.

Sarah@Clover Lane - Now I want to see all your answers? ๐Ÿ™‚
I have a noise level changer too…my 4th. Cried and cried and then talks and talks…same pattern!

cynthia - our “why’s” have turned in to “did you know…” and still they are non stop!

Kate - Precious!!! I need to do that notebook thing! Nate is six and cracking me up EVERY day.

jimena - How cute!!
I have a 4.5 year old that talks every minute of every day, and I love it! A year ago he asked “daddy, who is bigger and stronger, you or hulk?
On the other hand, my 10 year old only opens his mouth to say hi.

Juli - You’re a good Momma to write those all down. I think I would’ve been hollering, “I DON’T KNOW!!!” by the time we got to the 4th question. whew. My kids seem to ask a lot of questions too and I find myself only half listening/half answering or chastising them for “interrupting my thinking”! I am ashamed to call myself a homeschooling Mom! LOL!

purejoy - ohmystars! how cute is that? i hope he’s still inquisitive. and not only would it be exhausting to hear all of those questions, but writing them all down must have been really, really tiring!

Julie - Very sweet. How nice that you wrote down all those questions! I have two boys, so I can relate to some of those questions ~ real boy questions, and things my girls would never think of!

Tegan and Tage - So funny! I love it. I think every Friday you should post some of your answers to those. ๐Ÿ™‚

Melanie - My son is fixing to turn 16 yrs. old and I forgot how much kids talk. Those were cute but I would have gone crazy answering all of them:) Maybe that is why I only have 1 kid:)

merlin - That brought back sweet memories.
The eldest was five, I was close to delivery date with #2 baby and the questions were relentless and ran the gamut just like your list. All my body and mind longed to do was find a quiet, dark cave somewhere alone and wait out the last days….no, the questions needed answers, they are all important, they never ended.
Thankfully labor came and I had a few silent hours to myself. And one of the blessings of the new baby was that somehow the quantity and complexity of the questions seemed to ebb…or maybe I was just better able to attend to answering them again. Funny, funny, sweet memory.

natalie - ahhhhhh im dying. that is hilarious!!!

Alaina - HILARIOUS! Also so endearing! How I wish I would have kept more information like that on my children. Sigh. BTW- I’m still asking some of those questions!

jess - oh my goodness!!!! i can soooooo relate!!! although you are WWWAAAAYYYYYY more patient then i am!!! by 9:30 this morning i was already going bonkers by my 3 year old’s questions!! i need to start writing them down so that i can get a laugh out of it in a few years….so funny!

Shelley Camba - Meg, I read two of these lists to my class of 7th graders. We laughed HARD! Thanks for sharing the questions!

tara - I have something similar….wish I’d written every.single.thing. down….it does go so fast…
I think I need a nap now after reading all those questions.

Ruth - That was so sweet. love, Love, LOVE the stage of questions!

Sara - This is GREAT!
I especially liked the Mustang Horse question, since they eat my grass occasionally!

Big E - I was able to not laugh out loud until I reached the “penis” part. What’s even funnier is that I just asked Pam the same question last week. (BTW, I’m glad that girls don’t have penis’s)

Keli - This is hilarious! My nearly 3 year old is just beginning to ask a lot of questions and I love the idea of writing down some of the questions, to be able to look back and see what her little mind was thinking.
My favorite, at the end-why are you ignoring me?
Thanks for posting-it was a nice treat:)

Robyn Farmer - Why didn’t you post the answer to all of those questions??? Wow!!! I better do my research before my little one starts to talk.

Tonya - LOL!!! My son recently turned 6 and has been talking non-stop since he was about 20 months old! He talked super well at such an early age and hasn’t stopped yet. I love that you’ve written his questions down! What great memories you’re creating!

tam - Oh this brings back some good memories. My oldest son went through a similar stage when he was 3. I wish I would have written down some of his questions. thanks for sharing.

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - this is so cute! what a good idea.

kathy eller - It is sooo cool that you wrote thsoe down!! WOW

Georgia - HAHA that reminds me of when my brother was 5, and i was 12… i was like Mum!! tell him to shut up please, i cant cant take any more…
He always asked me, – Georgia…. ‘yes’ can a boxer lift a house… ‘No louix’ …. Georgia … ‘Yes’ can a Boxer lift a car .. ‘No Louix..’ Georgia … why cant they lift a house…
Soooooo Annoying, but really funny now to look back on!! haha
xxx

Courtney - That’s so cute! My daughter just turned 5 and I should do something similar for her, but with her, she makes STATEMENTS because, well, I guess she has all the answers ๐Ÿ™‚

Heather - my son is just like this. I had to answer about 27 questions just while i was reading this! love it ๐Ÿ™‚

Kirsten - That is hysterical, and priceless! My daughter is the same…and she always expects a response…my mindless mommy “umm hmmmm’s” just don’t cut it. Haa! how did you answer some of those????

J.B. Kinrich - Hysterical! Reminds me of my son at that age. He talked nonstop and asked so many questions I used to beg him to stop, just for five minutes. Now he’s 17 and I wish he’d talk more!

Rebekah - My favorite: “Why do I have to do all the work around here???” Ha ha! I should do this. Ginny’s list would be very heavily weighted on the “Can you read me a book?” side. Cute post. ๐Ÿ™‚

Annie - This is hilarious! I have a 4 year old who could be his match!!

Messy@Bungalow'56 - I miss those days! My youngest is 7 going on 40 :o)
Dana

amanda fuentes - Cute! I keep records like that of my oldest 2, too. (The baby thankfully does not talk yet!). I have a recurring post on my blog called Conversations with Olivia, she is 4 and really has so doosies! ๐Ÿ™‚

Tara @ the cinnamon post - love this…so much like my son…thanks Meg for a morning smile:)
~Tara

shelly - I’m laughing And feeling really ashamed…how great that you thought of writing it all down!!! I find myself getting completely exasperated by my sons’ constant questions! I’m going to have to try and write them down instead ๐Ÿ™‚

meaghan - oh. my. goodness!!!!

Krista - I don’t know how you answered all of those questions, or maybe you had “selective” hearing, like I sometimes do! My favorites were – why does Dad look old, why does your skin look old? Oh to be 5 years old!

Lori - HILARIOUS!!! He sounds like a HOOT. So very cute.
I’m wondering if he still talks incessantly…I have a 5-year old boy who is my talker and just wondering if that’s going to last. ๐Ÿ™‚

Trish - wow!!! that is so funny ๐Ÿ™‚

kristine - omg that’s hilarious! did you answer all those questions? or did he just keep asking new ones that you didn’t have to? i would have to have spent a lot of time on google! that’s so awesome that you wrote them all down.

Audrey - Last fall during wheat harvest my 8 year old wanted to know if my arms got tired when I was young using that big knife to harvest wheat when we lived on a farm. How old does he think that I am???? I have an 8, 6, 4, and almost 2 year old. Most days I love the conversation! Glad to know that mine aren’t the only inquisitive ones!

Julie - Holy Cow! That is alot of questions!!!

Nicole Q. - I love that, I recently read somewhere what the crazy number of questions an average preschooler asks is, wish I could find that. I just remember thinking, “no wonder my brain is fried at the end of a day.” My favorite question Scott asked was, “Does God have a penis?” hilarious

candace - That list is exhausting but adorable. The best were “Why is it my birthday?” “Can a wasp kill a dog?” “Do you think squirrels are sneakier than cheetahs?” the one about sharks he answered himself and the ones about age. Ha!

Marie - That’s adorable! And what a good idea to write this all down! I always think I’ll remember those little gems, but as days turn into years, some of those sweet little memories fade. I may do this for my toddler at some point.

Karina - I have a five-year-old boy now and I can relate to this list! I also have a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl – our house is buzzing with similar questions. I am loving their incessant curiosity now – I know it will get damped down or stuffed down later, which is sad. Although it must also be more peaceful, LOL!

brooke - haha! i love it!! this is such an awesome memory to look back on and it reminds me so much of my meghan! sometimes i can barely get a word in just to answer!!
my favorite is “why does dad look so old”! as i recently was asked what it was like when i was little and everything was in black and white!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Oh dear. Scott is Calvin. I need to start keeping this list. What a fun thing to look back on! My favorite was “Why don’t libraries have trophies?”

feather - this is such a man list! constantly trying to understand who’s the biggest and strongest creature out there…and then how could that big, strong creature be killed? my boy is five now, and i recognize many of the same kinds of questions! i love that you wrote them all down.

christy - Oh my too funny, you have to save that for his scrapbook.
I love the question when will Nana have a baby !!! that cracks me up

Jane - I’m exhausted just reading the list! So cute!

Erin @ Cultivating Home - My brain hurt trying to imagine all my possible answers to his questions! My son’s only three, so I guess I have one or two years to prepare. How truly wonderful to have such a curious boy!
~Erin

Sheila - Bless your heart Meg! You must have been exhausted every day when he was 5! How sweet!

Cate O'Malley - I can totally relate. My son is 7 now, but I remember reading a statistic when he was 5 that said kids that age ask upwards of 500 questions a day. Having lived through that, I’m fairly certain it’s true.

Kim - I am laughing b/c my daughter recently phased into the “ask a million questions and talk incessantly” stage. I can’t even read all of Scott’s cute questions right now b/c my brain is so full of little girl chatter! I love your idea of writing it down ~ funny memories!

funny stuff

sean said:

"When you get a baby out….

(i thought….oh no where is this leading?')

can it cry so much that it would run out of breath?"

*************************************************************************

after sean came home from a play date i asked "did you say thank you?"

he said "Oh no!  i was having such a good time i just forgot!"

*************************************************************************

annie asked:

"does food go into your throat, down to your tummy

and into your toes and that's how we get energy?!"

i answered  "ummmm….yes!" to make it easy.

sean said "hey!….that's NOT what happens to food!"

************************************************************************

annie asked last night "why does bread have sugar in it?"

she was eating cinnamon sugared toast.

and before i could say that it didn't she shouted……

"Cause the chicken wanted to get to the other side!"

*************************************************************************

while walking the dog annie remembers something:

"Oh mom…you forgot to get me to ride a unicorn!"

me: "i did?  was i supposed to do that?"

annie "yes. don't worry we'll do it in…..6 years."

**************************************************************************

sean did not want to ride go carts yesterday.

then he finally got brave and did it.

while walking to the car he said

"i wish i wouldn't have not wanted to do that before.  it was great."

me: "well, next time you are nervous about something you can tell yourself –

remember the go-karts"

he answers seriously "yeah well i am never going to be a doctor.

you have to touch feet AND privates….gross!"

huh?

*************************************************************************

for some reason my kids think it's hilarious to see a man in a suit riding a bike.

they laugh and laugh.

the other night the conversation over ice cream
went like this:

sean: wouldn't it be funny to see a man in suit on a bike?

scott: or on a bike in a diaper?

talby: or in a diaper on tricycle?

scott:  with a beanie hat with a propeller?

annie:  yeah!!  a diaper!  hahahahahahahahahha!!!!"

that would be pretty funny.

************************************************************************************

at bible study i served sloppy joes.

sean asks "did you make these mom?"

me: yes sean.  you'll like them. they are the same that i always make.

sean: are the same as dad makes?

(craig makes sloppy joes occasionally when he has to cook)

me: yes, they are the same as dads…it's our secret man-wich recipe.

sean realizes i am kidding about the secret and says:

"well it should be a secret because it's so good!"

Tanya - I love when kids leave me speechless and confused! HA! ๐Ÿ™‚

Quinn - these are sooo cute, hahhahahah.
hope you are having a great time ๐Ÿ™‚

AshleyAnn - Just the 5 billionth time I’ve checked to see if you are back…can’t wait.

tara pollard pakosta - ha how cute!!!
and I think the Dr. comment was
because he wants to be Dr. but
it’s too gross, so even if he tells
himself to remember the go-karts,
he still wouldn’t be a Dr. cause it’s gross
even though he wants to be one?! that is SOCUTE!
tara

Jessica Clarke De Rosa - Love it!! This is my first time leaving a comment but I need to tell you how much I love your blog!! I can’t wait to hear all about your trip!!

Isn’t it amazing how kids’ mental workings work!
Missing you in blogland!
โ™ฅ

kelly@the blue muse - out of the mouths of babes…that was great!

Christina - Those are some of the funniest things I’ve heard. I love writing the quotes down.
The conversation about the man on a bike sounds very much like something my two older kids would say. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s like a snowball turning into an avalanche.
I have been praying for you all, and those you are ministering to…looking forward to hearing about it!

Tammy - Prayed for you today – all of you there and all of yours back home. ๐Ÿ™‚

if you give up sugar….

then saying yes to making a cake isn't the best idea.
but there was nothing else to do…so i said yes.  (with rachel's voice in my head…selfishness megan)

IMG_1073
she did all the pouring and mixing.
i put it in the pans…and took them out of the pan.
i made the frosting but she put it on.

i licked my finger once.
then i gasped.
(it was like charolette in the shower in mexico with the water….spit it out. spit it out. spit it out.
)
i'm serious about this sugar thing.

while it cooked she got out all the things she wanted to put on the cake.
sprinkles, candy canes, marshmallows.
she kept calling it a christmas cake.
i asked her "why is it a christmas cake?"
then she said "it's a cake for jesus!"

IMG_1079
i said "it is?  will he like it?"
she answered "OH YES!!! but he can't eat any…only we can"

then she sang "happy birthday to jesus."

i think they must have done it at sunday school or preschool…because we haven't ever done that.
IMG_1087
i didn't touch this cake.
she did it all.
i loved watching her create with food.

i told her "i think you will be a baker when you grow up"
"No mom. a chef. not a baker.  and i will be a mom and you will be a grandma"

ok…i'm good with that.

IMG_1090

one for the cake…

IMG_1092  IMG_1093

and one for annie.

IMG_1109
nice job annie.
jesus would love it.

Foy (Garden Cook Write Repeat) - That’s so cute and she did a really good job!
Way to let your kid learn from experience!

tami reed - I love her cake, great job!

Bethany - WOW that is such a sugary cake– hehe! It does look yummy though- Annie did a great job ๐Ÿ™‚

Kristine - it’s like a gingerbread house…on a cake! so cute! great job for saying YES! AND for resisting the sugar. you are doing better than me!

Suzanne - Jesus certainly would love it…and Annie is so very adorable!

Kelly - Yea for Annie! Great job! Kelly

linda lou - annie did such a wonderful job on decorating the cake who knowns she just might be a cake decorator when she growns up!! blessings.
linda (amy’s d mom)

dori - I don’t have kids of my own, but you’ve inspiring me to let my students be creative with more than just paper, scissors, and glue.

Lisa K in FL - Oh my gosh – Annie is so totally adorable and you are the very best mommy ever! I wish was I was more willing to allow my kiddos to be free to create. I’m going to get with God on that one.

Heidi Jo the Artist - This is so awesome! We love singing happy birthday to Jesus too!

Trina - Great post! That is awesome. So wonderful that you caught it all on camera!

Amy - What a sweet day. Thanks for sharing. Still giggling about the Charlotte comment. ๐Ÿ™‚

Routhie - You need a like button for things like this. Super cool of you and her!

Melanie - She is so cute and you are a great mom. Very good for you about the sugar!

rhondagill@comcast.net - That last photo is perfection. What a beautiful blessing God has given you.

Staci Danford - What a darling cake.. You are just an angel to sit through that and not eat the whole thing.. Loved the sweet smiles on her face.. That was a load of sugar in its self.
Staci

Diana - Whewwwwwww, I can FEEL that sugar all the way across town! LOL! We don’t do a lot of sugar ourselves… but we let the grandkids do that when they are here. I’ve never been one to take much to sugary things, and amazingly, my own boys didn’t want lots of candy or stuff like that when they were growing up.
Why am I stunned that so many said they haven’t let their kids do things like this??? I’m thinking that you posting this is going to start a whole new craze with parents and kids in the kitchen! I’ve always done things like this with my kids and now my grandkids. It’s such fun to watch them create all by themselves! I would not trade those moments for anything!
LOVE that AWESOME cake, Annie! Christmas cake for Jesus is good ANY time of the year!
โ™ฅ

Jerilyn - i absolutely love your blog, so i nominated it for an award (over on my blog)

Stina - I’ll bet someone has already said this (sorry, didn’t have time to check), but I know of a few people who make birthday cakes for Jesus on Christmas Eve or Day. They use white cake and white frosting (purity)…but the same idea your daughter had. Sing ‘Happy Birthday’, read the story of His birth, remember why we celebrate Christmas.
And that Annie of yours is pure gold! She is such a sweetheart.

Christina - I’m actually crying. How precious is that face?! And what a cake! She didn’t hold anything back, did she? ๐Ÿ™‚

Vera - LOVE!! That girl ROCKS! Plus, it looks like she’s helping you out by getting all the sugar out of the house!

Tiffany Morris - LOVE this!

janie - This post cracks me up because I did that one year ago, and only made it until my daughters birthday. I baked her a wicked delicious birthday cake and as she stared at me with adorable 3 year old eyes saying “Mommy want some cake?” I caved, hard. But the exercise in self control really did make a difference to the cravings, both physically and mentally.
I found your blog through the homies, before you won, but put my vote in for you the moment I saw your blog. I’ve continued to enjoy!
Best of luck with your resolutions!

the inadvertent farmer - I understand the whole sugar thing…but for me I’ve gone vegan and must leave the room when the cheese is out! Yes, happy birthday Jesus, He would love it…sugar and all! Kim

linda@LimeintheCoconut - oh. my. Goodness.
I could eat that little girl up with a spoon she is so adorable.
The cake…I’ll save for jesus…and annie.
Beautiful post!

Angela - Love, love. love it. This year we started our own tradition and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus and ate cake for breakfast before we read some children’s books about the true meaning of Christmas and then we enjoyed our stockings and presents. Our eight month old simply played along, but our three year old truly enjoyed celebrating Jesusโ€™ birthday…who can say no to blowing out candles and eating cake when youโ€™re three. I also wanted to thank you for your link to Rachel’s beautiful speech. I immediately linked my friends and family to her speech via our family blog and have scheduled it for viewing at our women’s bible study this week. I am so excited to watch it for the second time and absorb everything she has to share all over again. I like you have her voice in my mind and keep saying “I am here to serve with joy” over and over again. God bless you Meg.

karen - We are on a sugar holiday of sorts at our house too and it is BRUTAL! I wanted to share a little something I found that helps take the edge off. (I even sound like an addict. And don’t get me started on caffeine.) Have you tried “organic Raw Blue Agave”? It is low glyvemic and won’t spike your blood sugar like the good ol’ white stuff. Perfect in things that you need a little sweet…oatmeal, grape-nuts,tea, etc. My kids even eat it on pancakes. (My mom gave it to them and they didn’t know the difference.)
Good luck…I’m cheering you on! ๐Ÿ˜‰

robyn - fantastic. beautiful.
and you can tell her that he “can” eat it- eating fish was how he proved he was human and not a ghost post-ressurrection. she can quiz her friends at preschool as to what jesus ate to prove he wasn’t a ghost, then trick them by the cake lead-in =)
nice cake.
and man alive, i guess this year you’ll have to carve out time for comment-reading alone?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

JerriR - Annie is so cute…cake was lovely…and I wish I had your will power…cutting back on all things bad for me…slowly but surely! Good Luck!

Heather Giustino - What a sweet girl!! Love her fun cake, and singing to Jesus!

Jennifer Dawn - That is truly the cutest thing ever!

Donna - Annie is just about the cutest girl I have ever seen! And what a wonderfully creative cake…..I love it. We love to make cakes at our house, too. I need to learn to be a bit more hands-off, and I think I can do it after reading your post. I just can’t stand the sound of sprinkles crunching under my feet for the rest of the day ๐Ÿ™‚ I love your blog!!!

Gina - We sing happy birthday to Jesus every Christmas morning at breakfast. This year we sang 4 times in a row. It’s fun! I love Annie’s cake, and Jesus would love it too! :o)

Lisa Liddell - My girlies made a jesus cake for christmas, it is so much fun. I am amazed that you have all the lovely candy goodness in your cupboards, uneaten and waiting to be used on cakes. It would be gobbled up in my house. I have to do special runs to the supermarket when decorating calls.
BTW I watched rachels story last week, oh my it changed me! I need to write the four truths down. Know God, Know yourself, know the gospel, know your purpose. ALL GOD CENTERED! What a challenge.

Jessie - Loved the Rachel link. There should have been a kleenex alert before viewing. Great message.

Ali Richardson - Great job staying away from the cake (& one finger lick is NOT a big deal)! I am new to commenting but definitely not new to reading. My sister in law is the one that made that cool scrapbook paper wall that you featured on your sidebar. Anyway, LOVE your blog! Oh yeah, and I made your crescent chicken yesterday and it turned out GREAT (and you’re right….no leftovers). I am a “mac n cheese” out of the box kind of gal so it was nice to find something so tasty that was super easy to make. Keep doin’ what you’re doin’!

Kara - Laura’s comment is funny…”Jesus gave up sugar too”! Did she eat this cake after she made it? It looks way too sweet to actually eat!

Jacci - “But there was nothing else to do”????
What does that mean? As in – there was nothing you could do to avoid giving in to her sweet smile or do you mean that you had nothing else to do that morning besides let her bake a cake?
Just wondering.
~Jacci in Ohio

Christy - She is just the cutest thing ever! Love the cake! A friend of mine did a “cake for Jesus” with her kids when they were little, so sweet.
Congrats on the sugar kick! Mine is Dr. Pepper, so far over a week into it & I am doing pretty good.

immyyas - Love this post! She is an absolute doll. Seeing kids be imaginative & creative is the best! Good for you on the only licking your finger once… impressive!!!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - WOW!! She did an amazing job. I love your reference to that Sex in the City scene, so funny!!! I feel ya. I’m doing a no sugar thing too. I would have done the same thing. You are one strong chick to even stand that close to the cake, just the smell would do me in:)

Brooke - i absolutely love this…what an awesome memory for her…

Flower Patch Farmgirl - It’s perfect. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, I just listed to Rachel. THANK you for telling us about that. How could it not change us?

christi - hi meg! quick and silly question for you. i think it was on your blog {in the sidebar} that you linked to this colorful canvas someone did that listed out their family goals. i can’t find that link in my bookmarks. do you know what i am talking about and if so, could you pass along the link to me again? thanks SO much!!

Tegan and Tage - Too sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚ There is nothing like the precious heart of a child. Thank you for sharing!

Staci - HOW AWESOME IS ANNIE!!!???? Well, we allll know that answer ๐Ÿ™‚ Sweet Sweet Annie!!! I’m serious, I’ve said it before….my littlest guy will turn 5 in March….please let Annie marry him!!!! And then, I, too can have a Happy Birthday Jesus Cake made by Annie ๐Ÿ™‚ (But we would make her go to OU football games!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Ashley - How cute! The way you are with your kids is so inspiring to new momma’s like me!

Val Russell - The Charolette scene (and what followed) was great!! And the cake looks yummy!

Summer - So sweet! You’ve inspired me to go on a sugar detox….I was getting so out of control. I haven’t had any in four days. Really, I can’t believe how much better I already feel. I do have to say, that is some real self control on your part!

Jill - So sweet!

Melissa - That is the most darling cake I’ve ever seen. And your reference to Charlotte in the shower just made me laugh so hard I snorted.
In my family we have a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve. We light the candles, sing, the whole she-bang, and the kiddos get to blow out the candles when we’re done. ๐Ÿ™‚

Jessica - I showed this photo to my 4.5 year old. She said she wants to be Annie’s friend so she can make cakes with her.

christi - seriously? she is such a cute girl!

feather - that is one precious little girl. and one awesome mama. i love that you let her do it all. how special for her. and rewarding. and you didn’t go back for a second lick? impressive

sheila payne - I don’t know hat was more beautiful her or the cake… Yes Jesus would love it it is fit for a KING! Happy Wednesday to you and yours.
Sheila

Rosemarie - Beautiful! And the Charlotte comment had me cracking up – I’m pregnant and did that with raw cookie dough the other day – and I thought about the SAME exact thing!

Laura Phelps - I hear that Jesus is off of sugar too
looks like Annie gets the whole cake!

elizabeth - Her bangs/haircut just kills me. She’s so freaking cute. And your sugar boycott is inspirational, although right now, I’m cutting sugar vicariously…

Courtney Walsh - I feel ya on the sugar thing. Attempting to cut back my ridiculous coffee consumption right now. It’s making me cranky with a capital CRANK!
Love Annie’s cake. ๐Ÿ™‚ She’s is quite the little CHEF!!

Sara - That is darling! So cute! I would eat it up though, good self control!

shelly - Oh my goodness!!! You are the front runner for mom of the year! Not only did you agree to bake a cake while doing no sugar, but you let her frost and decorate it too!!! I really need to loosen up and just let the kids create! Love how loaded the cake was! Reminds me of our Christmas cookies with and inch of frosting and twice as high in sprinkles! (Serious kudos for only taking a lick…I thought letting the kids get schwan’s ice cream cones was hard!)

Shirley Wood - I never had the nerve to let my children do something like that in the kitchen. You are such a great mom to do that. Sorry I missed out on such things.

Jen Hinton - OMG…way too yummy!!!
FYI-I’m highlighting your blog on my show today 12pm EST! http://bit.ly/7BxxHw

Rachel - How cute! Better than I could do!!

Ruth H. - Very cute! Reminds me of yesterday…minus the cake. My six year old asked me during lunch if I knew how to find “the place for poor people to live.” I replied that I could find out, why did she need to know? She explained that she was hoping we could spend the afternoon shopping for clothes and shoes and toys….all for the poor people, then we could take them there. I agreed that it was a very thoughtful idea, but wondered what made her think of that. Her reply: “Because Christmas isn’t about getting gifts, it is about giving them. It is about love. It is about what Jesus would do.”
Apparently, it is still Christmas. As it should be!

Renee - Great post, Meg. I love to see Annie in all her glory. I thought of you yesterday while we made sugar cookies and let the kids go to town with cutters and sprinkles. Steve and I were both silently cursing the dough that wouldn’t cooperate. I said, “We’re making happy memories for them, remember?” He just laughed at me. It was good. It was a “Meg moment.” Cheers! xoxo

Tracy - this is the cutest thing I’ve seen and heard all day! So precious.
LOVE how serious you are about kicking the sugar – GREAT job resisting…that cake *does look delish!

Jenni - I’ve done the “spit out” thing when I’ve been on sugar fasts in the past, too. It’s rather comical! Loved the photos, and the commentary. So sweet.

Tara @ the cinnamon post - I just love this post. Well done Meg with the sugar. You are to be commended! As for me I ate one and one-half cinnamon buns yesterday…before bed…it would have been two whole ones but someone caught me. It was a weak moment for me. Annie is so cute. Love the bangs.
