IMG_8490-11
it was time to run.
i love to start with Roll Away Your Stone by Mumford & Sons blasting.
it was PERFECT weather today.

it's 2:00 and i still haven't showered since that run….gross.
i had better get moving.

how was your morning?

mulberry handbags - I love your blog very much, more more info, I will concern it again!

Christina - I have to ask this question…do you like your waffle maker? I bought one not too long ago, and it stinks! I made waffles the other night (breakfast for dinner 🙂 ) and the batter exploded out the sides and back! There is no way I can see to clean it off of the springy-hingey thing in the back! Anyway, yours looks kind of kick-butt…I am looking into a new one and wondered what you thought of yours. 🙂 I know you are super busy, but if you get a chance to tell me about it, I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you!!

Kristin S - I’m a week behind reading blogs (40th birthday vaca trip!).
Girl, you have some awesome legs.
So proud of you for running 3.5 miles without stopping to walk! I’ve been running for 3 years and can’t do that. Press on! So worth it.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - comfy PJs. Is there anything better? So proud of you for running. Rock on!

Jennifer - love love love 90’s music!

Lynda - Meg please share your pumpkin waffle recipe – I’ve been craving them all day! Love your cute polka dot pj’s – I must get to Target soon 🙂

Christie - Ha! I NEVER not shower right after a run….. errr…. 🙂 You’re my must read everyday.

Anne-Marie from CT - Thanks for blogging in the midst of your daily days. You make me laugh with your words, and your photos are like drugs(good ones), for the eyes. In the midst of a busy blogland…yours is my favorite! just sayin’

Sandy - I can’t remember everything I saw that I adore, but your coffee cup and Annie’s comment are priceless!! I don’t use my dishwasher anymore with only 2 of us in the house, but I can’t imagine your crew without one. 🙁

crystal beutler - My morning was awesome — bible study day. I wish I could ad Sonic to the mix. 🙂
I want those P.J’s 🙂

linda lou - where do you get your donut coffee???? amy d’s mom need to know 🙂 blessings

Moriah - Cute post today. Just wanted to chime in that 80s on 8 is what I get movin to in the morning. 🙂 Love it! Enjoy Sonic!

Kristen - showering is over-rated. 🙂

Jenn - Love it all! My morning was good…very much like yours. Up at 5:10 (Boot Camp at 5:30), back home at 6:30, everyone up, dressed, out the door to school and work. Made a quick stop at Target for some deals. Now I sit and work. I love mornings minus the whining from the 5 year old.

TinaM. - I had to drive my boys to school so I could run next door to the middle school to drop off my daughters french horn mouth piece she forgot. Then quick ride back home for a cup of coffee with peppermint mocha creamer {my favorite}

Bobbie - now I’m craving chocolate donuts…. not chocolate donut coffee but chocolate donuts…. but I would have to stop and put gas in the car in order to go get them.

Janelle - When you get a chance we would all love your pumpkin waffle recipe 🙂

jennyonthespot - Run. Gotta do that. Yes. Gotta. Today. Or tomorrow? 😉

danielle burkleo - i will get those pj pants and i will be your twin…only pregnant.
i daydreamed about going to africa with you the other day when you blogged about it. i want to.
have a beautiful day, friend!

Heather - I’ve missed you. I’ve been in a depressed funk for a couple of months now and stopped reading all my blogs that lift me up, yours being one.
I actually started praying for God to bring my sorry ass back to reality and open my eyes to my blessings, rather than leave me wallowing in sadness over the thing I wanted and can’t have.
As soon as I started praying (which I don’t often do for garden variety angst, rather I save it for life and death stuff) the clouds cleared and I’m on my way back.
And so here I am, back to reading your loveliness. And today is lovely, as usual.

Kerry - aaah what a lovely morning Meg! love the bath shot. pumpkin waffles – yummo!!!!!! xx

Leigh - I want those PJ pants but I know if I buy them I will wear them too much and end up sitting on the couch with a movie and hot cocoa…daily. 🙂

Catriona - My morning has just begun; it’s 9:25 here. Got up at 6:45 after a shocking night’s sleep – 1 child up 3 times for no apparent reason, me and the husband awake from 3-5. Made lunch for 1, breakfast for 5 then walked 6-year old to school while husband and 2 littlies stayed here. Friend randomly texted me a verse from Lamentations about resting in God’s sovereignty today. So timely and encouraging. Off to make coffee and hide from my children. Wouldn’t you know that the one who was up 3 times has the most energy…

Von - Another gorgeous, inspiring post. Big fan over here. I imagine lots of people have asked for a running playlist – it would be a community service, surely?!

Mel - Wow your kids go to school on a real YELLOW school bus…that is so cool. Can you tell I’m not from the USA?
PS: thanks for always keeping us informed as the what music you have been listening to , exactly the kind of random/useless information I love to know about people ( that, and what are they having for dinner) 🙂 🙂

Jessica Johnson - um. that *almost* makes me like coffee. almost. but now i just want a donut.

Wendy Hagen - I love your pjs. I will be your twin. And then maybe you could be the twin who does all the dishes and never showers.. I did my INSANITY workout this morning and went to a special chocolate cafe to get hot chocolate with a a friend and her kid today. To counteract my workout, of course.

Maria - Seriously…”dit”? Wish autocorrect caught that…they need an auto grammer check I think…

Maria - I also have the polka dot pjs—white (Minnie Mouse) dot version…I pick dit up last year along with long sleeve grey super soft pj top…one of my faves!
Pumpkin waffles…sounds yummy…

Laura Phelps - i barely remember my morning..it is almost tomorrow morning!
but it looks a lot like yours 🙂
and my toe polish is blue…and badly chipped

Heather G. - My morning was awesome!

Jenna@CallHerHappy - Oh My Goodness! That is one early bath! Also, I love that pic of your running shoes. Can I ask how you took it?
Jenna
callherhappy.com

Sandra K - Rockin’ calves girl! Your house is amaze-balls!! Morning was swell, thanks for asking! Put the kids on the bus with a hug, highlander grog coffee from local coffeehouse, off to my fabulous part-time job. God bless you & your family!

Tiffany - Holy crap, baths at 610a. Whoa. Pumpkin muffins, u rock. Chocolate coffee, pass. Sweetness from Annie, yes please. Still sweaty at 2, story of my life.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Do you think I’ll run once all of the kids are in school? I like to tell myself yes, I will.
My morning was frazzly, as evidenced by the fact that I just realized that I only put one earring in. I wore just the one around all day long.
ps – Nice calves, Lady.

Julia - I was sitting in strings class with the 5 year old at 7am listening to d d d {rest} d d d {rest}
then same thing over again with g and f sharp.
Did my Bible study at Starbucks while mumbling Romans 1:16 to myself over and over again.
Bible study then back to school to have lunch (good news she didn’t cry when she saw me this time even though I didn’t bring cookies…again)
Stared at the ceiling for 15 minutes….pick up at two schools, was in the car for 5 hours this afternoon.
What day is tomorrow?

Kristen - I love the pj’s! I think you should share more of your workout songs. I’m curious now…aaaand I need a running playlist renovation.

Amy - Funny….I just brewed myself a cuppa chocolate glazed donut coffee at the kid’s dentist’s office this afternoon! Sooo yum and WAY less calories than the real thing! Loved it! And love those polka dotted jamma pants, too! 😉

Risa - i love the running shot! awesome!

shannon - everyone keeps posting about pumpkin waffles and now I really want some!!! already have the same pj pants so we are twins, yay 🙂
thanks for sharing your morning with us, mine was not too exciting unless you consider mopping exciting?

nicole @ deliajude - i love your ability to “keep it real”
thanks.

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - I loved this post! It’s always fun to see how others spend their day. 🙂

Kristi Rediske - What a day you had-I think I know where you are running-I can tell from the background in your picture-Do you run along the creek on the trail?

Silvia - My morning was great. Got up at 5am to swim laps with my hubby and then after getting the three big kids off to school I sat around and watched PBS with my twins and scrapped for way too long. Then I started feeling blah from allergies-Houston can sometimes be tough on the allergies. But I’m thankful I have a child that’s driving so she can run to Chick-fil-a for dinner 🙂
P.S. you’re so awesome for making homemade waffles on a Wednesday, I only do that Sat. or Sundays!

Michelle Rotner - better than yours starting at 6:10. we’re on fall break and sleeping in.
the pic of your running shoes and legs is stellar.

amy - Lots of wishing going after looking at your blog post….wish I could be out of bed by 6:10am, wish my brain function enough in the morning to make pumpkin waffles, wish I could motivate myself to run and more than anything — wishing that Germany had Targets. Blast.

jackie grandy - Love Target and their jammies especially Nick and Nora. My daughter (who is 11) and I have the same purple owl flannel jammies from last year! We love them. She is still young enough where its not embarrassing to wear the same jammies as mom! I’m a huge runner as well! Have you tried the New Balance barefoot shoe? Amazing! My knee problems are gone!!

Heather aka moreygirl - haha! Love that you haven’t showered yet:) I do that all the time. glad to know I’m not alone!

amy - Our dishwasher has been out for 2 months 🙁 We finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one only to find that the one I picked wont be in stock until Nov. 2! Love the pj’s, BTW

seriouslysassymama - We will not talk about how I forget to shower, or just plain run out of time from being lazy. Having the husband move the DVD player in the living room so I can start my morning with a workout. Chocolate doughnut coffee? I must tell my sister about this. I wish sometimes I was a runner. Then I remember how much I jiggle when I run and it makes me sad. I guess if I ran I would not jiggle. Go figure!

Erin Whitney - Must try pumpkin waffles! In the past 2 days, I’ve made 5 loaves of pumpkin chocolate chip bread and 1 pumpkin cake roll. (As well as about 5 freezer dinners.) I’m assuming this is nesting, as I’m 6 months pregnant….and we’re buying a house. So since I can’t “nest” and organize, I’m baking. At least my house smells good. 🙂

sarah - I love your yellow laces (and the bathroom tile).
My morning sort of sucks. Who says vacations are relaxing? Trying to pack, keep the house clean with 3 kids, one sick, and laundry is hours from being done. I still feel completely and totally blessed amongst the crap. That’s only the work of God, because I really want to go to bed and forget today.

meghan - i always read your blog but hardly ever comment. i don’t know why. but today…
on my way into the city this morning i heard the head and the heart and i love them so much! i saw you post on that a couple of weeks ago.
then…mumford and sons. i listen to that song over and over again when i run.
we might me music soul mates.

Melissa - I just got a waffle maker. Pumpkin waffles sound amazing…wanna share your recipe??

Tammy - Love this post. A wonderful glimpse of a perfectly normal morning. Love it.

Erin - i love posts like this – an inside look at our days. i wrote one recently like this – it was fun to pause and think about all that we do in our crazy filled days (http://erinsbitsandbobs.blogspot.com/2011/09/mondays.html). love your blog!

Jacci - it was great morning 🙂 thanks for asking.

Tracy - I just found your blog (it’s lovely!) and scrolled through a few pages (Sept 30th is my birthday, too 🙂 I just wanted to tell you that my 2 1/2 year old daughter kept saying, “gorgeous, gorgeous” at all the photos. And she’d occasionally add a sigh and a “I love babies!”
Hope your afternoon is awesome, too

Cindy - I don’t know why, but I always love your “random” posts so much. they make me smile. 🙂

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - My new normal for mornings is to wake up between 6 & 6:30, make sure the girls get up and into their uniforms, get showered & dressed and we’re heading downstairs at 7am for breakfast and so I can do my hair and check emails. We feed the pets, brush teeth, make lunches and get out teh door no later than 7:30. We have a gorgeous ride up a mile long hill to get to school where I teach and the girls attend.
On a daily morning basis, we see deer(including bucks and fawns), groups of turkeys, foxes and even one time, an owl. Its like a nature reserve and makes me feel so close to God on that ride!

Southern Gal - I love to run to that song, too! How can you not be motivated with that blaring in your ears? 😉

BriBedell - My morning was good. Hubby let me sleep in until 10 (even though he worked last nigt and got home at 6 this morning). Then I fed the kids toaster waffles, got my oldest ready for preschool. Then I have been printing off free templates to make baby number three (my first boy!!!!!) his very own bibs 🙂

Nichole - I’m taking this week off from work. I exercised and have done nothing else! Which is bad, because I need to run to walmart to pick up a box for a wedding gift, which I need to have done by tomorrow! I guess I should finish the gift, too.
Does not quite match up to waking up in Vegas yesterday, but you take what you get. 😉

AshleyAnn - You have awesome calves!

happygirl - You know, if I got up with the moon, I’m might get a lot more done before I plop my butt behind this desk. LOVE the jammies. 🙂

Sarah - your morning was much better than mine! If it makes you feel any better I found out this morning my dishwasher is also not working.. such a hassel! Then I reminded myself that I might not have a working dishwasher but I have clean running water! Happy sonic day!

Holly - I have polka dot target pj pants from last year but mine have white dots. They are still one of my favs. 😉

Nikki - I love to start any day with Roll Away Your Stone!!!

Aimee - I got the boys off to school and realized I hadn’t had any hugs. 🙁 At least I made them smoothies for breakfast, though, and I made their lunches.
I rowed on the lake, and Mother Nature held back the rain until practice was over.
I ate a salmon & egg scramble, cuz rowing makes me huuuungry.
And I still haven’t showered yet, either. But it’s only 12:07 PDT.

Tanya H - awesome photo journal! 🙂 Now I’m going to see if you’ve posted your pumpkin waffle recipe……….YUM!

Cali3
(1. the cute table decor  ( 2. my first TWEET….i am on twitter now!  i tweeted on stage at blog sugar!
come follow me….  @megduerksen  i don't know how to tell you to follow me yet….i am too new!!

i was the last to go on at Blog Sugar.

i thought my heart might jump out of my chest.
i think you could see it pounding.
and i knocked my GINORMO earring out of my ear first thing….and then tried to put it back in…i got it.

i calmed down about halfway through….
i think.
i did cry.
it was sad stuff i was talking about though so that is to be expected.

i told the group about when God rocked my little blog world and showed me so clearly that He wanted me to blog for HIM and not myself…to be bold and OPEN about my faith.
it was during the Cora Playground Fundraiser.
recounting those memories was hard and definitely hard to talk about out loud.
but it was the story He wanted me to tell.

also that our blogs are a modern way of preaching on a hill like in the bible like the disciples did.
we get to speak to a crowd of people everyday.

i said "you have a plan that is unique to YOU….that God made for only YOU….created by HIM and for this……that NO ONE else can fulfill but YOU."

all the glory to God that he would take a kansas girl in sparkle shoes all the way to Cali to share the gospel.
:)

thanks julie for being an awesome host…and fabulous shopping partner…and letting me hold your baby A LOT.
thanks rachel for asking me to speak!
thanks Kimberlee for traveling with me and being my wingman and being awesome.
thanks shauna for letting me buy the same curtains as you.

janene@EverydayEO - Blog Sugar was what my soul needed. You helped to be a part of the healing. Thank you.

hannah singer - meg! thanks again for sharing part of your story with us at blog sugar. the lord used you, girl! so blessed. praise jesus. xo

tiffany m gardner - Thanks for sharing your blog sugar love. I can only imagine how many people you all blessed. I am so blessed by your blog. I read (as does everyone..I am guessing) everyday. You are a little part of my life and you didn’t even know it. Thank you for using this blog to be real, to show God’s love and power and to encourage us. Blessings..

Heidi Jo the Artist - I wish I could have been there, maybe next year!?! Glad you had an amazing time and all things went spectacularly. God sure is powerful and awesome!!
Love those sparkle shoes! I saw photos on Ruth Anne’s Photography blog–photos of you and I love the color of the blouse you picked to go with the shoes, perfect!

keri ~ forever folding laundry - Loved listening to you Sunday.
Not a single nerve gave you away!
You were poised and lovely and transparent.
It’s clear that God has a grand plan for you.
When you were speaking I was thinking
your story was so esther-like.
“For a time such as this.”
Chills.
Love your story and you.

Kristin S - So glad it went well. Answer to prayer!

Lindsay Lee - Thank you so much for sharing your amazing story! You truly touched my heart. I wish I would have come up to you to say hello! NEXT TIME 🙂

Sonya - I love your sparkly heels. I have the same ones except flats and those were my wedding shoes!! 🙂

Crystal - Your makeup looks so good! Did you do it yourself, or did you go have it done? Is it all Mac? I’d like to know details on the products, if you’re up for a post on that!!!!

shauna - um. cannot believe you posted that picture.
that’s pretty funny/awful.
good thing i like you so much.
and im glad you found the jacket in the right size.

i threw mine up last night.(not hemmed or anything)
they look….awesome!
PS. thanks for letting ME buy the same sweater as you 🙂

maureen - Any chance you have a written version of your talk that you’d consider posting? Wish I could have been there and I would love to read what you had to say!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - It was a fabulous weekend, all around. And you were one hot momma that night! Too bad we cant get drybar-red and Mac-ed every day huh?
Your topic was right on. I think far too many are afraid to blog for Christ. Yet Hes the one we should emulate at all times. Sometimes it takes heartbreak for Him to shine through us. Thanks for being vulnerable. I could see your hand shaking but honestly, Id have never known you were nervous. Your voice was very steady.
xo

Su@TheIntentionalHome - Sure would love to hear the story that you shared at Blog Sugar.
Sure would love to see what you ended up wearing with those sparkly shoes.
Be bold, my fellow blogger 🙂

Laurie - I rarely comment, but I have always loved your blog and the fact that you have no reservations about sharing your faith. So glad that you are not afraid to share the good news through your blog! What an awesome way to spread the gospel! Congrats on making it through your presentation. I’m sure you were fabulous!

kasey - YOu probably don’t remember me introducing myself…i was just all ga ga over your shoes. I was the one with the mullet and unibrow……and pleather pants.

Lori Austin - So thankful God is using you in a GREAT way through your blog. Very thankful to have found your blog….God is good.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I remember telling a friend a couple of years ago that I didn’t know why, but I just wasn’t super comfortable blogging about my faith. Say WHAT??? I meant it. I thought it was totally fine. And I swear, within a month I heard the same truth. And I’m sure all of the decoratey people who started following me back when wondered what the heck happened.
🙂
Also, your haircut rocks.

Kris - Hi Meg. I have been peeking in on your blog long before I knew anything about Blog Sugar. I went to Blog Sugar with my daughter Gennifer (who follows your blog too) and several other friends. I knew that I was going to be in the minority, being a woman who’s kids are grown, and have kids of their own. But still I was eager to go. I am so glad I did. I wanted to come say hello to you, and tell you how much your speech touched me. I could identify with so much of what you had to say. And by the way, when my kids all went back to school every Fall, I hosted a “Hooray, the kids are back in school” party every year!!! At any rate….the words you used, the tender emotion you shared, the raw truth to it all, truly struck a chord in my heart. You are obviously a very special lady. I just wanted to tell you that.
Kris

Kim - it was a treat meeting you (and hearing you speak – of course!) and your shoes WERE ridiculously high – the pictures are blurry because i was shaking so bad in them haha!
and thank you for what you shared – about sharing Cora’s story – I could relate, a lot. Some sad stuff has happened to people close to me – but not me directly – and it is such a weird thing to share that kind of stuff – but God is using it! And he used you in tremendous ways! So thank you for doing that!
and i seriously may need a trip to Claire’s for Julie’s funky glasses. I think I could rock those. 😉

bonnie - yes indeed… like sharing the gospel up on the hill. thanks for sharing your story with us sitting in the grass listening.

kristen - i loved hearing you speak at blog sugar.
your message was from your heart. i appreciated your honesty and vulnerability. your message definitely challenged me.
thank you for being willing to step out of your comfort zone and speak to us. it was a blessing to me.

Lisa - Way to go – I knew you would do great! 🙂

Teresa Marie - Love the guest bedroom! What a fabulous idea. I’m new here, a friend sent me over because she knows I’ve been pondering my purpose for blogging and suggested that your words might help. Did they ever! Glad to have found you, love your photos and you honesty.

happygirl - You spoke about God at a blog conv? You are the bravest, most authentic person. I admire you.

Kristen - I wasn’t at BlogSugar to watch you share your story. I’m pretty sure you have never even heard of myself let alone my blog. But I visit your “Whatever” world atleast daily because you’re inspiring in everything that you do. Even through the simplicity of being blah (in reference to your vlog you did just shortly ago), it’s shows that even those that have it together can sometimes…not. So thank you. I’m praying that the next time you speak at a conference I’ll be able to sit in the crowd to listen and that maybe, fingers crossed, I’ll be able to make the list for Craft Week next year.

Kerry - Megs on Twitter. Whoop whoop! Megs on Twitter. Whoop whoop!!

Holly - You touched each and every heart on Sunday. The tears, the earring fiasco, the sparkle shoes, I keep hearing your voice in my head when you were telling us that at one point you believed you were “Awesome!” in that cute little sing song voice of yours. So glad I didn’t have to burp for you like i said I would, thank you for doing something that was way out of your comfort zone. It was amazing!

Rags to Stitches - Meg it was SO great hearing you speak!! I loved it!! I’m totally not that mom either. hahaha My heart is full and I’m inspired after a weekend spending time with you and so many other amazing women bloggers!!
Hope you and your new Laptop Snuggie had a safe trip home!
xoxo
Alissa

Meagan - Meg, thank you SO, SO much for speaking at Blog Sugar. You spoke right to my heart and I love you for that. It was so awesome meeting and chatting with you. Hope to see you in January! 😉 Maybe I can teach you how to make a ‘hoot’.

Emily - So glad I got to meet you and spend the weekend getting to know you 🙂
You in general and your message really encouraged me. I have had a hard time sharing Jesus through my blog and feel like I can more effectively and honestly now.
Love you and thank you for sharing your heart with us!

deb - you were fabulous….I loved your shoes, and your hair!!!!!!!
I was probably the oldest one there but I loved every minute of it!!!!!!

denise@victory rd. - great pix, even without your fancy camera.
your message was authentic and approachable.
i am going to be more intentional about this hill and the crowd God has me speaking too. i’m going to stop thinking i’m incapable and realize the Spirit is capable through me. i’m going to. i mean it. i am.

Gina f. - Go, Meg, go…. You are awesome!!

Juli - AMEN SISTER, preach it! 😉 I don’t blog but it is an awesome way for God to work through us women who were, previously, voiceless & so completely occupied with Mommyhood. You go, girl!

robin - your trip sounds awesome…
i have a question for you…
the wall art (quotes) that i see in the background of your pics (like in the guest room and where you’re holding the sweet baby… how do you make those, do you know??? someone told me to make them on picasa…but i have no idea how to do that…. please help 🙂

Melissa Bolton - 1. I would like to “like” Kimberlee’s comment for talking about urinals.
2. Meg, you are so beautiful! Sounds like it was an amazing trip. I hope you’re getting some time to recoup after a super-fun month!
3. Do those sunglasses have a moustache dangling from them?? GENIUS!

Kimberly Dial - How awesome is it that you had such an amazing time with some amazing women? Pretty awesome … ain’t that just like our God? YEP! Glad you’re back … I’ve missed you! 🙂

Kimberly Dial - How awesome is it that you had such an amazing time with some amazing women? Pretty awesome … ain’t that just like our God? YEP! Glad you’re back … I’ve missed you! 🙂

becky - i have meetings in LA a lot (almost three hours from my house) and i have dreamed about just hitting the road and hitting the dry bar when i get there. sigh. someday. and i heard it was only $20 bucks – which is cheap when you need to look all professional and together after a 3 hour drive – after getting up at 4 in the morning.
glad you had fun. from a fifth generation californian – it’s an amazing place and we hope you come back.

laura panfilio - loved your talk at blog sugar…so glad to hear your words of encouragement and your story in person…and though i only met you briefly in person, I’m glad i will continue to get to know you on your blog…keep doing what your doing…xoxo *laura*

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - You rock my socks.

Debby Graber - Cool Meg!! This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, right? What an inspiration you are to me!

No.17 - God used you.
My heart is full.

Tammy - You were completely amazing! Thank you so much for coming and talking to us!

Amy J. - Amen, Sister! 🙂 … if it’s not for Him, what’s the point, right? All else is futile. Glad you and Kim got to go!

Gina - Welcome back! You were missed:) Can’t wait to here more and more about your amazing weekend…you are an inspiration to all of us!

Kimberlee Jost - That might be my favorite picture of us together…urinals and all.

Mindy Harris - you looked like a million bucks at blogsugar. your beautiful heart matches your outward beauty, and i know you pulled on some heartstrings. there’s going to be a wave, in blogging, of letting go of “stuff” and selfishness and a move toward writing about what God wants us to write about. thank you for being our ringleader. thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your heart.
i may be stoned for saying this, but i was glad to get home to the gorgeous kansas weather…none of that fog. 🙂

Paula @ Simply Sandwich - I was at Blog Sugar 11 and I have to say your words touched me so much! I have been processing what you shared with us and so wish I had connected with you on Sunday. And BTW LOVE the shoes! 🙂

Laura Phelps - it is late
nick has been out of town for two weeks
i am too tired to read your words tonight
but i will tomorrow
i am glad you are back
i am still jealous you went
and i am happy you are home
and i miss you

Cindy@Crayon Wishes and Popsicle Dreams - Would love to have been there. But since I wasn’t 🙁 would love to hear more 🙂 Thanks for the beautiful reminder! I decided in the beginning that I would blog as long as God was in it. And that’s something I don’t ever want to forget!

leslie @ topofthepage - um hold it. if you got the same curtains as shauna did from ikea, i have em too. love them. my husband, sadly, does not. for the last 4 years. it was great to play in the OC this weekend with you. thanks for comin to our hood.

mel @ the larson lingo - Meg, you are great. So fun spending the weekend with you!
You are even more awesome in person. Thank you for sharing your heart & soul with us at Blog Sugar. Your speech was straight from the heart and I loved it. Thank you for your honesty & vulnerability and for encouraging us to be better bloggers for the Glory of God!

Genn - Hi Meg!
I wish I introduced myself to you at Blog Sugar!!
You looked beautiful. (and I think we had on the same black jacket? LC from Kohl’s? yes? maybe?)
I absolutely loved hearing you speak. You did great. You were so real and I think that is why so many people love you so much. You are so relatable. I left with such a happy heart and a renewed purpose for why i blog. thank you for that.

Candice - It was such a pleasure to be at Blog Sugar and to hear you speak! You definitely rocked it!!! 🙂

Valerie @ Chateau A la Mode - Meg, thank you for speaking at Blog Sugar…you were super amazing. You made me want to be a better blogger and a blogger that remembers to blog for God’s good. I started my blog wanting God to lead the way and sometimes I forget that. Thanks for the reminder. You are awesome and so are your sparkly shoes 🙂
P.S. I introduced myself to you. I’m sure you thougt I was a dork, because I know I was. I got all giddy to meet you and then I didn’t know what to say so I talked about your shoes. I’m not really that goofy, well, usually.
Hugs,
Valerie

Karen Gerstenberger - Glad to hear you had a great time…welcome home!

Rach - Welcome to twitter. 🙂 I tweet too. @Rottenstinker

Jacci - sister. i like you. solo deo gloria.

Elizabeth - What a wonderful weekend!! I love the verse artwork in Julie’s guest room……..any idea where she got it?

Heather G. - Meg – what you said was awesome. I loved getting to spend time with you and get to know you a bit this weekend. Thanks for letting me buy the same shirt as you at Old Navy, by the way.

heather - so happy i got to hug you.
you are a delight.

Selina - But what did you wear with those shoes??
(I’m glad you made it through!)

Holly - SO glad you had so much fun! I am going to check out your twitter now!

Robin - I got a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye reading this. I love the way God works. He is reaching the masses through fabulous blogs like yours. Keep shining your light, Meg.

seriouslysassymama - I hope you know how awesome you are!

Michelle Torres - WoW!!!!!! This is so amazing to hear right now, because for awhile now I have been feeling lead to start my own blog, and I knew that thru having a blog and sharing many stories of my life and where God has brought me and my family, and keeping much Faith no matter what come our way that really there is so much to share with the world, and I am praying about this, and have already had several people tell me that I should start my own blog for other reasons as how I love decorating, baking, and taking care of my four Beautiful daughter’s, that is fine but I feel I could help someone out there that feels like they are ready to give up and that nobody cares! Thank you for sharing this, and It is so awesome that you were able to have so much fun and more importantly you talked about God!

jen - Super AWESOME… Looks like a wonderful was had by all!

my dress….

you girls are funny.
i didn't think of sourcing my date night clothes…..what was i thinking?

IMG_9595-1

the dress is from the dress barn   (moo.)
(please tell me why anyone would name a women's clothing store the dress BARN????)
i checked the website and it's not there….i got in may.
the cardi is from target of course….also in may.

the flower is from made4adoption.
YOU NEED ONE….or four.
and she needs you to get some….she's adopting and her etsy sales go to her adoption fund!
(she is going on vacation without internet soon so be patient if you have a question for her. )
IMG_9645-1

and the hot mama shoes are from PAYLESS!
🙂

and we almost had an emergency that night when i couldn't find my spanx!
i might have cancelled the whole date if i didn't have those.
they are THAT important to me.
i have had five babies living in this body don't forget.

the maxi dress i was wearing in the video (previous post) is from CATO fashions.
they don't have online shopping.
and like dress barn being that it's VERY hit or miss…..but that dress had my name on it.
IMG_9651-1

it had ties at the neck but i sewed them back as straps instead….since we don't let our daughters wear strapless dresses i figured it wouldn't be too cool for me to go to a party with them….in a strapless dress!  ha.

someone asked how tall i am.
i am 5' 7".   the heels make me very tall but i like that…..my husband is tall.
and he likes the heels so i love the heels.
if he was short….i'd wear heels for GIRLS NIGHT!

Ali left this comment:
Okay, you look sassy and ready for your big date!  I don't know how you manage to go shopping for clothes with your kids!  Please give me tips!  I've gone a little frumpy these days ( I have 3 kids) tell me how to juggle date nights and cute clothes! I want to be a cute Momma too! 🙂

ok ali….i had to think about it….

#1 – i don't take my kids shopping with me most of the time.
i do enjoy shopping though…i don't know how you women that hate going shopping ever find
       anything to wear!!!
when i used to have to take my kids shopping i gave them lots of candy.
       suckers and smarties.
it keeps them happy and quiet and me productive.

#2 – i usually pick one store because i don't have shopping DAYS i have an hour here or there.
i usually shop at Target, Old Navy, Dress Barn and CATO…..because they are easy and affordable.

#3 – i try on EVERYTHING i even remotely like.
that way i usually find something that fits and is cute.
sometimes things are really cute even if they aren't so much on the hanger.
i try on like 20+ items.

#4 – i just get one or two things usually.
one piece at a time….i have never bought a "summer wardrobe"

#5 – know your own body….use the body slimming products out there….if you think you'd need them.
they are awesome…makes a really REALLY big difference….sometimes a whole size!

……………………..don't settle for frumpy………………………………………..

tell yourself that YOU need some time for YOU and find that PRETTY girl again.

it is important as a woman and as a mom and as a wife.

it's not about how much money you spend.
it's not about labels (hello….dress barn and payless???)

taking time for you will help you feel GOOD about yourself.

moms need to feel pretty too.
WE DO!!!

and when i feel frumpy….i don't feel confident…or pretty…..

i am not saying to go shopping every day.
or to run away and look out for only you.

but take a little time out for you even if it's once a month.
to remember that you are more than a mom.
some way.
some how.
if YOU don't do it…..NO ONE will do it for you.

go one night when your husband is home from work and stay out till the stores close….and then go to B&N and read till they close too!

go with a friend and both try on everything!

go with a friend and have her be your style consultant!

take time for you or you may end up with a track suit in every color
and MOM jeans before you know it.

your husband will quickly realize you are a happier woman if you've had some time away from crazies at home….if he is supportive of that….it's a win-win…. and dont let him call/text you every ten minutes either 🙂
i've been known to turn off my phone….to be really OFF the clock from home.

AND GO ON A DATE!!!

get a sitter and GO.
eat dinner where they serve you….not ordering at a counter…but if that's all you can get….TAKE IT!!!
get REAL yummy grown up food.
get a drink if you can't stop thinking about the kids or if you feel crabby or distracted or mad.
trust me….i KNOW.
about hour into our dates i always think
"WHY don't we do this every week?!!! i love this guy so much and i NEED time with HIM"

PRIORITY.

you
and him.
do it.

🙂 goodness that was a loooooong wordy post!
can you tell i am passionate about moms not losing who they are?

i became a motivational speaker for a minute……
at least i didn't say "i live in a van down by the river!!!"
i'm going to quickly hit publish before i decide to delete this whole post.

do you have girls any other questions?

lets hear them!

clothing store - This blog is great! My mom would be so happy to read and get advice on how to dress. She’s not the most fashionable person at all. My favorite thing was the shoes I would rock the shoes.

auntie bliss - I am 49 and want to say AMEN~ no excuse for being frumpy!
You reminded me of when…ten years ago…I had my two year
old in his stroller in a dressing room w/me and LOL and good
grief…he was eating bacon and eggs that we brought with us!

christi - great “rant!” i gave this pep talk to a girlfriend the other day {even though i don’t have kids, but i work at home and the pep talk is just as necessary for a wife that works at home!}. anyhow … i told her that i order a bunch of things online and try them on at home. i always only keep a few things, but i really dislike dressing rooms and the crowds at stores. forever21 has a great selection of tops, loft {ann taylor loft} always has tons on sale {50% off all tops right now online}, old navy/gap always have good sales. makes finding clothes so much easier – plus i can see if i like a certain top with a bottom i already own!

Julia - What a great post. you are so right! and you looked beautiful by the way. I love it that you are REAL. that’s my favorite part about following your blog! I have really enjoyed following you- this is the first comment I’ve left even though I’ve been following you for probably a year. I enjoy all your crafts, projects, and your cooking stuff too! Thx!

flor - what a wonderful reminder for us moms! its so easy to lose ourselves once we become parents.. our ENTIRE day is devoted to everything house and kids related that by the time they go to sleep we are pooped and have no energy! I’ve been in a fashion funk this year and I’m still figuring out my new “style” (I came to the realization that Forever 21 should NOT be my main source for clothes.) thanks so much for this wonderful post!

Carly - So true! I always feel so much better when I take the time to put together a cute outfit (which is NOT easy at 9 weeks post partum right now!!). Thanks for the tips on shopping. With two little ones under 2 I can look at about 3 things tops at Target before it starts to fall apart. I need to get out on my own to get a few cute things! Thanks for your great words to all of us!

steph - oh, i’m so passionate about this too.
always telling women to make time for themselves…
to not lose their identities in their children.
to make sure they’re spending quality time with the hubby.
sigh… do i take my own advice?!
nope… usually not.
oh well… but i’ll keep trying and keep telling others to take care of themselves.
love this post!
you are beautiful, inside and out!
xo

Ali - Also thanks for the tip about spanx’s I’m going to make that my NUMBER 1 goal for July!
Must find some for spanx’s for my mommy tummy! 🙂
~ Ali

Ali - Thanks Meg for the great suggestions! I’m going to try squeezing in a quick hour of shopping tomorrow morning when my 2 big kids are at morning camps! Then I’ll load my pockets with little candies for Jack (2) and try on a ton of things! I’ll head to the Dress Barn and then later in the week hit a few of the other affordable stores you mentioned! 🙂 I can’t wait to start looking cute! 🙂 I love that you get a new dress here and there and don’t buy a whole summer wardrobe! That is real life and actually seems more do able time wise and money wise! Forever, your grateful Mommy friend ~ Ali (36 years, wife of 10 years and Mom to kids ages 7, 4, 2)!
Okay, as far as questions I agree with a previous posters that asked about how to add color to her home without making it look like her 4 year old daughter decorated! My house is so vanilla colored (most everything is neutral colored) and my personality is more rainbows but, I want my home to look grown up and stylish even as I add color! How do you style your home with color?
Oh one last thing…I love that butterfly canvas art project you did! My daughter, Ava Grace (4) made one too last week! So fun! This week we my 3 kids and I painted bird houses from JoAnn’s! We’re having fun doing art projects together thanks to you!
Love ya!
~ Ali

melissa erin - love.love.loved this post. i am overdue with my 5th baby now…and can’t wait to shrink a little bit, and buy me some new clothes, with shrinkage undergarmets, and turn some focus on my man 🙂 thanks for the pep talk. 🙂

Tiffany - Let the church say….AMEN….here is a favorite quote of mine, I borrowed it from Deion Sanders (Dallas Cowboys)….. If u look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you play good, if you play good, they pay good. {And pay is relative} it could mean a myriad of things, but it’s simple, TRUE and I luv it. Cheers!

Laura Phelps - It has taken me some time to get my “look” back…is IS hard with kids…
I too try on EVERYTHING
and if I have my kids, I let them CHOOSE things for me to try on
Annie ALWAYS picks the BEST things for me! too funny
my tip, since no one asked…(ha)
ALWAYS wear SOME piece of jewelry that is ME…
bracelet, earrings, anything…something that expressed who I am, even when I have no idea who that even is anymore!
and yes to date night
saves a marriage
I speak from personal experience 🙂

erlfisher - Thank goodness you did hit “publish” because it’s something we all need to hear! Mommies push themselves aside to take care of everyone else so often – and it’s nice to hear that there are others who struggle with this as well. I am going to schedule a date with my husband straight away!!

Jen - Meg, this was such a GREAT post and exactly what I needed to read today. It’s so easy to be the last priority when you’re married with kids, but it is so important to care for ourselves! And I feel the exact same way on date nights, I love this guy, why don’t I do this more often?! Thank you for inspiring me to take more time!

Mindy Harris - oh i meant to say “it saddens me to hear that some of my friends have NOT been on a date in months…”

Mindy Harris - we have the exact same frame of mind, meg. it saddens me to hear that some of my friends have been on a date in months, or even years. shawn and i just returned from our 8-yr anniv celebration–a weekend in ks city where we could shop and eat til our heart’s content.
and i just bought a dress for it (and a wedding), too!
the brand?
stop staring!
(seriously)
love your heart. love the voice you are/have for women. i’m SO THERE with you.

jill - I just ‘heart’ you! No clue how I ever stumbled across this blog. Glad I did!

becky - meg! thanks SO much for this TIMELY post! what do you suggest for mommies of itty bitties who are COVERED with spit up, baby food, cheerios in their hair, {and other things…} but still want to look hot for their man when he gets home from his “grown up job”? i just find it hard to get motivated when i know my clean self will last for exactly 2 seconds!!!! LOVE your sense of humor!!!!!

Jessie - I love your personality, you seem great with people. Did you ever used to have a job that you went to everyday? Or do you think you will ever take a full time job (besides mom) or maybe open a studio some day??

Sandy - Thanks for answering my question about how tall you are. Makes me feel like I got your autograph or something!! 🙂
Great post and great tips. Thanks for everything you do…as a wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, christian, & blogger. You’re the best.

beth - Oh, I am SO glad you hit publish!! You’re so right–how easy it is forget that we are *women* and *wives*, not just a mom. I love being a mom, but if I don’t get up, fix my hair, throw on some make up, and actually get dressed for the day….I honestly feel yucky. And, how can I be happy and feel yucky at the same time?
Thank you for sharing such wise words! It was a great reminder to me, and I really hope it hit home with some moms out there who need encouragement in their womanhood!
beth

Ashley c - We are having our 6th this fall…and date night has become so important…there are days that go by that we feel like two people living together in this little house with a hoard of kiddos…and then we take a few minutes and we like,” oh yeah, I know who you are. I love you so much and wow, you are still the same person I feel in love with…” We hate the circle, but gosh those moments totally rock! Thank you for the reminder!!!

Leah - You inspired me, Meg! I went down the street to my local Dress Barn, which I’ve never shopped in before. And I found two pairs of flattering slacks and three tops! And the tummy slimming feature — AWESOME! It feels great to have a few new nice things to wear now. Thanks for the Dress Barn tip! Can’t wait to go again (but I have to after what I spent today).

Bobbie - I bought a dress last night at Macy’s and paid more than I normally would. I’m glad I bought it since I didn’t have any dresses to wear right now but I also realized that I’m not fancy and I’m not frumpy. I’m simple and plain and I like it. My husband loves my simple ways. He didn’t like the dress and I got the biggest comment when I came home and put on my jeans and plain tshirt. Sometimes I wish I dressed fancier or remembered jewelry but really I’m happiest when I am just me. I do think you looked super foxy on your date. 🙂

Kristin S - Oh, Meg, please post more run-on posts. This is one I would have hit delete before publish and I’m so glad you didn’t!
I agree with so much that you said and I’m not even married or a mom. So many friends fit that category of heading down frump-road and I try to help rescue before they get too far. One major thing is taking them bra shopping! I love it.
Love your soap box. Keep em coming.

Erin Whitney - Okay, here’s a question. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the colors in your house. I’ve tried to incorporate more colors into our apartment (in the process of buying a house, so I’m obviously stuck on decorating right now) but everytime I try to color the place up, I feel like my 4 year old decorated instead of me. What’s your advice on making our living space color-friendly without looking like a mess of primary colors?

Lisa H. - It took us several years to prioritize a weekly date night, but now we rarely miss it. (And we still have kids that need to be babysat, but now we have built-in babysitters.) Tomorrow is our 29th anniversary!

Kerry - I soooooooooooo needed this Meg!! had a date night on Monday night, which i’d bought a cute dress for, put the dress on – looked HUGE – couldnt find my granny panties, so i threw a complete strop and threw EVERYTHING out my cupboard in a fit of rage. (its still there….whoops) im going shopping for ONE hour TOMORROW. thanks Meg – you totally rock 🙂 xx

Laine Chambers - Awesome post. You totally hit the nail on the head. It is SO important to look good for your hubby. And to spend time with him, without kids!! I’m preggo with #4 right now and try really, really hard to never look like the “frumpy pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen” lady. And another thing I’ve learned…when your hubby tells you that you’re beautiful, just believe it!
I love your blog and am so glad I found it. =)
My question: With five kids and a blog, do you have a strict schedule for yourself and your home? What all do your children help with?

amie - p.s. — i very much miss all the aforementioned stores. boo. 🙁

amie - Meg. Meg….you are a delight. All the way to Germany, your rainbow-self brightens my day. Every time. 🙂 And oh, I’ve lived in a van — down by the river…but only for a week. It didn’t make me manic — but I think it did my husband. 🙂

Short, Sweet Season - 1) I wish you were my next door neighbor because you are THAT MUCH FUN. 2) You said to ask, so: Did you and your husband make a dedicated commitment to you being largely a work from home/stay at home mom (I know you also have a photography business), or did it just happen to work out that way? Were there times when it seemed like you might have to work outside the home, and if so, how did you make it work?

jill - thank you for this post! i needed this! (actually, you might want to keep repeating this info to us because we are moms and will get busy with our kids and forget everything you said in about five minutes. ha!) you are too cute!

Toni :O) - I love you and I love this post…thanks for making me force myself to be a priority and start loving myself again. You are so awesome, I wish I lived next door to you, I think we’d have tons of fun!

Toni :O) - I love you and I love this post…thanks for making me force myself to be a priority and start loving myself again. You are so awesome, I wish I lived next door to you, I think we’d have tons of fun!

momma of 4 - I like it.

Sarah - Amen Sister!

Lindsey@ Piecefully Home - so true…as much as we don’t like to admit it, men are wired as visual creatures. that’s how god made them. my husband appreciates it when i take the time to look nice. i had three babies, two of which were huge! it took a toll on my body and now i have a nice large diastasis recti that makes me look permanently 5 months prego, but my husband thinks i’m beautiful! but i can’t let that big mummy tummy keep me out of pretty clothes just because i don’t look like i did when we were first married. it’s not about having the perfect body, it’s about taking pride in ourselves.
no husband wants to be greeted everyday by a wife in dirty smelly sweats, no child wants to have their mama pick them up from the bus stop looking like she rolled out of bed in the afternoon. when i look nice it shows my family that i care about myself and that i care enough about them. if i was going to meet someone famous i’d look nice…so how much more important are my family? ok, i’ll step off my soapbox for now…

Amy Lynne - You ROCK! Thank you!

Jenna - I can’t wait until this baby comes out so I can start wearing my clothes again! I think that in itself is going to make me feel less frumpy!
Jenna

Heather Crawford - AMEN to the Spanx..I won’t wear a dress without them 🙂
and yes, working on not sinking into frumpiness…
and what someone else said..still dressing cute and all even if I’m not my ideal weight right now!!! Took a long time to get over that..

elma - Oh I just love your dress:) Well after eight kids my body will never look good:( I wish there was nice clothes for the bigger gal!!!

georgia - No questions from me, but you look amazing for a mum who had 5 kids! I’m forever trying to make my mum find time to buy nice clothes, on the cheap of course! But she rarly gives in an tries to buy me stuff instead, I practically have to throw clothes at her and make her try them on LOL

Yolanda - love this post! my fave part of your date night ensemble were your shoes! i do have a question. i don’t know much about sewing so i’m curious how you went about sewing the straps onto the back of that maxi dress? did you have to measure carefully? how did you sew it so that it would be secure? i would be horrified if the straps broke off and the top fell down. thanks for any tips!

Jenny B. - Thank you, thank you, thank you! I needed to hear that. All of it. 🙂

Amy Slavik@ Little For A Little While - Aww, thanks for the words of encouragement! My honey and I went on a date tonight…only our second time since having baby #2 in February. It was be so worrisome to leave an infant, but man, did we have a great time out!! Cheers!

Michelle - Oh, Meg! how I love to read your blog! you are awesome!!! you looked adorable for your date night!
Two questions for ya: tell me about your silver bracelets you are wearing. They are beautiful!! Also, what spanx are you talking about? I am a mother of three and 41 years old, any helpful tips, I am ready to hear it!
p.s. my daughter and I made the pumpkin choc. chip cookies and the Pizza Pretzels. yum to both! Thanks for your blog! It is a joy to read!

Holly - so promise me that if we ever meet you will leave your heals at home and I will wear mine. I am at least a head shorter than you!ha! I do love a good pair of “big girl” shoes. and I love payless. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE forever 21…..even though I am in my 30s…who cares, right?

Oberheu.wordpress.com - I love dress barn too…and think it’s a horrible name for a store. Makes me hesitate to tell people that’s where I got something:). And I love Angie’s “one different thing” idea! I’ve been doing this for a while. I have also found that if I shop often for quick trips I do better. A quick stop while running errands can really pan out. And the more I stop the more opportunity to find something great at an awesome price!

Angie - I used to hate shopping…several things changed that and now I kind of enjoy it, but the best advice I ever got was from my mom (also a woman who doesn’t like shopping)…
…try on one thing you wouldn’t normally pick out for yourself. Every time I go shopping I try on one item I wouldn’t normally buy. Some of them a great, some of them are awful. Some of my favorite clothes are the one “different” thing I picked out to try on.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - My family wants to know why I’m laughing out loud while I’m on the computer…I’m laughing because I’m a mom and I 100% AGREE with you. You go girl and tell the mommies out there how important it is to remember who WE are too! P.S. You did look way cute and sassy.

Lisa - Yes, yes and yes!! Great post. I think I am starting to embrace my “I’ve had 4 kids body” and may have to invest in some body slimming stuff instead of feeling horrible trying to lose the weight and constantly failing! 🙂

Michelle - your blog makes me giggle and smile!

Michele - You look great! Thanks for sharing all of this. Sometimes blogging just gives me a bad case of the wants when I see someone in something cute, then I realize that it cost a small fortune. It’s not all about labels–I’m not living in NYC or LA. I live in the middle of nowhere in TX. No one cares who the designer is! It’s more about feeling confident and good about yourself. I appreciate the realness of what you shared. The spanx part had me rolling!

julia - you rock BABE!

BriBedell - Amen!!

Suzanne - Everyday life goes by so fast that I DO forget that I am still a hot momma and my husband is still my hottie man! We didn’t go out this evening but, we did grill a few steaks and put on some good music and just chat it up…who knows where this will lead(wink)!
p.s. heading to Payless tomorrow!

sara's art house - Love the outfit! Now I need to go get some spanx! 🙂

Kat - *Nods* as a Mum of 4 this is so so so true!
Wise words indeed, although it is tricky getting a babysiter at times, which is probably why we only just went on a date last weekend for the first time in 6 months!!!
We saw Bridesmaids and my Hubby also thought it was hilarious!
Loved that movie.

Nina - I love this Meg! I’ve totally been on a journey to rediscover myself and my style as a mom. It’s actually turned my blog into a style blog. I would love to talk to you about sharing this message…I know so many women need to hear this!
http://www.mommagoround.com
mommagoround@gmail.com

Alicia @ la famille - I looooove this post! Thanks for giving us all the go ahead to do something for ourselves. Sometimes mamas feel so guilty after we take time for US! and me and my banker went on a date last night. First date in forever! It was so nice 🙂

hershey's moma {amy} - Okay, the mom jeans link… hilarious, just that. 🙂

tara - i love this post.
i wear yoga pants and tshirts or excercise clothes all day most days bc I work out first thing every morning….BUT, I have a closet full of cute clothes that make me feel great about myself, and I wear them anytime and every chance I get. ESPECIALLY on HOT dates with my man!

Monica - Great Chris Farley reference!! 🙂

colleen from Alabama - ps. how do you know what size to buy?

colleen from Alabama - I just turned 46 TODAY! I got married at 32,first baby at 35 and second at 37… the body is now showing some wear and tear AND i now have a muffin top! PLEEEAAASSEE help me! What spanx item will make this puff go away while not making my thighs look huge! 🙂 I’m not a big girl – size 6/8 but the muffin top is killin me!

Courtney Hohimer - Today, I was at our MOPS retreat planning for our coming year and we were talking about our blog friends – women out there in blog land who our lives aren’t complete if we haven’t looked at their site that day, even if there isn’t anything new. You were totally on my list, you and Julie (Joy’s Hope) and Dana (Made), that was my list. The three of you are so super awesome, and I love how REAL you and Julie are (yes, I call you by name, I hope that doesn’t creep you out). This post right here, is exactly why!! I wish wish wish that you could come to San Antonio, just to speak at our MOPS meeting about this very thing (or one of the hundred other reasons why I think you’re a totally awesome person and so very real and authentic).
Anyway, I just wanted to say a quick, thanks for being in the business of being an awesome, real, and authentic picture of a Godly woman, wife and mom! Seriously, you’re an inspiration and your blog is always a bright spot in my day. 🙂

mary - guess I should proof my comment next time! wow, look at all those typos. Maybe I need spanx and typing lessons.

Kimberlee - I love this post…
Except for the fact that I’m home with two kids on this Saturday night while my man is working and now I wish I were on a date…or shopping. 🙂

mary - So maybe tis is too personal be I have never worn spanx and and about to have baby number three. I think I am about due for some. After the birth of course. What product is you must have?

Sabrina - Thank you for posting this because I needed to hear it! I just had my first child 2 months ago and i am feeling so very frumpy. 🙁 This coming from the girl who was voted Most Likely to Make a Fashion Statement in High School! Thankfully my husband is so supportive of me getting out of the house, dressing up and having some time… but i feel so very guilty for wanted to leave and get away. I love being a wife and mother (especially since I had to wait until my mid 30s to get it) But I need to get over the guilt and take time for me too.

Denissa - Amen to everything!! I too have realized just in the last year how important date nights and alone time are. Up until recently my husband & I had never gone on date nights, and my oldest is almost 10!

Chrissie grace - I have to remind myself that I deserve to feel pretty and pampered too!
Thanks for validating that!
xo

Quinn - Very cute! I have one question I have always wondered… do your kids/husband read your blog?!
And also, am I the only one that has YouTube as an icon for your page? Strange…

Kristin - This is all so true and good to be reminded of! I have a 7 month old and just went on my first date with my hubby since he was born because I breastfeed. It was wonderful! And I totally agree on getting dressed so you don’t feel frumpy. But I also have one kid so it’s ,uch easier for me currently. Love your blog by the way.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Oh, I like you on a soapbox. And I like your hair. Very much. And your dress! It’s dumb that people shop at expensive stores when there’s stuff as cute as that in a strip mall. Moo. I have never shopped at Dress Barn. But now I might. I hope they send you a royalties check.
You know what I would love? To rock a double date with you and your C and my C.
Oh my word – what if we were awkward?
bye.

happygirl - Wow, you are right. You dress cute, too. I was told I dress like a Deatheater (ala Harry Potter). All black from head to toe. I don’t know why. I guess it suits me. 🙂 *blacksmoke*

Amanda - amen sister!
thanks for the motivational speech. i needed that!

Sara Torbett - Love your blog! I am a new mom and needed this reminder, already :). I read your blog often and enjoy seeing a mom who has their own personality and interests, plus is a great mom. I want that. 🙂

Kim - I could not agree more.
We have a schedule in our house: Wednesday night is MY night, Thursday is my husband’s, and Friday is OUR night. We usually stay home and celebrate after the kids are in bed – it doesn’t matter – we are dedicating time to each other.
I love my life.

Blissfulblooms.blogspot.com - Preach it SISTAH!! I have four kids and the oldest is 7- I am just now learning how important mommy time is. It doesn’t take a lot of moola, just a little time. I just read a quote off a blog (sorry- can’t remember which one-ugh) “She decided to become the person she always imagined.” Amen and amen! YOU are such a blessing and I see a future for you of motivational speaking! Come to MT and I’ll pack our church for you! Blessings!

Carrie - I HEART Cato!!!!!!! 🙂

Ashley - Thanks so much for this! My third baby is seven months now and I have been in the “when I lose all the baby weight” stage for way too long! I’m tired of feeling frumpy and ready to look confident and stylish again, no matter the size! Thanks for the reminder!

amanda - Just fyi. Your outfit is ADORABLE. I absolutely love it. Love love love. Will def be buying a flower.

heather - i just love you and your passion for not letting us wear mom jeans.

Val - agree w/ all said…you are just cute. 🙂

evan - meg! ditto everything you said in this post! my neighbor kept my kids yesterday and i spent the whole afternoon shopping. i got to take my time at barnes & noble looking at hairstyle magazines for like an hour! i came home a whole different person. it really helps me to feel like me again.
and date nights are a MUST! i like that our kids see that we go on dates. they need to know their parents are still in LOVE! 🙂

nothing.

i got nothing for you today.

i am……..tired?
worn down may be a better choice of words.

the four kids at home have lessons or camps this week.
i am in the car like….hours a day.

lame.

but i have been working out during lessons.
so at least i have done that.

but there has been A LOT of fighting and whining and crying and screaming here too.
99% not by me….but i have had my 1%.
that kind of stuff is EXHAUSTING…..always thinking "how do i handle this?" "what do i do now?"
ugh.

i can NOT wait for vacation.
i wish it was today.
i want to be away from all these activities.
but yet i love the activities that keep them busy and teach them.

i think i just need more sleep?

crawling back into bed sounds really good.
but i can't.
i have to get to swim lessons and basketball camp and sams club for groceries and joann's for cake decorations and target for one last birthday gift and find a sitter for my husband's work dinner date tonight that he just told me about five minutes ago and the car is out of gas.

tomorrow will be better.
it will be.

enjoy these completely unrelated and happy (not whiney) pictures today.

Crystal - My girls have fussed and complained more this week than all summer put together! I shipped them to my mom’s for a day just to get a break, so I feel your pain! 🙂

Logan - Well, all I know is that they are adorable!!!

Jessica - Nothing? I think not…those bright cool pics of the water tubes are pretty great.

karen - i love the colours in those pics!!!

leonieke - at least you have sun! here there’s stormy weather, lots of rain. the kids are watching a dvd, with a hot cup of tea, and i’m wondering if it’s ever gonna be summer here in the netherlands,…one week to go until all my kids are free from school.. it’s strange to act like it’s fall in the middle of the summer..

Margaret - Oh, I sometimes find myself wishing for the day when my three year old can make his own pb&j’s and not try to wedge himself between me and the hubs in the middle of the night. I always think I will be alot less rested when this time comes, but i know that I’ll be just as exhausted playing chauffeur and referee. Wishing you good, stress-free days between now and your vacation!

Heather Crawford - I feel your pain….

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Hope your feeling better soon! I hate days like that.
Pure Stress!
Love Gemma x

Maria - I am there with you…in addition to swim team craziness, taekwondo whiny-ness, we all have VBS this week, and I’m in crafts every day…can’t even think straight and finally crammed in a workout tonight…
Longest week ever.
Much needed retail therapy to come on Friday…

andrea - Ugh! My thoughts exactly! I love that they have stuff to do because it gives me a break and lets them see other people. BUT they sure are crabby! I guess it is because they try to cram their normal summer day into the time that they are here which exhausts them enough as it is.
My kids spend A LOT of time in our pool too! We didn’t get it up until about two weeks ago and I was ready to leave. By myself. Done with it. The, as I say “whining, griping and complaining”!

Amy Slavik - Love your kids’ facial expressions! Hope you got it all done today, and that you get some restful sleep tonight!

Joy - That Annie tickles my funnybone!
I may getting a bit whiney myself. Summer throws life into a whole different level of stress. We do away with one thing and replace it with three more.
Still, I do NOT want it to end.

Courtney Walsh - my gosh. is it in the water? same here. last week our baseball and dance were on hiatus and it was kind of awesome…but i’m with you on the loving them learning thing. ugh. it’s a catch-22!!!
at least you’re working out. i am definitely not doing that.

Southern Gal - Working out? Good for you. My mom wasn’t above making us kiss and make up. Stay cool.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hmmmm…wish I could say whining gets better with age, but it doesn’t and I know it’s more of a head game isn’t it? Always trying to be Dr. Phil and Father Albert and What Would Jesus Do all in one person. Being a mom is just plain old hard. I do have a random question for you….do you keep your camera attached at your hip 24/7? You must with all the great pics you get. Love you and your blog. Happy summer!
P.S. Can’t wait for Blog Sugar. I just signed up for my seminars. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say (not to make you nervous or anything 🙂 You’ll be great!

Elizabeth Horn - I have four kids at home this summer, too and it is exhausting. I started out optimistic, thinking I would be so organized and fun, but instead I feel like the break is rushing past and the house is a disaster. I think I have given up on keeping it clean. Maybe when school starts?

amy jupin - to say i can relate is an understatement.
josh has been gone for two days. after being home 5 minutes, he has a major breakdown and was sent to his room.
parenting is HARD.
why don’t they understand that i would LOVE to give them soda and candy for breakfast and let them watch tv all day long??!!
i would!
but that’s not being a good parent!
work with me PEOPLE!
hahahaha

Tracy Fisher - It’s summer. We are moms. We can whine. If you lived closer, and you weren’t going to a party, I’d invite you over to try my new cheese ball recipe… and I’d even pour you a little glass of wine. Tracy Fisher

debbie - Hi Meg,
It seems hard while you’re going through it, but you will miss it when they are grown and gone 🙂
I love the pics, and I love seeing snippets of your neighborhood in the background. I adore old houses!

Kimberly Dial - Unfortunately, summer seems to be flying by & soon (sniff, sniff) it will be over & school will be in session. You are such an active momma with active kiddos & you’re to be commended for it! BRAVO Meg! I have a feeling a ‘date night’ with the hubs (even if it is a business dinner) will make you feel better. Enjoy!

sharon morrissette - Hey Girl ~~
I’d recognize the scenario you just shared a mile away.
The Kids Need Sleep.
( It’s not you! . . it’s them 🙂
~S

angie - Ha! Feelin’ your pain! You got too much summer, sister! Can’t wait for summer and then you are ready for school!
PLEASE DO GIVE DETAILS ABOUT YOUR FUN POOL!!
It looks like it might ease the pain a little..do you maintain it, is it a pain? what size is it?
thx!!

colleen from alabama - Yep,its summer! Why do i always have the expectation that it will be different than during school? It’s the same just multiplied by 24/7! That means multiple fun times but also multiple stress 🙂 We leave for the beach Sunday… praying it is a time of refreshing where the “deserving mentality” is replaced by a grateful “priviledged mentality” and the dissention is replaced with peace. Guess i have to start by looking at myself! 🙂 thanks for keeping it real.

liz larson - well, i saw your playroom a looooong time ago on apartment therapy, and every once in awhile i go back and search “meg’s playroom” or whatever, and it always makes me feel happy and inspired to maybe clean my house. HAH! anyway, just wanted to say that i have spent the ENTIRETY of naptime today reading your blog and even though i too was having a BAD DAY, i can honestly say that it was the perfect remedy for my blues. i am a mommy to a 2-year-old and 3-year-old and this blog, on this day, has given me hope that i can make it through my own kids whiney, fighting, screaming, crying, spilling-everything day. THANK YOU.
ps. we live in kansas city actually, by the International House of Prayer (i’m originally from NC) and i would LOVE to hear of more fun places to go to with kids outside of the kc metro area if you have any great ideas for future posts! we love to travel and take day trips. 🙂

Rosa @ flutterflutter - I hear ya! Worn out over here too. 🙂

Terrie - I’m with ya…loved your pics…perked me up!
I’m ready for vacation …is it Friday yet?

Jamie - I LOVED your honesty. I am the mom of four kids – 5, 3 and 3 month old twin boys. One of my twins has kidney failure and is on dialysis at home during the night. My husband and I do all his medical stuff ourselves with no nurses. Between the kids, a job, housework and everything else there are days when I ask myself the same question – can I do this? Can I handle it? Then I remember that the Good Lord must really trust me to handle all of this stuff otherwise he wouldn’t have put it on my plate. Some days are better than others, so hang in there!!
Love your blog! I get excited when I see you have a new post! 🙂

Anj - More sleep makes a big diff for me when my kids are driving me crazy! I am nicer and have more patience when I get enough sleep. And good food- less sugar & junk, more fruit & veggies. A good coffee helps [okay, and good shot of Bailey’s doesn’t hurt either 😉 ]

Amanda - oh how I can relate! motherhood, parenthood… it’s so awesomely wonderful challenging and stretching isn’t it?
love the pic of the 3 littles together in the pool.
awesome! i bet having that pool is a lifesaver during the long summer days at home.
i think it’s great they get to go to camps and lessons.
tiring for everyone, but great life experience for them.
hang in there momma! you’ll be back in the burb dropping them off for 7 hours of quiet in no time. rest is coming 🙂
have fun on your spontaneous dinner date tonight!

casey - Oh my gosh! Preach it sistah! Its like you’re living my life today!!!! Its just one thing after another with no patience! I will hold on to your comment for the rest of the day- TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER!!!
Thanks for the post- its helps to know I’m not alone!

tiffany m gardner - it’s summer. it’s hot. 3 kids myself. i understand. enough said.

Vicki - Keep your chin up happy campers!! I think it’s got to be the mid way point of summer vacation. Just seems like something sets in. The thrill is gone, we’re forgetting to appreciate how good we have it, we forget that the new school year is sneaking up on us. Totally feeling ya on this one. I have one more morning of swim lessons to drag everyone to and then we are done with that. There’s really just one answer…more iced coffee. That’s it. Try it, you’ll see. Cheers!

Shayne - Some days are like that. And you’re right…tomorrow is bound to be better.
Doesn’t it get tiring driving around to stuff like that? I never thought I’d be that worn out from being chaffeur…
Thanks for the pool pictures! They’re terrific. 🙂

julia - that was June for me. summer is not supposed to be harder then the school year. but it is…for moms.

danielle burkleo - hope today is bright.
hope the Lord is the light of your day!
hope you keep thinking about september and that you get giddy excited!!!!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - I feel your pain too. And the last minute notification by your hubby? Yup…been there. Today I was having a conversation with the Lord about people and how they disappoint. I was whining and waiting for answers. And guess what I got? Theyre human…they make mistakes(just like you). So let it go. Love them anyway.
If I were your neighbor Id watch them for you(not that that helps at all….just thought Id tell you)
xo

Lia - Oh we’ve all been there. When summer is good, it’s really really good. And when it’s not well it just stinks.

jackie - You wanna know why I LOVE reading your blog? Because you keep it so real. So many blogs I read out there I feel like those “authors” live such a perfect life…do they ever, ever have a bad day? I feel like you live a very “real” life. I am a mother of 4 children and so many of your days remind me so much of mine. I like you wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!! Thank you for keeping it real!! You have a beautiful family!!!

Susan - Meg, you are superwoman!! I totally understand the exhaustion of summer home with the kids. I struggle with the guilt of counting down the days until school starts (19!), then I know I will miss them everyday and kick myself for all the things we didn’t do from the “summer list”!
Enjoy even the difficult times, it will be over in a flash…
Susan
http://www.maryandlucy.blogspot.com

Anna Marie - Oh my do I understand. I was actually just in my room 10 minutes ago having a cry spell. We have a 6 week old (with colic) at home and I had to start my babysitting business back up last week (no maternity leave with that), plus my husband started a new job the week the baby was born and he is working 12 hours a day (sometimes more) 7 days a week. Plus other stresses (which are all made worse when you are exhausted). We don’t even get to go to church right now. I hate this! I love my new baby girl but THIS. IS. HARD.

alicia @ la famille - oh ms. meg…i feel your pain! why is being a mom so hard sometimes??!! the whining about puts me…over…the…edge!! i can’t stand it! i don’t have any answers…just, that i feel ya! hang in there 🙂 tomorrow will be better.

lauren - i’m jealous of you right now….want to trade places?? just way too many deadlines looming for me with work and community projects & at 4 months pregnant and mom to 3 kids already, pulling all-nighters is rough. i’m just sayin’ that you’re not alone, sister, we all want to crawl back in bed 😉 hang in there ♥
take care!

Belinda norrington - Aaargh, the bickering really gets to me, hate rudeness, so unnecessary, and having four myself, I empathise so much with this!Kids whining and scrapping just penetrates to the core probably because we find it so disappointing as well as frustrating maybe? I read somewhere it is important though, being one way they find out what they think/feel/how to negotiate etc. Hmmm, not sure…
How about getting a sitter for one afternoon every couple of weeks, so you could have some de-stress time? I have found it a sanity saver during the long summer break!

Melissa - Girl, I feel ya! I am SO ready for school to start!!!
Next week I’ll be in your shoes. My big boys have sports camp that is 30 minutes away. I’ll have to have them there at 8:00 and go again to pick them up at 4:30. It’ll make for quiet days but, long ones too.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Right?! Whew, it’s hot and sticky and lots of fussin’ going on.
they had the ‘opportunity’ to fold and put away four loads of laundry before any TV last night… you can imagine how great that went.

Sandy - I love the dirt on Annie’s legs. 🙂
Enjoy the dinner; sounds like you need some adult time. Tomorrow WILL be better!

Jenna - sounds like one of those days where you secretly wish you were sick!
Jenna

Alice H - I make my older 2 (12 years and 10 years) sit on the couch and hold hands and talk to each other nicely until they have apologized to each other and ME when they fight, whine, etc! They hate it! Haha!

beth - ugh, the whining!! It really gets to me, too. AND the arguing. it’s perpetual.
A question for you: we made the chocolate covered sprinkled oreos (YUM) but the sticks made it so the oreos feel apart. I even used double-stuffed. yours look like they stuck together…..any tricks?
hope today is a GOOD day!
Beth

happygirl - Take care of yourself girly girl. You can’t let them get on top of you. Their boundless energy will mow you down. 🙂 I’m praying for you. And the pics. Gorgeous.

Cassie - Hang in there, Mama. I am right where you are in my head too. This too shall pass. God will never give us more than we can handle. Even when we are in bed crying because we are so insanely tired and empty, He believes in us. You have an infinite well of strength inside of you. It’s there. Trust me. Until you see it, just keep hanging on.
You got this.
Cassie
lifethroughthislens.blogspot.com

megan - sorry, girl…i feel your pain. and, YES, get some more sleep (or, maybe, more coffee!) 🙂
hopefully you’ll have a good meal tonight and all will be dandy in the morning.
by His grace,
m

Emily - I’ve never met you, but I love you. Your blog is so honest and real and I wish we were neighbors. The pictures are great. Those colors! The personalities! Hope you get a chance to catch your breath soon. XOXOX

ingrid - those pictures are the happiest ever! i hope you find that sitter so you can enjoy a date night tonight!

Lee Ann - I feel ya. And….it’s 65 and raining here in the PNW. I know that might sound nice to some of you who are melting, but when we only get 30 “HOT” days a year, it’s not. *sigh* *whine* Love your happy photos 🙂

kristi rediske - Those kids just look to sweet to cause any problems-they just look like they have never whined in their life! Are you sure this is all going on! HA! The summers sure can be stressful but I am sure you are doing a great job. Get some rest when you can!

jeanne - I only have one kid in basketball camp this week and the 6 am wake ups are KILLING me. You may just be my personal hero:-)

Necole - I feel your tiredness. My kids are not even in activities, and I feel like we are always moving. I would love a mommy vaca just for a couple of days. Or at least someone who will come over a clean my house and do my laundry….

sunday.

i am at my parents house taking lots of photos of very cute families in the sweltering heat.
and eating banana bread.
and drinking my mom's margaritas.

when i got home from my sessions i had to change ALL my clothes because they were soaked from sweat.
how gross is that?

i realized last night (again….so more of just a confirmation or a validation…) that i REALLY love my job.
🙂
even in the HOT sweaty kansas sun.

i love seeing the kids warm up….and catching that sparkle in their eye.
LOVE IT.
today the kids said "i love you meg." when we were finished.  ha ha ha
and they squeezed me with hugs.
how could someone not love that job?

and i am happy that my mom has a starbucks in her town.
and that my dad takes my kids to garage sales.

annie had a tantrum in the toy store today.
yuck.

i drank 3 Liters of water yesterday and today too!
i went to my FAVORITE fabric store Sarah's and got to work on supplies for CRAFT WEEKEND.

IMG_9565-1

and i am driving home soon.
in 105 heat.
with only annie.
talby stays with grandma for a week!
we will have to ease the loneliness with ice cream on our way out of town….and a redbox movie.

Mindy - Sarah’s is my favorite too! I just bought that grey and yellow fabric there a few days ago. Love it! 🙂

Laine Chambers - Oh wow, those are gorgeous fabrics! Wish I could visit that store!

Jessica - HURRAH for Sarah’s! I love her store and agree with Angela, how DO YOU choose? I love your choices. I’m assuming you’ve hit up Sunfire Ceramics just around the block then too?

alicia @ la famille - great weekend! even with all the heat and sweatiness. i could just die in the fabric store…it’s my weakness, that’s for sure! all those beatiful prints! just love it!! enjoy your time with one less kid…it’ll be so fun to pick her up too 🙂

angela - Lawrence girl here…I love Sarah’s, but I don’t know how you choose. I walk around picking out fabric forever, but then I leave empty handed because I can’t make up my mind! Starbucks is my last choice for coffee though. So many wonderful, local coffee shops (unless you’re at Target or Dillons…then you might as well pick up a sb).

pam - I LOVE Sarah’s….I wished I lived closer. Although it might be best that I have to drive an hour to get there….I LOVE SARAH’S!!!! I don’t know what I would make but I want to go there now. Althought a new tied quilt for my bed would be just grand. I don’t quilt but I can piece them. I love to go to Sarah’s with my sister in law who does quilt. Makes me smile just thinking about it.

Oberheu.wordpress.com - Thanks so much for doing Mason’s pics today Meg! He was so relaxed with you. I can’t wait to see the pics- I know they will be awesome!

Katy - it was 108 yesterday. gross.

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - I always loveee your fabric choices! So bright and pretty. 🙂

Katie - Growing up in Lawrence, I could have spent hours in Sarah’s and made my mom buy out the store if she had let me! We still go there every chance we can!

seriouslysassymama - Sounds like a great day!

Cindy - Oh Meg! My girls talked about you all night last night and again today. They loved you! In fact, Addison told me she wanted to make a note to send to you and asked if you could always be our picture-taker! Thank you so much for making us all feel so comfortable! I’m glad that you love your job because without even having seen the results, I know that we’d love to hire you again sometime!! I’m a bit envious that you made it to Sarah’s Fabrics…that’s on my summer list along with a stop at the farmer’s market there!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Did someone say craft weekend?! giggle.

Heather - Sarah’s Fabrics? You must be in Lawrence! 😉 And my hat is off to you shooting photos in this heat! Don’t sell your readers short – they really need to know that today’s heat index was 120 at 4:00 pm today. It’s all about the heat index in Kansas, this is no dry heat baby!

Tiffany - how awesome to luv ur job!!! awesome, yo. no bringing up craft weekend. no fair.

Holly - wow 105! I shot my sisters wedding yesterday. It was fun and so totally out of my comfort zone but I loved it. I love being a photographer!

sue - I saw on the weather channel that it was going to be hot in Kansas,Its actually cooler in the Nevada desert. !!

happygirl - 105 degrees, wow. That’s HOT. You are so good at what you do. Being a photographer is a hard job. I’ve learned they lay on the ground, climb ladders, hang over cliffs and do WHATEVER it takes to get the shot. 🙂

Terrie - Love your fabric purchases!!!
I finally bit the bullet and ordered my camera today! Can’t wait to start playing with it, but I have soooooo much to learn! It will be fun to challenge myself though!
Thought about you as I worked on my latest project. I blogged about it today. It makes me smile!
Tell Annie…it’s so hot, I wanted to throw a tantrum too! Only 111+ here today! 🙁
I bought stuff for your mom’s margaritas today! Happy Sunday!

Leslie Davison - I think that sounds like a wonderful day: love from grandpa to grandkids, love from your mom to you, and love from you to your clients. Love Starbuck’s and Margaritas!

Corey Villicana - Sounds wonderful! Thank you so much for your blog, I just love it! Take care! xoxo

what went on with you this weekend?

Dell Ledermann - That’s the perfect way to spend a hot summer afternoon. When the AC is broken, go to the mall and indulge in ice cream, hehe. It’s ridiculously satisfying. Is your AC still broken? That’s a definite boo.

Carrie - I have been making that banana bread for years and I totally adore it. I tweek it a tad (using applesauce instead of rum and unsweetened coconut) and it is always so divine.
CUTE blog you have here!

lindsey - the pleated poppy - yay – we watched the king’s speech this weekend too! and loved it too! never has swearing been so funny and seemingly appropriate!
boo – rain. in california. in june!
i soooo want to come craft with you! save a special spot just for me 😉 and i want to steal your idea and do craft weekend here. you can come, ok? i’ll have julie and jeannett come too!

Rachel J - I went camping! First time EVER! With my hubs and 2 other couples. We grilled fish that the guys caught, swam in the spring, sunbathed, took walks, campfires, smores- it was FABU! So sad it ended.

Jennifer DeLosSantos - TJ’s is so good! Pretty sure I could eat there daily, you know if someone forced me to! Thought of you while doing a project today, fizzing sidewalk paint. Have you tried it? The idea came from quirkymomma.com. I used her search bar to find the recipe. So sad that I missed the photo session sign up. If you post any extra times, I’ll try to grab one!

Carrie Holler - What a surprise to see my smiling family here! Thanks for the awesome morning! You do, in fact, rock!

Kacey - Sounds super busy but wonderful…except for the air conditioner. Hope you get cooled off FAST!

I have a four year old and nineteen month old, a day at the pool for me is exhausting! I was just talking about it with a friend this weekend, that pool days aren’t that much fun for me anymore. This kids love it, but inevitably there’s a meltdown about something, and at the end I’m exhausted 🙂

cardis, pink glitter and oprah

to try to celebrate the end of my school-year-of-freedom…..my friend and i went out for shopping & lunch.
we are good at that.
we do it well.

i went a little wild with the cardis at target.
IMG_3229-2

it is a wardrobe staple and i was out.
so i restocked.
before i went into the dressing room….i took my size in every color because they seem to be running low.
by the time i came back to put some back and make decsisions…the rest were gone.
of course there were the XS and S but i wore that in 6th grade.
i just thought it was funny.
i was not the only one who was cardi crazy yesterday.

and we went to sam's club to look for a new trampoline….and i left with a dress for annie instead…..
IMG_3218-1

……………………………………….

i decided that summer should be brought in with neon pink nail polish with glitter on top….$2 at target.

IMG_3233-4

IMG_3232-3
i call these my princess jasmine flip flops…..

it's my way of saying "summer….i accept you with open arms…..even though i already miss the quiet house"

……………………………………….

so did you watch the oprah farewells???

Oprah_winfrey

i have always had oprah on the dvr in my bathroom.
i could see what was on….decide if it was interesting…..watch or delete.

and now it's over.
as much as i disagree with some of oprah's beliefs….i have to give her credit.
she is amazing.
and she is generous.
just to know where she came from to where she is now.
and to know that she changed our lives….SHE DID.
people treat each other differently than the previous generations…they know how to communicate more clearly because of oprah and her guests…..dr. phil….dr. laura berman….to name a few.
she talked about issues that no one would.
she brought things out of the dark.
she was not afraid to do hard things and ask hard questions and get to the real issue.

really she IS in everyone's world….everyone knows her name and what she stands for.
what an accomplished life she has led so far!

so that's all i wanted to say.
i wanted to acknowledge that she is a truly strong and special person.
and i am so glad that i got to watch her on tv for 25 years.
i can't imagine anyone that could replace her.
and if i am being honest….i will really miss her show.

………………………………………

Some important things :

Debbie Sedita-Kosiarski - One year later, I have decided to ring the summer in with the very same combination of colors…. Sinful Colors, 24/7 (neon pink) and Pinky Glitter… and putting them on tonight.

Doris - Discovered your site today. I’m also a mom and a wife so this is all close to me, and my interests 🙂
I loved Oprah’s show always. Sent her e-mail on that new address she gave,
and I got reply, with others she wrote back to.
She wrote us again, yesterday. That’s sweet that she added people who wrote her on list, and that she took time while on vacation, and wrote a nice e-mail.

tami@talkingwithtami.com - Your toes are fab Meg! You did a good job and coming from a former nail tech you did good chica! xoxo

kristi rediske - Ok-thanks so much-because of your post I had to go to Target and try to get me a cardigan-because you made it look so good-anyway-they had 1 in my size and its the same color as yours but the problem is-I ended up with a necklace to match, a purse, some capris , 2 t-shirts, and then I had to go to TJ Maxx and see what they had and i ended up with capris and a t-shirt-so – your blog cost me about $150.00 , if I was going to be honest, more than that! HA! I am glad you posted it all-I NEEDED something new!

Robin Smith - I stumbled upon your blog a while back and have read it daily ever since. Thanks for making me laugh, think, and relish in the awesomeness that is motherhood. You are just like all my dear friends back here in Nebraska… delightful and a breath of fresh air. God bless you, Meg.

Kathy - Wow. What a great first day of Summer. I feel spurred on to bust out the bubbles. We homeschool and the line between Summer and the schol year is a little blurred. My older kids have hit this odd age and arent too on board with anything. Not sure what to do about that:( We need some fun days but right now we are drowning in laundry and spilled cereal and sinus headaches:( Can we come over and play bubbles? and paint our toes glittery pink?

Flower Patch Farmgirl - All true, but I still feel oddly bad for James Frey.

deborah@applesinwonderland - love the self-portrait. i like to focus on things other than a messy house most days.
i will miss oprah. i think that i would disagree with ANYONE that i would spend 25 years with, you know?
she has brought light to many and been the hands and feet of love in many ways. i don’t have it in me to criticize any of it. that’s all. peace.

Jessie - I just love your blog. You are real and you make me feel good. Thank you for all your awesome bogging 😉

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - my toes are in need of some pink sparkle to welcome summer, too! 🙂
thought of you and your ‘summer lists’ when i read this post today…

cheers!

beki - dang, i should have made it to Target yesterday!! hopefully my local tar-jay isn’t as popular as yours and I’ll still score 😉

amy jupin - great minds think alike.
i bought FOUR!
hello. my name is amy and i am addicted to cardigans.
love annie’s dress!

adrienne - i hear you… i wonder how i’ll feel at 4:00 on a quiet afternoon and she’s not there to keep me company.

Jen - You tempt me to try Target clothes again but I am resisting! Everything is soooo cute on the wrack but looks terrible on me. I have better luck at New York and Co. at the mall. – though the prices are as good.
You look very cute and summery! I am feeling your same pain/excitment over summer vacation! Thanks for posting honesty.
Oprah has accomplished the best the world can offer. Will it stand in eternity? Only what is done in the name of Jesus. That said I will miss her show. So many years at home with little ones—making “it” unil 4 pm and Oprah was signifcant ;O
Off to get a haircut/color/eyebrow wax- my treat to myself before going boldly into summer vacation!!
God Bless~

Dena - Love cardis! They’re a staple in a cold office in the summer. I love your dress also, is that from T too?

Sugar Mama - I love that you said that about Oprah because for some reason I find women saying this a lot: “Oh, i record Oprah, but I don’t love her. I just watch the show if I’m bored. I won’t miss it though.”
It’s like no one can own (no pun intended) that they enjoy Oprah. I really liked her show. I learned a lot. I cried sometimes. And times I rolled my eyes. But she was always authentic, in my opinion. And that’s what is appealing to me about people… I LOVE when they can stay true to their mission.
That dress on Annie is so cute! My daughter lives in sundresses… maybe some day I’ll learn how to sew a few.

Meg - I LOVE cardis! They are the perfect all-season staple – my office is freezing today even though it’s 80 degrees out. Add a cardi! 🙂

alyssa - well said. exactly how I feel about oprah, too.

Jenna - Loving the pink glitter polish. If this 32 week belly wasn’t in my way, it would totally be on my toes. Maybe my husband can do it…

Jennifer - Who the heck has used Oprah as a spiritual guide? When I think about it though… I’ll agree that there are a lot of people who lack critical thinking skills which is why I worry way more about the people who use Rush Limbaugh as any sort of a guide.
Anyway, love how you are preparing for summer.
Great nail polish!

Danett - I have that same cardi! I went crazy on the cardi’s and the long tanks. I think I bought everycolor… something for everyday this spring! =)

donna - i totally agree with you about oprah – i really haven’t watched her show in years, however in saying that there was some comfort in just knowing the show was on at 4:00 – i mean if there was nothing else to do at that time. i did like her show – i just kind of got tired of it.
love your blog meg!!! thanks for being my daily read – you! i will never get sick of.
have a great weekend.

Carol S. - Also love the cardi (new word for me)…so that’s how people look cute and put together…they shop! I should try it sometime. Wish I liked it. Happy summer. Isn’t there a part of you that is relieved about no backpacks/lunches/science tests/papers to sign/early morning hustle? I’m relieved that part is over! I work part time, so I’m out of the house part of most days, so that part will be interesting to see how they manage on their own.

leonie - do you know I love Oprah… not because I agreed with everything she did or said but because a woman has incited love, freedom and thoughfulness amongst us all…(and more I am sure of), I think she would love that we don’t ‘agree’ or ‘love’ her all of the time… I really think that was her message and purpose…. and the final shows… were tasteful, respectful and appreciative of the life that the Oprah Winfrey show had given her….
and Miss Meg….. love the cardi…. OMG I love mine!!!

Stefanie - I love your posts. I don’t always comment because sometimes I’m in a hurry, reading down my favorite blog list. But I always read your posts and usually come away feeling like I had a fun chat with a dear friend.
I’ve not watched Oprah more than 2 or 3 times, but I’ve heard such kind, good things about her. Didn’t she just start her very own TV network? I doubt we’ve seen the last of her 🙂

bobbie - I really don’t like Oprah and I won’t miss her show at all.. I’m going to go hide from all the shoes being thrown at my head for saying that. But before I go.. super cute cardi and dress for annie. I’m choosing to sport wild nail polish all summer, no pink at all! tonight’s choice was sea blue.

Life with Kaishon - Oh my gosh! That nail polish is SO fantastic! You are so right. It screams HELLO SUMMER : )
I love her little dress. Way better than a trampoline. We need one of those too. I love your pictures and your cardigans. I always liked Oprah because of the kindness thing. I am a fan of anyone that promotes kindness. Anyone at all.

Laura Phelps - I think you can replace Oprah 🙂

julia - I saw that pink glitter polish – I didn’t know it was on sale though.

~ Lollipop Doodles ~ - LOVE your spirit! Your personality is just so carefree! Wish you could do one of your weekend crafts in ATLANTA! Would love to have you here!

melissa*320 sycamore - When you say googly eyes it totally reminds me of googly bear on Monsters Inc! I love Oprah (she is quite controversial in my family..)and think the world truly is a better place because she has been in it. I especially enjoyed the farewell shows~I will miss having her in my dvr too!

BULLYMAMA - I just bought the same cardi yesterday!! Unfortunately I wanted that beautiful blue that you have on and they didn’t have it in my size so I settled for black but you’ve got me thinking about that blue and I might just have to check out a couple of more targets in my area…I am very lucky to have at least 4 in a 20 min. radius!! This past fall I started to really like the cardigan for pulling an outfit together and making me feel stylish in a grown-up sort of way!
I will miss Oprah. I was never an addict but always nice to know she was there at 4pm on a cold, dark winters day.

karen - HOT with the darrrrk hair! Your eyes POP!
Oprah is awesome. She did so much for so many…and i’m not talking about her Christmas shows.
I don’t see how she could have led people wrong ‘spiritually’ as one reader sort of mentioned. I think she will continue doing good for the world…I’m also thinking i need me some glitter now 😉

Courtney Walsh - I want that sparkly pink nail polish!!!! I LOVE it! 🙂
And the cardis? Brilliant. I haven’t gotten any!
PS You do not have googly eyes. (But I know what you mean I ALWAYS have googly eyes in pictures!)

Kimberly Dial - I love the cardi & the nail polish. As for Oprah, for the last couple of years I thought she got a little out there so unless I was very interested in the subject matter I didn’t watch. With that said I liked what she said on her last show (yes, I watched it … it’s been 25 years & that’s a long time.

Stephanie C. - Oh and I mean that in the nicest way possible. I’m jealous!

Stephanie C. - Wait can we go back to the part where you have a dvr in your BATHROOM!? THAT’S INSANE!

Jennifer - You crack me up with the cardi’s! I’m a proud cardigan wearer as well, and double LOL that you wore the XS in 6th grade!! awesomsauce

staci amy - I brought in Summer with turquoise glittery polish! Totaly agree with everythin you said about OPrah =) well…..tomorrow is it for us….then I a sleeping in until at least 9 every day this Summer…..bring on the lucky charms for breakfast =) heeehee

Kerry - Me again.. how CUTE is that cushion next to you in the first pic?? I have not seen this one on your blog before? IT IS TOO FLIPPING CUTE!! K x

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I know this has nothing to do with your post, but may I just say that you have the cutest darn hairstyle ever! I will miss Oprah too. I think she is an amazing woman even though like you I don’t agree with everything she says.

Tiffany - duh, annies dress is ke-ute!

Tiffany - I’m interested in hearing more about Oprah. I don’t watch her EVER, but I’d love to hear more….intriguing. She keeps it decent and yes, she has TRULY made a name for herself without taking her clothes off (which seems to be all the rage, that and reality shows, puke puke puke). I like what Nicole said about her giving God the Glory, let the church say…AMEN cause he deserves it. I think she has an honest heart and that speaks to me.
Plus. I am sooooo a believer in cardis they are the perfect outfit polisher. Lata toots.

lauren - i’m not sure i can give oprah credit for changing our lives. i think she’s probably had positive influence on many but also, potentially, horrible influence on those who have looked to her as a ‘spiritual’ guide. i’ve watched and even enjoyed over the years but i can’t say i’ll miss her.
as for her generousity, i don’t have any idea what she gives personally. it might be huge. but the gifts she’s given over the years on her show were not purchased by her. it’s called ‘promotional consideration.’ if ford gives a focus to 100 audience members the value to them is beyond anything they could get in a 60 second spot. certainly, if nothing else, oprah has used her influence in many positive and generous ways.
i feel kind of like a wet blanket…i don’t mean to. i love your blog and think you and your family are adorable.

Jilly - Love the cardi, BUT where is your dress from?

nicole @ deliajude - I appreciate that Oprah gave God the glory at the end of it all.

happygirl - Love the cardigans, sorry if my other comment sounded like spam. I just was thrilled with what oprah can do.

Chantelle - I just wanted to say how much I’ve been appreciating you and your special blog lately. Your attitude about life is teaching me much needed lessons. God bless and keep on sharing.

shannon - Ok Meg….so our closest sams club and target is an HOUR away and i NEVER get to go without a child or both….I have been trying to come up with a bribe for the hubby so I could go to sams and target…..and then today there was this post from you. alas….i am craving target even more! I want that cardi and the nail polish……

Holly - cute post! Our summer has started with a little weather chaos but tomorrow is a new day and I cant wait!

Maria - Cute dress…may have to pick that one up for my niece…
We had our summer is here lunch and it was good…those are over for a couple of months, but we will still some girls’ night out (outs?) to look for forward to…

Gemma - Lovely nail polish!!
Gemma x

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - loving the nail polish!
I’m not a big Oprah fan… that’s about all I need to say about that. :o)

Leah - I thought the Oprah farewell was a really good last episode. It showcased what she’s been doing for 25 years. I agree with you that I don’t always agree with her completely, but she has done tremendous good. I’m glad the last show wasn’t filled with giveaways and surprises. It was the perfect ending. … And I love the cardis! Might need to run to Target myself.

Kerry - Meg.. you crack me up every day 🙂 Love the pic of you – thats my fave colour. It reminds me of one of those crazy 1950’s housewife-cartoon-postcard-pics where she looks all perfect but is thinking totally the opposite – haha! I (heart) Oprah, we are a little behind here in the UK but will flick around online in a little while to check the celebrations.
Our kids still have 2 months before summer break.. weird how much they differ?
Have a swwweeeet day, Kerry x

Cindy - You are so funny! Seriously, I had to tell you just so that you know. Your wit and sarcasm (the bubble thought above your head, for example, is comedy) crack me up! Love how “whatever goes” with you, which I suppose is quite appropriate considering the name of your blog. HA! You brighten my day.

Mindy Harris - also if you need help with the craft retreat (since i am local) feel free to use me as a resource. 🙂 (like lead a craft or bake something or decorate?). just thought i’d offer!
xoxo

Mindy Harris - bugs me when s/xs are the ONLY size on the racks…you look super cute in that pic.
also, i will miss oprah. when wilder was a newborn we watched it together; i haven’t watched it much since but there was always comfort knowing there was a famous, rich person out there doing lots and lots of good.

Jaime A. - Summer; ah!
Love the cardi- that color looks great on you! 😉

Terrie - Love the pink polish & the glitter!! I agree with everything you said about Oprah…I didn’t always agree with her, but she helped me. I always said that I could go on her show for a month and never talk about the same story twice. Lots of drama in my family…well, there was…not so much anymore. I haven’t watched her regularly in a long time, but I’ll miss her. You are my new Oprah….LOL!! Do you feel the pressure Megan? Oprah didn’t have very many fun craft ideas anyway…. 🙂

Melissa - Love the cardi, annie’s new dress {I almost got McKinley the same one…they didn’t have her size}, and the nail polish. I will not miss Oprah. Something she said a few years ago completely turned me off of her and now I just can’t stand to watch her. One has to agree that she has done lots of good in this world though!!

amy - Seems you and my daughters have similar taste in nail polish… this isn’t the first time you’ve posted a color that we just bought the week before 🙂

Lindsay - Cute Nail Polish! I just did the same exact thing yesterday to welcome summer! Except mine is purple glitter nail polish. 🙂
