i think you need a coach.

🙂
i had to make sure i got my work out in today before i could write this post with a clear conscience.

back in december i found Marta.
on Instagram i saw she was starting a 30 day nutritional group… and in a split second i signed up.
i had no idea what a nutritional group was.
i just said YES.
and i will admit that i took the same group two months in a row because
1. it was very interesting
2. i started it over the holidays so i wasn’t fully paying attention
3. i didn’t do ANYTHING she said the first round.

photo 2
that’s right.  i did nothing.
but i read her words… and got to see her heart right out there caring for each of us in the group.
and i began to really think about my nutrition.
so round 2 i started trying a few of her suggestions… baby steps right?
and then i joined  the 21 Day Fix group.
i was hooked!
Marta is my girl.
she has got it goin’ on!
i love her encouragement and positive attitude… it’s contagious!

i thought it would be fun to interview her here on the blog!
because i want YOU to get to know her too.

so i asked her a bunch of random questions… here goes:

– what is your favorite time of day?
I’m a night owl.  I love, love, LOVE staying up late.
Everyone’s asleep and it’s where I find ME time to sew, read, craft and lately, WORK on my fitness biz.
 photo 2
– your favorite movie of all time?
I love, love, LOVE movies.  A lot.
I could never pick one.  Ever.
A few of my faves are Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window & classics like It’s a Wonderful Life & Meet Me in St. Louis….. I love old movies.  I recently became obsessed with The Way We Were….. and have always loved Pretty Woman, Field of Dreams and Goonies. TOO MANY I tell ya!

– top five things in your grocery cart?
blueberries, dark chocolate, hummus, spinach salad & lately coconut milk ice cream (since going dairy-free this has saved my ice cream loving taste buds!)

– favorite type of exercise?
If you asked me a few years ago it would have been Kickboxing (which I still love!) when I fell in love with Turbo Fire.  Now it’s lifting weights.  I do a program called Les Mills PUMP (an awesome program my company offers) and I have never felt so strong! I love feeling healthy and fit, but feeling STRONG is even better.  I feel like a rockstar athlete again with muscle.  Such a cool feeling when you are a mom of three.
 photo 4
– what kinds of things tug at your heart?
Anything sentimental.  I have such a nostalgic heart.  I save everything from when I was little and when my girls were little. On any given day I have been known to pop in some home videos and cry.

– extrovert or introvert?
can I say both? I’m very shy and would prefer no one look at me.  I think it’s because I often get stared at while in public places due to my height.  I’m almost 6 feet tall and I would rather just blend in at times.  Dealing that with the majority of my life has affected me in many ways.  However, when I’m around my family or close friends, I’m definitely loud and pretend to be a comedian.  I crack jokes, am very sarcastic and am not a very serious person.

– what is your dream saturday?
A family get-together.  I’m from a very close family.  My sisters and I are best friends and we are always together at one of our homes or over at our parents having a BBQ or party for someone or celebrating an occasion.  Between the four of us we have eight children so there is always something going on!
photo 1

– who or what motivates you?
Many people motivate me every single day- my husband, my daughters, my sisters, other people in the fitness world– however, I’d say what motivates me most is not being able to meet my mom’s father. He died of a massive heart attack at age 44.  2 months prior to my mom’s wedding to my dad.  This has stuck with me so much over my entire lifetime.  Most eight years olds probably don’t dwell on the fact they never got to meet their mom’s dad. I did.  For whatever reason.  I felt so connected to him and still do to this day.  I imagined him. What he was like.  Why my mom was the way she was because of him.  I thought, how sad that he didn’t get to see my mom get married and walk her down the aisle.  How tragic.  And unfair.  But this created in me, a reason to honor MY body and my life.  I know we can’t control everything.  But I can control what I eat which impacts my health which impacts my life and how long I may live.  I’m only 34 and not many 34 year olds think this way.  But I do and always will.
When I have a slump of a week like filled with hectic schedule and CANDY.  I re-group and motivate myself to be BETTER.  FEEL BETTER.  LIVE BETTER.  This motivates me.  My grandpa, whom I’ve never met, has touched me and impacted MY life so much.  What a crazy concept.  But he is a big reason I do what I do and am who I am.  And he’s impacting what kind of mom I am and what kind of children I am raising.  This is all “the big picture” of life in my opinion.
Other things motivate me as well.  Wanting to feel my best, look my best, be energetic, be a role-model.  But overall, we must all connect to our inner-self and figure out our main goals in life and then make a plan to achieve them.

– what did you eat for lunch today?
Ground turkey, avocado and tomatoes.

 photo 3
– if you could be someone famous… who would you be?
I would say Jackie Kennedy.  I have always had this weird connection to John F. Kennedy and that entire era. Sounds so strange, I know, but when I see video footage of him, I feel like I know him…. like I’ve met him before.  It’s weird.  I would love to have lived during that time in America. I’m very drawn to the 50’s and 60’s and always have been nostalgic.

– where should someone start when they don’t know how to start… excerise or health wise?
I would say the first thing to do is get honest.  Honest with what foods you are feeding your family and yourself.  Do you really know what is in the foods you are eating? Do you know how to pronounce the ingredients listed on your box of crackers, chips and cereal bars? If not, throw it out and NEVER look back.  This is what I feel is the most important thing starting off.  Eat REAL foods.  Real meat, nuts, seeds, fruit, beans, veggies….. real foods.  Not processed fake things that resemble foods.  If you start with this you will immediately feel changes and then you’ll see changes.  I promise!

***************************** THANKS Marta for answering my questions!  ******************************

so here are four facts i wanted to share:

1. Marta and her 3 sisters are ALL Fitness Coaches!
Isn’t that something amazing?!!
you can read their group blog for advice, recipes, information & inspiration… FOUR FIT SISTERS.

(ALL of Marta’s contact info is under her photo on that blog)

2. Marta is a a Beachbody Coach.
It is free to sign up on BB for a coach…. takes about 30 seconds.
when you do sign up, there are no high pressure sales or constant emails.
but what there IS is information, education & HELP with questions about everything.
when you order BB programs like the 21 Day Fix, Turbo Fire or Shakeology through your coach, of course your coach gets a percentage of that sale… but that is the perk of being a coach!
if you don’t sign up under a coach… BB gets ALL the money and you don’t get the care from Marta, a hard working mama trying to help so many women take back their health.
to me it is a no brainer.
sign up for free to have her as a coach and she tells you when all the sales are going to be, what new programs are coming out & answers questions you may have.
She can tell you which programs are her favorites too.

3. Marta has special nutritional groups that she runs each month dealing with all kinds of health issues.
you get daily questions and information that is fascinating.
i have learned SO MUCH this past 5 months.
i have changed my eating habits completely.
and i feel so good!!!
for real…. it has been awesome.
she starts a SUGAR DETOX group next week.  (all the details can be found HERE )
i am enrolling.
and afraid.
but ready… please join with me so we can hold each other’s hands through it.

4. Follow her on Instagram.
because she is FUN!!!
handstands?  black eyes?  fire alarms and burnt bacon?
it’s all there along with the fitness inspiration.

i know so many of you out there don’t feel your best.
trust me… I KNOW.
you are tired, worn down & discouraged.

It is time to be done with that.    (stop being sad and be awesome instead 😉
it is time to get strong…physically and emotionally.
do it for YOU!
I’m not talking about  bikini bodies…  i am talking about feeling healthy!

who else is going to take care of you?

ummmm…. N O  B O D Y.
i think Marta rocks.
and she can help you get where you want to be.
she is a busy mom like so many of us.
she gets it.

the end.

🙂

i just started the 21 day fix workouts again,
but hey Marta… when those are done how about we try this record i found?
HA!
photo 4

thank for continuing to help me reach my goals MARTA!!
maybe someday we will have a handstand challenge?!
just kidding!

do YOU have questions for me about any of this?
leave them and i will try to answer them IN THE COMMENTS so everyone can participate.

Louise - I joined the 14 day sugar detox starting Monday. I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. Meg – thanks so much for being such an inspiration…and for sharing who inspires you. Marta is amazing. AND — so are YOU! 🙂 You look beautiful by the way! Well – you always have looked beautiful, but I really do see your total body transformation. You inspire me.

Kathy P - Which website do I watch for any upcoming nutritional groups from Marta? I’m not really interested in the sugar detox (I know I won’t do it — but if there is ever just a chocolate detox, it would be helpful 🙂 ), but would like to know what some of the other groups are. So do I check in on Four Fit Sisters or Beachbody or somewhere else? (I’m not on Facebook or Instagram, Pinterest yes!). Thanks.

Kelly - Hi Meg…..just saw this morning on TV with Montel Williams a show about/selling the 21 DAY FIX PROGRAM…..was that one of Marta’s sisters?? I so need to do something and you look like you have made some good progress following this plan. you are my inspiration !! thanks, Kelly–NYC

Jen Rausch - Sooooo I read about you starting the 21 Day Fix a while ago. Then, one of my FB friends (who is a BB coach) started a group and your blog gave me the courage to try it. My husband and I have kept it up (that stinker has lost 50 pounds!!) and I am even RUNNING now! We have changed our lifestyle so much that I just signed up to be a BB coach! I am so excited for this part of our journey!

Leann - Hi! Wondering if I get up in the morning before I have to leave for work, (leaving for work at 5:15am, wake up time is normally 3:30am) should you eat before you do? And if so, how long do you wait before working out?

Amy Woods - EEEkkkk! I want to join in, but I’m scared. Because I’m like REALLY FAT!…Not just kinda overweight….we are talking MEGA! ugh!

Amanda - Thanks for sharing Meg! You look so great. And I bet you feel even better!!
Are you still running or do you mainly do the videos?

Leslie - Hi. Because I need the motivation would you be able to do a before and current post- where you post how much you’ve lost (pounds, inches, jean size, whatever you feel comfortable with). And then a before and after photo? I need some motivation. I already eat a mostly clean diet (except the sugar in my coffee) and I have a health condition the very much limits the exercise I can do. So I’m stuck in this rut. I’ll share so that I’m not asking you to do what I won’t do— I’m a size 8 (5’4″ 147lbs) but I have a stomach that says “3 kids in 4 years”. My goal is to maintain at 140lbs and be toned and not have tummy pooch. But those 7 pounds just will not stay off. I lose two, gain 1, lose 3 gain 4, lose 1, gain 1….. Thanks for being an inspiration!

Amy Purvis - I’ve signed up too! Nervous as spit….I like my cookie butter after my long runs…and sugar in my coffee….and Pam’s cheesecake! 🙂

meg duerksen - KELLI – it has gotten higher somewhat but it is worth it to me. knowing that i am eating healthy foods and not just processed cheap convenience foods is worth the money.
LEEANN – i am think ing about the Pump too! the 21Fix helps you with the nutrition side of health too. and the workouts are do-able. it’s a great place to start. I have had a shakeology shake almost everyday for 3 months now. i like the chocolate and the vanilla. the strawberry wasn’t my favorite… but not bad either. i think when you order the 21fix with the Shakeoloy, that the shakeology is on auto renewal. but you just unsubscribe if you don’t want that. but ask marta to be sure.

Lee Ann - I think I’m about ready to bite the bullet. I think I’ll go for the 21 day fix – but I’ve also read so much about the Les Mis pump. I lift weights so I think that appeals to me – but I can’t do both right now.

Do you like the shakes? What flavors? Are you locked in a contract? Just the one time payment for the fix?

Heather - I am in my second group with Marta thanks to you! I started with PUMP because the 21 Day Fix was still back ordered. Now I’m doing the fix and while I love the pump workouts the fix is awesome for helping me get a handle on my nutrition again! I’m kicking myself for not signing up right away when I saw your original post about it. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and motivation and encouragement! I owe a lot to Marta and YOU!

Kelli - I am curious if you have noticed a huge difference in your grocery budget and have you changed the eating habits of your entire family?

Cindy Singer - I just started her group this week!!!

Laura - After I saw that you did 21 day fix, I looked into the whole thing and did the Les Mills Pump Challenge with Haley. It was so great! I highly recommend the Les Mills Pump. I used to work out at the gym (elliptical and weights) but this has toned me more than that ever did.

Seriously Sassy Mama - Oh how I love this post. I was just talking with a friend about getting a trainer at the gym. I have a tendency to do things like workout then go pick up chick fil a because I had to pee, and could not longer hold it. I want to make sure I am doing the best workouts for me and my body.

Barbara (WA) - Hi Meg, My 21 Day Fix box arrived and now I know exactly why you were shocked at how small the containers were – they are tiny!! I haven’t had time yet to figure it all out but I have an online coach (a friend on my sons’s). Wish me luck! I want to be slimmer but more importantly stronger!

Makila - Hi Meg! I am currently in a 21 Day fix group with Marta. I saw last week you were giving up wheat. Is your whole family doing this? Did you go back to dairy? Just curious to ask someone who has done fix with Marta!

Thank you!

Caroline - Meg – you have been such an inspiration! I’m doing it – just signed up for the sugar detox!!!!!!!!!!

Amy Mumaw - I have done a 30 day challenge with Marta and became so interested that I became a coach under her! I love it! I am in training and can’t wait!! I am also doing the sutra detox! We can do it together bc I am VERY AFRAID !!! Sugar is my drug of choice , lol
We can support each other!!! I love MARTA

meg duerksen - ALICIA…. there is no doubt it is hard to work out with little ones at home, especially if you are home schooling! 1. the obvious option… get up before they do. (but let’s get real… you were probably up twice in the night to deal with at least one of them right?)
2. do you have a PE program in Homeschool? can it include push ups, sit-ups, planking, jogging, walking etc? 3. do you have a YMCA with childcare? that was my sanity when my kids were little. 56 minutes to myself watching oprah on the treadmill.
4. just workout right there while your kids do their school work. they can handle it. it’s good for them to see you make your health a priority. so if it’s while they are doing their reading… then so be it.
just some thoughts.
also… when they get older it DOES get easier. and in about 2 more years you may get a full nights sleep a few times a week and you will be a DIFFERENT woman completely. 🙂

Alicia @ La Famille - I have heard of her before and she looks SO fun! Thanks for pointing her out again. The sugar detox sounds so good! I had baby #4 about one year ago and I have lost all my baby weight (Yay!) BUT I still don’t feel FIT. I used to exercise all the time but I just really don’t know WHEN to do it?? Since you have a whole bunch of kids, do you have any suggestions for this?? I also homeschool, and their ages range from 12-1, so that’s a bit different than you…but maybe you have some insight. I’m frustrated because I love to exercise…I used to run all the time and do tons of races. I love to use kettlebells and lift weights. I just feel SO tired all time and don’t know when to squeeze it in. SOS.

CassM - Meg, I JUST signed up for the Sugar Detox today …. nerrrrr-vous ….

Mainly b/c I have little faith that I’ll stick with it. Sad, but true.
So, excited you’re on board with that one as well so I can follow your journey too.
I’m 40 in November. Feel as though I should be finally ‘together’ and ‘myself’ by that point … after 3 babies in 4 years and well, just, LIFE. Oh, and poor food choices and no exercise and a definite sugar addiction …. right, after those things. But I’m giving myself some grace to know that I don’t have to have it all together by the big 4-0 (so that I can properly celebrate and actually achieve a goal) … but that I need instead just to START NOW. Start for real. Start for life. I could go on for paragraphs … (Home with 3 littles all day, I’m starved for conversation, ha!)

Anyways, Meg, I know you hear this a lot as I’ve read it before … but you are most assuredly my fave. From one stranger to another, y’know. Never left a comment before … I kinda hate being one of the masses, in all things … but oddly enough this post got me out here to say hi. Ha! For real. Thanks for all things. I really, really, really truly learn a lot from you.

I’ll think of you as I’m miserable from the Day 1 detox headache, yeah? 🙂

melissa shepard - I second everything Meg said!!! I too did 2 groups w marta. She is fabulous… amazing.. and gorgeous… and REAL! I just started the 21 day fix.. hope my results aee as amazing as yours are ,Meg! You look soo awesome. I have enjoyed watching and reading about your fitness journey the past mths. So encouraging!! Thanks for sharing…. and girls…SIGN UP w MARTA. YOU WONT BE SORRY!!!

hungry.

this weekend we had all the kids gone and we celebrated Craig’s 40th.
it was pretty wild… we washed windows, gathered a trailer of trash, unpacked boxes, got take out once and watched shows on the DVR.
40 year olds know how to party.

honestly though… i am e x h a u s t e d.
moving is gosh dang hard.
physically yes and mentally too and then emotionally too because everything is different and sounds different and looks different and is a mess…. and then i get emotional.  in a very cranky kind of way.  the kind where i go out of my way to the gas station to buy crazy overpriced peanut butter m&ms and emotionally eat two bags alone in my car crying.

so instead of listening to me complain about that stuff… let’s think about what we should have for dinner or breakfast this week?

here are 10 great ideas!

there is no better kind of cake in my mind.  coconut wins.

forever.

ok… i have more crap to do…clean, unpack, organize, purchase, hang, stock, throw away, drop off, etc.

bye.

Megan - We are moving this weekend! Small stuff in our cars on Saturday and Sunday, official “movers” on Monday. I’m excited and nervous. It’s not a far move in terms of distance, but it is far in terms of lifestyle change for us. Kids sharing rooms, only one full bath, no air conditioning…deep breaths. This is what I wanted and signed up for. Lots of green space, less suburban congestion, more time together.

Lorie - That Southern chopped salad looks yummy! A restaurant here has a mexi-cobb salad that is similar. I think I know what I have having for lunch tomorrow!

Debi Meyers - Did you see Emma Stone on Jimmy Fallon this week? She reads Mom Blogs in her spare time! I bet she reads you, Meg.

dmeyers

Tanya - I sometimes do salmon in the George Foreman grill. Easy and delicious.

Lexi@ Lexi's Clean Kitchen - Thanks for including my Zesty Chicken Bites!! 🙂

Jenny B. - I don’t know how you feel about deep frying things, but my husband deep fried brussels sprouts this week, and they were SO GOOD. He didn’t do anything to them (no batter). He just cut them in half (fresh, raw) and dropped them in the Fry Daddy. I think he probably salted them when they came out, but I don’t know. Anyway, they were delicious! 🙂

Jenny B. - Thank you, Meg! I am not glad at all that you are exhausted and struggling emotionally, but I am glad to know that I am not the only one who breaks down when things get overwhelming. Change is HARD. Wishing you love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… and rest. 🙂

Colleen - SAlmon…. fillet, boneless, preferably wild alaskan. Heat gas grill to hot temperature, place salmon skin side down then turn grill down to medium flame. Prior to placing on grill marinate in cheap white wine, then place a coffee cup of white wine on top of grill with a brush ( have another glass of expensive white wine for yourself while doing this)
Intermiteently and frequently brush the salmon with the now warm wine on top of the grill while you enjoy your own glass of wine. The more basting the better the outcome. Do not flip! Cook until the salmon turns white on the top and the fat bubbles. and there is no pink inside ( unless you like it rare.. not me)… 10 to 20 minutes or around when you are done nursing your own drink.. depending on temp of grill.
This makes a very moist wonderful salmon that both my kids ( picky) enjoy… always!!! This is my dad’s grilling recipe and how to that I will remember forever and always think of him when making it.

Mickie - I’ve been watching your move and gaining some courage as we are about to do it again too. We were only in this house for 3 years but I just needed to move back to where I have some trees around me (among a few other things) so… here we go! So, even though you are feeling emotional (and I get that)you also inspire courage. And, I’ll bet Kimberlee Jost could make a mean salmon. Or, the next time you are at RedRock, try theirs. It’s my favorite!

Tiffany - You have quite the palate there Lady. My choices are all deep fried and of the pub menu variety. Not so good good for my over 40 thighs. Tell Craig, Welcome to the 40 Club!! We party HARD (not so much). Idea for you, plan a celebration weekend for when the house stuff is all over, it’s nice to have something to look forward to.

Lynette - Thanks Meg, now I am hungry and don’t have anything in the house to make any of those wonderful dishes I have just drooled over. I will have to make the carrot muffins this afternoon then wont I

Wendy C - Our last move was 4 years ago and there is still that one tub in the basement of things that haunts me. The items that never found a home in the new house but I couldn’t bear to part with. My summer goal will be to find those items a home – either in my house or someone else’s – and then celebrate with a piece of that coconut cake! Good luck and remember this is all in His plan for you and your family!

april r - coconut absolutely wins 🙂

Flower Patch Farmgirl - We are total foodie twins.
I want that salad so bad. And the cauliflower!

I have to say, I’m skeptical of the quinoa pudding.
But your caption cracked my business up.

Stephanie - I hear you on the moving! We’re military and have set up ten homes in fifteen years. It’s not getting easier! I just told my husband that, while I love our life, I might be getting too old to keep moving. It’s hard. BUT it’s always worth it and we’ve had our stuff for a month (today, in fact) and almost everything has found its home. I hope you feel more settled in a month, too! Secondly, thanks for the amazing recipe links – it all looks so good! I’ll try the salmon for you…we’re in Alaska now and I think I have to learn to like it 🙂

Carrie - Thank you for taking the time to post during the busyness of your life! We all appreciate it! 🙂

Hope it settles down for you soon!

Kathi - I love that you are so transparent, it really helps me to realize that i’m not the only one that gets emotional sometimes. Reading blogs is strange, to me it looks like you have it together in every way. You inspire me, the way you’ve taken your photography, crafts & sewing and made a business from them. Your new house is awesome! {hugs}

Melissa - I’m not one for baked sweet potato but I think I could tweak the recipe and put it on baked sweet potato fries. Thanks for the inspiration

marcie - meg, my daughter and i cook some mad salmon – if kimberlee is ever busy we will come to craft weekend ( we craft, too!) and make salmon and show you how – it’s easy- and you will love it. We have salmon every.single.week. really.
mollie’s mom

emily - thanks for sharing so I know I’m not alone. we are getting ready to move and it makes me feel stressed, even though we just going across town. i’ve never really moved before and i’m gonna miss this house.

Tammy - Yummm! This is my first time commenting, but just wanted to say I was in the same boat as you regarding salmon…it scared the crap out of me….but it turned out to be the easiest and tastiest fish to cook. I just used a small drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper to season it, then cook it in on a really hot pan skin side down first to get a yummy crispy skin and finish it on the other side…so easy and so yum served with a dill mayonnaise drizzled on top and salad. It is really filling too… Good luck with it and settling into your new place…many good times ahead I’m sure 🙂

Kori - The easiest, tastiest salmon I have had is to brush the salmon with olive oil, then sprinkle with cajun seasoning (to taste, I like a medium bit of spice) and bake it at 425* for roughly 25 minutes. Another way I like it is to brush it with olive oil (no other seasoning) and bake it the same as above, but while it’s cooking, make the Knorr Bearnaise sauce and put it over the salmon when it’s out of the oven.

Oh. My. Goodness. SOOOO delicious!

Elizabeth Stewart - Thanks for giving me cravings for peanut m&ms and that gorgeous coconut cake!

Kimberlee Jost - I show you how to make salmon and you will love it.
🙂

gina - you always find the yummiest recipes; thanks for sharing. One of the easiest ways to cook fish is to take a frying or saute pan and add a can of broth and a squirt of lemon juice. Bring it to a gentle boil, add fish, and cook for 10 min or so. The fish is cooked when it flakes apart with a fork.

SoCalLynn - That kale pesto veggie pizza is to.die.for. I’ve made it three times in 2 weeks. I only used brie cheese once; shredded parmesan works better actually because the brie gets lost in the baking. I’m going to look at that salad with the cilantro dressing. Looks delicious!

Andrea - this all looks so good!!!! but I completely understand the bag of M and M’s…sometimes they just make everything seem better?! So glad that you are getting moved in….to be honest….I couldn’t recall where you live and wondered if the crazy weather last night affected you all?

Hang in there!!! Your new house looks awesome!

Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit - I just about pinned every one of these. OMG, so yum!

Emily @ DavenportDIY - I grew up in the Pacific NW, so any salmon you get there is amazing. But now we live in Georgia, and I’ve purchased some horrid salmon at the grocery store before. So if you do salmon, start off with some good salmon. Frozen wild caught is better than farmed. But don’t buy thawed wild caught ’cause that can get nasty if it’s been thawed too long. Get salmon from Pacific waters, NOT Atlantic. My 2 favorite ways to cook it are a brown sugar/lemon rub (rub with brown sugar, top with lemon slices) OR cover it in pesto sauce. Then bake ~350 for 20-30min MAX (depends on the size of the fillet too). You want the white fat to just start bubbling out of the top of the fish, or until the fish flakes with a fork. Don’t overcook it. It’s an easy one to cook and is very delicious! 🙂

heidi maggard - Thanks so much for posting those recipes! You’re crazy, salmon is AWESOME but then again, I hate coconut so we must have opposite taste buds. 🙂 Love love love seeing pics of your house. Thanks for sharing. Every single thing you do inspires me to be more creative and colorful.

Jessica - Make the Barefoot Contessa’s panko crusted salmon, but just bake it in the oven, don’t hassle with the step of browning it first. It is AMAZING! Seriously, my best friend hated salmon and I made this for her and she is addicted now. The recipe is online at food network

Corinne - I am not a good cook and I have made Salmon before. It really doesn’t need much, it will be yummy. I can’t wait to see pics of your new home.

my friday thoughts…

hey peoples.

how are you?  how was your week?

i feel like i am not sure what day it is… what time it is… am i awake?

it is getting a little hazy in my brain.  moving is kind of a lot of work.

(the neil diamond playing on the radio at the coffee shop is NOT helping)

let’s talk about… the 21Day Fix.

confession:  i basically took a week off of exercise (other than some walking) and a few days from the healthy eating.
it’s so hard when you let yourself off the hook even one day.
the next day is SO much easier to make an excuse.
and then the next.
and same can be said about cookies or chips.

but last night i set my phone alarm for 6 AM and put my phone in the bathroom so i HAD to get up to turn it off.
it’s about the only thing that can pull me out of my DEEP sleep.
and i set out my clothes the night before too.

i sleepily did the Dirty 30 and 10 minute abs.
My kids had a rough morning… late night/hormones/hunger/rushing so it was really good i had gotten up and exercised because i wouldn’t have handled it the same had i just woken up to the sound of fighting.

one silly thing that helps me enjoy a smoothie (or two) everyday…Milkshake Straws.
fri5
i buy them at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
but it looks like you can order Milkshake Straws right here on amazon.  🙂
they are big.
i wash them and re-use them if i remember to rinse out my smoothie cup right away.
(it is the little things that change a day isn’t it?)

the 21 Day Fix does not say to do this but i am trying really hard to eliminate wheat from my diet.
It is not easy!
the first reason is craving things i like – duh.  (and i am weak!)
and second… wheat is in EVERYTHING!
geesh!

how are you doing… are you on the 21 Day?  are you doing your own thing?

i would love to hear about it.

——————————————————————————————————–

let’s talk about… the new house.
🙂

we are getting really close to moving in.
so exciting.
the floors are done and  looks like a different house altogether!
IMG_5710
the kitchen is halfway in… they brought in the cabinets so the countertop people could make a template.
so by next week it should all be done.
i love it all so far.

fri6
i took these two pictures on the same day.
one in the morning and one in the evening.  🙂

in the picture below….

1. the wall we tried to take out.
we opened it up and found it was full of wires.
blerg.
we considered the options… decided it wasn’t worth the money to move all the wires.
i am still bummed about it.
but it is no biggie… nothing to cry about… not that i did.
(and if i did… no one saw me and you can’t prove it)

image-3
2.  this is going to be an A M A Z I N G  island.
i am super pumped about it.
one big shelf for microwave and mixer, the ninja and the toaster.
all under the counter but easily accessible.
and all the rest are drawers.  YES!
i am PRO-DRAWER.

3.  new tiles will go around the gas fireplace.
YAY.
and of course the mount is already installed for the tv.
of course it is!  everyone always starts with their favorite things.
and that is why i bought a daisy chandelier this week….it’s my “tv mount”

4.  the wall we did take out.
just half of it…. lets in so much light just by taking out 5 feet of a half wall?!
so glad we did it.

the girls can’t quite decide how they want their rooms to look.
i am hoping for something like this…
fri1afterlight-4
the boys don’t really care.
and i have about 79 ideas in my head right now of things i want to start on today.

fri3fri2
at this point i am ready to be done.
ready to be moved in already.  ready to be IN and not have tools and dust everywhere.
but it doesn’t work like that does it?
lots more work to come in the next two weeks.

———————————————————————–

and lastly…

if you live in the st. louis area… i need you to tell me the best places to go as a grown up lady.
no kids.  no dudes.
where to eat… where are the best places to thrift and antique…. what is a great hotel… what neighborhood?

i know you girls will hook me up.

———————————————————————–

natalie@thesweetslife - as far as food goes in STL…
Kaldi’s for coffee
Ted Drewes for frozen custard (you must you must you must!)
Sasha’s Wine Bar or Pastaria for dinner (you really really cannot go wrong with Pastaria!)

Melissa Getts - I’m a little behind on my blog reading, but if you still need ideas for STL – I love the London Tea Room, a whole menu of teas, and I believe they still serve breakfast and lunch in true British style. Also, even more, I love Osage! With exposed brick and huge windows, old wavy glass, I love the atmosphere! They serve a wonderful breakfast and use fresh veggies and herbs, even berries in season grown in their on-property gardens. There is a little shop with gardening-inspired gifts, and an outdoor courtyard with additional tables, as well as plants for sale. Loved the food, loved the atmosphere! Have fun! SO much shopping in that area as well, as others have mentioned!

Ginger king - Meg I am Heidi Claassen aunt she was a teacher for your child. She is pregnant with her 3rd child he has been diagnosed with downs
Heidi has a blog
Heidiclaasen.blogspot.com
I’m sure it would mean a lot to her to hear from you

Caitlyn - I’m about 30 minutes south of Downtown St. Louis, there’s a historic town called Kimmswick. Its adorable, lots of unique shops and restaurants and of course the world famous Blue Owl. I reccomend Dough Depot they have pretzel bread sandwiches.. yum! Gus’s of course is a must, and Ted Drewes. Soulard is a fun neighborhood too. Chesterfield has everything as well! tons of shops, outlet malls, restaurants, pretty much anything.

Bridget - I second the suggestion on Cyrano’s in Webster Groves (http://www.cyranos.com/) for their desserts. It’s decorated in pink! How fun is that? Also, Bailey’s Chocolate Bar in Lafayette Square (http://baileyschocolatebar.com/). The neighborhood has such beautiful, French style homes. And sometimes they have a tour of homes so you can see how they’re decorated inside!

Candice - Wow! You guys work fast. The kitchen is coming together. LOVE the paint chip colors. AND that pink chair. Fun!

Gina - I did the 21 day fix because of you and I am so glad I did. When we started (my husband is doing the food part too), we went gluten free. It was going to be just for the first 2 weeks. It made such a difference that we don’t want to go back. Psychologically, reading “Wheat Belly” helped because it made me think wheat is evil. Imagine “The Water Boy’s” mama saying “It’s the Devil!” I love cookies, cake and pie but haven’t had any since starting 21 day fix 4 weeks ago. It is absolutely amazing how the cravings are just gone. I keep some dark chocolate in my purse so that when I want a little something it hits the spot.

P.S. In the first 3 weeks, I didn’t lose any weight but I think it is because I had no muscles. I lost 6″ but no weight. I am getting stronger every day and hope by the end of 6 weeks some weight will fall off too.

*****ALMOST FORGOT TO TELL YOU!!!!!!!! Target has packs of Bubba straws. You can get a pack of 4 or 5 for $5. I love that Bubba cup mostly because of the rubber straw — plus it’s cute.

Michelle Deckert Richmond - Too bad about that kitchen wall….think of it as a great location for a “gallery wall”. The place is looking awesome. Bright and open. Can’t wait to see your special style transform it.

Julie Gugel - Zia’s on the hill. Then across the street is St. Louis bakery.

Jessica Kiehn - You have a God-given gift to take something from boring to beautiful. LOVE the house- I like the way you think!!

kim - I did the 21 day fix with Marta..same time as you because of you ;-)…stopped wheat and my beloved diet pepsi…hit and miss on the exercise. I so agree that once you excuse yourself it is much easier to keep excusing yourself..going to get back on track with exercise.
Would love to see the finished house 🙂 thinking of remodeling our kitchen and love the island storage.

Kim

Wendy Cordia - St. Louis is so much fun (but I’m biased because I live here). I agree with the Chase Park Plaza hotel recommendation. Another fun hotel is The Cheshire Inn (English themed with pubs and restaurants) near Forest Park (Art Museum, History Museum, Muny Outdoor Theatre). For dining – try the Boat House in Forest Park or Crown Candy (delicious shakes) for casual daytime dining. For evening, try Jimmie’s on the Park (in Demun area) and on your way to/from there walk to Shasha’s Wine Bar or Demun Oyster Bar (my favorite, and I don’t like oysters!). Demun Oyster Bar has a fun menu of vintage cocktails served in unique vintage glassware (think Mad Men). Plus, to die for Sweet Potato chips. Be sure to get the Beignets there for dessert! Antique shop ideas are: The Green Shag Market (on Manchester) and TFA (The Future Antiques store – all 70s finds) on Chippewa (near the famous Ted Drewes frozen custard). Have so much fun!!! Can’t wait to hear what you do while in the Lou.

Cathy Barnes - OK.. so here’s a place you CAN NOT miss when visiting STL…

T. F. A. – The Future Antiques. This store features all kinds of cool stuff from the 50’s 60’s, and 70’s. Everything from decor, to kitchenware, linens to furniture. ALL in mint condition and organized thoughtfully. It’s a TOTAL blast from the past. You will LOVE it!

They are not in the location mentioned on the video. They now are at: 6514 Chippewa in beautiful South St. Louis! While you are there, go around the corner to Legrand’s Market and get an awesome deli sandwich, then walk south to Ted Drewes for some legendary St. Louis frozen yogurt! It’s a great outing for sure!

I live 4 blks. from all of this, so if you need a guide for the day… I’m in!

Check out T.F.A. The Future Antiques on Facebook.

ALSO… they’re some great shops on Manchester Ave. in mid-county.

This one,http://www.missouriantiquemalls.com/warson-woods-antique-gallery/ is a bit pricey… but there are two across the street that are really fun!

Another area: Big Bend Ave. near Manchester – Treasure Aisles and another shop immediately next door. You an kill hours in those two.

Hope this helps!

kim cole - Moonrise Hotel in The Loop – boutique hotel with mid century modern vibe, lots of space related zchotkes, an awesome view of the city from their roof top bar, and close to locally owned specialty stores-some of my favs are Ziezo, Phoenix Rising, and Craft Alliance. On Grand So. Grand check out Upcycle Exchange where you purchase post-consumer art and craft supplies at pay-as-you-wish pricing. Close by is Tower Grove Park, a Victorian era walking park with picnic gazebos, ruins then walk to the world class MO Botanical Gardens – bring your camera!

Heather Henricks - Love the new house!! Your style is perfecto! I did the 21 day fix in February too (I met your friend Jill in my group with Marta!) The containers made it easy, didn’t it?? My youngest daughter thought that she should use the containers for her AG doll :). I’m still doing the DVDs in conjunction with the gym. Its fun!! Not too hard . I can’t wait to see the rest of your new house. Its going to be a gem!! Thanks for sharing!

Elizabeth - I’m impatiently waiting for the 21 Day Fix to arrive. I preordered last month and now they are saying late April. I’ve only read great things about it so I can’t wait to get started.

Your house is looking great. I remember doing all that when we bought our house 9 years ago. Now, it’s time for us to go back and redo some areas and I’m learning it’s so much harder with kids 🙂

Mrs. H - Oh what fun paint names!

Lisa Vinograd - They also have those big straws (in a color pallet that is way more you) at ikea! aqua, yellow, red, pink!! So fun!

Jill - I have been doing the 21 day fix since February – well, sort of. I did the first 21 days perfectly – no wheat, no dairy, exercised etc…felt great. Then we went on spring break and I did pretty good – worked out a lot, ate ‘pretty good’ but since returning it’s been terrible. All sorts of momma responsibilities and work have gotten in the way of working out and my eating has been ok- I need to re-commit. Thanks for the push and the reality check.
Your 40’s house looks great btw.
xo~Jill

Heather G - I am so glad you post about 21 day fix. I have my kit ordered and am just waiting on it to arrive.

Barbara - Hi, Meg,

Love how your house is coming along! I am so happy for your family and know many great memories will be made there.

The other readers gave you some great ideas for your visit to St. Louis but I’ll throw this one in if you are serious shoppers. In a western St. Louis suburb, Chesterfield, they just added two new outlet malls – Premium and Taubman. You may want to do something more restful than that but thought I’d throw that out there.

I hope you have a fun girl getaway when you’re here! You’ll sure deserve the break from all your moving activities.

Easter blessings,

Barbara
St. Louis

Meg - St. Louisan here too. Best places to stay are the Moonrise Hotel and Chase Park Plaza. Definitely check out Treasure Aisles on Big Bend Road. And, thee are neat Antique stores all over Cherokee Street. The Mud House is great over there for breakfast or lunch. Get a pretzel at Gus’s Pretzels that way too. If I were doing a me only trip in the STL, I’d also hit up RISE coffee house and Choquette French Bakery. And, visit the Botanical Gardens (not far from RISE and Choquette). Love our city. Feel free to email with questions. Have lived in St. Louis city all my life and have tons of city recommendations!

Kori - Funshine and Freckles??? I would use those colors just so I could tell people the names!! Love. Them.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - The daisy chandy.
LOVE.
Especially next to that B&W pillow.
You’re the Godfather of colour. You know that, right?
Okay fine, GodMOTHER.
Also, I accidentally spelled “colour” the British way.
Am I secretly fancy???

Lyn - The mud house is a great coffee shop breakfast place & there looked to be several fun little shops right around that area. I’m not from there but had breakfast at the mud house last time I was there on a recommendation & I was not disappointed!

Lyn - The mud house is a great coffee shop breakfast place & there looked to be several fun little shops right around that area. I’m not from there but had breakfast at the mud house last time I was there on a recommendation & I was not disappointed!

andrea - I’m no help with St. Louis….sorry Your kitchen…Oh my word, I can’t wait to see more. Wheat….I’m with you! It is in EVERYTHING….and it is sooooo difficult. Hang in there…. yes, I am reading Wheat belly….are you?

Cassidy - I’m really thinking about doing the 21 Day Fix. It sounds like such a great program. I’m actually on a gluten free diet for medical reasons but YES wheat is in everything. There are tons of substitutes though so it definitely gets easier! 😀

The house looks beautiful.

Bethany - Hi Meg!!
I came to craft weekend in June of 2012 when i was newly pregnant with my twins!! They are 16 months old now and I still love checking in on you everyday! 🙂 I live in University City in St. Louis and I would say you can’t go wrong with staying at the Chase Park Plaza in the Central West End. There are amazing restaurants you can walk to, the area is fun & alive and the hotel is great..beautiful hotel pool and restaurants and even a small movie theater..it’s an old, renovated hotel. Beautiful!
For antiquing you would have to venture out the of the Central West End a bit but not too far, there are some along Manchester road & Big Bend that are only 10-15 minutes away from the hotel driving. Also I know there are some great places to shop antiques downtown in the “grove” area although I have not been to any yet. That is also 10 minutes away from the Chase.
Old town St. Charles is really quant and historical as well, although I can’t give any recs on hotels in that area, I haven’t been in awhile 🙂
Have a great time!

Maria - Here’s a couple ideas – Cyranos for bread pudding and Quintessentials for a little antiquing, only open the first seven days of the month. Downtown Kirkwood has a bunch of fun little shops, Moonbeans, Found, Christopher’s, the bug store and Down by the Station. Enjoy your time in my little neck of the woods.

Caroline - There is a restaurant on Manchester near treasure aisles antique mall (stated above) that is called home wine kitchen. It is cute, small and delicious.

Also! TFA (the future antiques) is a place you’ll love in St. Louis City (near ted Drewes!) http://tfa50s.com

I hope you enjoy your stay!

Emily - I lived in St Louis for about 7 years and moved about 7 years ago. I highly recommend Treasures Aisles Antique Mall. (2317 S Big Bend Rd)
I lived in University City, which I loved, really old beautiful houses, great restaurants and shopping! I haven’t stayed here myself but there’s a newish hotel called Moonrise right in an area called the Loop.
My absolutely favorite restaurant is called “Modesto” in an area called the Hill. If you like Spanish tapas, you’ll love it.
Enjoy!

kimberly oyler - girl that kitchen has some seriously gorgeous light going on!

Lucy - I love the pasta house they even have one in the airport

Michelle from Australia - Today is my last day of my USA trip. I fly out of San Francisco in a few hours to Los Angeles. And then the 14-1/2 hour ‘hop’ home to Brisbane, Australia.

It has been a marvellous few weeks in San Fran, Upstate New York and Seattle but it’s time to go home to hug my children and get back to our crazy version of ‘normal’ life.

My concern? That my husband and children have had WAY too much fun in my absence and that Mum being home again won’t be as exciting for them as it will for me. Please God they will have missed me….at least a little 🙂

Lisa - Ohhhh….I have so many ideas of where you should go, eat and stay in our fair city! I think you should stay at the Chase Park Plaza in the Central West End. It is a wonderful hotel and has an in-house spa where you can get your nails done and then go sit by their beautiful pool with a cocktail! It is a very walkable area with tons of restaurants, bars and cafes, plus right across the street from Forest Park – so gorgeous and fun in the spring! Also, I believe there are many thrift & antique stores in the vicinity – Tower Grove Park area. When are you coming?? It would be so fun to show you around. 🙂

Elena - Hi! About St.Louis… I live in Italy, but I’m from St.Louis… I can Suggest a restaurant… Go to Paul Manno’s.. It’s in Chesterfield and its the best. Trust me and you’ll feel like a lady! (Just forget the 21 day FIX thing for a day!)

Debbie - Or….downtown Old St. Charles. Lots of antique shops, great little restaurants…super fun shopping 🙂

Debbie - Frontenac Hilton. Across the street from upscale mall (Pottery Barn Teen, William Sonoma, Saks, Neiman, Sur La Table), restaurants across the street, half mile from Galleria mall and shops (Crate & Barrel, World Market, Trader Joe’s, Maggiano’s, Urban Outfitters …), ten minutes from downtown StL. A really fun store is Gringo Jones on Shaw Ave. Crazy wild stuff 🙂 And it’s next to the Botanical Gardens which is a must-see when in the Lou. Have fun!

seven tips for change

135bb237acd46d56bbdfc8dba002dc62
so i have been thinking the past few weeks about health and fitness a LOT.
i have loved the 21 Day FIX.
LOVED!!!
the only thing that i didn’t love was my own will power over peanut butter m&ms.
and that is not 21 Day’s fault.

my plan… is to keep on the 21 day schedule with meal planning & workouts through may.
then also adding back in some running with my friends when the weather warms up.
the 21 plan is easy to maintain and i like not having to think too much about what i am going to do each day.
i just do the workout on the schedule and follow my meal plan i made.
i know Marta will be facilitating more groups.
i recommend them for everyone!  they are SO informative and encouraging!
JUST DO IT!!
(i think you need to pre-order now if you want to specifically do the 21DayFix because it sold out quickly..but ask marta)

i made a list of some helpful tips if you are having a hard time trying to fit in a workout and/or trying to change your eating habits.
because let’s face it… it is not easy.   we are ALL busy.  we are ALL tired.
these are some things that are helping me out right now!

1.  set out your work out gear the night before.
bestdayever-5

when everything is out and ready you are one step closer to not talking yourself out of your workout.
i put mine in the hall in case my husband is still sleeping when i get up.

2.  workout first thing in the morning… before anything else.
you are practically still sleeping so you won’t notice until about 10 minutes in.  HA!
i know you morning people know this secret already.  (it only took me 38 years to figure it out…)
but if you get up and workout early, before your kids get up even, your day will go SO MUCH BETTER!
you have energy!  you are awake for your kids at breakfast!
you get a whole bunch of stuff done that would take so much longer had you slept later and been more tired.
TRUST ME… i understand the sleeping in.
i am the queen of sleeping in!
every morning i think “NO.  UGH.  I HATE THIS.  I WANT TO SLEEP.”
every. single. morning.
but…
halfway through the workout i am bursting with endorphins that did not exist before!
i am pumped!
it has been so good for the whole family.
because this mama loves to sleep…. like reallllllllly loves it.
but a smiley, happy, sweaty mama is so much nicer at 7 AM than the crabby, please-be-quiet-and-don’t-talk-to-me mama who can’t open her puffy eyes.
IMG_3992
even the dogs will be happier.

3.  take your food with you.
i have a cute little cooler bag that i drag all over the place.
and these kind of containers make it great for portion control and two different kinds of snacks.
if you are already stocking your kitchen with loads of healthy options this should take you hardly any time at all.
if you aren’t… you should start.
buy twice as much fruit and veggies and half as much processed food the next time you shop.
give it a try.
bestdayever-2bestdayever-3bestdayever-4

4. HYDRATE.
my drink of choice is water.
we all need LOTS of it everyday… possibly much more than you normally drink.
i love coffee and drink that all the time too.
but when i am out and about i always have my water cup but i was running out all the time.
then i would be thirsty and annoyed… because even if you went through a drive through and ordered a water… it tastes like grease!
and if you drink soda i am sure as soon as your water would be gone you would be dying for a soda at a drive through.
so this is my solution in my car.
bestdayever(do not look at my dirty console… just UN-see that ok?)
i refill them almost everyday.  then i always have more water on hand.  and i have a healthy drink when my kids say “I’m thirsty!”

no more missing out on drinking my water when i want it.
and no excuses.

5.  get rid of that junk food in your house that temps you.
just throw it away.
literally.
(and pour stuff on top of it so you don’t take it back out of the trash…)(not that i have ever done that….)
it is bad for you.  (peanut butter m&ms… i am talking to you!!!)
it’s better off in the trash than in your body.

and don’t get fast food anymore.
just don’t.
it’s gross…. i mean… it really is!
the only “fast food” place i can still handle occasionally is Chipotle.
that is certainly not perfect either but its a much healthier choice than Wendys or McDonalds.
all that other greasy food?
you know it’s bad… you know it.
so we have to just say enough is enough.
and stop the madness.

i am sure i will eat fast food on a rare occasion but not weekly and not even monthly.
it would be out of pure necessity (“no place to eat for the next 3 hours on a road trip” kind of necessity)

6. find some accountability.
it is such a great motivator to know someone else is cheering you on.
there are lots of ways to have accountability… i personally really like the groups marta is leading.

photo-4.PNG
and meeting with my girlfriends for running (or walks when i have too much to talk about  😉
we keep each other motivated.  we build each other up.  we encourage.  we sympathize.
we give grace.  we support!
as a busy mom i need to hear from someone who can really understand what that means.
it is constant… right?
as moms and women we are all go-go-go.  we don’t get time off.  we are all day and all night.
so i need to hear i am not alone and that i am doing ok.
accountability for me needs to be understanding and encouraging… no guilt or shame or teasing.
so be sure to choose your accountability wisely.
PicMonkey Collage
and if you don’t have girlfriends to do that with… MARTA will be your friend!
she will be those things for you!  having a coach is pretty great.

7.  LAST tip…..you have to take care of YOU.

YOU are an important, beautiful, amazing creation made by an Almighty God.

it is true!
and YOU are in charge of it.
what you eat is up to you.
what you do with your body is up to you.
as grown women… no one else is going to take of us anymore.

that means YOU have to schedule your time to exercise.
that means YOU have make healthy choices one day at a time.
that means YOU have to be the one to schedule a massage for yourself.
or a hair appointment.
or a date night!
or a girls night!
or just a stinkin nap.

you need rest and recharge and good foods and exercise.

and you have to do it for YOU.

i listened to a sermon last week & the line that stuck with me was
“no one plans to ruin their life… they just don’t plan not to”
i think that is true for our health and self care too!
none of us say out loud  “i am just going to eat everything when i am stressed or sad and not get off this couch”
or  “i am just going to take care of everyone else all day every day & make sure there is no time left for me to recharge.”
but we don’t do things to prevent it and we end up doing just that.

don’t forget about you.
your body is worth 30 minutes of exercise.
your body deserves healthy foods over junky stuff.
your mind craves time to rest and relax.

God made you awesome…. so BE awesome!

what are your thoughts?
i would love to hear them.
even if your thoughts are “geez meg you are losing your mind”
let’s hear it.
what are you doing?  what do you want?  how are you getting there?  what motivates you?
🙂

Jen@thecottagenest - Such great tips Meg! Thank you for posting them!

Congratulations on your new home. I can’t wait to see what you do to it. So fun (and stressful) to have a new project!!

Christin - Thank you so much for this encouragement! I am 31 with 3 young boys and it can feel like the days just slip by and now I’m heavier than I’ve ever been and I’m sick of it! Thanks for the tips to get started!

Traci - I so need to get back into working out first thing in the morning. I like the gym better late at night when not a lot of people are there (mine is 24 hours!), but exercising in the morning sets up the best days.

Valerie @ Chateau a la mode - Hi Meg,
Wow, look at you go! So proud of you. I like your idea if getting things out the night before for a workout. I have actually gotten frustrated because I cant’t find anything ti wear and din’t work out. It’s just a dumb excuse, but it has happened to me. Good luck on your new program and keep us posted.

Alicia @ La Famille - Meg, this is so good. Its all stuff I know, but just needed to be reminded. Getting up and getting your workout in before the kids are up is KEY!!! Such good stuff.

And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! on your new house and all the kids’ successes! So much good stuff going on with you guys!

xo,
Alicia

Lesley - Meg – you’re the bomb, for real! You are sooooo inspiring, honest and authentic! You make great points here and I agree with every one of them. I especially love the doing it for YOU message. When I feel like I’m hauling myself to work out, I remind myself that this is me looking after me – if I don’t do it for myself, who else will!? Can’t wait to get my hands on my 21 day fix too! xox

Stacie Bowers - Thanks so much for your never ending inspiration! I can’t wait until our paths cross again. xo

Andrea - I’m there…..I’m trying….not perfect, but sure trying. I love your big water cup….I have had two cooler cup thingy’s and both were awful……. where did you find your cute water cup??????

Keep on inspiring us all, please…..

Sarah D. - I *need* to know where you found that snack container that you have your apples and pb in! I just looked on-line and think it must be Rubbermaid brand, but it isn’t for sale via the Rubbermaid website and I can’t find it for sale on any other website either. Please help!!! 🙂

Laura H - Thank you for this very positive post Meg! There are many things I have learned with age, and one of them is to take care of your body! I am a VEGAN, and I can tell you from personal experience it has the BEST effect on your mental and physical well being! I feel light and joyous all of the time! People always ask me what I eat, and I tell them….REAL FOOD!
I also find it easier to run in the morning. You feel so great afterward! It sets the tone for the entire day! I always look forward to your posts, and this one by far is the best!! xo

amy jupin - you inspire me!
and you look so healthy and STRONG!
likin that big time.
i think you deserve a hug.
in person this time!

Cassandra - Way to go, keep up the good work!! And you are absolutely right we deserve time to recharge & take care of ourselves. Thanks for reminding me 🙂

Lindsey - This is great stuff here! Thanks so much for spelling it out for me today!

cyndiloohoo - I love the line about not planning to ruin your life…. That is so true. I didn’t plan on gaining extra weight when I was in my 30’s, it just happened. I have lost it, gained back 10 pounds and am now trying to lose it again. I also love to sleep and that is my struggle, wanting to sleep any chance I get a little extra time. I know I need to exercise more but it is so hard.

Jess - Thank you so much for this, Meg! I am a runner who is trying to get back into it after a very rough winter in Chicagoland. I’m always so happy to be out there running and I never regret it when I go, but sometimes finding the motivation can be hard! These are great tips for fitness motivation AND healthy eating, which is something my husband and I are definitely working on 🙂 I really enjoy reading your blog and enjoy seeing where the journey takes you. Cheers!

Stephanie - Thank you so much for this great encouragement. It came at just the right time for me. It’s nice to hear it from a real woman, a real mom, just like me. I have bookmarked this post!!!

Heather - Meg I just finished the 21 day fix with Marta is was awesome! But….dang….you should be a coach!!! You rock!!!!

Janna - You are so RIGHT ON!!! I too am on this same kick and I know some ppl think I am losing my mind but you know what…I just. don’t. care. I am taking charge of my life and my health and it feels awesome! I lost 65 lbs last yr from Apr. to Dec. and I have kept it off and life is so SO much better!!! Feels amazing to be even 10 lbs lighter than I was when I got married 14 yrs ago. We have cut almost every processed food out of our house and buy as much organic as we can afford (I have major health issues like autoimmune of the thyroid etc and I just pray none of my kids have to get as sick as I did). One of my 4 kids has tested positive for gluten and dairy allergy along with me:( I still have to get the others tested. It’s a long hard road, but it is our responsibility to keep our family healthy. So keep it up you and good luck on your health journey!!!

dixie - meg,

love your fitness posts! i’m thinking hard about doing the “marta plan.” i’ve emailed back & forth w/ her a few times… my 2 biggest questions which she didn’t answer directly….. 1. how can i incorporate eating out with this plan?? and 2. the workouts? do i have to have a treadmill or any equipment? can i do this in my basement??

would love some more direction!!!

thanks!!!!!

Erin - My neighbor and I started T25 7 weeks ago and for the first time ever I have finally stuck with a workout program for more than 2 weeks. I love junk food and am always in the car and going non stop like you. I gained weight this winter and normally this time of year I give up all carbs, lose the weight and then by about 4th of July start putting it back on. About 3 weeks ago I decided that I didn’t really care so much about the weight ( well I would love 10lbs off) but about my health. Once I started exercising I cared more about food as fuel and how it was going to make me feel later if I ate junk. Anyway, like you I find that I have to pack a cooler when i hit the road. I actually love it! I love having something fresh to eat and not something from a drive thru! I also never leave my house without water (I used to drink diet coke all day). Have a workout buddy. Someone who wont let you quit. And my last tip is buy cute work out clothes. I swear it makes a difference.

Marla - As a mom of a 7 month old…working out has taken a major back seat until recently. All that middle of the night waking and nursing boobs don’t really make for a good early morning workout. but I have made my little guy’s first nap my “first thing in the morning”. Put him down and work out immediately. (and yes my clothes are laid out) 😉

Liz - Love this, Meg! After a year of Crossfitting with a recent 3 month break, I am feeling ICK. I started a 21 day sugar detox today and signed up for a new gym membership, so this post came at a great time. The signs are everywhere! It’s so difficult sometimes to remember #7 when we are busy being wives, employees, mothers, friends… It’s so vital, though. THANKS FOR SHARING!

LeighAnn - I’m doing a challenge as well. Saw a link for your blog and I loved your tips. Where did you get your huge water bottle?? I love it. And what a great idea to keep spare water bottles in the car.

Leann - LOVE your blog Meg. Love how encouraging & real you are! As women, it’s nice to see everyone support one another! 🙂

Alice H – I’m in about the same boat as you! Except I have only 1 kid, he’s a year and a half. I get up at 3:30, I can’t imagine getting up any earlier either! I work 7:30-4 but I have an hour and a half commute one way in the morning & an hour back home! By the time I get home, it’s dinner time, play, bath & bed. My little one is in bed by 7:30 & I work out for at least a half an hour then. I know it’s not “good” to workout that late some say, but it’s better than sitting on my couch. At least that’s what I keep telling myself 🙂 I’m a newbie to the workout zone, I started eating better about a month ago, cutting out processed foods and white starches. No sweets, occasional dark chocolate, no soda, just water and a coffee in the AM. A week & a half ago, I started to work out. I can definately already see a little bit of change going on.

You can do it! It definately isn’t easy, but It’s worth it 🙂

April R - This post is going to be such a blessing 🙂
Fun, concise, REAL, and inspiring – thank you!

“Un-see that” XD

Kimberly - Thank you.
I SO needed this today (easter egg in mouth)
I will be shopping for little containers and lotsa good groceries this afternoon.
And I might even hit the treadmill. Stranger things have happened!

Alice H - I have a hard time waking up any earlier than I do. I work full-time from 7:30-4:30 (a 30 minute commute) and I already wake up at 5:30 to shower, get ready, get my kids ready, etc. Then when I get home, it is dinner time, play time, homework time, cleaning time, bed time. And I am exhausted by then also!! What would some tips be for me to get some exercise in? I walk around my work building in the morning and afternoon for my “smoke break” (I do NOT smoke, we just call it that. LOL!). I eat decently, we have been cutting out a lot of processed foods at our home. But I have a really hard time getting in a good exercise. Besides playing with my kids, bike riding (when weather permits), etc. Thanks for any tips or feedback!

Adriana - I love all of your tips! I’m currently trying to make this fitness thing happen in my life and I reaaaaaally need some motivation, I’m not a morning person… But you’re so inspiring! Thanks!

Jenni Horne - This is a great post!! It’s nice to see “real” people working out and making healthy food changes. Kinda more of a motivator for me than let’s say that skinny chick on the video. Sounds whack, but knowing someone that is busy, has a family to nurture and a business to keep up with is making time for these healthy changes makes me want to try too. I kinda like being awesome. 🙂

Karen Gerstenberger - Dear Meg,
Thank you for sharing your fitness routine, healthy eating and encouragement with all of us. I just returned from a week at a wellness retreat with my 81-year old mom (1st time in my life, and I am 54) – it was life-changing! We practiced loving self-care, were able to eat healthy food and really see it as FUEL for this precious, only body which God gave to each one of us. I tried new forms of fitness, and things I haven’t done in years (walked the labyrinth, took gentle hikes, and tried yoga). Now I’m in love with yoga, and have started a practice at a studio near my home. It’s the right combo of spiritual, mental and physical for me – gentle, yet challenging – and it is a great balance for my regular fitness-walking. There is something out there for everyone, and we will find it, if we are gentle and kind to ourselves. It’s hard to love our own body in this culture, but our bodies are gifts and we need to take care of them from the inside out. I’m thankful that you are modeling this for yourself, your family and blog readers. If you want to read about the retreat we took, I wrote about it on my blog (karengberger.blogspot.com).

Tere - Thanks for sharing Meg. You are doing awesome. I needed to hear these 7 tips this morning. It’s so easy for me to get “off” this life change, your motivation is appreciated. Question: how are your kids/household handling #5 — are they adjusting to no junk in the house, or maybe they aren’t junk eaters like their mama. xoxo

Wendy - I need this! I have been searching everywhere for that external motivation to stick to the working out routine. Mornings are so tough especially when it is so cold. I hope this warmer weather helps me some. How do you stay away from the delicious treats at Craft weekend? I find myself making great cookies and cakes for my kids and husband and then can’t resist. That is why I need to work out so I can indulge without the guilt!

I loved the first commenter. So true. I am always inspired by your posts but not to be you to be me.

Thanks!

-W

Jen - First, I am so proud of your for doing this for you. I think that’s great! Not only are you becoming healthier, you are also setting a very positive example for your family. You go, mama!

Me? I am a group exercise instructor (for the past 18 years) and have had the whole exercise, no soda, no fast food thing down for a LONG time. I am however 37 years old, have had two babies, am aware that my metabolism will start slowing down if I don’t fight it, and am trying to do a few things to better my health. I want to be able to run around when I’m a grandma!

I am trying to eat healthier and move more. I stand as much as possible – paying bills, waiting at the doctor’s office, on the laptop at home, etc., I am planking whenever I can (don’t tell my co-workers, but I do this in the nice big single-seater bathroom at work and then wash my hands REALLY well!), I am trying to consume more fresh fruits and veggies, and have been keeping a food journal since August.

I saw something on Pinterest that I keep thinking: Move more, eat right. The weight will take care of itself.

Kimberlee - #7—the most important.
I see you doing this, and encouraging others is the best.
God made you to do this.
I love you more than pb m&m’s.
Now that’s love!

molly - love your tips. so simple. and they are all so true. i especially like the tip to buy more fresh food. you just have to keep the good stuff on hand!! and the water. i drink a ton of water. i always carry my water cup (my favorite cup just broke this weekend….sad day!) what i notice is my girls rely on my water cup for them to drink too. so we are all drinking more water.

and taking care of you. so important. to be our best we have to take time for ourselves. we have to be a good example for our kids. oh there will be days where the workout gets skipped and we eat a cheeseburger from sonic but that is ok too. we need to be a good example of good health and you need to take care of you.

Amanda - Love this Meg! So happy you are feeling your groove getting healthy!! Me too :):) I started with a group of 20 girls on Jan 5th. We read the Daniel Plan, and began an 8 week challenge together to get healthier. The new good habits stuck and at 10 weeks I’m still feeling great!
Grateful for the ability beyond myself!! Glory to Him! He’s given me so much willpower and endurance.
I’m also following a few great weight loss journeys… Diana smith (livylove) and molly brown (mollyrunsforlife). Those ladies are so inspiring.

Elise - I’m really enjoying these posts! Please keep them coming! I’m 9 months pregnant right now (with my first) so a lot of what you are sharing (particularly the exercise part) doesn’t apply too much at the moment but I’m already feeling motivated by you to get back to being diligent in my exercise and eating once the baby is born!

Julie B - I have a 5, 3 and 9 month old. And I work a full time corporate job. And I have 9,476 other reasons not to take care of myself. But I also need to lose baby weight. And I just turned 35 on Friday. And all of these factors added up to me making the same choice you have recently made. Enough is enough. There will never be a convenient time to lose weight and get in shape. But I refuse to give up on myself. 35 is still too young. I have so much i want to do and I’m going to do it…by making time for me to eat healthy foods and exercise. I’m about 4 weeks in and feel like a new person. And I’m so energized to keep going!!

Keep up the good work and keep up the motivating blog posts. We all need community to make lifestyle changes.

Michelle - If you want to try a different salad, my fiance and I have both been obsessed with this lately:

mixed greens, craisins, feta or blue cheese and sunflower seeds.

For a dressing we make a white balsalmic vinegar that we have tweaked from several recipes….usually put it in a mason jar and shake before serving:

1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup white balsamic vinegar
1 TBSP honey
1 TSBP lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

SO good! Hope you try it. 🙂

Stephanie - You are doing a great job, Meg! We have been healthy eaters since the late 90s (no processed food, mostly organic, no fast food, grassfed meats and milk, lotsa veggies, etc), but I so remember that lightbulb coming on for me. Not that I ever thought fast food was healthy, but I never really cared. Exercise has been much harder for me. I am now signed up at Fit2B.com. 10 minute workouts that I can handle at night when all my kids are in bed. I still have 20 lbs to lose, so exercise is it!
Keep it up, Meg! 🙂

Donna - I am a morning person, so I am not always so popular in my house when I am up and about and everyone else wants peace and quiet. But I have to run before everyone gets up, or I won’t do it later in the day. I can usually sneak out quietly, and it is SUCH a great way to start my day. A time of solitude, quiet, peace, reflection, positive thoughts for the day. In the end, it makes me a better mama 🙂

GB Jost - When in Wichita, stop at QT and buy a cup that is refillable. Fill it with water, KEEP IT, and at any QT (and there are thousands in Wichit and outside of Wichita), you can get free refills of water anytime!

Jen - I am SOOO with you on the morning exercise! I, too, set out my clothes the night before and I get up at 5:30 and get it done. If I don’t, it doesn’t happen. No matter how much I tell myself it will! I get on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes and then it’s done! I have also found that I am MUCH more motivated to get on the treadmill if I have something to look forward to while I’m ON the treadmill! I am not a music gal so I get the ipad set to Netflix and watch something that I only allow myself to watch on the treadmill. I did ALL the seasons of Parks and Rec this way and now I’m working my way through New Girl! I can watch one whole episode while I’m exercising and the time goes much more quickly. I think next I’m gonna go back through old Parenthood shows because you can’t get much better than that!

I MUST be better at preparing food ahead of time. Things go SOOO much better when I do but I am SOOO not good at that. And I don’t love salads either. Ugh!

Thanks Meg! You are inspiring!

Sarah M - Ugh. You are absolutely right. I’ve been thinking about all of this for a while now. My 4th (and last) baby is 19 months old. I’m still carrying weight I gained from my first baby, 8 years ago! Number 7 struck a chord. I keep thinking I have to change everything immediately. Then, of course, I can’t maintain all of the change so I fail and I hear the lie that I just shouldn’t even try.
Thanks for this post. I’m bookmarking it to come back to daily.

Martha - I have the 21 day fix as well. What dressing do you put on your salad?

Gemma - Great post Meg! I just love your honesty. Did you ever like salad before or have you just become used to eating it? Sometimes I love the idea of a salad but once it is in front of me I can barely eat half of it. It just tastes so bland.

Gemma x

Lori - You are so real and authentic and therefore anything you write is interesting and motivational. But especially this post – especially the dirty console. You inspire me every day – not necessarily to be more like you, but to be more like me. And I just wanted to say thank you.

meals, answers and a sale

so here is my meal plan for week two of the 21 Day FIX.
this is what i love so far – i am a visual person – so when i look at this chart i know that i don’t HAVE to eat chicken if it says chicken.
i see the word chicken but i mostly see the color RED so i know that i can grab chicken out of the frig OR any other protein/meat that i have on hand.

WEEK TWO:
WEEKTWO21DAY
i spelled broccoli wrong on my chart.

also i noticed last night that i categorized dried fruit wrong… oops
don’t tell Autumn.
AND confession… i cracked on annie’s cookies she made this afternoon.
darn it… but man they were yummy!
but that happens and life goes on.
we just pick up from where we screwed up and move on.

the question several people emailed me about was “how are you feeding on your family while working on this plan?”
great question!
something i noticed last week… we are never home!
that makes meal planning difficult… and easy at the same time.
BUT the way i worked it out for OUR family was to cook some things ahead.
i grilled 6 lbs. of chicken one evening, i hard boiled a dozen eggs and i roasted a bunch of broccoli and sweet potatoes.
then i put all of that in the refrigerator and i had food prepped all week for most of my meals.
if my husband isn’t going to be home at dinner time… i rarely make a meal.
it is usually make-your-own meals those nights.  Everyone is able in our house to fix what they want.
i will help them if they need it but they rarely do.
they can also eat that chicken if they would like.
the nights we were home i modified the meal for me – they ate soft tacos… i ate a taco inspired salad with no tortilla, cheese or sour cream.
i make sure to cook extra of the healthy things i served and saved those for the next day’s lunch.
i know my kids won’t want a big spoonful of broccoli so i set out other options too… apple sauce, cottage cheese, yogurt or fruit.
so… my answer is probably not too helpful for you moms that are planners.
but surely you knew i wouldn’t have the answer for you.  🙂  ha ha ha
i am to distracted to have a big plan.

and last tip of the day…. for one of my daily “yellow containers” i use for 16 oz. of unsweetened almond milk and i use it slowly over the whole week in my first cup of coffee in the morning.
i use my frother and make it seem like more than it is and then the rest of the day i drink my coffee black.

ok… moving on from that stuff. ———————————————————————————-

how about a little sale on prints & canvases in my shop?!!
woo-hoo!
saleprint
there are two new prints in my shop!
one of a sleepy Stanley and one of the craft table happiness.

IMG_2201IMG_2597
AND i have the COW and the GLOBES in 16 x 20!!!!

IMG_4061
they are so big and p r e t t y !!!

click over to THE SHOP to use the code 15SALE on all prints AND the canvases too!!
that is a super deal!

Michelle - Love the meal plan. What is Shakeology? And, do you have recipes for your soup, chili or turkey meatballs that you’d be willing to share?

Traci - Oh, I love that pup, and I love those globes! I’m new here and just looking around…I like your stuff!

Teresa - I read your blog all the time but have never commented – BUT – your posts on this program inspired me to sign up for this and I ordered it yesterday! I’m really excited, but nervous about making actual “meals” … so if you want to keep posting your week meal plans I won’t complain 😉 haha

Melissa - THANKS for the sale code. I just ordered the nest print I have had my eye on!! I cannot wait to receive it.

Necole@seriouslysassymama - I am a big meal planner. We are home most evenings, which will be changing starting next week when volleyball and softball start. What helps me is we all eat like birds. I eat a more strict meal for breakfast and lunch, but eat whatever my family eats for dinner which I cook, so is generally healthy. Saves some money that way.

Lisa - Sweet sleepy Stanley. Love that craft table – Happiness is an appropriate description.

Michele - How long is the sale going on?

Kathy - Our meals sound JUST like yours! Hubby works some evenings so it’s just me and my girls and we’re often rushing bc we have to get to sporting events in the evenings … so we do the whole make your own thing many nights too – or we make something super simple like sandwiches and soup. I love that we’re not the only family in this season of life!! =)

April R - I am so inspired by your photography skills.
Light, color, life – all captured so beautifully.
Happy Wednesday 🙂

Sheri - I need the cow…llike NEED the cow

Southern Gal - The Craft Table Happiness print reminds me of the jigsaw puzzles I used to do with my grandmama all the time. I haven’t thought of that in a while. Thanks.

Liz M - I am not in your 21 day group, but am doing this challenge because of you. I vote for a 21 day challenger craft weekend! Crafting and planking…what could be better?

sunday morning.

well… i am writing from starbucks this morning.
talby has a volleyball tournament again and she has a two game break so i snuck over here for wifi.
and coffee of course.
IMG_3714
this is talby’s first time playing club volleyball.
it is good for her… she seems to like it a bunch… great group of girls.  🙂
we were all together for a few of her games last weekend… that’s FUN!
IMG_3717IMG_3719
and my week continued on with basketball games.
they are still undefeated!  Pretty excited for these boys!  Can’t wait to see how far they can take it this year.IMG_3811
update on the 21 Day FIX… i AM LOVING it!
for the first time in my life i think possibly i have worked out seven days straight?!
whaaaaat?
the workouts are only 30 minutes!
the meal plan – i rocked it.
i posted my plan earlier last week and i am going to make my week 2 meal plan today.
i will share it again and i will answer a couple of questions i had about meal planning with kids in mind also.

IMG_3859
i thought an all hot pink workout gear day was necessary for yesterday.
i needed some motivation since i didn’t do my workout in the morning… i kept putting it off.
so PINK to the rescue!

stanley is the most patient and fun little puppy!
PicMonkey Collagestan1stan2stan3
he just loves attention of any kind… even if it means dancing to annie’s sing-a-long.

ok…. gotta get back for the next game.
have a SUPER sunday!

Heather - Um you look so skinny I thought that. Selfie was Lauren. 🙂

Lisa - We spent all weekend at my 12 yr olds volleyball tournament too. We love watching her play! They lost in the championship which was hard. She had some tears over that. Fun to watch them play so hard! And glad she loves the game enough to care! Glad you had all the family there for some of it! So fun to all be together cheering on their sister!

Mindy - You are a great motivator with sticking to your healthy routine! I love the pictures with the dog. I have to admit to dancing with a patient doggie a time of two myself : )

Library Momma - Legs look great! Good for you!!

Carrie - I have never noticed how much you and Lauren look alike until the family picture of you all, and then the pink picture of you. With your hair back, you two are twins! 🙂

Lisa - I think it’s great that your whole family goes to each member’s games/events! A supportive family is awesome! 🙂

Jessica R - I was reading blogs this morning (and delaying my workout) and when I got to your review of 21Fix and your picture, I immediately put down my iPad, changed into my workout clothes and went for a run. True story. THANK YOU for the inspiration. You look so great!

Tiffany - ^^That’s Congrats!^^

Tiffany - Gongrats on 7 days. Do I hear 7 more? Good luck to you.

Aimee D - Meg, you are looking super skinny these days! I mean in a good way. lol

Stacy P. - LOVE volleyball! And I love Stanley. 🙂

i am sore… ouch.

so i have done three of the workouts on the 21 Day Fix.
i love how short they are – 30 minutes!
but holy heck my legs are SORE.  wowza.

A bunch of you have asked where to get this program…
it sold out when they released it but they will be restocking soon enough.
i see it on preorder through BeachBody.
email Marta at hausofgirls@gmail.com about details and she will hook you up!
i am in a small-ish accountability/support group through facebook that Marta leads and i LOVE that part of it.
i like being able to ask questions and get encouragement as we are doing the program together.

AND update… i am not hungry.
there is plenty of food using this plan.
it just doesn’t include nightly large bowls of lucky charms or milkshakes.  (darn)
but sticking to my meal plan (that i made for myself so there is no one to blame but me) has worked.
so far so good!

here are MORE meals that look so good!
i wish that squash soup was right here in front of me NOW.
Yummmm.

8more.jpg

1. Salad in a Jar

2. Cheesy Spinach Muffins

3. Stuffed Peppers Soup

4. Thai Red Curry Coconut Squash Soup

5. Clean & Lean Lettuce Wraps

6. Sweet Potato Quinoa Patties

7. Asian-Style Cobb Salad

8. Santa Fe Turkey Stuffed Peppers
i have NEVER eaten a stuffed pepper or even desired to until this recipe!  YUM?!

which one of these recipes looks the best to you?

and also… what are you making for dinner tonight?

Maria Donahue - Hi, I’m just starting the 21 day challenge, your receipts look incredible but I’m confused as to how to convert them into what containers they would use. And how much a serving would actually be. Can you help me? Thank you:-))))

Stacy - Thanks for sharing my cheesy spinach muffins! Funny you should choose that recipe because it is actually the most viewed one on my site.

Looking forward to following your journey to fitness.

Best regards,

Stacy

Denise - Gosh Meg…good for you! I joined my husbands gym about 6 months ago and we are doing “clean eating” as a lifestyle change now. It is amazing what some prep time and twice a week cooking does for your well being! I love the sweet potato/quinoa patties (I eat them cold sometimes for a snack…my recipe might be a little different) I’m praying for your success. Love your blog and instagram. Thanks for sharing your life…

Kate - Today is Day 6 for me, so I can tell you – the leg soreness does ease. Replaced by ab soreness, arm soreness, and then oh hai – leg soreness again! ha ha! It hurts everytime I have to squat to sit on the potty. I mean, wow. TMI? Sorry.

Kristen@fit2feelbetter - I’m doing the 21 day Fix too! And oh my gosh I can still eat so much food. Good for me food that is delicious and full of flavor. My favorite lunch is Mediterranean quinoa salad. {In Fix language that is 1 yellow, 1 1/2 green, and 1 orange and I usually throw in a purple on the side}

Brittany - I’m with you! That stuffed peppers soup looks SO good! I made this last night: http://www.ourbestbites.com/2014/02/braised-italian-chicken/ and we’re having leftovers tonight ;)Way to go on your workouts and healthy eating!

Darcie - For dinner tonight, we are making… date night. 🙂 It’s been too long!

Kristen - Keep it up!! Soo happy for you!!!

Michelle from Australia - I had to Google ‘luck charms’ to find out what a bowl of them is. Nothing something that has made its way to our shores as yet!

Jenna - Stuffed peppers are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I hope you like them! I want to try all of these!

Stephanie Wilson - I am all over the lettuce wraps and the salad in a jar! I am making turkey meatloaf, red mashed potatoes, and green beans, all with turkey gravy for dinner. Love your website!

Colleen - we are having eating well’s version of chicken marbella… my kids love it… which is truly the clincher but mine are picky.. and yours sound, well, worse! Try it you will love it and maybe your kids will eat it (while ignoring the prunes and olives) !.

here is the link if interested
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/chicken_marbella.html

Debbie - Your blog has lead me to so many other great sites. Thanks for the links to these great recipe sites! You do the research so I don’t have to! 🙂

Tanya - The Thai Red Curry soup and the sweet potato quinoa patties look delish. I have moved past my love for peppers, it’s over for me 😉
Way to go on the workouts!

Cara Yeh - Way to go! I haven’t felt sore in years… perhaps I need this! 🙂 We’re having miso cod for dinner. I hated fish until I married my Asian husband; now it is a favorite!

Jenn - Yum! They all look good, but the Asian Cobb Salad is calling me. I’ll probably make that one first! Way to go on completing 3 workouts…its hard when you’re sore.

gina - it is time for me to eat lunch so all of these look delish!! thanks for sharing the recipes. in this months Martha Stewart’s Living magazine there are 4 broiler plate dinners that fit in with the 21 Day Fix perfectly!!! and are yummy. I am making the broiled spicy pork and pineapple tonight but i probably will go easy on the spice so the kids can eat it 🙂

Necole@seriouslysassymama - I love the sweet potato quinoa patties. Quinoa is one of my favorite things to eat. I am making bourban chicken tonight. The only bad thing in it is brown sugar and a pinch of ketchup. I will be having quinoa with mine, and everyone else will be having rice. Asparagus and broccoli are our veggies. I need to loose 5-7 more pounds, to see if it will help my bum knee.

tasha roe - thanks so much for recommending this a while back! i signed up and am doing it with Marta. She’s so sweet and encouraging. 🙂 Hubby is even doing it with me. I am amazed at how full I am – can’t even finish the containers.
