not so good.

it was the kind of night you just want to end.

rushing out the door just as craig got home.

parent teacher conferences….back to back to back.

one ran so late with the family before us that we missed our last one.

kids in three different places….one hit in the face with a soccer ball…one calling in the middle of a conference….one yelling at the other when we walk in the door….us feeling guilty for missing the others game.

burned dinner because of the late running (45 minutes!!) conference.
i had dinner in the oven…planned ahead…so we could eat together.

food that is only for school lunches eaten after school…out of boredom.

angry parents.

angry kids.

tired parents.

tired kids.

hot bath.

cold beer.

the end.

here's to a better tomorrow…..

watch this…it's funny.

everybody loves JT….especially me.

***craig says i have been writing a lot about my feelings recently.******************************
i said something rude back to him.
then said "i've got a lot of feelings!!!"

you don't mind me talking about my feelings….do you?
and i guess if you do….i can't really do much about it.

i gotta be me….

christine - Meg, I haven’t visited in a little while and I’ve been reading back seeing what you’ve been up to. I paused and watched this little video (headphones on). I was giggling so much that the hubs had me play it back again so he could listen too. Ah, what a much needed laugh we both got.
Again, I’ve not been visiting lately…and haven’t read back too far, but I’ll just say this – share your feelings, sister. Be open, real and transparent, just like you always are. It’s refreshing and encouraging, and sometimes it’s nice knowing that other people go through the same ups and downs, ins and outs.

Michelle @ Faith, Trust, and a Little Pixie Dust - That was such a fun video. Thanks for making me smile!
Warmly, Michelle

Suzanne - love that you share your feelings…wish everyone would be so honest and real in every day life.
love you Meg.

Julie - thank you for sharing your feelings, and for posting that video. it made my day!

carols - What, and no pictures of you when you took out the burned food?! I still laugh when I think of the one day you were a tad grumpy and undergroomed…and shared the pic with all of us. Been there, done that, and thanks for sharing. I’m sure it’s a bit uncomfortable for Craig (and Nick and a few other blog dads) that so much life is hanging out there. They’ve gotta know it comes with the territory of having such a fabulous lady as their spouse. Double posting here…your fashion finds are fab, gotta go copy them quick. Smile.

Dina - Jimmy Fallon will be my next husband… yes, he will.
πŸ™‚

Karen Gerstenberger - It’s YOUR blog- you can talk about anything you want to! No one has to read it if they don’t want to…and I do want to. I love your blog. God bless you. The men don’t have to understand everything.

Cori - I like your feelings. They feel an awful lot like mine on any given day. Thanks!
I don’t think I’ve ever commented before but I’m Cori and I lurk around here terribly. πŸ™‚

Christina - Goodness gracious. What else is a woman going to write about? Not to be awful…but, that’s what there is. haha
We’ve had some pretty terrible days here lately. I wish I could turn back the clock (sometimes 10 years, ha!), but like you say, here’s to a better tomorrow.
Although, that’s what I said yesterday, and I’m pretty sure today was worse. Oh well.
You write what you want…it’s your blog. We all love it. You are for real, you know? It’s not always all rainbows and sunshine. Except for your banner. There it is always rainbows and sunshine. But that is as it should be. πŸ™‚

Betsey - That video was pure awesome-ness! Put a smile on my face and my husband loved it too! Thanks for sharing!!!!!! Not only the video, but sharing your honesty is the best. I appreciate you!

Amy Petz - I love that clip! Thanks so much for sharing and please continue to share your feelings. It is nice to know that it is possible to be awesome and real.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Awesome! I giggled and shook my booty. Rock on.

dani - This is Hilarious! As I am reading about your burnt dinner, I am burning ours! It is so funny that my kids totally know what to do- calmly they turn on the stove fan, open all the windows,
and then continue on with whatever they were doing. It happens all the time here obviously πŸ˜‰

peta - talk away. a problem shared is a problem halved.
hope today is better!

Leigh - you write about anything you want. We wouldn’t click here daily if we didn’t like being here! You are very real…

Kate B. - When I was a kid it was Michael Jackson. Now it’s Justin Timberlake. Thanks for sharing!

betsy - I knew it! We would totally be friends in the real world πŸ™‚
I’ve been watching this video all week of my boyfriends, Jimmy & J Timbo. Who DOESN’T love Justin?
Sorry it was a crummy day … just so you know, teachers hate conferences that run that long, too! I actually started to run a timer at my conferences to avoid that situation!

Maria - sorry you had such a yuck day…hopefully the rest of the week is better.
Love that Jimmy and JT video…I just tweeted and facebooked it out just the other day!
Speaking of twitter….are you on there somewhere?

Sarah - That video is AWESOME! I love me some JT too. πŸ™‚ It’s funny, my husband said something like Craig said to you yesterday also. I think it is great to express what you’re feeling. As far as I can tell, honest is better than hidden and miserable.

ashley - Aaaaw! Bad days stink. I have one so far, and I feel hectic. I sometimes don’t know how you do it. I hope it all starts looking up for you!
And as for feelings, thanks for being honest. It makes the peanut gallery feel normal. πŸ™‚

Stacia - Love your blog and that you share your feelings. πŸ™‚

Lisa - I hate days like that! Always wishing it would just end so we can start all over. I also hate when I end up being grumpy at my husband cause of having a bad day. Hoping the rest of the week is much better.

Routhie - I love hearing about your feelings. Makes me feel normal.

Jennifer - Honesty…a great virtue and one of the many reasons so many of your followers keep coming back to your blog. You are a voice for so many mothers out there who put their heart and soul into this thing we call motherhood. It is not an easy job and there are days that are just downright icky, awful and stressful! Thanks for keeping it real, Meg.
I can feel your pain though on the husband’s remark…my hubby often tells me he thinks I put “TMI” on my blog. I think it’s just a guy thing! πŸ˜‰

Kimberly - Today is just one of those days I would like to curl up in my favorite chair with my favorite pajamas with a cup of tea and weep. Weep for things that have been so hard lately. Weep for the loss of my Uncle. Weep for hard lessons. Weep for grown children who no longer sit on my lap. Weep for weepings sake. And I sooooo appreciate you being honest and real and making me feel that I am not alone.

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - You are soooo normal and I love that you write about it!

Courtney Walsh - been there.
and i love that JT/JF video. we watched it the other day and it made me fall in love with Jimmy Fallon all over again. I mean, I knew Justin could do that but was kinda clueless Jimmy could add “Rapper” to his list of talents. πŸ™‚

Jennie - hate stinky days like that. love your vulnerability and authenticity on here – and really love that you ended the day with a cold one. hope today is better!

Kimberly - I wrote an eerily similar blog this morning… and I L O V E Jimmy and Justin :))

Tara - your honesty is why I keep coming back.
love it.
don’t change.
glad God made you!
you make the world sweeter.

Diana - It’s YOUR blog, YOU write what YOU want. You do NOT have to apologize for anything that YOU put on YOUR blog.
{big hugs} for a better day β™₯

aimee - don’t days like that just SUCK! way to top it off with a cold beer!

BULLYMAMA3 - Thanks for keeping it real…and for that awesome J.T. video…a bright spot in an otherwise dreary day!!

Gina in Louisville - i like your feelings

crystal - I LOVE it when you talk about your feelings. Those are definitely my favourite posts. They just make me feel normal (because I have the same kinds of days)!

elisa - right there with ya sister. Feel better πŸ™‚

purejoy - someone didn’t say when it rains, it pours for nothing!
life can be chaotic. it’s okay. and if you want to pour out your heart… it’s okay. that is what we’re here for (not to listen to a steady stream… but we support each other, that’s what i meant). i think my husband’s greatest fear is i’ll pour my heart out for the whole world to see (yep. all four of my readers) and he’ll look bad or something.
he’s not a fan of blogging/myblog/facebook. can you tell? haha

Julie - Bring on the feelings. I have a couple of empty barstools that are open for therapy and some brown sugar in the pantry.
Stuffed feelings and the guise of a perfect life can only do one thing… make one CRAZY!!!!
I love the mess. The real, messy, mess.

Cris - Thanks for posting the video! It made my day!
I figure if people don’t like feelings they can go elsewhere. Thanks for “keeping it real”.

Courtney - Love your feelings πŸ™‚
Love the video! Thanks for sharing!

jen - well, that video just made my whole week!
ill be hijakcing that for my own blog soon.
and… feelings are a good thing.
glad you do share them!

merlin - We are trying to make talking about feelings a priority in our family. Without judgement. Culturally we aren’t supposed to show our feelings, it seems more socially acceptable to bury feelings in alcohol or drugs and then find and get help for that secondary “problem”. So,I try to be grateful for the show and communication of emotions, especially the uncomfortable ones….at least they are being expressed. Blindly I hope that this will be enough that none of us will be or become a statistic of addiction or violence.
You have a big supporter of communicating feelings from this reader.

Elissa - i only have three kids, but a lot of nights feel like your post. it’s good to share πŸ™‚

Mindy W - I hope to be encouraging. Some days just end up going down the toilet but if you can still give glory to God in the end that’s what matters.
Don’t mind us readers’ comments. We either just had a day like yours, am currently having a LIFE (me) like your day, will have a day like yours or must be dead since who does not have a day once in a while(?!). Hang in there and be encouraged!

Tam - Oh sister, who hasn’t had days like that?!? I appreciate you for keeping it real! You are my favorite daily read, I look forward to your posts….and JT and Jimmy? PERFECTION! Thanks for sharing!

Laura - Hooray for not having it all together every day! There is no “normal”.

Suzanne - Thx for the video clip! Looooove it!

Janice Freeding - You are always complaining about something. WHy don’t you thank God for everything you have.

BriBedell - 1.I am NOT looking forward to when my chidren will have parent/teacher confrences…*shakes in fear*
2.Let it out. All those feelings. Husbands don’t get it, if you have good people to tell them to. Better them, than him. Am I right πŸ™‚ (well certain feelings of course)lol
3. I could watch that video all day long!

Kerry Wiebe - I’m just so glad you are normal!!!

april@gingerbreadgirlblog - But guess what??? You made my night yesterday by being the first person to leave a comment on my blog!!! I was so happy!!! Thank You!!! Feelings are OK….my husband would have said the same thing…lols….Im a teacher and parent conferences always suck…so if you’ve gone this long without a night like last night you’re doing REALLY GOOD!!! Hope today is better….

Tracy - So sorry you had a bad day, take comfort in knowing though that we ALL have bad days and if we didn’t then, well, we wouldn’t be human. Bad days keep us real. I love how you are so honest on your blog, it keeps you real.
Hope you have a great day (or at least a better day than yesterday) today!

tasha roe - JT is the best! Did you see him with Andy Sandberg on SNL? It was only like a minute long, but still very, very funny!

niki - I LOVE JT!! Thanks, that made my morning.

karenjean - Meg,
We all have those days. As for writing about your feelings, I have to say that that is one of the reasons that I enjoy your blog. You are so real about you life. I find that and you inspiring. I am not sure how you do it but keep it up!
~Karen

patti - yesterday was hard for us too. and I’m embracing today as a new day. oh, and by the way, I heart JT too and I laughed so hard at that the first time and again and again. πŸ™‚

Phoenix_Rising - I like when you blog about the occasional bad day or huge stress in your life. NOT that I like you have those things, but you make me feel normal and you make motherhood into a universal condition… if that makes sense. Please don’t stop blogging. Our blogs are where we can release our inner thoughts and workings.

MGF - Thank you
Thank You
Thank You
Thank You
I really realy needed a GREAT laugh this am.

virginia - i don’t mind! it helps me realize that i am not alone in my crazy :0)

Jennifer Tracy - Your true feelings combined with your sense of humor are awesome to read! I have 6 kids and I can relate.

Dana@Bungalow'56 - C.r.a.c..k.e.d me up, when you mentioned Craig’s comment. They try to be so helpful, at oh-the-so-wrong moments. I laughed because the conversation could have been in my house. Love your feelings! Especially when they come with your wonderful photos.
Dana

annie - meg, i’m a friend of a friend of a friend…who has been reading your blogs! thanks for posting your feelings-i am so there, right with you! it’s good for mom’s to share!

Krista - Well, it can only get better from there, right?
Thanks for the awesome clip, I have shared it, too funny! I can never stay up that late and miss his show.
The blog is free therapy for sure, so share away, you know we’re all in the same boat together!

Suzanne - I think you should be commended for trying to attend that many parent teacher conferences on one night! Sorry about the dinner…that would be a bummer! I’m hoping that today is a better day! And for the feelings…it was your birthday…I think that makes people think and evaluate their life. But, my husband would say the same thing as Craig…and I would probably say something rude back to him!

Keri @ Keri's Korner - I hope that video made you smile cause it sure brightened my day and made me laugh.

shauna - i am grouchy this morning.
now i am smiling.
really, who could not think JT is so cute and funny?
i loved that clip.
maybe i WILL feed the children now πŸ™‚
instead of just giving them gruel.
hahahahaha!

Sugar Mama - Those kind of evenings make me become the type of mother/wife I do NOT like to be. I’m a control freak and I hate when things seem out of whack. I seriously start coming undone when my family is all over the place.
About the feelings, I’m assuming mostly women read your blog, and we all GET it. It helps us all feel normal and relate to one another.

Leigh - This is your blog, not Craig’s. When you share your feelings, I feel much less alone. I’m so sorry you had a disappointing evening, but there is a comfort in knowing I’m not the only one who has similar experiences and responses to those situations.
You are a blessing. I appreciate you.
Leigh in Virginia

shelly - Meg–it must be a girl thing to get! We all have a lot of feelings and sometimes its nice to know we’re not alone in this messed up, running late, burnt dinner world—and its ok to take a bath, have a beer and call it a day! (That was me last wednesday by the way!)

Judy - thanks, I can’t stay up late enough on the east coast to watch Jimmy.

Karen Lehmann - how did they remember all that? my three year old and i LOVED watching that!

Meredith - It’s your blog and you can talk about feelings any time you want. I’ve had days like that when the best part is going to bed and ending it. Hang in there!!

Lisa - I like it when you think out loud πŸ™‚

jennifer - That clip was awesome! And so are you. The fact that you’re honest about how you feel is what keeps you real and that is why I enjoy your blog so much. Maybe today you could cash in that raincheck for the martini lunch. πŸ™‚

regina - I think you are awesome!! LOVE how real you are! Wish we were neighbors:)

Amy - It’s awesome that you can get past the icky day. JT and Jimmy Fallon were greatness!

Christy - OMG!! totally rockin out to that JT clip, I luv it

Adrienne S - I like hearing that other families are just the same as ours! Sometimes I think I am the only one who has a crappy day like that.

Staci - I love you and your feeling Megan!!!! And I do hope you have a much smoother day today!!!! Love ya Bloggy Friend πŸ™‚

Kimberlee J. - I vote for feelings.
No surprise there.
Sorry about your yucky day.

kat - Oh, days like that are exhausting!!! Good thing today is a new day! Love that clip, it’s so hilarious!

Meredith - Tell Craig that you could always stop talking about your feelings on your blog and instead just talk exclusively to him….all the time….about everything….because men love that! Hope you had a good night’s sleep and wake up to a new, fresh, happy day. Meredy xo.

vanessa - It’s your blog, and you can cry if you want to πŸ™‚ Of course you can atlk about your feelings! And if it makes you feel any better, we have those days at our house too!

pam - Reminds me of “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”.

Julia - Chica-consider this free therapy.

Peggyrice@gmail.com - I love that video, my husband showed it to me a few days ago and it made me laugh out loud. Our parent/teacher meetings are in French and I always leave more confused and than informed. Here’s to beer and wine. Cheers!

Melanie - Sorry that you had such a terrible day. Some days you do just want to go back to bed.
Here’s to a new day!

Heather R. - Why we read you…you have good and bad days, too…
The video made me smile. Thanks.

Grace - It’s disappointing when a day doesn’t go well.
But it’s doubly disappointing when you put a lot of effort into coordinating something, and it still doesn’t go well. Sorry that happened. It’s frustrating.
The only good thing about a bad day is that it comes to an end, and you can say, “Tommorow will definitely be better!”

Tyler - Thanks for keepin it real! The clip is great!! It made me smile!

Kat - One of those ARGH days!! We all have them.
I love that you talk about your feelings and that you are REAL!
It makes me feel better about all the feelings I need to get out.
I hope tomorrow is a better day.’
Go do something nice for yourself tomorrow.

tara - keep the feelings coming!

Ashley - Awwww Meg, I have had those days too. Hopefully tomorrow you will wake up to a BIG cup of coffee and a great day!! LOVE your blog… and your feelings!!

Lisa - Bummer about the burnt dinner, and the crazy evening. Dont you just hate those times when everything works against you and the stress is through the roof.
I say let the feelings flow girl, its your prerogative.

Tracy - Awww.. I hate those kind of days – they are the pits! I hope today is a much better day for you all. Big hugs, Meg! :o)

Erin - In a world where people are taught to hide their feelings and pretend like everything is always ok, I think your honesty is refreshing. Hope today is better for you.

Selina - What a horrible day! I hope tomorrow is better for you! I love hearing about your feelings. At least they are real.

michelle - you are SO AWESOME Megan! your realness is a treat in this superficial world. you make me ache for you but then you turn around and make me laugh my head off. all in the same post!
today will be better. it’s wednesday!

Susan - I am sending you the Biggest Hug and i know tomorrow will be better.Off to bed now…Night Night!

solid gold

did you used to watch that show?!

i am sorry.
this post has nothing to do with that show.
but i started typing the title and Solid Gold came to my mind.
then i googled it.
OH MY.
i spent the next ten minutes laughing so hard i was crying.
that is the funniest thing i ever seen.
it didn't seem that funny in 1981.

Latoya Jackson comes in at 4:45.
the Rocky theme song is at 8:00…..YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THAT.

then it loses sound after rocky.

wasn't that a good way to start your saturday?!  craaaazy.

anyway…..
this post was supposed be about my gold mirror i found at the antique store last week.

IMG_5109

it was $9.10 and it said FIRM.
cracked me up.
"i won't take a dime less for it!"

IMG_5111
while the kids did rainbow wind catchers….i painted my mirror.
and then i hung it up!

now our kitchen has a turquoise mirror for checking your hair before school..
seeing if you have syrup on your chin…
mom having eyes in the back of her head….

it's magic.
IMG_5316

IMG_5322

i can't resist.
here's one more video.

they are kind of…..
dirty?

sorry if your eyes are burning.

Valerie Page - Where did you find that cute red purse? I am looking for one just like that:)

Jennifer - Your mirror is a shocking pop of color! I love it but I completely lack the creativity to come up with stuff like that. πŸ™ It looks great.
I loved me some Solid Gold. The costumes are so revealing and their moves look like stripping moves. Those poor women in those heels! I really didn’t think the first clip was too bad until the Rocky part. ????????? What the hell was that all about? I always thought Marily McCoo was beautiful. Do you remember that she’d get to feature one of the top 10s of the week? She alwayas slaughtered it! hah! And where did that Steve Perry/Kenny Loggins song come from??? And Oxo? Or even that Paul McCartney song. I must not have been into music that year.

Heather R. - Solid Gold Dancers…ha! I love the mirror. Pretty. I have a hall mirror with book pages decoupaged on it. πŸ™‚

julia - thought I should come clean…the pics of your kitchen are in my “fantasy kitchen” folder on my computer….

jtbuggster - luv luv the mirror!

pam - you look gorgeous in the ikea cupcake apron!! πŸ™‚ love it.

melanie - i cant believe my mom let me watch this! hahahahahahha!

the whyte house - is it from the antique store just passed the train tracks?? if so, that’s cheap for that place! πŸ™‚ the mirror looks great and really pops in the kitchen. nice find!

Katie - Just wondering what kind of paint you used on the mirror?

Dee - My favorite on Solid Gold was the muppet, Madame. Hehe. Love that mirror. I’m going to paint a chair that color today.

jeanne - The mirror is perfect! We were not allowed to watch Solid Gold..unless mom wasn’t around and then dad would turn it on:-) HAHAHAH……now I understand why. My sister and I would go out in the garage and make up our own Solid Gold moves…I am sure you want to see them right now!!!!

amy jupin - i used to watch this show religiously but i totally must have blocked it all out of my memory. was every episode this bad? surely. but how could i not remember just how bad it was????!!
when that girl dancing to duran duran started doing the worm i spit out my coffee! actually, i need to show that to john…
p.s. love the mirror!
love the turquoise!

Krista - I forgot about that show completely until you showed it today. I watched it every week, like one of the other posters I too was from a 4-channel no cable household. I remember the really thin dancer with the black hair down to her waist, she always got the solo dances, I guess she was their “best”. Funny, if it was on today, I think my girls would love it, and I’d be worried that the dancers didn’t have enough clothes on!

Katy Stone - i love the color!!
on a completely random, unrelated note, I made your meatball recipe (in Africa!) this week for my hubby and his pathetic-starving-bachelor-best-friend and it was such. a. hit. (ok, so they’ll eat anything, but they’re still raving over them!) consider your recipes now international. πŸ™‚

Susan - I noticed your counter tops in the kitchen are always shiny and have alot of reflection.Could I ask you what you spray on them to keep them that way.

Jennifer - Evidently I told my kindergarten teacher that all I needed in life was my parents and Solid Gold. My babysitter loved it. ahahha!

heather - love the mirror AND love the solid gold flashbacks! who didn’t watch that show? how the heck else were we supposed to know how to dance to The Reflex? LOL! That was too funny!

Farmers Wifey - Oh THAT show..we got it here too in Australia…words really fail me except to say, I love Latoyas glittery headband…..

Ashley - Ah, nevermind. I see now… Waffle treats. πŸ˜€

Ashley - I love your kitchen and I adore the mirror! Ok, I have to ask… is that a huge jar full of gummy worms? Awesome.

Christina - It’s amazing what your eyes can see!! No pun intended. πŸ˜‰ I don’t have the gift of looking at something as it is, and seeing it as it could be.
Including myself. hmmm.
You are a wonder! I love the wind catcher, too.

Juie - Meg, I love the turquoise color. Oh, and your leopard cane back chair. And that red purse. And the subway tile & black granite countertops with the white cabinets. Ok, it’s just weird how much we have in common.
And by the way, thanks for linking to my knock-off PB USA Chalkboard in your sidebar!

Prudence - loved solid gold, sister and I would gather round and watch it weekly! the spandex body suits, the dance moves, it was fabulous!

Dandy - I would totally have passed over that frame and though ugh, who wants that? But then you painted it turquoise and its gorgeous! I love the color scheme in your kitchen, the pops of red and turquoise are perfect.

Lorie - I LOVED that show!!! My sister and I would LEAP off the footstools in our living room. I also love the mirror, by the way….you always have such good taste!

Mandi - Love the turquoise mirror with the red EAT…they are my wedding colors!

j - I love, love, love your mirror.
And I used to watch Solid Gold (we didn’t have cable).

Tracy - that mirror is not only magic it is perfect! Nice touch.

Valerie - Oh my goodness love your mirror. I’m really into decorating with grey and white right now, but I love how you use color in your home. Such a fun post!

Peggyrice@gmail.com - And I thought Beyonce was an original, turns out the leotard and booty, hip shake have been done before;-)

Kristin - Love the mirror – very fun! Now I am going to be looking for one I can paint orange and hang in our kitchen.

Denissa - HAHAHA!! I LOVED that show when I was 7, thats what I wanted to be was a SOlid Gold dancer…nice! And yep now it does seem really dirty, especially for the time.
The mirror is perfect! I’ve been on the hunt for something w/ a frame like that, no luck yet..love the turquoise! πŸ™‚

Jessi - Off to copy some more…. πŸ˜‰

callie grayson - love the mirror!
and why do I not remember this show?? I do not ever remember watching it.
xx
callie

Heather - fantastic!!

Holly - love that mirror. what a great project!

Ronda - Great project! What color and type of paint did you use?

Ali - I love that mirror!!! Ugh! At your antiques store, it says $9.10 FIRM. At mine, it would have said $29.10 FIRM. Antiques in CA are so $$$! My sis bought that same mirror at a flea market already painted turquoise and it was $40. Ah well, I guess it’s marked up to make up for the ocean view πŸ™‚

jennifer - That is SO awesome! The mirror… I haven’t watched the video yet.
What color and kind of paint did you use? I’ve got a mirror that could really use some help.

alaina - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the frame! Whoda thunk it?!!! Your
Be filled with Joy” or the other one you bought would also be cute in that mirror frame. Thanks Meg! I just might have to try my “uncrafty” hand at this…now to find a mirror! Happy weekend!

Keli Cook - Nice score, Meg! I’m off to do some garage sale-in’ myself!

nikki @ nikkisnacs - the mirror looks GREAT in your kitchen!

Jessica @ One Shiny Star - Hmmm… the 80’s. Delicious.

Jen R - This is why I LOVE visiting your blog….a darling turquoise mirror re-do AND Solid Gold…all in one post! Thanks for a laugh this morning!! πŸ™‚

Lisa - We used to tell our daughter (who is now 28) that she could be anything she wanted when she grew up EXCEPT a Solid Gold dancer.

Karen Lehmann - whoa. there was a whole lotta shakin going on there. and I’m not sure it was good. πŸ™‚

Kirsten J - Oh my – yes! I wanted to be a Solid Gold Dancer, doncha know. And we were just trying to explain to the kids the other day about American Bandstand…..they didn’t get it.

Kori - The mirror turned out great, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the videos! I watched that show every weekend and loved every minute of it…apparently I still do. πŸ™‚ Your blog is awesome and I can’t wait for every new post. I have one question that maybe didn’t make your list, or maybe I missed it…is Talby a family name, or just something unique that you and hubby came up with? I’ve never heard it before (my son’s name is Guerin-sounds like Darren-so I hear that all the time), but I love it!

beth - LOVE your painting apron! I need one… Love you posts. You are an inspiration and you always put a smile on my face.

the domestic fringe - The mirror is great and I LOVE your kitchen!
-FringeGirl

Meg - oh meg! every time i see your kitchen, i literally swoon. and of course, i love the mirror!

kristine - 1. do you think solid gold is a clash of american idol/so you think you can dance 80s style?!
2. “you can’t get what you want if you don’t know what you want” YOU WANT TO DO A BACKBEND AND KICKOVER IN A RAINBOW STRIPED LEOTARD! haaaaaaaa hahahahahaaha
3. rocky-whoa!!
4. wish i could hear the music for “let’s hear it for the boy” – guy looks like a great dancer!!!
5. the mirror looks awesome! love the splash of turq!

Daniele Valois - LOve the turquoise with the red letters and red purse! Yay!

alamama - hahahahahaha! i used to want to be a solid gold dancer! ugh! they are dirty! love your mirror!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I kind of hope the $9.10 seller happens upon this post and sees that you “ruined” her fancy gold mirror by PAINTING it TURQUOISE! Can’t you just imagine that she found the goldness and the glitziness to be the very best part? “This mirror is GOLD! I won’t take a dime less than $9.00. No, $9.10!”
I love your turquoise mirror. It looks tres West Elm. It’s a perfect fit.

Danielle - WOW! Love it!!!!! Awesome mirror, great color choice! Looks fantastic!

Amy - I have the same apron! Love it!

patti - I have that same mirror, sadly it’s gold but it’s been by the front door for years now and it’s what we use for that last minute check your teeth/hair/whatever before you leave. I like your color better.

Lorie - The mirror looks great! I love your kitchen! The video…not so much! ;D

Charlene@Adventures-In-Mommy-Land - LOL Love the videos, Solid Gold was a must watch back then…what were we thinking??
Love the mirror and your apron is So Cute, where did you get it?

Marla - Clara saw some of the first song on the Solid Gold clip and said very seriously “That’s ridiculous! Look at their clothes!” I especially liked Latoya’s one black glove, but was bummed I couldn’t hear “Let’s Hear it for the Boys”.
Love the turquoise!

Jill - Great mirror! I love turquoise and red together.
Solid gold… I LOVED that show as a young girl. I didn’t remember it being so risque. I’m gay (of course I didn’t know that at age 9), and now in retrospect I think I understand why I loved that show so much! Ha!

Jessica Hoffman - I still love all those songs on Solid Gold… is that bad!? Love the POP of the mirror!

Jessica Kujawa - awesome! i love the mirror, and the EAT letters, and that chair…swoon!

Marisa - Cute mirror. Gorgeous bag!!

Edie Wadsworth - Hi-Larry-Us! And love the mirror. It’s perfect right there. And it happens to be my favorite color. Very awesome tribute to you on Farmgirl Paints. She’s right ya know, you’re pretty awesome!
Happy Weekend!

Gwyn Rosser - I LOVE that color. I have several cans of a beautiful turqoise that I’m having t restrain myself from using….everywhere. Great look for that mirror. It just fits perfectly with your absolutely delightful kitchen. I love the colors in your house — very energizing.
Also, cuuuuuute purse! πŸ™‚ on a very cute chair !

Janie Fox - I loved the video… I was a newly-wed so I could watch if I wanted and I did!! I was a fresh college grad but secretly wanted to be one of those dancers… skanky dancing!haha Thanks for the re-live I loved it. Love the mirror too. One of my favorite colors, just below my fav PINK.

Amy Lynne - You are too funny! I remember Solid Gold being so cool when I was a little kid! Your mirror turned out beautifully! It always amazes me what a can of paint can do. Have a great weekend!

Amanda - Ok, thanks for the morning laugh!!! 1981…I would have been 8 yrs old and when someone asked me what I wanted to be it was “a solid gold dancer!” Now I see why I had to fight with mom to watch that show-lol. They do seem a little risque’ now, eh? The risers they used to dance on look like the old planters from our mall we used to sit on before they remodeled in the 90’s-lollllll.
I love the mirror btw, adds a great little pop of color in there! Great idea! (and looks like the same robin’s egg blue I used on my daughter’s desk :))

Kristi - That is so cute! I love, love, love the punches of aqua and red. It is such a fun retro color combo!!! Now I just have to hunt down a fun mirror to paint!!

Megan - Oh man, those gals can move! The Adam Ant one cracked me up. I remember watching this all the time, we loved it!
Loving the color you chose. The mirror looks fabulous in the kitchen!
Megan

Jill - love the mirror! maybe new baby and i need to go thrifting today and leave the big kids home with dad. πŸ™‚

Jessica - ditto Tara!! Thanks for the laugh!! Awesome mirror!! What color paint is that?

Tara - and this is why i come to your blog every.single.day.
you are hilarious.
and real.
i love that you didn’t move the window cleaner off your kitchen countertops when you took the picture of your kitchen with the new mirror in all its awesomeness.
you inspire me to LOOSEN UP.

Michelle - I loved the solid gold dancers when I was a kid! In fifth grade, when hair bows on a clip were popular in my school, I got a bright gold one just so I could pretend I was a solid gold dancer. Ahhhh good times.
Thanks for the laugh this morning Meg!

Cori - Love the mirror in your pretty and clean kitchen! Loved the video! Sometimes I like to blare reruns of Casey Kassum shows(Sp?) in my kitchen on Saturdays, (They play it on the 70’s channel on xm) I am totally dating myself!! I love to hear him say “Now here’s a new song from a young man, Mr. Bruce Springsteen” I close my eyes and I am young again too!! Until I hear Mommy, Mommy, Mom Mama Ma Mommy and I am Back!
Enjoy you weekend, Happy Anniversary.

paige - great redo! looks super duper cute in your already super duper cute kitchen

Kat - Will check out the video’s later, as I do remember Solid Gold, lol.
Just had to say the mirror looks fab. A real pop of colour.
I already love the red in the EAT letters and love, love your red handbag!!
Those rainbow sun catchers are gorgeous.
I must do those with my kids, seeing it is holidays here in little o’l Tasmania, Australia.

Red Nomad OZ - Your mirror is fab. But Solid Gold? Now THAT brought back some even more fabulous but embarrassing memories. What were we thinking back then?!?!?!
Happy travels!

Sophie - What a gorgeous mirror! I LOVE how it looks in your kitchen (:
And those videos are hilarious! I live in England so it was never on here, but I feel like I need to watch me some more of that.

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Oh, my!
When I read ‘Solid Gold’, Soul Train popped into my mind.
Sooooooouuuuul Train!
Oops, wrong show, right decade!
πŸ™‚
LOVE this mirror!

Lisa - Cute cute cute. Love the colour, love the idea.

Dana@Bungalow'56 - Just curious what kind of paint you are using. I have some gold gilt frames I want to paint but wasn’t sure if a regular can of leftover paint would do the job?
Dana

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Oh my eyes! The googles, they do nothing!

Mandy - I love it! My kitchen has recently been painted in a similar color scheme!

best commercial ever….

Rose Ector - Hehe! That is easy! Love the look on the kids’ faces! Very successful pitch on the part of Staples. At that time of the year, we parents can have a good kick out of our children’s back-to-school distress.

Bruce Hershey - I’ve seen a similar TV commercial here in Toronto. I must say, that is one of those commercials that make the viewers go laughing and thinking at the same time. I mean, just look at the faces of those kids, dreading about getting back to school while their dad’s dancing around to low prices.

Heather - yes!! This one and the one with the little girl and Alice Cooper are my favorite ones this time of year. “I thought you said,’School’s out for EVER.'” πŸ™‚

Laura - YES
YES
YES
YES
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bernice - Hahaha I distinctly remember watching that when I was still in elementary school! It was a Friday evening the first time I saw it. My dad thought it was awesome.

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - Absolutely my most favourite commercial ever. I’m glad you found it. I may have to use it in a few weeks when its our turn to go back. Thanks.
Dana

Kerri - LOL i remember this commercial from when i was in school my dad LOVED it but i groaned now this makes sense to me πŸ™‚
Kerri
NewParent.com

Lisa - haha funny funny funny

Maria - love it! had to immediately put it on my fb and tweeted it out…

Vicki Esh - Hilarious! Thanks for the good laugh!

Amanda Jo - This IS the best commercial ever! I nearly died laughing the first time I saw it. My son, Ethan, glared at me in disapproval. Good times…

Krista - Thanks! I haven’t seen this on TV this year yet and I always look forward to it at back to school time.

Dana Banana - It never gets old. Love, love it!

Victoria~ - I love this commercial! As soon as Target sets the back school section; this song plays comes to mind. kids grow up so fast but man, do I love when they’re gone for a bit…it helps to appreciate them more. lol…

Nikki - Hahaha… thats so funny!!! Thanks for sharing.

Gemma - I love that advert!! I’ve only ever seen in on Youtube…I wish they’d show it here in the UK!!
Gemma x

Julie - Oh that’s funny. We don’t have American TV so we miss all those funny commercials. Thanks for sharing. πŸ™‚

Stina - I agree! I laugh everytime. Then I remember that I’m planning on homeschooling and am instantly annoyed with everyone who sends their kids to school. lol.

Beautifulinspirationdesigns.blogspot.com - That’s so funny, because I just saw this commercial the other day and thought ‘this is the best commercial ever’.
They play it year after year and it never gets old. It’s still as funny as it was 3 years ago.
Love your blog!

Jennifer - I so remember this from when I was in highschool. My mother lovedd it too! Looking forward to hearing how your day went. My kids have been back for two days and I still am adjusting. I didn’t sleep well at all the night before, so I took a little nap today. How lame is that! I love how you described that you are taking time to figure out who you are. Love that. I have a 3rd and 5th grader, and I spend a lot of time at their school doing stuff…trying to see them whenever I get a chance. My heart still aches for them even though I know this is where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be doing. It’s all hard!

Casey - Love, love, love it. So very true. My mom had 6 kids and rejoiced every year when she could say, “Early bedtime! Tomorrow’s a school day!”

Meredith - Love it! And we’re not even in holidays at the moment:) Good luck with getting all five lovely ones off one their first day. Do you have a “Tissues & Champagne” morning for all the kindergarten mum’s? We have that here and it’s a fun way to meet….over tears and laughter. “Laughter through tears – that’s my favourite emotion!” One of my favourite movie quotes ever. Meredy xo.

mary - hillarious!
almost as good as the geiko commercial with the pig hanging out the window going “weeee” all the way home!

today i feel like this.

i know i have posted it before but it is just too true.

i may need to be incarcerated pre-emptively like a wolfman.

can we just start school already?

please?

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I think I just fell off the couch!

Elizabeth - I had never seen that before — so funny!

Kelly - I wish I could tell you it gets better as you get older. I’m in perimenopause (which often starts for women in their 30’s) and my PMS is getting worse!
If/when you ever need coping advice for perimenopause, the site Power-Surge had good message boards. Here are the 35 most common symptoms of menopause: http://www.project-aware.org/Experience/symptoms.shtml

Routhie - Made my morning. You are not alone.

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - oh my – I SO needed this today, I feel ya girlfriend! πŸ˜‰

Liz with Four - that was sooo funny…i almost peed my pants!!!

j - HILARIOUS!
I’d never seen that before πŸ™‚

Heather - So exactly right! I’m ready to be led away for a couple days of solitary . . . ah, that’d be lovely!

Jen - Right there with you. Maybe we can be cell mates.
Sigh………

Jodi - That just made my day….I just wrote a post on my bleh feelings. That pretty much sums it up. I am going to share on FB!!! Love it. You are awesome!

Alisha Gibb - I love it! I’m pregnant and I’m certain my husband thinks I get this way on a weekly basis! LOL! Thanks!

patti - right there with you my friend.

Rachel - Hush…don’t say that S-word. I’m a teacher and I’m just not ready to go back yet. I’m savoring the last remnants of summer. So, shhhh, leave us in peace a litlle while longer please.

Krista - That’s the first time I saw that, so funny!!

Christine Ishmael - My husband LOVES that one!

Sarah - I completely needed to laugh my a*# off. Thanks for the video.

Holly S - HAHAHA Yes!! That was great, thank you.

citymouse - I have never seen this before. Lord knows I feel like this some days (period optional).

Jaime - Um. Right there with ya. Except, my kids started school last week. Now the only person who has to deal with me is… well, me! lol…
Hope time goes by queekly for ya! πŸ˜€

Lori - Oh my gosh! Hadn’t seen that one before! BTW, it hurts to laugh while you are drinking soda, and the soda comes out your nose. Just sayin…

Angela - Ugh. I just started back for the first time in 13 months. (I have a 4-month-old, lol.) I wish it were time for school. But my three sons are all too young. HEEEELLLPPPP!!!! πŸ™‚

kat - My husband and I laughed hysterically at this skit. It is one of my favorites for sure. Especially the line about the hat…

$6 well spent

dave bought two tarps at costco and a bottle of tear-free baby shampoo.

he and craig taped the tarps together, turned on the hose and we had an instant homemade

SUPER SIZED slip n' slide!

IMG_9048
everyone used the shampoo on their fronts to be more slippery….IT WAS AWESOME!

IMG_9062
it came more natural to some of the kids.
and frustrating to others.

IMG_9067
IMG_9148
we finally had to bribe them….one dollar for any kid who can make it to the end.

IMG_9016
IMG_9083
IMG_9531
it was really far.
but suddenly everyone was out on the hill and had won their dollar.

IMG_9541
IMG_9517
we called lauren outside.
i told her if she would do it…..then i would do it.
she said "if you do and i do….then jenny has to do it too"
and she added "NO PICTURES"
deal.

IMG_9139
no pictures of lauren….i was fine with it.
and jenny is always fun.

IMG_9140
dave took some video.
i adore it.
he is shouting "DOLLAR!!!" and everyone is so happy.

that night i uploaded my pictures from the day onto the laptop.
i started clicking through them and others joined me in looking through.
then we got to craig's pics of ME going for me first time.
everyone is looking and i started clicking faster trying to move them OFF of ME.

and i am not kidding….there were 38 pictures in a row.
he caught every split second of it.
i had it on action setting and he just held down the button.

i was screaming with hysterical laughter as i kept clicking and clicking trying to get to a cute kid
instead of ME in my MOM suit….RUNNING.
i kept yelling "NO! OH NO!!!"
we were watching a slow motion movie with way too much detail on full screen….yikes.

it was very very funny.

so last night i highlighted them all to delete them….and then i thought….
it WOULD be funny to make a movie of them.
i am over the embarrassment of it and just think it's funny now.

and now….without furthur ado….
6 seconds of embarrassment.

i was sore the next day.
it's not really meant for grown ups….but it really was fun.

shelly@familyblt - I love everything about this post. Such a good idea for fun!

Melanie - Meg, you are so much fun! We just love you for it.

Amy Bogan Griffin - You are soooo AWESOME!!! Thanks for showing us!!!!

Quinn - I love, love, LOVE when bloggers post videos… it’s like seeing their photos come to life. Almost surreal, almost as if you guys are suddenly more real then I always thought you were. Anyways, looks like tons of fun. I think I might put this on my list to do this summer.. hm.
Hope you guys are doing well. πŸ™‚

Lia - that is the COOLEST thing ever. i wanna do it!!!

Alisha Mancinas - YOU. ARE. AMAZING! I wanted to email you the other day, to show you some rainbow soap I came across on etsy or something, but my mac wouldn’t let me because I use gmail, and when I click on the e-mail me link on your blog, my comp wanted to use it’s email program. It was frustrating. πŸ™‚

julia - these are mom suits???? I have three very similar to yours. why didn’t anyone tell me???

Chicago jen - Great post! Not enough pictures of Dave though. Lol about the pic of you!

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - Oh-so-awesome! I love that everyone participated – your still shot video is such a hoot with the added soundtrack! What a good sport you are!

tami - thats fun!!!!

Joanna @ The Casa - Love the video! You are such a fun mom!

jennibell - Sorry. . .meant Craig. . .

jennibell - The video was so much fun. But really, your picture of Dave was the BEST. . .what great memories.

Garner6389 - The baby shampoo is a great idea.We have something in common. We get Migraines. Not sure if thats good or not!!!!!

Vera - Love it! I’m so crabby in the middle of the night – with a headache and all the kids somehow piled in MY bed – but your post made me laugh. Thanks!

Carey - You’re such a champ, Meg. I love your candor and authenticity. I love that you write about being crabby one day and then bounce back with this happy snapshot of your vacation on the next. I have four children that are 5 and under, so I’m well acquainted with “so crabby,” but I know your joy of being of mama, too. So glad to “know” you and your family through your blog.

Liz@HoosierHomemade - I loved seeing the pics. We made a slip n’ slide last year, and the boys loved it. We bought one this year because youngest son was having some friends over for his bday, it lasted 1 day…geez!
Looks like a great family time was had by all!
~Liz

Genn - THAT looks like some serious FUN!!I will have to remember this grand $6 idea.

Jess Mead - Very creative! I LOVE IT!!!!!

Monica Huete - It looks like you all had a great time !!! Sooooo fun !!! … ^__^

I love your gusto!
Great Stuff!

Kimberlee J. - My first thoughts were…will she? Will she show the pictures of her going down the slippy slide? No she won’t. SHE WHAT? She posts a photo collage video? You rocked that so hard. Awesome.

Jessie - That was awesome Meg! Loved that you did it too!!

Rachel / cREaTe - love your lil’ video. πŸ™‚ love that the camera was on that setting & you had that many photos! HILARE! and the kids! i’m dying laughing at the thought of all that. πŸ™‚

Sandy - Great fun! That looks like a wonderful time…must tell my sister about it for her kids and the hill in her backyard!
Not to sound stalkerish but, if I were you, I’d totally have that picture of Craig in a frame next to my bed. You’ve got a looker there, girl! πŸ™‚

tara pollard pakosta - so fuN!
and your kids will LOVE that video of you one day!
showing you were there and present and a FUN MOM!
tara

Jaime @ Mamarazzi - Meg… what a great post and a wonderful idea for the slip and slide. If only we had “hills” here! lol…
I guess with enough water, baby shampoo and plastic, one could fly eve if horizontal! πŸ˜€ Might need to try that!
Love the video! πŸ˜€ Too cute!!

Juli - more = my. Sorry, I’m tired, been teaching VBS all morning!

Lori - What an awesome idea! And your video is too because you are such a good sport to share it. So funny, you know how to make me laugh out loud at my computer almost every day!

Juli - Slip ‘n Slides were way more fun before we had boobs, weren’t they? My best friend & I “bought one for our kids” (that’s more story, stickin’ to it) when they were toddlers. We were SO sore the next day! I’m sure it didn’t help that we were still nursing!

traci in virginia - How fun was that!!!? Thanks for sharing! You are a great Mom and make me smile!!! I am a widow with two kids and I try to make sure my kids are having fun! Your blog is so helpul for that! Thanks so much for all you share!

marie tere - I think looking at the videos makes that crabby face smile. And I am so quick to delete pictures of me. But then think, that’s who I am and that’s who my kids will remember in years to come. Love the idea, must look for hill πŸ™‚

Secondly, you rock my socks! I’m so glad that you had a fantastic vaca. I’m also very glad that you shared the highlights with us.

Keri ~ Forever Folding Laundry - SO fun!!! Those are the types of slip-n-slides my dad made us as kids, but we never took it to the shampoo level of awesomeness. πŸ™‚ Money SO well spent!!

alamama - very cute! loved seeing this in the morning! glad to see a happy face on you!

Susan - I absolutely love this idea. How smart. The regular slip-n-slides are way to short anyway. Yours works well, but it looks like you have a little bit of a down slope. I bet it would be great for innertubing down in the snow too. Awesome idea. I’m heading to Home Depot.

Megan - This is so awesome, how fun! I think everyone got more than a dollar right? Great idea and love the price tag!

Nicole Q. - You are such a good sport . . . i think that’s one thing that makes you a great momma!!!

Dina - You make me laugh! Your blog and my coffee are the best two things of my morning:-)

Elizabeth McDonald - Awesome….that is all I can say…AWESOME!

Niki - What a blast! You guys are such fun parents! And your swimsuit is a CUTE mom suit!

amy - I LOVE it, that’s awesome!

Kelly - I absolutely loved your post. What makes it so fun is your participation. It’s nice to see you in it once in a while! I love the yelling “Dollar, dollar! You’ve got a buck!” You guys are so much fun. Your kids are going to have the best memories and stories to tell later on!

Cate O'Malley - love the idea – even better that everyone can have a blast in their own backyard without spending a fortune – great memories!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh that looks like some good ole’ fashioned fun. You are so cute slidin’ down the tarp..4 seconds just wasn’t enough. I wanted to hear you talk:)

jess - you rock!!!!! how could you not go down that great slip-n slide!!!!!

Shann - Those are such good pictures Meg! It looks like you had such a good time with your best friends up here in Michigan. I remember doing a slip-in-slide a few years ago. You are right…it is a bit harder for us moms. πŸ™‚ Your swim suit is really cute by the way! Have a good Monday! πŸ™‚

jackie - Looks like you all had a great time. We had friends that had a gigantic piece of rubber that you make inner tubes from, and they did the same thing. They put it down, kept the sprinkler running over it, and baby shampooed, and baby oiled it up, and the kids had a Blast!! It is so hot here too. 100’s w/ the heat index everyday. What a way to stay cool, and I bet you were sore. Have a great week. Jackie

Barb - When you look up “good sport” in the dictionary, there’s a picture of you! πŸ˜‰
Looks like it was a great time. What a fun person you are.

Tasha Griffin - Oh, how fun! We have had some good times on giant homemade slip and slides as well…baby shampoo is a MUCH better idea than baby oil like we used! Looks like you guys had a blast!

So sad… your Canadian friends are not allowed to watch. After reading the above comments though, I’ll check it out on youtube. Laughing is always a good thing! I just posted today about my Sister friend who makes me laugh better than anyone, her name is Megan too. There is something about that name I tell ya!

this looks like my kind of movie.

***i received a fun surprise in the mail this week.
i never really knew amy (the designer) because she is the much younger sister of my friend's husband.
i remember she was a tiny little girl.  :) very petite.

IMG_1056

she has an etsy shop filled with really cute custom stationary.
she made some for me.

IMG_1055it it was obvious to me that she knows me in real life.
they say Megan.
not Meg.
πŸ™‚

i love them amy….thank you so much!

****and another thing:

Leon

***did you see the movie Almost Famous?
it's old.
it's from 2000.
recently craig was talking to someone and they said they had never seen it.
WHAT?
we love that movie….it is so so good.
Philip Seymour Hoffman has a minor role and he is classic.
so…if you never saw Almost Famous…do it.

***my
chicago friend Julie has been doing a self portrait project this year.
her rule is that there are no rules except she has to take the picture.
i want to copy her.
so i am.
here is my first self portrait in my project.
stretching at home after i ran 3 miles…alone…without stopping!

***last because it's the best:
i have an opening for pictures on MAY 25.

email me if you want that spot.
it's taken.  :)

Kim - check out jessie baylin – wife of the drummer from kings of leon. oh my goodness such an amazing talent!!

Courtney Walsh - the thing about Almost Famous that struck me was Kate Hudson. It was her first movie, before anyone knew who she was and there’s that scene where she realizes the rocker dude doesn’t love her and she is AMAZING in that scene. It is so raw and real and I don’t know if I’ll ever forget it!! Love it.
Like the self portrait. πŸ™‚

Molly - ooooh I want to see that movie so bad! And I love kings of leon…and Almost Famous!!
