i still love it.

sunday's coming.

Stephanie - I’m not sure how I stumbled onto your blog, but I’m so glad I did! I’ve been reading for a while now and, while I love your everyday posts, the Kansas-centric ones have my heart. I’m a Lawrence native who has now lived all over the world with my military husband and you give me a dose of mid-America just when I need it. And to see someone else’s view of my AWESOME hometown? Perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Alicia D - wow, what a great day! these photos are aMAZing!! im jealous of your camera… and your eye.

Mary - wow!
that VIDEO! i’ve never seen it!
but i love it! thanks for sharing!
xoxo
ps. i totally need a girls day. for SURE!

Alicia @ La Famille - was JUST thinking to myself that i need a shopping day! i need new running shoes and some summer stuff. call me next time, k? πŸ™‚ also, I am from sd (currently living in nc, but still) and i’ve been to sturgis during the ralley so i get that whole label and all that craziness. kinda cracks me up you were drinking south dakota wine…how was that anyway?? πŸ™‚ happy day to you!
xo,
alicia

ko. s - Now that is a fun girls day! I could use one of those! Happy Easter to your sweet family!

Londen - Looks like a perfect girls day! Happy Easter to you and your family Meg.

Connie - Love the rain boots…where did you see them?

happygirl - He is Risen, indeed! Happy Easter, my friend and the girls day looked MAHVALOUS

Jane@Kenwood BM450 - Looks like you all had a fantasic time. Happy Easter to you all, and donΒ΄t eat too many Easter eggs.

Jacci - Care Bears! awesome πŸ™‚
Happy Easter, Meg. Hope you have a joyful day celebrating.

Mary - Starbucks in Emporia, KS!! We stop there everytime we visit from Colorado; inlaws in Salina and my parents in Garnett.

lorel - Had such a nice time with the girls! Just exactly what I needed. Love you – Happy Easter!

Amy Schulz - Prairie Berry Winery! Another wonderful wine is Red Ass RHubarb….. delicious, and again another odd name.
Happy Easter!

Candy - We love Lawrence! Some day I am going to be walking down Mass, and see you and start screaming! So, just a warning, hope I don’t freak you out too much! πŸ™‚

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Looks like a fun couple of days. Have a blessed Easter Sunday with the family tomorrow. Sunday’s comin!!!!! Praise God! πŸ™‚

Heidi DeGroot - I found your blog about a year ago and have been keeping up ever since. I have never commented before, but it really surprised me to see South Dakota on here! I am from Brookings, SD originally and live in Aberdeen, SD currently. I have not tried Prairie Berry wine yet, but I do love the Schade` Vineyard wine. The vineyard is in Volga, SD where I went to high school. Their rhubarb wine is very good. Love all the neat stuff you find on your adventures:) Happy Easter!!

Amy - LOVE LOVE LOVE the pic of you, your Mom,and Grandma…so much joy. Happy Easter!

April R - oh I wish I had a sister and mom to visit with and all that – thanks for sharing!
so thankful that
Sunday is coming
Sunday is coming
Sunday is coming

Melia - I was going to ask if the wine was from Prairie Berry and then the next pic showed the label! I’ve never had that one, but I adore that winery. If you ever have the chance-go! Love “Gold Digger,” “Calamity Jane,” and “Red Ass Rhubarb.”
Long time lurker…love your blog πŸ™‚
Melia

Kristy - Love the dress! Where is it from?

Brooke - we’ve been watching that video all week. πŸ™‚ my two year old’s have been saying “it’s Friday…but Sunday is a comin’!”
happy Easter!

Molly - Mmmm… Sylas and Maddie’s. I’ve been wanting to go there…

Kerry Wiebe - I have trained the girls well of course they picked milk and cookie earrings πŸ™‚
Have a great Easter my sister!! See you in church!

Heather B - Oh gosh, I love Sarah’s Fabrics. That store is my grown up candy store! I love shopping on Massachusetts St! And you are so fortunate to get a picture inside Claire’s. My 13 year old daughter and I got thrown out of Claire’s for taking a picture of her wearing some of their glasses! The manager said we could have been stealing creative ideas! We just laughed and went somewhere else.

sullyj - Thank you for the video…a great reminder for us all. Hope you and your family have a great Easter! And I would LOVE to know where you saw those zig zag rainboots! Would love to get them as a birthday gift to myself πŸ™‚

rae - haha, i’m cracking up at the sir. my husband got called ma’am once, and he has a buzz cut…and is 6’2″, and looks nothing like a woman! we still laugh about it!

Jennifer@beautyinbloom - He is Risen, Indeed!
Happy Easter!

Melissa - Thank you for sharing that video, I hadn’t seen it. What a wonderful reminder! Happy Easter to you and yours! It looks like you had a great time on your girls day – I have two kids, both girls and I can’t wait til they get old enough to have eating out/shopping/fun days with me. Right now they are still a bit young, my youngest is 18 months and the older just turned 6. She enjoys a good Mommy & Me day, but the younger one still doesn’t really enjoy leaving the house. Someday! πŸ˜‰

shannon - Shopping, Ice Cream, Wine, Family, Park, Love your girls day, it sounds perfect!
Hope you and your family have an amazing Easter!

ok moving on….

it has rained EVERYDAY of spring break.
ALL DAY.
and i was not prepared for that.
there is MUD everywhere.
we have practically ruined every pair of shoes we own….in four days.
IMG_8536-1

what do farmers do with their dogs???
do you bathe a farm dog?  or just let it go?
do country folk just not have indoor dogs?

IMG_8517-1

these are things i need to learn.

craig stayed home today and we had a family day.
i wasn't convinced it was going to be any fun with all the crankiness that was going on before we left.
and the weather….it was ominous……AGAIN.

IMG_8538-2

first stop….home depot.
isn't it always?

IMG_8540-3

and our plans for mini golf were messed up from the cold so we went to the movies…last minute decison.

IMG_8544-4
i took the girls to the Lorax….they'd already seen it.
and craig took the three oldest to the Hunger Games…i think they bought the last four tickets.
our theater was showing it in almost every theater every half hour!
kinda wish i'd gotten to see it.
but the Lorax was good.
πŸ™‚
made me remember that i don't want to live with regrets.
i want to make a difference.
my kids watch me so closely to see if i will cry…i only got misty eyed this time…annie called me out.

then we hit the bookstore.
IMG_8547-5
my stack i browsed through.

IMG_8553-6

sean spent some of his gift cards he had.
annie read as many Piggie & Elephant books as she could.
and i wished for a few more hours and a starbucks and silence….but we moved on.

IMAG0561-1
chilis for dinner.
perfect place with the ball games starting.
it was interesting to observe that all of my children are old enough now (suddenly) to order their meal, have conversations the whole meal….without crying or fighting….and laugh together…it was pretty cool.

i think i like them!

we drove home and FINALLY the sun was shining.
i said "wow…i had no idea how bad i needed that sun?! it feels so good!"

scott left for basketball practice and i told the kids to play outside till it was dark.

IMG_8583-7

IMG_8589-8

she wanted to show me how fast she could ride.
last week she said "i think i was going 120 miles an hour!!!"

IMG_8603-9

i stepped out on the main road to see the sun set….i took this for Pam.
she loved the sunsets on her kansas farm.
miss you pammie.

IMG_8604-10
annie had come out to see the sun set too and then i told her she could go on ahead as fast as she could.
she did.

IMG_8608-11

i stopped to take this picture and as soon as i snapped it i heard a crash in the house.
the kind that you wait for what comes next….

while arranging her bedroom lauren dropped the glass top to her dresser and it broke everywhere.
she cut her arm and was bleeding a lot.
oh my.

craig pulled up in the driveway 2 minutes later and took her to the ER….13 stitches….ouch.
she is fine.
she is making cookies right now as i type this.
but still….OUCH.
(you are welcome for not including pictures)

there is never a dull moment in a big family.
ever.

i think i am ready for bed…..it's been a really full day.

i will go to sleep smiling about World Water Day.
i love how God uses blogs to bring us together for a greater purpose…HIS purpose.
it really is SO COOL.
all of us from all over the world working together to help others.

in the words of the Lorax….
"Unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
It's not
."

sleep well.

and thanks again.

Susan - Wash waffle as many times as he needs it, there’s no way he’ll want to stay outside without the kids. Sometimes a good toweling can work wonders too!
Good luck and love your new place, what an adventure!
Happy Monday morning to you,
Susan

Julie KG - So happy World Water day raised so much money!!! And no, farmers don’t have farm dogs…I grew up on a dairy farm and our dogs were always covered in EVERYTHING. Plus, not to be gross, but dogs will eat anything they find on the farm, even stuff sitting on the ground after a cow gives birth, if you get my drift πŸ˜‰ Hope that last comment doesn’t ruin anyone’s next meal.

Amy @ Little for a Little While - What gorgeous pics. It’s our dream to buy an old farm in the country. Your pics pretty much seal the deal πŸ™‚

Jess - Farm dogs are definitely outside dogs…at least on our farm. We do let Lucy in our mud room and even that is a little much for me. And she definitely doesn’t get bathed often. She takes care of that herself by bathing in our lagoon. Nice. Can’t wait to hang out with you a little this weekend!

Alice H - Quesadilla Explosion salad is my favorite!!

Karen - We are farmers and don’t know one single other farmer that has an indoor dog. Not only is it because of the “dirt” they would bring in, but it is also your respite from taking care of all of the (outside) animals when you come in the house to get away from work. (Hahahahaha! Like that could actually happen to a mom!) Besides, farm dogs prefer to be outside. They get to be dogs that way. Plus they serve a great function of letting us know when something is amiss or someone has arrived by barking! Do we still love them? Yes! Do they still love us? Yes! But it gives us time away from each other too!

Tina I - So glad Lauren is ok! That must have been scary! This was one of my favorite posts about your family. Love reading about your new country life. Today is our last day of Spring Break and was hoping to spend it at the movies with the kids, but then one of the kids has to go and get in trouble and lose the privilege of the movie. Ugh! Debating if I should give in….you guys made it look like such a fun day. Now, if I could just trade the Arizona desert for a day on a midwestern farm…….

Christina Self - We are on a farm and have a small indoor dog, Jackie is a jack russell terrier and she gets baths all the time. Where we live is more rocky than muddy so it doesn’t get to bad, but she does occasional roll around in something not so pleasant so she is a frequent bath taker. I actually think that she loves taking baths because she will hop right in the tub for me and stand perfectly still while getting clean. Love that pup!
The pictures of your little girl on this post remind me of Ramona Quinby. She looks spunky and fun. You have a beautiful family!

shauna - smiling at you from cali tonight…love reading your life.

Jen @ Paisley Print Shoes - you have such a fun blog!! i love it. and i love how God uses blog for His purpose too…isn’t it so cool to see how He can move in every situation! love it!

Wendy - My 2 dogs are trained to jump right into the downstairs tub as soon as they come in. I wash their feet and legs with a big plastic beverage pitcher … usually I have to dunk each leg into it. I only give full baths when I have too. Good luck.

Tami - I love reading about your small town KS adventures. We moved to KS when my kids were in high school. They went to a christian school and we had games in some pretty interesting places. I loved every minute of it though. Some of my best memories were made during our time there. Now we are in KY, and that’s a whole different world!

Jen - Farm girl here, no inside dogs. Inside kitties are OK, they wash themselves, but no inside dogs!

Maria - Our weekend consisted of camping with the cub scouts. Hunger games and Chili’s sounds good to me though…minus those stitches…ouch! We made it through the wknd minus any injuries until the last thirty minutes, then one head bump and multiple rope burns for two boys. Sigh, oh well. No blood and no vomiting, so I guess we’re good.
All is well now after hot shower and my cushy bathrobe and in about 2 minutes or so, hunger games book #3…until I pass out for a much needed nap.
One more week till spring break!

Maria Bryan - I love the stories of a big family…you are right…never a dull moment!

Meredith - So glad you are enjoying the farm so much. I think growing up I always wanted a farm with a lot of animals. I would love to have room for chickens but my neighbors and our dog would not have it. I love your quote from Lorax. I am going to post that in my house somewhere. It is worth reading every day. Have a blessed Sunday!!!

andrea - We live in a small town but have lots of mud this time of year. I keep a towel by the back door and EVERY time the dogs come in their paws, legs and bellies get wiped down.
Read in one of the comments that someone suggested Bogs boots. Found them last year and they really are the best. My kids wear them almost all year round. They are soooo comfortable.
I grew up on a farm. We always had good shoes and mud shoes. Also, shoes came off at the door. I do this now too. (But usually there is a path of mud to the bathroom! _grin_)

Mandy - We live in the country with our five kids too and yes our lab and our schnauzer both live indoors. Yes it’s muddy and its smelly sometimes too. Weve lost 10 animals to coyotes, bobcats, and packs of wild dogs! Our hearts can’t take another loss. As far as ruined shoes go, all my kids each have a pair of mud boots.

niki - i, too, live out in the country. no indoor dogs around here. we’ve only washed our dogs once, and that was because they smelled from eating a deer that they killed. good news is if waffle is like our dogs, he will enjoy swimming in the pond when it gets warm….instant bath.
best advice is to have ‘dirty’shoes for outside only. those and a pair of rain/muck/mud boots. they will save ya a fortune at the shoe store.

Becky Joyce - Hi Meg, posting a comment from my hospital bed, where I am on day three of Operation: Get Well. A bad flare-up of colitis landed me in need of major meds, nutritional supplements, and rest. But as I lay here, I’m reminded over and over of the thousands of people who will die today from lack of clean water. I may be suffering, but I will not die of diarrhea like so many others. I praise God not only for access to clean water and medicine, but for blogs like yours they call attention to just how simple it can be to help. So thanks, Meg, for bringing attention to this most important need. Glad your readers chipped in and can help make a difference! God bless you!!

Rachel - I have a standard poodle pup at our farm. Yes I know it doesn’t make sense but we keep him in a cut similar to Waffle only with a ball on his tail and fluffier ears! He loves playing outside and swimming in the creek (sometimes the creek helps out a bit!)and getting muddy as can be. Honestly it just depends on how clean of a house you keep or want to keep. Depending on how bad he is we throw him in the shower for a rinse. Otherwise, I hate to say it but we just let him go. Last week he had a spot of mud on his side from one of our friends dogs for a few days.
Oh my goodness. I have a phobia of glass dropping. Had never had stitches of any kind and I played coliegate volleyball, my first job out a college I tended bar and served for a catering company. A girl dropped an entire tray of glasses in front of me. 13 stitches in my knee. Awesome. Over 4th of July. Such a same! But at least she is ok!!
Hope your weekend is well!

Laura Phelps - LAUREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO sorry.
I hate that moment after a crash…you wait to see…crying? screaming? was it nothing? Hate that.
that dog is muddy
I have been complaining about little dirty paw prints from my tiny doggie
do you need to bathe a dog every day?
clean the floors?
good grief
this is all new to me
i like hearing stories about your family
we really are all the same, aren’t we???
miss you

mollie's mom - Meg. I am passing on some sunshine in the form of the Sunshine Award
http://madebymolliesmom.blogspot.com/2012/03/spread-little-sunshine.html
because your blog is one of my favorites. I may put meeting Annie and talby on my bucket list πŸ™‚
Marcie

Sarah - “I think I like them” – LOVE IT. x

Tami - Should have added that we have hardwoods too. No neighbors anywhere for miles and we do own 9 hens and have our own eggs so you could say we have a mini farm, I guess. LOL

Tami - We don’t live on a farm but we live in the middle of the mountains where it rains a lot during the Spring and Summer. I also have 5 kids (although mine are younger) but the dog cannot stay in my house. She stinks and never has a bath and is always dirty so she stays outside. She sleeps on our deck outside our bedroom door. Love her but can’t handle a stinky mountain dog in my house. So just thought I would share that with you. I am amazed at how much you get done with your family. You are super mom!

Marianne - Sucks that you had a rainy spring break! Our March break was full of sunshine and 25 degree Celcius weather- which is completely unheard of (no clue what that is in fahrenheit)!! I got a sunburn in March!!!
We had an indoor farm dog. That’s what mudrooms/backrooms/garages are for. When it is muddy outside and they come in, they have to stay in the mudroom until they dry off and most of the dirt falls off. They still get a bit of dirt on your floors but it is just regular dusty dirt and not wet, muddy dirt. Farmhouses just get dirtier and have to be cleaned more- or are just dirtier than town houses. πŸ™‚ I don’t recall ever bathing our dog except when she got sprayed by a skunk.

Holly - Country dogs dont get bathed that much. My sister gave up on her carpet. She lets it dry and vacuums it once or twice a week. She has work shoes and crocks for the yard. No work shoes once she gets in the house. If the driveway is muddy we take off shoes in the car and walk barefoot over the muddy gravel.
Glad lauren is ok. Ouch!
Hope the rest of your weekend is sunny.

Melissa - My husband and I live in the country and we rarely bathe our dogs unless poop is involved. Instead, we keep a dog towel by the door and wipe their feet and bellies every time they come in, even if it’s dry out because who KNOWS what they’ve been stepping in out there. We have self-cleaning, short-haired dogs, though, so that might make a big difference πŸ™‚

colleen from alabama - We have had sunny days for spring break except for 1 1/2 days of rain but also did the movie and chili’s. I laughed because it looks like ya’ll ordered the same things we did! That roasted corn guacamole is AWESOME and my husband would sell a kid for the quesadilla explosion! (kidding) Hope the arm injury doesn’t mess with Lauren’s volleyball! Last night i had 2 extra kids spending the night and today it is SUNNY! Have enjoyed extra time with the kiddos though (most of the time, we did have our moments). Hope you have a great last day of spring break!

Alisha - Country folks do have indoor dogs. We do. He’s a small dog so he’s easy to bathe, but what other country dwellers do is to keep a towel for the dog by the back door and wipe down his feet, legs and belly when he comes in if he’s a mess. He will have to be bathed more often than when you were in town, but it won’t always be muddy either. πŸ™‚

Lisa - 13 stitches!!! Yikes! Glad she is ok!
Love how Annie dresses herself. Reminds me of my kids. Makes me feel better since some kids always look so put together and matching. My kids are completely responsible for dressing themselves from a very young age. Makes my job easier! πŸ™‚
So exciting that the Adventure Day Project raised so much money. So glad to be a part of that!

whitneybens@yahoo.com - Meg, I know you LOVE Starbucks…just thought you might be interested in this…
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/22/starbucks-gay-marriage-support-hrc-nom-protest_n_1372500.html

Lorel - It was the opposite for us! We had all sunshine, really nice, but this whole past week was rain and cloud. Bleh! Tell Lauren to feel better!

Bec - My mom had a similar CRASH experience. When they were moving into their house, she was trying to put the attached mirror on her dresser and it crashed on her head and shattered. She had a few knicks and cuts, but nothing major. My dad was in the shower in the basement at the time and ran upstairs still wet, hit the linoleum floor, and ended up putting a major hole in their brand new wall when he fell. Later he dropped a big chunk of the mirror glass on his arm and ended up with stitches. It’s a classic story in my family πŸ™‚

Penny - I am so glad that Lauren is alright. 13 stitches would be bad if it were me! I am battling the muddy dogs, too. We have three dogs, two Goldens and a doodle like Waffle. The mud is awful. We do not live on a farm, but we have lots of mud. And one that loves to dig. Ugh! I try to dry them off when they come in, but what a mess! We just deal with it and complain every spring and fall. Not fun though. I am enjoying your move to the farm! How exciting. I love being able to say I really like my girls who are mostly grown now. They are great young women. I do miss those sweet moments when we would do crafts together and watch movies and cook. But now it is different, they are like friends!

Renee - my husband tells me his mom always used to say this to him and his sister: “you know, your dad and i love you. all parents are supposed to love their children though. we really like you too”
i think it’s so stinkin’ sweet. he says it to me too πŸ™‚
let your kids know you like them!!

Kim - Glad to hear that Lauren is okay! Poor girl.
Footwear: You need boots. Rubber boots. Or Bogs. Bogs are awesome – good from 15’c to -30’c . I’m not sure what that is in fahrenheit. My kids wear them in the rain and mud and snow. They love them.
Waffle: Poor muddy Waffle! Growing up in the country, our dog was allowed inside, but only by the back door of the kitchen – no other room. And he got bathed. A lot. Outside in an old metal wash basin. We would fill it up with the hose in morning and let the sun warm the water.
Enjoy your weekend!

Holly - ouch! Poor Lauren. I am taking my 3 girls to see the Hunger Games this morning. They are so excited. As for Waffle I dont know how farm folks do it. We had a german sheperd once and it was so much work. I know one complaint alot of my county friends have is that their dogs like to roll around in any wild animal “stuff”. Yuck! Good luck! You need to inest in rain boots at the Walmarts for the entire family! ha!

drea :: dre of white stables - Wasn’t it wonderful to finally get some sunshine?! It was nice to meet you yesterday at the movie theatre. πŸ™‚

Sarah @This Farm Family's Life - We live on a farm and our dog is indoor/outdoor and goes with my husband every day to the farm. It is usually a constant battle especially in the spring time when it is really muddy. Then we have to deal with cow poo and such, but we deal with it. We rarely give him a bath because he is too big, but you just learn to accept it. He got sprayed by a skunk yesterday and we had to give him a bath in tomato juice to get rid of the smell. It is a lot better but he still had to sleep in the mud room last night. Just think of all the fun Waffle is having with all that space to run! Life in the country is great! I wouldn’t trade it for anything…even a clean dog and house! Happy weekend!
Sarah @ This Farm Family’s life

Megan - I love your blog… I wish I knew you in person because I know I’d really like you. πŸ™‚
I am really looking forward to the stage where I can say “I like my kids”. OF COURSE I love them, but at the ages they are (3 and 18 months), I really feel like most days it’s just about survival right now. Dinner with the kids while talking and laughing really sounds like a dream.
So awesome about World Water Day! And I’m glad Lauren is okay. Have a fun weekend!

Kelly - Finished reading The Hunger Games this week so I could take my older boy on an “adventure” (aka~ Mommy Date) to see the movie. We are headed there today and I’m anxious to see it. If we lived closer you could join us! πŸ™‚
Awesome news about World Water Day!
Glad Lauren is OK.
Have a lovely weekend!

happygirl - I bought LGF stock. It’s the company producing the Hunger Games movie. I’m hoping to make some money on the franchise. Fingers crossed. Do you think it will be the next Harry Potter? Hope so. Hang in there girlfriend, it’ll be summer before we know it.

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - P.S. I’m very glad Lauren was not hurt worse (although 13 stitches…yuck!)
I used to re-arrange my bedroom as a kid all the time and that has carried over to my own home. I just pass it off saying I have decorating ADD.
Take it easy Lauren:)

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Ugh, the picture of Waffle does NOT make me envy you but I laughed at your question of “what do people do with farm dogs?”
I love the picture of Annie riding out on the open dirt road. Looks like an awesome area to go bike riding-something I miss by living right smack dab in town with bumpy sidewalks and people who drive way to fast down the side roads. It doesn’t allow our girls much bike practice.:(

janet @ ordinary mom - Oh! I missed World Water Day. πŸ™ Oh well, went and made a late donation. Better late than never, right?
Love your road. We are on a paved crescent and although there aren’t many houses, there is still construction so the kids couldn’t just let it fly like Annie. Love that!

Sabrina - I grew up on a farm and the big dogs had to stay outside, they were just too dirty. My mom however, had a little lap dog that was allowed to live inside and be spoiled. πŸ™‚

Helen - Yes farmers have indoor dogs πŸ˜‰ I have three, and it almost drive me crazy at this time of the year, mud everywhere on my floors, including the cats… I try to vacuum the floors once a day. And yes we do give the dogs a bath, and then they stay clean for about 15 min πŸ˜‰ !
You have a lovely blog.
I am Helen from Norway.

Annette - I meant to say in earlier post….don’t care IF THEY get messed up shoes….LOL passed my bedtime….

Annette - Gave up on indoor dogs in the country. It was just to much to keep them clean enough for the house. We also had to go with two pairs of shoes. Good/school shoes and outdoor/don’t care it the get messed up shoes. Glad Lauren is alright.

tristan - no indoor dogs in the country..unless every.single.night. you want to give them a bath..ha..it is a hassle..we learned the hard way as well. the bigger the dog..the bigger the stink!!!
glad you had a little sunshine!!

Leah - Sounds like a lovely day! Movies, Chili’s and bookstore. Perfect for me and my family.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - WOW, that is really one full day…a day full of making memories with your amazing kids. I really think I feel a little jealous of you living in the country…I want to live in the country. I think that would be cool. Happy weekend Meg!
P.S. Please give Lauren an extra hug from your crazy blogger friend.

Terrie G - Regarding the ‘farm’ dogs…we didn’t have indoor dogs…and now you know why.
We did bathe them though…and then they got to stay indoors on special occasions…like Christmas and when it snowed big. But only in the backroom.
I’ve been thinking about our farm ever since you moved.
Today, we went to clean the shed out a bit.
I took pictures…got nostalgic and cried almost the whole way to the dump.
Annie’s bike did it to me again…our daughter’s bike was hanging in one of the bins and looked almost just like hers, only all pink. Took me back to the days of her riding down our country roads…thanks for the memories! And thanks for no bloody/stitches pictures! πŸ™‚

saturday in smaaaaall town kansas.

IMG_8096-1

we packed up and traveled to Little River, KS. for scott's basketball tournament this past saturday.
Little River has a population of about 500.

that is really s m a l l.

they lost their first game.
bummer.
IMG_8124-1

we hit their main street to find some lunch.
there were two options….a bar called Fat Boys or the grocery store.
with our time frame between games we had to choose the grocery store.

IMG_8126-1

this picture made me smile.
it was just funny.

right next to where to talby is sitting….
IMG_8132-2
 whaaa???

IMG_8136-4

and this?  hmmmm…..

my kids' favortie part of this little store was this:
IMG_8134-3

IMG_8140-6

so we had sandwiches made from the deli at Heavenly Meats & Groceries.
and they made pizza too.
annie was full of loud and silly questions for the man running the meat counter.
he let her come and see where they make the pizza.
then she was full of even more questions!

IMG_8138-5

you won't see this very often….me drinking pop. (do you call it pop or soda or coke?)
i used to drink pop all day everyday.
but realized about 8 years ago that it made my stomach a mess so i quit.
i have MAYBE two a year.
and i usually have a 1/4 of the can and i have had enough…i start to feel sick.
i don't miss it at all.

IMG_8148-2
we headed to another gym in Windom, Kansas.
population in windom is 130.
isn't that crazy?
130 people?

they won this game.  (it's a tournament of other kansas teams….not a windom team)

IMG_8184-8

we played at the school playground in between game 2 and 3.

IMG_8164-7

it was hot and windy.
but i love that sunshine for march!

IMG_8217-11

IMG_8189-9

talby shared her iPod with annie and her friend Nash.
they were watching UP.

scott's team won their final game.
they got second in the tournament.
a successful day i think….and pretty fun for the rest of us too.

craig was teasing scott a little that he couldn't touch the rim yet….maybe someday….
so scott HAD to prove he could grab it after the game.

IMG_8214-10

the strength shoes and hours and HOURS of practice are paying off.
he is getting there….he'll grow a few more inches and he'll be dunking….he hopes.
i love his dedication.
i am so proud of that kid.

i never thought i would like spending a day at a basketball tournement for 13 year old boys with 3 other kids along…..but it turns out they are some of my favorite saturdays.
i like being all together and watching scott in his element.

ok….gotta get moving on my first day of spring break.
keep giving ideas on the post under this one.
i like the garden planning idea!
that is exciting!

have a great day today!

mandi@herbanhomestead - I know this is an older post, but I had to comment! That “slap yo mama” rub. My dad is from Louisiana so I’m very familiar with this phrase. In sentence form (ahem): “This cornbread is so good makes you wanna slap yo mama!”. So there you go!

Karen Huber - This cracked me up… my mom grew up (and my granny still lives) in s.m.a.l.l. town Kansas, as in 100 or so people, as in one stop sign. I admire your ability to craft an eventful (with beautiful pics) blog post out of such towns! πŸ™‚

Heidi Jo the Artist - I love exploring new towns, looks like you guys had fun! We call it soda because my husband grew up on the east coast. Everyone around us here in Iowa calls it pop, ha ha!

Maranda - I am from that tiny little town called Little River!! Yay! I loved growing up there. And yes, do try Fat Boyz next time you are in town!! πŸ™‚

Natalie - Any tips on giving up the soda habit? I have tried several times and haven’t been truly successful yet.

Randi-Dukes and Duchesses - I just love reading your posts. I have a basketball player who reminds me so much of your son (they’re almost the same age) … he lives and breathes the game and is constantly training to be better.
But I just had to comment to tell you what a great mom you are. You spend so much time doing art with your kids, baking with them, and just giving of yourself. It’s inspiring.

Katie H - Love this post. I grew up watching my older brother play in gyms all over Kansas. Like your son, he eat-breathed-sleeped the game. He eventually was a walk-on for KU, then director of operations for the team, and he now coaches at Baker University and couldn’t be happier….but your post made me smile thinking of all those hot, sweaty gyms and car rides we made as a family. Good stuff!!

Beth - In Alabama we call it Coke. No matter if it’s Coke, Sprite, Diet Dr. Pepper. Wonder why we do that? Funny. But everyone knows when you say, “I need a Coke” it means a canned drink.

Sarah Wolfe - No diet coke for 8 years. Impressive πŸ™‚ That grocery store is hilarious. I like it when the town is so small that the gas station is a hang out and restaurant (that actually has good food) and a grocery store.

Marianne - I’m in Canada- it’s definitely pop. Soda just sounds weird. πŸ™‚

Faith Buss - OK, that Slap Yo’ Mama stuff is soooo good! I got some at a Piggly Wiggly in Louisiana (I’m in OK) because I thought it was funny. We put it on oven fries and everyone goes CRAZY! πŸ™‚ Fun post!

Wendy C - I heart small towns and basketball! Sounds like a fun weekend!

Megan - It’s too bad you didn’t have time for Fat Boys! We’ve actually made the hour trip to eat there — really good steaks!

Maria - I’ve seen the “slap yo mama” around here…never tried it though. It is supposed to be good though. They have crazy things here in the South.
I grew up calling it ‘pop’, until college, and my northern friend/roommate influenced me into calling it soda. Still do.
Our spring break isn’t until the first week of April…two weeks to go! The boys usually spend it gaming or playing outside (they never play on the computer/Wii unless its the weekend). I’m sure it will be pretty low key around here…although I am thinking we may need a little road trip somewhere during that time…
Enjoy your break!

Celia - We live in North FL and totally have that Butt Rub around here! Trust me….. try it on chicken, beef…. even sprinkle it in your scrambled eggs….. awesome! HA

Debby - Al’s sister lives in Little River! We’ve eaten at Fat Boys too. It’s a great town. Al grew up in Pretty Prairie, population 500.

Prairie Jenn - I love small town life! Yes, there are things about it that make me laugh, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Loved your photos! And we call everything a coke here:)

Sara Torbett - So sadly I’ve totally seen the “Butt Rub” for barbecue at our local meat market and recognized it right away-lol :). Fun weekend! I can’t believe you only have two sodas a year! Whaaat?! I wish I could say the same. I love Diet coke, and sonic vanilla diet cokes. So what do you drink at Sonic? (when not ordering water)

mollie's mom - I live in Atlanta – small towns like that seem amazing to me!!! Awesome , just hard to imagine πŸ™‚
We call it “Coke” because, obviously, we live in Atlanta – haha!!
And I have to comment on the butt rub t-shirt because I am from Charleston, SC and when we go to Carolina beach towns we shop at my favorite – The Piggly Wiggly- and my daughter has multiple “I’m Big on the Pig” t-shirts. Everyone just calls it “goin’ to the Pig”, not grocery shopping and it is fine for 5′ tall size 2 college girls to wear “I’m Big on the Pig” t’s but I’m not sure I need that blazened across my back. But I do love to shop at the Pig!!!

the whyte house - first off, good job, scott!
second, i lived in canton, ks..the high school is a combination of towns(canton-galva hs), where my sister graduated w 30 people. lol. my parents are still in canton, i lasted 7 mos before i had to move back to wichita. it was just too ridiculous. downtown canton had a restaurant that was only open on sunday, a grocery store and a bar. we’d go to the casey’s to get a pizza. that was the big thing to do in canton. ugh. if i had to live in a small town, i’d go to hesston. it’s not canton and it’s not wichita. just right. πŸ™‚

Michelle From Australia - We call pop ‘soft drink’. Who knows why?

Teresa - Perhaps you have a future Jayhawk on your hands!!
I live in the South, but grew up in the Midwest. I get called out EVERY SINGLE TIME I say pop.

Krissy - I have ALWAYS called pop, pop. I think it’s a Kansas thing. Being in the Navy, there’s so many people from so many places, and I havent found too many that call it “pop” My spring breaks were always spent outside (if it wasnt too cold)

charity palmer - absolutely love your blog! thought you might love these leggings my lil girl wore the other day:
http://jandcpalmer.blogspot.com/2012/03/little-croissant.html
I share your same love for color! πŸ™‚

kaylee@life chasers - This just really made me smile. We live in one of those smaaaaalllll towns and I’m pretty sure they all carry that same, hilarious charm. The school gyms even look identical. A perfect way to spend a Saturday πŸ™‚

Katie - I let the kids make a list of the things they wanted to do – kind of what you do for summer. It was great trying to read what they wrote (1st/kinder).
Tea Party
Math
Visit our cousins
Sleep over 1 night at grandparents
Ride our bikes (pretty unusual for March in MN)
Parks
Maybe your kids are too old. Hope it sparks at least one idea.

the.mrs - LOVE basketball! Hoping one of my girls will decide to take it up. πŸ™‚
Love the pop! You’re lucky it makes you sick.. it can’t tempt you that way! πŸ˜‰ I’m from MN and we call it pop, but I was really confused when I visited TX b/c they kept asking me what kind of Coke I wanted… I wanted Dr. Pepper Coke? hahaha

Roganne - The necklace is to die for! Kudos to you for not drinking any pop…I totally wish I could kick the habit!

Jen Brandt - Most of us in Ohio call is pop, and good for you for not drinking it very often!!! Think of how much skinnier you are and how much healthier you are for not drinking it. You go girl! πŸ™‚

Lori H - Yes, do tell about the necklace! I love it. I do not love soda, however. Once in a long while I will have part of a Coke Zero. Or use a Sierra Mist to make an adult bev. πŸ™‚

Rochelle - OK, I wasn’t going to comment but now I have to! Those “Hot Mamas” are made by an awesome company in my neck of the woods: Beaverton, Oregon. The company, Reser’s, makes THE best salsa, burritos, taquitos, potato salad, etc. I’ve never had the Hot Mamas, but I bet they’re pretty tasty. It’s a great local company that supports the community’s kids sports and agricultural endeavors. I bet if you approached them for Craft Weekend “swag” snacks, they’d come through.
Love your blog! And your necklace!!

Katie Skiff - Fun weekend… looked like ours. Basketball in small town MT, but the town had a few more residents. LOL… Love the t-shirt, my husband bought some of that rub, I wrote his name on it, so now it says Greg’s Butt Rub. πŸ˜› I also don’t drink POP anymore, it tastes nasty to me.

megan@contentedsparrow - 1. that “meat-like” product in a jar: SICKKKKKKKK!
2. butt rub: {snicker}
3. pop, definitely

Alisa - we call ’em soft drinks:)

Gale Wall - I’m laughing because I don’t live far from those places. And butt rub is good stuff, people πŸ™‚

Mandi Humphrey - Oh my…did you get any Butt Rub? It is so good! Can’t make it through summer grilling without it!

Seriously Sassy Mama - I selfishly would like seeing pictures of your new home!

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - In the Midwest its called Pop…then I moved to the East Coast and they laughed at me ’cause they’re all hip and call it Soda. I moved back to the Midwest and still call it Soda…but I don’t drink it…unless its a frozen coke; I must admit they are my cryptonite!

Amber - Spent the weekend in Pigeon Forge, TN watching my dd (13) play some basketball. I love the time with my family and friends. The ball team is like our second family.

Joy - Coke. It’s all Coke.
πŸ™‚ We’re planning glow-in-the-dark bowling for our Spring Break.

Leah - It’s called soda here in So Cal. I only like Diet Coke though. The regular stuff is just too sugary. Any new crafts you’ll be doing? I need ideas for our spring break.

Rebecca - The Slap yo Mama seasoning is very popular in the south! You should try it!

Jackie Kepner Barnum - Looks like a lot of fun. Here in TN it’s just called coke. It doesn’t matter what kind. Just coke. So sometimes you have to ask for it by name like Dr. Pepper, cause you just may get a 7up. ;P

Kimberlee Jost - That meat counter in Little River reminds me of the one at Dales.
Sausage anyone?
Ha.

Heather S. - I have soda (pop) about once or twice a month when I am just craving it. I, too, though usually only manage to get about 1/3-1/2 of it down and I’m done. And yes, it does make me feel crummy.

Liz Schmidt - You have to go back to Little River and try FatBoyz. They have the best steak ever!

happygirl - I don’t drink pop, yeah, pop, either. I enjoy watching your family through your blog. Your family gives me hope for the future of this country. We need more families like yours. πŸ™‚

Kathryn Goertzen - Just a small town girl livin in a small town world . . . or something like that.
In Nebraska we call it POP.
And at noon we eat DINNER. . . and in the evening we eat SUPPER.

Jimi - So, I’m just curious what you get at Sonic if you’re not getting soda/pop?

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - Megan, I always comment to the girls when I see someone with a kind face. We all try to figure out what it is, but we can’t, but we all know one when we see one. It struck me in your post today. Sean has a wonderfully kind face.
Dana

Shar - Oh what a joy of a family that you have. Treasure it girl, time will go by all too fast. My grown up son asked me what kind of an APP (for phones, etc.) I would like. I said an app to have more time with my family!

Jacci - it cracks me up how everyone idealizes small towns. BUTT RUB, people!!! πŸ™‚ There’s good and bad, just like everywhere else.
I grew up in a not so small “small” town in Ohio. But, all around us, there were really small towns, just like this. I dated a guy once from a *small* town nearby and when we went to get a movie to watch at his house, we rented it from – literally – a shack with videos propped against the walls on shelves. Totally cracked me up.

Kelly - Oh… I’ve spent many a weekend with a little-black-sharpie- marker- X on my hand, too! πŸ™‚
Gotta love the small towns! We have one stop-light in ours. And a gas station/deli that you can get a bite to eat at, too. Everybody knows everybody…. which can be good, and bad!

Rachel Spin - Please, oh please, can you give some info about that cute necklace in the soda pop picture??? I have a jewelry problem. And turquoise and red are my most favorite colors. And Mother’s Day is coming up, no? My dad grew up in a small town like that. My first teaching job was in a small town too, if 3000 is small. Happy Spring Break!!!

Tiffany - I don’t think I’ve ever been to towns that small, ever. Oh the simplicity and town knowledge that must be there. And you said it perfect, so much joy in watching your child in their element. What a joy to live to see and be a part of as a family.

i am a fan.

IMAG0549-1 IMAG0551-2

my husband took me on a hot date last night to hear the Avett Brothers.
to make it more amazing to me….it was at the Orpheum.
it's a 90 year old theater and it's gorgeously shabby inside.

IMAG0553-4
there is all chippy paint and exposed brick, very grand and over done in the details.
it is such a beautiful place to see a show….especially this show.
it is a small theater only holding 1200.
we knew several people once we got there so it really did feel like a party.

IMAG0552-3

the Avett Brothers band was very obviously having a BLAST up on stage.
they were going nuts on all their instruments…i had no idea a banjo could rock like that?!!  or a cello?!!
i have never really heard anything like it in person…..i was completely in love.
i really liked their music before but it doesn't even compare to the live show!!
it was SO GOOD!

you need to listen to them.  you need to go to their show.  you will LOVE it.

i kept thinking about how much my dad and sister would have loved that show.
πŸ™‚
i hear a lot of my childhood in their music.

i found this clip of them from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon….liked it!

they sang this at the end during the encore…not rockin' but still beautiful…  :)

then my favorite video i found was the Tiny Desk Concert Series from NPR.
it's 15 minutes long….i don't expect everyone to watch that….but i have watched it twice today already.
πŸ™‚

and none of those compare to being there.

wow.

thanks for taking me Mr. Duerksen.
you are my favorite.

i am also a fan of ginormous trees on a sunshiney day.

IMG_7792-1

this five-trees-in-one is in the yard right out the window from the kitchen and front room.
it's perfect to climb.

IMG_7801-3 IMG_7796-2

IMG_7806-1

i was more of a fan of this dog when he played in the sun and looked and smelled a little cleaner.

IMG_7811-2

he is now stinky and very muddy.
blerg.

i ran five miles yesterday on the treadmill at the gym.
i watched part of a basketball game, part of Hoarders and part of Behind the Music about PINK.
ha!
i am hoping this killer headache i have goes away so i can get back out today and get a run in….
maybe…..
if the sun comes out again it would sure help my motivation!

happy monday to you.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - We are newly obsessed, too. (We always get to the cool stuff late.) Cory goes around singing that song about “if he dies in the city”. It freaks me out a little.
That venue is slaying me.

Mindi - We love love love the Avett Brothers! We are going to see them in June! Can’t wait we are super excited. My 6 year old loves, Die Die Die, my 4 year old loves I and Love and You and my fav is January Wedding…probably! For our anniversary I made my husband a sign with our last name and the line, “always remember there was nothing worth sharing like a love that let us share our name.”
So glad you enjoyed the show!

Christy Brenneman - Never heard the Avett Bros before. Love that music! Waffle looks like he’s having a grand time in the country! Loved that tree so much…a great climbing tree.

A Facebook User - Sweet! We saw them Saturday night and scored VIP tickets in the front row (because I’m a uber-geek — such a geek that I have a “Backwards With Time” tattoo and am planning a half-sleeve around other favorite Avetts songs — and hit “buy” immediately when they came on sale). Seth came off the stage and gave my son a guitar pick, thereby cementing his place as Henry’s favorite (formerly Joe Kwon! Sorry, Joe!).
They don’t get boring even after seeing them multiple times, I can assure you. (I’m hinting that they’ll be in Tulsa in a few weeks and again at Crossroads KC this summer, but I won’t be able to go because my due date is getting too close and my husband hated Crossroads last time we saw them there).

Emilee Prenevost - Ok so this has nothing to do with your post, but I was blog surfing and found this post and totally thought of you πŸ™‚ http://www.landeeseelandeedo.com/2012/03/rainbow-roundup.html
Oh and I love your pics of Waffle! My dog’s name is Meatball…lol πŸ™‚ He’s a gray mini schnauzer πŸ™‚ he would have fun playing with Waffle πŸ™‚ love ya!

Stephanie - This is so funny! As I was reading your blog I was listening to The Avett Brothers on Pandora! Love them! Waiting for them to come to California so I can go see them. I am even more excited to see them after your review! πŸ™‚

Heather - I’m a fan of Avett Brothers. If you haven’t checked out The Polyphonic Spree yet, you must! Some of the most uplifting music I have ever heard and great for all ages!

Michelle - Yeah Avett Brothers! My 1st experience was seeing them live in 2007 at NC State’s homecoming. AMAZING!

Shauna Howington - Came back to reread your post and rewatch the clips. Yeah, I love them that much! Ha! What a treat that Bob Crawford was back on the bass, since his little girl has been so sick.
I love when the NPR guy asks Scott if he swallowed an amplifier when he was younger. πŸ™‚

Dina - I.was.there.last.night.TOOOOO!!!! The Avett Brothers are amaaaazing! We had the best time! Had I known you would be there, I would have put my ‘Meg stalker skills’ to work:-)

Rachel - Went to an Avett Bros concert a few years ago w/o having ever heard of them. It was probably my favorite concert of all time… and now they are one of my favorite bands of all time. So so fun and entertaining!!!

amy jupin - semi-obsessed with the avett bros.
yay for date night!!

Sara - Love the Avett Brothers – how fun!

Capricious - Love your sunshine, Waffle and tree pics! I look forward to your posts everyday! I am from Kansas and miss it so. I love how you love Kansas, color, crafts, and Sonic! I posted a link to a blog today with a print that made me think of you since we share a love for Sonic drinks! Congrats on your move!

Andrea Jeanne - I am so jealous…I love them. Glad you had a chance to see them in person. I have heard that they put on a great show.

Lindsey@ Piecefully Home - we’re huge avett fans around here, esp. their early stuff. i’ve seen them a lot and each time is fantastic. πŸ™‚

Katie Beth - Okay, so I have to ask…when you say you run 5 miles, do you mean without stopping…not walking at all? If so I am uber impressed, and I want to get to that point. I just recently started running [it had been about 7 years since high school when I played sports], and I really want to do a 5k, but I want to do it without walking breaks. How do you increase without dying? How do you know when to increase because I feel just as tired each time it seems. My longest is 1.5 miles without walking. I know I can increase, but holy cow…5 miles! Go you!

flowerpowermomma - aha! Waffle is becoming a ‘farm dog’, they don’t smell very well, but they sure have fun. Will explore the music later..it’s just gorgeous in my neck of the woods so i must get outside.

Heather - yay, I love me some Avetts! They are SO MUCH FUN live! How crazy is Joe Kwon dancing around with that cello?! I saw them when I lived in Nashville at the Ryman (the mother church of country music)- got a poster and had it framed so I could remember it forever. πŸ™‚ They have I think 3 live CDs which sort of capture some of the fun of their shows, but nothing is as great as that room full of people singing and clapping and stomping their feet right along with you!

Lauren - My kids are always saying our yard needs a bigger climbing tree, yours looks great!

lorel - Oh I really wanted to go to that concert but when I looked online the tickets were $75! Craig is awesome to get them for $35. Lucky you guys!

Carrie - I am ridiculously jealous! They were in Springfield, just an hour away from me, Saturday! I had no one to go with… should have went alone! Maybe one day I will have friends who like the same music as I do!

Kathy P - I had never heard of the Avett brothers, so i blasted those tunes here now in the house at 6.30 in the morning, sounded AWESOME. So spririted Those boys are hot!!!!!

Amber. - I’ve been a lurker of your blog for quiet some time, so I already knew you were awesome…but the fact that you have fallen in love with the avetts means you are beyond awesome.
I’ve had a huge crush on that band/their music for a few years now. But, nothing compares to hearing them live. After going to five of their concerts, listening to their music on a computer does it no justice. If possible, you should see them on NYE! I’ve went to two of their NYE shows…let me just say, AMAZING.
πŸ™‚

Grace - Thanks for sharing! Waffle is really cute on the last picture! He is kind of crossing his eyes πŸ™‚

jenni - LOVE the Avett Bros! Love the lyrics:
…nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name…
Glad you and the Mr. enjoyed the show πŸ™‚

Sandy - I love that Talby has shorts and a tshirt on in the middle of March! I could take this years winter EVERY year! I used to love the snow and still do really…but I have loved this winter with no (very little!) snow and lots of sunshine and spring like days!!

Melissa - I can’t believe I’ve never heard them before-Love it! Thanks for sharing about them, I googles them and listened to a bunch of their stuff, so great! A thousand times better than the Chipmunks Christmas CD that the toddlers love listening to in the car!

Maureen - Love,Love, Love them. Our whole family listens to them and my 15 year old played for me “Murder in the City” last Mother’s Day. One of the prettiest songs, especially when you have two boys and a girl. “Always remember there was nothing worth sharing, like the love that let us share our name.”
How fun, you will always remember that concert!!

beth - love the Avette brothers! How cool that you got to go see them in concert. Waffle cracks.me.up. I love my dog the most when she’s freshly cleaned and hasn’t rolled in…anything. ha!

Laura - I’ve listened to “January Wedding” an embarrassing number of times. My husband should be worried. I have the hugest crush on Seth. So jealous that you saw them in concert!

Sharla - We were there too! I wasn’t really a fan of their music before (this was for Nathan’s birthday), but I definitely appreciate them more after hearing them live. They were great! Love date nights. πŸ™‚

Amanda Eudy - Excellent! The Avett’s are my favorite band! So glad you had the chance to see them live..Whenever I tell someone about them, I include the statement “You have to see them live, they are AMAZING!”
Glad you enjoyed the boys πŸ™‚

Melissa - My brother saw the Avett Brothers in Springfield Friday night and then traveled to Witchita to see them again Saturday night! I saw them last summer at RedRocks in Colorado. They put on a fabulous show!

Ashlyn@Pinecone - The hubs and I and our 3 girls are going to see the Avett Brothers in April in Ithica, NY and I cannot wait!!!! We all love them over here – love the pics!
xo
Ashlyn

Nikki - You are blessed to have a hubby that took you. Tim and I just don’t see eye to eye when it comes to music. I’m still considering seeing them all alone if I have to though!!

Heather S. - The sun’s out now in T-town! Hope it’s shining on you now as well! I got my booty out of bed for an hour long boot camp class at 5:30….that was hard after spring forward weekend – but so glad I did it!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hey you know what, there’s an Orpheum theatre here in Los Angeles and it’s so beautiful and shabby inside too and I love it! That’s funny that there’s a chain of them?! Anyway so glad you had a date night. They are so important aren’t they? Glad you made the time. Hope your headache is over soon. Take care.

DeNanner - They are from Charlotte(where I live). I use to have them on an entertaintment TV show I use to produce several years ago. They were unknowns then and use to ring my phone off the hook wanting to be on every week.
so happy for them.

Marianne - πŸ™‚ People always look at me weird when I say ‘blerg’. he he he.

Ali - I LOVE the Avett Brothers – especially live. My husband and I saw them in Lawrence, KS a few years ago and it BLEW ME AWAY. Glad you had the chance to experience that too. And good luck to the Jayhawks in the tournament!! I’m sure your hubby and boys are getting pumped.

robyn - i love that you were at your Orpheum Theater last night, and I was at mine!

Shauna Howington - This is the best post I’ve seen all day! They are my all time favorite band and such a treat live! I knew you had great taste!!

2 AM

there is a reason i don't go to bed early.
i hate to be woken up.

but today…i put in a full 12 hours of not sitting down or stopping.
i went for a five mile run.
that is the longest i have ever gone.
i got the house ready to move into…it's ready…every floor mopped, walls washed, bathrooms bleached.
and i got new toilet seats because it just has to happen whenever we move into a house.
you do that too right?
even if they are fine (which they usually aren't) it's just gross…in my opinion.

i came home and we had chicken tacos….aren't crockpots one of the best inventions EVER?!

then craig took the little girls to his moms and i texted at 8:30 "i'm going to bed"
that is unheard of.
i never go to bed before 11.
ever.

and three wake ups later…
that is why i don't go to bed early.
once i wake up i have a really hard time going back to sleep.
so…here i sit at 2 AM with a bowl of cereal and browsing the web for shower curtains.
Do you know that for every one decent looking shower curtain there are at least 247 really ugly ones??

it's true.

so….in a few hours we move to the farmhouse.

i know from all your comments that you are sad that you won't see this house much on the blog anymore.
but you know that's not true.
it will be here for craft weekends and other fun stuff.
don't cry. πŸ™‚
and i think the farm house has lots of great photos, projects and love to come.
in fact…i KNOW it does.

what i have figured out from all of this and from everyone's comments…

1. craig and i are not afraid of change.
2. we love our home but we don't want to love anything so much that we cannot leave it.
3. we love the small town upbringing we were blessed to have and want it for our family too.
4. we love our family….and that family can bond and love and grow stronger anywhere…not just this house.
5. we are very content and at peace with this choice.

and that all feels so good.

it's just a house.
this one or the farm or anywhere….it's just "stuff"
it's a project….the bathrooms…the kitchen….the painting….they are beautiful!
but when it's done i just turn my head and say "what's next?"
i know not everyone feels that way about their home and that is fine too…we can be different.

will i miss my kitchen?  my big bathroom? my tall windows?
of course!!!  i am human.

but i am choosing in this new season of my life to focus on letting God show me the goodness of my life even without a granite countertop.  :)

i am choosing Phillipians 4:8  "whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy; think about these things"

five kids and two houses and two full remodels later…we are tired.

the farm house gives us a mandatory break from remodeling.
we get to use our time to enjoy other things….like…i don't even know what yet?!!

and that is exciting to me.

ok…i am rambling because i am sleepy and wide awake.

bottom line:  it's all good baby.
there is nothing fishy….nothing i'm not sharing….nothing wrong…we are just moving to a farm.
it's A.G.

(i ran the same route as i did yesterday and this time had my nike+ in my iPod and yesterday's run was actually 4.5 miles!  SWEET!  i will take it.  5 miles today, 4.5 yesterday….90.5 to go.  YAY for Rockin' the Bod in MARCH!)

time to try to sleep again.
i have a BIG day.
and i saw there are cinnamon rolls AND donuts on my counter….hmmm.
oh my.

Kanekaitlyn - the location offers a wide selection of ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tile and three complete lines of cabinetry with full service and installation on all product. the location has products vary from easy to elegant.
http://www.marbleproducts.net/

jennie - the five things you figured out (especially thing #2) are beautiful. can’t wait to see new pictures from around the new digs!

Tina I - What a great post! Thanks…I needed it. We moved our large family recently, and we always say that it doesn’t matter where the house is, as long as we’re all together.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hi Meg, love your honest words. Of course you’re going to miss all those fun things about the house you left. But new memories will be made at the farmhouse and new paint will emerge and all your fun craftiness will soon make the new house fabulous. I know that you’re being smart about the STUFF, because it is just stuff. I am relating to some of what you’re writing because we are thinking about downsizing our home in the near future with kids moving out and going to college, etc. and wanting to be more prudent with our finances the Lord blesses us with. Lots of thoughts just like yours go through my head. I love my house, the memories the blood sweat and tears we’ve spent here. But in the end you’re so right, it’s just a house, a building, just stuff. Thanks for your words of encouragement today. God bless you and your family and this move. Keeping you in my prayers.

Christine - Thank you for this post. The words you write “but i am choosing in this new season of my life to focus on letting God show me the goodness of my life even without a granite countertop.” ARE THE EXACT words I needed to hear today. We are house hunting and I’m realizing how bratty and selfish I am, but praying that God will help learn to be content without granite countertops!

Mumma - We just did the same thing. It has been the best decision. 2 months and some change later we have gotten settled in. The house is “done” and now it is time to live life beyond the “call of the house.” You know…the “fix me” “paint me” “clean me” call we always hear.
Now what? I love that question!

Lindsey - Meg, I love this post.

Lisa - First off — no, you’re not alone with the new toilet seats, it’s the first thing I do when moving into a new home. I just wanted to tell you that because of this post, I realize I was given a gift from God. We’ve been renters for the past 6 years. A beautiful house, but I never felt content because it wasn’t MY house. I’ve realized that a house doesn’t define who you are or what kind of memories are made. In fact when you said not having to remodel is a gift – you are so right, this whole time we’ve been exactly where we’re supposed to be — together )

Dawn - We’ve moved a lot. (A LOT!) I may have been attached to the first house, but then I moved on. It’s an adventure! Hope the move went smoothly, I can’t wait to see what you do with this place! Rentals can be good too — when the garbage disposal goes — someone else gets to fix it for a change. πŸ™‚

Tiffany - Btw u are free to share only what u are comfortable with. The nerve of some people. The only constant is change – carry on.

Melanie - I’m confused…why are you moving into a farmhouse, but keeping your other house at the same time? Guess I will go through previous posts and see if I missed something.
Hope you get a good night’s sleep soon…all sounds exhausting!

Meg's Mom - Thanks Meredith – I found it on my own earlier today. Thanks for the tip though! That’s awesome.

Meredith - Meg’s Mom – It was fairly far down on the front page – far right. If I were more tech savvy I would take a screen shot. The link connects to The Stylist, which I think is a sister site to them. It’s (of course) a stunning picture of the crayon/hairdryer craft. πŸ™‚ I hope that helps!

Rach - Good luck with the move and the new house. I do hate to move but I love the adventure of being in a new space. I have lived in 9 places since I moved to Los Angeles. The house my husband and I just bought is our first and we will be here for a while. While I will miss the adventure of a new place every couple of years, it is nice to be able to make fun changes and renovate and make our house a home. I am sure once it is all done and the way we want it, our eyes will wander and we will search for a new home. Change is fun. I have to agree with you on that one.

Jennifer - I live in the suburbs (city) but teach and my kids go to school in the county next door (in the country). The drive stinks and we’ve been trying to make that move to the country soon- especially since the kids are getting more involved etc. My parents live there too! I LOVE my house but we’re not too afraid of change either. Still kind of dragging our feet for the right time though. Are you worried about keeping up with two houses though?? That stresses me out a bit thinking about it. I don’t think I’d like the feeling of “living” in two houses, but obviously you’ve thought of all this. Just wondering πŸ™‚ Oh, and I think no matter where you are at, it will be homey and beautiful- even without granite.

janel - I for one love to pick up and move. I don’t like the moving part so much, but I love living in a new space. I change the toilet seat too. every time.
What I love about your new space, is how cool and huge it is! When the leaves are on the trees, and everything is green and heavy, it is going to look so awesome. Then when the leaves change… oh my, I cannot wait for that. I think it is an awesome find, one to be enjoyed for a while.
And that is the whole point. Is is just for a while.
Looking forward to the home tour!

kat - Good luck with the move! I think you made the right decision for your family. Change is hard, but it sounds like you’re embracing it head on! Prayers for a smooth transition!

Meg's Mom - Meredith-where was that link on Huffington?

Meredith - Meg – your blog is one of my favorites (I follow it in my reader), and today I saw a link to a story about your blog (your crayon melting art project) from the front page of the Huffington Post! That’s pretty big and I am so excited for you.

jerusalem - i am so proud of ya’ll! this is awesome. we too are trying to move from our city house that we have worked so hard on to a farm house in a smaller community. we will be purchasing that house so I still have some remodeling in my future, but it is smaller than this house and has no closets! oh my. but we both feel that this is best for our little family. so, I feel ya sister. I do. Much love!

Meredith - Meg, it all appears wonderful. Above all it sounds as if you and Craig are energised and enthusiastic about what lies ahead. That’s just wonderful for the whole family. As for missing your house…I think your blog and your home are YOU, not the actual house or the long windows. Your home is wherever you are. So plug the coffee machine in, set up your favourite chippy paint furniture, a world globe or two, the gumball dispenser and you’ll be all set. Hope the move went well. All things are possible with new toilet seats, right? Meredy xo

Christina - New toilet seats = absolute necessity! πŸ™‚
How exciting for you all! I am looking forward to hearing about this new adventure. How cool that you are able to keep the other house for all the things you will do there, and have the closeness to the school/small town life! I think it’s great. I have a hard time moving (even when we have moved in the same town), but your attitude is much healthier! πŸ™‚
P.S. I loved Ding Dongs!!

Kate - I love that I’m not the only one who buys new toilet seats. I think it’s kind of necessary too.

karen - It is just stuff. For me the stuff makes me feel good though. I get happy when i get something that ‘makes my heart sing”. Now you will have new stuff and I can’t wait to see it.

Tanya - live your truth meg. the end.
you go get that farm house and love your family.
i’d like to hug you for some reason ~ hope the move goes well πŸ˜€

Katie Beth - I will admit that I kind of felt the same as many about how your current house just looks so great that I was kind of sad for you. Then I realized that is dumb. I love your comment about being at peace and not loving anything so much that you cannot leave it. It is earthly, and you have your memories. This is just a new adventure, and I can totally relate to always looking to the next project. Best of luck to you all!
p.s. I am jealous of the barn for sure.

jennibell - I’m the same way. . .go to bed too early and I’m wide-awake at the strangest hours. Sounds like a big transition in your life…I’m sure you feel blessed that you can make these choices. It will be a busy weekend.

tiffany gardner - ahhh….I just love you! I know this blog world is weird sometimes…. I have never met you or you me but I do! (not in a stalker kind of way.) (in an “I can relate” “mom to mom” friend to friend” kind of way.) Once again…you have reminded me of what is important in this life. Thank you…my fav blog girl!

Stephanie campbell - I love moving. You’re right about the stuff. I sometimes dream about selling all ours and living in an RV, lol. Imagine how easy it would be to clean! You have fun on your new adventure.

Lori Myers - Love this! Love your honesty and your willingness to move on when and where God leads!! You inspire me! Many blessings on your new adventure! All is Grace!

Cindy - Blessings to you and your family as you transition to your new home!

Kristi Rediske - I love the farm house-and I love your house. It doesn’t seem like you are leaving it me since you will still own it and use it-no big deal. I was wondering though-are you getting more furniture for the farm house or moving your furniture from your big house-how are you doing all that? I do have trouble leaving houses. We moved a year ago from a house I loved into a smaller house-it has taken me awhile to really love it-I do now-mainly because we added on a family room-HA! Anyway-glad you are happy.

Kori - My husband and I decided a year and a half ago to move from OC, CA to Spokane, WA. Trying to get the small town feel and life for our son to finish growing up.
The truth? Two out of three of us hate it. My husband isn’t one of those two. πŸ™ The adjustment has been more than difficult. Friends are hard to make. There’s truly nothing to do here nine out of twelve months.
I’ve been trying to keep positive, but honestly I don’t know how much longer I can last. I always thought I was able to be a big town girl AND a small town girl…guess not if it means actually *living* in the small town.
Ha. Oh well.
Sorry to vent here, but I was just reading your post and thinking that how you feel is how I wanted to feel and although it hasn’t happened, I wish you and your family the best!
Moving is a ton of work, but very exciting! Make time for treats!! Can’t wait to see what this change holds for your family. πŸ™‚

Eliza - For all who are concerned about not sleeping for 8 hours – aka “through the night”: found this story from BBC’s site – – so all can lighten up about what their own body needs are…
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16964783
Peace to all – blessings on your new house/home.

Terrie G - I’ve been up at 2am a lot in the past few weeks…pain meds & muscle relaxants are helping me sleep through the night until I’m 100%! I hate being up that late for no reason!
Praying that all is going well for you today!
HaPpY Moving & Decorating a New space! That is so much fun!!

Kim - 2 am. Sorry. Never fun. Hope your moving day goes well. It’s cold, rainy and windy here, with ice on the ground. Sounds lovely doesn’t it? Hoping you have better weather.
We moved about a year and a half ago. It was a hard decision, but the best thing we ever did. I can’t wait to see what new opportunities God opens up for you.

sue - I’m sorry but I will miss the granite counter tops and the big bathroom and the long windows. So There!!!! lol

Katherine @ Grass Stains - Meg, you neeeeeeeed this! http://www.momastore.org/museum/moma/ProductDisplay_Color%20Wheel%20Umbrella_10451_10001_66539_-1_26690_26690_66540 Rainbow umbrella from the MoMA store. Oh my heavens … it’s glorious. And I think it would look right at home on the farm. ;_

Juli - Thank you for telling us about My Fitness Pal. Two weeks ago I set myself a modest goal of a pound a week, but I don’t know calorie counts all that well and I really didn’t know what I was doing. This has taken a lot of the guesswork out of things. I am a little shocked to see how quickly it all adds up, but…that’s the point, right?
All the best wishes as you start this new chapter in your lives. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - You are a breath of fresh air. Sunny side up. I like and admire that. Good luck today, and enjoy those yummy cinnamon rolls and donuts!!!

Laura Phelps - Oh Meg…if I had a dime for every person that looked at me like I was INSANE when I told them that I moved from big, exciting, LOS ANGELES to little ol’ SANDY HOOK, CT….I would be able to pay my bills and have money to spare!
I agree with you
I understand you
I value my GOD first
then my family
and so long as we are together, the rest will work out
Your house IS beautiful
and I LOVED visiting it
but your house is beautiful because YOU ARE IN IT
Because we have so little money, I have HAD to learn to not place my trust and value in THINGS
And this year I discovered that our lack of finances is a gift
My treasure is not from the things of the world
If my happiness depended on what I owned and how lovely my bathroom was, I would be screwed. SERIOUSLY, screwed.
My sister just said, “If you can’t be happy living in a mud hut, you will never be happy.”
Do I want a prettier house?
Of course!
Would I love to remodel?
Absolutely!
But I can live with out it, too
My family, and my God, however, I can not live with out.
What a beautiful time of year to make this move…
ashes to ashes, baby!!!!!!!!
when it is our time to go home to the Lord, none of our THINGS come with us.
It is all left behind…it is JUST STUFF.
this move is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME………………..
All good, is right!
prayers for a smooth transition and oh man, I am really looking forward to your life! Can not wait to see what God has planned!

Tina Jacobsen - Happy Move Day!! What an adventure our lives are when we go for it and follow God!! I think God has alot of great plans for your old house…a place of fellowship and gathering with many people!! And I know he has awesome plans for your new farmhouse, home is where your family is, not in houses or things! Keep following God and your heart!!
Tina

tracey - I totally get what you mean about “just thing”. Anything that can be identified as “it” is not important enought to get attached to. My husband and I were talking about this the other day because there is a possibility of a move in the future. And while I would be sad to leave the family and friends here, the house and the things we would leave behind would be replaced. And it’s all good. Because God’s worrying about it, and prepping the way.

Susan - I know what you mean about the toilet seats! I always change them out and I actually have a friend who replaces entire toilets, but she is a bit extreme and also has deep pockets! Last year when I remodeled my bathroom I looked for months for a shower curtain and once I gave up I walked into Dillard’s and found my dream shower curtain on clearance for under 20.00! I am clueless as to why there are so many ugly ones though!

elizabeth highsmith - the sheer fact you get to say i “the farmhouse” solidifies any doubts that this is Pure wonderful!!! love that attitude and that verse! love this blog!

Amy - What a fun chapter in your lives! So true that stuff is just … stuff. Funny how we let all of that weigh us down. God bless you all as you begin farm life! My husband and I are slightly envious (and living here in Wichita) so no farm in sight – LOL!

MJ - I am with you — a house is just a house. Home is where you live with the ones you love.
I am the oldest of nine kids; we grew up in a big old Victorian. When I was 23, there was a big fire in our family’s house; we were all safe, but the house was uninhabitable. For Thanksgiving, we were in a rental. By Christmas, they found a new house, which did not have a kitchen and had none of our cherished decorations. That was the happiest Christmas and that house was ours for the next 32 years. All of our children (26 of them!)came home to that special place.
A year ago my Dad died and my Mom moved to an apartment. Christmas was in a community room at her condo this time and it was happy, too.
Our family motto is “Where thou art, that is home” . We also like to belt out Billy Joel’s song, “Wherever we’re together, that’s my home.”

Jacci - Megan, Megan, Megan. I KNOW you’re right… you are SO right. It’s just stuff. Years ago, when I was a new wife and relatively obsessed with making a home, a friend of mine (quite a bit older in years) painted all her bedroom furniture black. Not a lot of people were doing that kind of thing then, and I just thought it looked FABULOUS. I told her how much I loved it. I’ll never forget what she said. She looked at me and said, “I’m happy with how it turned out, too, but you know it’s all going to burn.” (2 Peter 3:8-13)
Why am I so dense? My heart still so worldly? (Romans 7:23,24).
It’s just stuff, Megan. You’re right. We’re spending all day (again) working on our torn up house… but, it’s just stuff. Praying to hold it all very, very loosely. To be able to walk away without looking back should the Lord call us to something else. Thanks for the word. I’m appropriately rebuked. And challenged to set my eyes on things above and not on things of THIS WORLD.
Praying for your family today!

maggie - Wow Meg, every time i read your blog i am inspired, what an amazing step of faith. I hadn’t read your blog in a whole week (that’s a long time for me), only to read this post this morning. I love how you express God’s peace. I love your (old)house and am looking forward to your posts in the farmhouse. I would love to live in a farmhouse one day…i have lived my entire life in the city and find myself longing for the peacefulness and simplicity that seems to come with small rural farmhouse life. God bless you and your family on this new journey!

Molly - My husband and I grew up in Iowa and after grad school he took a job in Arizona. After living there a few year we took a lot of time to find the perfect house. After living in our new house a couple months my husband was offered a job back in Iowa. Of course we wanted to move back…but at that time the housing market had crashed. So the kids and I stayed behind to sell the house. After 9 months on the market it finally sold. That time apart really made us realize what is important in a house….the people in it. My husband bought our current house without me ever seeing it in person. By that time we just wanted enough bedrooms, a big yard and a 3 stall garage for all our bikes and junk….and to be together!!! You can always make a house a home if all the people you love are there:)

Kimberlee Jost - This post read like a devotional to me today.
I needed it.
πŸ™‚

Emily - Life is a good adventure. If you aren’t afraid to take a chance once in a while. I would LOVE to live in the country. (Says the girl who lives in a postage stamp in a big east coast city.) Best of luck! We can’t wait to see what happens!

Kimberly Dial - I love your attitude and you’re right it’s just stuff (albeit lovely stuff πŸ˜‰ Have a smooth move! BTW,in regard to your country runs, I live in the country too – in WV – & we have had an increase in the number of coyotes, making walking/running a little scarey, especially alone – do you have all coyotes in Kansas? (I don’t mean to be an alarmist but those things creep me out!)

Kerry Wiebe - Megs, You should have stayed up for another 1 1/2 and then you could have really enjoyed farm life by coming over and helping Dan milk the cows HA HA I’m so excited for ya’ll! Let me know if you need any farm “tips” Love Ya!

Katie - We are selling our house and moving to a different state in a few months. I have peace about leaving but not about the new place. We haven’t found something we like yet. Thanks for the reminder that it doesn’t matter that much as long as we are together.

Curious Details - Adventure is good.
May your family be blessed in your new home!
xoxo

Sabrina - You go girl! It is just stuff. And it’s your life and you can do whatever you want. I love how real deal you are. πŸ™‚

Wendy - You are blessed to have family & friends that rally around you. I envy your life bc of the freedom you have to make the choices you do. Some of us aren’t that lucky.

chris - Good luck Meg , we just moved wednesday and it was so hard , I really don’t like moving , but I am really enjoying getting things in place at our new house , our house was great too but not a reason not to move on , get a fresh start. A house is a house that becomes a home , any house can become a home as long as you have your family there. I would so love a barn that’s awesome.

janet @ ordinary mom - I am like you. I would have no problem moving again if it was best for our family. I love my house but I know I can make a home anywhere as long as we are together.
I am happy that you old house will be still around AND excited to see you move into the new one. Having moved out to the country from suburbia last year, I can relate to the living style and we love it.

Elizabeth Macleod - I love your blog Meg….you are wise beyond your years…and such a good parent…I learn so much from you and I am a lot older than you!!

Maria - I’m glad I wasn’t the only one up…I couldn’t go back to sleep after waking up around 4:30. And that was with crashing around 11:30 or so…ugh.
I have a feeling a catnap will occur this afternoon…
“running” today…ds has a 2K fun run this morning (so its not like I needed the rest, right?)…Waiting to hear if the soccer fields are closed now…have a great weekend!

shannon - You inspire and encourage me! You are a brave woman! And honestly, this post is almost EXACTLY what I needed! We have been struggling with some changes in our family also. I have fought the good fight to stay where we are but I think the finish line of winning is slowly slipping from my grasp!
I cannot wait to see what all you do! Enjoy your day and have fun with your new exciting adventure!

Lori H - Good luck with the move! Can’t wait to follow your adventure πŸ™‚

Sandy - Thanks for being such a positive and faithful person. I woke up at 5:40….I guess that’s sleeping in from my weekday 5:00 alarm. I’ll take a couch nap shortly. πŸ™‚ I hope you were able to go back to sleep. Can’t wait to see all the upcoming changes. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Jack - Good luck with the move. Can’t wait to see the new old house.

Jen@ADropintheBucket - You rock. That’s it. That is all I have to say. My very favorite blog. Your attitude and faith inspire me. Thank you.
And I can’t wait to see what you do with all your time. πŸ˜‰

hi…..it’s wednesday.

**************************************************************************

moving on from that ad for Chlorox….

so…you know how you miss your window of telling someone something if you wait too long?

like if they have spinach in their teeth and you don't say anything for the whole meal and you say something as you get in your car to leave?

or you find out you are pregnant and don't tell your friends and then you dont see them again until you are obviously showing and it's weird like "umm…hey….i forgot to tell you i'm pregnant"  "When are you due?" "um….next month."  (i have had that happen)

there is a window to share big news before things become awkward.

i missed that window.

so….in the spirit of all this awkwardness….

we are moving.

this weekend.

i know. i know.

craig and i have been talking about it for a year.
our kids are in school in another town (except lauren who is finishing her high school here)
and we have wanted to be in that town all year for lots of reasons…especially for the kids!

we looked at houses, we looked at building, we talked about every option and then

we found a house to rent.

it is the perfect solution until we know what we really want long term.

IMG_7158-7

it is two minutes from school.  TWO!!   (which is nice considering we overslept today and missed the bus!)

it's adorable….it really is.
and it's in the country!
with a barn!
with a basketball goal….it's so HOOSIERS.

IMG_7164-8

we have been moving carloads there for over a week.
we move officially this weekend.

IMG_7177-9

BUT we are also keeping our current house too.
we will still come here for when our family visits.
when our friends come for a week and we can all stay in one place.
for holidays.
for craft weekends.
for special family nights.
and i will be able to come here and sew and sew and sew.
keeping this house opens up ALL kinds of new and FUN possibilities!

i am still processing all of it emotionally.
it's a little bit crazy to do but it's also a little bit awesome.

we are confident in this decision.
four of the five kids are happy and pumped up about it.
we are excited about a big change.

we are looking forward to see what GOD brings before us in this adventure.

there are so many wonderful memories to be made here.
i can't wait.
bring on the country.

IMG_7180-10

so…..what do you think?

Suzanne - My family made the big move to the country 5 years ago, the best decision we ever made!
Best wishes to a wonderful adventure…keep us posted!

Monofoil - That house is a dream! It’s a very beautiful place. You’re very lucky to have two houses, for sure. Enjoy!

Karen - I moved from the city to the country at the age of 21. I missed some things at first, but the quiet intelligence, humility and wisdom that country folks possess never ceases to impress me, as you get to know them! If there were even a major disaster of some kind (God forbid) I’d hitch my wagon to them just for survival! There are exceptions to every rule, of course, but for basic wisdom on the ways of the world, they can’t be beat. I think it’s completely wonderful that you have made a move “for your kids” as you wrote, and I hope God blesses your efforts. You will do fine out in the country, providing you realize the country should change you, not the other way around. πŸ™‚ Otherwise you’re doing it wrong. πŸ˜‰

Lisa Currie-Gurney - OH MY GOOOOODNESS!!!!! I HAVE BEEN BUSY, HAVEN’T HAD A MOMENT TO READ YOUR BLOG UNTIL THIS MORNING. I WOKE UP, THOUGHT TO MYSELF, I WILL GET MY COFFEE, SIT DOWN, AND GET CAUGHT UP ON MEG BEFORE I DO ANYTHING ELSE. YOU’VE MOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MEG HOW EXCITING!!! CHANGE. SO NECESSARY TO EMBRACE, (HUG THE LIFE OUT OF), WHEN WE LOVE AND WANT TO SERVE GOD. HE IS A GOD OF CHANGE, AND YOUR FAMILY IS DOING JUST THAT. SO COOL. WHAT BLESSINGS, CHALLENGES, ADVENTURES, ARE COMING YOUR WAY. WHO KNOWS WHAT GOD HAS FOR EACH OF YOU, AND FOR ALL OF YOU AS A WHOLE!!! I KNOW YOU HAVE TO BE IN HIS WILL TO BE “GIVING UP” THAT AMAZING HOUSE, HAS TO BE A GOD THING. (I know your still “keeping it” for now) WHAT A WITNESS TO US ALL MEG… YOU AND YOUR SWEET FAMILY. PLEASE, THANK THEM FOR ME. FOR REMINDING ME THAT CHANGE IS GOOD. CHANGE IS GOD. CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR ALL ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURES. I CAN TELL YOU THAT OUR GROWN CHILDREN ALWAYS TALK ABOUT THEIR GROWING UP YEARS OUT AT OUR “FARM”. YOUR DOING A GOOD THING. GOD BLESS YOU FRIEND! <3

Randi-Dukes and Duchesses - How exciting! My husband and I were just saying that our dream house would have a barn with a basketball court … I can’t believe you got it!! Wishing you much happiness in your new home.

Ashley - I absolutely adore hearing about people chasing their dreams. So so happy for you!

Mary - Is it weird that a piece of me mourned the fact that your family is moving? I don’t even know you or your family, but I’ve followed this blog for so long. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your house and it’s just so family friendly. I’ve picked my jaw up off the floor and I’m SUPER stoked for you and your family. Yeah…I know, I know…my reaction was bizarre-o. πŸ™‚ Happy Moving Weekend!

Wendy - Hmmm … how did you convince your children to change schools & move?

Jenn - YES! FISTPUMP!
The country is amazing.
I live in a house with a barn (with hoop!) and a shop and fields and woods that my kids will grow up playing in… and it is wonderful. Your family will be SO blessed by this move!
And you know what, if you decide it’s just not for you after a year or so… then you still have a great place to move back to, so no worries there! I am excited that you are excited. Hope this weekend is non-stressful and full of fun as you fill the new home with life.

Kelly - I thought you already were in the country being 30 minutes from Tarjay. πŸ™‚ Just kidding!
This is awesome! Absolutely awesome! I am so happy for you! Thank You God for just wildly fun blessings and please work in the lives of the Duerksen’s in this new adventure as You have planned. Amen.
When I saw photos of craft weekend and the twin beds in the READ room I thought to myself “now why would she want to mess with that perfectly perfect room even one iota” but if you’re moving anyway it makes a lot more sense (not that it needs to make sense to me, you can of course do whatever you want!)
Happy moving! I am so happy for you!
Oh and that barn equals awesome, awesome! Kelly

DanaD@BoysMyJoys - What a wonderful, wonderful opportunity for you and your family! I’m begging to move to the country, but we just haven’t found the right spot yet. I can’t wait to see a house tour, and to see how your cheerful decorating will impact your new space!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Sandy - WOW! I had no idea! Of course not…how would I?! πŸ™‚ The biggest thing to me is you (all) are happy and the 2nd biggest thing is that you are keeping your “old” house! You’ve done so much work to it and it’s SO gorgeous! I can’t imagine you not living there, but I know your next place will be even more amazing. Aside from crafts, family visits, etc maybe you’ll consider renting it out to those of us that would LOVE to vacation in it?! πŸ™‚

Michelle - I’m so confused! I hope you’ll give us a little more of a fill in as you get settled into the new house. Lots of luck Meg.

Jenn - WOW!!! Totally not where I thought you were going with that! I am so blown away. Love your example – and so true. I have had house envy ever since I started following your blog, so I am feeling sad to not be able to check out all the cool details in the background of your pics – even though it is exciting to think about you making a mark on a new house, with new inspiration – even though it’s a rental, you seem like a person who would nest anyhow. Your family is beautiful. Love the old house. Hope the transition is super great for all of you, even the 1 hold out…

Jessie - Is it bad that I felt utterly disappointed when I thought I had missed out on a chance to buy your house?! I got over it when I read that you were keeping it though, lol πŸ™‚ Do I smell a B&B in your future? If so, where do I make a reservation?! Best of luck wih the move, and I can’t wait to see what you do with your new digs!

crystal beutler - Super excited for your new adventure!!!!!!!! Good luck with all the moving. My least favorite thing ever. Lucky you have lots of hands to help.
Can’t wait to see it all fixed up. Wish you lived near me because I’m having a garage sale and you could probably use some of my stuff for your old house!!

any jupin - i am in love with that barn!

Lilian - Wow. Must be nice to afford 2 houses. Sure am jealous.

Whitney - Whoa. At first I wanted to check the calendar to make sure I didn’t miss March and this was an April Fool’s joke. Nope, it’s still March 1st. Then I thought, “Why on earth would she want to move from her amazing house?? Hmmm… maybe instead of moving home to Maine in 2 months I can rent her house?” It’s going to be so different to see you in a different location… I feel as if I have been to your house, when clearly I haven’t. Hope your move is easy, stress free (ha, like moving is ever either one)… and can’t wait to see what adventures the new house holds. (I feel less sad knowing I will still get to see your other house still- crazy that I feel sad when I have never met you!) Enjoy!

Melissa l - Okay, you have to tell us more about your move. More on why, more pics, everything. Best of luck and can’t wait to find out more!

amanda - Oh, exciting! Hoping your transition is a smooth one (and that your one of five comes around soon πŸ˜‰

Janelle - Dude – if you ever sell your house, you should put in on eBay, I can’t imagine what we would all bid for it!

elma - Oh the best of luck in moving!! Can’t wait to see pictures!!!!

Melissa - Wow!!! I hope your family is super happy in your new place. My husband and I have been AGONIZING over the decision to move to a bigger house to fit 4 (maybe 5?) kids in. BUT, I have put so much TLC into my current house that I’m heartbroken even thinking about leaving my orange dining room and teal-painted kitchen cupboards. Thanks for your post!

Kristin Hayne - I think it is AWESOME…. change is good….more convenient for your family and look at that AWESOME property!! SOOOO YOU!!! Glad to hear you are keeping your old home. That would be the best of both worlds for me. It is a win win situation. Good luck in your new adventure…. can’t wait to see what yuo do with the new residence…. and glad to hear you are content with the decision… THAT to me is the hardest part… finding the peace with sucha big change!! YEAH! Good luck!

angie - First, I love how excited the commenters are for Waffle! Lol! Your readers are awesome.
I too was sad and shocked to hear that you are moving from that grand house. I am so glad you are keeping it πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see what life has in store for you and your family! Country life is so appealing to me. Enjoy!!

Jacci - ha ha ha… these comments have been so funny to read! i’ve read ALL of them. I’m thinking, Megan, if you posted another post of absolutely nothing just so all your readers could talk back and forth about your move, we’d all come comment! We’re shocked. And cracking up at you springing it on us. And excited. And confused. And feeling silly for caring so much, but if ever there were a post to show us all just how much we CARE about you, your family, your house, your blog – this is IT! I already commented, but I came back just to say that **I am praying for yor family as you move this weekend** – for hearts, and attitudes, and details. All that good stuff. Praying.

Vonda - Wow!!! I had to read it a couple of times! I love, love, love your house-but I know you will make this one a beautiful cozy home too! I grew up on 5 acres in the country with a big barn-sooo many wonderful memories! I’m very glad that you are keeping your other house too tho!!!

Deb Meyers - i think? awesome~!!! Country life and a basketball goal…yay for you!!!!

Ashlyn@Pinecone - We moved this summer to Upstate NY and still have our house near Seattle – so that is just a pain in the butt since it is all the way across the country…. But, what your doing is going to be just plain great! I am dying over the pendant lights in that barn – are they gorg or what!
Good luck with everything this weekend!! xo Ashlyn

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I want to live in the country! This will be fun following your journey. Praying all 5 kids will be happy with the move.

Lisa - GREEN! That’s me. WITH ENVY! This is so WONDERFUL!! Congratulations on the new house – it looks amazing – I can hardly wait to see pictures of the inside and of the land you’re on. I’m so happy for you that you are keeping the “city” house – it is such a great house, esp. with the newly renovated bathroom :). Don’t we all wish that we had a space/house for a creative energies to reside and expand and develop? I hope this all works out for you and your family. BTW, I missed that “window” with my pregnancy, too – no one but my family knew I was pregnant until I was in a car wreck and had my baby 10 weeks early and was put on the prayer chain at church. (No, I didn’t look pregnant, even at 29 weeks)Oops. Best wishes for a smooth and “uneventful” move this weekend!

Sarah - Wow, I almost flipped out when I started reading it!!! So happy you get to keep your old house too…it’s too beautiful to leave!!! Love the country too! Enjoy the blessings!!!

Michelle - Wow.
What else can I say.
Okay, congratulations, would be really good and so would
good job at keeping a secret and good job at multi-tasking.
I remember when I first started to read your blog so long ago and was surprised to find that you lived “in town”, because for some reason I pictured your family in this awesome country setting. Now you are there, sort of. Renting is different in a way. However, I’m sure that God has a lot in store for your family and that whatever you do, wherever you go, He will lead the way. Can’t wait to see where this leads.
Enjoy the wonderful bonfires, nights looking at the stars, and if you can, plant a big patch of sunflowers since you are in the country.

Cari - Wow! I’ve been a faithful follower for awhile now, but got out of the habit of commenting because we just moved ourselves — from Arkansas to South Carolina. Moving is exhausting! I hope you find time to rest & savor the moments. What a blessing to be able to keep your home for special occasions! Happy moving!!

gigi - I think I am confused but, “okay.” I’ll follow you. πŸ˜‰

D. Jean - Wow! What a great idea. Can’t wait to hear more.

Wendy - Wow! Being an ex-military family, we have a bit of experience in “moving”. We moved every 2 years his entire career. We’ve been at this house for almost 5 years now, it seems like forever! Our youngest are already asking when we’ll move again. I’m sorry for your child that’s not happy about it (I have teenagers myself and let me tell you… they were *not* happy about our last move). They’ll get over it, they’ll make new friends… it’s ok. You’re doing the right thing. Good luck with the move (I loved the purging moving always forced me to do) and I can’t wait for pictures of the new house made into your home! πŸ™‚

Seriously Sassy Mama - Hoosier is awesome! A country home! I almost cried when you said you were moving. I was fixing to move to Kansas and buy your home!

Michelle - It looks awesome! Congratulations!

Jenn - You’ll love the country. Your kids will too:) Can’t wait to see what you do with the new house. It’s got a lot of potential! Prayers for you during this busy-crazy time.

Sara - This will be a great thing! So excited for you!

Cheryl E. - WHAT?!?!?!?!? Wow, now there’s a shocker! πŸ™‚
Congratulations!!!! I guess I figured with all that blood, sweat and tears in decorating your “other” home, you would have never moved. Are you able to decorate the rental in the country?
I think it’s a great move for you and your family and I look forward to your new adventures! Happy packing! πŸ™‚

christine karp - i had to stop and think…
is it April 1 today?
is this an april fool’s joke?
i’m still stunned
it’s really amazing!
blessings on your new path!
and good for you in going for it!
i hope it brings much happiness to you and your wonderful family!

Pip - Amazing! Looks likes the perfect place for your lovely family πŸ™‚ love the barn!!

Katherine @ Grass Stains - I’m shocked, but excited about all that this move has in store for you! Sounds like you guys are really (well, almost all of you) excited, and I can’t wait to hear story after story after story about it. I never get bored of hearing your anecdotes, even about the mundane pieces of everyday life. (I have four kids, so it’s all fun to read for me!)

Heidi hentze - Wow Megan,
I was shocked! Good for you, many blessings. It’s hard work to move but worth it. Look forward to seeing your touch of magic applied to your new digs! Love that barn!

Annie Lanka - Yay Meg!!! I hope you guys love living in the country as much as we do! Good luck!!

Karen Gerstenberger - WOW! I am shocked, but happy for you…and thankful that you don’t have to leave the house which I have come to associate with you, the memories of your remodeling and your photojournals of it, all the ways you have put your stamp upon it. I am glad that you will be able to return there for gatherings of family and friends, and most of all, that you & Craig feel peaceful and happy about it.
Carpe diem! God is good. May all of you (even the one who isn’t 100% in favor) find blessing and joy in your new home.

Lisa - Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say, I was shocked to read this, I LOVE your house so much and all the time and love you have put into it, it’s hard to think of you and your family NOT living there….BUT, I know that change can be good and I’m sure you will make your new home, wherever that winds up being, a beautiful place too…and we’ll get to watch you do it!

Jenny B. - I just did the whole so-shocked-I-had-to-grab-hold-of-something-for-fear-I-might-faint thing. Whoa! I’m so excited and a little scared (becuase it seems so sudden to me even though I realize it’s so not for you so you shouldn’t be scared) at the same time! Can’t wait to see more of the new place! And how awesome that you get to keep the old one! Wow. That’s all I have to say.

Beth - Welcome!
You will have great weather for a move in March. πŸ™‚

Dee - A house in the country sounds wonderful. And I know you will make it awesome! I drove my kids to and from school for *years* and I can’t tell you the anxiety I felt about making sure they arrived and were picked up on time, ugh. They take the bus now, a lot less stressful.

Julie - I just hope there are a lot of pictures involved once you move in!

Aby - Holy mackrel!! You know how to spring a surprise girl!! This weekend?!? Really?? Seriously???? I can’t keep a secret for more than say…2 days! Okay…1 day….but I digress!! WOW!! You’re good! I am SO happy you’re keeping your fab house!! How wonderful! I’m happy for your new adventure. I’m happy you’re happy. I know you’ve prayed about it and have been lead to your decision. Enough said!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

catie - WOW! Congrats! That’s so awesome!! We just moved from Wichita to the Halstead area (in the country) and we are LOVING it!
And that barn is fab.u.lous!

Jen Allred - I think it’s just so stinkin’ awesome! I will pray for no wind this weekend and lots of peace as your family transitions to country living!

Erin - Congrats! Being a kansas girl myself I love the idea of a city house and a country house. And lucky for us, in Kansas we have areas where it is actually affordable to have both. I think you just got my wheels spinning. Good luck to you!

Suzy - Meg,
That is such great news. And like a few others before me, I have to say I felt like my best friend just told me she was moving TODAY! If you EVER decide to sell your gorgeous house, please, shoot me an email…I would truly move to Kansas (from Chicago) to live there…with my family, of course!
Have fun decorating and getting settled in! I can’t wait to see pictures! I love that basketball barn!
Suzy

Lacy Peters-Brauner - when i first read the post i gsped. I love that house. It isnt mine i know, but id like to think one day id have something very very similar. I didnt realize until reading further and to stop judging, you were keeping the house!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait to see what you do with your new home:] secretly, i wish you wouldnt move, but like you said..new memories to be made:]

Michelle From Australia - OH WOW! I look forward to seeing you made the new house into your home. Even if it is a rental, I’m sure it will be all the more beautiful for being the D family home. I’ll pray that God will send you strength, patience and good weather for moving.

Mindy Harris - aw, megan, the house is so cute and it sounds like you have made a really wise choice for your family!
i would love to live out in the country..we are in the heart of wichita (not in a scuzzy area) and it’s right up to a main thoroughfair and we hear TONS of ambulences, sirens, traffic…i am a noise sensitive person (wish i wasn’t) so the country sounds so appealing!
good luck with the rest of the moving process.
so excited for you!

Tina I - Wow! What an exciting adventure! We recently moved across the country because of my husband’s job and decided to rent until we could figure out exactly what we wanted to buy. I feel like a rental takes a big weight off your shoulders. A home you can enjoy without being stressed:-) My 12 year old is the one (of 5, like yours) who isn’t excited about the move or the new location. While part of me feels for her and how hard it is, the other part of me wants to say, “Buck up. You’ll survive. Do you know that people in this world have REAL problems!?!” Without betraying your daughter’s trust, would love to hear how you handle the upset kid vs. mom/dad know what is best for our family….

Jody - Whoopee!! Country living with all that space AND 2 minutes from school?? How perfect is that?! I love the looks of your rental (the barn!!!!) and Waffle will be able to RUN & chase squirrels all he wants. How exciting!
Enjoy the adventure & embrace the unknown!!

Tanya - Country = dreamy, simple, perfection.
I’m happy for you πŸ™‚

jessica kiehn - You didn’t move just to be closer to school, right? Like, that’s nite the ONLY reason right? How are you going to live in both houses?! I am confused! I say sell the other one and make your new cool country space awesome like you do so well!
How fun for your family. I love the new spot:)

Belinda - The Lattimore Acre - Goodluck with the move. Hope all runs smoothly. We also made to move to the country. Room to breath. Room for the kids to ride motorbikes, have chickens and listen to the birds. Enjoy xo

Lindsay - Wow!!! I can’t believe that! I am so glad you are keeping your other house because it is so dreamy. But who wouldn’t want to live in the country?! I am so happy for y’all!

mollie's mom - How exciting and what a great new place. Loved the old place but I live in Atlanta so all that space is amazing to me and I must be honest – I have barn envy!!!!!
I think you all will do great things with “whatever” comes your way πŸ™‚
Looking forward to some great posts on this new and exciting adventure…
marcie

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - Love new adventures. And best of all, we get to share it with you. Damn I like blogging!

sharron - oh my goodness you GET to decorate two houses!!! how exciting!!! i am gonna love following your new journey!!
blessings!

Vicki - I’m a little bit jealous. But y’know, we live 5 blocks from my son’s school in a city and it is AWESOME! I’m all about living within proximity. It creates immediate community, saves gas and it’s just danged convenient. Plus, my parents live in the country, so we get the best of both worlds.
Best of luck to you guys on this new HOME! yay!

Gail - Cool! If you need someone to stay in your city house occasionally, I would be happy to come up from Wichita and do that. Just saying..

Yby5 - Holy Cow…is this a a joke?? I’m so surprised…wow, you’re really, really good at keeping a secret πŸ™‚ Very happy for you though and know that no matter where you land you can make it home. you have a knack for bringing your family to life in your space…awesome for you guys and can’t wait to see more of the house. Good luck moving this wknd…have boxes of Krispy Kreme on hand and coffee πŸ™‚

tara pollard pakosta - wow! the country? that’s awesome! I LOVE IT!!!!
tara

ginny - ditto, all of the above. πŸ™‚

Amy - I read this twice too! A shock to all your blog fans it seems, it’s funny how we all feel like we know you πŸ™‚
How exciting and I’m sooo pleased for you getting to keep your current house too.
It’s such a beautiful and unusual character filled home, it seems to mirror the fun of your family πŸ™‚
The move to the country sounds perfect (I think Waffle talked you into it!) and you’ll make another gorgeous home there!
Wishing you all every happiness there and looking forward to reading all about it.
More AWESOME times ahead!
xxx

Ali - Okay that is really cool news! You are all so amazing! πŸ™‚ Neat that you get to try out this option!
Please give us more details! This is exciting!
~ Ali

karen - why is everyone saying they can’t wait what you do with the rental? Are you aloud to renovate it?
I say build! A custom home would be ideal…and i bet your’s would be just awesome.

Rachel B. - YAY! How exciting for you all! I’ve always wanted to live in the country πŸ™‚

Shannon - Wow–very exciting news and I am happy for you! Congrats!

Tina Jacobsen - What the What!! I think it’s totally cool that when you are confident about something you go for it!! Life is to short to sit on the sidelines!! Dream and Dream Big!!
Tina

Andrea - Ok I’m sorta in shock, but extremely relieved your keeping the City house. I can’t wait to see what you do with this new house.

jennie - wow! i can’t wait to see what you do with your rental house. i pretty much love everything about your current house, and have it all pinned for my own “someday” house. my fingers will be crossed for you this weekend. and the 1/5 of your children who still aren’t sure about this whole thing.

Janine - Good luck! You have to do what is best for your family. I hope it all works out. At least you will still have your big house to come back to if you change your mind.

Jennie - What do I think?? I think I moved this past weekend, and I will be saying lots of prayers for you and your family this weekend. πŸ™‚ I hope it all goes wonderfully, and I’m super excited for you and your family. Also can’t wait to journey with you as you decorate this new home!! Congratulations!

Maria - Wow. That is some seriously big news! So happy to hear you are still keeping the other house though…I might cry a little if you left it completely. Ok, maybe not. Or just a little.
We are thinking of moving in the coming years, but would probably keep our house as a rental (It will take a lot for me to leave my kitchen sink and faucet though…I may have to buy duplicates…)
Anyway, congratulations on your new adventure in the country…and on sleeping in a bit more on those rushed school mornings!

Gina f. - Looks awesome but more importantly it sounds like the right big picture decision for your family

Kirsten P - My immediate thought when I read you were moving was….but you just renovated your bathroom and you absolutely love it! I was so sad for you.
But I kept reading and you said you’re still keeping the old house and will be back often for family events, craft weekend and sewing, etc. And you’re much close to school. Okay I wasn’t so sad anymore.
I’m looking to seeing spring photos of the rental house.

Krissy - Congratulations!! Totally feel your pain on moving, but so happy for you! And i LOVE the country. :))) I grew up between Derby and Wichita, so not really country, but country enough to know its amazing!! Cant wait to see more pics of the new house! You will still be in Kansas though, right? There’s no place like home!!! haha sorry corny joke….

Gretchen - Wow!!! We’re walking the same path right now! We’ve been in our “process” since July and I’m just now blogging about it. Yeah, I think I waited a little too long. πŸ˜‰
Thrilled for this next adventure for the duerksen family!

sara @ it's good to be queen - whoa. all that i want to know is, how the heck do you do everything???? craft weekends and packing and redoing a bathroom? holy moly. and oh sigh…to live in the country. that is awesomesauce.
so excited to read and follow along with your journeys. blessings to you all!!

Sarah - Like lots of others have said, I had to reread this to make sure I didn’t miss something.
Then I felt a little sad. Like I have any say. HA.
I love your other house so much. It’s kinda my dream home… that craft room you have is like a little secret hideaway and I wish for one of those.
But the rental is awesome. I love country and land and a BARN! I see some great photo opportunities in your future. Look forward to hearing/seeing more about this.

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Im a total dork but I found myself (asking myself) whats the date today? Is this an April fool’s joke? Im stunned, literally. I love your current house so much(I think b/c its alot like my own which I just adore). But I have to admit, it’ll be fun to see what you do in the rental. And Im sure Waffle will love the room to run(maybe it’ll take his mind off of hamster stalking?):)

Kerry - Woooaahhh!! I went back and read it 3 times to make sure I read it right! Wowza’s – I just know your new country home will be every bit as awesome as your home now. Enjoy the adventure! xxx

Tiffany - I hate moving. But not if I got to keep two houses, BONUS!!! I wish my 2nd house were on a beach though, aaaaaaaaaaaaah…. The intro was great. Will you start blogging with a country drawl? ha ha, I crack myself up.

tina - We live in the country and wouldn’t have it any other way!!!! Good luck!!!

Erika - The country rocks. Can’t wait to see pictures of the new place!

Kelly - Wow!! Awesome news! I was always the last to know things growing up because they claimed I was the first to go tell!! Good luck at your new place. Loving the indoor basketball barn!

Meredith - I can’t help but imagine how excited Waffle is going to be with all that space to roam. Space is good for everyone’s soul and being close to school simply changes everything about how you start your day doesn’t it? Congrats to you and Craig for making big, brave decisions.
Wish I could send you a big tray of cinnamon rolls to welcome you to your new home. Meredy xo

This Farm Family's Life - Wow! Congratulation and best of luck!

nicole @ deliajude - awesomeness. i think I have a small pang of envy but that is only because I live in the uber overpriced SF bay area and could not fathom 2 houses! God has a great adventure for you and your family.

jodi @ back40life - we live on 9 acres out in the country and absolutely LOVE it! there’s just nothing like it…last night we had a bonfire/campfire and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows…absolutely love it!
enjoy, enjoy!!

Laura Lee - I have never met you in reality and my first emotion when I read that was MAJOR sadness about you not being in your awesome house!!! so weird. And then big relief to hear it will still be yours. lol. I can’t imagine a cooler house than yours. Good luck this weekend! excited to see more πŸ™‚

ingrid - I’m laughing…..cuz even tho I don’t KNOW you, I feel like I KNOW you. And it seems like something you would do. Waffle is going to love it there!

Southern Gal - Wow! You definitely know how to keep a secret. I think I’ll call you next time I’ve got a big secret I need to tell, but need to keep to myself a while! That’s fabulous. I love the barn. And being able to keep both houses is a sweet bonus. Congratulations.

sandee prince - First 71toes announces she is moving yesterday. And then you?!!!! Makes me wanna move too! lol
Kidding on that last one. We just moved into our new house and LOOOOOOOVE.
Congrats on the new house. I really like that barn πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to see all your new transformations!

Cindy - I LOVE IT!! So excited for you! At first, I was wondering how you were ever going to walk away from that gorgeous house you’re in now…so glad that you don’t have to! Can’t wait to see the beauty you bring to the new one πŸ˜‰

katey - What are you going to name your old house that is sure to become your “bed and breakfast craft retreat house” new business venture? πŸ™‚ God has big plans for you Meg Duerksen!!!

Ali - WOW WOW WOW!!!!! Congrats!! This sounds like the BEST of both worlds to me!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOO awesome!!

Michelle - Very, very INTERESTING. All I can say is, keep those blog posts coming!

Andrea @ Big Creek Cottage - Wow….I am in shock……or something….I was ready to miss your house (I love your house and I have never been there…how silly is that?)….but your new house sounds great…..so what is not to love. I can’t wait to see it and what you do with it…..Congratulations! Hurry and post some more pictures! (when are you having a barn party????)

elisa - I thought for sure it was going to be kid #6
But moving?? You just want to be like me πŸ™‚
Haha. Can’t wait to follow you on this adventure!!!

Meredith Salmon - That is great news!!! I have to admit I was thinking “how could they leave the other house?”, but you are keeping it. Your house is my dream house and until I read on I was in complete shock. Congrats and you will love it! God bless!!!

amber - Exciting!!! I cannot wait to see you decorate the new place!

Victoria - Wow. What cool news. That barn is awesome and I can’t wait to see what you do with the house.

Juli - What!? What a surprise! The house looks awesome and I love the country. The kids will love it. I’ll be praying for your 1 out of 5 who is not excited about it.

Sunny Haynes - What a wonderful adventure for you and your family! Best of luck in your move this weekend! I know I hate moving but it is always exciting to unpack and start new!

pam - I tried to leave a comment on the jewelry post…but I missed the window! ha! πŸ™‚
I’m so glad you posted pictures of the new place. It’s so lovely! Straight out of a book…or movie. πŸ™‚
Miss you. The move will be so awesome.

Ashley - Whoa! Thank goodness you are keeping your house! I literally said out loud reading the post….”WHAT? You don’t LEAVE THAT HOUSE!!!!! Certainly she won’t sell it!!!???” then I kept reading and chilled out! hhaa. I was also for a moment playing over in my head how I could convince my hubby to pack up and move cross country, Just because the most perfect house in the world is on going to be on the market! hahha. Glad you are keeping your house! and glad for your new adventure! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the new rental to “Meg it up!”:)

Sophie - Wow! congrats! I really wasn’t expecting news like that from the introduction!
It seems like a really charming place and somewhere you will all be happy… I’m going to miss seeing your old house on your blog so much though!

jacqui anderson - OMG! at first i had to go re-read it and check who’s blog I was on!!!! then i was super worried about craft weekend!!! and then i was excited for you πŸ™‚

Dani - WOW! I grew up in the country of Mississippi. Actually, I think the entire state is country… Your kids will love it. There will be so many new adventures for them. I will be sad to not see that beautiful house of yours, but look forward to seeing what you will do with this one!

Rachel J - Whoa! When reading this post I felt like my bff next door was moving far away! Even though we live nowhere near each other in real life. And I’m glad you are keeping your house, it’s too awesome to give up. But no doubt you and Craig and GOD have worked it all out πŸ™‚
Good luck with the move!

Barbara - I’m so happy for you and your family, Meg!! Wishing you lots of happiness and great memories in your new home. May all who enter its doors be blessed!
Barbara

Terrie G - Ok girl…almost had to restart my heart! That is until I read you were keeping the old house!!
So, now…I’m jealous…You don’t just have a craft room…you have a craft HOUSE!! Wonder if my hubba will go for that…hmmmm?!
I’m so excited for you and your family! Some of our best family times were living in the country on the family farm stead for 17 years! My hubba made an awesome basketball goal that was adjustable from like 3 feet to the top of the shed. (yes, we had a shed, not a barn)
And…I love Green Works products! Use them all the time! πŸ™‚

tara - enjoy the adventure!
waffle will be in some sort of layer of dog heaven. πŸ™‚

Susan - Okay! So it appears that we are all in shock! I think it will be awesome and so happy you are keeping your beautiful home! Happy moving!

Samantha Bayer - Awesome! Got to love farms….they give kids so many good memories!

Jackie Barnum - Wow! I never would have guessed that! LOL I was going to say I would love to buy your old house. But gosh darn it you’re keeping it. I don’t blame you. It is my dream house. I don’t think I could talk my hubbby into moving all the way to Kansas anyway. πŸ™ Your new house looks just as beautiful!

Tere - I’m in shock.
I’m still processing.
I LOVE your house.
But I LOVE the country.
I’m excited….
Can’t wait to see the changes.
xoxo Tere

Linda - BLogland is a funny thing. You have hundreds of people who follow you. And somehow we feel like we know you!. My first thoughts like many were oh my that house!! Maybe I can convince my husband to relocate to Kansas and buy it! How fortunate you are to be able to keep that beautiful home and still move your family to an area you think will be be better for them. You are truly blessed. What a great opportunity for you and your family. The house you are renting is already cute but I know we will all love it when it has your touches to it. Best of luck moving can be such a stressful thing. And I hope the one child who is upset may soon have their spirits lifted. Again good luck!

Kimberly Dial - Oh my goodness! You must have the most peaceful spirit about you to be able to host 2 CW’s, take care of the hubs & 5 children, blog & move all within such a short period of time. I understand how your oldest girlie feels. My family moved clear across the country the summer before my senior year. It can be very hard but an adventure all the same (be patient with her momma – she can’t help herself πŸ˜‰

Emily - Waffle will be so happy!

Joy - This is so exciting, and I think that I love that you told us just now instead of talking about it a while. I think I may be a little too spoiled with our society’s “I want it now” concept. Yay for moving! This will be so fun to see how you make this house your home too!

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - Oh my gosh.. I can’t believe you are moving! Your house is so gorgeousssss. Well, if you ever do decide to sell, I bet your house would sell in .2 seconds to one of your blog readers. πŸ˜‰
My thoughts are, whenever you live, I know you will make it beautiful. And you have made a LOT of memories in your “old” house, but you will surely make a lot in the new house, too. πŸ™‚ A new chapter in the life of the Duerksen’s.. How fun!
Best wishes in your new chapter, Meg. πŸ™‚
PS- You made sure that there is a Sonic by the rental house, right?? πŸ˜‰

Laura Phelps - I think the best is yet to come…..:-)

Heidi Jo the Artist - Super duper excited for you guys!!! Your kids are going to have so much fun! I grew up on a farm and love the country life and crave to be back there for so many reasons. Not sure where we will end up, but we don’t plan to stay in our house forever either. We are in a questionable place too–to build or buy. I love old houses, but land is so dang expensive and I would want more than just a couple acres (love gardening and animals-which both need some space), so we’ve considered building on my parents’ land, but that can be expensive too. Looking forward to more photos of the place!

tiffany gardner - BLESSINGS to you my fav blog girl on this new adventure. I always used to run from change but I now try to look at it as…wow…God has something new planned for me! You will be in my prayers as you become a country girl! p.s. my kids and I read little house on the prairie books and watch the shows and I secretly want to be a country girl too! xo!

bread and jam - Well, I guess I better call that realtor and tell them I’m not moving down the street from you after all.
Ok, now this is really awkward.

Anessa - Can I move in and take care of your house? I love your house! I am sure you will make the new one just as wonderful. What a surprise to throw at us! Well congrats and can’t wait to see pics.

Brooke in WI - Oh my goodness! I was a little worried at first that you would completely leave that beautiful home. Someday I will get to live in the country again.

Heather S. - Shock. Utter shock. So glad you are keeping your rockin’ old house. It is the complete opposite of mine. Old vs. New, White vs. Colored walls everywhere, multi-level vs. ranch, etc. I love looking at your photos because the space just seems FRESH! I’m excited to see what you do in the new place. Country living. Very cool. Also – my first thought: Why the heck did Meg do all that work on the bathroom just to leave it? But isn’t that typical? Make the house just how you want and then leave it. I’m glad you’ll at least be keeping the house!

Sarah Wolfe - Excited for you and your family. And completely jealous of that barn πŸ™‚

Kerstie Pederson - I think it’s awesome! I think it’s big, bold, and brave! I have been reading your blog for over a year, your home is so much a part of it. So, my jaw did hit the floor!!! BUT, I did have sigh of relief knowing your NOT selling…. pheeew. How fun this will be for your family.
Best of luck…… God is awesome like this….. opportunity! πŸ˜‰

Tracy Fisher - I love it! It’s fun to do random, out of the ordinary things with just your family. Congrats to you. p.s. my kids would love that barn.
tracy

Lori Bowring Michaud - Wow! How exciting (and terrifying for you)! I hope all those “possibilities” work out for you!

Lori Tacchino - So fun to see where you are moving-it’s just darling! Cant wait to see a tour and how you “doll it up”.

Janelle - So I just logged off, walked around the house, and I just have to tell someone “can you believe Meg is moving.” But I have no one to tell because the kids are at preschool and they have no idea who you are. πŸ™‚
So I’m posting another comment to all your readers to say “CAN YOU BELIEVE MEG IS MOVING!?”

Christine - I had to read this 3x. I was like “what?!?!” I’m sure this is a good choice for your family. I hate packing and moving stuff, so I feel for you. I hope your new adventure is all you hope it to be.
I think I want to see the inside of this house so soon!

Jennifer@beautyinbloom - I think its awesome! Yay for getting to keep your old house! Love the barn too! Hope your move is smooth and easy!

Toni :O) - I too was like oh man, I LOVE their house and then I was like, wow…that’s huge and then I was like, wow again, TWO houses…whoa!!! God bless ya, I don’t know HOW you do those craft weekends and move and run your house (or houses I guess!) and take care of that huge family AND cook?!!! What???!!!! You truly are SUPER WOMAN! I’m excited for everyone, the country house looks fab! I’m sure you’ve made your neighbor Amy sad…sniff, sniff…although now she has an awesome country home to visit you in. Best wishes in making your new home a lovely, snuggly, cozy place of comfort! God bless! :O)

Janelle - WOW. That was my first thought. WOW. My second thought was can I buy her house and move us all to Kansas? Then I read further and saw you were keeping it πŸ˜‰ I’m a Chicago suburb girl…we’ve always pondered the thought of moving towards the country but I am still addicted to little things like Target. Can’t wait to read about your new house.
BTW thank you so much for your blog. It is the first one…and only one of two…that I have ever read. I know I will probably never meet you but I love hearing about your family/life/activities and it’s fun having you as a pretend friend πŸ™‚

Ashley B. - I love how a lot of us commenters seem to be of the same mind, “How dare you move without consulting us???” as if we’re active members of your life πŸ™‚
As you led up to it, I was thinking “Omg she’s pregnant,”
then, “No wait, Craig can’t have kids anymore since that ‘procedure,'”
then, “Omg what is she about to tell us???”
to, “They CAN’T MOVE!!! What about the pretty and totally renovated, bad-ass house?!?!?”
So, I’m glad to hear you’re keeping the old house. Although, like the rest of the readers, I will need some time to adjust πŸ™‚ I’m glad the majority of the kids are happy about it (and I have a sneaking suspicion of which one isn’t…as I too, ended up moving as a teenager, and wasn’t too nice to my parents as a result). I’ve moved constantly, my entire life (7 times in the last 2 years alone), so I don’t feel like one move should be grounds for catasrophic reactions. Still. It will definitely take some time for this to sink in for me.
Congrats! πŸ™‚

Jennifer S. - This post is like an episode of Parenthood…MORE! I want more. I’m just nosey, though, haha.
It seems perfect! Hope you have an easy move.

Holly - oh wow.. that is awesome…..I think, lol. Congrats!

lynette - Exciting news, can’t wait to see what you do with the new house. I love the idea of being in the country! Glad you are not getting rid of your old house, it is so beautiful! Have a good move this weekend, praying it all goes quickly!

Jennifer - My first thought was “Oh my goodness–you’re leaving that incredible house!” I was glad to see you are keeping it, and I can see how that would be great for your craft weekends, etc. When I saw the other house, I understood the appeal. I love the country! And a barn with a basketball goal? Priceless.

Lori Austin - Wow – you are brave. I don’t handle change well. The house, barn and land look awesome! I agree with the last post – how have you had the energy for all of this???!!!!

Kim - That is big news! Being close to school is a wonderful thing. My kids walk to school – it makes life so much simpler. I hope you enjoy your new adventure. I’m looking forward to seeing what God does!

sarah - I cant imagine how you have done all of that AND had two craft weekends! So fun!

christy - WOW! The hime looks adorable & the space, WOW! What a great place for the kids. Sounds exciting & fun. Glad to hear you are not leaving the other house fully.

jen smith - well i’m a little sad that you are leaving your uber fabulous old house. i seriously am so envious of it. that being said we long for the country too. we long for room to move and breathe and play so i totally get where you’re coming from. cheers to your new home!

Robin - OK, moving is an exciting change, and you’re sure to get loads of comments about it all. Of course, we wonder about all the details, which are none of our business. but it especially makes me want your checkbook if you can afford to keep one house and rent another. best of luck though!

Amanda - WOW! Big big news! At first I was thinking, ‘I have to tell my boyfriend!” and then I realized he would have absolutely no idea what I was talking about. But, WOW!

Kelly - I think I’m completely jealous of the country and barn thing. AND you get to keep your awesome house?!? Very cool!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - OHHH!! Awesome! Have a wonderful, wonderful time! πŸ™‚ I’m so happy for you!

Lindsey - In the country, with a barn…very cool! Change is good sometimes!

Naomi - I was hoping you were onto something with the pregnancy thing… haha!
You must be WonderWoman to have hosted those Craft Weekends while packing to move house. I am in awe of you!
My parents moved my family from a big town to the middle of the country when I was 18. I was ‘that’ grumpy teenager that resisted everything all the way, but I am still alive and the move did not kill me! Hope your one resistant kid comes around πŸ™‚ xx

jennifer - Yay! I’m SO excited for you! I love, love, love moving. Not the packing part, but the new, the change, the excitement. I’m very happy for you and I know first hand the blessing of moving closer to the kids school. We did it a little over a year ago and I was amazed at what a relief it was. Can’t wait to see all that God has for you in the new place He’s brought you to.

Angel/TaDa!Creations - Wow, I am in total shock! Picking my jaw up off the floor. I could never leave that house!!! But when you said you were keeping it, I settled back down again. How exciting for your family and this new chapter. Praying God’s many blessings on you and your family in this new home. Love the barn and the country.

Molly - Wow!! That is exciting news!!! Not gonna lie I am excited to see how you transform this new house into your home!!!

asnipofgoodness - first I was like WHAT???? then I was like HUHHHH?? then I was all something about moving?????? hahaha that was kinda awkward, especially cuz we don’t even know each other really, and I’m all indignant like “she can’t just move”, and “what about her cute house” and “she didn’t even tell me!!” haha, I LOVE the new digs though, so you go girl, more power to you!

jackie - Wow! Love the barn, and how awesome to have two places. Can’t wait to hear all about it, and living in the country, GREAT!

Jacci - What do I think?
I think…
I think, you’re going to get a MILLION comments on this!
I think, I kind of freaked at first. I even got up from the computer and muttered something about how you must be joking.
I think, then I got pretty excited for you.
And I can’t wait to see what FUN you all get yourselves into in the country πŸ™‚
I think, I want to see how you decorate a rental πŸ˜‰
I think, it’s awesome you’re keeping the other house… for now. It gives us all time to adjust. ha ha.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rita - I love this new rental. How much fun this will be. Seems like most people are in transition I am myself. I hope over time you sell the house you own. Someone will want it and you won’t want two homes to upkeep. But that might not be your plan. πŸ™‚ I’m trying to do garage sale, Ebay, sort and use plastic bins to make my life smaller. I’m happy for you. I believe this will be a great move.

stephany - FUN! Can’t wait to see what your future holds…
Congratulations and good luck with the big move!

beth e. - Pick my jaw up from the floor! all i could think was, OH MY, how could she leave the doodled bathroom behind??!!! and your craft room, and, etc…..SO GLAD to hear you get to keep your home, therefore i can hold on to the dream of someday visiting for a craft weekend : ) sending you good energy for a smooth move this weekend!

Kristin - love! i wish we could find something like that – enjoy the country life. πŸ™‚

Brooke - HOW EXCITING!!!!! Your house would be an awesome Bed and Breakfast FYI! I’m excited for your family and the journey out to the country. Kansas Country is so beautiful and quiet! We just moved out to Bel Aire from the College Hill area in Wichita and I feel like i’m out in the country…we can smell cows…so that counts right? πŸ™‚ I love the quiet. it’s so peaceful!

Jennifer - I was about to be crushed…crazy, huh? I don’t really know you. πŸ™‚ I was like, why are you moving from that awesome house!? Still want to know why, but of course its really none of my business. I’m curious as to why 4 of your kids go to school in another town, but again, none of my business. At least your are keeping your awesome house…whew crisis adverted. Can’ wait to see the inside of the new place. Happy moving!

Anna - The house looks great! It will be so fun to watch you transform it into a home! Congratulations and good luck with the move.

Mandy - Wow! Crazy! Not at all what I was expecting. I love the new house….and the old one – so glad you are keeping it! Good luck on the move! Can’t wait to see what design savvy things you do to the new house to make it home!
http://dailydoseoframblings.blogspot.com

Julianne Brimner - Love it and can’t wait to see what you will do with your country home. Also do you need me to move and be the caretaker of your city home. I promise to bake for you when you come back to visit….okay I guess it would be a commute from southern Indiana, but I love that house.

Tricia - What a surprise!
I hope that your move goes well and that you are all very happy in your new home!

Megan - My husband and I have moved 7 times in the last 6 years, so anytime I hear about anyone moving I automatically feel sorry for them, even in the best circumstances. Moving is hard and stressful… but I truly believe it can be a WONDERFUL thing as long as you remind yourself to keep looking forward, not backwards, and really reach out to make new friends. Although if you’re still going to have your old house maybe your new place isn’t too far away that you’d be experiencing new friends, new people, new everything.
GOOD LUCK… I love the house and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. And how fun to have TWO spaces to decorate and make yours.

A Facebook User - WOW what a suprise. How exciting. Good luck with the move. Can’t wait to see what you do with this house. It’s so stinking cute from the outside. My boys would love that basketball goal inside the barn. Awesome.

Megan - Sounds like the best of both worlds, being able to have a country home and a city home! Enjoy the opportunity and have fun with it!

Barbara Smith Wilke - congrats! when I was in highschool, my family moved into a 22 acre property of woods… on a river! it was so awesome and my friends and I made so many memories I’ll never forget. good luck moving this weekend! πŸ™‚

Anna Marie - I had to re-read some of that.
At first I was like…
“Wow, I am surprised they want to move out of that awesome house.”
And then I was like…
“I want to buy that house.”
Then I was like…”Oh, how awesome, what a neat idea!”
Haha…
I can’t wait to see what your future holds. And I am so jealous of the country and barn! Yay for you, Meg!!!

Amanda Jo - How exciting!!! I cannot wait to see what you do with the place and how your family settles in!!

Courtney - Wow! That’s crazy! It sounds wonderful to be out in the country like that. So happy that you are keeping your beautiful house though! And what a bonus to be able to decorate another space!

kim - I LOVE the barn and Hoosiers (bet I’ve seen it 100 times for the real) I think it will be a great adventure and am so excited for you..from afar..not like some crazy blog stalker…I’ll be going now.
