happy birthday chicago jenny.

IMG_1980
today is her birthday.
she is getting really old.

chicago jenny does not read my blog.

i know!!!!

you read that correctly.
chicago jenny…my best friend…the woman who helped me birth my babies….who took care of my kids when i was too hungover sick…the friend who has been to see me in kansas 5 times…

does not read my blog.

it's not clear as to why she doesn't read it.

maybe it's because she thinks i am too happy on the blog?
(i do complain a lot to my friends in real life)
maybe she misses me so much that reading the blog makes her sad?

maybe she knows that in real life i talk/laugh/joke about s*x (it's true!)
and it bugs her that i don't on the blog? (my grandma reads this blog jenny…)
maybe she thinks i am so funny in person and the blog is no comparison????
maybe she wants to be mentioned in every blog post?
maybe her internet can only get facebook and can't open my blog?
maybe she can't read?
maybe she thinks i don't play sequence well enough?
maybe she can't stand the all-lowercase-letters-rule i have here?

maybe she's mad about the photos i posted of her in the gown from thrift store?
maybe she thinks i am boring?
maybe it's because she is a chemist and only likes to read blogs about chemistry?

i guess maybe it's because she works a few different jobs.
and her husband is always making her go go go to all kinds of fun places.
and she is involved in the school and committees
and she has a big extended family that she spends lots of time with.
and she reads books.

and MAYBE it's because we are already best friends without the blog…she just doesn't need it.

but i hope today (after or before her sister's wedding) she will see her
happy birthday blog post so you can all wish her a happy birthday

and i can tell everyone, including her how much i love her.

happy birthday jenny!

Rebecca - Happy Birthday! šŸ™‚ My sister and/or best friends doesn’t read my blog either! šŸ™‚

Chicago Jen - Thank you all for your happy birthday wishes. I spent a delicious day in sunny California for my sister’s wedding. My awesome hubby put balloons and streamers in the dining area of the hotel lobby. BTW, I don’t check the blog because when (or IF) she ever calls me, we will have nothing to say since I know it already. Perhaps with my new Itouch, I can keep up with her a little better. love ya meg

pam - happy, happy, happy birthday Chicago Jenny!!! Cheers to BFF’s! šŸ™‚

Jenny - No way!!! I know Chicago Jenny! I am another Chicago Jenny who went to Christian Heritage Academy with YOUR Chicago Jenny. SOOOOOOO weird! What was her maiden name? I’m sure it is the same Jenny…I was Jenny Liace (sounds like Leeachee) back then. You’ve got to let me know…

Tammy - Happy Birthday Chicago Jenny, all the way from SW Ohio!

Kimberlee J. - Hysterical. Laughing through the entire thing.

Mandi - Happy birthday Jenny, all the way from Tennessee!

Mother Runner - Hey. Can you give Jenny a message for me…”HAPPY BIRTHDAY”!

Diana - ROTFL!!
But, honey, she doesn’t NEED to read your blog… she already has you as her best friend in real life!
Happy Birthday, Chicago Jenny!
šŸ˜€

your cool friend Cheryl - Happy birthday Chicago Jenny! Thanks for sharing your friend with us šŸ™‚
I think it’s funny that the people we know don’t read our blogs. I only know 2 of my readers in real life!
I live in Chicago…does that make me Chicago Cheryl? šŸ˜‰

Amy at The Red Chair Blog - Cute post. I can relate. Your best friend doesn’t read my blog either šŸ™‚

Jill J - It’s SO true! Only a few of my friends read too. (Hi back Jennifer!!! She started me on your blog) Which is SO depressing. šŸ™ Especially because I have a closed blog and only my friends and family can read my blog.
Well, I hope that Chicago Jenny reads your blog today. Because that is so sweet!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Happy Birthday, Jenny!!!

Kate - Oh wow! Me too šŸ™‚ And my best friend – Chicago Jen (weird, huh?!) just became DC Jen… I’m glad it’s not just me… šŸ™‚

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh happy birthday Jenny. I don’t understood why some of my closest friends don’t read my blog either…I mean complete strangers seem to love me, but my friends??? HA! Love your writing style Meg…so fun to read:)

Simies - Happy birthday, Jenny! You are lucky girl to have such a best friend!

jennifer - Oh this is so funny and I’m so glad I’m not alone. I started my blog several months ago when we moved as way to keep in touch with my friends and only one reads it. (Hi Jill!)
Of course I’ve posted nothing new in weeks, but I’m sure that has nothing to do with it. šŸ™‚
Happy Birthday Chicago Jenny! And thanks for sharing Meg with us!

Lorilee - I know what you mean! I have many friends who don’t know what blogging is! I even have some friends who choose not to have computers in their homes.
Blessings,
Lorilee

linda@LimeintheCoconut - Ok…I am not alone. My closest friends don’t read my blog either (although I catch my mother sneaking a peak).
I’m going with answer 7. They can’t read.
Yep. 7
So there Chicago Jenny… and my friends(who probably read YOUR blog…Hey, maybe Chicago J reads mine. I feel better now.)
Happy Day Chicago J!

Staci - Happy Birthday Chicago Jenny!!!!!!!!!! READ MEG’S BLOG šŸ™‚ hee hee!

pve - I know it is a weird phenomena that best friends do not read the blog, but that those we never have met can immediately know that if you did meet you would be instant friends and maybe it makes those friends just a tad jealous. that could be why your friend does not read it, unless, maybe she does not really like you anyway…..ha!
happy birthday to your friend jenny that does not read your blog.

my birthday was just right.

IMG_4525
craig let me sleep in and HE got the kids ready and took them to school…so quietly.
annie snuck in to tell me happy birthday and she was wearing this.
loved it.
after she was off to school i took off for wichita for some shopping/browsing alone.
(i really do love to be alone…so that was cool to get time to do that on my birthday…i am a dork)

IMG_4536

IMG_4527

if i had gone to the bookstore
first i doubt i would've left.

i just love looking through
so many books.
i never buy any….i am that lady.
the one with the huge stack
of books and leaves with nothing.
sorry barnes and noble.

i went to the fabric store

first and found anna maria horner
in wichita!  that's exciting.
i asked the woman working in
the tiny shop if they had more
and she very quickly said "No."
i thought that was weird.
sure enough…
i did find more in the wrong
spot…mixed in with strange
fabrics.
the lady said
"i like this Ann Martin."
????

she must need better glasses.

i met up with two girls
for lunch at sugar sisters.

we ate our cupcakes first.

oh yum…

i got the

SALTED CARMEL.
the other girls got chocolate.
i totally want to bake after
i go there…bake pretty that is.

i wished we had all day to hang out…i am sure we would have been able to talk the entire time.  :)

they were worried about their double chins….and look who is the only one who has one.  HA!

my gift was the chalkboard mug from starbucks.
i had held it in my hands earlier that day in starbucks by myself and thought

"i love this…who could i get it for?  i LOVE it!"

then i put it back on the shelf and forgot about it.

nice job craiggers.

this could be a first….it's rare.

i was very surprised.

IMG_4585

it was a good day.

craig wanted to do more for me but i kept saying "i'm fine.  let's just sit here at home."

i was happy to be home.

and loved.

and thought of.

thanks for all the birthday wishes.

thanks for reading the blog-o-la.

i am one happy thirty four year old.

eds - the salted caramel is the absolute best! (and i would know b/c one time i went and tried almost all of the ones available…oops!)

Jennifer Whitcombb - Hope you had a great birthday! What fabric store did you go to in Wichita? I can never find anything I like at Hancock fabrics! Thanks!
Jennifer

kristin - happy birthday, friend.
annie announced to the class that it was your birthday. and yes, that outfit was GOOD.

Sarah V. - I’m glad you had a good day! Happy Birthday again!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - You make me even more excited for 34. (It’s less than a year away, after all…) Also, have I ever told you how much I love the fact that you allow your kids to dress like crazy people? I let my kids dress like crazy people, too, but I think I’m the only one around my parts. All the other pre-schoolers are all “cool” looking and coordinated, while Calvin is wearing kelly green track pants with a tie-dyed t-shirt with a red IU mesh jersey over top. Hang on, almost done here…. I also love, love, love spending an afternoon alone and sleeping in is the best gift and everytime I hear “I’m Alive” I think of you, which is weird, since I don’t even know you.
The end.

Laura Phelps - WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!!! I DO KNOW WH I AM SO SAD!!!!!!!!!
You are ONLY 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
34
holy moly
so fantastic and so many kids and so talented and such a beautiful home….
and ONLY
34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel old
THAT is why I felt sad
phew…I feel better now knowing…thought I had lost my blogging mind!

Laura Phelps - I dont know why, but this post made me happy-sad. Don’t even know what that is! Just happy…to see you happy…doing things that would totally make ME happy, but sort of sad, too…because…I dont know! Maybe because the pictures are SO beautiful, and I FEEL their beauty, and I wish I could be doing all of what you did RIGHT NOW instead of having a sort or boring, depressing Saturday….wow…I think I need therapy! Got this all from one birthday post!
I just think you and your life are awesome. And I thank YOU for sharing it all with me.

Trina McNeilly - Happy happy birthday to you!!!! Sounds like a delightful day! And I know you will have a beautiful year! God bless!

Kyleigh Orlebar - I’ve just googled ‘Life is Beautiful’ – I’ve never seen it! Might have to add it to my LoveFilm account… Your birthday looked ACES BACES! DreamGirlLisa - What a great birthday! One of my favorite things to do,and I usually do it alone, but have been known to bring a friend or my 13 year-old daughter, is to sit for hours at B & N with a coffee and big stack of magazines and decorating/cookbooks…and I never buy anything (besides the coffee). Sounds like you had a perfect day, ending with those most important in you life, what could be better??

Kelly - happy birthday!!

Lora - OK. I need to move to the USA. They do not write your name on the cup at Starbucks here in Canada. Would it be so difficult? And, they don’t have those mugs….it’s irritating how many COOL things I see on here and try to order them, only to get the message, “not shipped to Canada”. happy 60th birthday MOM!!

this is what we did on saturday night…

weeks of planning…lots of secrets…phone calls…sneakiness…

a birthday SURPRISE party!!!

we took my mom and dad out to eat and when we got back

her driveway was full of friends!

she was so surprised.

Candy's 60th 025

Candy's 60th 024

she hugged everyone and was so shocked.

we went inside…yes…the party was at her own house….we had to be very clean during this visit.

and her house is always very clean so we thought it was the perfect place!

we kept saying "let's clean up for grandma's birthday gift"

my sister had these posters made from old pictures of mom

and Ann hung them up all over the house…hysterical!

this one greets you at the door…

a toga party in 1980?

IMG_9337 IMG_9336

IMG_9333 2 IMG_9333

they were so much fun.

friends that were there were from way-back-when all the way to her newest friends.

and it was such a great mix.

IMG_9278

talby and annie made the banner for grandma.

she had so much help with her presents…

IMG_9358

IMG_9384

my other kids and husband were here too but i forgot to include them in pictures…oops.

it was a great party.

mom…i am so glad you were surprised.

it was obvious how happy you were and loved you felt.

and you are.

happy 60th birthday!

thank you to all her friends who came and helped with food, drinks, prep and everything.

it was a success.

thanks!

lauren - love your blog…have been meaning to comment forever.
the toga party in ’80 was probably due to the success of a movie called, ‘animal house’ (i’m a little older than you!)
also wanted to tell you how i do christmas with my kids. i remember a while back you wondered how to make their gift exchange more meaningful. i only have 3 and they’re a little older than yours…19, 16 and 12 now…but they were much younger when we started this.
as christmas approached, i gave them special jobs to do to earn the money for their gifts for eachother. they each had 2 jobs which earned them $5 a piece. that money bought each of their two siblings a gift. we increased the size of job and the money they earned as they got older. last year it was $10. they put a lot of thought into what to get. it’s been cute to watch them progress from lego sets to american eagle gift cards…and to see one of my older boys go to claire’s to get a gift card for his little sister.
makes them work a little, which is good, and think about eachother…which is rare and good.
happy new school year!

jennifer - I love the 60 shirt and the banner! So fun!

Heidi Jo the Artist - Looks like an awesome time! Thanks for sharing!

She made me type your link in and look up the pictures…I haven’t made it out to see them yet…but they are gorgeous. She just thought it was the best that you came by that day. She is telling everyone about it. Stop by again the next time you are that way. You should check her garden out at the house too. She has a lovely garden. take care. Becky

Jen - Now that is what SUMMER BIRTHDAYS are all about!!!!

Dana D @BoysMyJoys - Happy Birthday Sean!!!
Meg~ Being nosey again… how is the boys’ room coming along? I’m having decorator’s block trying to re-do my boys’ room! Seems that what I want and what they want is quite different! I’m trying to find the fine line between commercial/cartoony they like, and comfy/cozy that I like! Got any words of wisdom on keeping mom and boys happy when decorating?

Rebekah - Can I copy that exact party for my birthday next month? Is 31 too old for water balloons and Legos? šŸ™‚

Deputy's Wife - Mine is turning nine on Sunday. I have been reading your blog for such a long time and now to think that we were pregnant the same year, same months (June and July were extremely hot that year I remember)… weird huh!?! Or maybe I am… HA!
We are having a drive in movie at our house for his birthday. I borrowed an LCD projector and we will be showing Ghostbusters on the side of the garage Saturday night. Can’t wait!!!

Renee - LOVE this post. Our oldest is turning five in a few weeks, so of course, I’m planning and rethinking everything. I suddenly realized looking at your pictures and reading the captions, the ONLY thing I should be planning are things that bring him pure joy and happiness. Thanks for the wake-up call. xoxo

Amber - Dang you! Now I want cupcakes and cinnabons. šŸ™‚

Aubrey - That LOOKS like the best birthday party ever. I envy people with middle of the summer birthdays who get to have fun outdoor parties. End of Feb birthdays would only be fun in Hawaii. I beter work on moving there. I think it’s reason enough. What a nice big brother for letting his little sisters hang out too.

Trish - Umm, is he available to plan my next Birthday Party?? šŸ™‚

Trish - What a fun day. Your summer is looking like so much fun!
My Addie has the same skirt that Annie has! It is her favorite, because it “dances” if it’s clean (or dirty) she wants to wear it šŸ™‚

se7en - Ahhh! Naughty Nine – I hope he has a fun year!!! The photos make me yearn for summer… yearn!!!

Amber - What great party plans! Everything just looks like so much fun. I’m wanting one of those rainbow cupcakes right now. šŸ™‚

rachel - Happy days – looks like its a superb birthday for sean šŸ˜€
my ‘giggling chunky baby’ is going to be 9 in October which makes me happy and sad all at the once!!!

Secret Mom Thoughts - Looks like a wonderful 9th birthday. Happy birthday to your guy.

alice - well a great big happy birthday to your son!
i love your blog – it’s always fun and entertaining and full of love šŸ™‚

Jamie Sampson - so cute, so fun, you are the best mom. Love it, love it all.

Amy - What fun!!!
I am dying to try the rainbow cupcakes…haven’t yet.
I have a totally unrelated question for you. What color did you use on the wall in your master bath and what white did you use for the vanity? I am putting together an idea board for my bathroom and I am terrible at picking the colors. Yours are great. Very vintage and serene at the same time!
Amy

sarah w - Happy Birthday to him!
Looks like so much fun šŸ™‚

Sally Pepper - so……are you going to share the rainbow cupcake recipe on your sidebar?? šŸ™‚

Michelle B - I have a little boy with a birthday on the 14th. He turned 3. Can I make him stay that age forever? They grow up too fast! It looks like you had a wonderful birthday party for Sean! Its fun to see what type of parties I might have coming to me in the future šŸ™‚

Notesfromthegrove - Oh my gosh, the picture of all the kids with their waterguns–PRICELESS! That’ll be a favorite of all of theirs for years to come. I have one like that with my brother, sister, and the neighbor kids all lined up on a couch. I just love that photograph. Good job with the party!

Dawn W. - I have a quick question…Did you put all six colors of the colored cake batter in each cupcake and if so how much of each? I have made the cake but never thought of doing cupcakes and I like the idea of cupcakes.

julie y. - how did you frost your cupcakes and make them look so pretty?? did you pipe the frosting?? super post! love all the pictures, so colorful!!

misty - what a lucky boy! I love all of your pictures, they’re so inspiring!! I can’t wait until my little girl is old enough to help me plan her birthday parties =) that’s so sweet.

Jocelyn Stott - Perfect. Summer. Birthday.

Cate O'Malley - He sounds like such a great kid and it’s even better when they appreciate everything so much like that. My oldest turns 7 in two weeks – where the heck does the time go?!

Dawn W. - Looks like he had a great day. Love the rainbow cupcakes. You did a great job!
Dawn

Laura Phelps - your cupcakes look beautiful and the party is simple, colorful, and spectacular
thank goodness for home made, few friends, family fun in the yard
I can not handle another invite to chuck e cheese
expensive parties
wasted money
lots of plastic junk coming home in a plastic bag
this is perfect
as always
you got it just right
happy birthday to YOU mama
this is your day, too

Diane - Summer birthdays are so much fun! Great pictures! We just had a birthday party for my 12 yr old daughter. We did treasure hunt and camp out. I wanted to follow the teams around the neighborhood on the treasure hunt with my camera but it was just me, so …

purejoy - wow everything looks so delicious and colorful and fun and i wanna be a 9 year old guy at that party. i want to go see ice age, and i’d pay extra for the 3-D!!
boys are such a blast. i have a 19 year old and he’s still a hysterical bucket of fun. i love that kid.
happy birthday!!

betsy - how fun! he looks so much like Craig in that last pic.

angela conklin - You are such a fun mom! (Or you look like you are!) What a great party without breaking the bank! The pictures are GREAT!

adrienne - i can’t imagine my life without my little boy! at first i couldn’t imagine what i was going to do with one… now i just feel so lucky to have both a boy and a girl! great party and i love the lego station!

CherryTreeLane - I love the LEGO center!

Staci - What a party!!!! I’m just curious…I LOVE the lego center idea….but with all the other fun water activities…I’m just guessing the legos got overlooked a little??? I love it that Sean helped with all the planning šŸ™‚ He’s a cutie!! And sounds like a keeper šŸ™‚

Mallory - What a great photo diary of your family! I feel the same way about my family and can’t believe how fast time flies!

kristin - oh, sweet sean. happy birthday again.

kasey - adorable.

erica - those rainbow cupcakes look like so much fun! my oldest is named sean and he is also a very meticulous thinker/organizer (at 2!). looks like a super fun day!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Those “Surprise” 3D movies are a tough pill to swallow! Same thing happened to me last month. Argh.
What a fun b-day party. Those cupcakes look heavenly!

Chele - I love ice cream cake too and it was always what I picked growing up! šŸ™‚ The ideas for a birthday are great too! Thank you for sharing your son’s special day! Made me smile! Oh by the way, I did a shout out on you today! I really do enjoy your blog!

Theadora - Looking at these pictures was quite a treat. I love the “goofball” picture. I am a third grade teacher and this age group is so fun! Thanks for sharing your family with us…they are beautiful!

Regina - What a fun party! And…it looked like the gift he was opening was Mancala. šŸ™‚ Our kiddos have loved that game for years and were just playing it again yesterday!

Starnes Fam - What a sweet message to end the post with. Love to see a pic of you, too!

Jess - Happy Birthday to Sean! Looks like an awesome time. My oldest turns 12 next week. And she’s already entered the grrr stage.

Toni :O) - The goofball photo was my favorite! That definitely looked like tons of fun and you did good obviously. The lego center was very cool. I love this blog…it’s definitely one of the coolest ones I frequent (stalk in a good way!) daily!

rebecca kriner - What did he pick for his birthday dinner?

Elma Riedstra - Love this post!! What a beautiful day for you all!! The cupcakes were really nice and I love the lego center:) Don’t our babies grow up waaaay to fast??? Have a wonderful day.

pve - my nine year old will be ten in august and i wish you were here, or for that matter, sean seems like he might be just the man for me.
these parties and birthdays just come too fast.
my girl is planning a “sleepover” -ugh.

Cara Kapp - Hi, my name is Cara and I started reading your blog about a week ago (had to go back and read everyone!) – I enjoy it so much!! I’ve got a little boy (2) and a girl (6) and live in Kommetjie (it’s a little village close to Cape Town, South Africa). I really enjoy your creativity – I love to make stuff but always have an excuse why not to make something – normally the kids is my excuse!! Our 3 week winter holidays is ending on Monday and then I’m going to start making stuff. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sandy Toes - Looks like fun! Happy Birthday~
sandy toe

Meredith - What a lucky boy – lots of brownie points for Mum & Dad! That lego centre is a fantastic idea. What a happy, happy day for your precious boy (and for you too). Well done Mumma. Meredith xo.

Keri ~ Forever Folding Laundry - Looks like a perfect day!! (And is it just me, or does he look just like your hubby??)

elizabeth - happy birthday — what a cutie, and the day seemed like a blast!

Kate - OH, so happy! What a great birthday! Great job making memories!!

i wasn't expecting anything because usually things go better with low expectations…at least for me.

craig made an awesome decision to take me, the family and his mother

to Sugar Sisters for their first ever brunch buffet.

IMG_7770IMG_7771

IMG_7746

Sugar Sisters is a small locally owned bakery.

you must go when you are in wichita…on central near oliver.

it is very cute inside…that's what sucked me in…chandeliers, chocolate brown walls and cupcakes.

the food was I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E.

i don't usually like buffets because they taste like….a buffet.

this was so good…like they knew we were coming and made it just for us.

we had quiche and waffles and scones and the best hash browns i have ever had.

EVER.

i made craig go back and get some on his plate…he agreed.

the food and coffee were fabulous but the kids were wired.

i looked at craig in the middle of the meal and said

"this meal would be perfect if the kids weren't here."

(just being completely honest)

IMG_7754

IMG_7758

there was crying because we weren't buying giant cupcakes.

sean picked up his french toast with his hand & announced "this is disgusting!"

lauren gave me the stink eye ALL year day….i wish i had gotten a picture.

scott kept saying things like "i can't believe you won't let me do this…it's my birthday!"

Boyscollage

BUT it was still good.

IMG_7766

IMG_7769

we ate till we were stuffed.

we headed home and i got to take a nap.

short but sweet.

craig made scott's birthday dinner of lasagna while i frosted his cake.

the younger three set the table all fancy (definition…we used napkins)

we hung a banner…they made chalkboard greetings…we lit candles and played his favorite song.

we tried our best to have a good birthday dinner.

i am not sure if this was accomplised.

but we tried.

IMG_7773

cake and singing.

it was sweet of him to let annie help him blow out his candles.

IMG_7781

a game of Disney's Scene It before bed…scott's team won.

then goodnight.

one hour later he comes into the craft room….."mom…how come you didn't give me my present?'

"OH NO SCOTT! we just forgot i guess!"

duh.

again.

it was only money but still…we forgot!

but so did he.

two events i one day is just too much?

maybe.

(these posts are getting very long recently….i must have a lot on my mind!)

Sarah - Happy Mother’s Day to one of the best mom’s I “know” (blog knowing counts!)!

abigail - can we get the recipe for the yummy cake? it looks fabulous!

Aubrey - You are the QUEEN of awesome birthday cakes and cool candles for them! I won’t ask where these are found–I’ll actually go and LOOK. I think I need to just open my eyes at the store (I’m so lazy).
Now I’m so hungry for chocolate cake and brunch food that doesn’t taste brunchy.

Jessica - Hi!
I sent a comment not so long ago offering a donation to Cora’s Playground in exchange for scraps of fabric, and I’m thinking my reply got stuck in your spam, I sent it back on May 1st. Sometimes yahoo and gmail don’t play so nice in the sandbox. I am still very interested if you are still willing!
Jessica

JerriR - You looked lovely! That place is too darn cute! I want some cupcakes! Stink eye…well it gets better with age-we’re at 18 and I still get it, but only once in a while. Thanks for keeping it real and I recommend you take a much deserved VACATION day!

Meredith - You crack me up.

Traci - great day meg. even if you did get the stink eye. that cracked me up. ok, i might have cried to if i didn’t get to go home with a giant cupcake.

carissa... brown eyed fox - you bring smiles!!!!!
mothers day AND a birthday! a lot for one day!
especially like you said… when you add in all the normal kid stuff! šŸ™‚
might i say girl… you looked beautiful!
oh AND… i would have eaten til i stuffed myself too! VERY cute place!

Liz - You have the most cheerful blog. I love coming here!
And… YOU HAVE TO GO! You will love Eureka. I promise. Stay at the Crescent Hotel if at all possible. It’s pricey, but so fun. They have champaign brunches on Sunday in the ballroom, rooftop dining. I cant talk about it any more or I’ll be sad I’m home. šŸ™‚

Ellen - I love looking at the pictures you take. You are such a wonderful photographer!

Christy - Meg, I have tears from laughing so hard about the present. The reason your blog is my favorite of all is because you don’t always “ice the cake”. You really keep it real & whether you have 0, 1, or 5 kids we can relate that it isn’t always perfect all of the time. I love that. Some days you also make me wish I still lived in the small town in Missouri I grew up in, just sometimes. šŸ™‚
Thank you for being you & “keeping it real”.

Adrienne - Reading other’s responses, I’m feeling quite redundant!
Who wouldn’t love you. You’re real. You’re funny. You make us feel like we’re normal and still good Moms with our “keeping it real” thoughts you say for us.
And just reading your blog I feel I know you.
Adrienne

Donje - That looks like a great place to celebrate Mother’s Day! Just found your blog. It’s awesome!

Courtney - What a sweet boy to forget about his present. Seriously, some kids are so worried about gifts… you have good kids šŸ™‚

Alyssa - You are too funny!!
Love your blog!
It is really my favorite!!
I just love it!!
Thank you for sharing your life with me.

Trina McNeilly - sounds like a great day!
Happy, belated, mother’s day to you!
xx

Karina - If it weren’t for the text, I would never have guessed from the pictures that your family and your day was less than perfect (I, too, would have loved to see the stink eye, lol!). And your text – lovely, real, and yet poetic – is never, never too long, I could read your blog ALL DAY.
You do seem preoccupied a bit, or harder on yourself lately or something…But I guess a lot of us could say that! Happy belated Mother’s Day! (I have a son with a birthday that often falls on Mother’s Day too, so I can relate – this year his was on Monday, and we still forgot to do everything we had planned to do!)

Sandy - I don’t know if Julia will see this, but your comment made me laugh! Your son’s response to you wanting to go to the beach alone was super funny!! Thanks for sharing šŸ™‚
Meg, I love your blog, your pictures, and most of all your honesty! Blogs that want everyone to think life is perfect make me want to puke.

Mindy Harris - You looked adorable for Mother’s Day.
I want to go to Sugar Sisters; plan to this week!
I love how you do your cakes!

Julia - What a fabulous bakery. We don’t have things like that here (my theory: girls aren’t supposed to eat in SoFla in public). I told my husband and kids that for Mother’s Day I wanted to go to the beach by myself. My son told me “how about if we all go to the beach but we’ll sit 10 ft from you and not talk to you.” We did go to the beach and my husband took the kids on a long walk…without me.

Jess - Don’t worry about your post being long, I could read pages from you. It’s very comforting to know that you are just a real mom. We all have memory lapses(as i like to call them) and our kids are not perfect! Thanks for keeping it real and your great photography is a huge bonus!

sandy toe - This looks like a wonderful place.
sandy toe

Michelle - Great day and a great post. Glad you shared it. And happy bday to your sweet boy too.

pve - You put into words and pictures exactly how I feel. I love how you look so thrilled to be there. You put on a good show and I like that in a woman and a Mom.
pve

Heather - As always, loved reading your entry today! I shared your site with another mommy friend and told her that one of the things I most appreciate (besides the GREAT photos, fun ideas and the sense that I could be having a cup of coffee and a good chat) is that you are so authentic! You could have posted the beautiful pictures of your day and never told a soul that your cherubs were less than completely cherubic:) Thanks for that!!!
Hope your week is off to a good start!

Christina - I recently forgot to take my son’s lunch to school (we were in a rush in the morning and it’s three houses up, so I was just going to make it and bring it “later”)-my mom and I went to the grocery store with coupons and three days later, I mean, three hours later I realized that I never took Christian his lunch! He seemed okay with it, which that scenario could have gone very differently!
Anyway, I also thought it was funny that yesterday after Sunday School when I picked my two older kids up from their classes, I felt like I was trying to herd a flock of 200 sheep hepped up on amphetamines (whatever that might look like) and I said to someone in passing,”I’m earning my stripes today!” It sounds like you had that kind of a day as well.
I think you sound like such a neat person-I visit your blog regularly. I appreciate the real factor. Have a great week.

Patti - what an awesome looking place…the sign alone would have sucked me in.
those cupcakes looked divine! i’m a complete sucker for a good cupcake. there might have been tears from me too if i didn’t bring one of those home! šŸ™‚

Melissa - Great pics meg! Talby looks so much like you!
Love the blog and tha cake looks yummy!!

Sarah - This was sooo much fun to read! I don’t think that you could be too wordy but I am a little sad that you didn’t get a picture of the “stink” eye. That one made water shoot out of my nose!

Christine - you are very cute, with your forgetfulness and all.
just too many things on your mind….
i get that. šŸ™‚

Trish - yes, I am not a fan of celebrating two things on one day.
we have 5 birthdays in our immediate family within 3 weeks of each other and Christmas and New Year is in there too! CRAZY! Not a big fan… I wish I could spread out the goodness!

Laura - of course, the cupcake shot is my favorite!
and what meal wouldn’t be better withOUT the kids?????

Starnes Fam - Super cute picture of you. Will recommend this place to a friend in Wichita and will go when we visit!

Lorilee - Hi Meg,
Sugar Sisters looks awesome! YOUR cake looks delish! I love the candles.
Blessings,
Lorilee

Amber - What a yummy day! That cake rocks.
Oh, and I *love* your honesty! Keep up the great work šŸ™‚

Mrs. Dunbar - Lil dives are always the best. I would much rather eat at a ‘mom and pop’ owned restaurant than a chain any day. I love how you kept your day real. Very sweet.

ang - This cupcake place looks AWESOME!!!! Love your blog-I check often, so don’t worry about being too wordy.
That birthday cake rocks!! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who forgets presents!!

Donna - Hi again Meg – as my kids would say I am “Creepin” (aka stalking)……I get so excited when you post!!!
I have a question(or two, possibly three): I have the same camera as you………you’e pics are so great. Did you just learn to use it yourself??? Mine are good, but not nearly as nice as yours. Also, who designed your blog – I love your large pictures!
Oh – you are never too wordy – I am always wanting more out of you!!
Your blog is my favorite!!! And I just finished making my craft room – nothing like yours, but totally inspired by YOU. thanks Meg for brighting up this “creeper” days with your blog!!!
Donna

Shannan - 1. I have always loved the sound of Wichita. And I also love the spelling. I need to go there, someday.
2. Cute necklace.
3. Yummy-looking cake.
4. I always request a nap on Mother’s day, too. And most other Sundays…
5. I just posted a blog and thought, Why am I so dang wordy? Why can’t I be succinct, like Meg? Then I came directly here and read this. šŸ™‚ Trust me, compared to some of us, you’re no where near too wordy.

a thorn among roses - great sweetness batman! i love it…and i want to go tothe fab cupcake place! wooo hoo!

call the fire dept….

we're lighting craig's birthday candles.

IMG_6567
talby took this…i loved it.
(she took about a dozen like this…all cake, no heads)

craigs' birthday this year was the most laid back we've ever been.
his mom came over (with zwiebach and lots of strawberry jam).
my parents were in town so they stayed for dinner and brought an ice cream cake.
i didn't even have to bake…woo-hoo!
our dinner was the lasagna i put in the freezer two weeks before…craig's choice.
lauren was at a track meet so there were only the four kids.
we'd wrapped his present 2 weeks ago too…so no last minute wrapping…it was a volleyball net.

it was very relaxing.

in annie's card she put green rectangles of paper…money for dad.
scott ran to the gas station and bought 2 two liters of pop to give craig as a present.
so funny.

IMG_6575
daddies always need helpers…especially with that many candles.

IMG_6576
IMG_6579

after dinner, cake, and gifts we went out for some bean bag toss.
(annie calls it "beaning bag toss")
the weather was perfect.
the sunset was gorgeous.

IMG_6583

happy birthday to my favorite man.

carissa... brown eyed fox - awwwe… wishing him the best year yet!
happy belated!

Quoizel Chandeliers - Ah the joys of getting old.

Sarah - Iā€™m glad your hubby had a good birthday! Low key, low stress, always good!

JerriR - Happy Birthday to your hubby! Love reading your blog almost daily, makes me smile! Here in “Almost Heaven” WV we also call bean bag toss, “corn hole”. Who knows?? šŸ™‚ Its played at many a Mountaineer tailgate party!

traci - sounds like the perfect birthday. i love low key. happy birthday craig!!

Cate O'Malley - Laid back celebrations are the best, aren’t they? šŸ™‚

Christine - zwiebach…hmmmmm
lovely.

Staci - Happy Birthday Craig!! I’m glad it was a good, low stress day for you Meg!!

Debby Graber - Better be careful! When Darrell Conrade turned 40, we lit all 40 candles and they caught the cake on fire!! Seriously!
Happy Birthday, Craig!

sassafrasanne - happy birthday to YOUR favorite man from me too!
sounds like the perfect day!
šŸ™‚

Lori Danelle - That is awesome!!!! and I thought I had a lot of candles on my cake this year!
http://loridanelle.blogspot.com

Mrs. - In Ohio they have a similar game. It is called…corn hole. Seriously. EVERYONE has one, usually featuring the logo of their favorite team. First time I heard it (we are not from here but live here now) I had NO IDEA what people were talking about.
I especially love the photos of the cake. Gives a great impression of how wonderful the celebration must have been, the excitement over the candles and cake. Sigh. I wish y’all would throw my birthday party.

Tracy - Happy Birthday, Craig!

Anna - Happy Birthday Craig! Sounds like you all had a nice time.
God bless!!!
~Anna

Shannan - When I saw that first picture, and saw you in it, I wondered “Who took that fabulous shot?” Seriously – it’s perfect! You have obviously passed your artsy eye right down the line. And the two-liters of pop thing is a total crack up.

Lee Ann - Happy Birthday Craig!!!!
Love that Scott ran to the gas station to get 2 liters. I just love that you live somewhere where he can do that.

adrienneK - awe! happy birthday to your hubby!!!

gina - Happy Birthday Craig!
We love ice cream cakes!!
Looks like the perfect birthday.

a thorn among roses - awwww so cute! i love the candle lighting ceremony picture! cute!

Melanie - Wait till you start putting the numbers on the cake! This year ours was 41:) Yikes! When did that happen?

Jess - Happy Birthday to Craig! Looks like a yummy cake…

Rachel Reeves - I have always wondered what it would be like to have a sister I was close with. What a blessing….
