three things.

1.  i listened to an entire justin bieber song in the car today alone.
because i like it and my kids don't.
they are on the "justin bieber is lame" bandwagon.
     annie is on the fence.
she says yells "GUYS!  it's OKAY if you like justin bieber….it's OKAY! i don't but it's not bad if you do"

(she may have heard it many times from me…maybe….but it's true!  it IS ok)

     even if you are 35.
     it's just catchy.

2.   please enjoy this video that makes my heart nearly burst with so many feelings.
      so proud of her….
so sad to lose my baby officially….the last one to learn to read.
so happy that she can do this….
so proud to be her mom.

3.  yesterday i went antiquing with kimberlee.
     look what i found.

awesome green suitcase with fabulous wear and tear…..
IMG_0315-1

but wait….there's more.
inside it had ROLLER SKATES!
IMG_0323-2 IMG_0325-3

i lived in skates growing up.
i wore out our neighbor's driveway on my roller skates wearing my gray sweater with colorful stars.
i was going to win the grand champion roller skater….something i made up in my head….but i was going to win.

IMG_0328-4

they are even my size.

for reals!!!!!

i see some shoe lace pom poms and knee high socks in my future……

salt lake insurance - It’s not wrong to do the things that you want.

Sarah - Baby, baby, baby, OH.
I love that song.
I told my daughter I was going to be a Justin poster and put it in my room.
She said, “That is wrong on so many different levels.”

Dani - I found a pair of skates last summer at a yard sale. They were my sons size. I got them home and realized they fit me too! I skated all over our house and my kids loved it as much as I did!
ROLLER SKATING ROCKS! just saying.

Kim Barlow - Smiling…totally smiling…

Courtney - Obsessed with that green suitcase and those roller skates were a little sign from God! Small story about kismet, fate, whathaveyou…My husband rode a unicycle as a kid, he is 50 now and last week on the way home from a birthday party we saw a lady riding a unicycle. Odd, huh? We drove to the only bike shop in town, which was closed, but the owner was still there, he opened the door and sold my husband a 24″ unicycle…it was meant to be…gave me goosebumps when I watched him wobble down the drive on it the first time! God at work!

amy S - Love the vintage skates and suitcase! I was a skater girl growing up too! Loved Tootie on Facts of Life because all she did was skate. I wanted to go to that school so I could skate around the halls like she did. I feel your pain on your baby growing up. My 7th child and baby is about to be fully potty trained and I am sad about that! I know, weird but I can’t help it. No more going to the baby section at the stores to buy supplies. I have been going there since 1995.

cathy - I remember the days when the boys started to read in English they already read Hebrew but it was not the same I wish I had a video recorder then. Nice rollerblades good luck on the roller derby.

Jen - Loved hearing your lovely voice! It’s not what I imagined, but not sure what that actually was 🙂
Annie is just wonderful. Great book choice 🙂

Alicia - As a soon-to-be primary (elementary) school teacher (I graduate in June), I’m so glad to see you
1. Reading with Annie!
and
2. Not just giving her the word, but asking her “What rhymes with ____?”
That is the best way to teach your child to read! Making them think about the context of the words and the story- as opposed to jthe old “sound it out” philosophy.
You are such a good mum! This little video just warmed my heart! I think you should post more videos of your kiddos on here… so sweet.

krys - That is serendipity. Love the case, love the skates. Wonderful blog you have here. I am glad I stumbled and rumbled into it. Happy Weekend.

roller derby champion of 1989 - maybe when we get together to drink that wine you were talking about…we could hit the roller derby.
I’ve been known to wear some short shorts with my knee highs.

Terrie Galle - BriNg …briNg your skates…stupid new laptop small keyboard

Terrie Galle - Brig your skates on over to Hutch tomorrow! We are headed to the skating rink to celebrate my nephew’s 9th birthday! This will bring back some good old memories!!! 🙂

Holly - Brian just came home a couple of weeks ago with a book that he could read and he was so stinking proud! He is my baby. He does love Justin Beiber, but the other kids think he is just okay. Love going antiquing with a good friend!

Biz - Loved listening to Annie’s read!
So adorable.
I used the book Old Hat New Hat a Berenstain Bears book to teach my brother to read.
Rhyming books make it a little easier 😉
Biz

angela - Mentioned you on my blog post today.

Heather R. - Go, Annie, Go! I just flashed back on my skates. Blue pom poms bell in the middle of them. Rainbow on the side, with knee highs. So COOL!!! I love your find. 🙂

Ali - Bless her little reading self! It’s such a massive step – the beginning of the whole world opening up to her and she is doing so well.
My skates were blue and red and oh how much I loved them. I took my boys to the rink near my parents place and blew them away with my skills. Nice to know that even boring old Mum still has some surprises up her sleeve!

Lorie - How awesome! Don’t worry, I’m 36, and on the fence about Justin too. The kids at the elem. school where I work are all bout the Bieber Fever!
I’m meeting my best friend who lives 3 hours away at an antique mall this weekend. Maybe I’ll find my own roller skating suitcase too! My parents took my sister and I to a roller rink every Sunday after church. It was GREAT!

Jaimie - OOOOOOH, Love!!! I’m in love with the suitcase! What a perfect color! And what a score with the skates! You go!

Holly Cox - Those skates and that case are ABSOLUTELY awesome! Love it!

Lisa - Love that you were listening to Justin Bieber by yourself! And I LOVE old suitcases and I LOVED skating up into my adult years. Wish I still had my skates. Lost them at some point. I am also so close to my youngest of 4 being out of diapers. That one I am looking forward too! 🙂 Annie sounds so sweet reading. Love those moments!

Staci - I sooooooooooo wanted those pom pom thingies too!!!!!! Sweeeeeeeeeet Annie 😉

Suzanne - annie is the sweetest.

Jennifer O'Steen - that video is so cute! i love watching little kids learn how to read 🙂 i totally wish we had antique stores like yours around here.. a girl can dream

Rach - And you are going to be so awesome skating around your neighborhood!!!

Janie Fox - Dang girl, I will fight you for those skates and that case!

betsy - Listening to Annie read warms my heart. As a 4th grade teacher, I rarely get to see or hear this sounding-out-every-syllable-reading-and-then-being-confused-by-words-like-of-and-know.
She did SUCH a great job!
Tell her that I say,
she’s on her way,
keep reading every day,
and soon it will be May!

karen - Really nice video…couldn’t help but smile.
Annie sounds so grown up…i wouldn’t have thought! And this may sound weird…but i love your voice! We need to see more of you on a video. Craft Thursday Video Tutorial!!

Elizabeth - I bought a Justin bieber song on iTunes today. And I LOVE Annie! So proud of her!

Ashley - she is so precious! I love her little voice! Kind of bittersweet, huh? how cool that you videoed it! I am so doing that when my girl starts reading…sniff!

Kristin S - 1. You’ll treasure that video of Annie forever!
2. Love the toe shot.
3. Fun to hear your voice. For reals.
4. Video brought back memories of when I taught 2nd grade. The days the late bloomers learned to read were my absolute favorite.
5. You pushing her hair behind her ear is a total mom move. My mom still does it! “I want to see your face” she says.
6. A few weeks ago Bieber annoyed me. Now I’m a closet fan. Is that creepy?

Amy Lynne - Congrats on your new reader! That is such a special thing to learn to do in this life!

Kelly - Oh my! It was so fun to listen to Annie read and you talk to her. So sweet. I loved the way she looked around the page hoping to see “a-s-k” somewhere else on that page to remind her. Lovely! Kelly

Krista - It was so nice to hear your voices, they were totally different than the ones I hear in my head when I read your blog! Go Annie! She’s awesome!
I downloaded JB on my ipod… but I say it’s for my girls. Like you said, the tunes are catchy!

Jenny B. - Oh, how fun!!! Congrats to Annie on learning how to read! Oh, and you should check out Cathy Zielske’s blog. She was a champion figure roller skater back in the day. 🙂 Cathy Zielske: Glory Days

Heather - Oh yes, you have to have the pom-poms! This may be completely gross, but I still remember how the inside of my roller skate case smelled, like leather, paste and old socks. My skates had lavender wheels, the case was lavendar to match and there was always a tube of (nasty) grape-flavored lip gloss inside.

Jessica Johnson - sweet, little reading girl. and love the biebs. but it’s a secret, too.

Southern Gal - Actually it’s “I’ve GOT a brand new pair…”
That was bugging me when I read it back. Sorry.

Southern Gal - Oh, the pom-poms! I had a few different colors that my mom and I made for mine. I would change them out as my mood changed! Loved seeing your find. I’ll show my age and tell you I started out in the adjustable skates you wore over your shoes and had a key to change the size…you know, “I have a brand new pair of roller skates, you’ve got a brand new key.”

Sandy - I love listening to Annie read. I miss those days. “K – now”…words like that can drive a young reader crazy but she never got frustrated. Way to go, big girl!!

Alisa - I love how she looks around the page at the picture to figure the words out that she gets stumped on. My girls both did that (I’m sure it is universal) as they were learning to read. I am a third grade teacher, so watching this happen just warms my heart. Oh, and we have those same bed sheets…. just in case you wanted to know that.

Heather - Oh how I miss my skates. I rocked those skates and the pink fuzzy dice I had on them.

Keri ~ Forever Folding Laundry - Oh, that sweet girl sounding out her words. Love it!!
{and the green suitcase? SCORE.}

Shayne - Great job Annie! May your life be filled to the brim with books you love.
Love the roller skates—and the fact that they are your size is just perfect!

georgia - Meg if them skates are your size you totally need to take them for a test ride! Obviously don’t go hurting yourself, but go do it, it will be so much fun!!
I love the video of annie so cute! You have a really soothing voice 🙂
Have you thought of doing a video where we all ask questions, you pick the best ones and answer them by video? Would be fun 🙂 xx

crystal beutler - I am so jealous of that green suitcase and the SKATES!!!! Do you know how much I loved skating as a kid. I had the metal kind you attached to your shoe with a skate key. So cool, and yet so lame. They always fell off.
Let go to the roller rink next time we meet up. 🙂 Just kidding. I would probably kill myself.
Your little daughter melted my heart. So cute.

candace - As a kindergarten teacher, Annie totally trumped this post in my opinion. And I LOVE how she didn’t even flinch when you tucked her hair behind her ear. Good choice for independent reading too.

Kari - Very cute! Roller skates were a huge part of my childhood as well … the roller rink which had a forest scene in CARPET on one of the walls … like a giant latch hook rug. What a big day for Annie (and you!) Can I ask how you edit your videos? I have tried a few different methods but then I can’t upload them to blogger.
P.S. Is it weird that I was shocked when I heard your voice? All this time I was “hearing” your voice in my head, but then realized I’d never actually heard it until today. Oh blogland, how you tease me. 🙂

Tina - Oh Meg! Now I KNOW for sure that we were meant to be friends! Seriously….I was a “three times a week” at the rollerskating rink girl with my best friend Kathleen. We’d beg for rides there all the time and did all kinds of chores to earn money to go skating. Boy did we have fun. But I thought it was cool to purchase the boys black speed skates and so that’s what I sported all around Skateworld rink in Vandalia, OH. I purchased them used from another regular skater, and even though they were about 2 sizes too big I’d wear really thick socks. My husband and I both became roller bladers, but I still have those black speed skates tucked away in a box somewhere in my basement. I think I’ll go look for them! 🙂

sara's art house - LOVE the suitcase! Love the roller skates!!! I lived in roller skates too…we would go to my friend’s basement and skate for hours. Good memories!

Jill - I check your blog while I am at work. I have never commented before (besides telling you to host a craft weekend) 🙂 But I just have to tell you that I started watching the video of Annie and here I am crying. At work.
My first baby is only one year old. I’ve never taught a child to read, but I so look forward to reaching these milestones. Thank you so much for sharing!

Courtney Walsh - I listen to Laurie Berkner by myself in the car. Which one of us needs to be more embarrassed? lol
LOVE the roller skates!! How fun are those? And the suitcase is awesome. I’ve been thinking about cool suitcases…but I gotta say, I love that you didn’t go for brown and boring! The color is awesome!
PS. Annie = adorable.

Nichole - I love how when she’s reading, if there’s a word she can’t pronounce, she’ll look at the other words on the page to find something that looks similar! She’s so smart!

shauna reed - she is precious. her hair. her toes. her sounding out. your voices. you are a sweet momma.
a SWEET MOMMA with rollerskates in a green case…

Ali @ HuYoung Heaven - Love the color of that suitcase! And the roller skates are awesome. I never got into rollerblading, but roller skating….that I can do.

Mindy Harris - antiquing with a friend sounds like the perfect day. love those skates/suitcase. great color.

Jessica - Oh my goodness! The memories of skating in our basement & driveway! I forgot all about that! Thanks for the reminder!

jennifer - I may or may not listen to Justin while alone in the car. Just don’t tell my teenage sons. I’m pretty sure they would disown me.

Shann - Do you remember how to “Shoot The Duck?” Oh…what fun and wonderful memories. Thanks for taking me back today. 🙂

tara - i heard justin bieber for the first time this weekend at a college womens retreat…..they couldn’t believe that i hadn’t heard his music.
so, when the music came on, i said, “who’s this girl singing?” to which they replied, “GIRL!!!! IT’S JUSTIN BIEBER!!!!!”
it was catchy and i did like it…but what in the world will happen when his voice changes?
love the great find….lived in roller skates, too, growing up…..used to “slow skate” every saturday night at the toccoa skating rink. no joke. i think i feel a family night coming on……

Shannon - Please take a picture of yourself wearing these, it would be great 🙂

Sarah - Love listening to little ones learn to read! So exciting for your baby. Ps she’ll always be your baby (Im the youngest in my family and love it when my mom says I’m her baby)

Amy G - That is AWESOME thanks for the smile!!!

Pamela Gordon - Love the suitcase and the surprise roller skates inside! I roller skated as a kid on the really old fashioned kind that fastened on your shoes and had a key to adjust them! I rolled along the paved sidewalks on them. We live in a rural area and in the 70’s there was a roller rink down the road that used to be a pig barn. They rented the ‘modern’ ones as in your pictures. It was a lot of fun! And guess what?? Justin Beiber is Canadian like me. 😀 I don’t listen to him but his songs are catchy tunes. Have a great weekend!

Laura Phelps - and I anxiously await the video of YOU roller skating!

sarah - i’m imagining you hopping onto a train for an adventure, your stylish, vintage suitcase tossed casually over your shoulder. darling.

Courtney Henson - Love your roller skates! I once found old ice skates in an old case with socks! I fondly remember roller skating in circles around my garage as a kid! And going to the roller skating rink for parties and even for school field trips. They always had the most awesome sticker machines there….good to fill your sticker books up with!

Leah - Okay, first of all, LOVE the suitcase and rollerskates. What a find! Second, congrats on such a milestone with Annie! I know how I feel when I see Sophie learn something brand new that I take for granted that I already know. What an exciting moment for you! And third (going with your blog title today), we recently made birdhouses with kids. Here is the post if you need a Craft Thursday idea: http://leahsthoughts.com/2011/03/03/lets-make-a-birdhouse/

Hannah - awesome find!! the old roller skates like that TRUMP roller blades….can you skate backwards??? love love love the color of that suitcase! 🙂

Erica - Ok, I think you are the coolest. Reading your blog and seeing all of the COLOR that you post about makes me so happy. Today I thought I’d leave a message because as I was flipping through my Pottery Barn Kids catalog I saw this room and thought, Pottery Barn has been getting inspiration from Meg’s Blog! Just look: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/room/rom/romply/romplycga/ In their catalog it looks even more like you with a globe on top of the bookshelf and it shows more of the room.

Erin Ward - I can’t believe the skates were your size and everything! Crazy! I totally love the case.
And don’t feel bad. I’ve been known to enjoy a JB song now and again. 🙂

Kimberlee J. - Let’s rent out the roller rink…maybe Amy knows someone. 🙂

Tam - Annie reading is adorable! oh I miss my boys reading like that. My youngest loves Justin Beiber, it’s music I can car dance to, too. Amazing find with the skates and green suitcase. I’m antique’ing/thrifting tomorrow…I hope to find good stuff!

happygirl - Oh BOY!!! The saddest day in my town was when they closed the roller rink. And I remember taking roller skating lessons when I was in 3rd grade. My mom made me wear a dress. It buttoned all the way up the front. I fell. ALL the buttons came undone. Humiliated. Seriously. Still feel the shame. Ha ha. Btw, rent the movie Whip It. Quite entertaining.

Amber - lil bit obsessed w/green (that exact shade!) and that suitcase is AWESOME!

cathieb - where’s the love button for this?
:o)
so awesome – can’t what to see you in action ;o)

Michelle - MEG! You seriously have to post a video of the roller skating action. I’m guessing you’ve still got it in you to be the grand champion roller skater. No doubt. And you could skate to Justin Bieber. Just throwing it out there.

Heidi - My dad just recently found his mom’s old skates in a VERY vintage old suitcase and gave them to my daughter (who is 9) and they FIT! I remember wearing those exact same skates when I was younger (not 9!). Love the fact that they have been passed along and will continue their journey. 🙂 They look just like the ones in your picture, except I think their wheels are orange.
Annie is a doll. We have a split household on Justin too- but I do notice everyone singing along in the car. 😉

Maeva - Annie sounds so grown up!

julia - Dear M. Please join my roller derby team. No pushing is allowed. Yours. J.

sara @ it's good to be queen - annie is so adorable!!

Carrie - Please let us see a video of you roller skating.
We had a roller rink near us that all of the kids would go to on Friday nights. It was called Starlite Triple T (funny) and I think I spent every Friday night from 5th through 8th grade there. It was so much fun. Now, at 34, I am pretty sure I would be terrified to roller skate.
PS – It’s totally ok to like Justin Beiber.

God is so awesome.

my mind feels full of creativity.
my heart feels full of love and friendship.
my body feels too full of cinnamon rolls and cheesecake.

the retirement center has been missing me.

my house has never been this cold.
i am bundled up in a blanket with many layers and hot coffee and i am still frozen.

T.McClelland - Hi! I came across this by accident, and I am so glad I did! My friends and I have started to do craft weekends together; we have a great time! Don’t know how much crafting we actually get done……we stay in our PJ’s…sometimes put on a chick flick…eat chocolate….we take turns going to each other’s houses. It’s a nice, fun, relaxing, full of laughter good times.

Ali - I second the request on a “how to” for making a banner! I love those banner’s! They would be adorable for my daughter’s birthday!

Michelle - It looks like all of you had a fabulous time. You are all so lucky to have one another. Thank you for sharing your great time and providing links to your projects.

aubrey - I love your bunting hanging across the room. I love love love bunting, but I s-u-c-k at making it. Something goes missing between the picture in my brain and what my hands end up creating. How did you make yours?

Amanda - OH Man! I see at least five of my favorite bloggers in the same room being crafty! I have gained so much from you and looked forward to all the inspiration from your creativity!!!

Wendy - That sounds awesome. I can’t imagine a day of hanging with friends & crafting, much less a weekend! I miss having friends that live in the same town as me 🙁

Jessica @ These Are The Days - Well I was going to guess and say “if it were me I’d have gotten the globe”, but in one of those last pictures I saw the globes so I’m pretty sure I was right.
Love the necklace you gave Edie…I was coveting it the whole weekend at Blissdom. If you would tell me where I can snag one, I’d be over the moon. 🙂 Thanks, Jessica

Diane @ InMyOwnStyle - This is the best idea for bloggers to get together – so much better than a big conference. Reading through your post was so enjoyable. I love the globe you got – wish I lived closer to go to that antique store.

Bonita - I’m not even crafty and I don’t know any of you (came over from Nester’s blog), but the fellowship looked like so much fun that all the way through the post I kept thinking, “I wanna go.” So glad you had such a fun time!

Amanda @ Serenity Now - I’m visiting from The Nester’s and I had to tell you what a dream this looks like! 🙂 It’s hard enough to get my local girlfriends together to do anything, so I can’t imagine the planning that went into this. What a fabulous time you all must have had. 🙂

Sarah @ a drop of golden sun - Wow, what an amazing bunch of women, and amazing talents! Tonight is our first of what we hope to be many more, “craft club”! I am hosting at my house, but I don’t think it will be anything nearly as spectacular as your whole weekend was! Something to strive for I suppose. Thank you for sharing!

Jenn - That looks like such a dream! Thanks for giving me a little glimpse into a heavenly weekend-love the crafty ideas, too!

Cherished Hearts Vintage - Gorgeous pics! Any chance of a tutorial to show us how to make the ruffle necklaces?

HMama - I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this. *sigh*

nancy in ks - Bearly Makin’ it! I see Oggie in the orange sweatshirt. One of my favorite places! It looks like he took you out to his barn too. That’s a treasure land for sure.
This is the first time I’ve read your blog. So thanks to Ashley Ann I have another great stop in the morning before I start my day. Pretty soon, I won’t have any day left. Just blogs.

Tara - so much fun.
this is SO on my list of 40 things I wanna do before I turn 40…I’ve got 2 1/2 years left to make it happen!
you are my inspiration.

jaz - Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxox

Talysa - I love the whole thing….what a great idea! But I left half of my brain with that first picture and those pennants….love.
Then you lost the second half of it on the hoop art.
I did manage to catch up when we hit the frosting though. 😉
Ps. You totally got the globe. 😉

Krystle - I’m new to your blog my m’dear… you are fabulous! I first found you because your house was adorable and I fell in love with your kitchen. I now love you all the more because I see that you’re using the gift of your home to share with others for fantastic retreats and fellowship like this! I’m so glad to have “met” you!

Mindy - What a fabulous weekend! Now I want the weather to get better so I can go on a road trip and check out the antique store!

Danielle - What a kind and gracious heart you have. I can’t even begin to tell you the smiles I got at seeing you gals have so much fun. I follow Amy Jupin’s blog and Jess Mac’s as well and am so happy that these two special women got to have some girl time. Your blog always puts a smile on my face:)

Kristin S - Meg, what a dreamy weekend. Your husband is a trooper! I bet he knew you NEEDED that girl time.
Your perspective at the end is shaping a seminar I’m doing at a women’s conference this coming weekend for women who work for our ministry. I am SO NOT an expert but just want to share from my heart about how it has ministered to me and others.
Most want how-to’s which is fine. I can do that. Sort of (I still don’t know how the heck to change my header). But I’d rather give big picture.
Thank you!

Sandee - Ok. This looks like the best weekend ever! Every time I get the chance to see pic.s of your house I’m in heaven… loved the one of the globe mixed in with other things at the antique store where you asked which thing you’d buy out of all those things. You got me started on wanting a collection of old globes and I just found my very first one on Monday!!! I’m so excited and can’t wait to find more.. 🙂

Sara - There is nothing better than a house full of friends with food, fun and crafts. How kind of you to open your house….I wondered what the major cleaning was about! Does anyone else think that Cindy looks like the brand new wife on Sister Wives? She is a doll…and I just put my thumb on why I thought I knew her. Funny! I obviously watch too much TV.

Charity - I’m in love with the hanging banner and lights. Could you PLEASE post instructions on how to make the banner and the dimensions of the triangles? I would love to make one!!!

Tammy Sabourin - So what you’re really saying is that this weekend was BEAST. 😉

Tracy - Wow! looks like such a wonderful time and how sweet of you to host it. I have to admit…I am a bit jealous as I imagine all the crafty fun and girl talk that was oozing through your walls all weekend (plus I really want to meet waffle, I am in love with him!)
If you ever want more friends…I would love to visit Kansas…I just claim waffle as my roommate! ; )

Esther Noordman - Looking good!! I was wondering, what exactly do you mean by ‘cleaning partner’? (sounds like something/one I could be/use..;).

Jen@thecottagenest - I love that you did this Meg. What a way to express love for your friends! I love what everyone created too. I especially love those hoops and that swirly graphic fabric! Where is that from? I’d love to play with that!

amy jupin - i love each and every one of these pics.
especially the one of cole’s reflection. genius.
miss you, sweet friend.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - That looks completely awesome and I am now really jealous! You are blessed.

Marie - How awesome! I am going to confess being a little jealous of your fabulous weekend. I have no crafty friends here and a weekend like that sounds like a dream come true. I should just be bold and plan something like that and see what happens. Pretty amazing of you to open up your home like that. 🙂

Kelly - The bunting and big round lights are fantastic and it looks like y’all had a wonderful time. I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s embroidery hoop art together. A bunch of neat ideas! Kelly

Jeanne - It looks so amazing! I am sad that I had to miss it but I hope you invite me again next time:-) I love all the bunting in the “craft room” 🙂

Nicole - HI! I found your blog through Julie’s blog. :0) Okay, I have to ask. I am a Kansas blogger/crafter. What antique shops did you go to? May I ask what town too?!!!
How fun of a weekend. How do you guys know one another? It would be fun to get together like that. :0)Kansas should have a blog meet-up.
Thank you,
Nicole
“Cole”

Carol S. - Oh my, what a fun bunch and awesome agenda. Your hair is really cute dark. Really clever way to spend a weekend, and yes, your husband (and inlaws) are amazing for their coordinated getaway as well. mary beth - Oh my gosh, I’ve been in that store! I was tired after the Hillsboro fair, so I was pretty overwhelmed by it, but can’t wait to get back there! What a wonderful idea for a weekend! We are in the middle of a Kansas blizzard right now, but I’m scheming in my mind for some good cabin fever crafting here all by myself! Great job Meg…stay warm with you memories of a great weekend!

shauna reed - what a hostess you are Meg.
that looks lovely.
what a dream come true to have nice clean people take over your house.

Smiling
-Lucy

Beth - what a FABULOUS weekend!! makes me want fabric stores and antique stores and craft stores close to me!! thanks for sharing.

jennie - meg…totally random and not related to craft weekend (which looks fabulous) at all. but my pandora station just played “what is” by anna vandas, which you must listen to if you haven’t. the last verse of the song is, “What is good, what is pure, what is right? What is love, what is truth, what is holy in your sight?” Of course, it made me think of you. 🙂

mel - ahhhh!!!!! So FUN!!!!!!
Look at all those fun crafts you made!!
LOVE those necklaces!!!
Yay for Blog Friends & blog friend weekends!
What a blessing, indeed!
p.s. next time you need to invite someone who can teach you photoshop, since that is on your 35 before 35 list 😉

Kristin Hayne - What an awesome time!! So jealous…. that needs to happen in my life more often…. and was it a pre requisite to have blue eyes? LOL

kasey - I am so sorry i couldn’t make it…
you know…with the snow and all..i was just afraid of driving.
But you know how MUCH i love to craft…so i am really sorry that i wasn’t there to help you all hot glue buttons.
Next time for sure…and i’ll make the drive.
pinky promise.
I’ll even pick Laura up on my way…or maybe she could pick me up.

amber - aw, this is awesome Meg. I would love to do something like that someday. Blogging is great and the inspiration I get from you and other women/moms/crafters is so much fun. I am thankful for you sharing a glimpse into your life with all of us. I am so going to take a day trip to that antique store, I am seriously drooling over it! Thanks for sharing your weekend pictures. I am inspired as always.

Laura Phelps - I’M CRYING
seriously CRYING
but I am a DORK Meg..because I am looking at the pictures, wishing I had made the trip, but thinking at the same time how UNQUALIFIED I would have felt around these talented beautiful women!
I think I would have felt ugly and useless!!! HA
I need to find something I am good at before I walk into a room full of these ladies!
ugh, insecurity sucks
I LOVE the pics
I LOVE that God brought you all together
it looks PERFECT
you are awesome for doing this
God really is speaking through you
amazing
still crying…

Jen H. - Looks like a complete and utter blast! So many people have good intentions of meeting up and getting together, but it is great that you and these women actually MADE IT HAPPEN! Good job! 🙂

sue - World Globe.

sarah @ Perpetual Blind Date - You literally grouped all of my FAVORITE bloggers into one large crafting weekend. How fun?!

sara's art house - LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my dear! I wish I could have come!!!! :):) LOVE the hoop art.

Sixty- Fifth Avenue - oh my goodness, what fun!! your beautiful home was the perfect place to have a retreat. we are getting snowed in as i type under my warm blanket.
Londen
xx

Emily Zimmerman - Oh your post is making me tear up!! Seeing the picture of Jess and Julie together!! Oh boy makes me cry!! Makes me cry because of their loss, but tears of joy that they have met each other. Wow! Love all the pics and all the crafts!! So I have an idea…next year when you host your weekend (no pressure 🙂 or anything) what about having a contest where the winner gets to join your big weekend???!!! Or I’m pretty sure you could auction off tickets to the big event and make lots of money! Sign me up!!

Dina - LOOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE this post:-) I wanna do this with my gf’s. And thank you thank you thank you for sharing Marion:-) My bff and I went to Hillsboro in Sept.(craft fair)… we drove and drove and drove looking for barn sales — you had blogged the previous year about them…Marion, right? Can’t wait to take her:-) You’re the best!

Heather - ahhh that looks like an amazing weekend!!! One of my life goals is to have fellowship like that (with great women, great stuff to do, yummy non-diet treats, maybe a little book club action?) at least once a year or so. It has been lacking in my life since college and moving away from home, many years ago. Camaraderie without competition, that’s what I want. Meg, you always inspire me so much! And if I ever get the guts to show the world my blog, maybe that will be the vehicle God uses.

wendy, NJ - Wow! I am so jealous! I love that you were able to host such a wonderful weekend full of friendship and making memories!
Big hugs to you!

Jen - What fun! I am as crafty as a “big rock”. What I want most from you crafting weekend is Kimberlee’s HAIR!! Sigh…………..

Donna - I want to do this so badly!!! I wish I had a big enough house and a MIL that lives close so I could send my kids there.
You gals are awesome! I love all the craft projects. I’m going to have to make on of those necklaces and the embroidery hoop project. Love it all!
Thanks for sharing!!

se7en - I was going to say that photo looks lovely but then that other photo looked lovely too and so on and on… I t all looked so divine!!! The crafting, the outing, the awesome shop, the scrumshish food… the friends … totally love it all…. And if you didn’t buy that globe then I am sailing the se7en seas to come and get it for myself!!! Love it!!!

Becky - I’m not crafty but I love your crafts! They are the kind I would make or buy. I despise so many of the crafts (crap) out there. You have the most fun style, love it!

Amber - SO much fun!!! I would love to be a part of a fun craft weekend like this! It seems like all the friends that God has places in my life lately are from blog land and far away!

Heather - Hey Meg! I totally get hives even thinking about crafting like that! I have no creative abilities at all. None. BUT – next time you host a weekend, give me a buzz. I’m a great cook and I’ll come down and cook and do all the clean up for the ladies, just to be there. 🙂 I’m in Topeka – it’s doable! Ha!

Terrie - Isn’t it great to have a WonDerFul reason to clean your house?! Was wondering why you were so into spring cleaning in January! Thanks for all the Fab ideas!! I just got my sewing machine back yesterday…it’s been in the shop for 3 months! Not sure what I will work on first…ruffled pillows, the bunting I want to make for my craft room…or that quilt laying over the back of my chair since November waiting to be finished! So jealous…(I know one of the sins right…thou shalt not covet) of your women friendships! I’ve only had one dear friend who likes to craft…and having moved from her all the rest, missing that part of my life. You are Blessed Megan! Thanks for sharing with us!

Dawn Eshnaur - My friend and I both have ties to Newton and would LOVE to come to a craft weekend with you! My son dates a girl from Newton and my friend grew up there! We read yours and Ashley Ann’s blog….looks like too much fun! It’s funny….people make fun of us because we call our blogs friends “Our friends from Kansas” 🙂 Enjoy the snow!!!

Renae - Dang! I was in Kansas this weekend (okay, Missouri and some Kansas) and didn’t know this fab party was rockin’! 🙂 Oh well, looks like you girls had a fantastic time!! Meg, i’d love to know where you got your drinking glasses, with the dots on them. LOVE those. Thanks for sharing!!

Megan - You’ve shared so much. Can I ask for more? How about the tiramisu recipe?? Pretty please?

anne c - holy craziness! how fun! I need friends to do this with! what lucky women you all are to have each other and to experience such a great weekend crafting. I probably would have peed my pants to meet you and ashley…in fact I know I would have! thanks for sharing!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - That is so fantastic! The hoops are PRECIOUS!

Tracey @7294cottageway.blogspot - How do I send my resume for that fun? I can cook, craft, clean..and I know a few really great jokes…so glad you had fun. LOVE that ruffle pillow!

debbie - I love everything about this! The crafts, the camaraderie and the food! I agree…you are indeed blessed!

Michele - Loved this post! How generous of you to open your home and your heart to all of these creative women. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa - This is what I call Utopia. Seriously, I am so inspired. I have dreamed of doing something like this but have thought, “My house is small. Who would want to cram into it for the weekend? On top of people they don’t really know.” What a lame excuse. This is the year. Maybe just a few friends, but I’m making it happen! Thanks so much for sharing! (I love that antique store too. My “girls” and I went Hillsboro weekend and I’ve been dreaming of it since!)

Jodi - I know it’s wrong to be jealous… but I am SO jealous!! I don’t know very many women here w/ the same love of crafting as I have. You are SO very blessed!!! :o)

sara @ it's good to be queen - oh my word, that looks like my idea of a good time. that antique store looks rad. I’m going to have to go there next time we’re in kS. seriously, that was such a great idea to do in the middle of winter. something fun to look forward to. I would love to do something similar. How did you decide who to invite? I think that would be the hardest part for me…not hurting some people’s feelings. also, LOVE the lamps down the middle of the table. so cool.

kat - Oh my gosh!!! So wish I could have been there too! What a super fun weekend!

Janie Fox - Looks like so much fun. I am new to blogging but there are some great hearts out there I have met by reading and now writing.
We are iced in here in central IL. Power was off for a bit but it is back on in time for me to read some fav blogs! 🙂

Beth @ odd girl out... - looks like you girls had a GREAT time! i miss KS so much, especially after a post like this, i went to school in lawrence!

mandy madison - Looks like a fabulous time had by all! Now you got me in the crafting mood 🙂 thanks for sharing!!

Amanda-ThriceBlessed - Looks like such a fun weekend!

Jill - So that’s why you were cleaning like a maniac last week! 🙂
Looks like soooo much fun! (the crafting that is, not the cleaning!)

Trish - FUN!

sarah - Looks like lots of fun 🙂

colleen - Okay, so which one of those girls is from Alabama? I live in Alabama and don’t know many other girls who are as obsessed with crafting as i tend to be! Have toyed with starting a blog and would love to know of another alabama girl i could learn from! Looks like you girls had your souls nourished! Something that for me usually comes from time with other likeminded women! Glad it was so much fun! Well worth all that cleaning!

Shayne - You have an amazing, dedicated husband! So sweet of him to take the kids, esp. when they weren’t feeling well. Hope they’re better now.
Glad you were able to create fun girl time for yourself. Girl time is special. 🙂

Ariel - How come Julie gets the amazing hair AND insanely long eyelashes??? Looks like so much fun…I need to make one of those necklaces, fast!

Kori - I wanna come play in Kansas too!! 🙂
My husband wanted me to keep lights up after Christmas and I didn’t have any ideas that didn’t resemble a frat house…lights on the walls, etc., but I am in total LOVE with the way you strung those big daddy globe lights above your table! Like dining al fresco but not. I think I’m gonna do that.
And add me to the list of chicks who have sewing machines who have never taken them out of the box and/or tried to thread them. I did take mine out of the box only to be scared by it and put it back. 🙁 I need to get over that ‘cuz I need some bright colors here in the cold of Spokane and don’t want to have to go hunting for the perfect thing when I *think* I can make it. Maybe.
Glad you had such a great time and hope Craig is better….

Suzy - I love the flowers. Does Julie offer a tutorial on how to make the pretty messy flower or does she just make them to sell? Thanks! Looks like it was a blast- good idea!!

tammy hebert - Looks like you had a great time. And all that crafting- I am jealous. Thanks for sharing..
tammy

Penny - Thank you so much for sharing photos of your time together. I am having a bunch of friends over to craft. Just for the day. But I love your ideas. I will borrow some and my friends will be impressed! Thanks. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. And they got to love on Waffle, lucky them!

rhonda - Just seeing all yall have fun together is GREAT! (I love it when women are shown as loving and supporting and real!!) So glad yall did this!

Beinghappygirl.blogspot.com - This looks like SO MUCH FUN. and thanks for the pictures. I have GOT to add pics to my blog. The crafting is WAY over my head.

Kari - Sounds like an amazing, fun time! I wish I had a bunch of fun gals to teach me to use a sewing machine. I’m ashamed to admit I bought a new machine about 4 years ago and have never taken it out of the box. I’m a chicken, LOL! Love your projects, especially the hoops. So cute!

Rachel - What amazing FUN! I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous. I’d love to host a gathering like that. I love that you just jumped in and made it happen. You’ve got me thinking…a dangerous thing indeed haha.

pam - How fun! My parents gave our 21 year old her great grandmother’s 1949 Singer….it has attachments that do things I’ve never heard of….I am VERY JEALOUS. It has a ruffler…..that you would be in awe of….does all the work and REALLY FAST.

Kristin - How awesome! It looks like you had a blast with an amazing bunch of women. 🙂

Susan - I wanna be one of your friends that you invite over! Seriously…I think if I knew you, you could make me a better Mom and person! It looks like you had so much fun! So, if you are looking to do another weekend and need a lonely mom of 6 kids 8 and under and would like to give her a reason to get away for a weekend, COUNT ME IN! I would be in my minivan so fast! You are truly blessed to have a great “family” of friends to surround you!

Courtney Walsh - Looks like a ton of fun, Meg! I am seriously thinking about doing something like this…too many people online that I’d love to meet and no guarantee that’ll ever happen!! Gotta take matters into your own hands sometimes! 🙂
I really want to learn to embroider…I am clueless, but I always love the way it looks!

amber - SO fun. Thanks for sharing, especially all the crafty fun. I’m loving the ruffle pillow too…

Heather R. - Thanks for the heads up on the shopping in Kansas. We’re in the blizzard fun, too. I don’t think the kids have gone to school in like forever. I bet you guys had a great time. Love all the crafts!!! 🙂

Peggy in TN - How much fun. New friends, old friends, far away friends. Blogging makes this big world so much smaller. Nice to see.

Courtney - looks like you all had an awesome time!
i am so going to that antique shop sometime it looks awesome! its only a 3 hour drive, i am sure i can convince my husband :)!

Sara Deason - Hello, My name is Sara and I stumbled across your blog a few months back. Now I look forward to reading it every day! I absolutely love your photos and wished I lived in Kansas so that you could take some for me. Your creativity is inspiring and I finally just decided to introduce myself and let you know how much I enjoy your blog. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Alyssa - Meg
I have no idea how you do it…..I only have the 3 kids and I never seem to get it all together………Share again how do you do it?
Love it all like always….
Canno wait to see what you make!

Anna Marie - Love all of those pictures! Megan, do you have a flickr account?

Mrs. - Ah Meg, I wish I could say the same thing about things in my house. I should blog about what I have…no tree, painting ladder out (I forgot to take my crazy pill and thought it would be a good idea to paint before the holidays. it isn’t). Presents stacked on the fireplace instead of under the tree. Jars of homemade hot fudge to be delivered all over the counters, desk and kitchen table covered in 1/2 started holiday crafts, and I am working full-time but with a stay at home mindset. However crazy it is at your house, trust me, I’d love to be there today enjoying the holiday spirit there!

ginuhphurr - love the pics! i feel so creepy for being so loyal to your blog, but i just can’t resist your amazing pictures and stories!!!
🙂
come check out my new blog!

Your package didn’t make it when I was down there, but Julie says she has something to send me 🙂

jody - loving the vintage ornaments and silver tree. i got a silver tree this year for our dining room. not vintage, but with vintage ornies, it looks it.
your collection is delectable.

sandy toe

Kate - MMMM!!! So lovely and beautiful!

adrienneK - your house is always a winter wonderland

aubrey - Your house looks so pretty and sparkly and festive. I can’t wait to see how your craft week turns out. I wish I had the patience to do something like that with my kids–maybe when they’re older and less inclined to paint each other while I’m nursing the baby. This didn’t really happen–I’m just imagining the worst. 🙂
And your lockers look awesome. You spray painted thsoe right? I can’t imagine painting something like that by hand. They turned out really cool. I wish we had barn sales around here. I guess I still need to check out Star Mill.

Cori - I am so addicted to your boxes of glass ornaments. I can’t seem to find much in the thrift and antique stores I’ve been parusing lately. C’mon NY I know you have glass balls! Where are you?

sherry - oh my. Love it. All of your pictures. all of your posts. all of your ideas. love them. thanks.

Lorilee Peterson - You’re amazing. I love the colors in your house. They are happy!

Lisa - Gorgeous! Unbelievable. Breathtaking. Love it all!

your cool friend Cheryl - Oh, how I adore your pretty pics! Gorgeous!

Mickie Lara - O.K., I’m going to say it… I believe your blog has now taken over PW’s as my absolute favorite to check everyday. There is just a feeling of warmth that comes from every one of your photos and posts. And, although I know I won’t get to it everyday, you definitely inspired me to do some Christmas activity with my son as often as I can this season. Can’t wait to see what you all do. Someday you’ll have to raffle off a chance to come and join you for an afternoon so he could see how a truly crafty mom would do it…!

Patti - i cannot wait until my kids are old enough that i can decorate like this with “stuff” in “things” – my kids (well, mostly the 2 year old) would have a hay day taking it all apart. your decorations are inspiring and so beautiful! total eye candy – thanks for sharing!! 🙂

susie whyte - for the love of mercury ornaments…SIGH.
that was the most beautiful version of cruel and unusual punishment ever. i just found some pink mercury’s to adorn my PW gifts. so excited.
congrats to scott!!!

Tara Carmichael - I actually managed to make gingerbread with my four year old today and I thought of you and your craft week. Can’t wait to see what you’ll be up to. Always an inspiration…
~Tara

i have the holiday spirit now, thanks to you. i still have an almost naked tree (only ornaments on there are the new gifted ones from this year. i fully expect some audience participation. ahem. do i have to beg? (apparently) i too love the little framed deal with the tiny clothes pins.
yum!!

Heather - Your pictures make me happy.
Thanks!!

Carrie - so so pretty!

julia - oh my gosh…I know you don’t need all of those fab vintage ornaments..are you sure you wanted to decorate for Christmas…it’s such a bother…do you need my address???

sarah - Everything is so pretty!
Look forward to seeing your craft week 🙂

Leadia Jarvis - I’ve never commented before but I have to tell you that I check your blog daily for a lift. It’s always so bright and cheerful – a real sunny spot! Beautiful holiday photos – I love the framed holiday words on clips. Clever!

Georgia - I want to come live in your house for christmas… crafting, vintage decorations, and yummy cookies!!! your like Super mum! lol

christmas finds

about two weeks ago i scored big at the thrift shop.
it was so fun to find my favorite things…for about half the price!

C2
 C4
vintage ornaments…with the boxes.
a santa.
a vintage christmas dish towel.
old silver garland.

C3
C1
antique ornaments with sweet little details.
and my santa mugs…for 50cents each!
they are always over $4.
and there were 6 of them….oh happiness.

C6
C5
inside that little clear bell is a tiny plastic deer…with snow….sweet.

having gotten a cold (that i think is nearly gone) and leaving town for thanksgiving
AND having started a new business this year….
christmas is feeling a little less fancy this year.
but i hope that changes.

i am getting so close to finishing up with my picture editing.
that is so exciting to me.
because when i am done…i can make christmas crafts…and a gingerbread house…and wrap presents
and make cookies…and put glitter on stuff.
almost there.

Shirley - That is the exact Santa mug I had as a kid…and I still have it. He used to have a little green “emerald” for his eye!

Christina - That Santa looks exactly like one I just saw on another blog tonight. Weird. It was All a Flutter.

jeanne - The ornaments are so fun!!! You got amazing prices!! I will close my shop on December 13 so I can really enjoy the rest of the month. We have some fun things planned and good friends we are getting together with.

mel - Your thrift store is AWESOME!!!! Love the vintage ornaments & the santa mugs. so fun!

robin bird - now that is a score to envy! my vintage decorating friends would drool over these and be very impressed with your keen eye for the best deal!
p.s. i am still getting many, many hits a day from your link to my blog. it really is fun to be so popular 😉 thanks sweetie xo

Laura Phelps - we had the SAME MUG…we filled it with milk and left it for Santa. I want to cry…you just brought me back many, many years…will have to show this to my sisters!

Jemm - These are so freaking cool! Lucky find.

Stephanie Howell - i have the santa mugs too! got a full set at the fort hood thrift shop last year. 😉

Sarah @ Clover Lane - you find the best things! no fair!

tami reed - I love vintage things so fun, i heart thrift stores!

aubrey - I so want to go to the thrift store now–even though ours isn’t as good because it gets picked over.
Can’twait to see all the fun crafts you make–I still vivdly remember last year’s because I was so impressed (and immediately wished I was way better at getting crafts done). How do you get so much done with five kids? I guess it helps when none are nursing babies or toddlers. 🙂

jenn - LUUUUUUUUV the mugs! We drank egg nog from some just like that every Christmas Eve with my grandmother! So fun!

jennifer - I have that same little santa ornament with the sequin? pants! There is a matching Mrs. santa as well!

Melanie - The ornaments are so cute. You did score with that shopping trip. I am not even putting up Christmas decorations since we just moved in our house 3 weeks ago. Moving 800 miles from your home will make you a scrooge:) My husband said I was exempt this year:) WOO HOO!

Elizabeth McDonald - My mom has hundreds of those “vintage” ornaments..!! all with the boxes!! except to her they aren’t “vintage”..they are just well loved!

Cori - I love the Santa Mugs!! My grandmom had them also. Such a warm and fuzzy feeling every time I see them.

Kristy - love, love, love all your finds!!!! specially the ornaments :O)

Romantic bed and breakfasts - It is an occasion of joy, pleasure and happiness. It is an occasion of spreading smile and cheer on everyone face. The fall and discounted prices are the symbol of spreading satisfaction and relieve to the customers to join and celebrate the happiness together.

susie whyte - …and then you went and changed your header. gasp.
just. a. little. more. Christmas. to. your. page. 🙂
ha ha.

susie whyte - you are a magnet for good finds. i think you have an inside source. somebody calls you when that stuff comes in, huh? you can tell the truth. i CAN handle it. wish i had that inside tip…though i am thoroughly enjoying my $2 chair from there. ha ha.
did you put the stuff in the paper sacks there or just in a cart?? i think things come up cheaper without using the sack. there are some swindlers at the thrift store, that’s for sure. 🙂
i NEED you to hurry up with the photo editing. i watched ELF yesterday and i am still not in the Christmas mood. i think the only thing that will help is if you get after posting all of the wonderful Christmas decor photos that i know you are aching to post. the ones up above are a great start. i tried looking at last year’s, but it’s just not the same. come on meg. get after it. you are depriving us of Christmas spirit. all of mankind is depending on YOU!!!no pressure. 🙂

jenjen - That is so cute! You find the best treasures! I hope you are having a good week!

Heather - That tiny deer bell is so great! And those Shiny Bright ornaments…I loooove the colors. I love a good thrifting trip!!

jennifer - You totally scored!
Love the mugs!
Our house is definitely less fancy this year. We’re packing to move, so the thought of unpacking all the Christmas decorations is just too overwhelming for me. Very strange. I’ve never not decorated before…

Becca Parker - I’m soooo jealous, my mom has a box of beautiful old ornaments that I just know I could accidently pack in my suitcase.

Cate O'Malley - awesome finds! would love to find vintage ornaments, but no dice here, unfortunately; lack of good thrift stores doesn’t help, so in the meantime, I can live vicariously through you. 🙂

Penny - Great finds, lucky you! Many remind me of ones my mom had from her mother. So many are gone now. I think I am going to ask my mom for my favorite, an angel. I would love to see it on my tree. Your post makes me want to run out and find some Santa mugs. How cool!!

Joni - GARSH…what a HAUL! Oh. To find Shiny Brites IN THEIR BOXES! Wowsers…you are one lucky thrifter…Santas are all cute, too, what fun!
XOXO
Joni

adrienne - the bell is precious

The Countess of Nassau County - The Santa mugs!!! I want them!!! I grew up with them, my Mom still has them.
Point blank, how much you want for ’em!!!

No.17CherryTreeLane - jealous.

diane reeves - I love the Shiny Brite ornaments! What a great score.

Jocelyn Stott - Wow – GREAT finds! Nice work!!! When I was young, my Mom would always take me with her and her friends to go thrift shopping and I haaaaaaated it. However, life likes to remind us of such behavior when it makes us exactly like them! I LOVE checking out thrift shops now and have had some great finds.

Allison - I’m with you….so much has happened to me this year (some huge life-changing things) that i am trying to muster up some Christmas spirit for my two little boys. Your photos of those awesome vintage ornaments have sparked a little Christmas spirit in me. I loooooove the glass balls with the stars on them. I’m heading to the antique mall to find some cool ornaments tomorrow. Thanks for inspiring me. You always do!

Christy Henderson - Awesome finds!! Love the vintage santas !!

amy - you lucky girl.
but i’m a little perplexed…i think i wear my eyeliner just like santa (on the mugs)!! oh no!

your cool friend Cheryl - I big pink puffy heart all those vintage Christmas finds!

shelly - I wish my thrift store had such beautiful treasures like that!!!! What finds!

julia - If you Christmas decorations mysteriously disappear…don’t come looking for me.
Why does Kansas have such good stuff???

Chris Kauffman - Love vintage glass ornaments , I have a set that belonged to my Oma , mine are the plastic topped ones like you have there , I break one almost every year , so far so good this year , they are dwindling away , so special to me , since I never got to know her ….yours are a great find…

sandy toe - Oh..everything is so cute and vintage!
sandy toe

Taking Heart - Your Santas made my heart smile today.

Tanya - You’re a fast healer!

callie grayson - so close and such a fun enticement to finish quickly!!
great vintage finds!!! They made me smile just looking at them:)
xx
callie

Alexis - Wow, what beautiful glass ornaments! I know, I believe glitter/sparkle should go on most things during the holidays. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your decorated home!

Elisa - Hang in there- you are so close!

crash

you know how when you have a high…..

there has to be a low?

that is where i am now.
i had this perfectly lovely weekend where i got to travel with my friend and talk out my feelings
with someone who gets me…like really gets me.
i got to be creative and work with my hands and mind for two days straight.
i met so many kind women who share creative passions.
i got to shop and shop.
i got to sleep and be away and off the clock.
i turned off my cell phone.

and then i came home.

and it was so nice….hugs and love and "oh mommy i missed you so much"

and then there was the next day.
the fighting children.
the drama.
the hurtful words and yelling of teenagers.
the laundry.
the mess.
dinner to be made.

crash.

it is always hard to come home and find that balance between
where your heart was and where reality is.

did i depress you?
i'm sorry.
i just wanted to be honest since i told you i was on a happiness high…
and being real to tell you that i am now feeling a reality LOW.

the completely gray skies don't help either.

i feel a little better already just by writing out how i'm feeling.
relief.

let's change the subject shall we?
let me show you the antique store in omaha.
it was dreamy.

second chance antiques.

so are you curious about what i got….out of all that antiquey goodness?

IMG_2725

cowboy boots.

all worn in…soft and comfy.
🙂

i have put my violin away
and i am ready to stop whining.

i will keep working on pictures…
give hugs when they are needed…
and smile at my kids.

i will think through my weekend when i have time to do that.

and i will make choices of what i will bring into my everyday life…

and what needs to wait for the next season of life.

but right now…i need to think about what to make for dinner.

Grandmom - I have one of those green suitcases, my MIL gave it to us when he came home from the Army for Christmas in 1971.

seleta - Thanks for this post. Last week I had a two day break and did a road trip with a good friend. I went through every single emotion you just described…except the teen part, mine were fighting at ages 10, 7, 5 and 3.
You inspire.

Shenandoah bed and breakfast - The Family is an integral part of our lives. How much we go out after coming home there is family and innocent kids who love you and wears off all exhaustion and tiredness with their little innocent mischievous activities.

Dina - just wanted to give you a hug and let you know how much I enjoy your blog. I love how real you are and you describe so many of the same things that I feel on a daily basis.
take care 🙂 (and put on those boots! that would cheer me up quick!!)

H-Mama - Nothin’ like some good thrift/antique store shopping to lift the spirits. 😉

Brianna - Awesome shots! Makes me want to go antiquing.

elisa - ride the wave, that’s what I always do.
Take care of yourself 🙂

Melanie - Meg, I sent you an email tonight and now I know why. Please read it. I am crashing too but for different reasons. Moving across the country, my house being out of sorts, (not good for my OCD personality) dealing with a sick husband & son, my ear getting infected, getting read-ended in my husbands SUV…..just really too much to handle at one time. I understand that we are crashing over different things but we can relate to each others feelings. I hope your week ends nicely and you have a great weekend. My hubby is out of town all week long and we just moved in on Tuesday of last week, so I am feeling overwhelmed with it all. The weather is not helping me either. You know that I am use to that sunny warm Florida weather but that is not what we have up in Ohio. It might be a long winter for me.

Jennifer Allwood - love the boots!!!!!

Tami B. - Adore your photos from Second Chance Antiques…I wasn’t able to got to Silver Bella this year, so I’m especially enjoying all of the awesome blog posts! Happy Holidays!

Mrs. - Now that I have a job, and not as much time to cyber stalk you, I noticed I am the 81st person to notice the haircut, and give it a thumb’s up. Nice for a change, don’t you think? I have a 12 year old. I like to say, we have a dark cloud over our house all the time, and we never know the hormonal forecast. $20 to the person who can predict correctly when THIS phase is over.
P.S. I, too am tired of the constant laundry, dishes and meals. Seriously, didn’t I do all that yesterday, and the day before, and the day before…

Shannon - I read your blog from time to time, not even sure how I came about it- but! I was at Silver Bella, too. Had no idea you were there, or that I sort of “knew” someone there. It was such an amazing time for me, it was strange to come back to real life, to people who don’t quite get why “craft-camp” was so special . . . anyways- cheers- and hope your day turns around.

Hannah M - I’m going to Omaha over Thanksgiving! Thanks for giving me a new shoppe to visit….and for your honest mommy musings. I hear ya!

Sandy - Did I miss a post about your hairut?! Adorable! And the green suitcases…I don’t have the whole set, but I do have ONE left over from when I was a kid. Does that mean I’m antique?! 🙂

tami reed - I would have passed out in the store omg, flatlined…..

Jennifer - hey Meg looks like enormous fun!!! Sometimes hard to renter the real world.

Rachel / cREaTe - i personally LOVE your honesty. 🙂 it helps me realize you are a real person, not a character in an awesome, perfectly colored blog. i come to your blog for all the inspiration & motivation you give – on being a mom & being creative. and part of you being an inspiration is your ability to show the real you. it’s not depressing … it’s reality. and it makes you even MORE likable! 🙂 i like those kinds of posts just as much as the next. don’t you sweat it, girl.

purejoy - who wouldn’t be down after basking in that gloriousness!! thanks for bringing me there!! (and i’ll fight ya for the boots)

Lisa - Hi Meg – just found your blog, and am amazed by your pics, and the great house you live in. Was so fun meeting you and Jana at Silver Bella – tell Jana I said hi!
Lisa (from Omaha)

Melissa - I can totally relate to the coming home to life, I have experience it many times. {sigh} Love your blog!
Melissa
http://www.MadisonReeceDesigns.etsy.com

jenjen - Oh wow – what a WONDERFUL place. I would have gone CRAZY! I love those old wheels, the vintage jewelry. Sooooo fabulous!
XOXO
Jen

paige - you are just precious
i love that you are an honest woman….that darn crash thing often seems to follow some of our best highs…i’m with ya.
i look forward to hearing more about silver bella
after you create world peace & dinner in your home
xo

Amanda - Wow, that antique store in Omaha looks sooo cool! I am just now learning to appreciate old.
Love the boots, by the way!
Oh yeah… kids and housework are real buzz killers after girl time. Such is life, eh?!
Hang in there!

jennifer - You got your hair cut! VERY cute!
Hope the happiness picks up as the day goes on!
(Love the boots!)

Staci - I always say…there reeeeally needs to be some kind of place you can go for “re-entry” back into the real life BEFORE you get home…like at the airport…they should make you do your own laundry and make your meals….just sayin’ I’m sorry you are feeling low…I will say a prayer for you today 😉

joycee - It’s a hard job being Mommy. Sometimes there’s just nothing more to give and you have to pull back for a little while. I’ve been feeling like that lately and did a post this week…
http://grannymountain.blogspot.com/2009/11/healthy-mind-healthy-body.html

jennifer - I’ve so been there! And the longer I’m away, the harder re-entry is.
Love the boots and the sassy new haircut!
Mostly I love that you keep it real!
Praise the Lord that each day is a new one!

Ashlee Archibald - CUTE HAIRCUT!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I was recently JUST a teeenager. I remember those words. that feeling. it's not you, Mom. I promise. 🙁 It makes me sad just thinking about all the words I threw at my Mommma. I hated being a teenager and I still cringe when I think about it. My Mom is my best friend in the world now, I hope the grey subsides soon.
CUTE BOOTS too!! 🙂
xoxox

kristin - ha! i got myself a pair of worn and curly boots last week at the thrift shop. awesome.
that place looks dreamy. i hear you on the reality bit. i still need a vacation.

princesslasertron - Hi Miss Meg 🙂
I’m so glad you got a picture of that kitty. He is the best. I have been in that store so many times and yet you captured so many angles and places and things I have never noticed.
You are wonderful and I am glad we are friends!
xo

susie whyte - wow. 61 comments before me. sigh. i don’t know how many times it’s been mentioned by now but “HOLY CUTE HAIRCUT, BATMAN!” 🙂
i’m not going to throw out the advice, just the “i’ve been there” comment. i spent a week last summer with our youth in tennessee at ciy. knowing that teens would stretch my patience limit, my husband would ask me everyday if i was ready to come home. i would always answer no. ha ha. i’ll take lauren(and we will play pepper with the volleyball all day–well, until my arm gives…maybe an hour)and you can take my 3 1/2 yr old who told her dad at wal-mart that she didn’t want to hear his voice. 🙂 i don’t have my own teen, but i sure do feel your pain!!

Christina - Those things are so real…the going away and getting filled, and then returning home and feeling as though someone knocked the pitcher over just as you walked through the door. Sometimes I feel like that even after church. We walk through the door, and it’s an immediate spiral! I think,”Did I just come from worship? Really?” Thanks for sharing honest feelings. It does help to “talk” about it. 🙂 I agree with others, your hair is really cute. I hope some sunny skies come your way!

Amy Bryant - Keepin’ it real … you’re just keepin’ it real! What good would the highs be without the lows? Being a mom is the most thankless job of all … and to make it worse, we don’t get to see the results of our hard work until the kids are grown with families of their own. So, when a hard day hits – and they do HIT – we kinda have to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps and keep on truckin’. No matter how great the hubby is, they can’t really get it. All of that is why I allow myself the *ME* trips AND the pity parties!!!
I’m a new reader and you are the only blog that I read every day (well – and Cake Wrecks) but the other day I read a post where you were answering questions and you said that you aren’t perfect, that the house is a mess etc – and you were kinda putting yourself down. Well – I was in a pediatric neurologists waiting room for 2 hours today and for some reason started thinking of you while watching the kids and parents interacting. I thought of one post where you said you make sure the girls have clothes in their drawers that fit and then let them dress themselves … well girl, just one glance at Talby and Annie and it is obvious that they are confident, happy, creative, carefree children who LOVE being kids – and that is ALL due to YOU!
It is you who teaches your children to wring every ounce of happiness out of their day. You who are letting them know that it’s okay to have laundry on the couch and spend time doing something that brings joy. You who pull out paints, or shaving cream, or a leaf pile instead of parking them in front of a TV.
I read your blog because you remind me to spend TIME with my son. Perfection is not what they will remember, but time IS. You are also teaching your children how to be happy with themselves and how to find happiness in the little things. Your children will never rely on things or people to make them happy – their happiness will come from inside. They will find joy in a box of new crayons, or a colorful shirt – not just in a new video game.
SO – have your down day. It is okay. It is normal. It is expected. But know that your children are a huge reflection of what kind of job you are doing as a mother, and your children reflect a happy, confident, fun, creative, loving, smart, sassy, giving, empathetic, fabulous mom!

donna - You know what I have come to realize…….sometimes going away is more torture than just staying home…..because of the “crash”……..for me, with 6 kids…….I work my butt off before I leave….making sure the laundry is in order, precooked meals, lists and lists…….stay up all night before I leave making sure everything is in perfect order……wake up ready to go, but I am exhausted (usually forget half of my belongings because I was too busy getting things in order for hubby with kids……have fun while I am gone……relax…then I come home and UGH! I like the one word summary “crash” – perfect I am going to borrow that word!

Becca Parker - We lived in Omaha for a short while, and went to Second Chance several times. It’s a wonderful junky place, I got the coolest antique wash tub, it’s followed me through four moves since. Don’t let the daily reality get you down.

Patti - ok – things i noticed:
1. that shop made me drool all over my keyboard.
2. your hair looks super duper cute!
3. i’m loving those boots.
4. you are human.
5. you seem to be a fantastic mom.
6. you are so talented.
7. you see the good, even through the bad.
8. everyone, even you, are allowed to have your crash.
hope that stuff didn’t sound like a creepy blog stocker…cause i’m not. i promise. i just feel your pain and know that it sometimes feels good to know that other people (moms) get it.

Trishia Gallardo - Totally understand, I just had a weekend with friends (that included a day in Omaha!) and had that feeling when I got home to my kids…
I’ve never seen that shop in Omaha, will have to check it out! And the gray boots are fantastic 🙂

Jacqui - i love the way you verbalise what so many of us feel!! lows make the highs that much better 🙂

Kristine - i love your hair! super cute! and i love that you got GRAY BOOTS! i just ordered some online that ended up being brown but they looked grey in the pictures. so i got back online and did a search for grey b/c that’s what i decided i’d had my heart set on. then i wore my brown cowboy boots and i only take them off to sleep 🙂 i LOVE them!!!! and i wear them with ANYTHING!!!! great find! you deserve it!

Mifter's Mom - I totally feel your pain. I have “dark days” every so often…and with drama with my child’s father, I’ve been having “red days” here lately!!
I just keep repeating, “this too shall pass. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!”.
Love the shots of the antique store!!

Michelle B - Oh I know exactly how you are feeling! I hope tomorrow is a better day. It will be. As for Omaha…were you in the Old Market area? It seems I have been to this store. Love all the antique stores in the Old Market. 🙂

Ryanne - I am sorry you are having a poopy day, and I hope it gets better, it will. Can’t wait to hear about Silver Bella.
Thanks for your delightful pictures.

Kelly - Did you happen to eat at an Italian place down the street from that antique place? I am not 100% sure that’s where it/you were but I used to go to Omaha to visit one of my good college girlfriends and we had the BEST risotto for our birthdays at that place and the brick and windows look the same . . . hoping you’re settling out . . . I understand the crashes. had one yesterday somewhat. Kelly

The Tulip Lady - First of all, you have great hair right now, cute cut. Second of all, as long as you have an air bag (aka supportive husband, coffee, dark chocolate) you will walk away from the crash in fine form. Hang in there. Repeat after me, “I have cute hair, I have cute hair, I have cute hair”…..

Patricia - Reality ~ sometimes amazingly wonderful, sometimes NOT. Here’s wishing you more highs than lows! The antique store looks like so much fun. I could get lost in there for hours! Love your boots :o)

patricia - I am so glad you keep it real.

Meredith - Um, hello…fabulous hair alert:) The highs and lows of life can always take us by surprise can’t they? That’s what bubble baths are for. Thinking of you today, hoping you’re having an easier time of things…if I could send you over one of your Sonic razzleberry whoosiwhatsits that you so love, I would. Meredith xo.

kasey - you know what i think? put that green dress on for a night out with the hubby…and maybe your cowboy boots?
you could start a trend!!
xo

julie - FABULOUS boots!
Did you get a haircut? It’s too cute!

Gratsia - I know exactly how you feel.

MS. Scientist - May I just direct you to the ever applicable quotation from one of my favorite reads? You have it right up there on the right, below the whatever heading…Philipians 4:8… Just think on these things. Thinking on anything else is just not right!(I feel ya, tho!)

christine - Oh man, is this ever the truth. Just minutes ago, my sweet husband gave me hugs as I cried about my crappy day so far. It’s just been one thing after another, and I’m emotionally and physically spent. As he let me just cry for a minute, he whispered into my ear that I have lots of really amazing, great days with our girls. Sometimes the bad ones will come, but those great ones far outnumber days like these. How I love that man!
Praying for you today as you embrace the realities of the day-to-day for the blessings that they are. Big hugs, Meg, I’m so inspired and blessed by your blog. Although I’m quite often a lurker, I appreciate you so much.

Kate - I COMPLETELY understand… I was in Texas for a wedding – had breakfast w/ college roommates – who GET me… then, wham-o. blam-o.
Hard to rejoice always sometimes, but that’s ok. I’ll keep swimming. 🙂

Karen~ - Meg, I have a question for you and I’m sure you have answered it before. What kind of camera do you have? I am looking for a new one and would love some advice.
Thanks!
Karen~

Tera - Love the red sweater… super cute!

your cool friend Cheryl - I’m glad the teenage years won’t come for another 10 in this house!
I love that little green truck…feel free to send it to me! 🙂
Feel better soon!

Cami - CUTE haircut!!! Did you notice how everyone picked up on that? LOL

Heidi Jo the Artist - Uh, I hate lows. I had a low day yesterday. But the good thing about lows is usually the next day is a bit better and for me it is today.
I saw you were going to be in Omaha and I thought wow I’m going to be in the area the same weekend to visit my sister!? But then I got sick, and REALLY sick. Still sick, but slowly getting better. I’m going to have to visit that antique shop when I’m in the area, looks like fun! I have the awesome olive green suitcases like in your photo. I love that style/brand the BEST and recently came upon an orange one to add to our traveling collection. 🙂
Hope your afternoon starts to go smoother.
Love your hair too btw!

Christy - Love your hair cut! It’s so cute.
I would love to dig around in that antique store..

Lisa - AND, I meant to say…CUTE HAIR!!!

Lisa - You put words to what I’m feeling today! Yesterday: Pioneer Woman book signing, good food, coffee, conversation and loads of shopping with my girls. Today: laundry (even a fall down the stairs carrying it to the basement…argh!), rainy yuckiness and well, the every day needs of two little ones. A friend of mine defined abundant life to me this way over the weekend and it is helping my perspective today…”Meaningful, relationships, knowing your purpose, and the opportunity to give your life away.” I am thankful for abundant life, even when it doesn’t feel as fun as it did yesterday! 🙂

juliann brenner - Megan – looks and sounds like a restful and fun weekend. My mom always tells me that my “time” is coming. It is hard in the tornado-like days to remember that isn’t it? I get all overwhelmed (with just three kiddos) and I look at her and my dad and the time they get to be together, be alone, do their hobbies, have unrushed quiet times and take a deep breath…some day.

Ashley Ann - Cute haircut! Cute store! Cute boots! Cute green truck! Cute green luggage! Scary yellow clown!

Fidgeting Gidget - I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling with the “crash” thing. I wrote a post about the same type of thing today, only I called mine an “emotional hangover.”
Your pictures are lovely and definitely enough to help to turn my mood around a little. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

sandy toe - Oh…that store looks dreamy~
sandy toe
p.s. love the boots!

christi - sometimes i wonder if i’m the only one out there that has those crashes. those low times. those ugly days. i know i’m not but i also know it’s something that we don’t all like to write about. but alas, this is what i adore about your blog. your heart. your kind words. your honesty. you are an encouragement to this woman and for that i am thankful.

Stephanie Carroll - I think I am one of your younger readers, so, as one of your younger readers I will say (because it is fresh for me) teenagers come out of their selfish all about me dreamworlds and really come to appreciate their parents. I know I did. It will get better! I’m pretty embarrassed about how I yelled at my mom. Anyway, I told you in an email a long time ago that I hope when I have kids I am half the creative, loving, spunky mom you are. You’re doing a good job.

Taking Heart - Your blog always brightens my day.
Hope you have an up day soon!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Such true and honest words!
Happy that you had a wonderful weekend away!
Now, I’m off to try and figure out what’s for dinner, too!

Renee Khan - If you call that whining, make sure you never come to my blog.
Renee xoxo

Tara @ the cinnamon post - love, love, love your blog – the pictures, the writing, the honesty. you are fabulous and life is weary and wonderful and sometimes making dinner is just impossible. don’t apologize for your thoughts, they are enjoyed and appreciated by many! thanks for the antique store inspiration!!

lora - Love your hair…and your sweater….and yes, sometimes reality bites. But it’ll be better tomorrow. 🙂
by the way, my hubby has an itch to explore the States, specifically Nebraska (we live in Canada and would love to relocate….). We’re driving down in December. From your pics of Omaha….I gotta get there!!!

Karina - I bet there’s not a reader on here who doesn’t understand where you’re coming from. You make it REAL.
I, too, LOVE your haircut and that sweater! I saw that picture and said, “Self, that is the look we must emulate.” (Yes, I talk to myself; I have three kids under 5 and a cat to keep me company all day every day. I am very fortunate, but it has made me a wee bit loopy.)

Amy - …it is tough to put on your game face after a bit of fun…I understand!
We tried you Apple Puff Pancake! IT WAS YUMMY! THANKS! 🙂
Love the boots!

sarajane - hey love the new haircut! hope you figure out something fab for dinner 🙂

sarah - I felt that same high and then low after coming home from Kansas.
Cute hair, you look adorable.
Love the boots,
and I need some of the antique jewelry goodness.
yum.
I love your honesty.

Diana - Right there with you, hon… the low days are real just like the rest of it. This is why your blog is so well-read. You are able to show all sides of yourself and everyone still loves you.
Mighty chic green dress! :p But the boots are rootin’ tootin’ awesome!
Have you checked out the antique store/flea market here in town? (700 block on the west side of main street) Not as big as the one you went to in Omaha, but lots of neat stuff.
Lookie there – the sun is coming out as I type! *woot* 😀

Tammy - Love the pics. And you are so right about the semi expected low after the highest of highs – hang in there. Thanks for sharing.

Kirsten - Awww, it’s okay…happens to me, too. Once I saw the definition for that let-down feeling that comes after a high time. “anticipointment”, that’s what it is. Sweet boots, by the way.

elizabeth - The photos are great — that store looks so wonderful. I, for one, am glad that you’ve described your reality “low.” I think it’s good for someone who clearly has a charmed life in many ways (!) to reveal that all is not perfect. Your blog is a source of beauty, of family life and love and for there never to be anything but “positivity” would make it dull and sort of meaningless. So thank you!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I crashed big time after Brave Girl’s Camp. Someone warned me it would happen and when it did I was so bummed. I kind of hoped the high would last a bit longer. Here’s praying your low doesn’t stay long.
I know you mentioned painting before. Get a canvas, a brush and just begin. That’s a sure fire way to get over the blues:)

Georgia - NICE HAIR!!!! you look lovely really suits you 🙂 xx

Danielle Townsend - So, weird. I think you were in my dream last night. We live across the nation from each other, but I’m pretty sure it was you…in that dream-like way. You asked me to babysit your kids, which I was very excited about. But, before you left the house, someone needing help stopped by and you were more than willing to help them, and spent a good portion of my dream doing so. Be happy and know that even in some weird stranger’s dream, you are, in reality, a happy, gracious woman.
(I hope you aren’t weirded out. I guess I look at blogs too much. This just adds to my husband’s arsenal of reasons I should stop looking at blogs. 😉 haha)

kristen - i’m loving your hair cut!

angela - Some days are better than others..that’s for sure. Nothing use to get me down like fights with my teenagers. Tomorrow brings a new day and before you know it, they are getting married. Enjoy today…your boots…and your CUTE hair cut. It looks great by the way!

Lori - My best friend and I go away for a weekend twice a year. We both experience what we refer to as “re-entry” when we get home. Always rough.
Your haircut is the cutest!! And I love that long sweater.
The antique store looks like lots of fun. Glad you were able to get away. Even with “re-entry” it’s worth it to recharge the batteries!

Jody - Oh the day after coming home from being away – back to life – back to reality (are you singing with me??) is always tough.
Your blog brightens my day considerably (I’m a Mama to 4 boys 4 & under – yep – I have triplets in there!) and your blog reminds me to not get bogged down in the times of drudgery of being home full time & taking care of kids full time. And to enjoy the colors & the simple things in life – because that is where happiness truly lies.

Mary - That is a seriously cute haircut you have, I have to say! Looks like a fabulous time! Next time I’m passin’ thru Omaha…I’m stopping in! ;o) ~mary~

Miranda - So true that lows follow highs…such a bummer. But at least we all have lovely pictures on our favorite blogs to swoon over and brighten our moods! Loved this post…those yellow broaches, I could just die!

Jess - Truthfulness is why so many of us love your blog. Antique stores always brighten a day! My mom still has that set of green suitcases! And I spied your new do….super cute. And love, love, love the boots. I’m makin’ soup tonight.

Julia - I got to the tray of yellow pins and thought…WOAH MOMMA! I wish we had stores like that in SoFla. Love your boots. Umm…just curious, how much were they…you know, it’s so much more fun to go virtual shopping when you know the prices.

steph tucker - And this is what makes your blog so wonderful to read….truthfulness, reality and a willingness to be vulnerable. I think we all want people to think that we live only in the happiness high (at least I do) and the reality is, if we are human, we can’t live there all the time. 🙂 But it sure is a nice ride when we’re there for a little bit. Have a good day Meg. Thank you for your honesty.

yummy.

kristen - Just curious where is that barn and is it open year around.

Amy R. - Your weekend looked like so much fun! That barn sale was to die for! Wish I lived closer. That metal turquoise stool is awesome. Would love to see what you do with it. I enjoy your blog!
Amy

kate b - I also would have cried walking into that barn. AMAZING. I would have died taking pictures there. What a treat! And those Kansas morning shots are amazing!

Kristine Robb - i need me some rusty chairs!

Jen H. - I’m loving that green toolbox. That sale would be my idea of heaven too. I have a favourite antiques barn near me that is like that all the time. I only allow myself to visit it about twice a year!
That antler chair is one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen.

Rachel / cREaTe - WOW! unbelievable stuff! i’m in KC … i’ll have to look up hillsboro. 🙂 i LOVE your finds. those dishes are BEAUTIFUL [the ivory ones] and that wood divider thing ROCKS & i would love to know how you’re going to use it. unfortunately, i almost lost my lunch … my page was stuck loading on the hide & antler photo … *urp* … that kind of stuff doesn’t usually bother me that much, but i guess staring at it for so long, i started to really take it all in. i had to look away. and well … now i might have become a vegetarian. 🙂

Dina - Can I just come and hang with you??? I live in Wichita and feel like I could just stalk you….I’m so joking…that’s kind of creepy..:-)…but I do love your style and also live in an old house.
LOVE every picture you post. I’m so sad I didn’t go to Hillsboro last weekend and soooo jealous of all your finds:-)

Christina - Meg, I love how you are able to see beauty in the not-so-obvious places. That is such a gift. It reminds me of how God looks at us. You are able to look at something that others might see as useless or worthless and find purpose and value.
Your treasures are wonderful and you are a treasure. I’m so glad I can learn from you.

Lisa - How can it be that I live an hour from Hillsboro and have never heard of this sale?! I’m kicking myself. Next year…
I would love to know about the barn too. Great stuff!

Tiffany Morris - Seriously… I think my imagination is stuck in your body! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your style. I wish you could help me with my house. I know what I want, but can’t DO IT for some reason! 🙂
Hugs – Tiffany

Mandi - Okay…I am officially jealous of Kansas!
And, about the crock pot quesadillas…they were as amazing (and easy) as they sound. I made them for my sister and her friend tonight and it was a huge hit. I see these again in my near future!

Annette - Hello, it is Annette I have to know if the barn sale was just a one time thing or is it something that is open to the public? It looks like to much fun

Sara Cameli - OOOOh Meg, loved these. That barn would make an awesome art studio…and I LOVE your picture of the chairs lined up with the beautiful background of farmland – the yellow, green and blue…and the morning shots of hay and mist…so lovely.

Tammy - Wow, I would have loved to tag along too! You really picked up some great treasures!

Vanessa {Bloom Right Here!} - And so many people think Kansas has nothing to offer! My heart started beating a little bit faster when I saw your photos. I used to live in Emporia and would drive over for the craft show. Such fun! But that barn sale?! Wow! I’ve never seen one quite like that. Thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures with us.

Shannon - I HAVE to visit those barns! Where are they exactly?

Debra Cripps - Ooh lovely things, lucky, lucky girls!!

Ashley - Pure Heaven!
I need the barn and all it’s contents!

Courtney - Oh my GOSH that place rules!!!

Leigh Ann - Ohhh MYYYY!!!! Whay can’t I find a barn sale like that!

Amanda - Wow! I’m from Kansas and now live in Colorado. It’s funny how the things you’ve been searching for are always hiding in plan sight. I so love your blog! You bring a fresh and beautiful perspective to a world that is often times gloomy and somber.
Thank for sharing your life and heart with all of us!

Jodi - Hey Meg –
Can you tell me where the barn is? Is the sale only once a year?

Jenny Wenzel - Meg…it’s Jenny from the garage sale. Can you tell me where those barns are…I NEED to go!!! Or at least the contact info? THANKS – Jenny Wenzel

Jess - You would have to drag me kicking and screaming outta there! The barns look like giant treasure boxes for grown-ups. And how cute is baby Janey?
The blue chair you scored….I remember having a red one at my grandparents house. I would love to find one of those.

Kacey - Oh, what fun! All the color – that must have been incredible. Great finds!

Laura Phelps - I will be honest. I am in a grumpy mood this morning. And the pictures are making ME cry. I saw THREE things that I have been searching for. I am feeling jealous and bitter.

Staci - HOW fun!!!!!!! I’m with Misty…..I only live ONE state away from you in OK….why don’t we have great Barn Places like that??? I guess….we get football 🙂 hee heee (Although…your Jayhawks are gonna give us a run for our money this year!!!! YIKES!)

jennifer - LOVIN’ all the color!

Schrag - Where in the world are those barns?!?! I live close to Hillsboro and could totally find them. Need details – please! 🙂

Tracy - I wondered if that wood piece was yours at Molly’s…I saw it and wanted it, but then it said Megan on it…rats. Where was the barn sale….I want some of those old chairs to put on our deck. Looks like you had a fabulous weekend….what fun!!!

Summer - Loved looking at these pictures….I have to bring myself down out of the clouds now. Thanks for sharing!
