my friday

woke up…made coffee…made talby's sack lunch…started a load of laundry.
drove the kids to school…had  a big arguement over being selfish at christmas in the car…bummer.
came home…got out of my pajamas…more coffee…check email.
walk annie to school…then realize if forgot my disks i was going to drop off.
walk back home and decide to bring waffle on a walk with me.

ugh.
he is so hard to walk.
we made it 10 minutes…then i dropped him off at home and went on walking for 15 minutes alone.

vaccuumed, dusted, mopped my bedroom…made a gi-normous laundry mountain on my bed.
went to pick annie up from preschool…stopped a wendy's for 2 free jr. frosties.
annie watched tv and i picked up the kitchen.
kids walked home from school at 1:00 (early release)
1:45 lauren calls and says "uhhhh….were you going to pick me up?"
i thought she had try outs but it was a different day…oops.
go pick her up…sit 10 minutes waiting on two trains.
Al comes to fix a problem with our furnace.
he leaves and i start on the laundry mountain.
start to feel very sleepy so i lay down on the laundry mountain….i fall asleep for exactly 1 minute
someone slams the door downstairs causing frames to wall off a shelf and break.

NIIIIIIIICE.
now that i am wide awake i go downstairs.
craig walks in from work earlier than usual (always lovely to see) we say hello.
i finish the laundry…he goes to get pizza….three girls arrive for talby's sleepover birthday party!
we eat pizza…i make cupcakes…the boys leave for a football game.

the girls start watching Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs…
they make it halfway through before they leave to play more barbies.
annie finally loses it and has the biggest tantrum of the evening and i take her up to bed.

she cried for 15 minutes because she wanted to "be with the girls"  it was heartbreaking.
clearly i should have found a place for her to go for talby's sake.

at 10:30 i took a shower…
at 11:15 i told the girls again to go to sleep.
at 11:20 i couldn't keep my eyes open anymore….

at 6:05 AM this morning there were 4 little girls giggling again.
where's the coffee?

Jessica Butler - You should absolutely submit a picture of your rainbow cupcakes here: http://jpgmag.com/themes/218/hot

Kristy - i love this post.

Heather Giustino - Oh, I can’t eevn imagine what sleepovers will be like….I remember my own and if they’re anything like that I’ll be sleepy too! I have one little girl and another on the way.
The cupcakes looked great! I hope you had a restful day today, and some help with the laundry!

Andrea from Orlando - I love following your blog! I am a first time mother of a six week old baby boy. I get the coffee thing:) Thanks for sharing and being so honest…it’s inspiring.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Isn’t motherhood grand??;) You had quite the day…thanks for sharing it with us!!
Those cupcakes looked absolutely divine. I still remember that rainbow cake you made. It’s on my to-do list!!
Hope your Sunday is a little more relaxing:)

Janelle - sounds exhausting but lovely at the same time! your post last week totally inspired me – i went to wilton.com and bought everything i needed to make a rainbow cake – i can’t wait!

linda - meg…you are a good neighbor for my daughter, amy. i love your blog & of course i’m very tired afterwards with all you do but i do enjoy it all!! cute kids and you’re so talented kept up the good work and its not easy being a mom on some days…..!

linda

meaghan - LOVE this post!!! no idea why 😉 love that talby let her lil sis play with her at her slumber party…so sweet

linda@LimeintheCoconut - Hee. I soo remember those days like they were yesterday. Dayum. They WERE yesterday. Sleep deprivation is worse than drugs. Just sayin’.

misty - out of all of this~ here’s what i got out of it~ “argued about being selfish at christmas”
I read ALL of your blogs after I discovered it & read about how your family does christmas. This year our family is adopting your ideas & going with less. I love this idea & have told other friends that are going to do the same. you’re not selfish.
ps~ you didn’t just bake cupcakes~ you baked RAINBOW cupcakes. awesome =)

JOYCE - Hi Meg!I’ve been reading your blog for about a year I’d say!You really inspire me with your use of color right in the middle of so much white!(which is me)I am starting to use more color and I’m loving it!I don’t know why I haven’t posted before:)My husband and I were at the U2 concert in Norman,I coulda met ya!Darn, next time!haha I’m not a blogger or what I’d call super creative, but I’d like to be more!I really enjoy your blog!

Tracy - LOL poor Meg – I’m exhausted just from reading all about your day! Hope today is a better day for you! Love the cute picture of Waffle with his head propped up on the back of the couch! :o) Hugs, Trac~ ;O)

Chicago Jen - look at me checking your blog again this week! Happy Birthday to both your girls. Tell them I remember when they came out of your tummy. I got my birthday package. Thanks, I was a little jealous when I read about you going to her book signing and wishing that I had one too. Now I do!

Sara Cameli - Funny how when you write it all down like that it seems like more work than a pro athlete. and it probably is. Go Meg! You deserve a Mamma-Licious tee shirt.

Lorilee - The cupcakes look awesome! I will have to try them when I feel like dirtying lots of bowls! My son is 14 and still has sleepovers. Although I don’t think they sleep very much. Last Saturday night, we had 4 extra boys. This weekend is slow so far, only one extra boy. I was supposed to be out-of-town today at a clogging workshop. The friend I was going with had to cancel because her step-daughter (56 yrs) was just diagnosed with cancer and given 6 weeks. So Sad. We are praying for them.
Blessings,
Lorilee

Lisa - Wow. And I thought I had a long day! What a good mama 🙂

se7en - Aaahhh a day in the life – lovely post!!! Love the cakes – very pretty and I just love a peep at your regular life!!! Poor Annie its tough being the shortest, I know from experience!!!

Heather - I have a dog puller. Well, kinda. I started practicing a technique I found on the net, and it basically goes like this. The dog pulls, you stop and stay stopped for as long as it takes him to look around, stop pulling and wonder what is up – kind of like you are a tree. If he continues to pull start walking the other way a bit then stop and go back the way you wanted to. I hope I’m explaining that right. Basically I think of it as ‘the tree technique’, as in you can’t pull if you are attached to a tree. Eventually (and for me and my American Staffordshire dog of extreme power, within 2 days, I was able to go for an actual real walk. Stunned wasn’t the word for it. I hope this works for you!

Lisa Liddell - whew, that is motherhood right there.

melissa@afamiliarpath - oh sleepovers. they are exhausting.

Christina - Oof, what a day. Sometimes I feel like at the end of the day I can say,”Well, I lived to tell about it.” And that’s about it.
Annie did get a Frostie with mom!! It’s hard when they expect to be just like the big kids. Mine is only 2 and she already thinks that she ought to get to do whatever they are doing. Tough lessons to learn.
I hope your Sat. is calmer, and there is no broken glass or laundry mountain in sight.
Although, around here the laundry mountain is always in sight…it changes location, but it’s always in sight.

pve - too bad they do not have batteries or switches to flip, ha!
pve

Joanna @ The Casa - Sounds like a wonderful day. ;0)

Meredith - Oh, the joys of the Sleepover…Creating beautiful memories and experiences for your kids can be exhausting can’t it? Hope you get a sleep-in sometime this weekend 🙂 Meredith xo.

Suzette Mahoney - adore the cupcakes…adore the photo of Waffle….adore your honesty. Thanks for your blog. It is my fav.

Courtney - Wow – thats a crazy crazy day.
As for walking Waffles – get one of these if you don’t have one: http://www.buygentleleader.com/View.aspx?page=dogs/products/behavior/gentleleader/description a gentle leader will change your life walking the dog – promise.

Beth - I have to say sleepovers are NOT my favorite thing at all. We had one last night but just with one kiddo. They are still screaming in the bedroom as I type. Those cupcakes are awesome . . how did you make them?

Trish - okay so i read this, left and now i’m back 🙂
i came back because i thought of you when i opened my photoshop 🙂 i know it’s on your “list”
just wanted you to know that i own a mac, purchased photoshop elements 6… now they are up to 8… it’s only like $79 on adobe possibly cheaper on amazon or something?
if you purchase it i can give you all of my secret links and special places to find great tips… cause i was absolutely cluless when it came to that program… still such a baby when it comes to things, but it is so much fun… plus it will be so fun to do all of your digital scrapbooking too.
okay with that being said…
sorry for your friday…
looks like those girls made some fun memories and at least you have a coffee maker, sigh, i’m coffee makerless! and addicted to starbucks! that is a problem let me tell ya! hope your saturday is better 🙂

Lisa Marie - oh yes the sleep over…the JOY..of no Sleep for mom..such a loverly time… LOL… gotta love Girls… 🙂

angela - Sleep overs are the WORST!! I had them for my daughter but she was always cranky the next day…and so was I. I was glad she outgrew them and went on to other things. I love the picture of all the little animals lined up. Such a sweet, simple statement.

Cori Heffernan - Could post how to make the cupcakes? I love them they look yummie!!

Alyssa - Your -a good mom!!! I have not started the sleep over yet….I recall having those sleep overs when I was a girl.

Jaimie - Sounds like QUITE the day. But I will admit, it sounds fun and makes me want more kids!

Lindsay - Meg, how did you make the rainbow cupcakes? Same idea as the cake just separate the batter?? Or is there any special tip. My son turns one next week and I can’t wait to make them!!

DreamGirlLisa - Sounds like heaven to me…miss those days home w/ the little ones. the cupcakes are adorable, and you’re a great mom, they’ll appreciate you someday for sure 🙂

Becca Parker - I miss the giggling little girls at sleepovers, I miss mountains of sprinkles (everything is better with a sprinkle on top), but I like that laundry is only a hill. You make wonderful memories for your babies, unfortunately they’ll only appreciate them when they’re older. But you can tuck these moments in your heart now.

Heather - 🙂 Busy, full day. Love that the little girls spent their sleep over in play and baking. Such sweet, simple fun. Enjoy your Saturday! Its well deserved.

Melissa in TN - Love, love, love your blog – as a mom, graphic designer AND doggie lover – the Waffle pics always make me smile 😀
thank you
melissa in tn

Ashley - It’s a wonderful life! I love it!

jennifer - Ahhh! A day in (what could have been my) the life!
Glad to know I’m not the only one that falls asleep on the laundry mountain. 🙂
Talby’s party looks just like something Kate would love to do. Super fun!

No.17CherryTreeLane - this post is what I hope all my Saturdays will be when Miss K is a little older.
Exhausting, but good.

jody - this post exhausts me.
probably because it sounds similar to my life…busy with kids.
the cupcakes look lovely!
